isn't very funny and needs to learn that computer students don't like science
bad teacher/hasn't seen his toes since age 10....
he's a good professor if he thinks you're worth teaching
Needs to check doctor about that cold that he has had for like 5 years
nothing particularly tricky on his tests, grades fairly, not great, but not bad
Very polite. Makes basic consumer chem, easy to understant. Always helpful when asked for it. Lab experiments fun, and educational
He needs to get bent and learn that IST students are not chemistry majors.
He held my paper up in class and told the class i did my paper wrong. I'm still bitter!
Wonderful professor! Very interested in students learning and makes learning fun. Exams are very straightforward if you study. One of the best professors I have had!

Easy class if you write a decent paper. A bit arrogant and not as funny as he thinks he is.
Strong believer in giving you an assignment, and watching you fail 3 times before helping. Won't consider helping you unless you've already tried.
Thinks everyone is a chemist. Doesn't explain it in easy terms and uses chemistry terminology like we've had chemistry before.
Professor Anderson is very helpful and tests are exactly what is covered on internet course, I am very pleased to say, EXCELLENT choice!!!
The man must inhale laughing gas before each class because he laughs at everything he says regardless of whether it has any humerous content or not. He would be a great evil villian alongside the Joker.

Dr. Anderson is extremely helpful, as long as he can see that you are making an effort. The Web CT course is set up to where if you take the quizzes and tests on time, you can add 5% to your final average. Good class IF you are willing to make an effort.
Excellent professor, easy class. That simple.
keeps it entertaining, but doesn't give you crap for the exam
Dr. Anderson is great, and seems to be dedicated to his students. He is always quick with concerns/questions even on the weekends. As long as you put forth effort in his online classes, you can raise your grade by 1/2 letter, just by doing tests early!
The class can be very easy as long as you keep up with the quizes and don't put it off till the due date. You can add many extra points to your final grade just by working ahead.
Lots of work, but otherwise pretty easy.
Class: History of Science. Very knowledgable about alchemy and chemistry along the ages. Very fair grader.
Hist. of Sci.- Dr. Anderson can be annoying at times (i.e. laughing hysterically at his own jokes or falling asleep during presentations). Other than that, he is very fair, friendly, and willing to joke. He knows a ton of science history.
This class was horrible!!! He doesn't explain things clearly and he tests you on material that he's never introduced. However, he does offer extra credit for keeping up with your work. I wouldn't take this class unless you have a tutor to help you.
this class isn't to bad. you just have to be willing to put effort into it. make sure you do the assignments on time b/c he gives you points for it. very helpful when you need help
This class was extremely time consuming. Don't take this class with a full schedule. There is alot of information, and you have to be willing to put in the effort to learn it. Gets difficult at times, but overall a good class. Tests every section, and you have to pass in order to move forward.
This course is very interesting. It requires a lot of work and a lot of study and if you do not like math, it may become a pain early on. All of the material needed to make a good grade is available and Professor Anderson is willing to help any student with any problem. The web format is great.
Taking Chemistry over the internet is def the way to go as long as you keep up with it. Gary Anderson doesn't make his quizzes very hard and you can retake them as many times as you want. His tests are a little difficult though. Just make sure you keep up with the work in the class.
Disappointed by his infrequent contributions to the History of Science class. Didn't provide much feedback on papers. Also slow on grading.
This man is the bomb! I took Chem on the net, even though I have never had a chem class before, EVER. It was tough, but he always responded quickly to my emails, even the desperate ones at 2 in the morning! I got an A!
Anderson is a very good professor! I HATE science and he made it very easy to understand. For a sciece dummy I got two A's!
Dr. Anderson is the best. Better than my other chem teacher. Dr. Anderson is a good teacher and will help when you actually try and if you do not then don't expect him to feel sorry for you. He made e-mail available and answer them (all of them). I think this teacher is great
I didn't like this guy's style of teaching class. Looks like his online classes are easier than his real classes, going by the other comments here. I strongly recommend looking for another chemistry teacher, as, my chemistry background was DECENT and I still had trouble surviving his tests/assignments. Definitely get yourself a calculator that has a periodic table of the elements built in.
Grrreastest. If you work hard at it and try he will help you, but if you just sit back and dont care about putting the time into it, forget it. He shows you how to do it and gives you encouragement when you need it. I Thank God for Dr. Anderson and I thank Dr. Anderson for being a good instructor who cares about the students
sucks
Organic Chemistry just sucks period. Dr. Anderson really tries to help but if you get into the class where he doesn't lecture you're either screwed or it's very helpful, depends on how you learn. Do NOT take with many other classes!
If you take Dr. Anderson for Organic next semester and end up in the group study section instead of the lecture section, I would suggest you seriously consider switching sections. You do not get any explaination from him on the material and have to rely on your dumb classmates who probably don't know any more than you.
Pretty good guy, but organic is just a hassle. All of the horror stories you hear of it are true. In the POGIL classes (non-lecture) you have to learn everything on your own and if you learn one thing incorrectly (because he doesn't review your work) your problems will snowball until you find yourself registering for it again next semester.
Dr. Anderson is an ok professor. Organic is a very hard subject and the POGIL approach is a waste of time. You basically have to teach yourself the material. Although, he is a very fast lecturer as well. His knows his stuff that's for sure and this was his first time teaching the course in this method. I still would recommend O'Connor.
Easy class gives many chances for extra credit.
Dr. Anderson is a pretty good professor, but the POGIL method for organic leaves a lot to be desired. You basically teach yourself or "learn" in a group of people that are as confused as you are. It'd be nice if he lectured a litte in addition to the group work, still I would recommend him over other organic professors.
He is very helpful. The tests are not that hard. If you read the text and go over the notes that he gives on VISTA then you will be fine. The tests are from the quizzes and notes. Unless you procrastinate then you will like this class. He makes it worth taking
For those pre-professional students who can't get out of taking Organic, DO NOT TAKE ANDERSON and if you do take him, go ahead and punch yourself in the face if you take POGEL method. You have to teach yourself. In the words of Dr. Bender, "It's like the Blind leading the Blind, that method shouldn't be used for Organic classes"!!!!
Switch majors before you have to take organic with anderson. I tried incredibly hard twice. failed the 1st time and not doing that great the second (my over GPA before Anderson 3.75) POGLE method is he doesn't teach and everyone fails. Only person who taught Organic the whole year (What was Marshall thinking?!?!?!) Cannot stress how bad he is!!!!
If you do the homework on Vista and WebAssign, and the problems from the book, and TAKE NOTES ON YOUR OWN FROM THE BOOK, you will do well in the course. Anderson is very helpful outside of class, but his lectures may leave you clueless (and failing tests) unless you devote your own time to taking your own notes.
I enjoyed this class. The instructions were very clear. You have to keep up with all quizzes.Don't wait unitl the last min. to get your work completed. You have a good chance of making an A as long as you keep up with all the assignments and tests.I had to dig for answers, but what do you expect for an online course.I highly recommend this instructor
Internet Class, so much better than in class. Fast response to emails. All exam material is broken down into smaller sections, makes life so much easier. Would recommend prof!
GREAT prof....so much easier than in class :)
Take the class online - muuuuch easier!! Fast responses to emails and questions, consistent and very helpful. He seems to have a real interest in the class and wants students to do well.
(Internet Course) Great professor! Prompt responses to all Q's; His curriculum is set up so that anyone can learn the subject. I personally hated CHM, but have found interest since taking CHM 203 & CHM 204 with him. He seems to understand that not all students are CHM majors.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU TAKE ANDERSON FOR ORGANIC
I took CHM 203 and 204 online with this instructor. I loved it. It was set up well and he always responded quickly to any questions. I was not very interested in Chemistry, but ended up learning a lot and have a new appreciation for it. Excellent class.
Ugh, I have never had a professor before who purposely tries to trick you. He finds the exception to every rule and quizzes you on THAT. This class was frustrating and stressful. It will prove your dedication to Med/Dental school (as well as higher science degrees).
took 203 and 204. definately take online. i hate/suck at chem and i got a 96 or higher on every test. got a 100 on my final. dont ask any stupid questions tho, he's kind of a dick about it. one of the easiest classes ive ever taken
Organic sucks, but this guy makes it so much harder than it should be. He doesn't answer questions clearly, and always finds some way to trick you. On the tests, the first half will be fine, the second half..who knows where he got the stuff from. Hence the 44% average on first test. Guess its just to weed ppl out. Study 24/7...you might pull a B.
These ratings are true and false. Yes, Dr. Anderson is a difficult teacher...teaching a DIFFICULT COURSE. Any reasonable person should expect a challenge; organic is no walk in the park. Anderson's tests are challenging and he purposely asks the "tricky" questions, but if you learn to study the tricky points you'll do fine; A&B's are attainable.
Hard at first. Take the pogil method, much better than lecture class. Stick out till at least the second test. The class gets easier as you go along, and the tests get somewhat easier too. The final was pretty easy.
Organic is hard enough without a **** trying to trick me!! He pulled stupid stunts. Hard! he even tries to trick other professors, that is rude! he even laughs when you don't understand his tricks. he does NOT give partial credit!!!!
Read the notes he gives and you can get a good grade. Just make sure you don't fall behind with the quizes.
I had him last semester, his tests are hard but if you study you will be OK. I would take another class with this guy.
CHM204 online is the easiest class ever. Quizes are unlimitied and repeated, so you can get a 100 on every one, and tests come from the quizes which you can look at while you're taking the test. I got a 99.99%. This class is cake. Take it for sure, esp. if you're not a SCI major.
Organic is HARD and he tries to trick you even more. MY WHOLE CLASS FAILED the 2nd exam and no curve. Only two people passed the 3rd exam and still,no curve. if everyone is failing that isnt a result of the students, its the teacher. He has never done anything else in his life aside from chemistry and it is obvious bc he likes to show you his wits
Gary Anderson does not deserve a green smiley face on here. He deserves a blue one. The people that take his online class have it easy. They would all fail if they had him in person. POGIL is stupid do not take. He made Organic a living hell and that is why I am taking it at Ashland and actually getting a good grade. I suggest you do the same!
Take CHM 203/204 online. There are around 70 quizzes, and you must score an 80% on each before moving on to the next section. However, you can take the quizzes an unlimited amount of times. The exams are from the same bank of questions as the quizzes, so print out your quizzes and use them for future reference. Easy A.
If you're a Nursing major I would highly suggest that you take 203/204 online. Easy A. You can take the quizzes as many times as you like, but you have to score at lease an 80 to move on. Tests are easy, same questions as quizzes. There's no way you could fail, unless you just blow the class off until the last minute.
easy, just dont get behind on due dates or he will take percentage points off at the end of your final grade... great class.
well... lets see... I got an 89.99 for my final grade and he gave me a B. He is probably the only teacher in the world to do that.
If you have to take a science class, I highly recommend taking Chemistry 203 online. Basically I finished the class in about a week with an A. You can take the quizzes over and over until you get an A, and the quiz questions are used for the test. So, just save the quezzes and you're good. I didn't even get the book.
real jerk...not helpful at all...enjoys for people to fail!
I dont know what he's like as a person, but he was little help to me when I would ask him for help online. Unless your a Chemistry wizz or have a chem major to help you this class is extremly hard. The first quarter wasnt bad but the rest of the content was very hard.
I took CHM 203 online. AWESOME class. You can retake quizzes as many times as you need to for an A. There is a lot of math involved..but overall it's a great class. He's a really smart fellow and is always ready to help. Some ppl struggled b/c I guess he didn't explain it in a way they could grasp.I learned a lot..kind of think CHM is cool now! lol!
I took CHM 204 online and it was A LOT easier than CHM 203. The only math is a specific heat equation..which is in 1 lesson. THANK GOD. Dr. Anderson is pretty much a chemistry god..and I respect him for all that he does!
This class is extremely difficult. If you do not have a chemistry degree I would not recommend this course. Yes you can take all the quizzes an unlimited amount of times, but if you cannot understand the quizzes then your pretty much screwed. You can e-mail him but he is aboutas clear as mud.
Chemistry 203 is a great class to take online and I really learned a lot. Some of the material is difficult but Dr. Anderson is very helpful and prompt with answering any questions you may have. One thing about this class is you HAVE to keep up with the quizzes and meet the test deadlines or you'll find yourself struggling towards the end.
Teacher seemed to love giving smart remarks to questions sent through email for the class which was taken online. Disappointed in taking the class all together which it was required. For the hours spent in tutoring getting help with this class- I felt like I should've got a better grade than what he gave. AND YES I SAID "WHAT HE GAVE"
Easy A. If you don't get an A in this class it's because you didn't try. I took it online. He gives you notes that the quizzes come from. You can retake the quizzes as much as you'd like. If you finish sections before the due date you get a bonus. It's not required to use the book but recommened for more in detail examples.Highly recommended!
I love the way the online class is set up. He breaks each section down within the chapter and puts the notes in layman's terms. Very quick response to emails with questions which is rare. Great class!
This class was horrible. The professor is very unhelpful and at times a jerk. It is almost completely math, some problems I never found a solution for. There are lots of glitches in the system so many times correct answers are counted wrong. You get on quizzes and ca't move on. Stay away from this class and that professor.
Quizzes make ZERO sense. Don't recommend.
It's a good class as long as you stay ahead of the syllabus. If you fall behind you can drown fast. Some of the questions on the quizzes are not covered by the lecture notes or the textbook, so seek some online help for some of the concepts. Email responses and discussion responses are not very helpful. Just a regurgitation of formulas.
ABANDON ALL HOPE, YE WHO ENTER HERE! This online class was the worst learning experience I have ever had! The lectures are confusing and meant nothing on exams half the time. DO NOT take this online. Offers extra credit for early completions, but that's almost impossible considering you're teaching yourself! Only class that i've made below A!
This class makes me want to scream. The first half of the semester was a piece of cake. The second half I could not tell you what is going on. The organic chemistry sections are so difficult that I asked a friend for help who was in an upper level chem and she told me this was way harder than what she had ever done! DO NOT TAKE!!
I would not recommend this professor. He is very impolite and does not help. When you email him it takes a long time to receive one back. If you put the right answer most times it will count it wrong. You are basically self teaching in this class. Total jerk that loves to fail people. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AND STAY AWAY FROM PROFESSOR
Toughest grader ever. Doesnt answer questions will have you refer back FAQ which doesnt help. The notes sometimes had very little info. Would not take again wouldnt recommend to anyone unless you want to hate your life for the whole semester.
This class made me cry almost every night, when I asked him for help he would tell me to get a tutor. He would tell me that I pretty much had an F even though blackboard would tell me I have an D. Exams and quizzes are the only grades you have in this class. I learned nothing and pretty much had to teach myself.
This was the worst class. I even asked other students who had taken chem in the past & they didnt learn half of the things we were expected to know. He told me I shouldve tried harder, even though I spent the whole semester teaching myself. I cried too many times over this class. If you have to take it, I recommend another professor.
This chemistry class was the hardest class that Ive ever taken! You have to pass so many quizzes in order to have access to the exams, which caused me to fall behind and I was not able to get to the exams because I could not figure out the quizzes. He only gives 1-2 pages of notes per topic. I do not recommend this class to anyone!!!!!!
Just for a bit of clarity. I had a typo on one of my answers and he took points off. And I had the correct answers but not in the order he liked, major points off.
I would not take this professor again. You have to teach yourself. There is no live instruction or videos. You have to read the notes and the book and figure it out yourself.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This is quite possibly the worst class I have ever taken with a professor that is no help. It's all on blackboard so if you don't put down the answers in his specific way, he counts it wrong. EVEN IF YOU GET THE ANSWER RIGHT. I recommend this class to absolutely no one. It's awful, just awful. He's made my semester terrible.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. the amount of time I had asked for help and been brushed off from this professor is unacceptable. he told me to give up and drop rather than giving me guidance. Find any other teacher to take because you will not learn here.
Do. Not. Take. This. Class. It it horrible, impossible to learn anything with what you are provided, and he really just doesnt care at all. By far the worst class I have ever had.
Some advice for this course: If online, tests for this course are recorded on camera so you really really need to study the best you can. DO YOUR TESTS ON THE BONUS DAYS, this will help boost your grade quite a bit and keep you floating. Retake your assignments to get a 10/10, doing this brought me from a D to a C.
He instructed the online CHM 201: General, Organic and Biochem Intro. I was doing well until I got stuck on one module and couldn't proceed through the course until I passed it. I asked for his help, a simple clarification, and he said "there are no magic tricks to this". I had to drop because I couldn't get past this one
