HE'S SO FUNNY!!!!!
This guy is right out of the movie teachers
This guy is awesome. Great professor, and funny as hell.
funny as hell and really wants his students to do well..
Hilarious, gets slightly boring towards end
My most favorite professor at the U of M.
A great professor, fun, engaging, helpful.
He is awesome
He's Great!
Gary's a great instructor, KNOWS his stuff, and makes it really interesting. He wants his students to do well and helps out any way he can. WOW a prof who actually cares!
THE COOLEST PROFFESSOR EVER!!!!
A fantastic prof. He should really be tenured.
He is conceited and thinks he's more intelligent than he is. If you are not a grade A student, then he doesn't have the time of day for you, because he must see himself as a wonderful teacher who only produces perfect straight A students.
GREATEST TEACHER EVER...the tests float all over the dorms beforehand...i only showed up for class on test days and i got an A in the class
After having an entire year of crappy professors at the U of M it was nice having Gary's class. He made the class entertaining to attend. It's a nice switch up from the professors who obviously don't know what they are talking about and don't have the personality to teach a class.
Very Easy class
You don't really need the book for his class. His tests are off what he teaches in class. So take good notes, but you don't really have to study them.
AWESOME!!!!
amazing professor. helps you out alot, probably the nicest person alive!
You watch awesome Jane Goodall movies, and he brings a chimpanzee into class.
He's hilarious, goes off on tangents, very intriguing and he is easy. He makes you want to be an Antrho major just so you can have more classes with him and have a perfect GPA. The class before his exams he goes through most of the answers. Don't waste money on the book, just take decent notes. This class is a must for all majors.
Garry is a great human being. Never miss a class because you might miss one of his wild stories. And don't buy the book because you'll never use it. I've heard of people changing their major to Anthropology just to take more classes with Kerr!
Great guy - contagious enthusiasm.
AWESOME!!!!!!!
Amazingly interesting, so fun; he's just great.
awesome
I cannot believe I am the first person to acknowledge Prof. Kerr's hotness. Seriously, his class is not to be missed. His outrageous personality tricks a student into paying attention to the subject matter.
Kerr is awesome and funny too. He knows his stuff
He's the hardest working, funniest prof. I've ever had. He's also one of the kindest, smartest, most adventerous men I know. And he's pleasent to look at too.
Yes, he's a great professor. Brilliant, funny, enlightening. He's also magnetically hot.
Great professor, very very enthusiastic about his job, and loves what he's doing.
Your the man gary kerr.. you gotta start teaching human sexuality again
Hes ok, he has alot of students so he doesn't like to help out.
Kerr is the Donald Sutherland character from Animal House - trying very hard to achieve oneness with students as nominal peers. I am here to learn something not get cozy with profs. My college experience is not enhanced because my prof is my pal. Kerr has alot to offer - he knows the subject - if he would be more Socrates and less Owen Wilson.
Kerr is the man!! He has a personality that makes you want to attend his class. He also doesnt change exams that much year to year and tells you to get buddy buddy with people in the greek system... since they have all the test files, and are a wonderful asset to have. I would love to take a class with Gary again
Gary Kerr is very interesting to listen to. He truly cares about the subject he teaches, and makes it fun and interesting. I recommend taking his ANTH 220 wintersession course.
Awesome, wonderful class, would reccomend to anyone!
Really cool/easy teacher. Class can get kind of boring b/c its a huge lecture hall & 1 hr 20 min class, but super easy class
Excellent!
What a dream boat:) I havent had a crush this engaging for years! He's brilliant with a tantalizing personality. He speaks so fluently with the subject matter the class time races by. MAGNIFICENT!
Kerr is hilarious, fun, exciting, and gives great examples in class. Passing the class is a breeze, since it is a 101 of course. He is very interesting and has had amazing experiences that he loves to share with the class.
Awesome. Super fun, exciting. The best professor I've had.
This class was easy, and interesting at times, but sometimes sitting through an hour and a half class was hard. Kerr will give some questions off the tests before he gives them which was nice, but then some of the test questions were things I had never heard of.. Overall I enjoyed this class, but still am slightly confused on some things he taught.
Great teacher, makes boring thing interesting. Has great experience and as long as you pay attention in class you will ace the tests.
Kerr is very entertaining, and allows for great discussions. He's also very understanding about having to miss class (at least in HC 120), and he brought lots of chocolate. Lots. Also, took us to Sushi Hana. Who can complain?
He is so full of knowledge and experience that his class was a joy to be in even though it was HUGE. I've taken other classes from him (Forensic Science and Food and Culture) and loved those as well, even though Anthro is no where near my major. His tests are easy and getting an A in the class is NOT hard.
I took this class 19 years ago, had no interest in it to begin with and loved it, it was my favorite class and he's still my favorite professor! I still remember a lots and chat with him at farmers market. He is very engaging and who else knuckle walks? Take one of his classes if you want to have fun and learn or if you have to fill a requirement!
he is so funny!
He's full of all kinds of crazy tangents that makes his classes very fun. He's more interested in his students enjoying the class than he is in making really hard exams.
Great professor, makes learning fun and interesting. If you actually go to class the tests are a breeze.
Really, really unimpressed, class was repetitive and testing/grading was a joke. Anyone could manage an A in that class in 2nd grade... Not college material. Disappointing, I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to raise their GPA, but if you want to learn something dont waste your tuition on this joke of a class--
Kerr made this class really unique because he teaches through personal experience. His eccentricity keeps things interesting. The tests are a total joke, which makes this class great for your GPA!
Don't buy the book! Didn't use it once. Get tests from the Greek system, they don't change. I attended class only occasionally and passed class with an easy A. Kerr is very interesting, entertaining and easy to listen to. Easy A to fulfill a general education requirement.
Kerr is an awesome professor. Great class, really enjoyed it. Worth taking for both an easy a, and because you can't help but really learn from him!
Before taking this class I only heard good things about Kerr. Once in the class I saw what a terrible teacher he is. Most the facts and information he gives students is incorrect, most the class is wasted on his personal life stories. I didn't pay to hear about what you did that one summer after high school, I paid for an education.
He is very interesting. I loved to go to his classes and he never put information on the exam that he did not cover in his class. I have taken food and culture and anthropology from him and loved them both!
Great lectures, nice man, good class.
I took the honors college section of this course and LOVED it! True, Kerr doesn't always stay on track, but that's part of what makes his class interesting and also it breaks up the monotony. Take the honors course if you get the chance, it is not "harder" than the regular sections.
professor Kerr is a very nice, humorous, and intelligent man. you can tell that he really wants his students to understand his lectures and take interest in the subject. you will get an A or a B in this class just by attending and paying attention. the book is not necessary if you go to class.
I took the honors section, and recommend it. Not harder than any other section-probably easier, if you end up with a different professor. You will get an A if you show up. His tests are easy, and you can tell it is because he cares more about getting info across and spreading his passion than giving a letter grade. Textbook not necessary at all.
Tells alot of stories, but doesn't really explain what's on the test. Very likable and entertaining professor.
Easy class...get tests from the greek system, he uses the same ones every year.
Kerr is a legend around campus known for his easy lectures. Maybe went to class twice and got an A. Tests are reused every year and nothin g he says in class will actually be on them unless its from a personal story of his. Lots of personal stories. Learned a lot though. Those that want to learn are welcome and those that dont can still get by
kerr is 1 of the best professors at UM if you ask me. you can tell he actually wants you to learn & take interest in the subject rather than defining students by his/her grades & attendance which is what college should be about! you dont have to go to this class to pass but seriously it's worth it. his stories will still stick with you years later.
Such a great professor. Always walks in with a smile on his face. Makes the material interesting. Tests are a breeze. Super-chill guy.
Kerr is such a great teacher! The tests are a breeze as long as you go to class and take notes. Always make sure that you attend the class before the exams because he will tell you a few of the answers that will be on the it. Super nice guy and as the others have said he is one of the best teachers on campus.
First time coming up to Montana, Professor Kerr was one of the nicest and yet brightest I've ever met in college. Exams are straight forward from the lectures. Sometimes he gives you the answers that will be on his exams. He does offer a lot of extra credit opportunities if you are struggling in his class or want to have a better grade.
I dislike this professor beyond extremes! He refuses to use a microphone so no one can hear him! Totally not worth my time! I was advised to take this class and totally regret it. I'm a straight A student but I managed to get D's on my tests. I don't recommend this class to anyone.
Professor Kerr not only presents his material in an informative way, but also in a way that makes food and culture class so much fun. He's hilarious too! He just needs to use a microphone.
Garry is probably the best teacher I had. Just go to class. He literally gives extra credit some days just because you showed up. His Food and Culture class is the class that all the athletes take....aka it's a very easy class. At the end of the semester he gives you an immense amount of extra credit opportunities, so it's hard not to get an A.
Kerr is the man!
Kerr is the man! Genuinely one of the nicest professors I will probably ever have. Great lectures, cares about his material, and students! Just to give you an indication of how easy his class is, the final for this class had 50 TF questions, and 46 of them were true. Asks you to buy a book, but reading really isn't needed at all to pass with an A
Garry is a great professor. His lectures are interesting and he has a wonderful personality! Take notes, study and you'll pass no problem.
Kerr is a great guy, with a whole bunch of useful knowledge. He makes the info that is going to be tested on very clear. I wouldn't buy the book if I were you. He speaks quietly, so get a close seat. Some might call him a rambling man, but his tests are a piece of cake. Easy A.
A very interesting class, however, sometimes Kerr would begin to ramble and students would walk out of lecture. You probably won't end up taking notes as you're never sure if what he's talking about he'd actually test you on (Kerr talks about his personal stories often). Don't bother buying the book, you'll do well without it.
Food and Culture - perfect freshman class. Easy, fun, and interesting!
If you go to his class it is really easy to pass. The only problem is his lectures are awfully boring and slow and miserable so it's almost impossible to convince yourself to go to the class. Most of his test answers are online on quizlets and he usually uses the same test each year so ask someone for their tests!
His class is insufferably boring. The most modern thing he's has ever layed fingers on is his VHS player (what he uses to play videos during lecture) He doesn't have a website, he gives no study guides for the tests, and no means of contact through email. His lectures are always in a monotone voice and hard to hear. Boring. Boring. BORING!!!
He has more experience than you could ever imagine. He does tend to get off-track and tell wild stories.
people mistake an easy class for a pointless class. professor kerr is so insightful, experienced, caring, & the examples he uses in class are actually relevant to real life situations. i have taken many higher level anthropology classes & still learned a lot from his lectures. if you get a chance to take a class from him you should.
Kerr is a great teacher who truly cares about the success of his students. He incorporates funny yet captivating cultural stories into his class, and presents material and assignments in a very clear and concise way.
I loved this class and I would look forward to going to it. Kerr is hilarious and I learned a lot. Participation isn't mandatory, but you'll wanna go because he's so funny. Don't buy the book! You will not use it.
I barely show up to class, he is quite boring to listen to and speaks very quiet. However, his class is a very easy science credit and you get extra for writing a short paper. I highly recommend if you are not a fan of science courses
very entertaining, wants his students to pass.
His lectures often get off topic and he tells weird stories. DON'T buy the book, it's a $80 waste. If you want to pass the tests, just show up and listen. Easy A, but I wouldn't have passed if I skipped class. There's only 3 tests but they're mostly true/false and you can find them on quizlet. He gave extra credit once for a paragraph on elephants.
Garry is awesome. Take this class.
I love this guy, his whole lecture is like a story and it makes it so easy to remember, as long as you write down some details like names and eras. He loves dogs a lot. If you leave early, be careful, he's told us at the very end of class specific questions and answers that will be on the test, and when he's going to give a "quiz" (AttendanceCheck)
Extremely boring only showed up on test days. Get tests from someone who has already taken it and they are almost identical.
Absolutely magical.
Get ready for story time.
Kerr is such a weird dude, but a great teacher! Make sure to go to lecture though or you will miss a lot. For the tests, all of them are on quizlet with the answers! Have fun
Favorite class. Amazing professor. Ask about his tortoise.
Lectures were not very interesting, but he would repeat things multiple times as a hint. Normally it will appear on the midterm exactly as he stated in lecture. Midterms were super easy, 1/4 of the question came from videos
This class was a mess. I'd recommend getting the book, because my success on exams depended heavily on it. Professor Kerr doesn't tend to make any sense or stay on topic, he is a weird guy and I didn't know what he was going on about half the time. His lectures were boring and discombobulated. He is a really interesting guy, just not a good prof.
The class isn't hard at all. Kerr is very funny. You can skip class as much as you want as long as you go to class the period before each test.
Super passionate professor. If you like funny stories, you'll really like the class. He has a ton of experience and he loves Jane Goodall.
great guy
Prof. Kerr is one of the most passionate professors I've ever had. His class is easy and filled with stories from his life adventures. The exams are not that bad. As a student, it's fun to see someone who really loves what they're doing.
This is an easy class to pass, but if you're looking to learn I would look somewhere else. He tells great stories, but most are only slightly applicable. If you like Jane Goodall or dogs this is the class for you!
Really great professor. Awesome class and fun to take even if not required.
His lectures are more about his life than the subject but very interesting. Dont buy the book. Lecture is dreadful but its the only way to get the material. Doesnt use moodle.
I don't think the University of Montana would be good at all, if it wasn't for professor's like Kerr, Domitrivich, and others that strive for student success, not failure. Without these professors, learning wouldn't be the same.
Take good notes, the tests for the course come from the lectures. In a large course like ANTY101H, attendance isn't mandatory, but make it a habit to go and get the easy A. I made the mistake of NOT going all the time, and got a B.
Please dont buy the book!! Lectures are dreadful in the sense that theyre his life stories, but are also very interesting. You HAVE to show up for the material. He gives you some answers. Show up every day, even though I probably took 10 pages of notes ALL semester. Hes a good guy, easy class, many tangents. (And dogs)
Need to really pay attention to the things he says doesnt use moodle
Hard to pay attention to a monotone teacher. Spend the whole semester trying to get a good grade on one of three tests. No other grades. No study guides. No book. All you have are notes and the tests are literally about his life experiences.
Kerr is one of the most personable and funny professors at UM. The only thing you have to do to get an A in this class is to show up. Tests are straightforward and easy to pass if you've gone to class. Kerr hilarious and has great stories to share. Fantastic class!
Gary Kerr has a heart of gold. However he is SUPER hard to sit and listen to. Also very quiet and goes off on rants. Also, you never use the textbook so dont buy it. The tests are mostly true or false, but the material isnt taught very well. I ended up getting ran A in the class and I have no clue how. Make sure you go to class, he posts nothing.
Garry Kerr is bar none, the most interesting person I have ever met. Many of his lectures will be spent telling you about all the interesting things he has seen and done. You do not need the book for this class. It is an extremely fun class and very easy to do well in. The class covers little information and as long as you show up you'll do well.
Prof. Kerr is a super nice guy who means well and really likes monkeys (and chimps) and dogs. Lots of life history in his lectures, but he goes over the material needed to pass and with a few outside resources an A is not a lot of work.
I took ANTY101 and I took the honor section and it was a very much effortless class. I took this class fall semester 2020 so Kerr was very mindful about COVID and gave us many days off during the semester and gave us assignments we could do at home (aka watching a movie). If youre worried about this class increasing your school work load, dont.
Garry has some of the most insane stories you will ever hear in your life. His lectures are an absolute joy to attend. One of the first times that I have gone out of my way to not miss lecture days out of enjoyment rather than necessity.
He's a nice guy
This guy is amazing, and entertaining. Overall a fantastic professor! And he's friends with Jane Goodall!
I absolutely love any class with Professor Kerr. He is super funny and genuinely cares about making a connection throughout every single class. Professor Kerr is super knowledgable about the topics he teaches and is more than willing to answer any and all questions. If you really want to get him going on a tangent ask about his world travels.
Super easy, and lectures are not necessary. Does not grade with much, though so you have to do good on the tests.
felt like I didn't learn anything
He seems like a sweet guy but I dropped after day 1 bc I couldn't understand anything he said. Was like he was having a conversation with like 3 people and the rest of us were just there overhearing it. Spent the first half of class talking about mushrooms and how they're from space. Seems like a cool guy to be friends with but not an ideal prof
Funny AF lollll
Most of the class period is him telling stories about his crazy experiences, but it ties into what he's trying to teach. He did not use the Canvas platform for our class. He also drops lots of hints during class on answers to the test. If you show up and pay attention it's a super easy class and he's very sweet.
Great professor if you are taking a credit that just needs to be filled. I went to class twice and passed with an A.
he absolutely loves to talk about his crazy personal experiences, and i have indeed kept a list in my notes app of insane stuff he says. i would recommend showing up for class just to hear him talk, its very entertaining. i havent learned a whole lot though. not difficult at all but might not be worth your time
Potentially the easiest A I've ever had. Garry cares a lot about his students, and makes that clear through his attempts to connect with the class. He tells lots of fun stories, and my jaw would end up dropping in virtually every class he has ever taught. Wild stuff, can't even try to explain it. I highly recommend
