Tests were ridiculously picky. Didn't like it if you diagreed with her
Tests were hard, but she is very helpful
not a good lecturer, unclear, boring, utterly sleep-inducing, so unorganized too
Patt has the funniest stories ever.. ask about the guns in her trunk
No Comments
Excellent her offbeat stories made such a dry topic interesting, the class was really hard but well worth it
No Comments
She's very smart and her stories were interesting, but she can be unfair and can't relate to her students' needs.
Really smart, but very off-beat. Class was boring but that is due to the subject matter.
i liked her a lot. great lecturer, gets very excited about genes. fun. ask her if james watson was cool in college.
EXTREMELY rude. Actually used the word duh when I asked her a feasible question at office hours (which she was then unable to answer). She's bitter about teaching, and it shows.
Extremely condescending, and very unclear in explaining information.
she's the worst teacher and doesn't know what she's talking about. just confuses you more-looks like ET
Boring lecturer with a droning voice, but good anecdotes and examples. Friendly and available to help students, but don't bother going to lecture--she wrote the textbook and reads mostly from it.
She is great. She raised sheep, and asked a sheep whether or not she ate it. Came up with a new poison. Very entertaining.

Extremely rude, offensive, stubborn, condescending, and unclear. Avoid having her for a discussion leader at all costs. I regret the day I ever registered for this class. TESTS WERE DIFFICULT!
Boring, and condescending.
She is totally awesome. Very intelligent woman, and you can tell that she loves to teach. BI 383 requires a lot of studying, but her expectations are clear.
Cynical, tells good stories but personality just rubbed me the wrong way. Fortunately this class is completely passable even if you cram for the exam before so whether prof you get is of no consequence.
Her tests are awful to say the least, no matter how much one studies for them you can never actually improve in class. The class is like a trainwreck when you are in it, and once that test comes it's like hitting a boulder at 150 mph.
Very hard classes but with the right amount of studying one can do well in them. Patt was a great teacher and a very intelligent woman.
Only take a course with this woman if absolutely have to. Her tests will chew you up and spit you out...if you have to take her class for a requirement, remember that she is not as nice as she comes off at first! She probably kicks dogs for fun.
The course itself has a lot of potential to be interesting, but she saps it all out. The way she teaches makes the most amazing functions of the human body seem pretty darn boring.
so hard, guys!
Class was difficult but doable. She was very interesting and receptive to questions during office ours, however during lectures she came off as being cynical and rude, and she should really loose the first day of class "you're all going to fail"
tricky multiple choice questions, picky details on tests, learned a lot
you gotta put in the time--a LOT of time--but in the end it comes out to be doable. She's a really nice lady.
She was terrible. Lectures were incredibly boring compared to the CC 105 lectures. And if you're religious expect to have your views demeaned by Professor Patt in almost every lecture. Put simply I did not like this woman.
A really hard class, but interesting. You have to put in a lot of time if you want to do well-- she has really tricky multiple choice questions, so study hard!
The material is interesting, she sometimes doesn't finish her thoughts,But she did give alot of real examples. Although she was willing to take material off tests beforehand, her tests were still difficult and questions were sometimes unclear.
Professor Patt is the best professor I have ever had!! I went into that class not knowing much, and came out knowing alot!! She was very helpful! You rock professor Patt!! I recommend her courses to everyone!
I took a summer course with her. Her tests were very hard and detailed. Don't take BI 108 with her. She made biology much more difficult than it should be.
This course was amazing. I looked forward to every class. Professor Patt is one of the most brilliant professors i have had here. She included many interesting facts. The tests were difficult and you needed to know alot of information.
Overall, one of the best classes I've taken at BU so far. Lectures were very interesting and worth going to. Tests are tricky, yet certainly fair and doable. Very helpful in answering questions, and provides interesting anecdotes to explain concepts.
Patt is nice in class and as a person, but can sometimes be unintentionally (at least I think) rude. Lectures were somewhat interesting, tests were doable but tricky-she is very sneaky on tests, and students should know any little detail said in class
Her lectures weren't that great. Tests were tricky...she tried every way just to get students to answer them wrong. Although, she did a good job at listening and answering questions during lecture. If you have her, make sure read her exams real careful...

ADVISE: write really fast...every word and then read the book and take notes on that to supplement her notes. Only study book material if she mentioned it and study CONCEPTS and IDEAS...not just facts. AWESOME INFO...even though you guillotine way too many frogs in lab!
whatever class she has taught, has killed me. your pens will get such a work out. beware.
The course itself is interesting. For students to think that Patt is unintentionally rude is very naiive. Patt is a fast lecturer. Try not to have many questions in lecture because she will shoot you down. She is more degradative than helpful. Memorize the book and write down what she says verbatim.
I dont think I have ever written so much in my life. When a teacher recommends reading the text at least 3 times plus studyin her notes for a test u kno ur in for it. This class is very VERY time consuming. the information is interesting... her tests are tricky!
Patt moves very fast in lecture but she knows her stuff. Study her notes and whatever she recommends in the textbook. Very time consuming, especially the lab notebook.
Make study guides using study lecture notes as backbone and supplimenting readings. Also, read the test questions VERY carefully. Don't depend on the multiple choice format cuz she will try to trick you. It's tough, but do-able if you prioritize this class and use think on EVERYTHING!
She is simply stupid. She does not scale a test that the class average was a D. She is rude and arrogant, and simply shoots you down if you ask a question. Tests are hard.

never take her class. Retartedly hard.
rediculous.
DO do well you gotta take so many freakin notes. There is not real way to do well on the tests, just pray and hope she likes you.
horrendous teacher. Class and material taught her way.
nice enough, she has the weirdest life experiences and i think she makes up stories and facts that aren't true. has very unrealistic expectations, and loves to make you look stupid. it's not impossible to do well, just a lot of work.
I dont like Patt. Infact, no one does. Class is impossible. You will feel bad about yourself and so will your GPA. Im not copping out. It a neverending frustrating cylcle of bad grades.
This class is HARD! You really have to study to get an A. In fact, you really have to study to get a B. I'm typically an A student but I'll be psyched to get a B- in this class. The lectures are soooo boring. You will want to harm yourself. Focus more on the notes than the book.
She is impossible to deal with. I went to see her during her office hours at least three times - twice she wasn't there - the third time she handed me a copy of the syllabus and said that she couldn't help me. I'm getting maybe a C+ and it's the first time I've ever gotten lower than a B. She sucks
She even looks like a skeletan. Its hard, frustrating, unfair, and the freshman are over zealous and really into doing well. I despise this course and I did so poorly and tried so hard, that I came to the realization that I simply do not care anymore.
If not a requirement I would suggest NOT taking her class (especially for the sake of your GPA). Exams are purely memorization and extremely difficult. Class is pretty ridiculous, as are those stupid clicker things that she made a big deal about and never even worked.
Man.. if you guys only knew what she was like outside of school, shes a carefree and fun lady.. her experiences are all real.. none of them made up. The real gail patt is fun!!
She's hard and she doesn't care about effort. This class is a lot of material and even if you learn it the tests are really tricky. DO not take it for a grade booster, she makes it really hard to do well!
do yourself a favor. . .and dont take this class unless you HAVE to
Yes, Patt's tests are really hard. But she KNOWS that, and the grades are all scaled anyway. She's an enthusiastic and clear lecturer. Anyone who understands that you have to work hard in introductory bio classes at BU should do fine.
Class in general is like pulling teeth... don't take her unless you absolutely have to. After 2 semesters of her I'm counting the days until I never have to take one of her ridiculous exams again...
oh man.. She is so boring and unorganized! Her lectures are boring! DO NOT TAKE unless you have to!... she is very unclear and nitpicky! KNOW THE DIAGRAMS!! she's in love with stupid diagrams...
She is a very clear lecturer and really knows teh subject. Her stories are crazy and she gets really excited about the material which isnt always that interesting. Exams are multiple choice but kind of tricky. Read, go to class, and do the practice exams because a lot of questions are directly from it. She curves to a 75 mean. Best 3 of 4 tests.
great professor. i decided about three minutes before school started to change my major to bio, and comparative vertebrate anatomy was the only class open. this class definitely reaffirmed my decision. the subject material is so interesting, and patt is a great lecturer (and she tells crazy stories).
Prof. Patt is a great lecturer. If you take really good notes during lecture the tests are easy. She is also very approachable outside of class.
Professor Patt's lectures are unclear. He thoughts are all over the place and she constantly jumps topics. You have to take very good notes. I suggest taking your computer to class so you can keep up. You really have to know every detail for the tests if you want to get above a B in the class. She curves to a 75 which is unfair. Tests are HARD!!
I would rather stick my head in an oven then take another class with her. Worst Professor I have ever had in my life!
Very nice woman, just don't ask her stupid questions which she has already answered many times over, or yes, she will become frustrated. Take good notes, go to class, you'll do fine. Just go to class. You're paying about $100 a lecture, so get your money's worth. Very intelligent and interesting woman.
Patt is an incredible person - her tests can be difficult, but if you read the book, and take notes during class, you should be fine. She is an incredibly fun and interesting person - and incredibly smart! If you're interested and engaged in class, she's lots of fun!
i havent had a test yet where there werent TONS of mistakes. she doesnt explain topics very well and she doesnt prepare you well for exams. i think she haqs good intentions but...
She's not an awful professor. Just talks through important subjects quickly. Sit in front (or near it) she tends to be nicer if you ask a dumb question if she knows you're paying attention. Tests can be tricky but everything is from the notes. Much more interesting in BI211. She really like physiology.
i really liked Patt-shes funny and shes easygoing. lectures are interesting-she doesnt really highlight when something is imprtant for the test or just interesting to her but other than that i really enjoyed the class.
AWFULLLL- worst lecturer i've had in college DONT BUY A CLICKER she cant figure out the software. hard tests
Absolutely horrible. A&P is extremely interesting; however, she has a way to make it miserable. Tests are impossible, always mistakes on her handouts, even worse in person. She shouldn't be allowed to teach this course.
ok so here's HOW TO GET AN A in this class. fist off know that she is mean and cruel. second off write down everything unless she repeated herself, remember the class is curved, therefore if you realize she is a jerk who tries to make people fail, then you will do well. her tests are 90% from notes. horrible teacher purposely embarrasses people
This class was diffcult to follow and she jumped around along. Overheads were not useful. Tests were tricky and she was not helpful at all.
She tests on what she teaches and takes lots of different answers on the short answer tests (very generous grader) and she counts your highest test score for 25%, middle grade 20% and lowest test 15% and and the lab component it easy and fun...no lab reports, just 2 identification tests (shark, cat). easiest bio class i've taken and interesting.
Rather than provide a comprehensive view of human anatomy, Prof. Patt tends to focus on body trivia she finds interesting. Its evident from her tests that she has no training in assessment and the black and white copied diagrams are downright terrible. Do yourself a favor, take it somewhere else.
Be careful on the exams... her questions are confusing and misleading. Even if you know your material very well, it does not guarantee that you'll do well just because of her question types
Professor Patt is one of my favorites! After taking Morphogenesis I decided to take her Comparative anatomy course :) She knows her stuff and is always willing to answer questions/repeat herself if you didn't catch it the first time. Her tests are short answer and diagrams, but she usually lets you know what the test is going to focus on.
I took a summer anatomy course with professor Patt and thought that she was great! She is extremely interested in and enthusiastic about the material, and adds interesting stories and information to lectures. The tests are hard, but totally fair...she just tries to make you think. It is very possible to get an A.
Hahaha. To do well, you need to learn to become a test taker...you gotta think like GRP. My friend didn't prepare for one exam and still got a 90% uncurved because he could reason out her intricately worded questions. Oh, and she mixes the term juxtamedullary nephrons with juxtaglomerular nephrons (which is silly).
Professor Patt is knowledgeable about the material but unfortunately her lectures are extremely disorganized. I spent the entire semester trying to figure out what we were supposed to be learning. She uses mostly handouts. Exams are ridiculously detailed. She's a cool lady though!
I had her for BI106 & 211 and it was the same both times.. you have to be able to decipher what she is really asking. Her tests are just worded oddly. Studying hard and knowing the material back and front does not guarantee an A. A lot of people dislike her bc she comes across as tough, but once you break her shell a little she's a nice lady.
Professor Patt is an excellent teacher. She keeps a difficult subject interesting which in my opinion is more important than giving out As. If you go to class, take notes and read the book (every week) you can do well and you will learn anatomy. The text "Human Anatomy" by Martini also excellent. I don't understand all the negs. Anatomy is hard.
i went in skeptical...but you just have to get to know her. funny with interesting stories. tests are pretty tricky. averages were usually in the B- range.
MIserable. Answers for multiple choice tests resemble the following: A. Choice 1; B. Choice 2; C. Choice 3; D. A and B, but not C; E. A and C, and B 50% of the time; F. A if there is a full moon, B all of the time, and C on Tuesdays. She writes these tests for the sole purpose of tripping you up, and she is very good at it. Worst Professor Ever.
Ouch!
Not a good teacher...at all. I have taken Anatomy before and love the subject- her lectures are very unorganized and her tests are so hard. You can feel like you know all of the information that is on a test and study for weeks but her tests are very hard and you leave feeling like she wants to fail you. No slides used. Difficult class. Awful.
professor patt is so incredibly smart, you should feel lucky to take her class. she is very clear when speaking and goes over all of the concepts thoroughly. her tests are hard, but if you study, you can get A's. she is also very funny and makes lectures enjoyable. she is one of the best professors at BU.
My favorite class at BU so far, also my favorite professor. She is extremely interesting and fun to be around and makes class enjoyable. You need to study for her exams (she drops the lowest one). As long as you study you will be fine.
yeah, horrible, she wants you to fail
Horrible class. You need to know everything in the book, regardless of if she said one sentence about it or not in class. Good luck, you'll want it.
BI 106 is a fast paced and challenging class but she teaches it well. Strongly recommend attending class, reading the txtbk and taking the time to really study well. Exams are pretty difficult, focus on illustrations too (there are many pictures/labeling questions on her exams). She is tough, but she's very knowledgeable and good at what she does.
She is pretty hard- lectures can be soooooo boring but every now and then she says the most hilarious things. Definitely read the book- she doesn't go into much detail in lectures, but the tests are really difficult
She's a funny lady and she knows her stuff. Her smile is deceivingly warm, though. If you try to ask questions in her office, you'll just get cold responses. All she will tell you is to read the book 6 times in order to get a good grade on the next exam. This course is very difficult. If you don't need to take it, I suggest you don't.
Your grades on the test will never reflect your learning. Very frustrating person, may know the material very well but that is all useless unless she can actually teach it. She can't.
this woman does not know how to teach. she often said things that were downright incorrect. she was confusing. to top it off, she would refuse to clear any misunderstandings in class and would not correct problems in her exams.
GAIL PATT IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT BU. she sends rude, unhelpful emails. she insults peoples' questions in class. and assigns about a million pages of reading per exam and asks the most specific questions ever. she is absolutely awful.
Physio. is a pretty basic courseload. A lot of reading. Don't expect to do well on exams. They are specific and will include material that's not in the book or lecture. She's passionate about the human body..just seems more into showing of her knowledge than helping students. 1 test is dropped so I only took 3 exams which is nice.
I don't get the hate. Just go to class, read, and keep up with everything and you should be fine. She's is so smart and eager to share her expertise. She is hilarious, just take her with a grain of salt.
Human Anatomy is a pretty intense course. It is definitely not easy at all. The exams are extremely challenging and although reading the book and going to class helps, it will in no way guarantee success. 5-6 chapters of anatomy reading are assigned at a time. It is very dense. Some questions on the exams are found in one sentence of the text only.
Patt is very knowledgeable about human anatomy, and it very enthusiastic about it. That being said, this class is on the hard side. She teaches a lot for each test, making them dense. There are 4 tests, 2 of which are mandatory. Some of the things she says during lecture are absolutely crazy, but she can be funny at times as well.
Do not take this class unless it is required! It is very dense. She asks very detailed questions on tests. What you learn in the class does not reflect your grade. She allows questions during lecture but contradicts herself constantly. She is knowledgeable but not good at teaching. She rambles and tells stories about her family that are amusing.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. be prepare to be locked inside, studying your eyes out. this class is fast pace and intense so really plan out your studying. she knows her stuff, but cannot teach it. read the textbook back and forth along with what you can make out the notes in class. lab is a huge chunk of your grade; don't mess up anywhere.
Everyone who hates on her here is just lazy and likes to blame other factors for why they didnt do well in the class. I got an A- in Anatomy, and i'll probably get the same in Phys. I didnt go crazy with studying. Just read and study and dont slack off. What do you expect in a class about the human body, which is extremely complex? Work harder!
Awful. That's it. I am not lazy - I attended every class, studied for hours upon hours, and still did poorly in the class. The amount of knowledge you may have is definitely not reflected in your grades. She is awful.
You really get out of this class what you put into it. Patt has a lot of experience in the field and really knows her stuff. Can be very entertaining when telling stories. Lots of work, but if you put in the time you'll get a good grade. Tests are fair- if you study and pay attention in class you'll do well. Liked this class a lot.
She is extremely inconsistent in lecture. The notes you take in class are all over the place and she jumps around chapters in the book. She can't stay on one topic in lecture and gives inconsistent info. Office hours don't help, if you ask a question in class she doesn't answer it & tells you to figure it out on your own...not a good experience.
