This teacher is very unclear in explaining her assignments. Worst of all she overloads you with work. You will have no time for other classes with the workload Ellyson gives you.
she gives you a huge analytical report to do, doesnt explain assignments very well, you work in groups A LOT according to what major you are. you have to do an interview with a pro in your career field. she'll tell you her class will be the hardest u hav
she is one of the hardest teachers i have had. she grades papers hard, doesn't explain the assignments, and is not friendly AT ALL. i don't think i ever heard her crack a joke or smile in class. if you hate group work don't take her class.
She prepares you very well for the common final. She was always willing to help if you needed it.
She is very condesending and treats her students like 10 year olds and is very self righteous. And she is harder than she needs to be. The material covered is easy, but she complicates it for her own amusement.
The class is not actually that hard. You will have a Huge Analytical Report that goes through the whole course and by the end should come together. At first it will seem overwhelming but it really isnt if you do a little at a time.

She thinks her class is your priority. I had to go to a doctor's appointment during her class once and asked her to leave early and she ****ed at me infront of the entire class. She asked me what was more important, i walked out and dropped the class..
she sucks. it takes one longer to figure out what the assignment is, than it takes to complete it. if you don't understand what is it you are supposed to be doing, dont ask her, she'll get pissed and explain it worse the 2nd time. dropped her after 3 days

Ellyson's class wasn't that hard, if you pay attention and do the work on time, with only a little studying you can pull an A. I cut up alot in class, she kept me after one class and asked me in a polite manner to tone it down a bit other than that I enjoyed the class.
Better choose someone else. Most of the meaning in her instructions and lecture is lost in flowery wording and over-complicated sentences, like she's reading from a book. Everything seems more complicated than it is, assignments are always very unclear. She's very subjective, get on her good side
This woman is hard, but thats life. She cares deeply for her students and refuses to "pass" them through the system without actually teaching them something. The class will seem hellish at first, stick with it. Turn work in on time and talk to her, she isn't as unreasonable as she seems.Humor is key
This professor is hard on you, and does pick on the students that don't take the class seriously. If you study and do your work she is fair. You leave her class prepared and able to pass the common. If your looking for a teacher that will over prepare you, pick her.
Please, for the love of all that is sacred and holy, do not register for this woman's class. Consider this the ultimate warning! She rude, unclear, and requires more work that should ever be allowed for a 3 credit class. Nothing is ever good enough for her.
she is a horrible teacher, you have a HUGE 2500+ word analytical report you have to do which is a HUGE pain. She thinks this is your only class. EXTREMELY stingy about non-office hours, she treats you like a little child. Don't register with her please!
She is very bad at explaining assignments clearly. You often have to work really hard just to find out what the assignment exactly is. She is really specific in what she wants, and demands perfection(which might be a good thing). As long as you treat her with respect, the class shouldnt be too bad.
She is a nasty old lady who used condescending lines to put down every person in my class. I have never gotten below an A in any writing class in my life. I got a C in her class. Funny story, all of my grades were above a C except ONE assignment. She grades on her mood. Don't take this teacher.
This woman is extremely hard!! Same as another person that made a comment, I have received all A's and B's in my English classes since highschool as well as Literature classes. With this woman, I barely got a "C"! DO NOT TAKE HER!
HARD; not in a good way either.Rude to people. You dont understand your assignments and when you ask her, she asks you if you listen in class and wont explain. She puts people down.SHe doesnt do % grades, but says she will evaluate overall performance against how you started out in her class.Bitter.
I wanted to take this class.At first,her high ideals seemed like a cool challenge,and great preparation for the 'real world'.HA! SHe doesn't even grade on your work, but 'overall performance' meaning if you miss 1 class,ask too many questions you are SCREWED ETERNALLYin this class with no redemption
She is unclear about everything and not fair.
She assigned a 5000 word project! After assigning it she goes over it with you. She pointed out several mistakes on mine. After I got the paper back I saw that I was marked off on EVERY ONE of the things she herself told me to change. Then when I pointed this out to her she accused me of cheating.
Do not take this class. Like my whole class dropped it in the middle of the semester. She makes tech communications a nightmare! Try to find another teacher if you have any kind of a life!
Everyone on here is gonna say not to take this class but that is because they are all lazy. This is a good professor
I took Tech comm with her. My first thoughts were "oh my God what have I gotten myself into". However, I'm glad I took her, she makes you learn. You will do a lot of work, but it pays off in the end. She's very professional though and doesn't tolerate high school behavior. Act professional and you'll win her affection. Great teacher though.
Ellyson made this class a living hell...i was 17 and dual enrolled when i took this class and she was the hardest on me for some odd reason...i couldnt ask her a question without being talked down to like i was worthless...DONT TAKE HER
I have had countless teachers over the years but none matched up to Ms. Ellyson. I do not understand how anyone could say that they learned anything from her. If you take her for Technical Communications be prepared to write 11000 words. Well over Gordon rule. She cant explain anything and if you ask questions, she'll humiliate you. AVOID HER

Going to have to agree with everyone else on here..however if you get stuck with her be really prepared to work!! If anything you have to go to her office almost every class. I ended up dropping it because it was way too time consuming. If you have the time you will learn a lot. Useful info, just not displayed well
Tough teacher! In the end all the hard work paid off. I was thinking about dropping the class but Im glad I stuck with it! Be prepared to work hard. She gives quizs only and most of them are take home. Her final is easy and she doesnt fail but you have to do all the work. I will benefit from this class. She prepares you for your career big time!
The class is based on communicating in a clear and understandable way, however she does exactly the opposite. There have been two occasions where she has told the class that she is done teaching a topic, and then asks two stand-out students in the class (I was one of them)to teach the topic since she wouldnt. Umm, where can I pick up my paycheck?

This is my time to blow up on this teacher. She will never help, please, don't ask her for help, she'll turn it around and make you look like a fool in class.She never explains any of her work completely, making you leave confused, and if you ask her for minor help,she'll make you look at your notes. Extremely out there. Dont get on her bad side. Overall I liked this class. Ton of work. She doesn't offer any help and she tells you to look at your notes and ask other students but they don't know what's right either. Could care less about grammar. Focuses on format only and uses APA. She really prepared me for my career and that's what i liked.

Take her if you plan on going to every class and being very attentive. She's not that bad if you try hard. There is a huge project on careers that takes up most of the semester and is a pain but in the end it actually turned out to be helpful and her class really prepared me for college and my career.
Ms. Ellyson is crazy. Her assignments are insane and she expects you to know how to do everything without help. The class isn't impossible, you must go to class and take notes. Getting on her good side helps too.
I have seen this lady in her office hours. Talks as if students are far below her. Very rude and appears to be very hot tempered.

Tough Teacher and tough class. This woman comes out on the first day and tells you she is a tigress... The first day of class there were about 27 students. Only 16 students did not drop her. She is not very clear with her assignments and she wants you to figure most things out for yourself.
She teaches the class great, she explains exactly what she expects! We use class time to work on the assignments and she is there to help us so that we do it right. Attendance is not maniadtory, but going to class is worth it because you learn alot each time!

Great Teacher. She is direct and upfront on what is expected, and treats you like a professional instead of a student. She expects you to follow instructions and assignments exactly has explained, which is what Technical Writing is mostly about. If you are looking or an easy class, this will not be it.
Amazing teacher! Hands down, one of the best I've ever had! She expects hard work and doesn't put up with irrelevance, she is clear as to what she wants and if you expect to do good, you better follow. Though at times it was tough, I learned a lot from her and feel she deserves more accolades than she's given credit for!
This is the meanest teacher at Santa Fe. She's insulting and belittling. She has ice running through her veins. Do not take this teacher. She will make you cry and not even bat and eyelash.

She gives tons of busy work, take home quizes, and will blabber half the class in another language and expect you to turn in an assignment on it with no prior knowledge of what you are doing. she tells you to ask others and they have no clue either. shes mean, viscous, doesnt have any sympathy for her students, and mandatory attendance!
This is the easiest A you could ever make at SFC. Don't listen to the naysayers. There is no reason for you to be this far in your academic career and not know how to format documents, research on the internet, and follow instructions.
A walk in the park. NO, but a class that you learn something in, YES. Attendance is mandatory because the material and templates are covered during class time. She explains exactly what you need to do in order to get a good grade. IF you keep up with the material and read the chapters, you will do very well, but you have to work !!
Best teacher that gets the worst rap. She is an excellent teacher. Her class is not easy and you will struggle, but she acknowledges that fact before you even begin. She does not grade based on an average of all grades. Instead she grades you by your progress and involvement. You will do a career project that will ACTUALLY help you guide your life.
I don't know what everyone is complaining about! She is actually a very good techer. It's not an easy course but I think that she's helpful. There's alot of work that needs to be done but isn't that how it's supposed to be. People just expect to do nothing and get an A. The stuff she teaches actually helps in life. Suprise! <3
Anyone who complains is forgetting that Ms. Ellyson is teaching what we'll need when we transfer. I took her because my roommate said UF was easier because of what she learned from Ms. Ellyson. People need to stop whining and think ahead.
This professor is terrible. Sure she explains the lessons but even if you do everything right she is still not happy. It is impossible to ask her anything as she is always busy and can't make time for anyone. Terrible teacher and waste of time. Plus she constently complains about the textbook.
Ms. Ellyson is a good teacher, she will help you but you need to be willing to put forth the effort. She expects alot from you but you WILL learn something if you stick with it. Many people drop her class, but again if you stick with it your likly to at least pass.
This class is extremely difficult and she explains assignments SUPER fast which makes it even harder. Half of the assignments seem pointless and she is VERY picky and every little thing counts. And theres a HUGE paper due. I did more work in this class than my other 3 class put together. Exam is the only easy thing.

Worst teacher I have ever had, required more work for her class than my Trig and Bio 1 combined. Doesn't like to answer questions either. Plus there is a 6,000 word analytical report due. She tells you how to do an assignment and then before you turn it in, changes a bunch of stuff. I highly recommend taking someone else if you want to have a life
She is a tough professor and her class is not easy; but she does truly care for her students! She would love to see all of her students succeed!
Ellyson isn't necessarily a horrible teacher, but she's definately not good. The few things that I did not like about Ellyson was her inability to answer questions. If you were to ask her something that you were unclear about, she would refer you to your classmates. Her assignments gradually gets harder throughout the semester.
I had Ms. Ellyson a couple of years ago, and although she was tough, she has made it way easy to do all of the writing I need to do in my major. She was always helpful when I asked her to help, but I also went to class.

She's nothing but a heartless "female dog." I did most of my work and passed the class with a B+. She's tactless, careless and above all, rude as all get out! HATE this woman with a passion!

Very hard nosed and strict teacher no exceptions. There are essays due EVERY class and reading almost every class. I wouldnt take this class if your looking for easier grades and a carefree environment. Has very specific policies and grades VERY harshly. Although work can come in handy, kinda.

for all people that are are actually thinking on taking her class DONT DO IT. i took her class last spring and i droped it. she is not nice, doesnt answer your questions at all and DOES change alot of stuff just before turning in your assignments. you will literally will have the worst time of your life with her. Everyone is being pretty harsh on here. She just doesn't students who dont care about the class. The class was very helpful for me in deciding which direction i wanted to go for my major. the whole class is based on going to a university and getting a job in the real world. She is though. The work is not difficult. I did the work and got an A.
This class was a mistake. Ellyson spends more time talking about what is going to be happening then actually explaining whats going on. The whole course is one project that is spoonfed to the class with excessive explanation. She does not have a working knowledge of word or excel. Her grading policy is unclear because she has no concrete system

A great mind! A spark of inspiration. Ellyson is not an easy professor, but she truly cares and will stretch your mind. No nonsense in her classroom, she takes it seriously, which is a good thing.
Had her for two semesters for 1101 and 2210 and got an A in both classes. She is demanding but as long as you show up and show effort and improvement throughout you'll definitely pass.
She is a good teacher. Very Strict, but the information that she has us use is very helpful. The course work can be confusing at sometimes, but if you bring in something, and it is wrong, she will help you with it. She will not answer questions out right, but directs you where to find the answer. If you are a serious student, you will have no prob

She's a very harsh grader, and she isn't very helpful. I feel like she means well, but I really regret taking this class. She REFUSES to give A's. She will literally give you a B++++, and when you ask what that is she responds with "well its a B plus plus plus plus"
Very tough grader. It's almost impossible to get an A on her essays. Granted, your writing will improve because of it, but you wont be happy with your final grade if an A is what you were aiming for. Always attend class and DONT be late. She's an ok teacher... as long as you turn in all the work and are prepared for class. GET ON HER GOOD SIDE
She is an ok teacher. Always go to class, get on her good side. The things she teaches you will use later on. Final is 50% of your grade. Lots of peer edits and make sure you bring your book. Make sure you own a printer, you turn in something every class and you can not email it to her.
Very harsh grader. Get on her good side, and just stick to the structure of an essay, she doesnt care about creativity. As long as you have a thesis and whatnot. I would not recommend her.
Lots of essay work, but you will definitely become a better writer because of it. Just be prepared for class everyday and you will probably be fine. KEEP ALL YOUR NOTES YOU CAN USE THEM ON THE EXAM.
I really took a lot from her class. If you take her, you might have to work a little bit harder than you are accustomed to at Santa Fe, but you will be better off because of it. She is a kind woman and is very willing to help and answer questions. Also, if you work hardz, you really should be able to get an A.
She can be a nice woman if you attend class every day and complete all homework on time. Even though you learn a lot in this class, the pressure put on is too much. What is expected of you to learn in this class from her is far too much for an entry level course. Her directions are quite vague sometimes, so be sure to ask a lot of questions.
One of the most awful professors hands down. Ellyson will refuse to explain assignments, and is incredibly unclear in the first place. Grades you make on your papers honestly do not make much of a difference on your overall grade, it all pretty much boils down to the final exam. She can be condescending,rude, and unhelpful.

Initially, I would have said bad. Now, I've changed my mind. She is EXACTLY like a boss @ work: unclear or brief w/ instructions, prompt with class hours, takes attendance SERIOUSLY. Good stuff: I learned so much about my profession, pleasant if you follow instructions and participate. Overall, this class started off hard, but got easier. Decent!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!! Very unclear, I was confused all the time and I couldn't even learn anything! She is too strict no down time, always her way nothing else. Homework EVERY single day, too much and not enough time to do it. DOES NOT ALLOW MAKE UP WORK OR ANY EXCUSES.
Oh I wish I had read all the ratings prior to this class. I have lost hair, hours of sleep, and probably a passing grade! If you are a masochist, this class is for you. Terrrrriiibbblleee!! She literally would assign impossible assignments. Her 'directions' were really unclear. She has an attendance policy which is very strict. Her class is so confusing and a waste of time. Dont take her! I promise you wont regret it.
Took Miss Gail during College Year, and in retrospective this has been one of the most useful courses I have taken in my professional career. at the time, it look as if it was just one more credit course, but now i can firmly say it was a very useful course.
