She is very intelligent. Alot of reading but it clarify's the class lectures. Her tests are hard if you dont study for them. They are all essay, but her study guide is exactly the information on the test with no trick questions. Get straight to the point on your essay, and you will be fine
Dr. Ferdon is one of the most brilliant professors I have had here at Liberty. She is well read on the subject and is able to communicate a wealth of information. If government isn't your thing you may want to take someone like Murphy as he is easier though. If you have a desire to really learn about the US Government, then take her class.
I love love love Dr. Ferdon, some friends of mine and I refer to her as the goddess Ferdon. She is absolutely brilliant, and knows everything possible about government and political economy. Extremely nice and loves to meet with students outside of class. Dont take her if youre not willing to intellecually engage in the class, its an insult.
Brilliant teacher. Gov 200 she speaks way over your head, but she gives a study guide out a week before the exam. if you memorize the study guide u are golden. She curves her tests as well. When you are taking the class, you think its impossible, but its actually really easy. I would recommend her as a Gov 200 teacher.
Her incredible wealth of knowledge is amazing. It seems overwhelming at first but she is committed to helping you understand! Amazing prof!!!!
She thinks she's speaking to a Harvard Law class. Seriously, she needs to use common words instead of her "olde english". And she never actually talks about what we're supposed to be learning. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
lectures the entire time but was very easy
has little to no commonality with students, imo. extremely demanding of students even out of class
The only drawback is the exams. Though I'd get that out of the way. Extremely interesting and energetic. No joke, she lectures like her life depends on it. It should be mandatory that every Liberty student take a class from her.
Dr. Ferdon knows what she is teaching she has been in the heart of the material in Ukraine, the Soviet Union and many others. It may seem like she isn't teaching according to the material, she is. The textbooks go along with her handouts and are used for the tests. Its not exactly challenging but its not a cake class either,Your in College after all
I took her for three classes. She is extremely intelligent! It's refreshing to actually feel like your being tested on what you're learning! Tests easy to study for--questions come directly from study guide. Very thorough teacher. Just don't go "belly up"! "Don't be a doofus driver" and she probably won't be your facebook friend!
Tests are fairly easy, right from the study guide, all lecturing and sometimes hard pay attention to but she is an intelligent prof
Take this class only if you have too, if not GOVT major stay away. The tests are extremely difficult. But are not her fault, I think in this GOVT 350 you have to do an essay test. If this is not so, then its her. But she has a lot of knowledge in the subject matter and is very nice. She is loud enough to hear. Sweetheart.
Definitely one of best profs at LU, she has tons of real life experience, lived in multiple countries and expects her students to be smart.
Ferdon may be the best professor at LU. Reason is that she is extremely intelligent but doesn't talk down to the class. She doesn't lower herself be expects you to work to bring yourself up to her. The reason she is not too hard is that she gives the BEST STUDY GUIDES EVER! Work at it, and she's a good A.
She forgets that we're still learning and talks like we are all Harvard grads with Doctorate degrees. Not helpful at all. Cuts you off and doesn't let u finish asking questions. Brilliant woman but isnt easy to learn from. She is not a good teacher. Her tests are insanely hard. the only way u can hope to pass them is if you memorize EVERYTHING!
Prof Ferdon is extremely intelligent but a horrible teacher. Classes are insanely boring and not really relevant. Tests are not too difficult if you memorize the study guide. Didnt really learn anything from her
Dr. Ferdon is quite possibly the most intelligent creature on this planet. She is by far the best teacher at Liberty University. SHe knows what she's doing and if you show up and pay attention you will do well. Her tests can be difficult but it's to be expected. Hello, this is college people. Grow up and take a challenge for once. SHe's amazing.
Most Excellent. Well Educated!
Dr. Ferdon is a brilliant woman.
Dr. Ferdon is by far one of the most brilliant and intelligent professors I have ever met. She truly cares about her students. She practically gives you the test as the study guide so unless you are stupid and don't go or pay attention in class you will be fine. Listen to what she says and soak it in. you are truly in the presence of greatness.
Take her!! Extremely nice woman, and VERY brilliant! In class, its sometimes hard to understand what she says due to how much depth she goes in but if u study the study guides you'll get an A, no worries!! Your grade consists of only 4 exams, no quizzes, classwork, or homework!! Exams are easy if u study, straight from the study guide!! Take her!!!
An extremely kind Christian woman who is always willing to help her students. She gives rather intellectual and verbose lectures, but makes up for it by giving a great study guide for each of the tests. An excellent professor. A must take for government students at LU.
Amazing Professor. She is very intellectual and might be hard to follow for the uninitiated, however her study guides and published notes more than make up for that in the easiness factor.
Dr. Ferdon is simply brilliant. All LU students should be required to take one class with her. Her passion for studying the Constitution is contagious.
Could possibly be one of my favorite teachers of all-time!! She is a solid Christian and biblical worldview on Government, politics, and the Constitution. People that hate her are lazy, pathetic coach-potatoes. Her depth of American history and political history is INCREDIBLE! This is HARVARD-material Professor, no doubt.
Dr. Ferdon is a great professor. Her interactions with the class are the best I've seen. She really encourages the students to think, hard, about what they think about the subject. Her personal experiences are incorporated into the lectures and helps you apply what you are learning to real life. She is firm in her convictions. She is inspiring.
Dr. Ferdon is a professor who wants her students to succeed and expects them to work hard. Her lectures are not always relevant to the exam topics-keep an eye out for the study guides she gives out before exams. Read the assignments the two weeks before the exam and reading quizzes, and get sleep. Don't expect an A, it's possible, but difficult.
She is absolutely brilliant! There is a lot to learn from her and her life experiences as well. She is very knowledgeable yet down to earth. Love her!
Extremely intellectual woman, her classes are difficult, but easy to swallow thanks to the clarity provided.
I was worried at first, but she is actually one of my easiest government teacher. She is very smart, very clear, and very kind. Just work on the study guide well and you should be fine.
She is definitely a Harvard quality professor. She is very smart and very clear. You are blessed to be in any of her classes for sure. She is also very kind and actually teaches really well!
Dr. Ferdon is passionate about the subject, but her lectures can get boring quickly due to the material. Tests were easy if you have common sense, little study and reading required. She's very nice and helpful, loves participation.
Dr. Ferdon is among the best professors I have ever had. Very easy to understand what she wants and if you take good notes or even glance at the study guide, you will get an A. I took good notes all semester and got 100 on 4/4 tests. Highly recommended and will take again for 350 and 421.
Professor Ferdon is the best professor I've had. She is incredibly intelligent and a good teacher. Those who say she was boring/didn't learn tend to be the types who do poorly in her class, the ones who don't want to learn. Probably LU's best professor.
Presents material in a very easy to understand way. Is truly interested in getting you to understand useful concepts and always seems pleased to answer questions. VERY knowledgeable about her field and has very interesting personal experiences that are always fun to hear about.
Ms. Ferdon makes Government so much more interesting.I would recommend taking Ms. Ferdon at least once. Prior to the class, I wasn't very interested in Government, but she has made it truly interesting since the very first week!
She was very good at teaching, one of the best professorial at Liberty.
Dr. Ferdon really includes a recap of her other classes in this one. I loved every lecture. As a class, we were glued to her every word. I enjoyed this class more than the other classes. I would recommend taking every class you can with Dr. Ferdon. She gives you tools and determination to hold to strong christian principles.
Dr. Ferdon is a brilliant woman. I learned so much from her. Her test are easy, they are right off the study guide so as long as you know that you will do great!
An overall great professor. Lectures were interesting, and she made sure to offer very helpful review sessions before each test.
Unfortunately, despite her intelligence, Dr. Ferdon's fatal flaw is she doesn't want students to synthesize information for the test, absorbing and describing what they've learned in their own way, but wants students instead to spit out what she says word for word or else.
Dr. Ferdon is the best professor I have had at Liberty. I had her for GOVT 200 and was so impressed with her intelligence, clarity, and liberal arts focus that I signed up for GOVT 421. Her tests are easy to master for those who comprehend the material, and she rewards those who show a genuine interest and speak up in class. Truly Harvardian.
Not the easiest class, but the teacher is THE BEST teacher I have ever had. I am a Gov major and I learned the most out of the one class I have had with her than all of my other gov classes!! She really knows her stuff!
Good teacher. Her class had nothing to do with Constitutional Government: it was more of a Biblical Worldview class. I also did not need two of the three books she required. But she taught the material well and clearly. Her tests were easy, therefore the class was easy.
Mrs. Ferdon has to be one of the smartest teachers I've ever met, and well versed in her area of expertise. However, she is by far the dullest teacher that I've EVER had in my life. Attendance is mandatory, therefore, I would not recommend her to anyone.
You have a total of four test which are the entirety of your grade. you are given a review sheet a week prior to the exam which details the test. she is an amazing professor the lectures seem to drag on but she makes them funny and keeps you engaged. she is probably one of the most knowledgeable and humble professor i have had tells great stories
Ferdon is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about American Constitutional Government which makes her lectures delightful to listen to. She is very noble and intimidating at first but as you get to know Ferdon, you discover she is also very witty, lighthearted, and kind. She absolutely loves her students! Take Ferdon, you will be blessed!!!
She is slightly too formal for my taste & always sounds like she's arguing a case before the supreme court. But she's brilliant, engages the class, tells great stories, & everyone I know loved her including me. I learned alot in her class. Her GSAs are nazis though. Never be a second late to class or you'll pay, & you cant leave early for anything!
Dr. Ferdon is extremely dedicated to her course material & lectures; her enthusiasm for conservative government and the constitution at 8:50 in the morning is unparalleled. However, her lectures are extremely long & scattered. Expect to be given loads of extra reading 'suggestions', be called on in class, & above all, never wear a hat to class.
Dr. Ferdon is always willing to help to her students, but you must put forth effort. Extremely intelligent and slightly intimidating at first, but once you talk with her she immediately puts you at ease. You should take the time to talk to her outside of class. She has lived such an interesting life, and her wisdom and stories are priceless.
Dr. Ferdon is simply amazing. I can't recommend GOVT 200 enough.
Wasn't so much of a government class but more of another biblical worldview class. Made high As on every test & the class while barely reading, not taking notes, & using all of my skips. Fill out the review & go to the review sessions to check you answers, study & you will be fine. She speaks like an encyclopedia. She is brilliant and very caring .
she's okay.
Dr. Ferdon is the most brilliant professor at LU. Anyone who complains about her attendance policy or her grading technique is lazy. You should be excited to soak up as much as possible from her. She is kind, funny, and knows everything. Her lectures are unparalleled and help your critical thinking skills. Take her and keep her notes!
The lectures are long and can be difficult to follow. The study sessions are great though and will help you do well on the tests.
Very intelligent professor, who definitely expresses her intellect in class. Dr. Ferdon's classes are very interesting, she always involves the class in big discussions. I would highly recommend her to anybody wishing to learn.
Great teacher definitely cares about every students and wants them to learn. Be prepared to read. Grades on 4 tests, but study guide is very useful and so are the review sessions. Lectures get long, but filled with great content. Highly recommend her for government 200.
Worst teacher I have ever taken. Very smart woman great to have discussions with outside of class. Should not be a teacher AT ALL. Lectures are impossible to get through. Will call on you and embarrasses you if you do not know the answer. Marks tardiness. Very opinionated. Almost switched my major because of her. Avoid her at all cost!
This is the type of professor that you absolutely love or completely hate. She comes on very overbearing sometimes, but she really does care about her students. Ferdon is so intelligent and has real experience. Her lectures as a whole aren't super interesting, but definitely pay attention to her stories and examples!
Gai Ferdon is so incredibly intelligent and is an amazing woman but her class is rough. She talks very fast, her lectures are hard to keep up with, and sometimes I don't even know what she talking about. I learned more in her review sessions taught by a grad student then I did in her class. The only grades in her class are four tests.
Only 4 tests. Lectures are confusing.
I liked the fact there were only 4 exams in her class because I hate having quizzes and assignments due every other day. If you study well for the exams, you'll get an A easily. Lectures are long and boring. She is also very strict about class attendance. You do not need to buy the books for her GOV 200 class.
One of the most pretentious professors I've had to listen to. Constantly brings up that she went to Cambridge and that she grew up in the Cold War Era. She speaks like she stepped right out of a 16th century movie and writes her test questions the same way. Extremely confusing lectures on things that aren't relevant to the class. Not accessible.
Ms. Ferdon was a very excellent. Although she is very intense, she is very well respected and has plenty of experience to back up her thoughts. I would 100% recommend taking her class again!
Dr. Ferdon is a fantastic professor. She is a subject matter expert and knows everything about government and even the history of what led to modern government. Her lectures are enjoyable and she is fair in her expectations of her class. However, you better study and have an eclectic understanding of the english vocabulary if you go to her class.
Dr. Ferdon is, no doubt, one of the smartest people I've ever heard speak. She is very brilliant. However, her teaching style and lexicon proved to be a challenge for me. Everything she said seemed to go over everyone's heads. I ended up having to drop her class and take it with a different professor because I had such a difficult time with her.
Snoozefest. Full of herself. Will tell long (fabricated) stories to justify her arguments instead of using quantitative reasoning or deductive logic. She's a goober, and I recommend you don't take this class with her. But the class isn't that hard if you study. Make sure you show up.
As a transfer student already taking many gov classes this was a nightmare. Dr Ferdon is as many said a very smart woman but the lecture are terribly boring. While the class isnt difficult its also not always helpful because she spends more time on personal stories than government material that will actually help. Also gov 200 dont buy books.
Biggest piece of advice: DON'T bother buying any of the textbooks except the pocket constitution. I spent a ton of money on them, & most of them are still in their plastic wrapping. Attend the review sessions and the exams will be a breeze. She's very strict on absences. Lectures tend to be boring so don't take it as an 8:15. Easy A if you study.
Dr. Ferdon is a very intelligent professor. I have taken her for multiple courses and have gained so much more knowledge from her classes. She is experienced in her field and discusses those experiences in relation to the course topics. I loved her as a professor, she is kind and wise when speaking one-on-one with students.
Ferdon is a great professor because she has a lot of experience - one of her favorite topics would be the Cold War and her familiarity with communist individuals. She has an interesting background and her high position in the Government degree program makes students want her attention. The class grade is based on attendance and 4 tests.
Dr. Ferdon is hands down one of the most brilliant people I have ever had the privilege of studying under. She is smart, witty, and passionate about her field. I've taken several of her classes, but GOVT 421 has been by far my favorite. If you have the chance, take this class! If you do the reading, it's not too hard, and you will learn a lot.
The most brilliant Professor and person that I have ever met. She really cares for her students in a way that is simply unparalleled. Liberty University is beyond blessed to have her as a teacher. I was inspired by her in depth knowledge of the subject and her stories of how God has used her in a mighty way.
When I first heard those clanky heels walk into the classroom behind a partial-British accent, I was convinced that the next 16 weeks of my life with her would be hell. However, after only a few classes later, I soon realized that this professor demonstrated a genuine love for her students and commended fierce respected from myself and others.
Only 4 tests for the class. Each worth 250 points. Thats all the grades. Her lectures everyday have 0 content and are just her talking about whatever she thinks fits. The tests would be impossible without the G.A. study sessions. They are a must to pass the class
If you are even the slightest bit interested in government, take anything taught by Dr. Ferdon. She is the nicest professor and is a genius. Her lectures are amazing and if you go to the study sessions provided, you'll easily ace every test.
Dr. Ferdon is one of the most intelligent individuals I have met. While her lectures tend to be a bit dry she often tells great stories. Don't let her firm presentation fool you - she's an extremely caring woman. GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS! They give you all you need to know for the 4 tests for the year. The tests are the only grades for the class.
Dr. Ferdon is truly one of the most brilliant people I have ever encountered. She is so respected and really wants her students to understand the importance of the American government. Be ready to read the material for the tests, there is no quizzes or other assignments.
She gives strong lectures, and offered review sessions for the exams.
Ferdon is an extremely gifted intellectual. If you don't like lectures though, this may not be the class for you. Only four assignments are graded throughout the year (four tests), but they are not difficult due to her optional exam review sessions where answers are essentially given. She is an incredible professor who I hope to take again.
Her class could have been very interesting, however, she spent every class lecturing in a monotone voice about God (applicable, but to an extent) and not government. Had 5-6 TAs who did nothing except stop you and mark you late if you came in even 1min late. A fascinating/brilliant person but not a good, engaging or understanding teacher.
Would 100% not take her again. I find her as a person fairly interesting but her lectures are worse than most funerals. Shes monotone and makes reading the dictionary start to finish seem interesting. She is brilliant and it is obvious but she comes across as book smart rather than people smart. I fell asleep 80% of my classes it was that bad
This class was hard. I am not a government major, so her lectures were harder to understand. The only grades in the class is from 4 Tests worth 250 points each. A senior provided review sessions, and that was the only way I understood the content. Ferdon is a lovely lady and you should take the class if you are a government major. Lots of reading.
Best professor Ive had so far hands down. So much wisdom and teaches things in a very understandable way. She also gives a study guide for every exam and the questions are very fair.
She is literally the queen of the Helms School of Government. She is super wise and knows what she is talking about. You have to do all the readings and pay attention in her class if you want to pass with a good grade. Take her even if her class is hard, she challenges you in ways that can make you ready for your future!!
Really awesome professor. I'm liberal, but I found her lectures challenging and engaging. Do the work and you should be fine.
Gives you a lot of reading material but if you read and take notes you'll do well on exams, which is all that is assigned. Extremely lecture heavy, but that's not unusual for her. My only complaints are that because of COVID there were no review sessions for study guides which made studying harder and her exams were often long. I liked the class.
Dr. Ferdon is very kind and intelligent and has very clear expectations for tests and assignments. She does provide review guides which are exceptionally helpful. While the lectures are nice for familiarizing yourself with the material and are very interesting(if you enjoy deep critical thought and economics), attendance isn't helpful to your grade
Dr. Ferdon is a compelling professor and a truly fair grader. As someone not at all interested in domestic politics or economics, I was very skeptical about the course content. While she didn't fully convert me, I learned so much and it was all thanks to her truly interesting lectures. Her tests were difficult, but the study guide was perfect!
Ferdon is a wonderful woman and one of the most brilliant profs at liberty. She is test heavy and uses lectures to inspire students to think more about hard questions. She has a great passion for biblical truth. For those who say she is impersonal, meet with her and see her great passion for students. She is in govt and teaching bc she loves people
Ferdon is AWESOME!! She has an unbelievable level of knowledge and experience coupled with a genuine love for the Constitution. She is overall amazing and I will aim to take her again, however, she tends to leach similar classes to Prof Van Allen, who is much easier to get a better grade under. She is great but do Van Allen if you have the chance.
I love Dr. Ferdon! She is tough but it only makes you succeed. She is caring and you can see that she is passionate about her work. She is extremely intelligent and has an extensive amount of experience. She is someone who will always challenge you to work your hardest.
Dr. Ferdon is probably one of the most in-depth professors at the University. She has such an amazing way of going into the Constitution's founding that I believe her wisdoms and guidance are something everyone in the US should hear at least once. The course has 8 Exams and no other assignments, so prepare to study for these.
Dr. Ferdon is extremely intelligent. Students either hate or love her. I really enjoyed her class and learned a lot. She does assign A LOT of reading, but you can pass by just skimming. Exams are about every 1.5 weeks and progressively get harder. If you pay attention in class and have good test-taking skills, you will easily receive an A or B.
She is amazing. Brilliant and a genius. She cares for her students and wants everyone to know truth. Great professor with great lectures.
Dr. Ferdon knew what she was teaching upon, but failed to reciprocate the information well to students. Often times it seemed as though she was speaking to a room full of fellow professors. Very lecture heavy, and you only get grades by taking exams. 100% recommend taking the course, but just with a different professor.
Ferdon is one of the greatest professors I have ever had. I am a TA for her know, I admire her so much, as one of her former students said, "You thing you are just getting another class and by the end of it you think you are freaking John Adams"
Dr. Ferdon has been the worst professor I have had at Liberty. She will not answer questions via email and does not provide help outside of class. The exams are on material not discussed in the lectures. She teaches her lectures like she is talking to other professors. Do not take this class with her! :(
Super difficult to work with. Did not respect me as a student.
Dr. Ferdon is the best professor I have had at Liberty University. Although she can be a little "over your head" at times, she presents a lot of rich information that is beneficial inside and outside the classroom. Unlike other commenters, I found her to be very diligent at responding to emails and grading assignments quickly.
I would not recommend you take this class. she is very test heavy with each test ranging from 200-250 points and you final exam worth over 300 points. With that being said, you have to do well on all tests to get somewhat of a good grade. Her lectures are very boring and speaks to students like they are professors as well.
Currently taking this class and Dr. Ferdon is so far great. She is very knowledgeable in her field. Beware that your grade only consists of tests so make sure you study and you'll do fine. The tests in general are extremely hard. The information taught was hard for me to follow, but the rest of the class seemed like they were catching on.
her class does not feel like a government class today, it feels much more like a philosophy class. i feel as if i have not learned anything about government and her tests make no sense. her class is a no technology class and she has ta's watching you like a hawk. strict and usually not available out of class.
Dr. Ferdon's a great professor but can be over your head at times. She's very strict about not talking in class, technology, and dress code. Her tests consist of all your grade so to do well you must study. The reading isn't optional since half of the tests come straight from your textbook and the other half come from the textbooks and Power points
One of my favorite professors in the whole program. She's very intelligent and speaks at high levels of rhetoric. Her classes are built for good test-takers and auditory learners. In most of her classes, she has 4 exams which are very consistent with her study guides. Read, listen, and study and you will learn and pass the class with a high grade.
This was the easiest class I've taken so far at Liberty. Your grade consists of 8 exams which alternate from being 10% to 15% of your grade each. All you need to do is the reading for each exam, which is usually about 50 pages each time, and that's the only work you need to do for the semester. I didn't pay any attention in class and got a 99% avg.
Dr. Ferdon is a well respected and dedicated professor. She really cares about her students. She really knows what she is talking about and will challenge your knowledge and preconceptions. If you absorb half of what she tells you, you'll be more knowledgeable than most people in academia, let alone America. Prepare to read.
Dr. Ferdon was an amazing professor! She's extremely intelligent, which is apparent throughout her lectures. Her lectures are very detailed & nuanced, which can make it hard to pay attention at times. If you're going to take notes, they must be handwritten - no electronics allowed. The only grades you receive are her 8 exams (including the final).
Dr. Ferdon was my favorite professor during my time at the HSOG. She is ambitious and passionate about her topics and straight to the point. If you think she is too harsh, you're simply not meant to be a government student. She will prepare you for the real world and cares about your character. Easy tests if you read the study guides
Dr. Ferdon knows what she is talking about, however, communication with new students is not there necessarily. You are graded on four tests BE SURE to read the next question before answering often times the answer is in the next question. She is strict on the dress code and attendance, don't come to class? You won't pass.
Dr Ferdon is one of those professors that I intentionally took free electives with because of how incredibly knowledgeable she is about everything she teaches. She could easily be teaching at an Ivy League school but pours her heart into the students of LU. Her exams CAN be difficult, bit she inspires you to strive for excellence.
Ferdon is very obviously intelligent, and she loves to make sure you know it. During lectures, there's limited content outside of reading off of slides. There will be no assignments; your only grades will be based off of the 8 tests scattered through out the semester. If you don't do well with self guided teaching, I wouldn't recommend this class.
Dr. Ferdon is orderly and well-informed. For GOV 200, pay attention in class, read and study the material, complete exams (the only source of grades), and don't miss class (she is very strict on attendance). You must fend for yourself and consult with classmates because she does not make herself available to approach beyond class.
One of the best government professors you will ever take at this school. She is very knowledgeable of what she teaches and cares about how her students are understanding her lectures. She is quick to answer emails or messages on Canvas and is gracious. She may seem strict, but in reality she has a heart of gold. I wish she was my mentor.
Dr. Ferdon is one of my favorite professors in the Helms School of Government. Her classes are test and quiz-heavy, but she gives out study guides for each quiz and exam. These study guides are usually close to exhaustive; if you prepare, you will do well. Her lectures are well-informed and she is a brilliant mind.
Dr. Ferdon is by far one of the best professors I have encountered at Liberty thus far. Dr. Ferdon is an amazing lecturer and would consistently deliver articulate and knowledgable lectures on a daily basis. Dr. Ferdon consistently stayed in accordance with the overview, and I always felt I was walking away from her lectures learning quite a lot.
I write a review Dr. Ferdon every semester. She is favorite professor in HSOG. I took multiple classes with her and have also been a TA. She is extremely intelligent and really challenges her students. To top it off, her exams are super straightforward, and her rubrics are clear. She is very lecture-heavy, but they're engaging. TAKE DR. FERDON!
Dr. Ferdon's lectures are informative, but her teaching style can be challenging. The class relies heavily on self-study. Using unstuck ai and working with classmates helped me stay on top of the material and succeed in the course.
Dr. Ferdon's inspiring intelligence and care for her students makes for very clear expectations and unobscured grading criteria. Keeping with instructions and all assigned reading ensures success on all assignments and exams. It is understood that perfection won't be achieved, but you are expected to, as she says, give a "good faith attempt."
Dr. Ferdon is absolutely AMAZING. She is extremely Intelligent and holds so much wisdom. I will miss her class greatly!
Dr. Ferdon is very intelligent and knowledgeable, but I don't like her teaching style. I think that because she herself is so smart, she expects everyone else to also know everything. She also just dumps a ton of information, lectures, and readings, and it is difficult to know what is actually important.
She speaks in an outdated language and will speak in circles to seem educated. Often she will teach material you won't need to know for exams. She also WILL NOT allow you to review your exam to see what you got wrong which makes it impossible to learn and improve. Genuinely a good person, but not a fun professor to take if you're trying to get an A
Professor Ferdon was not a bad professor, however I did not find her lectures engaging at all. It felt like she would bounce around from topic to topic a lot. I felt like sometimes the way she talked to the students came across as demeaning. However, she does have lots of expertise and is very knowledgeable.
345: Very genuine lady but is definitely not for everyone. She is very difficult to pay attention too and covers so much material that you do not need to know for the quizzes/exams. Fortunately, the exams were very easy if you study the power points. She also gives very helpful study guides. But showing up to class did not make a difference for me.
Dr. Ferdon is knowledgable and can refer you to a lot of resources. However, many of these aren't on the 8 examinations taken, so it is best to wait for the review sheets before diving into material that may not be tested on. Very lecture and reading heavy, tests taken on paper. You can typically dispute rationale for answers and gain points.
Dr. Ferdon is a brilliant and respected professor! She takes her classes seriously and expects her students to do the same. Dr. Ferdon pushes her students to understand our nation's founding, loves the Lord, and is unintentionally hilarious! Take her class if you want a thought-provoking, classy, and challenging professor. I love Ferdon!
I had Dr. Ferdon for my entire undergraduate career, and she is nothing less than an exceptionally intelligent and talented professor. Are her courses difficult, yes, but that is to be expected, it is not high school anymore. She is a very fair grader, her study guides are straightforward, and she usually gives xtra cred on exams. Take her classes
Ferdon is a very intelligent professor, & expects her students to be also. was not a big fan of her & the class. very strict on attendance & gives out tardies the minute class starts. be prepared to have an exam every other week. GSA and TA will give an absence for pulling out your phone for 2 seconds. she's intense but knows what she's teaching.
When she doesn't finish the slides, we take the exam without being taught all of the material. After the exam, we continue with what we did not finish, making us even farther behind for the next exam. This continues until students are teaching themselves 100% of the material. If I had known, I would have done online; I was already teaching myself.
Dr. Ferdon knows the Constitutional Tradition well. The course texts are insightful. While lectures can be drawn out and content coverage be drawn out, her exams are fair. She values students who attempt to ask or answer questions in the class regularly. Caveat: If you do, you may need to say you don't know an answer. She respects that.
