She does not allow laptops for note taking in her class and would rather you print 50 page slides and handwrite the notes. For a tech college like UTD and for the sake of saving trees I think this requirement is archaic!
Great Professor who makes learning fun and interesting. She does not just stand up and lecture, but instead uses activities mixed with lecturing to keep students engaged. I learned a lot from this course and plan to take another course with her if my degree plan allows me to.
She is an engaging instructor and encourages her students to do well. She is friendly and willing to help her students. I would recommend her and hope to take another class by her in the future.
Cohen is a harsh grader. Rude. She won't let you speak your opinion if she doesn't approve of it. Be ready to invest much time into this class. Her reviews for the exams, need work.
She's a very good professor. She's knowledgeable, engaging and lectures with humor. Must not mistake her warm and easy going demeanor as someone who is not concerned that you are learning the material. She's very clear: read the text for the exams. Choose not to, and you do so at your own risk. Exams are more than fair if you study, period.
Professor Cohen is very nice! I recommend reading the textbook it's going to help you, especially when it comes to exams which there are 2. You have a case study and a group research paper. The tests I admit I struggle with despite reading the textbook. The questions are kind of hard, but read the chapters and notes and you'll be okay.
Group term paper, Group Case study, 2 short essays, 2 tests. This class is difficult, you have to work to get an A. You have to read every detail of the book & know vocab for the tests. The essays, make sure you write them as if you were in English class. She gives many opportunities for extra credit. Do your work and study hard, you will get an A.
She is funny and engaging, and most importantly LOVES to teach. Took two classes with her already and both were very interesting. This is not an easy A but she will do everything she can to help you out. She really cares about students' future and will guide you beyond the class material
My experience in this course was not only intriguing, but also pleasing. The professor is a total gem and knows her course inside out. She was the most well-dressed professor I have ever came across. Her sense of style is professionally chic Thank you for such a wonderful and a rare experience.
Loved her so much! I wish I could take her for every class. You can tell she really enjoys teaching and cares about her students. Best class I have had at UTD
Mrs Cohen's method of teaching was great, and she is always prepared for lectures. Am also looking forward to attend her class as i have learnt a lot from not only from her teaching but also see her as a mentor to her students.
Professor Cohen, was one of the most engaging professors I've had the privilege of take at UT Dallas. She possesses an amazing ability to get her students involved and actually is receptive to interaction and feedback.
Prof. Cohen showed her extensive knowledge in Sociology. Had a great time listening and learning. Great class.
Dr Cohen is fun, interactive, and engaging. Would take her again if I needed to!!! Not only will you learn the course material but will enjoy it. She has a great sense of fashion and makes you feel comfortable to participate in her class.
Really fun teacher, very verbose and funny. Great class, lots of good topics discussed throughout the class. Got me to start listening to NPR.
I love Dr. Cohen!!! She's an amazing teacher!! If you have to take sociology take it with her. You'll learn so much! (:
She is very energetic, knows and loves the subject, and makes it fun and engaging for her students. I would take her again.
the teacher is great and really knows the material, always answers your questions, encouraged great class discussions and gave us material that pushed our minds to really think
Took this class for the three weekend express course and thought it was going to really drag out having to be in class all day Saturday and Sunday, but Professor Cohen is great and makes the class and lectures super fun and interesting. I would definitely recommend taking her as it is a very lively class and interesting material too.
Dr. Cohen is an amazing professor who cares about her students. Her assignments and tests are pretty straight forward. Before taking the crash course I was not looking forward to going to class over the weekend, but I am glad I did because it was tons of fun! I would take the class all over again!
This by far has been one of the best college courses I have taken, everyday she would get the class engaged in the lecture to where you forget that you're even in an class. Im kind of sad the course ended. I will miss you Prof. Cohen!
Great class. I would gladly take her class again. Makes sociology very clear and makes you want to learn more.
Professor Cohen is absolutely amazing! She makes you feel comfortable in class and you learn a lot from her. Also she is pretty fine!
Great teacher, motivates students to do the best that they can. Goes over everything that will be in the upcoming exams, and makes sure that the students fully understand the lectures. Assignment rubrics are very specific, making it easy to get a good grade and she is very organized, goes along with the calendar.
I love this teacher. You can't be shy with her cause she will want some feedback. She's gorgeous too.
This class is my favorite one. We always have great discussions that help me to understand even difficult topics and pass exams easily. I really like the glad atmosphere that we have in our class due to our professor. I feel free to ask questions, because I always have friendly and informative feedback.
Great professor! Very organized and is very clear about what is due and when it is due. We didn't have reviews before each exam because lectures are straight foward and there just was no need for a review. She is very engaged with the students and makes the lectures fun!
She is an amazing professor. At first I was very iffy about her, but she turned out to be awesome! She is easy to relate to, she loves involving students and her lessons are never boring. Class discussions are her thing. All her assignments are very clear. She states exactly what she wants. I would definitely recommend her.
probably my favorite professor hands down. she was beautiful, great sense of style and an AMAZING teacher. I would definitely recommend her to people wanting to take sociology.
She engages the class fairly often in her lectures, and the cases she selects for students to presents to the class will really get the gears turning in your head for a good moment. P.S. Be prepared to have the radio station NPR in your car's set-up P.S.S. She also has a sense of fashion
If you don't like class participation don't take her. She wants you to engage. She really does know her material. I found it helpful to bring the book to class and follow along with what she was explaining, and highlight the topics she discussed. I really enjoy her class and she makes it fun.
Dr. Cohen is extremely interesting and a great teacher. Gives great feedback and always seemed willing to help. She is smoking hot, too.
Good solid class
Professor Cohen is very easy going and likes to interact with her students, In fact, it's mandatory you do that. She's a clear grader and also straight forward as to what you need to do to prepare for the exam. Attend her classes, pay attention and you're sure to pass her class with good grades.
Prof Cohen is fun and energetic. The class is straight power point lecture (she posts the power points as well). Tests are straight from the book, so you have to read, but the questions can be confusing.
The class itself was interesting and fun, as we often had negotiation scenarios in which to use our new knowledge. However, the tests were entirely from the textbook and Dr. Cohen's in-class material was not always in line with the textbook information.
She's a good professor and she's also funny. The tests are iffy, but I would take her again.
Great class to learn about negotiation and develop a variety of skills that will benefit you in your professional life. Hilarious professor, engaging lectures, and great discussionsexercises. Tests are based 100% on the book's questions but are still pretty easy. Would definitely recommend!
She is very awesome and fun. You will be laughing in her class most of the time. But remember she can also be serious but you will not regret taking her classes. She is very helpful and inspirational. Plus she is HOT!
Dr. Cohen is a very engaging lecturer, and her classes are always entertaining and funny. There are lots of hands-on activities that really allow you to practice the skills learned in class. Also, the skills we learned in the course will be very helpful in the professional world. I would take any course offered by Dr. Cohen, plus she's a babe.
Professor Cohen's class is one which I looked forward to every week. She makes the subject fun and keeps the students engaged in conversation. The exams are easy if you read the book and most of the grades are based on participation and the group project. Most assignments are due online so don't forget the due dates.
This class was quite enjoyable and fun. In-class lectures focus on scenarios and exercises which really just feel like games. Lecture notes are sparse, but she has many funny stories. No real need to take notes in class because tests are made straight from the textbook. Attendance is still necessary because of all this in-class (fun) activities.
This ended up being my favorite class this semester and Professor Cohen keeps it very interesting. She uses real life examples and we have several negotiations in class. I will look to take her again and also her class has made me want to take more negotiating classes.
Dr Cohen is a very helpful and clear professor. It might seem that she is taking the class in another direction, but usually she makes sense and really makes you think sociologically. she tries to stay as subjective as possible, but sociology is a subject that tends to introduce some bias, although she manages it very well and her students love her
Dr. Cohen is very knowledgeable in her field as well as very personable, her classes are always interesting! You have to work for your grade but I've enjoyed both classes that I've taken with her. Dr. Cohen's classes have a lot to offer students.
If you hate class participation, don't take this course. Otherwise, Professor Cohen makes lectures so applicable to real life society as well as teaches key points to the book. I recommend buying the book and bringing to class because she does follow it and you will quickly realize she does know her material. She has been my favorite professor here
I really enjoy her class. She engages all the students in class discussions, so if you're taking her class, be prepared to participate. She makes lectures fun and enjoyable. She does not overload us with assignments. The exams are not very hard if you pay attention in class. It's on of those rare classes that you look forward to attend.
Dr. Cohen is extremely personable professor. She always comes to class with energy, and takes the time to connect her students with the material through a lot of hands on exercises. My main qualm with this course is that I wanted more connection with with current events and negotiation.
Great professor
Amazing class! Dr. Cohen knows how to engage all the students in class discussions, so better be prepared to participate. She makes lectures fun and she is hilarious (plus, very fashionable) Exams are not too hard if you pay attention in class. Bottom line,it's one of those rare classes that you look forward to attend!
Great prof! Promotes some interesting conversations and tests are straightforward. The projects are interesting and not tedious!
Nice class, fun professor, no need to take notes as multiple choice comes straight from the book. Come to class.
It's hard for international student but at the same time learn alot from this class that I didn't know before.
She is engaging. Test come straight from the slides. She says you need the book, but not really. The syllabus can seem daunting, but it is doable. Fun class, come prepared for engaging interaction.
Professor Cohen is awesome! Lectures are interesting and she always engages the students into the conversation, she is truly great teacher! and hot too...
Interesting lectures. Encourages class discussion. Confusing tests.
Lectures are fun and there is a lot of interaction between students as far as negotiations. The summaries are fairly easy. The only issue with the class is the scantron tests. She uses questions from a question bank and they are hard to follow. I scored ok on the first 2 tests. If you use the textbooks website, it should be helpful. Hot as well!
Her lectures are fun and engaging, although her exam questions can be confusing at times. I studied hard for her exams and read all of the material, but I am yet to score above 90 on her 4 exams (I rarely get B's). This class has two group projects and that is probably my main complaint, my grade suffers by having to rely on unreliable people.
Love this class. It really makes you think outside of the box and look at what's really happening in the world. You definitely need to participate in class to enjoy it. The assignments are not difficult. There are two group projects but again they are not difficult. And the tests are fairly easy as long as you read the power point and go to class.
The exams are confusing, but if you read the book several times, you should be ok. The best things about this class are that there are many ways to make an A with a presentation, class participation, and class exercise response papers. I recommend taking this class. In addition, professor Cohen has many class exercises that are fun.
I have nothing to say
Great class. Really makes you think outside the box and understand what's really happening in the world. The assignments are not difficult. Group projects are mehhh, but again, they are not difficult. And the tests are fairly easy if you read. Would take another class with her. She got me listening to NPR, pretty cool
She thinks she is very smart.
Test are very CONFUSING and need to read the book or review the material well. Has a lot of class activities in groups. Have to show up to class. Gives no review for exam so study ahead of time.
Lectures go by quick, she is very interesting and funny. Gets to know the entire class and is very interactive. I loved her class and I would love to take her again.
I really enjoyed Dr. Cohen's Negotiation and Conflict Resolution class. She has a variety of lectures and class activities to help you understand and practice your negotiation skills, which is great! I think more college courses need kinesthetic learning activities. She's very funny and understanding so if your struggling, just go talk to her.
Dr. Cohen is one of my favorite professors at UTD! She has a strong sense of justice and is great at raising awareness for current issues in society. Even if you are not required to take this class, I highly recommend it for the sake of growing as a person. She is so funny, kind, and approachable, and the grading is very fair! I had so much fun!
Pros: Interactive classroom style Gives good feedback Cons: Group projects (choose your member wisely; as always) Unclear test questions (Choose the BEST answer) Irrelevant class lectures (Lecture materials do not correlate with test materials) Individual projects ( about 3 )
Great class. interesting topics, makes you realize how much you don't know! Dr Cohen is awesome!!! funny and smart, I actually showed up to classes to listen! (she says attendance is mandatory, but she doesn't really check). Will take her again next semester. I'm excited about it.
I totally enjoyed my class with Dr. Cohen. She is available and willing to give helpful insight into areas to improve as well as mentoring for future growth.
Really recommend this professor! She is very fun and helpful. The lectures are interesting and I really had a lot of fun! You can also bring treats for presentation days(:
Great professor!! She does give in-class assignments and 3 major projects, however they are easy just time consuming. If you show up to class and participate in the lectures you will get an A easy.
I loved Professor Cohen!I took her for a maymester class, but definitely wish I had her for a whole semester!
I took this class in a may ester. For only being a 12 day class, it went by fast and was pretty easy. You have to participate and attendance is mandatory for this class.
Get ready to listen to NPR every morning! The professor takes attendance every single day. Her lecture notes may not be all that clear if you try to read it without reading the textbook or attending her lectures. Her projects are quite easy. her exams can be hard if you don't read the textbook thoroughly.
Two tests, two assignments, and one debate She's a really great professor and seemed to be really interested in teaching. There was a lot of in class discussion and informal debate about topics that may be controversial
This is the first semester Cohen's culture and media class was offered. It was a very interesting class about social media. There is a lot of discussion, so you are definitely expected to participate. She is really funny and works to keep the class interesting. But you will need to reed the textbook to pass the test! Definitely recommend her
The class was really good, she is an amazing teacher if i could i would take this class again. To bad shes teaching negotiation next semester, just might have to take it.
What an amazing teacher! I so enjoyed her class, and I would take it again if I could.
Cohen is a great professor! There are only two main assignments in the class- one being a debate. The tests are pretty easy if you study. You will actually need to read the textbook, the powerpoints are not specific enough. Although the tests can be tricky, if you study enough you'll do fine. Can totally make an A in her class.
She is a great professor. There are two test that are 30 points each, two essays that are 5-7 pages worth 10 points each, and one group debate worth 15 points. If you study the textbook you will be fine on the tests. If you are interested in the media aspect, you will enjoy the class.
Grading scale is absolutely brutal and uncommon compared to other classes.
Prof Cohen is amazing. Her lectures are fascinating and make you really think. She expects you to be in class and participate. But once you get into that it doesn't feel like learning, it's just interesting. Grading is fair, other than exams she gives 2 easy A assignments to make up for bad exams. highly recommend her you won't regret it
One of my absolute favorite classes. She was super nice, and very understanding. Her lectures were some of the most unbiased I have ever been in. A very educational and entertaining course that everyone can benefit from.
Love Prof. Cohen. She's crazy funny and makes learning fun. Expect to do work tho, 3 exams and group project also. But overall, this is my fav classes so far at UTD. Lots of class activities that makes you understand what negotiation is about. Thanks for a great semester!
She was consistently enthusiastic about her material, careful in making sure that her students know what is expected of them, and fair. She won't spoon-feed a study guide for exams, but paying attention to powerpoint slides she actually uses in class helps narrow focus. A large group project was given with randomized partners. As usual, dreadful.
great lecturer
Loved Dr. Cohen!! She is an awesome professor and she cares about what you learn. She can deviate from the syllabus and ciriculum but she helps teach you some good life skills. Wish I was sociology major so I could take her again. Tests are easy if you come to class, only 2 of them; and easy group video project.
Galia is an amazing professor. Light-hearted and laid back. She uses the textbook to incorporate information in her lectures through the ppts. The grading system is a little conservative in my opinion. ONLY 2 exams both worth 75% of the entire grade and have around 37 questions on each. particapation highly stressed upon. 2 EASY projects.
There are two exams, 37.5 each. She teaches from the textbook but doesn't provide much detail, so it's most helpful to read the textbook, since some exam questions come straight from research mentioned in the textbooks but not mentioned in class. If you don't go to class/read the book, you will fail especially bc she takes attendance every time.T
She is an awesome professor. She genuinely cares about her student and is fair grader. Just gotta do your work and pay attention. There are 2 exams, one group video and a individual assignment. If you do your work, it's an easy A class.
Great Professor!
Enthusiastic and hilarious professor, but her grading scale is kind of frustrating. Go to lecture because some of the things she talks about will be on the exam. Every question is important on her exams as there's only two exams worth a whopping 37.5% each with 37 questions. Lowkey wish I took the online class instead tho (brutal grading scale)
Good lecturer. Tests are 37 questions each and 37.5% of your grade which means each question is 1% of your final grade. 2 easy projects & attendance is mandatory. Lectures are more discussion but it highlights the exam & more info comes from the book. If you have a borderline grade (89.5) she won't bump. Pretty stingy w/ her grades. A is possible.
Great lecturer. Course material isn't difficult but she has a poorly structured grading scale. Two exams worth 37.5% each. She claims to be "bad at math" so she only has 37 questions so each question missed 1 point off final grade. Absolutely will not round up a grade like 89.5. Not worth it for an intro class, take the online class instead.
Highly informative and interesting class but has a highly stringent grading system. You cannot afford to lose any points. TAKE ONLINE
Only 2 exams each worth 37.5 points and since each has 37 questions, it's basically one question per final grade point in the class. She's a good teacher, but she's very tough when it comes to grades and wouldn't bump me even though I was 0.3 away from an A. Honestly would not take again, don't really recommend.
She's an amazing professor. Her realistic and laid-back approach make the class fascinating! She takes the time to go off book and teach you some important life skills . Genuinely cares about teaching and about students. Only 2 exams but 2 easy projects which she admits will get you an A if you just show effort. also hilarious. My fav class!
My favorite professor EVER. Got to experience her class. She's funny and smart and makes the learning process fun. Her lecturers are amazing and actually apply to real life. CalleThis is an easy A class if you do the work. It's sociology people, not rocket science (her words). Will take her again next semester
I truly enjoyed the class. Great professor (hot too).
Highly recommended class. Grading a bit tough but tests are easy if you study plus 2 easy A projects. She bring tons of energy to class. Refreshing!
She is a solid choice for a professor. Very enthusiastic about the subject she is teaching. Her lectures can be a bit off topic, but it is because she is trying to mentor you as well. You can't get by just by memorizing the ppt- if you study you will ace the tests for sure. Pay attention during lectures, 2 tests, 2easy projects (one group project).
Lectures are interesting, but get off topic. Power points are just guidelines to study from book. Questions on tests are ill-phrased and difficult. 1 group project, 1 individual. Tests are 75 points of final grade, projects are 10 each, and attendance is 5. Easy to pass, hard to get an A even with attendance and studying. Will not bump an 89.5.
She really is a great professor with a great sense of humor! She gives a very clear grading criteria and the material is easy and interesting. My best advice is to study for your tests and come to class. She is more than happy to help answer questions and she's very good in engaging the class during lecture. She's really awesome and i LEARNED A LOT
Professor Cohen is a great professor to have interesting and fun lectures with. She really takes Sociology in depth and relates it to life, which makes her perfect if you're really into Sociology. I struggled because the tests were pretty difficult, as the lectures got off topic, and didn't talk about content that we would be tested over.
I absolutely loved this class and would recommend anyone taking it. Exams were over the textbook, lots of open-ended discussion. Overall, Dr. Cohen made this class very enjoyable. Her happy personality and sense of humor kept the class entertaining even though the class itself was highly interesting.
Dr. Cohen made this class a memorable, fun experience. She brought in speakers that contributed to class discussions. The way the class was organized made the learning material easy to understand and her real life examples were helpful. Honestly, seeing the professor so enthusiastic about teaching was definitely something that brightened my day.
Dr Cohen is super caring and will help you if you need it. Great prof, 9/10.
There's 3 exams, a group project, and one very easy and eye-opening assignment. Her lectures are interesting, which is good because she takes attendance for a grade. She's nice but doesn't play games, so don't try and be slick because she's not going to be here for it. Study lecture notes and skim book and you'll be fine.
Dr. Cohen is a great professor. She is very engaged in her teaching and her students. In class we have 3 in class tests, video project, and a very eye opening assignment. She makes it a very fun class. She is super friendly and caring. I would take some of her other classes if I would need to.
Attendance is mandatory for the class. Tests cover lecture and the textbook so its necessary to read. There is only a 100 points that make up her class so each point missed on an assignment corresponds to a point off your final grade, which is stressful.
The class has 3 tests, one group project, and an individual project that was pretty interesting. Part of your grade is based on attendance, so show up. For the group project, she is fair about the grading based on participation in the project if someone doesn't do their part or participate she will take care of it, people won't ride off your work.
I enjoyed this class. The grade is made up of three tests, which aren't horribly difficult, a group project, an individual project, and attendance. Be prepared to engage in class, discussions are very important to her.
Definitely attend class, it's mandatory. Some of the things she specifically talks about in class appears on the exam. Lectures don't cover everything, so make sure to read the textbook. There are only a couple graded assignments, so everything is graded pretty heavily.
I enjoyed this class, not very hard. Just read The book, it is Really informative, and it gives a gOod understanding of verY important topics given in the textbook. The teacher is Kind of outgoIng, so for the Most part I found this class entertaining.
I enjoyed lectures more than I thought I would. Dr. Cohen is wonderful, beautiful and funny. The most important part is to just do the assignments and attend lectures so you know what you have to study. Read the book and you will be fine. I would definitely take this class again.
The textbook is kind of dry, but if you go to lecture, she tells you what pages to read. Every point off one of your assignments correlates to one point off of your final grade, so that makes it a lot harder.
Entertaining lectures
Lectures go off topic sometimes so reading the book is a must to get all the info Overall good intro class
First off group project members that work hard are a MUST. You need good members to get a solid grade in the class they're very kind and it helps to participate in class and contribute to the overall learning of the material. Would take again
This class is very doable, and on the easy side. Still, make sure you go to class and pay attention. Theres a group project, so make sure you get good group members.
Study hard for the tests. Pay attention in class to lectures. She goes on tangents, so have the book ready as a supplement. Find a good group to do the project in. Class is easy to get a good grade in. A is hard to get given the minimal assignments given and low question tests, but easy to get a B+. Participate in class to get most out of lectures.
You can get an A in this class. Trust me. Its interesting and easy going. The Prof is great and you will have nothing to worry about.
Besides the outdated examples she uses in lecture, she is pretty understandable.
Professor Cohen has a great personality that shines through her lectures. She makes a real effort to connect examples to her students lives, though sometimes her examples are just a tad outdated. She makes class very open ended and interactive. Definitely appreciate her style and would take again.
I really enjoyed the class and her lectures were really engaging and entertaining. The only real downfall is the grading system. Each exam (there are three) is worth 26 points out of 100, but they are also only 26 questions, so one question is one point of your grade. You also need a 94 to get an A instead of the usual 93.
Dr. Cohen is an amazing professor! I love her personality and she makes the lectures really interesting! Though having very few grade opportunities and heavy weight on the tests, her class is very enjoyable and she cares about her students and brings in interesting examples!!
Very good professor, knows a lot about the subject and an exceptional teacher. Very fun and enthusiastic. There was a group project but it wasn't too bad and attendance is mandatory. Loved having her and would take this class again.
This course is fun but lectures do go off on a tangent. There is one group project so get with people that will work. Grading system is rough too, and her class is only 100 points, so if you have a lazy group member, they could literally be taking points from your grade.
She is so influential and the lectures are fun and useful.
There's one group project so get with people you know will get work done. Only a few tests, and not many questions on each, so study hard. She goes off on tangents in lecture sometimes but they're entertaining so it's alright. She'll only ever test over what was covered in class, but definitely read the textbook anyway.
I'm a pre-med student, and this class is a breather from all the tough courses you have to take! I actually enjoyed coming to class, because even though there were ppts the class was more discussion based, which was fun. The 3 tests are pretty easy, all I did was memorize the ppts and read the textbook. The ppts are short and concise. Easy class!
Dr. Cohen is such an amazing professor! If I'm being honest, I used to go to class to see her cute outfits. In all seriousness, she is such a great professor and her lectures are really fun. Her exams are super easy if you just skim the chapters and read her ppts. Especially for us pre-med kids, her class is so much more relaxed and boost your GPA
Dr. Cohen does an excellent job of communicating with students during lectures instead of doing the typical "talk at your captive audience" approach and often consults the entire class for views or opinions. She is also very quick to respond to emails as long as they are not last-minute panic emails. Group projects are an easy A, lots of fun too.
Dr. Cohen's class is amazing!! You should definitely consider taking her class, she's a amazing teacher and she is really determined to making sure every student understands the lectures. Her lectures are very interesting, as well. There is a sign in sheet though, so go to class. And read the textbook for her tests! It's an easy A for sure!
She's a great teacher. It is best to read from the textbook, but if you do your best its an easy A.
Very engaging lecturer, encourages class participation and discussion;she tends to get off topic and waste time that could be used to discuss more textbooks topics;Read the chapters for tests and you should get a high A on them. Gives two annoying projects that take some time (don't procrastinate!);Attendance mandatory and no laptops/phones allowed
She loves what she does, and loves talking to the class. Actively asks questions to engage discussions that help with the lectures. Read the textbook and lecture notes for exams and you'll do fine
Such a great professor. She cares about her students and will help if she can. If you do all the work it's an easy grade. Make sure to read the textbook before tests and to push your group to do well on any projects. I got kind of screwed by my group because they wanted to do the easy way.
Make sure to take notes! She says not to but it helps to keep track of all the info she gives
Lecture always has an interesting twist and a memorable class environment. Great teacher and easy A.
Good class and entertaining professor. 3 exams, so if you do badly on one of them, you won't recover. Definitely recommend listening in class and reading the textbook cause she may test on details that are not in the ppt. One group project and one regular project (both very doable, although we haven't gotten the grade for the group project yet).
Although I took this class merely for credit, I got more out of it than I thought I would. Interesting lectures (expect tangents) and the 26 question exams weren't horrible. She is a stickler on phones though so just make sure to listen and she won't hate you haha. Other than that, enjoyed the class and the workload is minimal!
Definitely a great professor, she really knows her material (sociology). I would recommend going to class, because if it was discussed in class, it will be on test. One of the classes that I actually liked going to especially since the lecture kept my attention rather than being too boring!
This class is probably one of the most straightforward sociology classes you will take. The tests are short and follow the power points closely. The lectures are engaging and very interesting. She really tries to get you involved in discussions which makes the class go by quickly. The one group project you have is very easy as long as you do it!
The slides are very helpful they are used during lecture and are posted online for studying for exams which are really helpful
This class was one of my favorites, and I looked forward to going to each class. I got more out of this class than I expected. Her exams are easy if you study the slides and the book, also take note on what she says in class for the exams. Such a fun teacher, she loves teaching this subject.
The class is really easy and fun to be in. The exams are straightforward of you listen in class and go through the power points after. I would definitely recommend her for a GPA booster.
A really great class!! Two absences allowed per semester which is really great! A very intriguing class, attending class, taking notes and reading will result in a pleasant semester.
Harsh grading system added unnecessary stress to what was supposed to be my blowoff class, but I still got an A. She's pretty no-nonsense & not very accessible outside of class, but lectures were fun. 2 absences allowed, 3 fairly easy tests (need to read the book & pay attention in lecture), 2 easy projects (1 group and 1 individual).
Honestly enjoy sitting in her class two days a week. Dr. Cohen is a very great professor that teaches passionately, talking about every aspect that relates to the topic without boring the class.
Professor Cohen was a great professor, she really cares about the subject and tries to make it as interesting and relevant as possible. If you go to class and pay attention you will pass. There are some projects but they are super easy.
She's a good teacher, and her tests aren't too hard either. Just don' skip and you'll do fine.
Lectures were fun, but tests were textbook based, though not mutually exclusive
Easy to cheat in this class. She doesn't proctor the exams herself and has some TA who doesn't know what he's doing proctor, so I saw a lot of students just talking to each other during the exams. Also, she told us to read unbiased news yet kept talking about NPR, which is pretty left-leaning. What a mess.
Great class and awesome professor. She brings SO much energy to class that you actually start getting excited about the topic! 3 exams (easy) and a group project (fun if you have the right people). I enjoyed class. she does go off tangents but her stories are good and even just looking at her is not so bad hehe.
The class grading is ridiculous and she purposely makes the exams even more difficult to get an A. Every point missed on an assignment is a point taken off your final grade. She purposely makes her questions tricky and they are over minute details in 30 page long chapters. She doesn't round either so a 93.99 is still an A-. Avoid her.
She is an amazing professor And I really enjoyed her class
Dr. Cohen is a one of a kind professor. She's funny, she's knowledgable, she loves teaching but she also doesn't play games! 3 exams, multiple choice, straight from text (you need to study, so what?) and 2 easy projects that help you recover from exams if need. I was actually looking forward for her class every week. Such a unique experience!
Honestly enjoy sitting in her class two days a week. Dr. Cohen is a very great professor that teaches passionately, talking about every aspect that relates to the topic without boring the class.
She's a great person (really attractive too)! Her exams might screw you over though, kinda hard to study for, some questions are over pretty minute details from the text. Attendance matters very much so go to class. She was pretty funny and open to many other people's views which I really respected. Probably one of the most open minded profs here
Fantastic course, looked forward to going twice a week! Very intelligent, passionate, witty, and has a great sense of style. She will put you in your place faster than anyone! No nonsense! Course is very straightforward. Exams can be tough, study slides in depth. One group project with a paper which was tough, but fun and insightful class.
Love her, she's well liked within her department too. Really interactive class, with questions and debates encouraged during lecture time. Makes things really easy to understand for beginners. Really amazing prof and everyone should take her class!!
Professor Cohen is a genuinely socially aware and intelligent professor. She truly cares about each and every student in her class and devotes time to acknowledge and encourage her students. Her lectures are informative and her exams are fair. Everything is fairly up to date and she is very welcoming to her students ideas and opinions.
you can miss 2 classes before your grade goes down. 5 grades: 3 exams, a group project, and an essay. Exams straight from lecture, but sometimes will have sections of the textbook, but shell tell you beforehand what you need to read. Honestly u could get someone to sign you in every class and just read the textbook. Dont skip guest lectures tho
I honestly enjoyed her lectures they were very interesting and made you not want to skip. The class was pretty easy you just have to show up to every lecture and read the textbook(especially for the test). We have one individual assignment and a group project fairly easy. But overall she is a great professor and I recommend taking her!
This is an awesome professor! I couldn't wait to attend her class M/W. She really makes topics interesting, and causes the class to think. The class discussions were incredible! Definitely recommend!
Professor Cohen was definitely one of the better professors I've had. She is relatable and gives interesting lectures. There are a variety of tasks during the semester including group-work and a budget assignment. Tests are very important as they carry high weightage and aren't easy. Take the tests seriously and you'll do well in Dr. Cohen's class.
She is the best professor i have ever had. Enjoyed her lectures and sense of humor. She keeps it real.
This professor is amazing. She makes the class so fun to go to. There is one group project but honestly it's really fun. There is only one assignment and the exams are fairly easy if you come to class or read the textbook. She is really engaging and gives you information that you will use in your everyday life and she inspired to be a better person
She is super funny and tries to make the class fun. Her patience is low though.
AMAZING COURSE, looked forward to going! Dr. Cohen is intelligent, passionate, witty and hot. Lectures were super fun and insightful. She really encourages class discussion. But dont mistake her fun personality for getting around with bs. Shes no nonsense and will put you in your place faster than anyone! I strongly recommend this course to anyone
I have emailed her questions several times, which she has not answered. The class is online, but the test questions are ridiculously specific and difficult to find in the textbook, online, or have memorized. The TA has been very helpful, but she has ignored my attempts at communication or has just told me bluntly to ask the TA.
Professor enjoys discussing different topics, and respects peoples opinions. If you just go to class and read over the book before the test, you will pass. However if you engage in discussions, you will get so much more than just a letter grade. She also allowed 2 free absences.
Best course best prof Ive ever taken. Prof Cohen is amazing! she teaches you conflict resolution skills youll need for life. Class is not just lectures, theres also lots of discussions and hands-on exercises. She is funny, passionate and energetic and beautiful. You have to take her !
Really fun class! We learned a lot, but her tests are fill in the blank and its not obvious what shes wanting. Thats the only downside, because tests are the majority of the grade. You are only allowed 2 absences before she starts counting off. There is a group paper & PowerPoint.
Dr. Cohen is a really good professor. She has lectures but also encourages discussion about the topic at hand. Her class is mandatory attendance but she allows 2 absences. The rest of the class is 4 exams and 2 projects. The exams are easy as long as you pay attention, and the projects are simple as long as your read the rubric.
Exams are fill in the blank and they count for most of your grade. No chances for extra credit. Shes passionate about teaching this course and its shows. She deducts point from your attendance if you miss more than 2 days.
Take the class online! It'll save your GPA and your time. Dr. Cohen calls out students in her class a lot if they are caught not paying attention. Her lectures are average, at times engaging, but overall I would regret not taking the class online. I am a premed student, and some how my GPA was screwed over by this class!!
Dr Cohen is fantastic! She encourages class discussion and respects peoples opinions. Her classes are kick more than just lectures. Class overall is easy, 4 exams, assignment, group project, plenty of options to make up the grade. But you get much more than just a grade on this class. She also allows 2 free absences.
Pretty fun class. She tries her best and makes the class interactive and fun. She also gets guest lecturers that talk about crime, violence, and law. Tests are also pretty easy. Not too many assignments or projects, and her assignment grading isn't strict either. Definitely recommend taking this class.
Dr. Cohen was such an amazing professor. Her class was very interesting and relevant without being difficult. Grade is based off four exams and a few other assignments; exams are pretty easy as well. She really cares about her students and is really fun and kind!! Definitely will be taking a class with her again.
-1000XS BETTER THAN HICKS -She is a great lecturer, funny and great person & communicates well -Must read the book and attend lectures to do well on the tests, but that is like most classes -Exams are hard -Mindtap homework -Mandatory attendance, only have 2 skips -Group project, so that has its ups and downs -Takes a while to submit grades
She's a goofy professor who is great to have as a professor, just the class for those who dont NEED it. it seems like a waste of time. although cohen is funny and easy going -the tests being from the bank. If you want a blow off class.. this is it... attendance is 5 points on your grade so.
Dr. Cohen is not a bad professor per se. She is passionate about her students but the overall class was confusing. Most classes there were guest speakers (which were not covered in the exams) and she lectured very few times. The tests are very confusing as you never know exactly what she wants you to know and the questions asked were very confusing
This class is a GPA booster, but you will get an amazing experience out of it. She brings in interesting guest lecturers (including police officers) and her lectures themselves are interesting. She's open minded, funny, and encourages different opinions during our class discussions. Everyone can get something out of her class!
The content of this class is pretty simple. She's the funniest, nicest Jewish lady I have met. Requires a lot of memorization of vocab, attend mandatory lectures, very engaging, and also encourages discussion. A lot of fun (and one boring) guest lectures. I don't like sociology too much, but this class was lit!
I loved her and her class! Super easy A! Study with a group it helps a lot.
Amazing class. I especially loved the fluidity of the course and the ability of anyone to speak their opinion and join in discussion. Professor Cohen made the class very enjoyable and worth wanting to learn more. she brings outside/ real life scenarios to help us learn and stay engaged. She is very open to listening to new ideas. I love her so much
This was only class this semester I enjoyed and looked forward to attending. Professor Cohen was by far one of the best professors Ive had here at UT Dallas. The assignments fair, group project was actually entertaining for the whole class. I also like that she gets guest lecturers to class. I admire that Prof. Cohen genuinely loves her job!
Absolutely loved Dr.G she was amazing and brought so much energy and passion to class ! She has great sense of humor and always made the class interesting. Seriously, this was easily my favorite classes of all time, and the professor was easily the thing that made me the most interested in it. Never change Dr. Cohen, you made that class awesome!
Her writing assignments are too vague. She grades too hard. Would not recommend.
