The class is not that bad; however, attendance is a must, and she is not fair, she marked me down 20% for handing in an assignment she considered to be wrong even though I handed it in on time; however another young lady did the wrong assignment in class, and she was given the opportunity to redo her assignment with no penalty.
If she likes you, your good.
She made the class fun, exams were easy, dont know where she gets her participation from, but overall easy class

Professor Zemmol is nothing to write home about. She use to work at the double J before it closed. This class was very easy. Everything about her teaching style was just... ok.
LOVED her! Great sense of humor and made the class fun! Can't wait to have her for 343!
Gail is a GREAT teacher. She has a passion for what she teaches and makes learning very fun. She does not play favorites, I think she just genuinely likes everyone.
Great professor, goes out of her way to learn more about her students, even in the one week long class.
I don't think Gail plays favorites too much with grading but in the classroom, you can tell who her favorites are and it makes everyone else feel like an outcast. She knows what she is talking about and is very funny. Her exams are a little difficult but nothing horrible.
I've had Gail for a few classes and I would recommend her to anyone! She is very knowledgeable and very helpful. She makes the classes fun and interesting by bringing in real life examples and does a good job of getting the class involved in the subjects studied. She's wonderful!
Gail is great! She is a fun and spunky instructor. I love how she teaches about more than just the class requirements. She goes deeper.
Class is easy enough but sometimes she's not quite as helpful when planning the event. Also, lots of outside work
She is pretty funny. Tells things as they are. Is helpful when you ask her for help or advice about interviews or resumes.
Gail is very upbeat and funny. She is a little disorganized with sending things out, schedules and grading but she fixes it in the end. Not a lot of help with the event but it was great experience. The event was a lot or work but it was fun! She has a lot of knowledge and experience with event planning. I would recommend her!
Class was always enjoyable and professor is fun to listen to. There was more outside of the class work for the event than I thought there was going to be; quite busy some times. Overall decent class

She is a really funny laid back teacher. She is a fair grader and gives the perfect amount of homework that is appropriate for the class. I was NOT interested in attending this class at all, but I ended up learning the most in it.
Gail is really funny and I loved her class, but she definitely plays favorites. If you take her, get on her good side! The only bad thing about taking her is that she's extremely unorganized.
Gail is really funny and I really like her as a person!! Class assignments were unclear because she doesn't seem to like to help students and makes them look really stupid for asking questions. She as well can be unorganized and is a tough grader. On the positive side, she knows events well and planning one was a great learning experience!!
She didn't hold up her end of the deal when it came to assignments; for example, said she'd get info to us on a Thursday so we could complete an assignment by Monday, but didn't get info to us until Sunday night after numerous email attempts to get info from her. Whenever I asked a question via email, she made me feel stupid for asking.
She knows a lot about events and teaches the class well, but can sometimes be unclear about assignments. She is really funny and class was usually enjoyable.
I've had Gail 3 times so far. I like her as a teacher, and she recognizes almost all her students outside of class and always says hi - great person. Not the best prof - very unclear, picks obvious favorites (not complaining - she likes me), and a little arrogant at times. Get on her good side and you'll do great!
Gail was super funny and nice! She knows a lot about the Hospitality industry and always answered questions! The class was super easy, it is a credit no credit class.
I had her for HTM 190 which is a 6-9 for half a semester. The class is pretty easy. She at times can be confusing in my opinion but overall she's really funny and I enjoyed going to her class.
I never wanted to miss her class because not only were you missing lectures, but you would miss her amazing stories! The attendance policy didn't bother me because she made class engaging every day. As for easy? It's events. If you think it's going to be handed to you, pick a new career. Sorry, not sorry.
Love her as a person, really don't like the way she teachers though. My grade is reflected off of doing poorly on her vague tests, even though all we did in the class was plan for our event. Great person, just not very likable as a professor, which frustrated me to no end
She never helped us with the event we had to put on, not even suggestions of dos and donts. she gave us the wrong place setting to study for and when we mentioned to her that she did, her words were "oh you found out?" like she wanted us to fail that part of the test. she's funny and nice but i wouldn't take her again.
Gail is a nice person but as a teacher, she is tough. Not only does she always hold you to the last second of class, she is not very helpful or clear on her assignments. Yes, this class taught us how to plan a major event BUT we are still students and are learning and she basically tossed us in to sink or swim by ourselves. Didn't get much help.
Turning all assignments in on time and showing up to all classes is mandatory in order to pass class.
She expects you to plan a major event in the semesters time and says your're in charge and doesn't want anything to do with in, until randomly when she wants to take charge. Doesn't explain or talk about anything that's on the tests so expect to fail those. Gets very mean and sassy close to the event and belittles you in front of the whole class.
Gail is a great professor! She was very helpful and clear in her grading. Skip class and you won't pass? That's only because the class is 6 weeks long. She made the class fun and interactive.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN! Gives such unclear directions. Says she wants one thing and then changes her mind after the fact. Is unnecessarily rude to students. If you ask a question she makes you feel stupid and expects you to know the answer already. She's just the worst professor I've ever had. I almost switched my major because of her.
If you get behind in this class because of her lack of clarity on her deadlines then GOOD LUCK on getting caught up. She does not feel bad if you are not doing well in her class and she plays favorites majorly.
Gail is a nice person but she is SO UNCLEAR about her assignments and you do not even realize how unclear until she grades it. Then when you ask her about the grade and what was wrong about it she says she explained everything which is far from truth. The nature of this class, creating an event with 30 other people, is horrible! Avoid this class!

I thought the class was interesting and wasn't excessively hard, but the grading is difficult and very unclear. Especially on the last (grade heavy) project, where you can't see an example and she doesn't specify what she wants even though she grades from a rubric. The tests are also specific and hard to study for and the review didn't really help.
Gail does not grade that hard. You just need to listen, use common sense, and be a nice student) to get good grades on the projects and the class in all. I think some people need to chill. Compare her to accounting and gen ed profs. Gail has lectures that don't make you fall asleep, projects that don't make you want to drop out, and a personality.
Gail is a such a nice, caring person, but is very unclear about what she expects from you for assignments and marks you down for something she didn't even tell you she wanted you to do. The class itself is not incredibly difficult, it is just hard to get a good grade because you never know what she is looking for.
Gail is great! I was worried when I first took her bc I heard people either loved her or didn't. She is a tough grader but there's not too much work other than 6 memos, creating a website (easy), & midterm & final. At times shes very vague in what she expects so ASK LOTS of questions. She really knows her stuff & wants the best for her students.
I've had Gail for two classes. She is extremely vague on assignments, tests can be crazy specific, and her grading can be tough. Her teaching style seems to be in line with other HTM professors but she does make students jump through more hoops i.e. mandatory attendance at the career fair. There are so many great HTM professors, pick someone else!
Gail is such an awesome person. Her stories are always entertaining and she encourages discussion in class about current hospitality topics and trends
Two words... UNCLEAR GRADING. Very vague in what she wants and no grading rubrics. Super unorganized. Overall this class is just common sense so her tests aren't hard. It's an extremely pointless class. I learned absolutely nothing because of the simplicity of the subject. I feel robbed from GV.
Gail is a great person; she has so much experience to share and really makes sure her students learn the material. You plan an event which is amazing for getting hands on experience. That being said, Gail is a great person to know outside of class, as a professor, not so much. Her grading is tough and shes VERY vague about what she wants for work.
Took because I needed a 1 credit class & was dreading it, but I ended up loving the class. I learned a lot that I never would have learned otherwise. Only had 4 assignments but the criteria were very clear. Funny & very nice, even though we only met 6 times she made an effort to get to know her students. Almost made me consider an HTM minor!
Gail is very nice and funny! She does her best to make class material interesting. You are required to plan an event with the entire class, which is great for experience! Follow her directions carefully, because she is a tough grader and does not clarify requirements well. ASK QUESTIONS! Nice professor, but not the most organized.
Gail is an awesome professor! She really does cares for her students. But because this was a HR class, her test were very hard so studying is a must. There is a group presentation but as long if everyone does their work, it's pretty straightforward. She did take attendance every day, but ask questions and she will be gladly to answer them.
This lady grades harder than I've ever been graded before in my college career. She also is very rude and loves calling students out in front of others. Her exams test over nothing we've learned in class nor read in our text book. I wish that she would be terminated from her position because honestly the way she grades is so unfair.
She is so vague and never is clear on what needs to be included in papers or assignments, then will give assignments back without any explanation of what you did wrong or why you got marked down. She gives no detail of what she's looking for in an assignment/project and then makes you feel like an idiot when you do it wrong. This class is not only for my major, but for my emphasis and she ruined it for me. Her comments can sometimes be quite rude. Good person I guess, but not a good professor. Never taking her classes again.

Extremely unclear directions! She does NOT tell you what she wants so you need to guess what she wants and ask her a ton of questions. She does expect you to read the book and will randomly call and people to talk about the reading.
Gail is a great person, but a very tough professor. The overall experience of planning an event for the class was unique and fun, however, the expectations were not clear throughout the semester and she grades assignments very harshly. Ask lots of questions. Great learning experience for people who want to be event planners in the real world!!
By far the worst professor I have ever had at Grand Valley. She is extremely disorganized and does not update due dates for assignments. If you miss the class she assigns homework, you are screwed. Her instructions are all over the place and very unclear, and her grading is very harsh for the level of the class and don't expect a response via email
This class is a little harder but it was worth taking it to learn the skills that she was trying to teach us. The textbook was used. Attendance was mandatory (2 excused) but I didn't mind going to this class. Zemmol is an amazing hospitality prof! I loved class with her.

Gail gives zero guidance during any assignment. She is a sweetheart but her class lectures could use some work. The class is pointless and boring to go to but you cannot skip. Overall an easy class
Very strict for no reason only gives you two absences excused or not they still count before she reduces your grade, if you can take with a different prof i recommend.
Gail is by far the worst professor I have ever had, she makes me want to switch majors. She is so rude and acts like a know it all and that shes never wrong. She talks down on students and makes them feel belittled and gets mad when someone asks a question about something. She gives a TERRIBLE representation of the HTM program. Very unprofessional.
Gail is super knowledgable. She grades pretty fairly, but I wish she would give more feedback. She has high expectations for her students and the outcome of the event you'll plan, and she can be unclear with her directions. She seems strict but is actually friendly when you get to know her, and she does care about her students.
Class is based around planning an event. Her grading criteria is always super unclear and she makes you feel dumb if you ask simple questions or are confused. Be ready to participate because she wants everyone to talk. She is really funny and nice but tends to get off topic. Midterm and final made no sense and had no basis off the class. Overall :)
Professor Zemmol is a real gem! She's easy to talk to and keeps her lectures interesting. You would really have to try hard to fail the class because the content is easy to understand.
Her class isnt too difficult & is pretty easy to understand. However, she definitely has an attitude and can be rude at times. Made event planning not very enjoyable.

Very unclear with what she requires on assignments which makes it really confusing. She is very rude and definitely ruined my idea of event planning. Do not get her as a professor shes awful.

She is a nice woman but very disorganized and a tough grader. There is a lot of busy work and unnecessary information given just to fill the class time. It is never clear as to what shes looking for when grading or for tests.
Gail is a nice person but sometimes can be tough to deal with at times. This class is graded by only a few assignments and two exams. She was a tough grader and made it difficult to get a good grade in the class even though I knew what I was doing. She made Event Planning a lot harder than it should be.

Gail is a professor that you will either love or hate. It depends on if YOU really get to know her and are actually interested in the courses she teaches. If you really do know her and have taken her for other classes, you will succeed in this one. I HIGHLY recommend taking 323 (Electric Forest class) with her in the spring before any others!
One of the coolest people out there. She is very passionate about what she does, and with her experience and knowledge, she is the perfect fit to teach this class. If there was one thing I didn't love, it would be that she is really difficult to reach outside of class. She rarely responds to emails even if you talk to her about it in class.
Prof. Zemmol was wonderful for HTM175. She has a great personality and gets to know the students pretty well. Class was never stressful and the assignments were rather simple. Good balance of work, and most assignments are rather interesting. She cares about students and that they're successful.
She is hilarious, often times make sure that students aren't bored in the class, and often lets students know exactly what to do in order to get a good grade on all assignments. The homework assignments were literally cooking videos and a few google slides documents. I love Gail's teaching style, and I am glad I have her again for 240!

This class wouldn't have been hard if the expectations for assignments/tests were clear. When I tried to have a conversation, ask questions about things she was not helpful, yelled at me at times and belittled my efforts. Every student complained about her before class and agreed that she is disorganized and does not know how to teach. Do not take.
Honestly, this class was a waste of my time. Although the event we put on was interesting, I will never take a class with this prof again. She's unorganized, rude, and picks favorites. Also, her grading is never clear, and she rarely has a rubric for almost all her assignments and REFUSES to read her emails. Save your money, Save your time!

Gail does not respond to her emails nor does she regularly update the gradebook. Her curriculum is pretty disorganized and it is a shame because I was told that this class would be fun and engaging but it has just proven to be exhausting and boring.
She's not really understanding but the class is easy. Not worth going all the way downtown if u live on Allendale campus tho
Loved her as a person, but hated her teaching style. Don't take as a gen ed, you have to spend your own money to buy groceries for COOKING VIDEOS. Especially if you live in dorms that don't have good kitchen access, it's difficult, Also, grading was rather slow. However, the class is easy if you just do the work, but it's a lot.
Probably one of the hardest easy classes I have ever taken. She never responds to emails, is rude, and makes you pay for food for cooking videos. If you do not need to take this class to graduate I'd avoid it at all cost. Not worth going downtown for the class if you live in Allendale. She is not reasonable at all.
Gail is so disorganized, doesn't respond to emails, and yet is not understanding of anyone else, and expects us to take this class seriously when she doesn't take this class seriously. I liked all my professors at GV except for Gail, as she is overall rude and has a bad teaching style that is not worth traveling all the way downtown for.
I was in a group project and was not able to make it to class as I was having tire issues, I even got ahold of her before class to tell her that I was unable to make it and how could I make up my points, she didn't respond and then said in class two days later that I should've zoomed my project members while in class, well why didn't you reply then
Even though I had no way of getting to class because of car issues, she was so unreasonable she even dared to say "We all make choices" and mark me down for points. What is that supposed to mean, I didn't choose to have a flat tire that day. Then my group member had car issues and turned in an assignment days late, but that was okay though.
