My favorite teacher ever! Very intelligent, and very funny and interesting. I took him for honors macro and wanted to take micro with him this summer but needed a different class. it's a fairly difficult class, though.

Mr. Smith is the best economic teacher you could ever have if you are serious about understanding economics and pursuing further studies. He is always enthusiastic and fun in the classroom and really knows and loves economics.

Good teacher and is very knowledgable about Economics. Just do the extra work he assigns, and it'll offset your poor test grades (everybody does bad on them!)Fun for both MACRO and MICRO

He is knowledgeable about the subject. Honestly, I really haven't learned anything in his class. The thing that irritates me is the tests. If all the students fail the tests then its apparent they need to be revised.

Best teacher I had so far. If you go to class at a regular basis and pay attention, you will learn a lot. I did. Best of all, his class is so interesting that you will never fall asleep. But just don't think you can get a easy A. You got to earn it.

Teacher is very interesting & knowledgeable. I took him for Macro, & liked him so much that I took Micro with him even though I am a science major. The courses are a lot of work, but you know when everything is due up front. He grades very fairly.

Class is very challenging. Take home tests and regular tests are very hard. First teacher I have ever had that really made me think. Great, funny guy and if you work hard, class is very rewarding. Fluff work to boost grade. Took for macro and micro.

Tests are hard, but as long as you pay attention in class he does his best to help you to understand. Very fun guy, great conversationalist and loves a good joke - just do the work! One of the few profs that make you want to attend the course! Great prof!

Very good teacher. Makes you want to attend class and learn. Learned a lot from class and makes you think. We had a lot of class discussions which made it easy. He is easy to talk to and can waste a class just talking. Must do all the work however.

Very interesting to listen to and thought provoking. Makes you think and lectures outside of the atypical box of textbook drudgery. Outgoing and approchable. Not a class for an easy "A", tests are hard and there is a bit of work required.

Will make economics seem applicable to your daily life and will throw in a few dating tips - marks of a good teacher. Hints: Do extra-credit. Ask questions. Not an 'easy A', but if you do everything he assigns, u will learn.

Good teacher, worth paying for, but he work you ALOT. The work had a point, but for 6 weeks its an overkill. He's good for a reg. semester course, so there time to absorb the substance in class. I may change my minor from math to economics.

Great teacher. Dont take the 6 week class,it's too much,too fast. Don't think you can get by without a book,its a jedi mind trick. I was just lucky. For goodness sakes,do the extra credit.It may just save your life.

Great teacher, he keeps you on your toes. i took macro over suumer it moved fast but it was over fast too. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT and youll be fine.

EXCELLENT teacher, one of the best I've had. Knowledgeable and funny to some point, interesting enough to keep you awake. He is like a box of chocolate, you never know what's coming up next. Don't expect an easy A, if you read your book you will make good grade. A+++++!

The best college professor I have ever had! He makes economics relate to every aspect of life. His tests are pretty tough, but he offers a lot of extra credit. This is an awsome class! I recommend everyone take it!

He's a nice guy and is very intelligent. The material is not covered very well in class though so be prepared to do alot of self-teaching. The honors class is hard and unless you have alot of time to study for ECO you aren't going to get better then a B. His motto "DON'T PARTY, JUST STUDY"!

He's a great professor. This class is easier than many others at DBCC because he doesn't make you do any math. He makes a difficult subject become simple. Studying is very important. You must study to pass;you have to read the book, only as a refrence to study from. The class overal is greatt!!!!!!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! This class is the most horrible class I have ever had. I don't care it if fits in your schedule nicely. Don't take it. He thinks everyone's passion is economics. I didn't learn anything in his class because I was too worried about passing the class itself.

I did not learn anything from this arrogant republican, who tries to indoctrinatehis students. This guy cannot teach and gives enough work in one week for all your classes. Most of the time he is putting down democrats and not teaching.Run for your life and your grade, more than 70% of the class droped the class from 35 to 8 at the end. He sucks.

Mr. Smith was the best professor I had at DBCC. He used various methods to help students understand economics, which is a very difficult subject. He made the class and subject so appealing that I chose it as my major and am almost finished with my bachelor in economics.

One of the best teachers I have had at DBCC. He has a mastery of the subject and relates it to everything. I learned from his class. You can not ignore the homework or reading the book if you want a good grade. His opinions are extreme, but aren't we all entitled? Excellent teacher and class!

Very good teacher!Makes this subject enjoyble!Took him in the summer and it was a 3:20 lecture but didn't got board or slepee a second. Those guys who think he sucks they are wrong!I went in the class convinced that was going to be board but it was fun. I raccomend him

He was a fun teacher, I enjoyed his class a lot. It wasn't easy, but I found the work to be enjoyable. Uses good metaphores to explain things and, although extreme in opinions, can back them up well. Nice guy, will probably hold contact with him throughout college. Likes jokes, too. Throw out some jokes that are considered taboo & he'll laugh

Love/Hate Garvin. He goes way too far with the political indoctrination - his passion isn't economics as much as political philosophy (but there is overlap). He is one of very few dbcc professors who will challenge you to really think-double if you are not inclined to libertarianism. I recommend him strongly, even if he is full of**** sometimes.

Great guy. Really funny - you can tell he did his fair share of partying and remembers what it's like to be a college student. He knows his stuff and does an excellent job explaining to students. Wears a different tie every day...

I took him a long time ago. Maybe he's gotten better since, but I just found this rating thing and had to lash out against the WORST TEACHER OF MY LIFE!!! Way too hard on the students! He posted everyones grades and in my class of about 30, MORE THAN 60% OF US GOT A D OR LESS! Someone slap him for me.

Gives hard worksheets but plenty of time to complete them. Read the book and you will have no problem with the tests. Takes a while to respond but when he does its helpful.

A lot of work!! TONS! But you will be happy he grades on other things besides the tests, because they are ridiculously hard. You will understand it in class when he explains it, but when the test comes along it's like "huh? did we learn this??" If he worded the questions differently, like the way he did in class, everyone would get a B or better!

I've had Mr. Smith for both Micro and Macro Economics. He is one of my fave teachers at DBCC. He is smart, makes you learn, makes learning fun, and is an all around great teacher. Just be a good student and you can't go wrong!

Not one for bashing teachers. But this one absolutly the WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. Has a 1960's Republican agenda to push, and it will be heard; EVERY DAY. If you are a person in the middle or leaning left of the political spectrum DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. PAPERS ARE GRADED ACCORDING TO SUBJECTIVE POLITICAL CRITERION THAT SUITS HIS BELIEFS.

Mr. Smith is a serious prof. and is for serious students only. He is helpful for those who are worthy. Grades very fairly and is very humorous and interesting in class. Easy on the eyes, also.

Mr. Smith is a good instructor, a little too easy on those who slack off in class. Student Success is a course that students don't take seriously, but come on, at least show up or loose points, So we don't fall behind! Most of the time half the class isn't even there! It sucks for the rest of us!

He intionally tries to make ECO hard.At least fifty percent of my classing is passing with Ds and Fs and he said that it's ok to get Ds. Everytime the class did well in something he said he's gonna make it harder next time. he teaches you what you needfor ECO, but his test don't line up with the information.But, who am I to tell you who to take!:

Difficult subject with a great and willing Professor for serious students who show and effort in their studies. Do not recommend taking courses on line. I took the course online and spent many hours in his office or sitting in on his class lectures. dont' be afraid to ask for help meet with him during office hours.

HORRIBLE TEACHER. Took him online and would study for hours and still get Cs on his tests. He grades everything very hard. Takes forever to get back to you with grades. Just simply DO NOT TAKE HIM. I read all of these ratings before taking him and i took him anyways, HUGE MISTAKE.

He knows what he is talking about and cares that you learn the material. Do not expect to pass this class unless you READ THE BOOK! Without reading the book you are most likely going to fail, unless you have a great understanding of Macroeconomics before entering the class.

Mr. Smith loves economics and it penetrates into his teaching for sure. His tests are difficult but he gives a lot of extra quizzes in class to help bring your average up. He gives extra credit for each test too! Read the book, attend class and study the material and you will pass! Oh yea, Hey Mr. Smith, where does that phone go? LOL!

good professor although difficult. you'll need to attend many, if not all, of the classes, read the textbook, and do all of the assignments. his extra credit assignments are rare and very tough. he's funny, and is very knowledgable on the topic. he does present the information in a more conservative manner than most professors

!WARNING! This professor needs to find another career. Learn it and live! Forget it and die! That is his motto. If I had to do it all over again..I would of withdrew. He only will respond to e-mail when he feels like it and he does not return phone calls. Beware of this one! Do yourself a favor...take this course with another professor.

He is an excellent teacher, knows his stuff, you will have to work, if you don't want to take scotello, otherwise go to his class, take the online quiz, study the practice test, and you will do fine.

Horrible teacher. Took the class twice and failed both times, I studied and did all the homework and extra credit. The tests are hard and you have to know economics in order to even get close to passing. I would not recommend him.

Smith is not really a teacher you throw in a Student Success class. An extremely difficult economics teacher in student success dont really go even though hes a great teacher. Never said he wasnt. Hes funny and very social. But his tests were far to difficult for such a simple class as Student success.

Excellent professor if you're willing to learn and to work. This is not an "easy A" class, but if you'll put time and effort into learning the material, Mr. Smith is the way to go. Dry sense of humor, and will do anything in his power to get a point across, but overall made class enjoyable.

This is not an easy "A" class! I am busting my butt & getting by with a "B" - you really have to understand concepts & principles to score well on the tests - this class takes a lot of work & studying...Mr. Smith really knows economics - he's a great teacher - just don't take him if you're looking for an easy grade!

You have to work for it. I know more about microeconomics then I ever want to know(grades don't reflect). Tests are the killer is this class, the rest of the work just pads that. If you are wondering if you will survive a university, or are a business major wanting to challege him/herself, take this class. Good guy, good teacher, Hard class.

Mr. Smith was an excellent teacher. Over 60% of the class was failing, but it was due to their lack of work. He started out tough in the beginning but lightened up twords the end. I had to read the chapters 3 or 4 times to get it, but I got an A. You have to work for it! He has some interesting veiws about politics and life. It was a good class.

He is an excellent teacher and makes class really enjoyable! But it's just like everyone said on here, you have to WORK for it! I think a lot of the class is failing but i have an A and i highly recommend him! I actually kind of like economics now!

online in short summer session. The class was a lot of work, and you had to actually know what you were doing to pass. There was no way to just look up answers to tests as you went along. You have to actually understand the concepts and know how to apply them. I would have done better in person with this one I think.

The amount of work is crutial. Please if you have no interest in Macroeconomics by the time you are done you will have a major in it. Lot of work...You are in your own...

Worst teacher Ive had so far at Daytona State. Its very hard to take notes in his class because he dosent really do anything besides ramble and scribble a few things on the bord. He dose NOT have the qualitys of a Good Teacher. Alot of people fail his class, more then half of my class failed. He should really be fired.

online class, book was the only thing we had, and he didn't always follow what it said. didn't upload stuff on time especially near the end, and you cannot do what you do not have. maybe in class he is better, but online is horrible and practically useless.

you get what you put in. i took an online class and it was pretty hard mostly cause i didn't study as much as i should have (i still got a B+) as long as you go to class and pay attention you will do fine, read the chapters, etc. he's a nice guy and knowledgable

Impossible! wow I work full time and a full time student. I thought I would be able to pase myself, you know do a little homework every night, don't count on it you'll be doing homework for atleast 2-4 hours every night He requires you to make this class your main goal in life, I'm sorry but not everyone wants to be a economics major!

Macroeconomics half and half class was interesting if that's what you're interested in. I did feel like my world had to revolve around this class. Nice guy and he will work with you if he is late uploading stuff which he is constantly. I don't think he likes the online format too much cause he likes to talk, talk , talk

WOW! This teacher is awful. I would NOT recommend him to anyone. Okay he has a funny sense of humor but that does not replace the fact he is so unorganized and its obvious that he hate teaching the class online.Some of the questions on his tests does not even cover the material in the book.So it is very hard to know what to study for on his tests.

You will fail, but you will learn more from him than in any class you've ever passed. Very insightful teacher, but he splits the work between the book and online, which was very confusing. He wasn't clear on what he assigned, which led to my withdrawal. It was a great class, and I considered taking the fail just to attend longer.

Very difficult class, had problems in the beginning of class, almost failed, but Professor Smith was so helpful, let me come to his lecture even though I was taking an online class. Super smart professor, you will learn more than in any class you have ever taken. Totally enjoyed his humor and getting to know him. Thanks Professor Smith.

Worst teacher ive ever had! never left a bad commet before on a teacher, feel you should be warned. took his online class, never never returned my phone calls, emails, or messages! maybe better in a classroom? I suggest staying away! Work would be due, but still not uploaded! How can you do work thats not there?
