This woman made me love economics!! She is the reason that I chose ECON as a major. She should be the head of the department!! Gail Hoyt rocks the casbaw!!!

Gail is an amazing professor. She cares about all her students and will do anything to help you learn the material. Lectures are presented with useful handouts that prepare you for the exams.

I hate Econ and stats but loved this class. HIGHLY recommend if you can get in.

Everyone loves Dr. Gail. She's the reason why I became and Econ major and is just as sweet and fun as she can be. Her class is a must take, whether or not you're an Econ major.

Dr. Hoyt is a very good professor. However, the subject matter is somewhat difficult. There are only 2 tests and the final so you have some pressure to do well. However, she gives 21 VERY easy quizzes (that she usually tells you about in advance) ad only counts 16 of them. Helps your grade a lo

Mrs. Hoyt is a great teacher and tries to make hard subject matter a little easier. She gives you several practice tests for each section which are almost exactly like her real tests. She has gotten me to understand a lot of concepts that i never though i would, and i really recommend her!

She's easy. As long as you go to most classes you'll be fine. If you don't, it's kind of hard to figure out what's going on.

Very good teacher. However, her tests are pretty hard (especially the final) but she curved our first test, and our final grades. She gives very easy quizes that really help your grade. But the tests count for a lot of your grade - there is a lot of preperation needed to get an A in this class.

Hard class, but she really care about students. Plus she's pretty hot for an old lady so it makes class more interesting.

Dr. Hoyt is very helpful and quite humorous. She strives to develop a comfortable atmosphere and wants to learn everyone's which is pretty remarkable. You have to study for the tests, but she gives plenty of practice material that helps a lot. Go to class because she gives quizzes that count for a test grade and its easy to get the full credit.

If you're going to take Econ, take Dr. Hoyt. She is super nice and will help you with whatever you need. Her classes are interesting and she gets students involved in her examples to help them learn.

What a GREAT teacher! Dr. Hoyt SOMEhow made a tough subject palatable enough to learn well enough for an A. It's important to go to class EVERY day and do the reading/assignments as you go. The tests are same given to all ECON 201 students -- Dr. Hoyt, from what I can tell preps her students better than the other teachers. Worthwhile class.

Really great teacher that furthered my interest in Economics.

Easy at first, gets a bit harder. She gives TONS of practice exams - USE THEM!! Short answer, multiple choice, and questions from articles on first two tests, all MC on final. Read the articles, not reading them is why I got a B because I was clueless for the second exam. Study exams several days in advance, it's tough material. Hoyt is nice/funny!

This class required a lot of attention and a lot of reading. Gail is the type of teacher that wants to know the students she teaches and relate to them on a personable level. I was impressed that she went around the class everyday and tried to learn everyone's name. The handbook is the best investment for the class. I love Gail and the class!

She is a wonderful teacher. I know a lot of people have trouble in the class, so maybe I just got it, but she isn't out to screw you over so that is a plus for any teacher! Take advantage of the quiz points, study the old exams, and go to her to talk if you fail the first exam so you can figure out where you went wrong-she'll help. Good luck!

Dr. Hoyt only teaches this class every couple of years, but still knows the subject very well. Tests were fair, HW was fair, and she was very helpful with the projects at the end. I had a lot of fun in this class. Definitely take her if you can.

Not super easy, but I got an A. Just use her practice exams a lot and use the economics lab for extra help if you don't understand the material. She is a nice teacher!

Dr. Hoyt is nothing short of AMAZING. Her class was very intersting and the exams are not bad. Be sure to study her old exams, as 10% of questions are pulled off there, use the LEAP lab, and go to her office. I thought it was very interesting and hope I can take her again. One of UK's best instructors!!

Hoyt was awesome, her tests were exactly what she went over in class and she gave you old tests to study then pulled 10% of the test questions from those exams. So far she has been my favorite teacher.

She is a great teacher. She explain everything clearly and her test are not hard as long as you attend class and study. She make a good study guide before every test that really helps. She puts her nots online, but it helps if you attend the lecture 1st. You can easily get a A in the class if you pay attention and study for the test

very easy! take this teacher. me and my buddies sat in the upper level of memorial hall and joked around most of the class and we all got A's. but you do have to go to class to do the quizzes which are really easy and you have them almost everyday

The material was really difficult, but she was an alright teacher. Quiz grades really help with your overall grade, but you have to attend class to get the points. I recommend going to class every day even though its not mandatory.

Gail Hoyt makes the material in this class very easy to understand. She gives in class quizzes throughout the semester which really helps boost your grade. It's not necessary to buy the textbook for this class but she has a course packet for around $30 which is very helpful. There are old exams in the back of the packet to help you study.

I was worried about this class in the beginning because I have absolutely no background in economics, but Gail Hoyt makes the subject crystal clear. Don't buy the book; the course packet is all you need. I went to class, studied the course packet 2 days before the exam, and I got a 99 in the class. She's the only way to go for economics!

Dr. Hoyt makes Economics as interesting as possible. She tries to make it fun, and she has made a book of notes that make it so much easier. The text book is not necessary. There is a quiz most days so attendance is recommended. It is really easy to get all the quiz points.

By far the best teacher I have had at U.k. She is hilarious and really cares about her students. Class is not mandatory, but the test is mostly based on her lectures. Her lectures are so interesting that want to go to class every day. The material is pretty difficult at first, but the way she teaches make it easier to comprehend.

You definitely have to devote time to studying if you want to do well but i would say this is the only teach you want for eco201. Dr. Hoyt is a remarkable professor who takes ECO 201 to a whole new (and fun) level. It was by her passionate and delightful teaching style that I was convinced to be an Economics major. I also had friends who said that she made it interesting for them even though they didn't like econ. Clicker quizzes in class to measure attendance, no textbook.

The main textbook I didn't touch once and still got an A. The book you buy from Johnny Print you will use and I suggest you look at the reviews at the ends of the chapters it will make the tests MUCH EASIER. She teaches really well in class and really engages the class and seems like she has a lot of fun with it. The quizzes WILL help your grade.

She is a really good teacher. Explains everything very clearly so it's easy to understand. Attendance is not mandatory but she gives quizzes on some days which make up 80 points. She's funny too at times. I got an 89.25 in the class and she rounded up to an A!! She rocks. Didn't use the book at all, just the workbook for $20 from Johnny Print.

Dr. Hoyt makes class so enjoyable! Some of the material can be hard if you've never had an econ class before, but as long as you're willing to ask for help, she will explain anything! I didn't use the textbook for her class but make sure that you have the workbook because it'll save you a lot of time when taking notes and when preparing for exams.

Dr. Hoyt is great! I'm a merchandising major so I was scared to take this class. I didn't buy the text book and you really don't need it. Just buy the workbook and go to class everyday! I got B's on all the exams (with studying!) and got all my quiz/bonus points that I ended up with an A. She is a great teacher for this course!

She is the best! Clicker quizzes almost every lecture, but almost half of them are dropped. No homework. Exams are straight from lecture notes and old exams. She explains everything well and makes the class fun and relate-able. I definitely recommend her!.

This was a very enjoyable class. I took it for a USP/Gen Ed requirement. For those not majoring in economics, Dr. Hoyt simplifies concepts so that they are universally understandable! She is very funny, so I was actually sad when I had to miss class one day. She gives clicker quizzes, so show up! Exams, quizzes, and assignments are very fair!

Awesome professor! She makes a 500 person lecture in Memorial Hall feel small! She gives examples, explains things thoroughly, and enjoys student participation. Definitely made econ make sense to me. Lots of clicker and in-class quizzes, but she drops half of them and has extra credit opportunities. Not too hard as long as you put in the effort.

Overall Dr. Hoyt is a good professor. If you don't take the time to study, you won't do good on her exams. If you moderately study, you'll be fine. She is VERY helpful. She also gives quizzes everyday so going to class is recommended.

Lectures are well-organized, and she's always willing to go back or talk with you one-on-one if you don't get something. It's a big lecture class but she tries to make it as much fun as possible by having class interactions every once in awhile. You should buy the guided notebook because it makes the lectures easier to follow, and you are given practice problems within the notebook as well. Gail explains everything so well and makes ECO fun. she is an AMAZING professor and I recommend her class. I LOVE professor Hoyt! She is hilarious and always makes her lectures fun. One day she decided she was going to teach from the balcony of Kincaid. She explains everything really well. You do have to study for the tests but they aren't overly difficult. I would take professor Hoyt anytime possible. She is accessible outside of class.

I have only been in her class for 2 weeks now, and she already has become my favorite professor at UK so far! Her lectures are so fun and engaging, but also very helpful. Everything she gives you on homework is stuff she covers in class, so pay attention and you'll do great! I would recommend her to any student.

She gives really good lectures and is really accessible outside of class. This is a pretty average class in terms of difficulty, there's homework almost every week, attendance is mandatory, and exams are 70% of your grade. If you go through past exams repeatedly and do well on the homework you'll get an A.

Gail is so sweet and funny and has made my entire lecture hall burst out laughing numerous times. The online homework is very manageable but her tests definitely require a few days of legit studying if you want an A.

Gail Hoyt was an amazing professor to have for ECO201, especially during the COVID-19 situation. She was always willing to lend a helping hand even though she has many students. Attendance is taken in her classes but honestly if you plan on skipping class a ton then it is likely that you will not pass anyways. Her lectures are very entertaining!!

Notetaking packet you have to buy though a little bit expensive is the key to doing well in the class. Allows you to follow along with lecture and makes studying for exams super easy. Lectures were pre-recorded, and note-taking handouts were offered to follow along with them. My section had the option to meet twice a week to review the material covered in the lectures and the daily quiz due before class. I read the corresponding chapters after class, took the quick-quizzes, and chapter quizzes in the book. Do the practice exams!

I had never taken an econ course before so I was nervous, but Dr. Hoyt makes content super digestible for students -- I do think reading the textbook is a good idea bc it helped me review the material. Also, study for the tests!

I had to put so much effort and time into her class that I could barley focus on my other classes that actually involved my major. Although I tend to struggle in math related classes, Professor Hoyt was extremely helpful through her lectures. She provided many examples and made sure she was easily accessible if you were still struggling. This class is very lecture heavy and has many quizzes, but if you put the work in outside of class you will definitely get an A.

My favorite professor ever. She was very engaging and actually made class fun I really recommend taking her. The homework was a little challenging sometimes, but you get multiple attempts. She curves and has bonus points on exams.

Gail Hoyt is awesome. Shes very funny and entertaining while still being thorough in lecture. Homework load is pretty light and she gives resources to study for exams. She is SUPER helpful in office hours if you need further explanation. Hard to imagine a better Econ professor.

Dr. Hoyt is awesome, even though the lectures are long and theres a lot of material, she makes it engaging. ECO201 is not particularly difficult as long as you go to class.

Professor Hoyt is one of the best professors at UK. The 410 class had us going and working directly with non-profits in the community and conducting economic analysis reports for them. Class time was used as group work to write the paper and get help from Hoyt. The midterm was very hard, but that is the only test/quiz. Hoyt wants to give out As!

Showing up to class in person makes the difference, she explains it so well and stops to answer questions and makes time for you to understand the unit. I really enjoyed her class

Wonderful professor! She is great at canvas and posting lecture videos and supplemental content to better understand concepts. I did not have great attendance but if you just study, you will do well.

I loved Gail and her class so much. She wants students to learn the material and put in their best effort, then she helps you get the grade you need. She cares about all of her students and makes class so fun. Would take her every semester if I could.

Not enough words to describe how amazing this woman is. I guarantee I would not have an A in this course if it wasn't for how entertaining her lectures are. She really wants to see her students succeed and is very understanding. In a lecture hall of 450 people she wants to get to know you which is rare for many. Take her, best professor I have had.

Dr. Hoyt is hands down my favorite professor at the university. She makes you want to attend her lectures. They can be extremely fun and engaging regardless of the class size. I highly recommend her for ECO201.

I absolutely loved Dr.Hoyt! Economics isn't necessarily the most exciting topic, but she makes learning it so enjoyable and I am always looking forward to going to her class. She is so funny and deserves the whole world. Make sure you do go to every class because she does do in class quizzes, which she goes over the answers in each class.

Dr. Hoyt is an amazing professor and person. She makes an effort to involve students in lecture for examples to ensure you understand material. Also just for fun. Resources are plentiful and the notes, hw, and practice tests are very relevant to exams. Final exam is heavier on material from end of course, so don't fall off before the semester ends.

LOVE prof Hoyt. If you take the time to study for exams using the practice exams provided you will succeed in her class. Go to lecture so you can receive your attendance credit and can understand the material. She gives lots of extra credit throughout the semester. If you attend the class right before lecture she gives SO MANY exam hints.

The best class I have taken at UK. Keeps lectures so entertaining and fun, while still being very informative. Very accessible outside of class, and always willing to help. Somehow made a massive lecture feel small. Best professor. Quizzes and tests are manageable if you go to class, must go to class for quizzes.

One of the best professors. So engaging and interesting to listen to, very good at explaining things also. She cares about all of her students and wants to get to know all of them. You will have daily quizzes and a lot of homework, but it helps balance your grade. Would 100% recommend her she is awesome!

Dr. Hoyt is honestly the best professor/teacher I have ever had. Her lectures were extremely lively and easily understandable. She provided a lot of real-world examples to further her students' knowledge. She truly cared about her students' success. Her teaching really made me consider changing majors to Economics.

My grade is an A right now before the final. Hoyt is a wonderful person. She really tries to make the class as entertaining as possible. The only problem I have with this class is that its a 500 person lecture so it makes it extremely difficult to stay focused the entire time, but that is not a professor Hoyt problem. You get six unexcused absences

Brilliant, kind, hilarious, helpful, understanding, & approachable. My advice for her class is to study the practice exams & go to class. She offers many resources if you are struggling with the material. She makes class fun & interacts with us more than I expected, considering there were 500 students in the class. I wish I got to know her better.

I loved having Dr. Hoyt as my economics professor. Each class was engaging and interesting and she always found a way to make the lectures relatable and fun. She does a lot of interactive activities in lecture. Daily quizzes (she gives the answers) and homework (lengthly and lowkey hard) are a huge cushion if you don't do well on the exams.

i would highly suggest taking Gail. she actually cares about the students and her lectures are so entertaining. attendanced is not mandatory but you get extra points going everyday. she is easily my favorite professor. also she gives so many practice exams that help exactly what is on the exams

Professor Hoyt was one of the best professors i have ever had at UKY. She is passionate about the topic and her exams are very consistent with her lectures. If you put the work in you will absolutely do well in this course. I cannot recommend her enough!

She is super kind and her class is easy to follow. HW can be annoying sometimes and almost cheat you out of points. But this class should be an easy B/A If you don't pay attention and don't know what to do GO TO LEAP LAB. She will talk about it a bunch but that's how i got my A. Also practice exams are basically the tests.

She has very fun lectures and makes the boring topics fun. Would recommend as she makes an A very attainable as long as you put in the work. Homework is annoying but not worth much. Tests are fairly difficult, but she gives you a lot to help prepare.

She's passionate about what she teaches but the content is a bit difficult, as long as you study the practice exams and go to class for the daily quizzes you should be fine.
