Mr. Henderson is really funny! Really enjoyed his class. His class isn't really that hard. Just read the book and come to class and you will do fine.
This teacher does not give you back tests so you can never correct what you need. At the end of the semester, he changed grades on some of his favorite students. Do not take this guy - you never know what grade you are going to get.
He's pretty easy but unclear on most things.
I don't think he is a bad teacher, but for the quizzes and test, make sure to read the chapters because the tests are unpredictable.
His lectures are most of the time interesting because he likes to include the class. Make sure to do an exhaustive read of the chapter though because the notes don't really help for studying for tests and he LOVES to include little bitty details that any normal person would forget.

he is an amazing teacher. I passed his class. he's awesome.
I hated going to class because we always talked about nothing related to the textbook. He only used test-bank material, so you had to carefully study on your own. Boring,.. when i would talk to him he had little help to offer me regarding the material
Henderson provides the class with his hands on learning experiences he has encountered through a correctional facility. He maintains class interests as well as encourages class input.
He makes your life hard.. He teaches from his experiences. Had a major emergency the day of finals, had to produce several pieces of evidence to support leaving. (even though taken by ambulance).
MR. HENDERSON SOMETIMES HAS OPEN BOOK QUIZES. PARTNER-UP QUIZES. EASY EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT. IN CLASS VIDEO QUIZES. GOOD TEACHER OVERALL.
Easy. fun. don't make the class boring. open book quizes and sometimes on the tests too. even if u miss a couple classes easy to catch up. gives notes that are directly off the test or on the quizes. even get watch a couple of movies too. Just read the chapter for bonus questions hint: in boxes!! or introduction. Dont be late a lot. should get A-B.
intresting
Great person, and many points opportunity to raise up your grade if you miss class. He is very generous with your scores just don't come to class late and make sure to have lots of scantrons ready. The tests are easy since he quizes and gives you the reviews before hand.
GREAT TEACHER!!! HE ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING BOUT! HIS STORIES ARE VERY INTERESTING!!!!!
Awesome teacher!
everyone thinks that he is amazing.. he is NOT. he makes stuff up and tells the same dumb stories every class. he is NOT consistent in his grading AT ALL!! do not take him. he may seem cool but he is sooo not.
Great Professor!!!
Great Teacher...I would definatley recommend him. Easy to enjoy his course. Learned alot and it was almost effortless.
He is a very good teacher he knows what he is talking about. Just make sure you go everyday because he gives quizzes almost everyday. Also make sure you have scantons ready because on some of the quizzes you have to use them. Overall I really liked his class interesting stories. Take him you will like him.
OUTSTANDING!!!! My hats-off to this professor!!! If he can teach a "rock" such as myself......you KNOW he's GOOD!!! Once you realize you are responsible for your work, and mommy and daddy can't make you pass anymore... and you show up for class... You will do FINE!! I Highly recommend his course. EBS
I had no interest in Sociology, but enjoyed this class. He leads the class in interesting discussions, & assigns projects that make you want to learn a bit more about the subject. I HIGHLY recommend Garrison Henderson for Intro. to Sociology. The work load for the class is steady, but not overwhelming.
Good teacher! There is a lot of reading in this class to do well on quizzes and tests, because he doesn't really talk about the material in class. He mostly speaks from his own experience working in prisons and it's interesting. Sometimes he will randomly make a quiz worth 2 or 3 grades, so if you are absent that day, you are screwed.
Ton of reading, quizzes, 4 projects and exams. If you miss 1 class you could be tatooed. Paperwork in Summer Overwhelming - but an excellent teach - I learned a ton and highly recommend if you do not mind doing the work - he doesn't mess around - He is a great teacher
He's extremely easy, and a great teacher. Everything is very clear, he is helpful and his stories about when he worked in the prisons are interesting. Defently not a boring class. As long as you show up do what your asked and try you will pass his class. He's such a great teacher I'm taking another one of his classes in the fall.
Wonderful teacher! Very easy class. Lots of classroom participation and opinion.. no presentations. Used book for the reviews and whatevers on the review is on the test. Watched some movies towards the end.. made a few good friends from group work and participation. Great class, would definitely sign up for him if he taught a different subject.
He does have great stories and knows alot. However, his left wing side comes through WAAAAAY to much for a college professor. Projects were a little much but we did have free range on the topic which was nice. I would take him again just wish he would have kept personel opinions out of class.
This teacher was okay just when you really needed help I don't think he was helpful. There were entirley to many quizzes. He is very sarcastic at times. There is a lot of classroom particpation. Overall I would never take him again. I can't judge him for no one elese I passed the class but he can be sometimes rude.
4 tests, 20 quizes, 2 projects, and a 10 page term paper. talks about 30 percent on material related to the class and 70 percent and random story's about his Correction officer job. doesn't explain assignments well and very cocky. Big Ego.
I thought he was a descent professor. We did have quite a few tests and many quizzes; however, it's college. We had to read a lot, but again it's college. As long as you participate and give him intelligent feedback, the more enjoyable his class will be. Funny guy, great character, and in my opinion - easy course.
the tests were extremely hard the reviews were absolutely no help there are like 20 quizzes 2 projects and a 10pg term paper half his lectures dont even cover the text he is a interesting teacher but i would not take him again. to stressful of a class and he assigns way to much work.
Good, interesting, and funny professor. You will have to work for your grade. There are 4 tests, 3 projects, and 20 quizzes (the quizzes CANNOT be made up NO EXCEPTIONS; the lowest 2 are dropped). Attend every class; read the chapters BEFORE each quiz and test; do the test reviews; follow all the project instructions, and you will do great.
He is a great teacher. I had a lot of fun in his class. He is very helpful when you have questions and he is always willing to help you when he can. He does have a lot of quizes. Other than that his class is easy.
He was amazing! I really enjoyed his class. Sometimes went off on off subject topics but I think that's every professor these days! His tests were pretty easy if you went to class, paid attention, and looked over the review he sent you. I would take him again for one of his other classes!
I highly recommend finding another professor for this course. Classroom discussions are almost always off-topic, he "lectures" about 10% of the content he tests over (the student is required to teach themselves from the book).. If you are looking for intellectual stimulation, look elsewhere.
Very interesting class. Prof. Henderson has previously held a job as a corrections officer, so he is very knowledgeable in many areas relating to sociology and criminal justice. He leads the class in interesting discussions. There are a lot of quizzes, but they're usually not difficult. The tests are okay if you study. I recommend him.
Mr. Henderson is a cool cat. This class is mainly discussion, which are the best ones. No need to buy the book, as he has powerpoints on shared files you can print out and study. The quizzes are easy, and they are exactly like the tests. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Easy A. He uses pro athletes for a lot of comparisons, which can get boring!
class is over all easy...as long as you continue to check shared filed everyday for take home quizzes and assigments you will do fine, he talked alot about his job in the prison he worked in,but i didnt mind becasue im a cj major...his test are a pain, but over i will recommend his class to all students having to take soci 1301...

Mr. Henderson was an amazing teacher, he has so many personal life experiences from his career in the prison systems and elsewhere that it really opened our eyes, made it more realistic and very interesting. This is a very intriging course and is extremely facinating. He is a very outgoing and informative, funny person, enjoyed this class alot!
Prof. Henderson is a cool cat. Show up to class and he gives a lot of life experiences. Tests are easy if you study his reviews. Quizzes are sometimes book driven and sometimes not. Willing to work with you. There is a group project, but he is lenient when it comes to grading. Is also awake in the morning class, so don't think it's a quiet one.
He is funny, and loves talking, but has attitude. In my class no one knew how to answer his question and he got mad with us, when we tried to ask what he meant, he sent us all home MORE THAN ONCE! Also, the last half of the semester it's mandatory to make a 2 minute speech about a topic every class. Take another prof if you hate talking in class.
He is nice and easy going. The class is discussion oriented so it keeps you awake usually. He lets you speak your mind about anything. Sometimes I feel like its too discussion oriented and we don't learn much but just talk about stuff. At the end of the semester everyone gives a two minute speech on two different days about anything. Easy class.
Every week you take an online quiz over the chapter reading and also post on the discussion board about a topic (he gives you a hundred on it no matter what). The tests are online and he lets you take it twice so its a super easy class. But it did get annoying when for like 6 weeks straight all we talked about was racism.
He's an AWESOME teacher. He explains his material very clearly and is willing to answer questions. He is really helpful and wants you to pass and do well. He takes participation grades! I had missed a few classes in a row because of work, and he worked out a way for me to make up what I missed and was very understanding. I HIGHLY recommend him!!!
Easy professor if you do the work tests can be difficult if you don't read the chapters but it seems every subject is based on race which was quite annoying
He is a great professor!!! I have his class at 7 in the morning and it is still my favorite class. He's funny and relatable and makes everything super clear and easy to understand. I'm learning really interesting things in his class! :))))
Moderate tests, easy quizzes and discussion boards although he was never clear on how many responses you needed to post (I did 3 and got full credit every time). There were 2 scholarly article assignments. He gave a clear format to follow so it wasn't bad at all. Had a problem submitting an assignment and never could reach him about the issue.
Great Class, Great Teacher.
Great teacher and real easy going, I love the lectures! As long as you stay on top of your work and take notes over the chapters you read you will do fine in his class .
Very clear on his material, Positive and Really cool laid back fellow. Likes for his students to participate during in class discussions. There were quizzes/tests both (online & in class). Discussion boards referring to his lectures on Blackboard & group projects. justShow up & Do work You will succeed in his course. I def recommend! He's thorough!
Go to class. Do the quizzes online, do the tests online with a group of people. I mean honestly, if you do it with a group, it will be super fast. This is such an easy A.
This class was super easy. Tests were online, 2 group presentations, and a few quizzes over the chapters from the book. He's funny, gives good knowledge behind the material, but he is not that helpful. Study for tests and quizzes and you'll be fine.
Funny at times. Laid back, but don't abuse it.
Syllabus for online class was wrong and hard to locate. Dates not updated for assignments. Unclear on content for tests. LOTS of reading. I felt lost a lot of the time, but I managed an A because I tried harder. Had to track down information in strange places.
I took Mr. Henderson's sociology class as my first online class. Easy syllabus to understand. There are several quizzes online, discussion boards and you have to respond to at least one other persons discussion boards. Also we had to write an research paper in APA format over anything to do with sociology. I would totally take his class again.
I'm taking this class online and the book is required but not needed. Very easy class. I was able to do his assignments for the week in 2 days or less. Mainly discussion boards and weekly quizzes. Timed quiz but can take multiple times but graded for the average not the highest score. Takes a little long in posting grades but I don't mind.
He is absolutely awesome! He gives a good amount of homework and only a handful of test. He does drop some lowest grades (for our class it was test) and participation is key. It also helps to show up to class since he will often go over material with you guys and answer questions directly.
Online tests and quizzes, you can easily use quizlet. There are group presentations, fairly easy but if you slack, then you won't pass. Online discussion boards, every week. Not bad, but wouldn't take again.
Took during the summer 2018. VERY EASY, All answers are on quizlet, there are discussion boards, and quizzes and 2 papers. got a EASY A. TAKE HIM. hes pretty chill.
This was a easy online class. I liked it. you literally dont need the textbook. you can google all the answers. all of the answers are on quizlet. easy class.
He is hilarious and his wit makes his class worth coming too. His quizzes and tests are all online, however, his major quizzes and the final are in class. Even though textbook use is low, you need to read it n order to study for major quizzes and the final. I absolutely loved his class and I would definitely take any of his classes again.
Would not recommend him for online Intro to Sociology. Halfway through the semester he removed the DB prompts and made it a "post-first" DB, any question I had was met with a one sentence reply that came off as very condescending. I've had more enjoyable online courses.
I took his class for a summer online class. Super easy. No reason why you should not get an A.
Took a class of his for summer, his lectures were interesting and made the class worth coming to, very knowledgeable and great class to learn from, would take again.
Best online class ever! Read a chapter, take a quiz, and post on a discussion board per week, everything is due on Sunday at 11:30PM. Dr. Henderson is great, absolutely no complaints.
Dr. Henderson was definitely one of my favorite professors. He made a 9:30am class not hard to go to. I always looked forward to going to his class! He is super passionate about what he teaches and you can definitely tell by his lectures. This class is an easy A, take it!!! You'll have a few group projects to do, but they're super easy.
Took this class online, quizzes and tests weren't bad. 2 journel article projects were kind of annoying, but didn't take me too much time. He wasn't a very tough grader on the discussion boards or the 2 journel article projects, which was nice. Reading the chapters was boring, but what textbook isn't.
I would not take this class again. Dr. Henderson's teaching style consists of talking about broad subjects the entire class that don't even really relate to sociology. If you rely on a good lecture to pass a class, don't take this class.
Easy grader, and helps you on whatever you need. Communicate with him on everything. The work is pretty easy if you just read.
Very easy and really cares about his students!
Dr. Henderson is a fun professor and if you want an easy A I'd recommend you take his class. All of his tests are easy and online except the final. He's awesome and cares about you.
I took this class as a 2 week class in May. It wasn't difficult by any means but there were a lot of assignments for this being a 2 week class. We had 12 quizzes, 12 discussion boards, 4 tests, and 3 journal articles. For me personally it was just too much work for such a short amount of time. I would suggest maybe taking as a full semester class.
Took this during the summer. Super easy. You need the textbook for DB, quizzes and tests, but you don't necessarily need to read each chapter. I found the textbook online for free. Drops 2 quizzes, 1 test. EVERYTHING was on quizlet. Earning almost 100% on quizzes allowed me to BS the journal articles and still get a really high A. Take this class!
Took this class online and was disappointed. Easy A, but got 60s on assignments and wasn't told what could be done to improve later on so I kept getting 60s. Grading criteria unclear in assignments and generally just worded very confusing. Other than that, pretty easy class. Read, quiz, and you're done.
Dr. Henderson was my best teacher at TCC this semester. He has a very clear and strong voice and is very intelligent in his field. His weekly homework was regular with no surprises, and anyone can pass his class if you participate and read. He drops some test grades and allows open note tests. Overall, a great professor.
Quiz each week about 25 questions, 50-60 for the test. Easy discussion board posts, all quiz info to help study is available easily. Don't need the textbook, you don't need to watch the lectures unless you want, thought they were a waste of time imo.
Took this during COVID and was a semi easy class. Just a quiz each week that was only proctored by recording the screen. Pretty easy though, it only took me like 20 min to get through all the work for the week.
1 or 2 discussion boards and quizzes weekly
Great class! If youre passionate ab SOCI but dont want excess work TAKE HIM. Easy A while still learning. Replies fast. No extra credit but lowest test & 2 quizzes dropped. 12 ch, 1 quiz proctored & DB for each but easy! 3 tests 1 final. All questions are from quizzes. 10/10. Took online in a 5 week wouldve been too easy if it was a 8 or 16 week
Professor Henderson's class was ok. There were discussion boards, and quizzes every week. Sometimes discussion boards were class activities. Alot of tedious work but it wasnt too bad. Doesnt really lecture, just asks questions so expect to participate. Tests were easy, just do the reviews.
Dr. Henderson is the best prof I've had at TCC! He's passionate about sociology & is a REAL teacher. Lecture is discussion driven. You'll learn more if you participate. Open note quiz and discussion board every week, some in class. 3 papers, 1 due the week of each test. Tests & final use same questions. Keep up with the reading to pass & TAKE HIM!!
He has a serious case of inflated academic ego. Not at all relatable and honestly kind of an a**. His class was very easy albeit boring. There was Lots of reading & Long boring videos watched in class.
Talks about random things that will never be on any assignments. Quizzes are over things he assumes you know, use Google it's your only hope. He will tell you book is required but none of the quiz or test questions come from it, Google it. He will also give you one grade then change it so ALWAYS screenshot assignment gradeswhen they are taken.
His in person class requires you to watch RECORDED lectures at home while he spends class time having useless discussions about his life story and little debates that have nothing to do with our tests. It defeats the purpose of in-person classes. We never go over anything useful in class. Very frustrating when you want to actually learn.
10/10 professor. Although if you don't read your book you will fail. He talks a lot about his life but the talks help in a different way. Easy class, fun lectures.
Professor was great but most of test material is found in the recorded lectures, PowerPoints, and textbook. Coming to class seemed pointless but there are in class assignments that will count for that week's grade. The other assignments were again based on things done in class, they are meticulous but aren't hard. 2 major projects in the semester.
Such a weak and all over the place educator. He loves to go on random tangents about his personal life that has nothing to do with the material and then subsequently expects us to be ready for random quizzes and discussion boards that have criteria he barely touched on. Attendance IS REQUIRED btw and he is very petty in responding to emails.
I love this teacher. He was very interactive with his students. Always had a review kahoot before any exam with basically all the answers on it. All his homework was simple.
He's a pretty good professor. I would say is do the work and you can make a A, but don't doubt the tests even though they are about 15%.
Caution: Opting for this professor's in-person class entails an excessive load of time-consuming and unneeded discussion boards and assignments. Feedback on your grades is nonexistent, and the outdated rubrics fail to align with current student needs. Skip purchasing or returning the textbook; it's unnecessary.
He wasn't very clear on any criteria he covered. He failed to grade an analysis I kept bugging him to grade and took him 3 weeks to finally grade. He makes the classroom respond to what he is talking about, which is good, but then spends all class talking about one thing, not getting anything we need to cover and completely bypass.
Easy class overall, dont buy the textbook, he always posts a kahoot review for the tests but his discussions are all over the place.
Henderson is OK. only reason I give him 4 is because of how easy his class is, canvas quizzes are easy and all you need for exams is his kahoot because half the questions are on there which conveniently connect to the other half. As a prof he is decent, goes on tangents and is sometimes flat out wrong on stuff but do his work and you'll land ok.
The lectures are good, but they are never relevant to the assignments that week. He offers no additional info in the lectures. The instructions on Heavy weighted assignments can be ambiguous.
His class is super easy if you like sociology. He's funny and keeps it interesting every class. Might take some extra effort if you don't but you will pass for sure. all the tests are mostly the same as the kahoots and quizzes. Some research and analytical papers that are tedious but nothing too hard. You do not need the book so save your money!
This was by far the worst class I've taken here. Prof just yaps about random stories and never teaches in class. When he gives you a grade for something, he doesn't add any comment or a reason why he took off points. The only good thing was that he gave half of the answers on Kahoot for tests. It's manageable to make an A just very annoying.
I took this class in person. There are group projects and an individual presentation. He is very into himself. He will correct you if you don't say “DR” Henderson. He will pass around his dissertation to everyone wanting compliments. During your individual presentation he will question you and you have to defend your presentation. Not a HARD class.
The professor is kind and understanding but i feel he's better as an officer than a teacher in the nicest way possible. he's old fashioned and i feel like many videos we watch are very outdated and unrelatable to students, he gets annoyed if we ask for clarification on certain questions, class discussions are rigid, and there's lots of "group work"
