Gail is a nice woman and she teaches statistics really clearly. Attendance is taken with i-clicker questions. Online homework can be taken twice (after it shows you answers) so it's easy to get an A. She has a practice test for each exam and if you study them you'll do fine. Tests are multiple choice and you don't need to buy the book.
The powerpoints really help in preparation for the test! She's pretty clear in her lecture so I think it helps to attend all her classes. The method by which she takes attendance is through the iclicker so those are easy points right there and will help your final average
She is pretty easy and her test are really simple but she is rude. Whenever you ask her for help or have a question before class she will snap at you. She gets stressed really easily too. Her class is easy if you pay attention. Oh and beware, on exam days she goes NUTS.
I thought she did a great job teaching this class. Attendance is a must if you want to make a good grade. Homework assignments are fairly easy especially since you can take them 3 times. She gave 3 exams with the possibility of exempting the 4th final exam based on your grades. She could be rude sometimes but I would take her again.
Super easy class, I did not pay attention at all and came hung over every time. She reads straight off of powerpoints. Very good teacher and clear, but I just read the textbook a few nights before the exam and got 2 100s and one 96. Sometimes she teaches things wrong so watch out. also, don't forget to do the hw on time! 2 attempts allowed on hw
Pretty easy class if you pay attention. I've seen her be "rude" to students in class, but honestly, people deserved it for asking such dumb questions. Very fair when it comes to her students.
She is really sweet and wants you to do well.
EASY class. attendance is optional and gives you bonus points on your hw grade which is your only other grade besides tests. you can make over 100 in this class if you do the hw and go to class. hw is super easy and very helpful for learning material. 3 super easy tests. prof is VERY nice and VERY clear. final exam replaces lowest test.
She is a little quirky but she really wants her students to succeed. I've never made an A in math before this class. Print out the notes and bring them to class, pay attention and this is an easy A.
This is Probably the easiest math class you will ever take. She is super easy. if you fail you tried to fail. if you try you'll get an A. No reason to get a C or below
Professor Ward-Besser is amazing! She is the coolest older lady I have ever had as a professor. She's got some good jokes and she really knows the material she teaches and can teach it well. Ms. Ward-Besser is extremely willing to help you but make sure you don't forget to take an online quiz! DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK FOR THIS CLASS!
Professor Ward-Besser is a really great teacher. She's easy to understand and gives good examples that are interesting to her students. The material is easy, attendance is not mandatory, if you go to class print off the notes and take them with you. iClicker extra credit and you can exempt the final. Do not buy the textbook. I really recommend her!
Material is not difficult and attendance is counted as extra credit through iClicker. No need for the book, she has notes available online for guidance. Definitely recommend her for STAT 110.
Perfect for an intro class. Easy and will really engage you to the subject. May seem rude if she has to repeat a question on the syllabus but if you come up to her with a question she'll notice you're taking interest. Cold in emails but in person shes like a cool grandma. Very structured class, VERY easy. If you can't exempt, wow. TAKE this woman.
She literally spoon feeds you an A in this class. All the notes are online, you just print them and fill them in during class and then she has a practice test and answers for each test. I went to class but never paid attention just made notecards from the notes and did the practice test and got an A on every test.
She is a slow teacher, so it's hard to pay attention, but paying attention and taking notes is all you need to do to make a good grade. Attendance is taken by iclicker
She's not out to get you. Do the homework on Canvas, SHOW UP TO CLASS, and use your iClicker and you will pass with flying colors.
Class is mandatory because she gives numerous iclicker questions every class. The questions you get right become extra credit for your final great. Gives you the notes, easy short tests. Do the homework and show up, easy A.
Not much homework, there are 2 big papers though
She is a very easy professor. She gives extra credit through iClicker and all assignments are online. DON'T GET THE TEXTBOOK. I just studied the notes online and reviewed the homework before exams and have an A.
Easy, she practically tells you exactly what is going to be on the test. She also had us print the notes and bring to class which made it easier to study.
Gail is the sassiest lady out there and she knows it. Course content in and of itself is high school level statistics and she posts all lectures to canvas so easy A. do the homework, go to class and get those extra iclickr points and youll get an A. i made a 100 on the first two tests (25 Qs multiple choice). dont buy book. LOVED THIS CLASS!!
Professor Ward Besser is really nice and laid back. Her attendance and grading are fair. She barely references the book even though she tells you to buy it. Put forth no effort and still got exempted from the final. Despite the fact that its a 200 person lecture, she still will connect to you on a personal level and that means a lot
She is the sassiest woman ever but her class is pretty easy. She gives you the powerpoints online and she fills in the blanks during class. Only 3 exams and if you pass with a B you can exempt final. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you go she does icicker points which are helpful to your grade. Don't buy text book.. never opened it
Awesome teacher but the tests get progressively harder as you go. It's possible to exempt the final and technically you don't have to go to class but if you do it'll help your grade with a little extra credit. Be willing to study and do your homework online.
Professor Ward-Besser is the coolest professor I know. Come to class, earn as many iClicker points as possible, and do well on your exams. The final exam grade replaces your lowest exam grade if you do better than the lowest exam grade.
Prof. Ward-Besser is very articulate and easy to follow. If you show up to class and participate (iClicker points are a life-saver), you should pull an easy A. Her tests are ridiculously set up (random seating chart, no bags allowed, really OCD) but fairly easy (25 multiple choice) if you download the notes. Homework is a breeze.
She spoon-feeds you the material like a child, she provides outlines for every lecture and gives tons and tons of examples. The study guides are almost exactly like the test. She will help you at any time. The only thing that can really lower your grade is forgetting to do the online homework assignments, which are very easy and short.
I highly recommend her! Attendance is optional but you get extra credit by showing up. You could be exempt from the final if you had an A. She gives you fill in the blank notes to follow along with for lecture. iClicker is absolutely necessary, textbook is not.
Great professor, easy class. There are only 2 tests and 2 papers. She gives homework assignments throughout the course but they are very straight forward. She is very easy to understand. You can tell that she knows her stuff. If you go to class and pay attention, you will get an A.
Pretty good teacher and will help you. She's super sassy but knows how to teach a class and follows a pretty strict schedule. Show up to class because you get extra credit points when you do!
Professor Ward-Besser is the best!! She makes statistics interesting and is extremely helpful. Exams aren't hard if you study. I would definitely recommend her!
You don't need the book she posts all notes online. Do the homework it's not hard doesn't take long. Go to class and get extra credit for attending and answering the iclicker questions even if it's wrong. Tests are straight from the notes study and show up you'll be fine.
She gives tons of iClicker points which are very helpful for your grade. You get several attempts for all her homework and her lectures are crystal clear. Just pay attention and put in some effort to study for exams and you will do fine. I think she's sweet!
Tells you all year you'll get extra credit from clicker questions, then at the end tells you its only for people with a reef subscription. Easy class, when the clicker questions are hard and the majority of the class gets it wrong, she just moves on without explaining the material better. Bottom line, would not take her again!
She is very clear and overall a very good teacher. But the not the nicest to talk to about things or general questions all the time. Especially if you are asking a question or clarification about something she has talked about
So easy it will make you cry, class is very boring as a result.
She definitely utilizes ALL class time. Lectures can get pretty boring but I sat in the very front & it was a lot easier to focus. She is very sassy & not afraid of hurting your feelings, especially if you ask a question she already answered. Tests aren't too hard, just study. Shes very nice & will help you if you ask. Easy class, I recommend her!
Good professor. She's very clear and explains things. Stat110 was extremely easy and her tests were completely from the notes. She's nice but can get an attitude especially over email. Good class to just keep your head down and do the work. If you participate in iclicker questions in class you get extra points on homework
She is very mono-toned and you have to take a lot of notes, but this class was not hard. Printing off the guided notes was very helpful for taking notes in class and made studying easier too. It's not a very fun class but if you have to take it for your core classes I recommend her. You also need an Clicker and don't buy the text book.
Her class is very easy if you just show up and take notes. She gives tons of examples and practice questions for the tests. Also, you accumulate a lot of extra credit points for doing the i-clicker questions in class. It's clear that she knows the material well and will clarify things if you ask questions. I would definitely recommend her.
Good professor. Enjoys what she does. Can come off as kind of rude but that depends on class participation. If you are interactive it makes the class easier. I didnt do as well as I wanted but I didnt apply myself and still got a c+
iClicker questions every class; tests were easy if you paid attention in class.
Her personality comes off kind of rude but she is very straight forward. Her class itself isn't bad. Her homework is assigned once a week and its online and you get two attempts (impossible to not get an A on hw) and you have to study a little for tests but overall they are not very hard. Also iclickers are used every class & optional final.
Easy Homework assignments. Tests are not difficult if you review homework. Textbook not used at all. If you put forth a little effort you're guaranteed an A. Willing to help at office hours. Dedicated professor that knows what she's teaching.
Very, very easy class. Honestly, if you show up and somehow don't get an A, you probably shouldn't be a college student. It's almost too easy sometimes, like when she spends minutes going over how to find mean, median mode, etc. Good class.
I liked her. Gives iClicker points toward HW grade. Tests are straight forward and easy if you do the practice tests online. Pay attention in class and you will do fine.
TAKE HER! She appears intimidating. HOWEVER, Tests are just like the homework. Before test day, just study the homework and her review powerpoint! I got super drunk one night while studying for an exam, and made a 96 on a test. No textbook required. I bought a $10 6 month reef code, and use my cell phone for the iClicker.
She does come across as rude and seems to talk down to students. However, the class is very easy. As long as you show up, kind of pay attention, and do the homework you will be fine. Extra credit is given for answering iClicker questions. Thats how she also takes attendance. Overall, easy class but her attitude is terrible.
Overall, pretty easy math class. There are 3 tests and they are all pretty standard and if you study somewhat hard, you should get a high C or B. She does 5-10 clicker questions every class, and those points will add to your homework grade. But beware; you can't exceed 100% on homework, which is weekly. Not an awful class.
Definitely the best professor for Stat 110. Homework is weekly and attendance is mandatory (checked by iClickers) but you will be well prepared to make an A on all 3 tests. She is crazy about academic dishonesty though, test day procedures are extensive, so get there like 20 minutes early on those days.
Great professor and super easy class. The homework is super easy and she gives extra credit points through the iclicker. Her exams are the easiest college exams I've had.
She used to be a statistician before she retired and became a professor, so is really educated in real life application. She is very straight forward and can seem rude sometimes but she really is a nice woman. Her homework is super easy, and she makes it very explicit what is going to be on exams, which is really nice. I would take her again.
The class was pretty easy, but became exceptionally more difficult towards the last months or so. Her lectures are extremely dry, which involve her reading word for word from her powerpoint. Also for some reason she almost never includes example problems in any of her powerpoints making it very hard to do the hw/tests. I needed the textbook badly.
She is such a sweet lady. She has office hours and is more than happy to help students when they come to office hours. Going to class isn't an option you have to answer iclicker questions. The tests are difficult unless you are good at stats which I am not.
I LOVE this teacher! Professor Ward Besser is the only teacher I had this semester where I feel like she actually cares about me and my grade. The class is a little difficult, but she is SO willing to help it make everything so much easier. I definitely recommend taking her and getting to know her, she's the best!
Mrs. Ward-Besser is a really solid stat teacher. She is very straight forward and very clear what her expectations are of you. She explicitly states what will be on the tests and you have ample time to do homework, which you should get 100% on. Attendance is mandatory, she uses i Clicker. I would take her again, she is smart and a good teacher.
I took AP Stat prior and if you find yourself in the same boat it's a semester long review session. Explains material well, online homework with ample time to complete it. I would recommend you thoroughly do the online homework, you have unlimited attempts on questions & it is an easy 100%. Helps prepare for tests as well.
She definitely knows Statistics really well but does not know how to teach very well. She is very condescending if a student does not understand/asks a question and is not accessible outside of class.
You will learn more from the homework assignments than her lectures. She is not willing to help students; when they ask a question, she'll reply harshly. Easy course, even without taking STAT prior, but not my favorite teacher. Homework assignments are weekly and her tests are doable if you study often. In my opinion, teaching isn't her strong suit
Attendance is mandatory and is from your daily iclicker questions that are graded and scored. Her lectures are terrible and DO NOT help at all. Does not have any in class problems to work out together as a class, she quickly goes through a power point that already has the problem worked out. Also, does not have time or care for any questions
I did not take any stat classes in High School and was fine. There are no problems that she works through with you in lecture but homework is 30% of your grade and if you complete it and understand it you will be fine. She is nice enough but is impatient with questions. She provides practice problems for every test as well which is helpful.
Ward-Besser is really smart, I just don't think shes a great teacher. She teaches you how to do everything by hand, instead of doing it on a calculator (Which is more realistic).
Her TA was the only helpful part of her class. She just reads off slides and when you ask questions she is very rude and will often not answer then. She also does not any emails. If you want to pass do all of the homework and go to tutoring because she will teach you nothing. You should go to class but only for attendance.
Might seem like she's talking down to students but gives clear and concrete lectures, uses i-Clicker questions on her tests a lot, homework is all online and straightforward. Easy A if you listen to her, do the homework and study a little.
This lady is a good teacher, but she seems to be constantly cranky. You will learn the material if you go to class; tests aren't too tricky, and homework is pretty infrequent and manageable. Attendance taken with iClicker.
Took stat in high school- everything is the same. Reads off directly off slides so class is boring but mandatory because of iClicker questions. Gives a cheat sheet for every exam with all the formulas as well as practice exam. Class is boring but you can easily get an A
She is too smart to teach this class. Reads directly off the slides and assumes you know what she's talking about and are keeping up. The homework is hard and she expects for you to know how to work Excel. Test are difficult and she definitely can have an attitude. Had to teach myself everything before the exams. Ridiculously hard. Never again.
She obviously knows what she's talking about but assumes that everyone else does too. She simply reads off of slides and never really teaches how to do anything. She won't teach you how to use a calculator for this class and insists we use Excel for the calculations. All powerpoints used are posted, but she requires attendance via iClicker.
She's kind of super rude about the way she teaches. Assumes everyone knows as much as her and scoffs at you if you don't. I can't stand to listen to her because she has an attitude about everything and all she ever does is read directly off the slide. She does make notes for you though, but will test you on things not on the notes. Good luck
She is extremely smart and knows what she's talking about, but she's really intimidating. She has an attitude when you ask her a question because she assumes everyone should know the material. Not too much homework and the tests are easy.
she's rude, only reads off her slides and never goes into further explanation if you're confused. if you miss class you're done for, even once you just miss too many points. and it is such a hard class to sit through.
Her attitude wasn't what bothered me. I didn't take stat in high school and so I struggled because she went so fast. I honestly don't think I learned anything in the class. However, the way she calculates your final grade it is impossible to fail. I would't recommend if you want to understand statistics.
I was scared going into this class because there was so many negative reviews BUT I loved Prof. Besser! She was a great teacher and theres so many grades in the class that its impossible to fail. She says you'll need the textbook but I never opened it. I wouldn't recommend skipping this class though because you get iclicker points in every lecture
Ward-Besser is definitely one of my favorite professors so far! She gives you the notes and all you have to do is print them out and she goes over them in class. She helps us with our grade like giving us extra points with clicker and her online quizzes are not hard either! I highly recommend taking her class!
Do not take for the simple fact that she doesn't allow graphing calculators. Most other professors allow it and it makes the world of difference in a basic stat class.
loved her! she gives you all of the notes and her tests are fair. her lectures just go through the notes and give you exact directions on how to solve the problems.
HW once a week, 3 tests. Do all the assignments and go to class, and you have an A
Not only is she a sweet kinda lady but she cares about this subject and her students. She goes over material again and again and offers lots of office hours with her TA as well. You'd have to try not to get an A in this course! Loved her!
She is unfair. She included information on tests that was not discusses in class, on power points, or on her reviews. She advised not to use the textbook which was the only way I was able to understand the material. She is intimidating and rude to students in the middle of class. She mis-calculated grades. Would not recommend to anyone.
She makes it clear what you have to do at the beginning. I barely put in effort and got an A. If you do the homework, come to class and answer the iclicker questions, and do the test reviews she puts online, you should pass the class no problem. She will call you out if youre being disrespectful though, so be mindful of that.
Besser-Ward is an older lady who knows what she wants and expects you to give it 100%. She has an attitude, but if you are quiet, pay attention (or atleast act like it), she will not have a problem with you. REEF is used for attendance, and if the app is having problems or your phone dies, she will mark you absent.
Ward-Besser is clearly smart and knows what she's doing. Attendance is taken via I-Clicker questions which count as extra credit toward hw points. She goes over material relatively fast; it's SUPER helpful to print out the notes she provides for the slides. Exams are somewhat hard, but the practice exams she gives help out a lot.
Professor Ward-Besser is a kind lady who is probably over-qualified to be teaching this basic of a class. She cracks a lot of jokes, every once in a while at a student's expense, but that's only if you show up late! Her tests aren't bad if you do the practice problems she sends out, and she is EXTREMELY lenient on grades at the end of the semester
You have to work for your grade. Ward-Besser is incredibly smart and goes very quickly through the material. Lectures might not be the most interesting, but she'll try her best not to bore you. Big personality, will tease you if you're late to class. I-clicker attendance. Pretty lenient with curving final grades.
If nothing else, this woman is VERY explicit in what material you need to know for the exams. While this class is mainly a freshman class, she makes it very easy to follow no matter what skill level you have. I would go as far as to say her expectations are clearer than any other professor I have had. 10/10 would recommend if you struggle in math.
she's very clear of what she expects. i took stat 110 at cofc and bombed it completely. i have an A right now because of ward-besser. i missed two days in a row once and still was able to catch up. it's not a hard class. do the homework. half the answers are on quizlet if youre lazy. go to class. do the study guide. you'll get at least a B avg.
You have a lot of the homework and it gets confusing when she changes the dates around and sometimes makes homework due the morning before an exam. Does not teach well just reads off of the slides and is not much help through email. Go to class and be prepared to teach yourself most of the material. Never again.
Professor Ward has helped me so much this semester to succeed in this class. She is a very organized teacher and all of her study guides REALLY help with the test. You know what to expect every week as far as homework which is online and can be done in your own time. The material on the test is exactly from lecture easy A if you just apply yourself
Overall she is a great choice for STAT 110. I got an A on almost all her tests simply from just paying minimal attention during lectures. She really knows the material but the lectures are SUPER boring. However, with stats there isn't much you can do about that one so Ward-Besser is a solid choice!
Gail is a great gal!! She is super sarcastic and partially snarky but is a gem. She is way too qualified for this job. tests are super easy and she gives you every material you need to get an A on everything. I recommend not taking this class as an 8:30 because it is super boring. easy to fill the ARP requirement
Gail Ward-Besser is a smart professor with a sincere love for statistics. The way she expresses herself and carries a class creates a somewhat hostile environment for asking questions. Homework is given once every week/other week, and there are three exams with an optional final. Paying attention in class is a must if you want to understand it.
Professor Ward-Besser is great. Her class isn't easy, but she is really willing to help you understand the material and she definitely offers intangible points if you laugh at her jokes and work hard in the class.
Ive personally known Ward-Besser for numerous years, and you can tell that she has a genuine passion for the subject. Lectures are a bit boring, but thats expected with statistics. She also tends to make a lot of jokes which really helps to liven the mood during an 8:30 class. Attendance is taken via i-Clicker questions.
HONORS SECTION- She is a fantastic professor, the honors section is difficult but worth it. She posts empty notes on the website to print out and those are so much better than taking your own notes. The honors project is difficult but overall, if you respect her then she will respect you
I love Professor Ward-Besser! She taught in a way that made sense, and I passed the class with an A. She also knows what she is talking about because of her previous experience. Make sure you show up because she will yell at the class if no one shows up. She moved sort of fast, but she posts the PowerPoints so you can go back and take the notes.
the SWEETEST lady. She wants you to understand statistics and succeed in her class. Homework is online on Pearson which wasn't too bad. If you do better on final than any test in class, she replaces it with the final grade. Group project in honors section is not hard (three parts). LOVE HER!
Lectures were very long lasted the whole class. Took notes on every slide but never used them on HW and weren't very helpful on exams. Honestly, the hw on cengage is what helped me learn in the class not the teacher. Not the worst but not the best.
This is not an easy class by any means. If you were like me and didn't take Stats in high school then be prepared to be challenged here. However, Dr. Ward-Besser is a lovely professor because of how much she cares. I remember visiting her in her office because I was having a hard time on the tests and she really lead me to success. Life-changing
Prof. Ward-Besser is SO nice! She really wants you to do well in her class, and she's happy to talk after class to help clarify anything. Homework is on Pearson; it can be annoying, but it's not too bad. Grade is based on three exams, Honors project (broken into three parts), and the homework. Take her for STAT 206!
TAKE WARD-BESSER! She is phenomenal for STAT 206 and is incredibly knowledgeable about the content. As long as you do the Pearson work you should be fine. Go to her office hours, especially for the honors project.
The nicest professor, super caring and considerate of students. However, you have to pay attention, also if you take her in the morning good luck trying to make it to her office hours. If you want to pass the class it might be a good idea to do some self teaching.
Statistics is not easy, but Ms.Besser is an excellent teacher who tries to set you up for success. Her lectures and note outlines are very organized. The homework and practice problems she provides are helpful when trying to study. Participating is the only way to learn in this class.
Absolutely LOVED her! She is so kind and truly wants her students to understand the concepts. She is a very fair grader and gives lots of partial credit. She is accessible at office hours and explains concepts well during lectures. Would highly recommend taking.
Great professor and a great class. All of the homeworks and quizzes were on blackboard and allowed multiple attempts. She grades fairly on tests and hands them back so you can review them. Overall she made the class super easy and understandable. Only downside was she would randomly take attendance, but I dont think it went towards our final grade.
Although somehow people gave this teacher a good rating, I promise you DO NOT TAKE HER. She was mean and sooooo boring. The lectures will have you fall asleep and she doesn't give u enough time to right down notes. TOP 3 worst teacher of all time. Highly recommend not listeing to these comments cause they're so wrong.
WONDERFUL professor! The class can be pretty challenging, but she tried to make it easier by providing very helpful guided notes, recorded lectures, and guidance if you were struggling. I was never afraid to reach out to her because she was so understanding, highly recommend!
Dr. Ward-Besser is a caring professor who genuinely wants you to succeed. The class is challenging, but she provides helpful resources like study notes and practice problems. unstuckstudy was a great supplement for exam prep.
