Leonard is the best!!! He's an amazing Prof and a very understanding person. Take any course he offers,
OUTSTANDING!I'm speechless...all I can say, enthusiastically, is..."Leonard rocks!" :)
He's very enthusiastic and overall, a great teacher. It because he puts so much of himself in the course that makes it interesting. He's also really funny while explaining concepts making it a 'joy' to learn
great prof..lectures were interesting cos they related to real life and there was never a dull moment. Leonard actually makes u think and that is why its so easy to listen. He has a great sense of humor and I would have to say that his class was the most enjoyable to come to.
Leonard is undoubtedly the best prof I've ever had at UTSC..his course probably changed my life, and how I view things in general- you won't come away from his course unchanged. His class was the only one I had that year that I actually looked forward to going to lecture.
All I can say is that he left an indelible mark in the way I interpret things.
he over-analyzes even the simplest things in life, ruining the fact that some things just need to be left just to be. everything doesn't need to have some underlying meaning to make it mean anything.
Prof. L is great! I love the fact that he relates his lectures to everyday life. I actually leave his lectures thinking of what he said and realte them to my personal experiences. His essays are also enjoyable to write-not boaring. Take a class an you'll end up in all his classes.
Awesome prof! Can't say enough good things about him, just a genuinely interested, caring, good guy! You'll end up in all his classes!
There is such a thing as OVERanalyzation.
His stream of consciousness lecturing style is a bit much. His mid-term was not that great - freakin' quotes - and not marked properly. I had 10 answers which were correct but were marked as wrong.
In my four years at UTSC, taking Leonard's A10 course was one of the best I have taken, and I'll actually leave school remembering some of the stuff I learned in his class. He's enthusiastic, I found him hilarious and his tests were more than fair. He's one of the best profs I've ever had.
Definately one of the most interesting professors at the campus. Very easy-going and helpful.
Great Professor. i would take any class he is taking. Excellent speaker. Keeps his lectures interesting.
In a word, excellent. I started selecting courses for this semester by searching for anything that he's teaching.
Excellent Professor! He is enthusastic and passionate about his teaching. He makes you think beyond the texts and beyond the class. His views on the everyday life is very interesting. I highly recommend all his classes, especially a10 and b76.
keeps class interested and motivated.
love it! a comedian as well as a prof, keeps me awake and entertained for all 3 hours! plus msn group helps a whole lot!
He is a great professor. He always makes the class interesting and fun. Loved his lectures on Joseph Conrad and Oscar Wilde.
Even though class is three hours, he keeps it interesting!
lectures are so interesting and engaging. an excellent prof!
My favorite professor ever!! We love you!!
i wake up on wednesdays and go to school beaming.i love his class. <3
simply brilliant!
His lectures are always mind-opening and entertaining!
I really enjoy his class, he makes his lectures interesting, he's very funny, and you don't just learn about the literature. A little difficult to take notes sometimes, because he tends to talk in circles, but I recommend his class highly
He Rocks!
He is very good at what he does. He goes out of his way to help you! Do not think he is easy, because he isn't. You need to go to his class in order to do well in the course :D
Very interesting and fun lectures..I can honestly say i have never missed one and don't plan on missing any. Prof relates alot of concepts we dicuss in readings with life today, making things easier to understand. He also adds a bit of humour into the lecture so everyone pays attention. Great Professor, he made english my fav course!!
Very bad professor, boring lectures, and he over analyzes every little thing
You'll either love him or hate him. He basically wraps up English and Psychology into one course ... has some strange terms for his theories ... a 3 hour lecture can be a drain ... be prepared to take a ton of notes. He's a great presenter though and is dedicated to his job. I have mixed feelings about his course, but it's probably worth a look.
HOW COULD ANYONE HATE LEONARD? Best professor I've ever had in my life. Seriously. Kept me interested, motivated, and I have nothing but respect for him and his anecdotes.
take courses with him if YOU KNOW HOW TO ****. If you like your facts like I do then stay away from him. I don't like it when he says there's no clear answer to such and such. WHAT??? if you can't answer questions then what the hell are you doing TEACHING????
HE IS AN AMAZING PROF I LOVE HIM!!!! ILL TRULY REMEBER HIM FOREVER, HE CHANGED THE WAY I THINK ABOUT EVERYTHING MUAH!!!
Leonard is the best professor i've ever had. His anecdotes on life are priceless and they definitely will change your life. I'm not a nerd but i sit front row just to be closer to the man...lol...He's also a comedian, mainly because he never smiles, and he says witty jokes that he doesn't acknowledge are funny. 5 stars!
Garry Leonard is an EXCELLENT prof! I took both his Lit classes and loved them, I've never enjoyed lectures as much as his. He chooses interesting material and challenging topics but is able to relate them to real life. He changes the way you look at and think about things, and as an added bonus he's funny too! A+ hands down.
1 of my 2 fav Profs at UofT so far, the other being Dolan. Prof Leonard = extremely knowledgeable and shines new light on ways to understand modernity and post-modernity. However, be careful of being too mesmerized by his charm. His theories do not have to equal YOUR theories. Some of them certainly aren't mine. Nonetheless, he's still genius.
Proably one of the best profs at all of u of t. his midterms are really fair if u do you work! Why would Ludacrise wanna jack a cadillac he probaly has lot of them anyways! lol...the man is a comedian.
He is very helpful and genuinely cares about his students.
This prof. and course has opened my eyes in so many ways. It was just a wonderful experience. You have to live it to understand it.
AMAZING PROF! The BEST prof at UofT, in my opinion. I left the class changed & wanting more. He has reached celebrity status because he is so amazing. I would recommend this course to ANYONE. The life lessons you take away are unforgettable. Absolute GEM of a person!! LOVE HIM!! :)
SUCH and excellent prof.... really cares about the material, and is extremely intelligent and funny.
what can I say? he has his own fanclub on facebook and I'm a charter member :) just take his classes. the nice comments below are perfectly fine, but, really, it's his world and other professors just live there.
It's very difficult to find professors who are actually passionate about their discipline. He is by far one of the best profs at UTSC and we're lucky to have him!
This course is not recommended for those who aren't inclined in humanities. His theories are confusing; notes are even more confusing. Lectures put me to sleep. And no, your life will not change. But I will admit he has humor.
Great guy
good guy
I took ENGB75,C77,C76,C83 with Prof L. He is an excellent lecturer.you have to be open-minded to fully immerse yourself in his out-of-this world theories. He challenges the 'norm' and modernity & do so thru books/poems/movies/plays but also allow you understand his theories thru your own experiences.I gained more than course credits from his classes
He puts everything that you thought was impossible to put into words, into words... if that makes sense. He's one of very few good professors at U of T, I would recommend any one and every one to sit in his lectures.
Funny, great prof
Makes the world crytal clear by saying what we all want to say, but just can't.
He's reallyyy nice but grades are always low in his class!
He's an amazing lecturer and prof. As soon as he opens his mouth, he sweeps you into his world of theories. This professor has the ability to mesmerize his student; Prof L is truly exceptional.
BEST PROF AT UTSC BY FAR
Brilliant, that's all I can say about him.
Everyone seems to love him but I think he just talks a lot of nonsense in lectures. Not much of a professor at all---I didn't learn anything except his opinion on life. Waste of money! But the class is easy and the readings are good. Lectures, on the other hand, are a total waste of time. In fact, Prof. Leonard is just plain annoying.
THIS MAN IS BRILLIANT and to the idiot that commented below me you shouldve considered going to the lectures cuz from reading your response im 100% positive you didnt attend a single lecture. He opens your mind to a whole new world. books are fun the read and the exam is very fair! Overall AMAZING PROF! BEST AT UTSC BY FAR! I highly recommened taki
Prof. L is a profoundly insightful teacher/student/human being whose courses consist not of lectures, but of experiences. It was a privilege to have been his pupil, and I will count myself blessed if I am ever half as effective and kind a teacher as Prof. L. I recommend all of his courses without reservation. -Lori
To everyone who is hating on him for "over-analyzing," WHY did you take an English course? The whole point is to analyze the material and engage with it critically. Did you think he was going to teach you grammar and spelling? Or perhaps, how to read? This isn't JK people. You have a novel, a poem, any piece of literature in front of you, what do y
*pt. 2 - continuation* you do with it? Take it at face value? Dig a little deeper, find the message within the text, read between the lines! THIS, is English! ANY form of literature has a message, the reader is the interpreter. For example, there is a class of 100 students, let's say Every student will interpret the novel differently. So when you
I love Professor Leonard :D His lectures are so interesting and mind blowing
Clearly the people that love prof leonard do not know what a real english course is like. If someone were to really think about what he is saying you would realize that hes not analyzing anything...hes just talking nonsense. Anyone can do that.
AMAZINNNG PROF! DONT LISTEN TO THE DUMMY BELOW ME WHOS COMMENTED 3 TIMES ALREADY..HE PROBABLY WAS SLEEPING AT HOME WHILE THIS CLASS WAS GOING ON. THIS PROF IS INSPIRATIONAL AND THE COURSE IS GREAT! EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE IT!
Prof L's courses give you the opportunity to connect YOU and YOUR experiences to the discrepancies of the twentieth century. Learning is not defined as getting the right answer, instead it is about analyzing the social, political, and economical implications of the things that we already know & encounter in our daily lives.
I took three of his cinema and modernity classes. Open and engaging prof, one of my favourites and a must have for all at UTSC.
I love this man. I'm almost done my English major but his lectures and his courses (Enga10 and 11) that I took in first year are still by far my favourites. I didn't mind the 3 hour morning lecture-- it was worth it to be there! Thanks Prof. Leonard!
He is an absolutely amazing professor! He is able to effectively teach the course and find ways of relating the works in question to the students. I absolutely adore his teaching methods and look forward to taking more of his courses. I LOVEEE HIMM! On the last lecture, he ended with a fairytale. The lessons he teaches really relates to life.
I wouldn't recommend this class to any student. I found him be extremely disrespectful of religions and spiritualities. He pretends to be neutral, when he is not. Under the veneer of "critical thinking", he tries to pretend like he is intellectually profound, when the contrary is true. You only get to see this if you attend his classes regularly.
Do not take his course if you are not a feminist. The material is a bunch of feminist nonsense (binaries etc.) Anyone who thinks he is a genious probably gets their mind blown by Jersey Shore. There is no real content in his courses and he recycles content between courses. Don't waste your time or money. Who assigns group projects in university?
Love this guy...
As a UTSC grad, I would say Prof L is one of the best profs I have ever had. His lectures were very entertaining and relevant to real life. UTSC students are very lucky to have him. He's very respectful to his students, which is the best part, and seems to understand where the students are coming from.
How anyone can say anything disparaging about him is beyond me? he provokes insight which is tough to do...i think he's all that and a bag of still relevant slang!
I took A10 and A11. I am now in 4th year as an English specialist and I still see those two courses as the root of all the critical thinking I practice now. The analysis skills I learned in that course, I still use today! And I still look back on my notes from his courses three years later and they are significantly useful. He's a genius!
Amazing professor, amazing class! Will blow your mind with his amazing perspectives on liturature and stories. Classes are very entertaining and useful; the man is truly a genius!
I took A10 and A11. Amazing prof. He has a true interest in what he's teaching and relates the material to real life seamlessly. Attend classes, it's important to grasp the broad concepts he uses.
Best professor I have ever had. Most thought-provoking class I have ever taken. Recommend ENGA10/A11 to everyone.
I loved his lectures. They were inspiring and interesting. I felt like I was going to a therapy session every class. Really interesting thoughts on the world. Yes it's more preaching then teaching but I learned a lot and he made me think and look at things in new ways.
One word: INSPIRATIONAL! :) Honestly, love this prof so much I tell all my friends about him and a few of the lines I still remember from class! There is something unique and special that all students should learn from his teachings.
A very interesting lecture. but dont waste your time with this class if you dont really like the lit aspect. i lost all interest after midterm.
One of the most wonderful professors I have ever had. His lectures were always engaging and exciting. Such an amazing experience!
this class is overall fine but not for someone who doesn't like history. Literature in terms of history gets a little uninteresting at times and not everyone is interested in reading books from that era.
He is a great prof. But sometimes he begins to talk without any purpose. He talks a lot about random stuff. However he does mention a lot of concepts that are mind boggling. Overall, a great prof.
I'm going to be quite frank, I did not enjoy his class as much as everyone exaggerated, the fact that it's 9am in the morning and the prof tries to crack jokes gets me irritated. But Leonard is undoubtedly a very intelligent man, he's engaging and pretty tough with his marking, but personally I would not take any of courses in the future. Cheers
He's my favourite professor of my entire university experience. I graduated 6 months ago but I'll never forget his lectures. If you actually pay attention he will teach you about life. The way he would open up my mind to different perspectives went beyond what I was expecting from an English Lit class. It's been a pleasure learning from him.
He's a good professor. Really funny and interesting. I only wish he would engage with the class more. I found I was (and other students :) ) kind of falling asleep. Definitely recommend a class with him. One of the best profs I had so far.
Professor Leonard is an great professor. One of the things I really like about him is the fact that he gives us replays to any questions we may have either on Facebook,or in an email. He must get hundreds of emails but still constantly replays to them which is very much appreciated!
Professor Leonard is a great professor, really funny and interesting but definitely inspirational! He really opens your mind to different perspectives and he teaches you about the life. Definitely an unforgettable experience!
Professor Leonard was my favourite professor. He brought ideas to light in an interesting and creative way. His exams are easy if you pay attention because he asks you what you learned. He was so funny and my inspiration to continue on in English at utsc. <3 best teacher.
Prior to the course I did not expect to be so interested, but Prof. Leonard does an excellent job at grabbing your attention and he is able to hold your attention for the entire lecture. Also I would have never been able to make that connection between the material we have read and the world the way Mr. Leonard does, he truly opened my eyes. 10/10
Professor is cool and humurous. His class is interesting and pretty much open your eyes to the real world we're living in. But, if you're looking for an easy A, this isn't the class for you. Just because he talks in his lectures only doesn't mean it's easy. It's not.
Professor Leonard is such an amazing Prof. He really keeps the lecture interesting and engaging. He made me love English a lot more!
Prof. Leonard is a very interesting and insightful professor, he's quite clear, and gets to the point. From my perspective he cares about the students, and gives a new way of thinking of "life" in a way. The only negative would be the transition from the first hour of lecture where for me, I get lost. But this is sometimes, not always.
Great speaker, made for a lot of interesting discussions. Some things can go over your head if you don't keep up, so pay attention. Otherwise an enjoyable class. Read the books, come to lectures, read the Blackboard announcements and notes. Enjoyable class.
I really enjoyed coming to this class every week! Professor Leonard has a very insightful way of teaching; he guided the class to see the world in a different perspective. I also enjoyed the novels he chose to use in the curriculum.
If I'm going to be completely honest I would say that this course is difficult and would not be everyone's cup of tea (for instance if you don't like reading novels and analyzing), however, Leonard teaching methods are unique from any other classes I've ever attended and definitely gave me a rememberable English class experience.
Professor Leonard has me mind-boggled every class. He's inspirational. I mean I've always loved English, but attending his lectures allowed me to see it from a different, more in-depth perspective. Although I would find the course itself difficult, I really enjoyed starting the morning with the class.
I tell all my friends about Professor Leonard. I've already seen a lot of similar comments but he really is inspirational and extremely clever. He always repeats important ideas which I find helpful.
Prof. Leonard is very insightful and obviously puts a lot of thought into what he teaches. His classes are always interesting and thought provoking. Overall he's taught me a new way to look at things.
Really great class. He does a great job of explaining everything and analyzing the texts.
Thank you for putting the way I've felt for years in fancy concepts and big words.I loved your classes although I felt like crying most of the time during the lectures or jumping in front of a bus right after. Advice: if you're ignorant and oblivious to what's happening around you, take this class hopefully it will open your EYES. Peace and Love
Interesting course and very captivating professor. I should've been early to every class.
Very interesting class! Professor was very comedic and kept the class very interesting.
Great prof. If you are good at english then this class is an easy 80. I got admit a lot of the stuff he says is intriguing, yet sometimes he goes of topic.
Got a 91 in the class so I'm not saying this out of anger. He is interesting, and talks about things through a perspective that you wouldn't have thought of, but goes HORRENDOUSLY off topic (still interesting, but not relevant). His questions have nothing to do with what he says in class and is just raw memorization. I wouldn't take it again.
He's a legend. No doubt about it.There is sort of a madness about him, you can't really categorize him or position him with other professors (but I suppose that's how he wants his class to be). It is worth taking one class with him. But if you want to really develop a critical approach to literature then take another class.
If you like to listen to the ideologies a guy who takes himself way too seriously for 2 hours a week, and if you think the modern world is becoming a black hole of despair, this is the course for you. Just make sure you memorize and repeat exactly what he says and you'll do great.
I've taken many of his classes and he is one of the best lecturers and most interesting profs I've ever had. His teaching style is not for everyone though as he usually lectures straight through class and he references and ties in a lot of examples to the material. Otherwise, all his classes are fascinating!
Wow Professor Leonard is an absolutely amazing speaker, there's something magical and mad about him... However, this is not a class to take for interest. Hard and boring books to read. The lecture is long but only once a week. Topics are wide ranged however hope to tie in at the end. Fills in the Arts, Literature and Language breadth requirement.
I feel like I resonate with almost everything he says. He says things that are so deep, but so callously that if you're not paying attention you won't even notice. I love his personality and he's just very inspiring.
READ THE BOOKS! GO TO LECTURE! LECTURES ARE VERY INTERESTING, RELEVANT AND AMAZING ANYWAYS!
Amazing prof, I took his course as an elective. If you're looking for marks it's super easy to score a 3.75 or higher, the midterm is exactly what he talks about in class. If you're looking for knowledge this is the class, he touches on many world issues and the reasons for their making. I would recommend this class to all.
READ THE BOOKS!! because he gets really specific in the short answer questions on the exams, super boring since it was at 9 in the morning.
He's amazing at lecturing, it's worth it.
Listening to him drone on for two hours is horrible. He hardly talks about the books as he mainly discusses his personal views. Whenever you think he is going to say something useful he forgets to finish the point. But the class is easy and the books are good so that is at least somewhat redeeming for the time I wasted in this class.
This professor is amazing.... His class started out with 65 and now you have about over 350 students taking it. Find out why, take Eng10 and Eng11. Tried to take his C and D level class but could not due to it be being full.
My favourite Professor so far in my University career. If you ever have the opportunity to take his class then you should. He will open your eyes up to things beyond just this small university life. Even though it was a 9 am class, I looked forward to attending his class because I always learned a lot from him.
will change your perspective, and your GPA in the best way possible
Great class, very well attended even in mornings. Great prof. He not typical at all, we an interesting teaching philosophy. Uses fb actively. Lectures are very interesting.
Awesome professor, made me think about interesting things in relation to many different literary works.
Classes were so enchanting I learned so much, and found it very easy to understand concepts, but maybe because I'm in science(& bad at English) I did poorly on exams. When I asked for help after class or why I did poorly there was no help at all and he eventually stopped replying to emails. This is a shame since it ruined the whole experience.
Really cool prof, great lecturer. Feels like you're always in a Ted Talk. Lectures make you think about life and stuff. Really interesting course.
He is a great lecturer. But he does not spend as much time on the novels as one would expect- spends more time on background information. I did not like the course as poor feedback was given. It was impossible to determine how to improve on the essay. Talks about free thought but tries to impose his perspectives onto you.
Lectures are incredibly dry. His class "discussions" is just him talking by himself the whole time. Constantly off-track and hard to understand the point of his lectures. You're better off completing all the readings (including his self published textbook) than attending classes. Exams are ridiculous. Will test you on things unrelated to the course
Just awful. Short answer is easy, but the essay question was long + confusing. His "syllabus" is posted in the form of an announcement. He doesn't post his office hours anywhere; course organization is poor. Understand main themes of course and READ THE BOOKS (don't really need necessary fictions). Msg'd him on Facebook never got a reply.
50% hilarious, 50% boring. Otherwise, a fair marker.
Amazing. Go to every class--and wait--it takes awhile, but when it all starts to come together, WOW
His course reader, while helpful, is very lengthy and has no proper structure. There are just many paragraphs, each of which somehow begin at one subject and conclude with another subject. Exactly like the things he teaches lectures: extremely hard to pinpoint. It sounds like one long paragraph, and so you must purchase and read the course reader.
The book accompanying the lectures is amazing--I've been letting friends borrow it who are not in the class and they have found it really useful for generating ideas for their other classes. Professor Leonard REALLY thinks outside the box and not everyone 'gets it'.
I managed to get a B+ in his course without doing the readings. I just showed up to the lectures and wrote down the points he makes in class. Lectures are a mix of being thought provoking and boring. I went back into my notes after class and reorganized them and grouped ideas and studied those. Would recommend doing the readings for an A though.
in terms of what sort of grade you can get, it's simple: just read the book he wrote to accompany the lectures and you could get a B, just attend the lectures and you could get a B, just do the readings and ou could get a C , but if ou want an A you're going to have to do all three. he shows the relevance of the readings to the world we live in now
Best prof I've ever had. Changes the way you think. Fair grader. Lots of reading.
He's incredible!
The best prof I've ever had. Everything he says is so insightful and it encourages you to actually think. Yeah, there were lots of books to read but it's an english class so there's not avoiding it. As long as you read the books, you'll be able to do well. (He actually gives pretty good overviews of them during the lectures).
My favorite professor in my first year at UTSC. Although he goes off topic (this is like every few seconds), his lectures are hilarious. Even if you do not attend but read his books, you will definitely get a 4.0. Its the best course to cover the breadth requirement!
Not my favourite class or professor. Ended up no crediting the course. Too flowery and all over the place for my liking. The textbook was confusing but I did get to read some interesting books. Would not take another class with this prof again but you can tell that he loves this subject and has found his life calling.
I like Garry, allot. Power is an effect of relationships! I learned more from that one sentence than anything in this university.
Amazing prof! Cares for the student to actually do well. Def recommend taking his class.
His lectures were mediocre at best. Would ramble on with his examples, and students never truly understood how his exams would be formatted.
Fantastic. As he says, "I don't give answers. I teach you how to ask better questions."
My favourite prof at UTSC! Lectures were life changing. His ideas are absolutely brilliant and while there is a ton of reading, the books are all great reads. Try to understand his main concepts for the essay questions and know the stories well for the short answer (SA qs can get pretty detail oriented). He reuses past exams qs w/ minor changes.
Wow. Every lecture is a ted talk. just try and take it all in. this course is about your life, people.
I'm in neuroscience. Took this class just to fill a humanities requirement. every lecture was like a sledge hammer to what I thought I already knew. not for the faint of heart.
The best. Don't take my word for it, check out his Ted Talk!
the best prof i've ever had.
A lot of people take Leonard's class, never show up and just read the textbook, and then complain about the midterm and final. Seriously, just go to the lectures and be willing to learn, he is an extremely interesting professor who makes every lecture a ted talk. Highly recommend, even if you are in a STEM major.
Honestly as a first year student , Professor Leonard was the only professor i had that genuinely helped and gave feedback, he cared if there were any issues or conflicts that could interfere with midterms, finals etc and was more than willing to help you achieve a good mark, theres a lot of reading but it was still an enjoyable course
His lectures are great, notetaking can be a bit of problem if you are slow at it without a systematic way to arrange them (like me), but, you don't really need to be worry about this because his textbook assigned also will mention most of the key points again. His ideas are also opening my mind about how to view the world and ourselves etc..
Ngl, when the semester started I though the class was a joke. Coming from STEM, I was used to the structure lectures and memorization but this class isn't about that. Its more on understanding and relating it to our current lives. His lectures became insightful and fun once I understood that. If you attend his lectures, your set for an A
he is a prof i would highly recommend you take. hes an amazing speaker who tends to bring humour wherever he can. i also recommend you attend his classes because it definitely is more easier to understand. he doesnt like using online recorded classes or powerpoints but you wont have to panic on keeping up as he likes to go off track a bit.
HEs AMAZING.
Taking ENGA10 right now online, about halfway through the semester. His lectures are really interesting and insightful and made me appreciate the course content a lot more.
Professor Leonard is SO GREAT that I was able to restrain myself from buying useless crap on amazon because of his PROVOKING message on consumerism and the vampiric self. really entertaining and insightful lectures 10/10 GOAT
This course gives you a different perspective of the 19th and 20th century through the arts during that time, and what's happening in the society besides the fast growing industrialization. However, ENGA10 is also quite difficult and time-consuming course, especially for international students.
I think I'd prefer his lectures if they were in-person. Since these lectures are asynchronous, it's a lot more difficult to digest what he's saying for the long term. The lectures are intriguing when I watch them but I find myself either not being able to follow along, or not fully taking in his points. Asynchronous courses are just not for me.
Halfway through ENGA10 right now. Absolutely LOVING IT. I really cannot say enough about Prof. Leonard's course. Even though, sadly, everything is virtual because of COVID-19, the lectures are still incredible - so engaging, insightful, and funny! Criteria for the midterm was very clear; office hours are super helpful. Wish I had taken it sooner!!
I think Mr. Leonard gives us a suitable and careful education. When I meet questions, he always can give me exact explanations.
My favorite professor in UTSC, his lectures are so inspirational and I feel lucky that I Professor Leonard taught me and this course will change how you view the world and it is just amazing.
Honestly such a nice and enlightening class! The lectures almost feel like you are constantly watching a tedtalk, and you're always learning something new:)
Excellent Professor
I took the course in Fall 2020, so the course was online. The lectures were asynchronous, so he did not mark attendance. He did not have weekly homework. the only things that were graded were a midterm, a final exam and two journals.
he is a very understanding prof.
Funny Prof who gives you ample time to understand the material and ask questions if you're unclear. Even if you don't enjoy English, his lectures will make you interested.
This is the second course I'm taking with this professor and I totally love the way he explains the literature and how the chosen readings relates to our life on individual, social, cultural, and historical aspects! I would highly recommend his courses to everyone who enjoys reading and insightful lectures on a weekly basis.
Despite not being a fan of zoom, Professor Leonards seminar on Joyce has been extremely fun. Assignments are geared more towards what we think about Joyces stories rather than striving to write the right thing in hopes of getting a good grade. I would say Prof L is the only Professor Ive met that has made me see the beauty in learning.
Truly incredible professor. Every lecture is philosophical and gets to the roots, the inherent claims about humanity and society, of each work studied and ties everything together. His arguments are original, fascinating, sound, and profound. If you have the opportunity, TAKE HIS CLASS!
Professor Leonard is an exceptional educator. Do not approach his classes with the sole intention of getting a good grade or fulfilling a requirement - you will miss the point entirely. Prof L will open up your mind, get you to think about what you're learning & what it means to be a conscious student/citizen/human. He will change your life!
I'm currently in this class, really enjoying his choice of literature and his lectures are great and really informative
Prof Leonard has done a great job of making online school fun and easy by making engaging lecture videos that are easy to access and by adding in some jokes here and there so it's easier to get through. He has been very understanding and is easy to reach outside of office hours. I would definitely take one of his classes again.
Get your notes ready, because this prof is going a mile a minute with things you'll want to write down! Every lecture is filled to bursting with information - most of it on topic. Not a dull moment in this class, he's as funny as he is informative. the texts may seem difficult at first, but the lectures quickly make everything clear as day.
Do NOT take this course during COVID. TA's marked out midterm exam incredibly hard! I am usually an A student, but my midterm essay put me at a C. Take a different English course with another professor!
Covid has made classes difficult, but Prof. Leonard has been doing the most to ensure this class doesn't add to anyone's stress. He's very accessible outside of class and his marking has been extremely considerate given current circumstances. HIGHLY recommend
Taking this course, I was hesitant at first since I do not trust my writing capabilities but his way of lecturing and help throughout the course has made this course really easy going so far and made me fall in love with literature again. His lectures are like listening to your favourite uncle's interesting life stories and important life lessons.
Professor Leonard is seriously one of my favorite professors in UTSC. I really enjoy hearing him speak, his lectures are basically a TED talk and his insight into how the world works is so interesting. The course is relatively easy, just have a basic understanding of the books you are reading and listen to his lectures. Such an amazing prof!
Best professor ever! His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. You never get bored as his course is structured around themes and the real world. He goes through everything you need to know and is always available to help. He is extremely considerate and gives extra credit. Loved his class so much that I enrolled in ENGA11. Overall, awesome.
Professor Leonard is great. His lectures can get a little long but they're very interesting. Especially since his material really makes you think about the world. He's very accommodating (especially during this dreaded COVID-19 time) and is overall just a great professor. There was a total of 3 assignments including midterm and final so be careful.
Absolutely loved this class :) It really isn't just a class about literature and film - it's a class that inspires you to think about big, important ideas. Lectures are very entertaining and thorough; lectures notes are a great accompaniment to the readings. Make sure to stay on top of things for the midterm, journal assignment, and final exam.
He is a beautiful soul. His taped lectures are sometimes as wonderful as Shakespearean monologues (I am NOT exaggerating--he doesn't tell you what to think, he thinks out loud for you, and he inhabits the brilliant works we read. 'The Waste Land' was an impenetrable jumble of words to me and then he talked his way through it and it came to life.
Good professor with very interesting lectures. He's been extremely accommodating during these tough times and overall made my university experience a lot better. Lectures don't really follow a direct linear structure as the prof sometimes goes back to older themes which gets confusing at times but overall a good course
I took this class because of RMP ratings and needed it for breadth. But please trust me, HES TERRIBLE. any arts/hum/eng students will likely agree. There are not enough characters to explain how bad he is, then again, I could write a thesis paper on it. Not a difficult course but there are easier, more interesting eng courses, don't take this one.
wow, no idea what that last guy. was on about. amazing lectures, accommodating and passionate, answered all my email within a day--not just a class, but a life event.
Even though in theory this class has lots of reading. Around one book a week. However, Professor Leonard is very caring, understanding and accomidating in these awful times. He truly tries his absolute best to make online learning the least amount of dreadful.
So professor Leonard is great. he's absolutely wonderful. But the marking scheme is extremely vague in his course. you could literally write as he speaks in class and the TAs do their own thing in marking. He throws in a bunch of extra credits but nothing is properly accounted for. Fine if you get the grade you want but can be frustrating.
Verbose word salads that don't mean anything comprise the entirety of his lectures. He is the worst prof I have ever had in my life. I am a straight A student and found this class to be insufferably hard because it is impossible to comprehend this pedant of a prof.
This is the third class I take with this professor and I love it. I always can learn so much from his lectures and his discussions with other classmates. He also provides lots of opportunity to analyze the films in a more deeper and thoughtful way and also what's the event available in our school on this topic. Great professor!
Simply the best. Life-changing. Just sign up. It doesn't matter which course as long as he is teaching it
fantastic lectures--EVERY TIME. He doesn't work off notes, he tells a story. the "digressions" are part of the story and you have to "wait for it" sometimes as he builds to a point. but, when he is done, you understand from a multiplicity of angles; historical, , socially, psychologically, personally, globally..
I enjoy his lectures: they are in fact inspiring and life-changing! Prof L responds to emails fairly quickly but his answers can be vague sometimes. He also gives out extensions cuz of covid :) Course wise, the workload is kinda heavy since you have to read a book every week and some content can be difficult to grasp
Read some great books and watched some interesting films. Only two essays and two journal entries in the course - sometimes the essay question is tricky and TAs might mark harshly. However, his lectures are amazing and he gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. He's also very understanding and gives extra time considering COVID, great prof.
Garry Leonard is a really good professor! His lectures are long but really interesting & lots of reading because its an english course but read and you will pass 100% he also gives us extra credit stuff and even BOOSTED MARKS because of COVID & he said he wants us to not be stressed since we have other courses too!
Professor Leonard is a very nice man, however I feel his lectures are extremely heavy for an introductory class. His open classes are more helpful, but he often goes on to a completely different topic and loses the main focus. I do think that he is a good marker and gives good feedback. I would take him again but be prepared to extremely focus.
Professor Leonard is kind and cares about his students. This course is interesting and offers a better understanding of modernity. Its not that hard to get an A as long as u work hard and finish the required readings. Feel free to ask Professor Leonard questions, he is very patient and generous.
Hated English throughout high school, but heard good things so decided to take this. I was blown away by how interesting I found his lectures, as well as how often I found myself thinking about topics from class in situations in my own life. This class won't be for everyone though, as his lectures were unstructured and did not have any slides.
Very unorganized and the professor's syllabus has no detail on the actual course. Lectures are interesting though
Prof leonard is hilarious. if you have to take an english course take a11 you'll need it for your midlife crisis
teaches godot by day, battles the apparatus and the deans by night. what a man
He has very interesting and entertaining lectures, as well as a great sense of humour, but this course is sooo disorganized. The syllabus isn't even given in a PDF form, and wasn't really mentioned on the course page until the last couple of weeks, and we even had to e-mail him some of our assignments...
Professor Leonard's lectures made my week, I could listen him talk for hours.
One of my favorite professors ever. His classes and lectures truly left a mark on me. If you have the opportunity to take one of his classes, please take it as you will not regret it. His material goes beyond just what your reading and connects it to deeper, important themes. He is also super kind, helpful, and funny. Best prof. Highly recommend.
Simply the best!
wow. relentlessly brilliant--hard to take it all in, but hang in there. he does circle back and help you better understand what he has already said. not an experience you will forget.
Simply the greatest, every lecture feels like TED Talk.
Great professor! Definitely will take his course again.
After class, when you walk down the street, it's not the same street as before the lecture. That's how radical and sometimes even subversive his lectures are, Fair warning, as he himself says, he is not going to give answers, he is going to model ways to ask better questions. For him, "speak truth to power" is not just a slogan.
I found this to be a very frustrating course because I have to spend multiple hours just parsing through his extremely verbose style of lecturing and writing, even as a film minor. For assignments, he makes students view course texts through a very specific lens (this is subjective, but I find reading sermon passages EXTREMELY uninteresting).
Just signed up for ENGA11 because ENGA10 was so great!
I am a Computer Science major and took this class for a breadth requirement. What a shock when, week after week, Professor Leonard too a see hammer to the "reality" I thought I knew. The amazing thing is he presents some of the best work ever written--- and then manages to keep up with it!
I do not exaggerate when I say this class prevented me from killing myself. If you are reading this, I urge you to take it, it will change your perspective on life.
Pros: Thought provoking, content is relevant to ALL people, fantastic lectures, extremely fair assessments Cons: 3 months flys by so quickly!
If English was taught this way in high-school, I'm sure there would be at10x as many literature and film majors. Dr. Leonards lectures are incredible, and he provides detailed notes to accompany them in case you get lost. The books we studied were all very entertaining and the course content is extremely relevant in this day and age.
Very interesting lectures and readings, and assessments are extremely reasonable. As long as you actually engage with the ideas, you can fair very well.
This isn't an English course, it's a life course. The subject matter deals with "how to navigate modern world" and form genuine relationships when everything has become so disconnected and exploitive. The books, poems, and movies are used as the "tools" for studying ourselves. This is an extremely important and enjoyable course for any major.
Best professor at UTSC!! Seriously, you'll want to attend every lecture in person.
Really interesting and eyeopening course with a light workload
this professor is amazing, I took this course as a breadth requirement but I fell in love with the subject due to the complex ways that he explains them. I am not taking literature and film as a minor and I really recommend this prof. 10/10 take these courses.
Extremely understanding and funny. Very charismatic in his lectures and kind in giving extra credit.
I attended the lecture referred to in the comment below. One of the best ever. He is an incredible lecturer. I think when students wander in, not taking the class seriously, or attending lectures consistently, it just seems weird to them and then they complain about it on here.
Took A10, loved it, currently taking A11, the ideas are a bit more challenging, but it is still an incredibly thought provking class. For reference, the review twice below mine is referring to the second lecture of the semester. They dropped the course on the second week of the semester lol.
One of the most unique courses I have ever taken. He takes symbolism in movies to a whole new level. The assessments in this course are also fairer than his other courses for those worried about that. He is one of the most hilarious, engaging, and wise Professors!
Like all of his courses, this course may help you to improve your reading or writing abilities but more importantly, helps you with your 'mid-life' or 'day-to-day' crises and increase your critical thinking about the world around you. Amazing lectures and course content. One of the most exceptional and engaging Professors out there!
TBH I love this professor personally, but his lecture is very nagging, half of the lecture is irrelevant stuff about philosophy about life.
Probably the best professor I have had at UTSC. All the books we read were very interesting and there are tons of options for bonus marks
It is a class of 300 students and somehow he makes you feel heard and seen. This class will help with other classes, and with life in general. As he says "I"m not hear to tell you what to think, but how to think"
From the very first lecture, this course and Professor Leonard changed my perspective on life. He taught me so many lessons about life and education that I would have not received in most/any other courses. Definitely recommend this course and his other courses as electives or for English credit.
Best prof ever!!!
He warns you upfront he. may not be the teacher for you. If you are not into his unique lecture style, drop out and make room for someone else. Otherwise, buckle your seat belt: He is the intellectual equivalent of The Fast and the Furious.
Most of the work in this course is just reading. That being said, Dr Leonard is without a doubt one of the most brilliant minds at UofT.
His range of knowledge is literally breathtaking-- somehow, all along the way the seems to be taking abut life, the purpose of suffering, how to become more resilient. . . . When you leave, part of what happens in his classes leaves with you.
2 hours of the most boring lecture I have ever sat in. I skipped like all of them.
Just curious-- the guy below who talks about "boring lectures" adding that "he skipped, like, all of them"(!)So, how would you even know? Prof Leonard describes his lectures as "cumulative"--they build, one upon the other. I am a fourth year Science student, 4.0 GPA, and I learned more in this class than in any other.
Leonard is by far the best professor at UTSC. He is such an engaging and easy-going professor who just geniunely loves his students and what he teaches. He even said himself the reason why I am a professor is because I was a student who always loved learning and never wanted to leave that environment. Leonard is the professor I recommend to all.
Best class in university taught by the best Prof. His lecture today on the waste land and World War One was riveting!
His lecture on Hollywood Westerns--Puritans, guns, "the promised land"--It seemed to come right out of the headlines of today!
incredible professor. lectures were always engaging and interesting along with the course books. made interesting connections with the books to all types of movies, music and real world scenarios. lectures are recorded & posted, but going in-person is definitely recommended. midterm & final were take home with 1 assignment. great course.
One day he said "I'm preparing your for your mid-life crisis" and that's what it feels like: take this class. You'll need it later.
I love the film minor and this is the best course of all IMHO. it's Leonard, of course, so big surprise. amazing films and in-depth discussions
Professor Leonard is one of the most captivating and engaging people I have had the privilege to be taught by. Every single lecture of his I could not help but think about throughout my day.
The course was very easy but the lectures had no structure and were hard to follow or take notes on. By the end of the term, I ended up only attending like four or five but still finished with an A-. If you are a good writer and don't mind really boring lectures, you'll do fine even if you don't do the readings.
I am a fourth year Pre-Med. Best class of my University career. If you listen, and stay engaged, this class explains so much. Practically every day something catches my eye and I think of what I learned from this man.
I second the high regard for his lectures, but I also appreciate how he sat outside the classroom AFTER lecture, sometimes for two more hours(!), right after the two hour lecture, fielding questions and offering further commentary. Here, he really helped me get my bearings as a first year student.
Great professor, definitely one of my favorite classes
Everything I fantasized a University lecture could be--but rarely is: The P.E.P.S.I. myths! myths of progress, efficiency, perfection, satisfaction, innovation. Once he explains it, you will see it EVERYWHERE-- the structure behind the appearance of what we should do, how we should view others, and how we should feel about ourselves.
Who else could present A SILENT BLACK-AND-WHITE MOIVE (Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times) and make it seem like it is about your life? I love the way everything connects with everything else in his lectures.
When signing up for his classes, I burst into song: "Well I've got a blank space, baby, and I'll write your name!"
Love his take on cinematic genres. His lectures on Hollywood Romance taught me a lot about dating! really helped me understand contemporary movies like "Get Out"
He is really, really funny--even if it sometimes takes you the entire lecture to fully appreciate his "side remarks". His take on the BARBIE movie had the whole class howling--then it stayed with me, and changed my understanding of the movie.
So excited--just signed up--my cousin took his class four years ago, and STILL talks about it all the time--I feel like I'm ready to take the final exam!
Take the class and you share a new language with class alums: the PEPSI myths! Vampiric relationship of self to other! I shop therefor I am!
I took this film class last year on the recommendation of a friend and, because of it, decided to minor in film (in addition to Biology). The other film Profs are good, but I tried to take as many with Leonard as I could--- He is on another level, but also caring and interested in his students.
Took A11 last Winter, taking A10 this Fall--and I'm in Computer Science! He's like Taylor Swift in the sense you either get him, or you don't. If you do, every lecture is interesting and fun. If you don't, I hear "he is disorganized", etc. True, but, as he says "why is being organized so great?"
I am pre-med and took A10 for my Humanities credit-- I was told he was a good lecturer so I expected it to be interesting. I didn't expect it to make me realize literature and film can help you change your life for the better. It really adds to whatever Science you come from--as I have heard from friends in computer science, chemistry, etc.
Wow, full disclosure I took classes with him at Colby College in 1985! I got to this page out of nostalgia. A life-changing teacher. And I am not even a little surprised hundreds of ratings talk about him as the best. I guess I had him when he was "starting out"- but he was instantly a sensation -- almost 40 years ago!
Absolute GOAT
If you are on this page, you are thinking of enrolling. Do it. More than a course, also life lessons. Literally got me though the first year.
Professor Leonard is super kind and caring of his students. If you ever need feedback, you can ask him after class and he will be happy to help! The essays were graded fairly, with no surprises, just based on quality. I would def suggest this course for a GPA booster :)
Wow. My first day of classes, his first lecture-- no one else is doing this-- the class burst into applause at the end- the first lecture!
The class enrolment is now at 500 and I am STILL on the waiting list--first lecture was stunning. I may have to keep coming whether I get in the class or not!
Definitely my favourite professor in four years at UTSC. I'm not even an English major. I am majoring in Physics!
For people in the future: This is NOT an easy A. You get only 2 chances: midterm and final, so if you screw up = dead. This class is 70% PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY 30% literature, so if you hate that then have fun with 0% understanding; it will get worse. Other than that, recorded lecture, no tutorial, just read a lot and that's it (class avg so far 70)
Don't know why a lot are talking. Such a good professor and content vs grading is pretty fair. Nice guy and lectures are interesting, would definitely recommend this class to others.
Honestly such a great course/ professor if you like English literature and analysis. I love the lectures, although long, he analyses the reading in a way that always turns inspirational and has me rethinking everything! He's also a good grader :)
The reviews below that talk about faked reviews-- Professor Leonard was AMAZING. No faked reviews here--everyone should take!
The course is over-traditional to its detriment. The idea is just that the professor talks for 2 hours and you take in what you can, but he's not an engaging enough speaker to let any of it stick. The course material is simply his opinion about the world and how he sees it in certain novels, but he fails to concisely make a point.
As a current student of Prof. Leonard's, I enjoy his lectures and the course format. I can appreciate that while my generation may not understand this format of lecturing, I find some of the topics valuable and thought-provoking. The course is made up of a midterm, final and 2 journal reflections, with the midterm and final being most of the grade.
Decent content, accessible prof, lecture notes provided, extra credits. One book/film per week is normal for an English course. One may always drop/LWD if it's not one's style. Also, earning experience varies; one surely can stay critical. Writing style can be learned/ imitated; not only Leonard writes this way. Be mindful of assertions.
This site is obviously pointless if you can post over and over again. There are tapes of him lecturing all over YouTube. or drop into the class. he even posted a ted talk on Quercus.
Not a GPA booster if you're looking for anything above an A-, and not life-changing. You'll have to sit through two hours of non-engaging lectures where you're talked at - about the professor's personal views about the world. The TAs mark harshly, offer different feedback than the prof, and you're graded on few assignments. Extra credit tho.
I broke my arm in a car accident in B75 . Probably sent him at least ten emails. He answered them all and helped me not drop the class.
Professor Leonard here. First time posting (yes, really). I have to thank the reddit trolls for making what I thought would be a hard decision easy. I checked course analytics for A10. Of 440 students, 51 have never been to quercus, never watched the lectures, never opened course note files. And yet MY integrity is on trial . see next prompt
Prof L. again. Just posted this because I feel like it. so much integrity in the way this site is structured. How could it every produce anything that was not the truth? Pile on haters. I'm learning a lot.
I know some find his lectures boring but I found them really interesting and complex! My issue lies with the few assignments and the lack of a rubric... If you are looking for a simple course for a breadth requirement this one won't be for you, it's really complicated, be sure to read every book (around one per week) and attend lectures.
Actual former student here, and because I don't like troll anonymity - you can look me up. My name is Christina Hutchinson. Students are writing about how inspiring Prof Leonard's lectures are because they are. They promote creativity and critical thinking while connecting content to modern day examples. If you attended a lecture, you'd know.
This professor is very caring and ensures that students get the help they need when they ask him in person. He offers advice to students and his lectures are very enticing.
Great professor I took multiple courses with him and felt they were all extremely insightful! I loved chatting with him after class as well. Highly recommend!
I took A10 and A11 in Fall 2020 and Winter 2021, Professor Garry Leonard is hands down the best professor I had.
Prof Leonard is chill asf. If you like english, philosophy, and deep analysis of quotes you'll love this class. The lectures are quite long (2 hours), there are lecture notes. Some may say the lectures are boring but if you like text analysis you'll like the class. No need to take notes during lecture. Hes pretty chill but this is not a bird class.
Love him or hate him. Lots of lectures, ted talk online.
He really does jump around a lot. But midterm/final is fair. It only has quotes he has talked about directly at least once and sometimes every class
Lectures were long. Midterm and final were easy. Nice guy. Hangs around after the class.
His lectures are about psychoanalysis. It isn't easy stuff so people that thought it'd be "bird", get smashed. Since when did UofT even have easy courses anyways. Overall it actually wasnt a bad class: 0 commitment, really little assignments, prof rlly accessible if u are willing to use the time to ask him stuff, also thought provoking to a degree
boasts about critical thinking and yet could not handle critiques about himself, a wealthy white professor in a position of power. . . you're expected to elaborate on an extremely niche philosophy of his in your essays, which are the take-home midterm and final. Still, it's not very helpful without any marking scheme.
One midterm, one final, one journal. But they are online, so you can look over the weekly lectures notes he also posts. There is a lot of reading.
Great guy honestly is understanding
2h long lectures where he rambles. Assignment are grader poorly with little feedback making it difficult to improve. no longer records lectures as he needs people to be in person to watch him spew faux philosophical analytical ideas. Overall this class was doable but I doubt many people learn something new. Thought this class could've been better
Not a bird course. A lot of reading and viewing of movies. But actually my favourite class (third year). Online midterm and final. No rubrics. His lectures make sense if you pay attention
Professor Leonard is great if you are actually willing to put in the time to read and listen to lectures. His lectures build on previous ones, so everything makes sense if you pay attention. He offered a few opportunities for extra points on the midterm, journals, and final.
I took this course because I was interested in literature/film, and to no surprise, I loved the "rambling" lectures. As a third-year student, I've learned that an easy course is one that you're interested in (don't take a class because it seems "easy"). If you're passionate about film, I guarantee you'll have no problem in this class.
This professor has the biggest ego I've ever encountered, yet is one of the worst educators. His lectures are disorganized, he ignores emails, and grades harshly without clear criteria. It feels like he's more interested in boosting his own image than actually teaching or supporting his students. Truly a disappointing experience.
A lot of reading. Not a bird course. great lectures. He answered all of my emails and there were quite a few when I got pneumonia.
Not a bird class. Not a GPA booster. Lectures not recorded. Midterm final and journal. Midterm average 72.
Not a bird course but you have a chance to improve your grade by up to six percentage points if you do all extra credit. The lectures are open-ended, as is the midterm/final. No tutorials. Plus a journal for ten percent, which I really enjoyed writing. 74 average on the midterm, so grading is fair. I think.
Honestly attend the 1st lecture and see how you feel. Keep in mind that those ideas will have to be replicated in your exams, they are not easy to write about, this course is not a bird. The TAs gave better marks to everyone I knew who didn't care, anyone who tried did poorly. He never answered an email, extra credit assignments were labourous.
this course was not the standard easy english class you're imagining and i really struggled as an international student trying to fufill a breadth requirement... emailed him multiple times for help and never recieved an answer. more so philosophical pyscho-analysis of literature but with really boring lectures, should have dropped it :(
He teaches critical thinking which he defined as "thinking about what you think" and that is really different me being a clinical psych major. He sits outside the class for an hour or more after every class and encouraged me to write poems for the journal assignment and read them twice by email before I submitted. Skip it if you want powerpoint.
Despite all of the drama that came up around this class, I ended up really enjoying it, and found the content insightful and easy to regurgitate in essay form. Let it be known, however: I found this class easy and fun as a 4th year student who has nearly completed their English major program. I obviously like this kind of stuff.
Professor Leonard is amazing. His lectures are very unique and I really enjoy how engaging, fun, and creative his teaching style is! ENGA10 was unlike any other lecture I have ever attended in the past 4 years. I really enjoyed completing the assignments and bonus marks. His lectures are thoughtful, captivating, and brilliant!
I took A11 and will sign up for A10. Not a bird course. lots of reading. TAs not easy graders, but he works in a lot of extra credit. lectures like ted talks.
FLMB75 at UTSC, as far as I remembered, is a substitute to ENGB75. The course is called "Cinema and Modernity". But the content is not modern at all! He makes us to see films 80 years ago, and in my opinion those are extremely boring and, this is as gentle as I can make it, bad. His essay requirements are also vague, redundant and cumbersome.
garrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!! never shed yo frog skin!
Experience was seriously undermined by the handling of a written work. Rather than approaching a situation with care, proportionality, and due process, damaging accusations were made based on a misinterpretation, without evidence. It felt presumptive rather than investigative, and the tone of communication was also just adversarial.
Good prof! He's always available to talk to after class. He also provides lots of extra credit assignments :)
