worst teacher i have ever had.
The worst teacher i ever had! She made you feel stupid when you asked questions. She talked towards the wall and not the class. Spoke quietly. Did not help at all and would not go over problems when asked. I would NEVER RECOMEND THIS TEACHER SHE WAS AWFUL! Dont take. Gives hours of homework and does not have time to go over quetions in class. BAD
do not take her. she is horrible! i do understand her lectures as she is not clear when she clears explain things. lots of homework everynight. she grades hard also on tests. one little mistake and you get deducted -5pts.
Between the accent and being quiet, Galina can be a bit hard to understand sometimes. The class moves along quickly because of the amount of material that needs to be covered. Do the homework and read the book and there shouldn't be any trouble.
Really hard to get used to her accent. She gets frustrated when you don't understand. She doesn't explain anything, just shows you the steps out of the book. Might as well have taken an online class or bought a comp. program. I would highly reccomend you not take this class with this teacher unless you already know the material.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had, she doesn't like to answer questions, she grades super hard, gives lots of homework on weekends and we never use the book EVER. Waist of time money and a grade. I have always gotten A's in Math but not anymore. Star clear, don't risk it, once your stuck in the class your GPA will suffer.
SHE CANT EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH AND SHOULD BE IN SCHOOL TO LEARN ENGLISH INSTEAD OF TRYING TO TEACH A MATH CLASS IN WHICH ALL SHE DOES IS CONFUSE STUDENTS WITH HER ACCENT
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!! DOESNT WANT HER STUDENTS TO SUCCEED! DOESNT WORK WITH YOU WHEN YOU ASK FOR HELP. GETS MAD WHEN STUDENTS ASK A QUESTION. UNCLEAR. BORING. JUST DOES PROBLEMS ON THE BOARD, WITH LITTLE EXPLANATION. WHEN SHE GIVES YOU A QUIZ, SHE TIMES YOU. ITS DIFFICULT ENOUGH TO DO MATH, ESP. UNDER TIME CONSTRAINT! UGH, DONT TAKE HER!!!!!!!
Galina is a great math teacher who DOES listen to students and helps them with their problems. True she does have an accent, but so do we to her! The point here is to learn and as a result, I improved tremendously in math. The below comments don't give her any credit. She is a great teacher and if you want to succeed, then give her a try!
I didn't have any problem with her accent but Don't take her class. She is really good person but not for teaching. When we told her we have question on number 44 she said I don't want solve for you because it's even number and you don't need to work on even number just work on odd number. Her grade is unfair.
REALLY hard to understand...Its a joke almost
she doesnt explain clearly and is hard to understand
the worst teacher ive ever had!!! she talks towards the wall, times you on test and takes them away after a few seconds, bad grading system, gets mad when you ask questions, and goes through the material faster than you can think. dont take this class
Her accent is really hard to understand and she gets really mad and irritated when you ask a question. I felt like she didn't want to help us but just zip through the material she was teaching. Her exams are okay, not too hard but as long as you go to class and study the material, you should be fine. Quizzes are timed and she drops the lowest score
Her accent is thick but not to the point that she's unintelligible, and she definitely tries harder than most non-English speakers to be understood. She answers questions and goes over the material several times to make sure that the class understands. She was a good prof, and I'd take her again. Don't let her accent scare you.
Galina is the best math teacher I have ever had. Although she does have a bit of an accent, I have found her easy to understand. This class moves along very fast, so you have to keep up with the work. As long as you keep up she will explain everything in a way that is easy to understand. "Math is the language of all science."
best math teacher ever. After the quarter was over I imediately signed up for her for the next 2 quarters
Professor K. helped me understand Algebra -previously I had a terrible time grasping the concepts after I learned them; now I have a good understanding. Her accent is a little hard to get at first, but after the first day you adapt to it. Spent a lot of time on reviewing HW and tests, so ask q's. She works hard to be sure you get it. Good Prof!
Speaking English clearly ought to be a prequesite for teaching mathematics. i guess BCC desparate to get enough math teachers have to settle with they can get.
just wish i could understand her let alone math. sorry just did not like her arrogance
difficult to understand, no interest in explaining concepts to students who have questions, hasn't smiled once all semester
She us very hard to understand and is sarcastic when a student asks questions. I Do not reccomend her!!
Galina really is a great teacher. She's very knowledgable in math. She is however she is hard to understand because she has a very thick russian accent. You really do have to attend EVERY class or you'll have a really hard time passing. Homework is optional, but encouraged.
Kashinsk is a great teacher. She has a bit of an accent but this shouldn't be much of a problem. Before class starts she always asks if there are any questions on yesterdays homework, then covers a NEW section on her lecture. Homework is optional but do them if you want a good grade. Attendance is MANDATORY! If you fall behind it's hard to catch up
She's crazy, funny but crazy. She's a good professor, covers a lot of material but she always does example problems before moving on. If you're there and paying attention, it's hard to fall behind in her class. I never did homework but I was there everyday and studied for tests and pulled out an A-
I have taken Galina now for two quarters and have aced her class every time. She is thorough, knowledgeable, and will answer questions. Despite her reputation, she has a very positive attitude toward her students, as long as you work hard and go to class EVERY DAY. The accent, I admit, took some getting used to, but not impossible at all.
She is admittedly difficult to understand, however I feel she is very clear and will help you if you need it. She seemed a little cold at first, but warms up to you as long as you attend class and are respectful (which is what everyone wants). I would take her again. Have to remember it is a year of work crammed into a quarter!
NO!!!! unless you are familiar with Russian accents dont take this class!!!, it makes learning very difficult especially if you have a hard enough time understanding the material. I hated it more than any class ive taken in a long time.
Really bad math teacher! Can't even speak English very clearly and has a low voice. You have to sit up in the first three rows to be able to hear her. Attendance is mandatory, so don't even think about skipping class. I dreaded every day! I hate this teacher!
I personally liked Galina and found her teaching methods preferable to the other math instructors I have taken. She does have a thick accent and quiet voice so she can be difficult to understand. She doesn't take nonsense, she gets her part done and expects students who care will do the same, which is how it should be. She's not one for babying.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!! She hated when we asked question. Never explained things well. Accent really hard to understand. Never said hello just went right into teaching. Acted like she was bothered to even having to teach class.
I dont really know where to begin, but just promise me that you dont take her class. She was extremely unfare, not helpful whatsoever, never smiles, talks VERY quiet, and is very dry with everything. Her "method" of teaching is rushing through the hard material. Thick accent, and TOUGH grader. I normally get A's but I have an F and dropping out
You have to do a lot of self study, so if you are able to learn independently, you shouldn't have much of a problem in this class. She doesn't have any office hours so there is very little help that you can ask from her. I believe that half of the people dropped from this class.
Great teacher. If you came to class and are ready to learn Galina is great. She is methodical, and very to the point, which works very well with math classes. Most of the students who didn't like her class never came, and their grades suffered. Honestly the best teacher I've ever had, anywhere.
I felt like she didn't care about her students or their success. She would get annoyed if you asked questions. Midway through the quarter she told the class to withdraw if they were doing poorly. We had a few snow days near the end and she proceeded with a test, and it turned out that at least half of the class failed that test. Don't take her!
Worst Professor I have ever had!!!! Rude, un happy and annoyed with her students. Rushes through the material, doesn't answer questions, no office hours so very little help if she'll give you the time of day. VERY thick accent, and EXTREAMLY quiet. I advise you to drop class ASAP or just do not take it.
I liked Galina's style of teaching, like someone else said, very methodical. Her accent is strong so get a front row seat. No she's not very friendly but I found that by being friendly to her I was able to break her shell a little. I look at it as a culture difference. Most Russian/Ukrainians I have known are very business like.
Very good Math teacher! She does speak softley and has a strong accent, but a solid teacher. If you have a question, make sure to ask right away. Make sure you do the homework and you'll do fine!
This teacher is extremely unhelpful. I asked questions in class and she barely explained them and I couldnt understand her! I had to drop the class because I was getting so frustrated. She was not friendly at all. Seemed very stuck up and rude.
Galina is very soft spoken and has a thick accent, but her teachings are easy to follow. She does rush fast with her teachings, but her quizes/homework are easy. I wish I could take her for Math 99, unfortunately she doesn't teach in the summer.
She is a good teacher and is very helpful. She always takes time to answer questions after the class. Her accent is very strong and it was hard for me to understand her lecture but go ask her later. Her quizzes were not difficult at all if you do the homework. I found that homework was much harder. Come prepared coz she always has pop quizzes.
Very difficult to understand.
Horrible teacher. Don't take her class.
Awful teacher! She's rude and unhelpful. Do not take her class!
If you're like me and math is not your subject, find another teacher. I got Cs on most of my quizzes after incessant studying, and I will be lucky if I get away with a B or a B-. She does have a thick accent and talks quietly, so sit in the front. She is nice, but does not have time to help outside of class and the class is fast-paced.
Please! do not take her. Her accent is Hard it makes her English very HARDDDDD to understand! she's intimidating as well. If your'e still taking her I recommend you to sit in the in front.
Her class is pretty straightforward. She will show a definition and give examples, which are similar to quiz problems. If you're able to do the homework in her class, you will be able to get good grades on the quizzes. Her accent is a little hard to understand, but the class format is great. If you come to class everyday you will get a good grade
The class is very easy, teacher is a bit hard to understand at times and the homework is not graded. So the most crucial thing to do is to prepare for the final exam.
Teaches well in math. Shows ALL steps and NO SHORTCUTS. Never teaches out of textbooks which is good. Heavy accent. Soft talker, so sit in front of class. She grades quizzes and tests SUPER HARD and if you miss a step in showing your work, you will lose a plethora of points. Expects you to know everything by the quiz day.
Galina is not bad at all. She does not have office hours because she it part time, so getting her attention can be hard. In the end, she will teach what needs to be taught, though. If you apply yourself, do the homework, and visit the math lab when necessary you'll get an A. I would take her again.
Galina was not a bad teacher. She taught the recquired materials in a way that usually makes sense. She has a strong accent and speaks quietly, so sit closer to the front if possible.
I found her class was very straight forward and easy, aside from her speaking very quietly. The final was a piece of cake IMO and was only hard for those who didn't do the homework. I wasn't doing well the first part of the quarter but then I started asking Ms. Kashinskaya for clarification on math problems I didn't understand, also I studied daily
Galina talks quietly and has a thick accent. she goes over and teaches material really quickly and doesnt like answering question because it takes up class time although she will do so. she also speaks in a monotone voice. her class was boring and not interesting
When I saw all of the comments about this teacher I was pretty surprised, but honestly she's a pretty fair teacher. Everything on her tests were what was presented in the homework and lecture. If you are willing to take the time to understand the problems and homework, you should be able to get an A.
I took Galina's class a little while back and it wasn't too difficult of a class. She clarified whatever questions that I had. If you do the non required homework every night and study you'll do awesome. If you're struggling in math 141 now it's only going to get a lot tougher when you move onto integrals, vectors and polar coordinates.
Galina is a very straight-forward instructor. Her teaching structure is based on the text and chapters. Her syllabus instructs participation but found out that she doesn't really like answering question based on things which she taught. She isn't very effective when it comes to clarity. She answers any other questions after class...mixed feelings
This was a good class. Concepts and procedures were explained in a way that was easy to understand. Her accent can make it a bit difficult to understand and she does talk fast so you have to pay attention but she gives you all the information that you need to pass the quizes and tests. She doesn't expect you to know something unless she taught it.
Takes a hard subject anf makes it more difficult. Uses proper names for each type of equation and with her accent equations proper names all sound the same. Skips over steps when explaining on the board. Never gives enough time to work on problems she asks us to solve in class.
You can adjust to her accent, but it's hard at first. I would never take her again, but it wasn't completely terrible. She taught everything that she quizzed on. As long as you take good notes and do the problems she does on the bored alongside of her, you'll do fine. DO THE PROBLEMS SHE TELLS YOU TO DO AGAIN!!!
Galina is a pretty straight forward teacher. Honestly its not that hard, she loves it when you ask questions and offers extra credit on many of her quizzes which is a plus. I got a A- in her class and I actually don't even enjoy math. Just follow everything she does and ask questions. Easy as that!
Galina is an okay teacher. thick accent but like to everyone else you'll adjust to it. she teaches very well, very uptight. she never deviates to a different topic. you'll do good as long as you stay on the right course. I would take her again.
Am currently taking her class and I would say that she knows what she is talking about and always prepared but she isn't very clear on giving feed back in class or on tests and doesn't give enough time to answer homework questions. Very heavy textbook use and do not miss class. Ok prof. Would not retake her.
Galina is a great teacher. She does not deviate from the lesson, but she explains all concepts well. She teaches you the material that will be on the tests, so you will not be surprised. Very little extra credit is offer, so if you don't do well on the tests your grade WILL suffer. If you do not like math, DO NOT TAKE GALINA. She is a fair grader.
Yes, her accent is thick, and yes she's not loud but you can understand if you listen. She absolutely knows the material and if you pay attention, you will learn it. The course is VERY fast paced and there is no grading on homework. If you are not a strong test taker, take another section. No complaints here.
She doesn't talk loud, has a thick accent. She doesn't care to help you and is very strict, grades very hard, and doesn't like to answer questions. If you aren't strong in math...DO NOT TAKE HER
What a mistake!BC needs new math professors! I am shocked how much this professor does not seem to want to her students to succeed. Out of 40 ish people enrolled , 20 ish are left mostly failing. You will be tested the fallowing day on new concepts, tough tests, no mercy when grading. Just don't. I hear good thing about Tony.
A horrible teacher. She's too strict with grading, rushes her work, encourages struggling students to give up, and shows little interest in helping out her students. If you ask for clarification, she shrugs and says to just "read the book". I have to drop this class now or else I risk complete failure.
She has a very thick accent & she doesn't speak very loudly. She knows what she's talking about, she's thorough, & she gives plenty of time to ask questions. Homework isn't graded in this class. The class has weekly quizzes & a final at the end of the quarter. If you don't test well, you should pick another professor. I enjoyed the class though.
She gives detailed lectures and does a good job covering all material in the limited amount of time yielded. However i found many students had issues communicating questions. My problem was she is monotone/boring to listen to, and i found myself using online resources on things I would miss. She is okay.
Do not take her class. She doesn't like her students to succeed. Grades hard, doesn't answer questions a lot. Expects you to know everything without her. One of the horrible instructors in BC
I have never done so well in a math class before. She explains things in a logical way and connects concepts together, so instead of just memorizing formulas, you are also understanding the composition. Her style was perfect for my learning style- I wish she taught statistics. I'm actually looking forward to pre-calc with her.
Hard & strict with her grading and course schedule. There is no slowing down for those who have fallen behind. Keep up with hw, it isn't collected, but it is highly reflective of your quiz grades which make up your final grade solely! Only issue: quiz questions were 10x more difficult than hw questions :/ makes it hard, but still got an A-.
First off she has a VERY thick Russian accent. Also she goes over things way too fast and will end up leaving you behind. I don't recommend taking her at all. She marked the entire class wrong on a test question because we showed the work but her tests specifically say show your work... I don't understand her or what's taught in class.
She is very quiet, I even sat in the front row. She is not willing to help you more than what she teaches in class. You can't miss class, and she teaches the material she's had since she started teaching, which doesn't always directly match the current book she uses. Doesn't collect or grade homework. Don't take her unless you are amazing at math.
Teaching style is very simple, take notes, do the homework and study. All the homework is in the textbook. She explains everything clearly, it's just that she has a thick accent. I enjoyed the class very much and I would like to take her again for pre-cal. You need to attend class, also putting in some effort will get you a passing grade.
I had to drop off on Professor Kashinskaya's recommendations. On average I got 50% on every single quize due to poor explanations of subject. Retook the class with different instructor and received A-. Wouldn't recommend to anybody. Take whatever instructor you want but not Kashinskaya.
Mrs. Kashinskaya is not for everyone. She's quite strict and is very direct in her teaching method. She explains things succinctly and expects students to do their part, i.e. learn. This is not the type of professor you can crack jokes with, but she is the type that'll explain concepts in as few words as necessary. She's stern, but good at her job.
Shen is the worst teacher I have ever had! Before this class I was a 4.0 student and she gave me a C- event though I studied 2 hrs+ a day! DO NOT TAKE HER! She's not clear or helpful!
Do not take her class unless you want to ruin your GPA and want to come out of the classroom frustrated after the classes!!! She makes simple things complicating. Plus, grades hard.
She is a strict, no nonsense kind of professor. Treat her with the respect and dignity of her position and she will do the same. This is not the class for an immature running start kid, you know who you are, so keep that in mind. Overall she is very to the point and clear. She does not assign homework so it is up to you to put the work in.
Not sure why so many negative comments! Galina is crystal clear in her explanations (even with her accent, which is not nearly as strong as some of my other teachers from India). Goes over MANY examples in class. Quizzes do not have any surprises on them. Always helps if you ask questions. Do HW even though it's not graded. I would take her again!
I absolutely love her teaching and I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews! The only complaint I have is that she speaks quietly and you have to sit decently far forward to hear her. Pay attention in class and you'll pass it. She is very clear when she answers questions and in her explanations. Homework neither collected nor graded.
Teaching style is lecturing from her notes, if questions are asked she doesn't try to clear up confusion, just repeats herself and seems insulted nobody understands her. No assignment pts, only quizzes and they are heavily graded. I got an A out of the class, but literally went home each day and taught myself everything. Don't take her.
I love her! At first her accent made it difficult to understand her but once you got used to it, it was easier. She will give notes to write, explain, and then do practice problems with you. Quizzes every friday from what we learned that week. She's straight up and homework is not mandatory. If you aren't good at math, take her
First of all, this teacher is completely strict and serious with this class. If you are looking for an energetic and fun teacher, this one is not for you. You won't even see her smile. The class is not hard at all, but you need to be paying close attention to everything as she is fast and responds to questions rudely. She doesn't even use canvas.
I decided to trust the reviews that said to ignore the bad reviews on Galina. She made me love math for the first time in my life. She has tests every Friday, but they are ONLY on what you learned that week- nothing cumulative but the final. She goes over the tests on Monday question by question. Go to every class, do every homework assignment, A++
She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and just watching her solve problems makes you feel smarter. There are tests weekly but bonus points are available on most tests :) You'll need a textbook to complete the homework but it is not mandatory. She's not warm but she's a good teacher. Her accent is only a barrier for the first few days of class.
Quiz every Friday on ONLY what we learned that week. You are able to drop 2 quizzes. She doesn't collect homework, but I recommend it to practice the problems. She is one of those teachers that will do easy examples with you in class, provide harder homework, but only test you on the easy stuff. Final is cumulative.
Makes good lectures but isn't helpful towards students. Your entire grade depends on tests, and she grades super harshly. To get an A on a quiz you practically have to get everything right--miss one problem and you get an 85. I wouldn't recommend her unless you're already great at precalc. I'm an A student and had to work super hard to get my grade
She is good at teaching. I have never been a strong math student but her lectures made everything super clear. Homework is easy if you pay attention during class and take notes. There is a test every Friday covering the material for the week- this was nice because it doesn't allow you to get behind, and you get to spend your weekend math free!
Do not take her class. Never.
Galina is no help what so ever. She doesn't explain math problems well and when someone asks a question, she looks at them annoyed and says "You learned this last week." I believe that math is a subject where it is crucial to have a great teacher and Galina is not one of them. If you aren't great at math in general, do not sign up for her class.
you literally cannot understand her. her accent is crazy thick and i had to drop out because i didnt know what she was saying. she lectures everyday during class and gives a quiz every friday.
Test every Friday but her tests are based off of the hw questions and examples so it's not too hard. Pay attention & do the examples during class and your hw and you'll be fine! If you're intuitive then this class will be easy for you. Hw is optional and she will drop 3 of the lowest scoring tests for you. I actually really liked the class!
shes not receptive to questions and often her explinations are more confusing then the book so i had to teach myself most of the chapter. that being said shes very clear.
Not very helpful, about half of the class dropped out y the end of the quarter and even if you asked questions she would decline to answer some (most) questions if she believed that she already explained it. Homework, lessons, and test material are sometimes not the same. I retook the class with a different professor and it made all the difference.
Mostly easy class, but her accent is hard to understand during lectures and she kept standing in front of the screen. Homework is optional, but recommended. She will drop your lowest quiz grade too.
Pros:Her lectures are great. She is crystal clear, she will literally show 50 examples before you begin homework. Problems on the quizzes and tests are never a surprise. In addition the class structure is very organized, every Friday there will be a quiz and the only test you take is the final. Cons:she talk very quietly.
She's Frustrate me from the first week of the course. she never help at all, and still old fashion.
From my perspective, Galina has been so helpful to me and I really liked how organize she is with her lectures in class. I believe that students need to earn their loyalty from her by working hard and being on time to class each day. I always like the fact that she gives out quizzes every week, because it forces students to be in class.
I hope you can understand accents, because that is probably the biggest thing with Kashinskaya. I didn't actually mind her teaching style at all. She moves fast, but stay awake and pay attention and you will be fine. If you do your homework you'll be ok. By the end of the quarter, her subtle Russian sense of humor showed which was appreciated.
AMAZING teacher. I don't know why people hate her! her teaching style is very clear and it is so easy to understand her material. Just show up for class, do what she asks you to and you will get an A.
Really nice and smart teacher. She knows what she's doing and teaching. She'll gladly help after class. Tough grader on tests. Homework only encouraged.
This class wasn't so bad. You really have to pay attention because her accent is hard to understand. Also If you zone out or skip class you won't pass the weekly quizzes because you cover so much in one day. I did expect this class to be harder. About 90% of the material was Algebra 3/4. Sometimes it seems she doesn't know how to answer questions.
Currently taking Galina. Despite all the negative reviews, she is one of the best math teachers at BC. Clear and straight to the point. Moves fast. Most of the info is from algebra 2. Although she does have an accent, it is very understandable. Grading isn't tough (I got the wrong answer but correct steps and still recieved points). Take her!
Galina is a really good teacher, super clear, explains everything really well, nothing left to doubt. Faint accent, nothing major, softish voice-SIT UP FRONT. Never, ever Ever skip class. alway do the hw she gives, it's a lifesaver. Amazing teacher but grader from hell. Test just once a week, ten total. Be tough on yourself she'll be easy on you.
She has a thick accent, which could deter some, but she was clear and to the point. We had a quiz every week, but it was only on a week's worth of work. The homework wasn't due for credit, but be sure to do it or you won't pass the test. Her class was structured, and she had a clear schedule and consistent teaching methods, making it easy to learn
She is an excellent teacher and makes you work, explains Math very clearly and doesn't move on until everyone understands. If you have problems with math, or pretty much anything else, she will inundate you with ways to resolve the issue(s). I believe she's the best Math teacher I've come across & If I don't pass this time, I'll take it again.
Talk about a horrible teacher! I can get passed the thick accent and the soft voice, but not the condescending put-downs she writes on her student's quizzes. Only after one quiz and I felt discriminated against. No teacher should write "You should be in a lower-lever class" on any student's exam. Especially only during the first week of class.
Galina does have thick accent but you get used to. She is extremely thorough in teaching lessons and goes over a lot of examples before you leave. She is always open to questions. Very organized, gives a test each week and then has them graded the next class! Do all the homework and do not skip! Take this class!! And study for the final!
I really didn't like her. She was literally a talking textbook. She walks in, starts doing examples from the textbooks, then says bye. Like if I wanted to do those examples I wouldn't show up to class and just copy the questions from the textbook. You do get credit for showing up. Only tested on wee kelt quizzes/tests. She wasn't clear nor nice.
She was fantastic, clear and concise. Classwork and homework come out of the text. so if you miss a concept in class (which she covers thoroughly) you can use book and check work for more practice. I like working out of a book not online. She acknowledged that there is a digital textbook we can use and practices online. Polite and approachable.
I took summer QT class. Thick accent, but you get used to it and it's really not a problem. Clearly outlined syllabus with homework. Points based off 1 test a week and the final. The final wasn't too hard, but I definitely studied for all tests. She graded fair. I would take her again, she taught well and made use of the book.
Couldn't understand her.
She has a very thick accent, but you get used to it. All of your grade is based off of 9 tests (she drops your lowest score) and the final, but she outlines what each test covers the day before. She will give you points for trying even if you get the wrong answer. You do have to show up every day, but if you like consistency you will love her class
This professor is very straight to the point. She covers the concepts throughly and gives out examples to work on during class. The main problem with this professor for me is that she was rude. When i did poor on the first quiz she wrote a note on my paper saying i should take a lower level math class.
Galina teaches by the book. She gives quizzes every week, but they're easy as long as you know the material. Homework is optional and not graded but its great to do so you learn the material. If there's a problem you don't understand, she reviews it the next class. She does get somewhat impatient, but its not as bad as some people say.
There is nothing great about her. She gets mad if you ask questions and she can be dismissive. She's so rude.
She has clear grading criteria & a well laid out schedule so when you go to class you know exactly what you will be doing. A bit scary in her demeanor, but not hard to talk to. Quizzes and midterms don't have surprise questions, what you see in the homework is what to expect on tests. Final was very reasonable- 25 questions, 1 on each book section
Galina is the worst teacher I have ever had in my academic career. She is nearly impossible to understand. Her grading is incredibly tough and she frequently puts undecipherable marks on tests. Any student who dared ask a question was berated by her, often for minutes at a time. Awful, awful teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She clearly outlines the course and lets you know what is expected of you however she is not available outside of class, is poor at explaining problems students have difficulty understanding and offers no extra credit. Almost all of the class time is spent with her giving lectures. Terrible in class experience, would not recommend.
If you passed previously levels of math easily, this class will be a breeze. The homework is not graded so I never did it and got an A in the class. However if you have a hard time with math I would not recommend her. The class is very lecture heavy and your grade relies on attendance, about ten tests, and the final.
she has a very heavy accent and is hard to understand. She can sound very mean and abrupt at times because of her accent. She has a test every week and it takes a lot of work to do well on these tests.
Absolutely awful. No enthusiasm or sense of humor whatsoever. Very hard to understand. Refused to enter grades into Canvas until the last possible day of the quarter- we were told to calculate our own grade. Ridiculously difficult tests. She got mad when students would ask questions... in a math class. Pathetic. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Galina was the first math professor I had at Bellevue and probably the worst I've ever had in my life. She's disrespectful, unintelligible and incredibly unwelcoming. If you have the misfortune of taking this class prepare to study hard. I recommend visiting the academic success center for tutoring as she will be of little assistance outside class
Galina has been one of the most caring math professor. She takes time to explain every problem in class. She give great feedback and advice how to impove . One of the best math professor at Bellevue College.
Galina is the worst instructor Ive ever had in my 15+ years of education. She has absolutely no passion, personality, or sense of humor. She is the closest thing to a robot Ive ever encountered. She explains concepts horribly. She gets mad when students ask questions... so people in my class stopped asking questions. Being in her class was awful.
Very strict on time, DO NOT BE LATE. Also come to class because she teaches something new everyday. Tests are based on homework. Do homework every day and come to class and its not too hard.
She was the worst teacher Ive ever had, she was impossible to understand, went through 2 lessons a day and didnt explain anything. too much of the work was individual, only quizzes were graded. By the end of the quarter half the students had dropped out or stopped showing up! Do not take this class
I took her daily class from 8:30 to 9:20, and she is strict on being late. Textbook she used was Robert Blitzer 6th edition. Very strict on grading. Her class is structured so that you go over 1 or 2 sections per day, and have a quiz every friday. Quizzes and Final exams are the only grades. Doesn't grade HW. Do HW and quizzes will be easy.
The secret to getting an A in this class is to copy every problem she writes on the board into your notes. I never did the assigned homework; I only practiced (over and over) the problems she wrote on the board. I never felt unprepared for a quiz and I got an A in the class. For this reason, you must be present every day.
I took her back in 2017. Test every week and homework everyday but there wasn't a lot of work. She was open to questions and very helpful.
Lecture only. Attend class every day, copy ALL the classwork (avg 1pg classwork, 1pg homework/day) and know how to ask specific questions about what you dont know. Quiz every FRiday on material covered during the week. No surprises. Shes available to help during class but only has online office hours. I wish I could take her for every class tbh.
She's incredibly hard to understand because of her accent. She's also very monotonous and could not be more boring.
Wont answer your questions no matter what.
Lectures can be very confusing and unclear not because of her accent but because she doesn't explain much. Don't expect to learn something from classes. I recommend you to study a lot on your own. The quizzes are not too hard as long as you get the concepts and know how to solve basic, essential problems.
This teacher is so so serious, not one time this quarter did i see this teacher laugh or smile. However, she is incredibly prepared, she knows her material, and teaches it efficiently. Her expectations are clear, her homework is reasonably regimented. In the end, you get the grade you deserve. The most capable math teacher I've had thus far.
She is just about the worst math teacher I have had. Math has been my favourite subject since I can remember and this class made me hate it. Her grading rubric for the quarter is only based on 10 tests and 1 final, no extra credit and no homework marks. Her lectures are terrible, heavy accent, no regard to understanding. Dont take her at all
She is the worst math teacher I have ever had. Basically, she teaches a unit everyday and gives you a test every friday. The only thing she grades are tests, (10 tests, 100 points each), a final (230 points) and participation(100 points). To get an A in her class you have to get 1230 points which is nearly imposisble. She will drop one test.
Poor lecturing skills
Absolutely horrible teacher, would pay to not go to her class. Made me so unmotivated that it was the first time i got A- in a class, because it was just so painful. There were no online practice activities like I had with my previous calculus class, the cut off for an A was a cruel 95.4, and lose all points on test question when just small mistake
Galina doesn't smile or laugh in class. She doesn't like it when you ask questions. If you mess up a little on a test you lose all the points. She assigns homework every night but doesn't grade it. Your entire grade is based on your test scores, final, and participation points. I wouldn't recommend taking her class.
Although she is hard to hear because of her accent, if you are a visual learner, all of class she basically shows examples on the board. If you copy them down and do all the homework you will pass with flying colors.
Galina is a great professor. I took her class online during COVID-19, her notes were clear and concise. The class is homework heavy and the tests are timed. If you missed your homework, you won't pass your tests or your final. I spent a lot of time on this class even though it was MATH142.
Although the contents of the course are clear, she will not let you earn points easily. She set tricky test and exam. She will not give you the chance to makeup any test. I got 83% for all my work, but I got D+ and failed the class. I was so shocked. I got myself together, and I emailed her asking how could this be explained. Highly not recommended
Ms. Kashinskaya was not helpful in class at all. There were zero lectures or videos to explain the notes she provided and gave no sympathy to students who didn't understand the material. The online textbook question help taught me more than she did.
For online learning there were never any lectures posted & the notes were confusing, at least to me they were. when I forgot about a homework and emailed her about it, she gave me a chance to do it for full credit probably because it was online. overall the class was kinda just meh. i am someone who normally does amazing in math but i didn't here
At the time I was taking this class there wasn't any lectures. Notes were confusing. Tests weren't marked on your canvas calendar, but was announced the day before. If you're forgetful like me, you'll fail. Grades are calculated at the end of the quarter (careful of this).
Galina's class was certainly different from what I expected. To start off there were not any lectures or anything like that so you got to learn from the book a lot. There were no office hours and you'll never see her/hear from her. There were 7 tests + a final but they were all just like the homework. Study the hw and you'll be fine.
There was no lectures or videos to help students with the material. I had to literally learn everything from the textbook with no help from the instructor. I still got an A, but it was merely because I studied the textbook. Tests are based on the homeworks, and the tests aren't announced until a day prior. Everything is on MyMathLab.
Easily the worst professor I have taken at Bellevue College, by far. It feels like what I imagine a class in the 30s would feel like. Strict (not in a good way), and will call you out in front of the entire class if you ask questions or fiddle with something even if it is not distracting at all. I have never seen this teacher smile ever. AVOID!
I'll give her this, her tests are easy that's why I took her again for Math 142. But the notes she gives are a little difficult to understand. Also... I DISLIKE HOW SHE IS SO BROAD WITH EVERYTHING! She would also randomly say that there is a quiz... sometimes on the day of the quiz and it's easy to forget with her instructions that there is a quiz.
Easily the worst professor this school employees. Refuses to teach, not accommodating at all, makes students feel like crap, lies & wont give partial credit if you get 90% of the problem right she will still give a zero. She is absolutely the horrible. She relies on Pearson to do her ENTIRE job-wont even input your grades. Super lazy and entitled
probably one of the worst educators ive encountered in my life. she is extremely rude and hasnt taught a single day. she relies on a third party vendor to supply hw and tests and then collects a paycheck for doing literally nothing. also unreasonable when you ask her to update your grade based on a computer error. She sets students up for failure
this isnt a teacher-she is a glorified PROCTOR. Never once did she provide any instruction/guidance the entire quarter. Worst of all- she assigns hw and due on HOLIDAYS where the rest of campus is closed. I asked her to update my grade in pearson b/c my calculation was correct & there was a glitch & she just ignored me. avoid if you want to learn
only take her if youre looking to fail. look at the other reviews - she does NOTHING and is irritated and refuses to be gracious or helpful when asked. Wasted my money, time, and brain power in this excuse of a class. Im transferring schools in the fall because this is who BC employs
She doesn't accept late assignments, allow make up tests, give extensions, or provide any sort of extra credit assignments. We're in the middle of a pandemic and she doesn't have an ounce of compassion for her students and she makes it clear from day one. She didn't input grades the entire quarter either so it will be a surprise after the quarter
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Thank god the quarter is over. I cant put into 300 characters why a student should avoid her but I can say she is the perfect example of the type of person who should never be a teacher. She's rude, absent, & doesnt know anything about math. I should have made a donation to khan academy instead of paying tuition and her salary
I waited until after the quarter to write this as I was fearful she would find out and fail me. She wasnt available for help all quarter despite my numerous emails and she never taught a class or gave a lecture once. Math is extremely difficult to teach to yourself so even though I passed (cheated) I have to retake the course. Avoid at all costs
Professor offers no instruction other than posting overhead notes. There are no videos of her teaching the material or synchronous classes. This is the worst professor I have ever had. Beware if you take this class prepare to study the textbook and get hammered on testing for minor mistakes as the computer grades everything.
I should have listened to the reviews here ---- she is terrible. no lectures, no actual teaching. She doesnt offer help or explanation to anything. everything is self taught and she refuses to adjust the grade from MML. Avoid her if you need to learn anything. BC should be embarrassed of this representation. Dropping for sure
Quarters unfinished, lowest test score gets dropped. Overall, its true she doesnt teach but notes didnt seem confusing to me like others say. As for not knowing your grades/ test dates, MyMathLab has a calendar/ grade book to check both. Syllabus also has calendar of test/ hw dates + if it says HW is due at 9pm instead of 11 its test day.
I took this class asynch., and I basically had to teach it to myself because the teacher was no help. The notes were impossible to follow and there were no instructions for how to access or use the textbook. I emailed her about changing a test grade, and it took 10+ emails to get a clear answer, and when I asked for help she said "study harder".
I took this class for credit, and it definitely wasn't supposed to be my highest priority class. However, every single day, I had to take notes, teach myself math, and then move onto the homework assignments. It was very time consuming, and I barely had time throughout the day for the rest of my classes. You will teach yourself so good luck.
This class is stupid. She doesn't do anything, but post stupid notes with even wrong information. The MathLab website is also creepy, your test will instantly get canceled if you have technical issues, and she doesn't help at all. Sometimes I even doubt whether the professor is still alive or not, since everything is done by the program.
Teacher isn't willing to answer questions about test materials and homework through email, and you honestly have to teach yourself everything because her notes are messy and barely make any sense. I took her last quarter for Math141 and thought it was okay, but this class was absolutely horrible and took up so much of my time.
This professor works very well with proactive students who study well on their own. She responded to my few emails in a timely manner, and the software used for access to the textbook and homework/ tests was easy to use. She doesn't provide lectures, but does offer detailed notes. The software used was MyLab, and there was one extra credit quiz.
Hw due at 11pm, no late work-not even by a second. Miss a few and grade goes down a lot. 95% for an A(4.0). Doesn't teach, must teach and read yourself. No help at all. If you need a good grade, don't take. No extra credit. 200pt HW, 600pt tests, 200pt final exam-grading system. Not based on total points but % on assignment converted to "points".
HW and tests assignment on random days, no pattern. HW due at either 9 or 11pm, must check everyday. Must teach yourself. Tests due at 10pm. No extra credit. Canvas is barely used and terrible set up. Technical issues on tests = 0%. Automatic 0% on late work. If you know how to use MyMath to its fullest, you'll do ok, but she doesn't help with it.
She grades on x/1000 points. The lowest test scores is dropped, but not from missed tests or the final. Doesn't offer recorded lectures, just the occasional outdated notes attachment that hardly goes over the lesson from the textbook. Prepare to learn entirely by yourself, at the pace of the automated MyLab assignments.
laziest, most unprepared, selfish, rude teacher I have ever encountered. She doesn't teach. She doesn't care. And she shouldn't be able to teach. She will post pdf's of notes that look like they're from 05. She won't adjust errors made my Pearson and screws over your grade. A TA or basic algebra tutor could teach better than her. Heck, a rock could
DO NOT TAKE COURSES FROM THIS INDIVIDUAL IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER OPTION. Professor Kashinskaya not only routinely ignored/discounted my requests for help and or resources, but also belittled me on top of it.
Barely communicated when I needed help on homework assignments and never talked to the class. Only gives out notes that don't fully explain the lesson. Had an unfortunate accident and asked for an extra day for an assignment/test and never responded back.
Didn't help with any problems I had. Didn't want to comply with accommodations. Randomly rearranged assignments to make them due sooner. Regret taking this class
Not recommended
Everything is pretty much self-taught on Pearson app. She provides notes for every lesson but they're a mess to read. If you do the homework, you'll most likely see it on the tests w/ the exception of a few curveball problems.
Instructor absolutely does not teach the class or even use Canvas to properly structure it. There are NO lecture videos. She only sends out announcements every few days to read a chapter and do the homework. Provided notes were messy photos of a whiteboard. Was very curt and rude in email communications. Was unwilling to work with accommodations.
If you want to teach yourself math, take this class. Final was in person, cumulative and quite hard. Found this class harder than most of my upper division calc classes. No interaction from professor and can't remember if she even had office hours. If you cant learn on your own, avoid. The only class I ever got a B in...
If you do not know anything about pre calc do not take her class. if you need a lecture do not take her class. she only "teaches" via the textbook and notes she makes herself. there are around 4 hw assignments a week and 1 exam a week. everything is graded via pearson and not her. would not recommend if you are attempting to learn something.
Took it online and it was abysmal. When asking for partials for tests that didn't inherently have a show work clause, she said, "I can't change the test you took, do your best later on." I know the concepts extremely well, the way her grading system is is meant for failure. She also never uses Canvas for grades and you have to guess on Pearson.
Tough class, you'll have to teach yourself the material. Professor is hands-off and unhelpful. Grading is strict, with no late work or extra credit. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for studying and practice. If you're an independent learner, you may do well, but this class is not for everyone.
