This teacher is really cool. He offers a lot of extra credit and lets you resubmit your work until you get full credit on all your assignments.I hear that the other teacher that teaches this course if really hard so stick with this teacher.
Great instructor. This guy is sharp as a tack but completely willing to explain it over and over and over again to those who aren't understanding. He doesn't make it a cakewalk, but he's always there for his students.
He is very knowledgeable in his the subject, and you can tell that he really loves it. The material is tough, but he works with you to get a good grade offering extra credit. I recommend him if you need to take physics.
Easy...very helpful. Open book, open note tests. He gives out the essay questions a week in advanced and if you write out the answers & see him, he'll make corrections/suggestions for you.
I loved this class. The material and tests aren't very easy, but it's all open book, open note. Plus plenty of extra credit is offered. Also, take home labs are assigned, and if you didn't recieve a 10, you can turn it back in until you do.
He teaches everything on power point, and he uses great examples. The book he uses in the class is horribly written. He allows you to do your homework whenever as long as you turn it in before the final, tests are difficult. You have to study a lot.
take this guy. hes very easy with lots of extra credit
I personally think this class was difficult. If you are not a physics freak then you will struggle. Make sure you buddy up with partners to make the class more easy. Yes, you may use notes on tests, but that sometimes doesn't even help if you don't have your information gathered.
Probably the best physics professor anywhere. Material is difficult and homework is tedious but he is very helpful.
probably the best physics teacher at this school, because he know how to teach and his test are devided up so you could do better no matter what.
Great Teacher, Smart and enjoys teaching, Homework is on website and if you need more time to finish ask him and he'll give it to you. I would recommend taking his class.
excellent command of subject matter. THE GUY KNOWS PHYSICS. the homework he assigned was tedious, but helpful. Is glad to answer questions and help you learn the subject matter. Just pay attention in class and on the homework.
MAYBE THE BEST PHYSICS 151 TEACHER ON CAMPUS....
Took his class based on his good rating. However, I got very disapointed - much of what he lectures is watered down material explained poorly. He makes it easy to pass by having communal exams!
BEST TEACHER BECAUSE ENGLISH IS HIS FIRST LANGUAGE
GIVES ONLINE HOMEWORK WHICH IS STUPID. STUDENTS END UP LEARNING MORE FROM THE ONLINE PROGRAM THAN IN CLASS. I ONLY GO TO CLASS FOR TEST OR IN CLASS ASSIGNMENTS.
Online homework is dumb, you don't learn anything. Go to class just to get confused because he talks a million words a minute and faces the board. He talks fast, confuses the hell out of everything and never really answers questions. Tests are easy, you have 2 questions, you answer them twice a piece. Once by yourself, once in a group and the two scores are averaged. If you have someone smart in a group you're guranteed a 'C' on the tests if you get 50% of the material.
nice and funny guy. very very helpful. best teacher i've ever had. but physics is still a pretty tricky subject, so its not totally easy. just do the online homework and you'll be fine. go to office hours for help. i got an A but i studied a lot. i'm usually a B student. hope this helps.
Very good teacher. Explains cleary what he wants on the test. If confuse, ask questions. He explains things very throughly. Overall, just do the online homework and do average on the test and you'll pass.
Not that great at teaching, but at least you can understand him. Tests are hard, but it’s physics. Gives extra credit in online problem sets; do it and you’ll pass the course with a decent grade. If you must take physics at CSULB, take it with him.
EXCELLENT PROF. KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. CLEAR AND FAIR. USE MASTERING PHY, VERY USEFUL. 3 EXAMS 1 FINAL. INCLASS PROBLEM AND LAB. THATS BASICALLY IT. WORK HARD AND ASK QUESTIONS... AND YOU'LL DO GREAT. GOT AN A.
Great teacher. He teaches at a fast pace. Lots of extra credit on the online homework. Final is hard. I came into the class with no background in physics and now I'am confident for physics 152. I got a high B in his class but I think I would've gotten an A if I had studied for his 3rd midterm instead of standing in line for the Playstation 3. lol
By far, the best physics professor at CSULB. Most of the stuff went over my head, but he's extremely helpful and will stay with you after class so that you understand the material better. Do all the work and really know your calculus for this class. He mixes problems so that they even contain material from the previous semester! Don't slack!
It's been said before but I'll say it again: best physics prof in the department in terms of pedagogical skill. His lectures are crystal clear and he actually wants to help you learn! Tests are a little tricky but no big deal. Online homework is a huge portion of your grade and really helps. Oh, english is his first language too. Bonus!
Incrediable Professor! Very clear lectures, online homework is a great resource, forces student participation by using the "iclicker" device, and is very helpful. I failed this course at LBCC (DON'T TAKE TIL!!!), but Dr. Pickett help me understand. It all made sense, and I had a lot of fun. I got an A!!! A must-take if you need physics.
The best physics lecturer you can pick. He doesn't have an accent, and his lectures are very understandable. He is always available to help, and is very knowledgeable. The homework is VERY TIMETAKING, and VERY DIFFICULT. Prepare to spend hours on the computer doing it. The homework is easily the most difficult part of the class, by miles.
If you need to take Phys 151 or 152, I strongly recommend taking this professor. Exams are consisted of two parts: Individual and group. If you can get a 100 on the group test then you should be fine passing his course. The real work for his class is the mastering physics online homework that can take up about 20 hours of your week (seriously).
My favorite teacher ever. He's young, which makes it real cool because he's lay back. Just do your homework , read the book and show up to class. Easy A if you just try. FYI Test super easy, homework super hard thou.
Mastering Physics hw (not Wiley Plus) due every other Saturday that may take a lot of time. He goes over few hw problems in class before he begins lecturing. Must go to class for iClicker points. Questions on the exams are quite easy as long as you get the concept. Just follow his "I-SEE" rule to solve any physics problem. It helps a lot :).
Very articulate and presents material very well. Does not teach from the book, although if you pay attention in lecture and do the homework, you will do fine. His tests are 1 question tests do or die, although you don't even need the right answer to pass it. Highly recommended for physics.
Really easy class especially for a physics class. If you need to take this class take it with Pickett
Definitely recommend Dr. Pickett if you have to take 151. The tests are composed of two parts....one by yourself and one using anybody's help in the class. Pretty much guarantees that your grade will be one level higher. Do the labs and the lab reports and you are on your way to an A or B. Dr. Pickett is helpful and available to explain concept
Picket is the man.... He teaches perfect, very helpful during office hours and his test are easy if you study or even pay attention in class.... Even though he posts notes online take time to write them in class cus it helps tremendously .. Trust me! Doesn't use the text book sondont bother even buying...otherwise he is the best instructor j have taken yet ...
Easy. Simple as that. Do the homework, do well in the lab, come to class, and study before the tests. I didn't bother buying a book and got 100% on both tests. Now if you don't understand physics, pay attention heavily and go to his office hours. He's very intelligent and WILL help you learn if you are willing to put forth the effort. TAKE HIM!
If you have never contemplated suicide after a final exam and want to, take this class! However, other than that this will be the easiest physics class you will ever take.
This is a hard class but this is the best possible teacher. Study.
Very intelligent professor. This class is not easy, but he tries to make it manageable. Sometimes his lectures are too fast, but he still is very helpful and approachable. I definitely would take him again, but my advise to others would be do not expect the final to do anything but lower your grade--it's exceptionally hard.
This guy is honestly the nicest guy in the world. Half the test is group. You can get a 50% on the individual part and a 100% on the group and youll get an A in the class as long as you have a decent lab and homework score. Webassign is annoying but wait till the social homework is done, its literally an answer key to the webassign. Best phys prof.
Great Professor, Teaches well, listens to everybody. Class changes per semester as they are experimenting on effective teaching methods. Half of the final and midterm is group. He tries hard not to have anybody fail. Suggest for anybody
Pickett is a great professor, very understanding, very helpful. You must go to class for I clicker points but in the end if you missed one or a few classes he will give you a made-up assignment. If you do all your homework and have a decent grade in lab, it will be an easy A class. The tests are hard but if you do all your work you will be fine.
Dr. Pickett is a fantastic physics professor. The mechanics explored in his class can be very confusing but he can explain the material with exceptional clarity during his office hours. The class is based on daily iClicker questions, weekly Webassign homework, weekly social media style online homework, and two exams. He is a lenient grader.
I running on three semester with Dr. P in a row now. I had him for Phys 151, 390 and will have him for 310 in the Fall. He is a really awesome person and wants his students to succeed as long as they put forth the effort. His lectures can get confusing if you don't keep up so make sure you stay on track and build a good foundation of the concepts.
This course is fun and interesting thanks to Dr. Pickett but, make no mistake, the problem sets are very difficult to get through. However, Dr. Pickett's teaching philosophy is conducive to learning difficult material like classical mechanics. He is a very generous grader and gives you many opportunities to do well in his class. Just do the work.
He is the a very good physics professor. I enjoyed his way of thinking and approaches to a physics. He makes the class simple by dealing only with variables so you don't do really dumb arithmetic errors. His way of thinking is something i take advantage of for future classes.
best physics professor at csulb. ive had him for physics 151, 310, 390, and 350. extremely friendly, he's always more than happy to go over anything you didnt understand in class during his office hours.
Fantastic professor; very helpful and clear in his instruction. He really helps you understand the material. Easy to get an A if you put in the effort to learn and do the work. Do the weekly Social Homework, F2F, and WebAssign and you're golden. Textbook wasn't really used. Also, attend class for easy iClicker points.
Oh dear how I hate physics. But take this professor if you want to get it over with & get an easy A. Never opened my textbook & managed to get a B. Only reason because I didn't go to class a couple of times. GO TO CLASS IF YOU WANT AN A! You never know when he'll give a F2F. Go to class, get the clicker points, do social homework/webassign & bam A.
I fell this class is an easy B as long as you do the homework, I completely failed both final and midterm and got a B
I would definitely recommend taking him. He's extremely friendly and a very good professor. But don't miss class because there's a lot points that you could miss out on (Face 2 Face & iClicker)
I loved Proff Pickett! I ended up getting a B because of my exams, but otherwise.. if you are on track and do your work regularly and make sure everything is clear from the beginning of the semester you can easily end up with an A :)
Dr. Pickett has to be the best Physics professor in the department. He is a lenient grader, and is willing to help you in his office hours with anything pertaining your major, physics, or the class itself. He's helping me set up my roadmap for a double major in Physics and Engineering. Show up & participate in class! You'll get a plethora of points
If you want points, show up to class! The exams are pretty easy and he curves it immensely. I hear you can fail both exams, but pass the class with a B if you do all the HW and get iclicker points. I recommend you get into his class, there is no other physics professor as awesome as him!
Only the midterm and final a lot of group work funny guy very clear and open to help. When you get your group get to know them and become their friends makes life a lot easier. I would recommend this professor to anyone. Great class.
Professor Pickett is BY FAR the best physics teacher for this class. I have heard many horror stories about other Physics 151 teachers, so when taking this course, make sure to take him! His class is MWF 10-10:50, but it is completely worth it! He not only presents the concepts simply, but his approach to physics makes it actually fun & memorable.
He is probably the best lecturer in the entire Physics department. Very detailed lectures, and he is always willing to answer a question from the students. The Social Homework is annoying, but required. iClicker is needed. You may need to actually crack open the textbook once in a while. Overall, take him above all other physics staff.
GREAT professor. Very passionate about his career and the subject. Very knowledgeable. Gives group and individual exams. Online group hw is a pain, but easy. Sit with your group the entire semester, and show up for clicker points.
Pickett is the most helpful professor during office hours. The problem with him is that he knows physics really well but has a hard time lecturing it at an understandable level. During lecture, he uses too much symbols and unknown variables instead of real numbers; this basically confuses a lot of people.
Great professor. DO NOT take notes in the class; he posts all his notes online for you. It's more worthwhile to listen and learn from his lectures and refer to notes later. The course material is tough, but your grade is based almost entirely off of homework (deadline for all homework packets are at the end of the semester).
He adds VALUE to the department, he is always there for the student's interest willing to work one on one till you get the point.
NO numbers in lecture or test at all, all symbols. Very confusing in class. Assign webassign hw 2-3 weeks before he lecture those material. Tests are not hard though. Must go to every class to receive activity points.
He's a nice guy and a very helpful professor; however I felt that his handwriting and diagrams were very sloppy when he lectures which made it harder for me to understand the material. Not a bad guy, but not the best teacher in my opinion. I felt the textbook was clearer and easier to understand than him.
Dr. Pickett only gives 2 exams: one midterm and one final. The exams are split into two parts: group and individual. As long as you study and do the exams the correct way, you should be fine.
I love school and phys BECAUSE I had Dr. Pickett as a professor. It's a big lecture class that's supposed to be boring and all lecture, but he is KNOWN for team!work!! But he makes it really great and you somehow get to know a lot of people who love physics and are inspired to work hard bc his love for science is unbelievably inspiring to everyone.
Dr Pickett is an awesome, quirky professor. If you're having difficulty with the material, an office hour or two should clear it up. He puts a lot of effort into making sure you understand what you're working on.. he even stayed late after class several times to walk through some hw probs w/ me. If you want to learn it, he will make sure you get it
Quantum Mechanics is a very spooky subject and a field in Physics that is very difficulty to comprehend. Pickett's lectures won't do a justice all the time, but he himself knows that and compensates with a very lenient grading system. I recommend taking both Math 364B and Math 380 beforehand or at the same time.
Pickett is the only instructor for 350, and rightfully so! He runs 350 in very much the same way as 310. QM can be a difficult subject to learn, but his lectures, group activities, and HW policy will ensure that you can learn without your grade suffering. If you are confused about anything, go to his office hours and he will clear it up for you.
Easy and super fun class. Weekly article readings (supposed to post short paragraph on socialhwk site, but wasn't working our semester). 2 easy article reflections. Go to 151 labs for 6 weeks to help with problem at beginning of class. Tutor in SAS center. Visit a high school twice. HIGHLY recommended elective.
I dont like phys, but I love Pickett!!!! His class is not difficult at all. As long as you do your webassign, Koondis, you should be fine. He cares about "team work" and understanding how to solve a problem WITHOUT numbers. If you get him as your phys professor, you are very LUCKY!!!!!!!
Pickett cares deeply about your education and will go above and beyond to help you learn physics. Really a great guy. His teaching style wasn't my favorite tbh, you had to read on your own to actually learn stuff. Class was mostly used for solidifying content you were supposed to read from the textbook. Office hours were very helpful.
Ty Based Pickett 10/10 guaranteed would not pass physics with an A, if I did not take him. Lectures and notes are confusing so read the textbook, Do the Koondis, comment on Koondis, do the webassign, do the labs, and take the before and after physics quizzes and you will pass even if you fail the exams. The group exams are very tricky.
Not my learning style, but Pickett was alright. Easy to talk to and available/helpful during office hours. Group work is the bulk of this class, but the work is light. Easy A, but I did not learn much.
Pickett is the greatest professor I've ever had. His class is ridiculously easy, yeah I said that about a physics class ! Pickett is clear about what he grades on. Homework and group activities. He offers group tests that are really just for you, they don't count for much in the class. Seriously take him, he's one of the few tolerable physics profs
He places you in groups right when class starts to set you up for Koondis, an online problem solving program. There is one midterm and final, and there are group and individual portions for his tests. He allows you to collaborate with classmates during the group tests. Make sure you do WebAssign and Lab reports and you should pass
Probably the easiest, yet most qualified physics professor. I bombed both mid term and final and still got an A. Homework is the only hard thing, but all the answers are posted on koondis so everyone gets an A on the homework. Only thing that could hurt your grade is the team exams, but you are allowed to talk to other teams, so do that. Take him!
Pickett is an outstanding professor, he only gives 2 midterms and half of each midterm you work in groups and can collaborate with class mates and the second half is individual. This makes it very accessible to pass. His lectures are great and easy to grasp. He is an awesome individual that gives all the help you may need. I really recommend!
Pickett is an awesome professor. His lectures are amazing, but make sure to pay attention to him. He gives out group works every week, 2 midterms, and webassign. This is a hard class to fail, unless you never do any work at all. I almost failed my final but still pass anyways.
Galen is easy. I obtained an A by simply doing the HW, attending all classes, and barely passing his two exams. This class is heavy on group work from day one. The hardest part about 151 was the labs because they took a lot of time. I would take him if you want an easy A but if you're an engineer you'd probably want somebody else..
Well, this class was a bit hard for me because I have not taken a physics class in a long time before taking this class. Well, the lectures were symbolic and was very helpful in a way, yet web assign and labs were very time consuming. Exams were in groups and in solo. The midterm was not as bad, but the final was very hard!
Very caring and nice man. Easy A, but didn't learn much. He is willing to be there to help you through anything you're confused about, so there's that. I feel like his class didn't prepare me well for future classes.
Dr. Pickett is by far the greatest physics professor I have ever met. His students have huge amounts of respect for him and I would do anything to take all of my classes from him. He's a brilliant man and a shining asset to CSULB. I hope to one day be as good a physicist as him.
Someone please give this man a nobel prize. He deserves every ounce of praise he gets. He is the best professor I've ever had, by far. He is really passionate about physics but he understand that it is hard for some people. In his class, you only have to try, and he will pass you. DO NOT be afraid to talk to him about your grade. He will help you!!
Pickett is an amazing professor! Even during these trying times he has adjusted to the pandemic better than any professor I have ever had. Homework isn't static and he lets you do question redos which is so helpful for my learning. Taking him again and if you have the opportunity to you should too!
I do not have a background in physics, so it was difficult for me to understand and apply concepts. Just work hard and follow directions for the weekly group discussions, webassign, and exams and he'll give you credit. He knows a lot about physics which was too much for me who doesn't know a lot
Professor Picket is an amazing professor. Class is mainly group work the team exam is very easy the average was around 98%. For the team exam you can talk to other teams for help. You can fail the individual exams and still pass. BTW DO NOT TAKE COLLIN FORD for your lab he takes forever to grade I mean he grades when the class is already over.
Professor Pickett is the GOAT. His class is literally structured for you to pass, there is literally no reason for you not to pass his class. It would have to take a lot of effort to not pass. As long as you do the Webassigns and Discussion posts, you'll pass. Exams consisted of a team (which you can collab with others) & individual structure.
Played angry birds during lecture to explain a physics concept 5/5 would take again.
A great physics professor. Records lectures. Attendance is graded via iclicker responses. Not a hard class to pass even if you fail the exams (as long as you are on top of homework.) Homework consists of WebAssign and weekly group questions. Also truly felt like he enjoys teaching physics which makes the lectures enjoyable at times. Overall 5/5.
Hands down, he is the best professor. I took him because of the reviews and he was the best. You will have to buy an Iclicker to get points. He cares about you passing the class and actually help. He offers extra credit. Don't be afraid to ask for help, I emailed him about WebAssign HW at 1 am and he extended my hw. take his class if you can!
I MADE AN ACCOUNT FOR THIS. Literally, a national treasure. He has everyone put into groups to make the homework and team exams easier. Tests are divided into two parts, team and individual, on team exams you're allowed to talk with the class. I failed the first individual miserably but ended with an A thanks to labs and hw.
Don't get me wrong Professor Pickett is a great professor but just my style of lecturer. His lectures can be confusing if you don't read the textbook and his notes are a little disorganized. He lectures are very theoretic so if you won't be able to rely on just the math to understand
Class has online discussions and web assigns for homework. He has group exams that are harder versions of the individual exam. Lectures were relatively easy to follow along, but sometimes he goes too fast, so don't be afraid to ask questions. He has iClicker questions to check for attendance and for understanding.
It is very easy to get lost in Pickett's lectures, however, he wants everyone to pass and he is very passionate in what he is teaching. If you reach out to him and at least understand main points in his class, you'll do just fine.
He definitely knows what he's talking about but his writing isn't the best. It was hard for me to understand it. Taught myself mostly outside of class. Only 2 tests and they don't weigh that much. If you do good on the discussions and homework questions, and go to class you can probably get an A. You do need an iclicker.
The lectures were pretty hard to follow at times, but other than that Dr. Pickett is a great professor. He assigns groups at the beginning to do weekly discussion posts and gives homework that directly involves the current lecture topic. His grading criteria are super clear, and his class is set up so that if you do the homework, you pass easily.
A very amazing professor! A literal genius! If you like physics you'd love his class, and if you don't you'll start to like it. He's so smart and inspirational. His lectures are pretty simple and even accessible online. He assigns groups at the beginning of the year so you can work on hw together. Totally take his class if you can.
If you actually want to learn the material take someone else very easy. Makes the course doable.
2 exams, 1 midterm and final, each test contains group disscusion and individual question with only 2 question. He does not follow the book and sometime might get off track but he's a good man. He's really good explaining the concepts but not the mathemetical side.
Very easy class. I completely bombed the first midterm with a 50% but got an 85% on the final. The discussions basically do the homework for you and as long as you do your work you should get an A. He also raised grades at the end heavily for people. I know some people had like 85ish and would end with an A. Take him for 151 if you can.
Professor Pickett is a very kind professor. He tries to set up the class to ensure that you pass. The homework can be a bit tough, but if you look at the discussions, they shouldn't be too bad. There are also some points to get by showing up to class. The tests were hard, but if you do all the homework and labs, you should be able to pass.
Dr. Picketts's class was definietly doable, his method of exams consisted of a group project and an indivudal test, both graded 50/50 for a total of one grade, which helped a lot, his lectures could sometimes be monotone especially bcs his notes are already done so he just talks about them. Besides that hes a very nice person with clear grading.
very kind prof, however his lectures are difficult to understand but you can definitely pass with an easy A/B if you just do the work he assigns. there are two exams (the midterm and the final) which both consist of a group exam and an individual. Attendance is mandatory due to iclickers but overall would take again!
Professor Pickett is a very well versed professor in classical mechanics, many of his reviews talk about his lower level classes but he made one of the most stressful topics, Hamiltonian mechanics something capable for anyone to understand. He grades more on discussions and homework which are both collaborative. 10/10 would take again.
Clicker for in-class participation. Assigned groups for discussions on webassign. Webassign challenging but answers in discussion after each team solves their problem. Exams split into individual and team: individual challenging but can get 80% just through attempting and not knowing how to find the actual answer; for group hope ur group is good
TAKE HIM! Professor Pickett was amazing. This course was very easy to understand, and I never had to stress. It consisted of weekly group discussions and WebAssign this is a class that with effort an A is definitely possible. We only had one midterm and one final plus the same in a group discussion though they were the same.
best physics professor our of all of them. As long as you do your work you will pass, put in a little effort and you will get an A. Weekly group projects and webassign homework. Iclicker attendance. Final is worth 30% of the grade but grading is easy. He throws curveballs all the time to go into a new topic of physics.
Overall, this is a great professor to have for physics. You can truly tell he is passionate about physics and teaching as a whole. He puts an emphasis on homework and group work over tests and quizzes. The only test he had was the final which was split up into parts with some parts being group work.
Prof Pickett is the person you want for mechanics. Homework solutions are shared through discussions through the entire class. 2 part final exam, group and individual. I say follow along and write notes in his class and do well in the lab class and you will succeed.
Dr. Pickett was amazing. Group discussions are based on webassign questions so you'll know the homework solutions. Lectures were great and he's very passionate about what he does. Attendance is mandatory due to iclicker. Exams consists of a group discussion and an individual test that weren't hard but if you do the work, you can definitely pass.
I went into the course being told he is the GOAT of the physics department, and came out knowing why he's the GOAT of the physics department.
Professor Pickett, is one of the most caring professors, he will spend the whole lecture answering questions if that's what it'll come down to. 2 group exams and 1 individual final. Attendance only mandatory due to clicker points. Very flexible and will sometimes even give you free points. You would have to try in order to fail his class.
Great professor! Most of the grade comes from weekly group assignments and WebAssign. The midterm is online and group-based, while the final is part group and part individual. Highly recommend for 151. Stay on top of the work, and you'll pass easily.
He's a pretty good professor. He's very caring and very willing to help you. He answers emails pretty fast, which is something not many professors do. As long as you get a good group that you can rely on for group activities and homework, this class will be very easy. If not, class may be stressful, but let professor know so he can help you.
I may have been lost the entire semester, but the class discussions for the homework helped at least know the major equations and concepts. Just do all your homework and do your best in the lab. Midterm and part of final is a group discussion, but able to collaborate with others.
He's one of the best professors I've met. His seminar teaching style is engaging for proactive students, offering a fresh perspective on problems. Key points are delivered clearly and concisely, even in short sessions, making his lectures extremely effective for learning.
Difficult material; (most people I talked to were confused throughout) but he is very lenient with grading so do the work and ur fine. 90% group work. A lot of homework. Lab reports can be overwhelming. tbh I didn't like the class that much cuz physics is confusing but glad I had Pickett he is very helpful and clear with what he wants from you.
Galen is an excellent physics professor that I've ever had. I took his class during the winter 2025, and it is asynchronous. He was nice and helpful, guiding his students to get an A.
This class is an easy B but, he's not a good teacher to learn physics from. He doesn't teach the concepts he's suppose to teach but expects you to know them. It got so bad that many students on multiple occasions said they rather learn from organic chemistry than him. Many students also believe that the textbook he provides isn't all too helpful.
Galen Pickett is a knowledgeable and a passionate professor. His lectures are very theoretically heavy. If you aren't fast in physics, you will get left behind in his lectures. I unfortunately can't catch up with his speed. He score thing easily and will almost guarantee you an A if you do all the tasks he ask you to.
HE IS THE BEST PROF FOR PHYSICS
Most of the class is graded on group homework, exams, and labs. You can definitely do fine. Lectures are fast and are theory heavy. If you really want to learn the physics concepts you'll probably want to review them on your own.
Great professor, terrible teacher. If you want an easy A but don't want to learn anything then take this professor. Hw is group base and same for midterm. The final is split into group portion and individual. It nearly impossible to fail this class but when learning it is hard as he goes fast, use soft voice, he's writing is okay, and he yap a lot.
If you only care about passing, take this class. But if you care about learning? I would NOT take him as he makes his lectures very confusing. I went the entire semester confused and just gave up on trying to learn from him. That being said, he makes the class easy to pass but I can't say I really learned anything useful.
If you want to learn, don't take him. For an easy A, do take him. 40% of the grade is homework, which, as long as you do your part and comment on roughly three other teams' posts, is an easy 100%. Midterm is all online and is a discussion post. Final is the same, plus an in-person portion. Super lenient, email him if you missed something.
Had a great time this Summer in Dr. Picketts thermo class. I really enjoyed his teaching style, and the way he had us setup our own experiments. 10/10!!!! Would recommend this professor to anyone.
An easy A teacher for sure, as all the work and the majority of exams are group exams, along with being lenient with assignments. However, I struggled a lot in learning, as there would be a lot of points throughout the semester where I had no idea what he was talking about, which made me feel frustrated. Definitely not that bad, though.
This is the undisputable goat. This is the Lebron Raymone James of teaching Physics 151. If it's between Pickett and another professor, always bet on Galen Pickett. He lets you do ALL of your homework assignments past the due date, and all it takes is one email. If you take Galen Pickett, you will NOT fail, if you do, you go on Jayden's bus.
For his lectures he is super passionate about physics and discusses certain topics but these are better if you learn the material in advance because you can get easily lost trying to figure out what techniques or principles he uses. I think he is a very good professor if you're just starting out with physics and definitely reach out for help!
Best professor to take for physics. His goal is for all his students to pass and earn high grades in his course, most students end up earning an A or B. He is also very understanding if you talk to him and will work with you to ensure you can raise your grade. His class is more of a busy work class than a learning type of class though.
