Extremely organized. Great lecturer. Tests are difficult, but not extremely so

Difficult class i have to admit... Struggled to the end and finally got a B and i was happy enough!!! But her teaching is good and clear!
Instructor is very organized and the course is somewhat difficult. Yet, the instructor teaches math as if you had a previous math 52 course. The clarity is not good. I would recommend Yiang. This instructor is usually listed as "staff".
Not a very nice woman, and she made the class much more difficult than it needed to be. I dropped it half way through the semester, then took Padilla for Math 52 and got a B without putting much effort into the class.
Nice person, but bland teacher. Does EVERYTHING from the textbook which makes going to class pointless, since she doesn't explain it much better than the book.
She goes way to fast and covers too much material! If you just need to pass, then I reccomend taking Padilla.
she is not that hard. no homework at all. take good notes and catch up her at all time. 3 exams and 1 final, if your final is higher than any one of the exam, it will replace that.
sheis super hard do not take her
She's not a good teacher at all!!!
Many students say(but they're not sure) Edinger is good and easy, but she is not. Her tests are not reasonable and she takes off many points for trivial small mistakes. She is not recommended. I got A though.
The class is tough, but she tries hard to make it as interesting and as applicable as possible. She is available and willing to help students whenever possible.
Very thorough teacher. I got a D in Roebuck's class, and an A in Edinger's class. I suck in math, but still got an A. Not hot to most students, but for some strange reason, I found her pleasing to the eye.
Her lectures are so clear and well-organized. I liked her class. Her lectures made me easy to understand Precalculus. and my other friend is taking her Math 8. and He also likes how she does her lecture. One problem of her Math 2 is you can't drop anytest
This was a horrible class with a horrible teacher. Not to mention the fact that she isn't very friendly either.
She explains well but if you are not good in math it is suiside to take her. I saw people who are ok in math fail her class. She does not try to help you at all, if you have questions she will brush you off. I do not recomend her.
I do not recommend her!! She just reiterates the examples in the book during lecture. Absolutely worst math professor at SMC. Plus, you'll have a hard time seeing her if you sit towards the middle or back of the class - i think she's like 4'5"
You need a math teacher that explains things, not one that reads straight out of the book. Need a teacher to give you helpful hints and outline strategies to solve problems. You won't get much of that from her. TOUGH GRADER. Exams NOT EASY.
Unless u want a challenging teacher & have alot of time to study dont take her. She drops 1 quizz & doesnt drop any tests. no extra credit, no practice tests, & about 12 quizzes. has alot of test probs that are worth like 10 pts.Her lectures r organized
for me, the material is not difficult, but her lecutre is very boring, do not expect any fun from her. the exam is not that easy, no extra credit, cannot drop test. if u are not good at math, dont take her.
Very organized, if you follow the lecture there shouldn't be a reason not to get an A. Don't have to do HW just study for tests. She makes the subject seem very simple. Recommended.

She basically comes to class, does her lessons, and leaves. She won't go any further to help her students succeed. Her lectures are boring--a lot of the time it seems she doesn't even want to be there. If you ask questions from just one chapter back she is likely get annoyed. NOT TEACHING MATERIAL!
It's not like teaching is the joy of her life but I appreciate the methodical and organized style. If you're a good student you will have no problem. Her tests are straight forward from the lecture only, and no tricks. If you do the homework, it's a breeze. Not every teacher is a happy camper.

she just read a textbook. No explain, no helps at all and boring lecture.
Straight foward teaching method. Do the hw and study your notes. On the test she'll ask you, "prove by mothods used in class" and if you use the book's way, or the way a tutor taught you, she'll give you no credit >.< Don't take the night class or you'll get bored and end up skipping class.
Statistics is not fun in general, but I learned a lot in this class. She's really straight fwd and if you come to all her classes and take good notes, her tests and quizzes come right from them. I never did homework or read the book. Just studied notes and practiced the problems she did on the board. Not any opport to make up lost points though.
She uses redundont words and Aah ah in every sentences. It's kind of annoying.
Statistics isn't a fun course to take, so don't take it if you don't need it. Edinger is not a easy grader at all. In order to do well inher class: (1) Go to every class, take good note (2) Do all the assigned home work (3) Study really hard beforer exams. She gives triky questions on the exams. Make sure you master everything she taught in class.
She gave clear and organized lectures. If you do the homework or go over the notes, it's really easy to get a good grade. I like her way of teaching very much. She could be one of the clearest Math teacher I ever had.
I had so much fun in this class. She writes down all the notes on the board, thus making everything a breeze. All you have to do is study the notes she gives and you will get an A in the class(I'm talking from experience).
Very organized teacher, gives easy to understand notes. She gives weekly quizzes and includes some of the same questions onto the tests. Final was somewhat difficult but with her notes it was easy to study for it. Stats isn't too difficult as it is and with her you feel like your not even taking a college level math class.
Extremely well organized and follows her lesson plan. You always know where you are in her class. Final is comprehensive and doesn't stray too far from her lectures.
Prof Edinger's lectures are great! She is easy to follow and has a way of making a dry subject seem interesting. Her exams are straight from her lectures so there are no surprizes. Be sure to go to every class and DO THE HOMEWORK! It makes a huge difference in your grade.
Professor Edinger is a REALLY great professor! She explains difficult concepts well -- her notes are straightforward, clear and her tests, though a bit challenging, are what you'd expect. She's fair, observant, caring. She makes an effort to stay energetic and upbeat, no matter how late the class runs. I'd take her again if she teaches Math 8.
Gives quizzes so that you don't have to turn in HW...tests are reasonable...but I like her mostly because her lectures are really good. So good that you don't need to read the book for clarification of anything. She is the best!
Strict teacher but very helpful
Edinger really loves calc & it shows. Tests are hard but fair! Calc is not easy but she is avail to answer questions. She is prepared for lectures and keeps to her syllabus. Quizes help keep you up to date on HW. Go to every class & ask questions - it will help!
She spends most of her time going over the theory rather than the actual problems. I felt lost and uninterested in the theory, since all I wanted was to know how to do the problems and get the correct answer, and when she gets to do the problems she doesn't finish them. Her style of teaching seems lazy and a bit adolenscent at times.
i was international student at first semester. she was really kind and helpful. besides, she had well-organized syllabus that i could keep up with her class even though i had communication proble with her. her test was not easy, but if you study hard base on hw, you can get A.. i got A!! good luck!!
Not reasonable time to study corrected home work before a test. Most of the time you would turn in home work the day of the test and NOT get it back til after the test. Some time however you would get it back the day of the test given you know time to study your results.
Her class is fairly easy. Focus on her notes and homework problems and you'll be sure to do well in her class. She explains everything to the last details and writes all the notes down on the board for you.
Very nice, organized and knowledgeable professor. She explains everything clearly. Math 10 was a very interesting and fairly easy course. I learned a lot from her. Just do hw and study based on the lecture notes for tests.
Enjoyed this class. Very organized and simple to understand, you cant get lost in this class. Take notes in class everyday. You dont have to worry about reading the text, she explains it all. Very tough grader, plays by the rule book.
She's the best! I hate math and was worried about stats, but this class was EASY. She's well organized, gives great notes and reviews what will be on the test before every exam. Half of the class is using the calculator and the other half is knowing what formulas to use. She lets you use a formula card on exams so you don't have to memorize them!
She teaches you on an easy level and then tests you on the really tough material. Tests nothing like the HW/lectures. Makes the subject harder than it already is. Class started with 45 people, only 16 remained. No partial credit.
I was really surprised at her exams. It was unexpected. Problems were extremely hard. Class was full at the beginning of class but about 70% dropped after second exams. Take her if you are a genius....
Nice Professor. Just take good notes and concentrate on the class you will be fine. anyway i got an A in this class Study you will be fine.
well statistics is not an sipmle course. But her lectures were very well organized and she helped out students at the math lab. She's a very good teacher. Do your hw and study for the exams...ask questions, she'll answer them all.
Great teacher. Very organized and writes ALL notes on the board for you so all you have to do is copy it down. online assignments are easy but test are easy to study for if you really study your notes but just concentrate and you'll get an A
She was nice teacher. Her class was very fast, but very organized and clear. If you have good attendance and understand your note, you can get at least "A or B".
everyone knows Calculus is not a easy subject.it is still not. but but everyone who wanna pass calculus, i strongly suggest you to take her class. you might feel it is a little challenging in the class but if you go to class everyday, you will really learn which can help you in your later math course. She truly loves calculus.
I took math10 class last fall, lecture was pretty well organized. However, the test was way harder than expected. nice person, but tests are hard. If you are taking math52, you will be fine. BUt not for math10.
took this teacher fall 08..PROS: very nice person and explains problems with examples on the board..open to questions..nice handwritting =)..always in her office during office hours..drops lowest grade and replaces it w/final CONS: moves quite fast as the chapters get harder...final is cummulative and harder than i thought..
If you're a math genius take her. If you struggle, avoid her. She writes good notes (but not great), but her homework does not help you. It's an online homework program which you buy and NOT Mac-friendly.
I dreaded coming to this class...the notes were long and the lectures were tedious. I wouldnt reccomend her
Shes a great teacher, I recommend her for those who want to study calculus and further math. To be honest, I have a strong math background and I feel one or two questions challenging in her every test, but if you use your logic and do your hw everyday, it won't be hard for you...She knows what she teaches !
If you're thinking about taking her class, make sure you are very strong in math. Professor Edinger is a tough grader with high expectations. She doesn't provide a review sheet for the cumulative final exam. Answers all questions you may have. She's extremely intimidating. I'd actually recommend taking math at a different college.
Avoid this professor at all costs!
She is awesome. Quizzes are straight from the homework, and tests similarly should be no problem if you do all of the homework. I crashed her class after spending two days in Hong's class, which was terrifying. Seriously. Take Edinger's class! She's nice and she has ridiculously good chalkboard handwriting.
Mrs. Edinger is a nice lady. However, when it comes teaching, not so nice. She has clear hand writing and explains things step by step this is true. However, her exams are from another planet. There are very few mult choice questions and most of all her exams are long word problems. If Your good at math she may be the 1 for u but if not avoid her.
She's a great prof. & is always available during her office hrs to help anyone with his/her prob(s). Be serious, do the homework right after class. She takes quizzes on every Thursdays, so be prepaired(easy quizzes). There will be atleast one chanlenging problem is her tests, however if you understand the logic and do the hws, you won't have prob.
You can get an A if you go to class EVERY SINGLE DAY. She omits a lot of hard material out of the text. But go over tests carefully... she sometimes makes valuable mistakes!!!
Took her for Math 7 and 8, and got an A in both. Her classes are exactly as difficult as they should be if students are to actually learn the material. Good at math, then work hard and you will get an A. Weak at math, and you will have to work very hard to do well. She is very clear and organized; serious, but nice and helpful. Recommended!
The best math teacher ever! If you come to class every time, do the assignments, and take notes you will do very well. She is very clear in her explanations and knows calculus very well. She is also a very caring person and wants her students to do well but she won't put up with B.S. so don't try it.
Great in explaining things. If you show up and do the homework you will pass with flying colors.
she is reallllly good. shes not that hard and explains everything pretty well. if ur good in maths. easy A ! take her! plus there is practice everyday in class and it makes it easier for the HW ! and u its not mandary to do the hw she doesnt check
Explains concepts well, clear handwriting, but then puts q's on exam that make it difficult even if you know the stuff.Tests are unfair, much needless arithmetic, and too long to finish. Understood material and couldnt get an A on any tests.
Professor Edinger was great! She goes quickly through the Introductory Algebra stuff so if you have a question you'll need to holler. Other than the quickness of her teaching she has a terrific grading policy, show all your work and you won't get a problem completely wrong. She did take attendance for a while but stopped a few weeks in.
Took for Math 7,8,13. She is very clear and organized. Exams are not terribly easy but fair. Class is intended to teach you the material, no more, no less, no tricks. Work hard, do the homework (some collected in 13, no collection in 7 and 8), and you can get an A. Three exams, you can replace lowest with final if better. Great Professor!
Alright, I took this class during winter session and let me tell you this is not some easy math class to take to fill the requirement, she makes you work your ass off. She is pretty clear with her lectures but, super anal about grading the HOMEWORKK which is a ****!I did alot of work in that class and got a B... Not a bad prof. though
Absolutely Fabulous!
She really doesn't teach. She copies frome her notes to the board, she writes as fast as she can and moves to the next problem before we're done copying. Her tests are lame. She makes stupid questions worth the most points. I expect her to make us write an essay on the next test. Take Kennedy or Askarian instead. They're REAL teachers!
Of all math teachers I've had, I would have to say the Gail Edinger is by far the lowest quality. Her teaching methods are amateurish and after she (fails to) teach you the material, she hammers you down with difficult tests. It's clear she doesn't enjoy her job and it shows throughout her class. Should be teaching highschool, not college.
I feel like I'm back in high school the way she teaches. Her first two exams were okey/fair but after the "W" deadline her test got extremely hard. Her final was just something else. Office hours were no help. I had a ton of question and all she would do is tell me to look in my notes or in the book, or just say something to get me out of there.
Listen, Edinger is a good teacher. Her notes are pristine and much more helpful than the book. She tells you exactly what you'll need to know for the tests and if you do the homework you can get an A! She is somewhat obsessed with following directions, so keep that in mind when turning in projects.
Easily the worst math instructor at SMC. Take anyone (and I mean ANYONE) else instead.
I took her Math 7 and 8 and got both As. I got perfect scores or nearly perfect scores for all tests, including finals. Don't expect you can really master all materials and get A without sacrificing a lot of leisure time and working extremely hard. She is very clear, nice and helpful. She is my favorite professor and she'll be forever!
Her lectures are really clear but has confusing tests and when it comes to the HW she doesnt answer questions only in her office hours. If your not good at math then dont take her
Her lectures are very clear and organized so they are easy to understand. Her notes are easier than explanations from the textbook so try to attend class. HOWEVER, level of tests is far beyond your expectation and anticipation. Her test questions problems that weren't even covered in the homework/notes. Unless confident in math, do not take her.
terrible teacher keep away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i had an A in the class just b4 the final and then she made the final reallllllllll long and she gave me a B!! and at least half of the class didnt finish the final!!! really bad!!! shes heartless!! she took nity picky points offf!!! u never cud be nice w her bc she was not nice.. !!:(
Very helpful teacher she uses the book alot. no a great deal of workload the hw is not mandatory but it helps. Take this teacher shes really good and pretty easy
MAN I DROPPED HER CLASS, NO HOPE, USELESS, ALWAYS WITH HER "EY" NOT A COLLABORATIVE LADY.
Excellent professor. Gives good lectures-but this is a class where it's good to read beforehand. A tough class, but an excellent preparation for a four year university. She drops the lowest test and replaces the score with the score on your final. That's how I got an A even with scoring a 72 on one exam (but I cleaned up my act).
OK hey, I'm going to copy a really easy example from my notes, hey. If you want to see another example I'll let you take a look at the book, hey. I like to break people into study groups hey, but it won't help hey. Because on the exam hey, I will test you on retarded problems you've never seen before hey. It's a way to make me feel superior hey.
Great teacher.Nice hand writing, precise notes. Has six collected hw assignments all semester, although you should do hw daily to stay ahead. Midterms are 65% of your grade and are based heavily on homework assignments from the book. The final exam is worth 25% and is cumulative. Homework is worth 10%. Replaces your lowest midterm score with final.
Professor Edinger has everything one would presumably want from a calculus professor; clear lectures, great communication skills, VERY easy quizzes, straightforward exams and an easy final exam. Take her without hesitation, do all of the homework (even though it is not collected) and enjoy the semester!
She was one of the best math teachers ever. She was so clear. As long as you come to class and listen to lectures, and do the homework (just for your own understanding), you should do well. I would deffinately take her class again.
When I read these, I was intimidated to start the class. But, she ended up being one of the BEST math teachers I've ever had. Clear, basically feeds you the notes. Test is on notes no surprises, she takes time to print copies...3 exams+1 final-> drops lowest test score. In class group wksheets EASY, 2 projects easy as well just use notes!
Linear algebra is not easy but she makes the subject easy. 3 exams with the lowest score replace by final exam. Exams are straight forward with 1-2 prove questions in each exam, others are just computation. She collects homework every class (10%grade). Final exam is extremely easy so don't give up.
i got an A+ for precalculus.this class is extremely good for people that aren't good at math. because she makes u study. EVERY week u have a quiz and sometimes a test too. but they are really easy and if u just read her notes ull be fine. I'm good at math so the class kinda got boring for me but she is a very good teacher.goes VERY fast and says EH
She teaches so clear and the exams are very easy. I got 100 in 4 of 6 exams, so I highly recommend her to students who are looking for A.
she looks like my grandma and her knowledge is somewhat comparable to her. doesn't know anything beyond the course. if you want to feel like you're in high school again feel free to take her!
Knowledgeable Pro. however lectures were taught@ a fast pace.Notes had to be copied off the board.Quizes fairly easy,I found the exams difficult tho.Quizes&exams both free response(No multiple choice)so you HAVE to study!Grade is based on quizzes, exams,&prjts,(NO HW, NO XTRA CREDIT)very impt to do good in all.STUDYING IS A MUST IF NOT GOOD IN MATH!
Standard/good quality. The material for stats is hard, you have to study and do homework. She does what she can to assist her students and her tests/grading are no unfair. She prepares you for university level math, for that, I appreciate her. She does look kinda like those southpark unisex future people with orange skin though.
She is best statistics professor in SMC. Take this class!!
She's very helpful and a really good math teacher. Quizzes are easy, exams are hard but if you study, you can get A's on them. Homework doesn't get turned in, but it's very helpful.
Her lecture is super organized and clear. Homework is not mandatory, but if you do all the homework you can get easy A.
Simply put: study, study, study! This class is no joke and very difficult, but she is fair. Her lectures are crystal clear and she is very helpful. Class projects are easy, exams are hard and cover a lot of material. Do the homework, make study groups, and put time into this class if you want to pass.
She is the best professor i have ever met. Her class is very helpful and clear, exam is easy if you do the homework. She is nice to answer all your questions. Got an A with almost 100 average grade! I will enroll her math 13 in this fall.
She is a best professor in SMC. I got A on this class. Her exam was very clear and easy. If u study her lecture and homework, you can get easy "A". There is no any tricky or tough question. Her final was harder than normal exams, but still easy(just covered lecture and homework). If you wanna get easy A on the calculus class, just take her!
Just an amazing professor. Her lectures are extremely organized and clear, making it easy to take notes and follow her lesson. Tests/final were quite difficult but fair. Know how to do EVERY homework problem and understand everything from lecture and there should be no big surprises. I was surprised by how much I liked this class. She's my favorite
She was a good teacher, but her exams were very difficult. There will be questions you aren't prepared for unless you're lucky enough to find questions outside the book to practice. Go to office hours, she will help. Also, practice every proof you can. She loves proofs. The final was almost all proofs.
I rely on my notes from her class for my advanced stats class at UCLA. Take down everything she says, memorize the exact way she words concepts (you will see it later). Get free tutoring at the math lab and go in to office hours. I appreciate Edinger more than ever now that I have a horrible professor for stats at my transfer school. She is great!
She is a great teacher but only for those who are willing to do the work. She does go fast and I felt like she was treating it like review so those who already took precalc might have it easier, but i knew people who never took it and did well. If you are absent just one day you could be screwed. Quizzes are easy but tests are extremely hard.
Very Clear and Concise, however I feel she takes off a lot of points for mistakes. So in order to get an A you need to be on point and understand your stuff. Studying regularly and doing the homework is definitely a must. She has a lot on in class projects so it makes it easy to form a clique with folks, and she has two major group projects.
Took her for Fall 2012. I had taken this class in high school which prepared me well to take it again with her. She's very organized and clarifies things you don't understand. She tells you when she's going to give you a quiz and her tests are not difficult if you do the homework. (homework is optional) I would definitely recommend her!
By far worst math teacher I've taken. I have taken cal 1,2,3, and differential equations. Hw difficulty to test is ridiculous. Not one prom from book has the difficulty need to prep WHen its test time nothing you did will help. She is good friends with nestler so she get test questions from him. I dont know why they both dont have the same rating.
She is a great teacher! Her lessons are crystal clear. You would most likely understand everything in class but if you don't keep up with the homework (optional) you won't remember anything. Her exams are straight forward. I took her scholars class, wasn't hard.
I took her scholars class so it was more work than regular but Stat is a hard subject PERIOD. With that said, she actually taught pretty well but her office hours are very inconvenient. Not merciful with grades. But she's pretty nice and fair overall.
She was great with being clear and precise for what she wanted and i really enjoyed her class and her grading is fair but there is no negotiating. Tests will be easy if you follow along.
Pr. Edinger is just brilliant. i never had so crystal clear lectures like she gave us. Attendance and homework is not mandatory but if you want to get a good great is't the must. Exams are fairy easy, final just a breeze. She also gives them back on the next day. I would definitely recommend her. Best math professor at smc.
Extremely hard class, specially the scholars. If you have never taken precal/trig, do not take scholars. 85% of the class dropped. If you are a mathematician take it.
tough but fair and helpful
Teaches well, but gives way too much homework and also marks you down for every little thing on a test. Making one small error could cost you a whole letter grade. Offers help if you need it, but expects you to know calculus for random homework assignments. Do not take unless you have nothing else to do with your time but study.
Most amazing professor at SMC. Do your hw
Scholars Stats: I would NOT recommend taking this class. This professor is very difficult. She marks off points for every little mistake on exams, which costs you major points & grades. She does not grade on a curve. Exams are difficult. Her office hours are inconvenient on purpose. She is uninterested in helping her students. She's nonnegotiable.
Sweet on the exterior, but an unhelpful and disorganized professor. Difficulty of problems on the exams are on a completely different level than those assigned for homework. Not a good lecturer nor a good educator. Likes to rush to the end halfway through lecture, so good luck doing anything more than furiously scribbling - forget about thinking.
Her lectures are good somedays and rushed others. Tests are somewhat easy but her grading is very harsh. One trivial mistake can cost a full letter grade. She will never admit she made a mistake on grading an exam. Often it's not about the right answer it's about her seeing what she wants to see. ppl who did well in my class had old exams.
One of the best professors at SMC. She is very organized and delivers lectures in a clear manner so it's easy to understand. I took her for Stats and it was scholars (I had no idea) and got an A. She's a tough grader and takes points off for minimal errors but she makes sure you actually learn not just memorize. If you want to really learn take her
Stats is a very time oriented subject. No who you have, you have to do your homework each day, practice problems, & study. She was extremely helpful during class, made it pretty easy to take somewhat neat notes, & was nice. Form a study group, do your homework ALWAYS, and focus, and you can do well, even if math isn't your strong point.
She's the best math professor I've had ever. She is very organized, which is a plus point for anyone who likes to follow the syllabus. She can get a little fast in lectures sometimes but thats because it is either a scholars class or its math 8. She teaches very well too and she answers questions clearly. i recommended all my friends to take her.
Good teach, very well organized and knew exactly what she's talking about. You don't have to attend class every day but you should do all your homework. She's a tough grader, it could cost you a letter grade. Just do your homework and remember to use units on all final answers.
Let me firstly say that Edinger was one of the better math teachers I've take. I've taken Math classes before, but she's by far one of the bettDr teachers. Work is crazy hard, studied 7+hrs a day sometimes and she grades "within an inch of your life" on the latter material. I did love the class it actually made me "learn" the material not just know
Best math professor I have every had at SMC. She makes everything so much easier to understand. The tests and final are all composed of questions from the book so do the optional book homework everyday. There are weekly homework assignments due for credit that are a little hard, but are manageable.
Edinger is def one of the best math professors at SMC, and she gives very fair tests. Pre-Cal is a tough class so if you are expecting to get an easy A it won't happen, but if you are willing to work hard and avoid getting too behind on homework you should be fine. You will have to study a lot for pre-cal if you have never taken this class before
SHE IS SO HARD.
She is a great teacher. Her clarity of a word lesson (stats) semester is very helpful. She has three exams, two group projects which are very important to complete, her homework is being done online which sort of helps you prepare for the exams. Review the notes you take with her before taking the exam. Go to the tutoring center. It Helps!!!
Learned Calc 1 in 11th grade, which was 3 years ago. Forgot how cos x graph looked like. Just reviewed some trigs myself, then aced all the tests. I'm serious. I don't know why people think she's crazy fast. Must be those who barely passed with C in math 7. She is extremely fair. Her tests are a breeze. Take her. Attend classes, do HW, ace tests.
Amazing teacher but tough class. Quick pace but you simply have to attend class and take good notes. 3 tests, 1 final, 2 group projects, in-class assignments. A lot of online homework but it will help you for the tests. In-class assignments after most of the classes so do not miss! Do not buy the book it is expensive and useless!!!
She's very good compared to the alternative professor Andrew Nestler. Be ware that each test has 9-11 problems. They are not hard but not easy either. Do the homework and take notes, you can get an A or B. Lecture is more math than computer science. But I find it quite useful.
22 challenged me. I use to think I wasn't a math person, but it was simply because I did not apply myself. Edinger is a great Professor. She has weekly assignments that are Calculus oriented but trust me, it's doable. Study hard, do the homework, make flashcards and you'll be good. Just do not give up my friends. Make sure to go to tutoring!!!
She explains the concepts very, very well; attending lectures, I feel, is integral to understanding the material and passing the class. HW isn't mandatory, but it's strongly advised, and it helps to reinforce the concepts. Test problems were similar to HW problems. She doesn't go out of her way to help you, but will help if you ask. Fair grader.
You can get lost pretty quick if you don't keep up with the homework or lecture notes. Her tests tend to get harder as the school semester continues. It's a big time commitment, but she is a fair grader. In total there are 3 tests, 2 group assignments, 1 midterm, and a final. Also all the homework assignments are via mymathlab and can be retried.
If you're not ready to work and dedicate every minute you have for this class, then don't bother and look for another professor. Her notes are straight forward. If you don't do hw since day 1, you've already fallen behind. Can be overwhelming if you don't have Alg 2, Trig basics memorized to heart. TEXTBOOK HW IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS TO THIS CLASS.
This is a difficult class unless you are a math person. Even then, you will need to dedicate a good amount of time to this class. Professor Edinger is amazing though! She is very straight-forward and helpful. She seems to want her students to do well. I definitely recommend her!!!
Online statistics is not for everyone. I enjoyed it, but I won't lie, statistics is not easy and learning it on your own isn't for everyone. Prof Edinger is awesome. She was constantly available to answer questions posted on the discussion board. She was available for office hours, happy to answer emails, and really knowledgeable in general.
Pros: Lectures are neat and clear, very receptive to questions during lecture, most exam questions are from the book. Cons: Harsh grader, goes through material too fast, tests make up your ENTIRE grade, commentates the process of doing a problem but won't explain the validity or concept behind it. Proof heavy. Wouldn't be my first choice.
If you are a robot you can get a A. I have a 4.0 gpa but this woman is a tough grader. She takes so many points off for some tiny mistakes. She takes points off because she doesn't like your writing. Other than that do a little mistake or skip one step even though answer is true, it will cost you a letter grade.
He goes through the material extremely fast. Unless you are very good at math and got an A on Math 2 and 7, I wouldn't recommend her. I skipped a semester between math 7 and 8 and could no longer remember all formulas and identities, but she will expect you to know all of them from heart. Tough grader, and you have to teach yourself a lot of it :(
Take the class if you are a math person. The avg for most of the tests was a C. One group project. Weekly hw, discussions, and quizzes that are worth like %7 of total grade. Tests aren't difficult, you just need to understand how to apply the concepts. Very little work for a 4 unit class if you are a math person.
I think she's a great person. I was in her Math 8 class during winter term, so it seems everyone in the class was better than the average. Her tests were not hard. She literally gave the same problems from the textbook, so if you study hard you will nail it. She's very responsive too: If you have any trouble, she will explain to you wholeheartedly.
She is a really great professor. I took her winter class and it is really hard and fast paced but her lecture and notes were really clear and straight to the point. She is really caring and would help you if you're struggling. Her exams aren't hard if you do her homework problems they're practically the same thing.
I've never been good at math but Professor Edinger always explains things clearly. She is not a tough grader, but there is a lot of online homework as well as in class assignments. She's one of my favorite professors and if you struggle with math, she always encourages questions and takes the time to help her students.
She doesn't like to help if you have a question. The final exam is so long and includes detail questions from previous sections. Find someone else to take a math class.
A LOT of homework, but you should get pretty good grades on the tests if you do it. I was intimidated by her in class, but she is extremely helpful in office hours. Definitely not an easy class by any means, but I am planning on taking her again for Math 13.
She is really the epitome of a good teacher. Not sneaky, straight forward with what she wants you to know. The homework is online and good practice, you can even do it late and still get credit. Her lectures are SO clear and all you need to do is take down everything she says and study them for the tests and you're golden.
There is online HW, quizzes, discussion board, due every week (can be done in 1 day). A group project(almost everyone got 100%). 3 Exams(2nd Test is hardest)may drop worst exam for final exam score. She's involved in the discussion board. As far as test difficulty. If you're a person who can remember a question's style then, take this class.
Professor Edinger is amazing I would definitely take her again in the future. She is very clear when lecturing. No study guides but doing the homework and practicing and going to her you will be good. She is a very fair grader. She will answer questions but will ask you what you did first before answering. Learn your trig and basic identities.
Professor Edinger is one of a kind. Her lectures are crystal clear and very organized. She makes it clear on what she expects and doesn't throw you too many curveballs. Tests are based off her notes and homework so make sure to attend all lectured and to do all the homework. I've finished all the math at SMC and I have to say she's my favorite.
Crystal clear lectures, and explains difficult concepts well. She answers emails and helps greatly at office hours. Do ALL the homework - this is key to doing well on tests and quizzes, which are what determine your course grade. She prepared me well for multivariable calc at USC, which was based on the same study habits used here. Great professor!
Professor Edinger is by far one of the best math professors I've taken at Santa Monica community college. She's clear in her lectures, explains in depth and truly cares for her students success. In order to succeed in her class you'll have to take good notes, complete all of the homework, and attend class everyday.
One of the best Math professors at SMC! I'm terrible at Math and she made the subject very clear and easy to understand. She does take of points for minor errors and there was online hw. So be prepared to attend everyday and do all your HW. I had a "D" and bounced back to a "B". Study the HW Sheets and the Study Guides they are very helpful!
She is very sweet person. I love how she tries to physically explain what is going on in the math (Especially with chapter 16). She doesn't curve. The class is based off 3 midterms and a final. She also replaces the lowest exam with the final grade if your final exam grade is better. Overall she is great person and very easy to talk to!!!
Not an easy teacher. Does explain some theorems of calculus but definitely not an easy A. However, it is possible to earn an A in the class, just make sure you understand every homework problem. Most of the time she picks problems similar to the homework, though there is lots of homework. She does not check HW, but DO NOT ASK HER IF SHE CHECKS.
Good teacher, bad grader ! Requires a lot of study, and exams are fairly hard. I spent most of my time on this class, still got a C
PERFECT PROFESSOR
Be ready to spend a minumum of 6 hours a week just on homework, only for it to count 5% of your grade. There are worksheets she has you do in class too but doesn't accept late work, so you're screwed if you miss the class. She takes forever to just get to the point in her lectures and is extemely dry and boring. Harsh grader, no extra credit
Professor Edinger will make you want to major in math. She is honestly the greatest math professor at SMC. A must take for STATS and Pre-Stats. She gives out great study guides for exams. She has great patience and is willing to take the time to help you if you need it.
If you are bad at math, take math 54C with Edinger!! The class is very long (3 hours twice a week) but she goes into detail and makes sure that everyone understands whats going on. She offered A TON of extra credit in this class to ensure that people pass. Took her for Math 50 as well, one of the best teachers I've ever had!
Taken with 54C. Edinger is really good! Plenty of extra credit, office hours, embedded tutor could be available, reviews for an hour before each exam, explains it really well. As long as youre willing to learn you will easily pass it! (I was horrible at math in high school but have a 4.0 in her class)
I hate math, but Edinger is so helpful! She truly cares about students learning the material and is always available to answer questions. Lots of opportunity for extra credit and tutoring to boost your grade. She is super organized and keeps Canvas updated every day so you know your grade. If you have a personal issue, she is accommodating.
This class is not easy, so pay attention at all times! Professor works at a fast paste. Attendance is very important. If you miss a day, then you will be confused and behind. She gives lots of online homework and class work assignments worth only 8%. Exams have the biggest impact on your grade. Go To Tutoring! Do all extra credit when given.
Besides the fact Edinger's class was early, her class was exceptional. The class is very lecture heavy, however what does one expect from a math class...? She made the very difficult material extremely easy to understand, breaking it down into simple steps. Not much homework besides online due each Sunday.
Decent lecturer in person, terrible lecturer online. Prof. Edinger has shown no understanding towards her students in this uncertain climate. Each class feels like she just wants to get it over with. She is adamant on not doing anything to help her students: no extra credit, no extra office hours (scarce to begin with), and much harder exams.
i thought she would be more helpful, but no way helpful same rules same everything basically. doesn't care if you pass. no extra credit. she will always remind you especially in finals " don't email me for a grade you didn't earn", basically she does not want to hear it from anyone! im sure other teachers would be considerate of your grades!!
SMC leaves 8 empty seats for waitlist students, but edinger kicks them all out so she can grade less papers. She acts cruel to students but gives straight A's. only math professor at smc to do so.
If you show up to class, understand her notes, and her homework, you will be set for an A. The homework is graded 10% of the class, which is very helpful and the rest are exams. Exams are like her lecture notes, written in her own language. Basically, learn the material she teaches you and invest at least 2 hours a day, you will get an A.
Awesome teacher. She is definitely genuine and fair, but not a pushover at all so you have to earn every bit of your grade. Practice, do all of your work, study A LOT and you should be okay.
Prof. Edinger is the best! She really takes her time and wants every student to understand Stats. Shes there to help, and as long as you complete the hw, tests and final project, youll pass. Ive always hesitated taking math, but she made it fun and easy to grasp. Take her for Math 50 before 54 if you need to prepare, definitely helped me pass.
I took her 54+54C for the Winter semester. I had not been in school for 6 years and was very anxious about taking a math class (especially online). Professor Edinger was so sweet and really took the time to thoroughly explain everything. She welcomed questions and gave lots of resources. Yes, Stats requires hard work but she made it enjoyable!
Edinger is a horrific teacher. Worst math teacher I have ever taken. She does not care about student outcomes. Makes no effort to help students outside of class. Is objectively bad at explaining concepts. Has a cold demeanor. Comes off as unapproachable. Take any other instructor offering the same section. You'll be much better off
Course was pretty easy to follow. Most of your grade is weighted by exams, but the study guides she provides are pretty reflective of them. The formatting for answers is provided in her notes. Had a heavy course load this semester and ended with a B without much extra effort.
I am not the best at math but I really learned a lot in Prof. Edinger's class. She takes the time to make sure students understand the concepts we learn during class. She even does quick refreshers on basic algebra so that everyone knows how to do basic calculations. Grade is based on 6 exams, one project and homework. Do the work, ask q's, study
Terrible. Her lectures are boring, she breezes through topics and skips steps so you'll have to catch up on your own. Exams are tough. She shows zero compassion/empathy towards the current situation, always seems like she wants to leave. I've had other math professors at SMC that are tough but still caring and great instructors. I'd skip her.
I was never good at math, I actually used to hate it before taking Professor Edinger's class, now I love math. If you struggle with math then I would recommend taking her class, she is very clear on problem solving and is more than willing to help you solve problems that you're stuck on. She is a great professor.
It is a lot of work but I really enjoyed it! I'm not a big fan of math and this class made me like stats! Just do the homework, study hard, participate/ ask questions in the discussions, and don't fall behind! There are 3 exams and the final exam. Also, I took her asynchronous class.
I thought she was an amazing professor. What I like most about her is the lectures are completely planned out from her notebook and she's very thorough and clear. She assigns a lot of homework and the exams are tough, but you should be able to get at least a B if you master all the homework and an A if you do HW + really understand material.
Professor Edinger is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is gifted at breaking down difficult concepts into bite-sized pieces (great if you typically struggle with math). She genuinely wants you to succeed, her tests are fair, she is incredibly organized, and she grades promptly. She is the best teacher for a challenging subject.
Cristal clear lecture. Took this class on winter so it was tough but most of the concepts were easy to understand, she's also very good at explaining things, 2 knowledge quiz per week, with 2 attempts, 2 discussions board, and 1 exam per week, 1 final, homework are graded, and there is a group project. It's math, it's hard but it's doable.
This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken. I don't have another math teacher at SMC to compare too so it could be that the material is hard and not the professor. One comment I will make Is that she WILL NOT change your grade by even a .01%. She makes you earn your grade.
i've always been bad at math but her lectures are so clear and helpful. she reiterates foundational concepts which is super helpful. if you put in the time and effort you WILL succeed in this course. downside- there's only 3 exams so super test heavy, getting 100% on homework will not bring your grade up. edinger is the best math teacher at smc
While Statistics was overall a course that was easy to keep up with, Professor Edinger has very lackluster lectures. It's very monotone and you NEED to watch the lectures to pass. Her exams were overly difficult, not to mention the tutor rarely kept her times for office hours. Her final exam was NOTHING like the study guide. Good luck.
Professor Edinger teaches in a way that is simplified to understand. I've struggled with math for a really long time but found the way she teaches is really helpful. Her exams were not hard but if you study and know what you're doing, you'll be okay! She is always asking for people to ask questions and when she does answer them she makes it easy!
I took linear algebra with Professor Edinger and she was awesome. Her lectures are a must go-to as they are very informative. She assigns a lot of homework problems from the book and they are very helpful cementing the ideas that she went over. The tests were very easy and straight forward. She is also very willing to go over questions during O.H.
Don't take her for linear algebra. Lectures are insanely boring. Study guide and homework and lectures did not prepare me for the exam. The class average for the second exam was a 52% and I dropped her class in the spring.Terrible!
I'm pretty bad at math but Professor Edinger's lectures were very. Each week: 1 knowledge quiz (2 attempts), discussion boards, & HW. There were 3 exams, a group project, & a final. Her exams are fair (worth a great % of the overall grade), & most similar to notes/knowledge quizzes rather than the Exam Reviews. It's hard sometimes but manageable.
I do think communication started out rocky with her. Her video lessons were very detailed and I liked them. Weekly quizzes and homework on website you have to pay for, also monitored tests. Overall, not a bad professor.
I really struggled in this class. I'm not good at math but this was extra hard. The lectures did not apply to the exams neither did the homework. Memorize the calculate functions as it's the only way to get through the exams! Study and make sure you understand the material as you go.
Grade distribution speaks for itself. Only 1-3 A's in her class each semester. The class is graded very strictly and it is impossible to get an A.
Grade is dependent on 3 exams and final, not the homework, projects or discussions. Had multiple breakdowns during this class but tried to push through. Would recommend taking stats in person if possible.
Prof is straight forward. You wont pass without hard work. Lectures comprehensive, tests fair. Answers emails quickly, helpful when answering questions, active in discussion boards. Very clear in lecture. Pay attention, study hard and you will get a good grade.
Professor Edinger's class is challenging, but manageable with hard work. Lectures are clear, and tests are fair. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for exam preparation - highly recommend it along with the textbook and class notes.
You will not pass if you do not put in the hard work and time. I had multiple breakdowns because I have not taken math in years, but I used the math lab, brainfuse, and office hours. She's committed to help you understand the material. There is no deviation from syllabus because you will fall behind, I had no life the entire semester, but I passed.
Lecture heavy, tests are worth 51% of your grade rather than the hw, and discussions helping but no its dependent on exams. I recommend to take inperson because office hours for this class is only mornings.
She puts out fantastic lecture videos for each chapter that helped me learn immensely. I slowly relied less on the textbook and more on those videos throughout the semester. Go through the steps and allow your brain time to sleep on the info before taking weekly quiz-style graded hw, a weekly quiz, and four proctored tests. Would take her again!
Make sure to always study, it was easy-going at first, then the content starts getting a bit heavier, but homeworks, discussions and quizzes are weekly. There are about 3 exams and then a final exam, proctored. And textbook is online or I think it is available to buy. Offers helpful advice. And 1 group project. Would definitely recommend teacher
Prepare yourself to purchase a $150 online textbook. You have three exams (worth 51% of your grade). You do, however, get to opt out of one exam, but the final (21% of your grade) is mandatory, and every exam is proctored. A headache to say the least. This was the class I was most stressed about. Finally glad it's over, don't take her.
