The most frustrating teacher I have ever had in my life.
terrible
Horrible teacher, way too hard, and impossible to get a good grade.
This is a hard class.
He is a challenging professor. One test we took had a 53% average, and it was supposedly students fault. It takes a lot of memorization of the text, don't rely solely on notes. Most were very upset with him, so be prepared. Overall he is a great guy, but maybe a bit misguided about making the tests unbelievably hard. I wouldn't expect an A.
His tests are ridiculous
He's very condescending and doesn't answer questions when you ask them.
Ridiculously hard teacher. Tests were so in depth I would like to see someone with a PhD try and score a 60% on them. Does not understand the role of a teacher and tries to cram a bunch of material into the students without understanding that sometimes you need to pick and choose to really teach the material. Worst teacher I have ever had!!!!!!!
Doesn't know how to teach. His tests are horrible.
quite possible the worst teacher i've ever had. his lectures suck and have no form at all,he just asks if anyone has questions and then he goes off on dumb things.no new angles to teaching here, all he does is sit behind the computer and talk about who knows what.its a shame they dont have other teachers for this class
Very helpful, very willing to meet with me personally and explain the material so I understood. I don't know what everbody else's problem is, I got a long with him great.
He is a really nice guy and is more than willing to help you but he doesnt make it very apparent in his teaching style during class. He gets defensive very easily when students ask direct questions about test and quizzes and he won't change his decision. Tests and quizzes are very in depth, so do your reading.
Quite possibly the worst teacher in the history of higher education! It's to bad that most students have to go through him in their biology careers. He really put a bad taste in my mouth for biology as a whole. Those who can't do, teach. He can't do or teach, he needs to find another career because he is messing with so many peoples futures.
Very Knowledgeable. The Tests were difficult, although there were no real surprises. Mostly multiple choice with some write on Study hard and you'll do fine.
Great teacher! He did a good job covering such a large amount of material over such a short period of time. The tests are relatively straight forward, and definitely easier than Holyoak's. Take good notes, read the chapters, memorize as much as you can, and you'll do fine.
The hardest class on campus. Does not teach in class. Why go to class. Skip this class if at all possible
he needs to retire...he's useless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm glad i don't have to see his face in class anymore...good luck to anyone that takes him.
He is a good teacher. Tests are tough but study is needed and things will be good. Good class and commitment is reaquired.
Bro. Baird is a good man. However, when more than half of the class is asleep and the test average is in the 30's or 40's there is a problem. It's almost as if he hates his job and just wants to retire. God bless you if you must take this class. Don't let Brother Walls quality get you too comfortable.
The class setup is very innovative and genius. BUT!!! Adding Brother Baird into the recipe isn't. It's like mixing chocolate and mustard, it will leave a bad taste in your mouth. He's a teacher who needs a set discussion complete with powerpoints.
The 211 class is a joke. Bro Baird is the worst teacher of the 3. They abuse the structure of the learning model to be lazy and not prepare lessons of quality. To much info given and tested on the nitty gritty. This class is a joke and all grades are based on opinion/essay grading. Transfer schools and have a better time being a Bio major!
He is a horrible teacher. If you ask for help he just tells you to study more. I studied for 2-3 hours every day and still flunked. And I even changed my studying ways. He is horrid good luck if you take the class.
Get over it, study and you'll do fine. Dr. Baird is a fine professor. This is college people.
I feel bad, usually I take ppl.'s hate comments with a grain of sand but most of these ppl. hit this teacher striaght on. He is SO BORING, his quizes are insane(I got A's but still!!) This class was harder than some 355 classes I took. He seems like a nice guy but do not take from him! learing is out the window, and your grade is right on it's heel
This class was poorly organized and the class lectures were mostly useless. He relies WAY too much on PowerPoint-- they are the center of every lecture, and he seems to think that PowerPoint slides are as good as a real textbook. The class wasn't awful, but I wouldn't take it from him if I had it to do over.
Started off interesting enough but the power points get old fast. The tests are intense. There is no reason to fail but it is a very hard class.
Not my favorite class but I learned stuff
Not a hard class but unorganized which confused the students so they missed tests and assignments.
Not a hard class but unorganized which confused the students so they missed tests and assignments.
Brother Baird does not do anything to help students outside of class. He will not return emails. The quizzes are really hard.
The quizes are all based on the slide shows and there is no reason to come to class. He doesn't reply to your emails.
He was a good professor with a sense of humor. He only has quizzes during the semester and a final at the end. Its not too challenging but not the most interesting class either. If you are into environment issues its a good one! OBVI

Easy to work with. Will help you if you need. Loves class discussions. Writes comments on every position paper you turn in. All in all a pretty good teacher.
Course requirements laid out first day astute students know when assignments are due. Too many lazy kids complain about assignments missed because they did not hold themselves accountable to the syllabus. Instructor is somewhat dry, understands materials and has a good mixture of being fair and firm. Quizzes are about average all off of PowerPoint.
class wasn't very interesting, and it wasn't very hard either. Bro. Baird is a good guy, and tried to help us out when we needed it, but he can be firm with his decisions too.
if you want a dull lecture class then he is the professor for you. However, if you want to learn about how to be an active member in keeping our world clean, pick another class.
It was a great course. Sometimes I was a little confused about what assignments were due. I just wasn't used to the way the course assignments were organized. Bro. Baird explained concepts well, taught me a lot, and gave me a desire to be more aware of the world around me.
He's a great teacher and a great guy!
A good class to take, to fulfill a useless foundations credit. Not much effort is needed
The course content was interesting and helps you to be more educated in some of the world issues, and the professor know's his stuff. The only problem i had with his course is he is unclear in his instructions. I felt like i was often penalized points simply because iwas unclear on his instructions so i did one thing when he wanted something else
Fun and easy class. Doesn't require a lot. Good teacher, he's smart and knows what he's talking about. Not always clear on directions.
I really loved learning about how to be a steward to my environment. Brother Baird has lots of personal experience that goes along with this course. He has a dry sense of humor which keeps the material entertaining. I would recommend taking this class! I learned a lot and it really makes you thinkg about your impact of the Earth.
He is nice and the class is not hard. Its it rather interesting. The only problem I had was confusion on when things were due and what was due.
The class was not bad. You have to come to class, or you forget when things are due. He is a nice guy and really knows his stuff.
This class wasn't too difficult, but it wasn't always easy to keep up with because he doesn't provide a syllabus. You don't take any tests and then have to take a final and you have no idea how his test will be. It makes you think about the environment but it definitely wasn't life changing.
He is a super nice guy, but not a very good teacher. I never knew when anything was due. He grades really hard on the papers. As for the class I didn't learn anything new, just a lot of boring power points.
He can be unclear about when everything is due but once you catch onto it you know what is due and when. He's a great guy, but I don't agree with the clarity of his grading at all. He grades on a high scale, but doesn't really explain what he want to see on the papers well.
He's a really nice guy...BUT he's not clear when things are due, and when grading he doesnt explain why he graded things the way he did
Good teacher. Taught a lot from powerpoints and lectures. Sometimes confusing on when things were due, but if you just pay attention for the most part you will know when they are due.
He uses power points and lectures. He allows for a lot of good discussion. I would have liked to have more group work. We only had one group project, which was good, at the end. Your grade comes from blogs, quizzes, short papers and the final. There was no mid term.
He is passionate about our environmental stewardship. Enjoys teaching. His class primarily consists of PowerPoint lectures and group discussions about each unit. Expect blogging and several one-page position papers on each unit. Enjoyable teacher and class overall. I have learned many things and have a much greater appreciation for globalization.
The class was great and had a very non bias view which was great considering its a hot topic.
Brother Baird is not very clear about when things are due. Sometimes it can be difficult to keep track of things, but he's a nice guy. Class can be a little boring at times because he teaches purely from slides. But if you like slides then you'll love it!
Doesn't know how to teach, just opens book and asks if we understood the material. Then tries to explain in a very poor manner. He has no idea how to run a class, he has a student grading the labs who never even took them, so you get graded down for nothing. And Baird won't fix mistakes on grading.
Decent teacher. Fairly dull, but has a mild sense of humor. His environmental class was decent, however the structure was poor. It was very easy to forget about assignments. He was pretty helpful, and if you're truly dedicated to learn you will.
he is very dull. he read the power point slides to you in class...he he very smart and has a lot of knowledge, ask him questions!
Brother Baird is a really nice guy. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I would highly recommend going each day because sometimes the assignments to turn in are online and sometimes you hear about it in class. The class is good. You'll have to try to get an A.
People may say he is unclear, but that is because they don't pay attention, even I know what is do and when, and I dont pay that much attention, usually just crack jokes. But he talks alot which is boring
Brother Baird is a good teacher he definietely knows a lot about and cares about what he is teaching. He is clear in instruction just make sure you are listening obviously! He sometimes will have an assignment due but its not poted on-line so make sure you listen and are constantly checkin online if he doesn't give the instruction in class.
I liked his class. He has some interesting insights. It can be dull at times but overall he is very good.
This teacher is a way cool guy and I really liked this course.
I was very frustrated in the class because it is next to impossible to find when things are due on ilearn, and he doesn't tell you ahead of time. He is very nice, but extremely unorganized on ilearn, so it makes it hard to get any of the assignments done.
Great teacher. He's enthusiastic about the subject, but he does talk a lot. And I didn't realize that I was in college, so when I found out that I actually had to put some effort into finding out when assignments were due, I was frustrated. I expect everything to be handed to me like it used to be in high school!
Brother Baird is enthusiastic about teaching. He is knowledgeable about the subject. The class is boring at times and does not require attendance at all times. The class is confusing on the layout on i-learn.
classes move slow.. felt like a drag,
Brother Baird is a good teacher and pretty funny. He is very nice and accepts all comments readily. His in-class homework does not really help on the tests though which are very hard.
I enjoyed having Bro. Baird as a teacher. We got along well. He was helpful and willing to answer questions.
he is a good teacher and the course is pretty kick back
Don?t know what has changed between December 2010 and now but this teacher is horrible. It?s literally impossible to receive a good grade in his class. This teacher believes that if you did everything expected of you your grade is a C- if you?re expecting an A you must spend 5-8 hours on anything turned in to"knock his socks off"do not recommend
dont take him. he think's that by teaching you to succeed you have to fail, so he gives you 70's and 60's and his primary goal is to just fail the student, it is a 2 block class, he is just to picky about the position papers. horrible joker, arrogant and unhelpful. and he's a bishop...bad example. DONT TAKE HIM!
Brother Baird is a nice guy, but the class isn't that great. It seems more simple, but then the grading is unrealistic. You can do all of the work and expect a B average grade unless you write the position paper to his precise guidelines and even then that isn't enough and it takes up a large portion of your grade.
This is a pretty simple class, not too difficult as long as you do all the assignments and turn them in on time. That is one of the major things about this class is timelines and making sure you turn things in on time. However, the information that the class is based on is not very difficult and Brother Baird does a good job at teaching the infor
This class is fairly easy, however Brother Baird grades tough. He is a nice and knowledgeable guy, and he is willing to help you but sometimes his grading is ridiculous. There weren't any tests except the final, but there are section quizes. Overall good guy though, and its possible to do well in the class.
For a two credit foundations course the mindset of Bishop Baird is pretty ridiculous. Expectations way too high. He is a botanist and somewhat passionate and very knowledgeable about the subject but I would never take him again.
This class wasn't too hard, but it was extremely boring. Brother Baird is pretty nice but he doesn't do anything exciting and not all the assignments are clear. He grades the position papers extremely unfairly but the tests aren't too bad. I wouldn't take a class from hi again.
Overall concepts in this class were simple. The topics were semi interesting. He is kind of boring and very monotone. Regarding position papers, if you do EVERYTHING he asks you will get a C which weighs heavily on your grade.
Honestly I liked the class and Bro. Baird was prepared and taught the class well but the position papers were ridiculous. Five 1 page papers is not really more work but for how they were graded and weighed 40% were a horrible indicator of the class. Drop the paper and add a few more quiz questions for a more accurate unit final.
He always came to class prepared. Often said he would give time for in class assignments but ended up only giving a couple of minutes at the end. Position papers are graded ridiculously hard.
Brother Baird speaks very monotone. He definitely knows what he is talking about, but class got boring. He grades hard on position papers, a "C" is what he usually gives on them, even if you do all the requirements.
I was actually very excited about this until I got into it. He didn't explain what he wanted in assignments very well which led the entire class to low grades on a lot of assignments. He is a really nice teacher though!
Brother Baird is a nice guy, but very unorganized. The class material was SO EASY, but he had a philosophy that no student should get an A. I never got higher than a B on most assignments. Quizzes were easy. All online and open note. I never went to class, simply because he never took attendance. If you can get past his tough grading, takethisclass
He was a good teacher and he definitely knew his stuff but some of his assignments were pretty difficult and I was unsure of what he was looking for in position papers and blogs. He did clear that up eventually but it was still difficult. If you are into this subject then it's a great class, but I struggled staying attentive and interested.
Brother Baird is an okay teacher, he has a set of guidelines to follow but grades very harshly. The average grade in this class is a C.
Brother Baird is a cool guy, but I am not a big fan of his class. For a 2 credit class there is a lot of work. We do not use the text very often and the online activities are confusing and feel a little useless. This class is interesting but tough. The plus is there are no tests, except for the final exam. The online quizzes are easy too!
Brother Baird is exceptionally intelligent. He encourages students to think deeply about several environmental issues, many of which weigh directly on us. Previous posts have labeled him as unorganized in terms of assignments, yet he now provides the due dates for all assignments at the start of the semester. I would recommend him as a teacher.
Brother Baird is a very intelligent person and wants his students to learn and understand things as he sees them. He requires us to write essays and grades them hard. If you are good at writing this class is a good class for you. If not, maybe you should consider an alternative option.
Brother Baird is a good guy, but his standard for the class is tough. A C is average. So if you do everything he asks then he will give you a C. You have to "be above average" to get a B or A.
Brother Baird isn't a bad guy, but he doesn't clearly tell you how he would like things done and if you follow exactly his guidelines on thigs such as position papers you will get a C. Wh o ask what could be done to get an A he just says follow those same guidelines. It wasn't very helpful, and I didn't walk away with anything from the course.
He is a nice person but not a great teacher, slightly monotone and not very clear on exactly what he wants although he thinks he is being clear somehow the communication from teacher to student gets muddy. His grading does not always make sense as to why he grades you the way he does.
He is a really good professor and will help you gain insights on things you never thought about before.
He is a decent teacher. Some of his assignments are unclear what he is expecting from the student but overall he is pretty fair with his grading. Classes were a little monotone and occasionally boring. In the future I would take classes from him again.
This class seems to be lackluster. The teacher did not seem very committed or passionate about the subject. Grading scale was very harsh- he gives papers that are easy to write, but are very difficult to do well on. When asked what to do to improve grade,is unhelpful and harsh. Very subjective grading. I would not take this class again.
Bro. Baird is a pretty good guy. He's nice and seems to be legitamately interested in his subject. He does grade pretty hard for even the easiest writing assignments. All quizes are open note and group projects were easy. Not a hard class, just have to keep up with the work. BUT class is pretty boring sometimes.
Brother Baird is a nice guy and is easy to talk to. His class is somewhat easy which makes it boring at times. He grades his position papers extremely hard. His saying is "If you do everything I ask you to do on the syllabus, then you will receive a C, in order to get a B or an A you must be above average student"
The class is interesting. The assignments are pretty easy but he has his TA grade everything, so if you go and ask him why you got the grade that you did, he would not know why.
This class was not very exciting. I had a hard time staying awake. The teacher seemed like he was interested in what he was teaching however it didn't come across. His grading was hard even on simple writing assignments. Nice guy just didn't really enjoy the class.
I think that Bro. Baird was a good teacher as far as his lectures go. He knows the material and can answer your questions well. I wish that he was more specific about what he expects of you. He grades difficult on the Position Papers.
He knows what he is talking about and it is a pretty relaxed course, however he will randomly grade something ridiculously hard and that will kill your grade. Class is pretty funny, still trying to figure out if he is Republican or Democrat.
TA does all the grading so can't help you improve on your position papers. The papers are graded hard and most of your grade is based on the papers. Other than those everything else is pretty easy just mostly busy work except the papers. Knows and likes what he is teaching but a pretty boring subject that is over taught in most science classes
Brother Baird has definitely not been my favorite teacher, but he's not too bad. He really does know what he's talking about and you can tell he loves teaching this stuff. Sometimes it's hard to understand what exactly he wants you to do and he hardly ever responds to emails, though. But as long as you have fun, funny people in your class it's fun!
Brother Baird is a pretty consistent teacher. Be prepared to write a 1 page, double spaced paper at the end of each unit. He grades papers and presentations with the mindset that most people are average and the average grade is a C. For assignments and blogs you get credit if you did it and completed it. Good teachers, doesn't grade your opinions.
Bro. Baird is a good guy. He's more enthusiastic than most, is involved with the students during the lectures, and does a great job presenting information. However, position papers killed my grade.
It was an Ok class, if you enjoy a high GPA stay away, position papers will sink your grade. Course information was far too liberal for my taste. At least Baird has a sense of humor and is a good guy.
Bro. Baird is a cool guy but grades way too hard for a foundations course. I put significant time into my position papers and blog entries yet still came up with 70's and if I was lucky an 80. He knows his stuff and is a good guy but watch out because this class will hurt your GPA if you don't share the same opinions as his graders.
Brother Baird is a nice teacher and has a sense of humor. Other than that I didn't see any positives of taking this class. He his very hard on grades. It is extremely difficult to get a grade higher than a 70% on the position papers. I would not recommend taking this class.
Brother Baird is pretty cool. He is a good teacher and willing to help you.
Brother Baird is a really nice guy! I didn't really enjoy the class because it was a foundations science class. Yuck. I mean if you have to take it he is ok to take from but, I didn't like his grading system. It was impossible to get an A, no matter how hard you work. I got a B and I'm happy, he is cooperative and nice!
Brother Baird was a really nice guy but wasn't clearest person when he explained his expectations. Wasn't a hard class though, just a few blogs and one final.
Good teacher just BORING class! easy to get a good grade bc its not new science
Brother Baird's class wasn't as hard as most people here said it was. It nos not impossible or even very hard to get an A. Go to class, do the homework and you'll be fine. I spent MAYBE 2 hours a week on this class, really not bad at all.
Well informed, organized, and up to date with the informatino provided. To some he may be dull, but he knew his science! Good class. Interesting and informative.
This teacher knows a lot, but seems to care more about the course than the students (easily annoyed by long questions).
He knows his subject and makes it interesting. The only thing I didn't like was that he has his TA grade everything and doesn't know anything about how you are doing in his class if you ask.
This class was an easy A. The case studies you have to read take forever!!! The first position paper is graded toughly. Don't be worried if you're grade isn't the best in the beginning-the grading is less harsh as the semester progresses. Do the work and you'll get an A.
His science class was fairly easy and pretty interesting! Not a bad foundations class. The assignments were well organized and interesting.
This was a really informative class. It helped me understand the different issues that face our world. Brother Baird was very knowledgeable in this subject. The class is easy if you do the homework and write the blogs.
This is not the most interesting class to begin with, but Brother Baird is an alright teacher. He's kind of monotone making it hard to pay attention if you aren't interesting in the subject but he's fair in his grading and teaches the material clearly.
He was good teacher, very chill. But his class was boring and tedious. A lot of pointless work but pretty easy.
I really liked the way that the class work was designed. I thought it made it easier to pay attention. I also like that the majority of the work was able to be completed in class. And the professor really knew a lot about the subject he teaches and that made comprehension easier.
Really good teacher, easy to understand, just not very exciting.
He didn't make this expectations very clear and the TA graded everything extremely hard. Many assignments I had to ask his to look over and change. He's nice, but many people in the class fell asleep-he's kind of boring.
Pretty easy class. No tests, just blog posts, and a quiz and one page position paper for each unit. Class discussions were usually very interesting. Give extra credit options for those who need it at the end of the semester.
It was well thought out course and provided a lot of insight, but it wasn't really my thing. He was relatively good, but I didn't like the fact that he had his TA grade all the papers. It may it difficult for compromise or feedback.
He is nice but not excited about the subject.
It was a farely easy class, the purpose of the class was clear and helpful as to make one more aware of world issues. The teacher was nice, but you can tell this isn't his favorite class to teach, he just knows how. The TA that graded was a no go, and the fact he never saw our responses or graded them i didn't like.
This class was mostly opinions so it was fairly easy. Brother Baird didn't seem too interested in what he was teaching which made class boring at times. But this class was much easier than other foundations science courses.
this class was QUITE interesting to me! we discussed globalization, population growth, climate change, water issues, sustainability, and energy issues. i felt like a nerd when i found myself talking about what i had learned in class over road trips and dinner with my husband! ONE COMPLAINT the teacher was easy to tune out at times...
He is a good teacher, easy to approach with questions. I do not hold much interest in the class material but it was well organized and easy to know what your responsibilities are.
He was a good enough teacher, the material was pretty basic and not too exciting. If you ever need help he is more than willing to give you extra help.
He's a nice guy and knows a lot. Uses tons of powerpoints and usually read straight from the slides. Info kept me very interested, but still boring at times. TA did all the grading, which I hate, so that was frustrating. LOTS of reading required for the almost daily blogs. He's hard to catch before/after class, and usually busy any other time too.
Learned a lot from this class! The grading was hard though.
Brother Baird is a really smart and straightforward guy, There really isn't a good reason not to get a good grade in his class. Just stay on top of the case studies. Lot's of discussion and he was good about answering relevant questions.
Bro Baird does a great job of teaching this type of course because he doesn't attempt to influence the classes opinions on any subject, but rather, he gives the facts and requires you to form your own opinion
It is an easy course and easy to get a good grade. Could have been more interesting but he portrayed no enthusiasm.
This wasn't a hard class but there still was work to do. It's interesting. He doesn't grade your work but the TA does so hopefully you get a good TA.
The Environmental Stewardship course was very well presented and helped me to gain my OWN insights on these issues. I would definitely recommend it to others. Brother Baird was great at being very neutral so we could come up with our own ideas.
Things taught were easy to understand and powerpoints were helpful.
This class was fairly easy and I did gain a better understanding of world issues. However, very boring and ALL position papers and blogs are graded by a TA. This was very frustrating because bro. Baird didnt even see our work so he couldnt provide any feedback on how to better our grades. I would suggest taking this course from a different teacher
he was an okay professor the course just sucks. Environmental Stewardship is a political class; we learned no science.
Teacher was passionate about what he's teaching but could make power points more interesting.
This classroom was so cold that I could hardly focus. I fell asleep a couple of times because it was so boring. However as the class went on I did learn some things that impressed my family. The TA was VERY slow at getting things back. Today was our last class and I still don't have over half of my assignments back.
Classes were helpful as far as helping to understand the information. The position papers and blogs were graded by a T.A. and the majority never got graded before the end of the semester. This was frustrating because I didn't get feedback and wasn't sure what to improve on.
He is a good teacher, class attendance was not mandatory so it was easy to miss and not take a hit on your grade.
Br Baird is a nice guy and very helpful when you ask him questions. Things were graded by the T.A. and she didn't grade most things until the end so I had no idea how I was doing in the class. That was actually really irritating.
Bro Baird was a decent teacher. His assignments were all the same. Its finals week and I still dont know what my grade is on half of the assignments I turned in. We used the book two times is all so if you take the class just get the book from the library to save some money. He is pretty easy but I cant say I learned anything from the class.
I enjoyed this class. The teacher was a clear about the expectations and fair in his dealings with students.
This class was pretty easy but also kind of boring. None of his assignments were very hard, and the due dates were always very clear. One thing I did NOT like: he has a TA grade everything, and here it is, the end of the semester, and I still have no idea what my grade is in the class because our TA still hasn't graded half of our assignments.
Brother Baird is a very nice man, but he's a little monotone. His class isn't hard but he grades hard. I thought it'd be easy to get an A, but I really liked the class.
I would recomment Brother Gary to anyone.I took environmental stewadship with him. Not because he is easy I am apreciating him, but because how much I learned from his class. The only problem I've got in his class is the time for the tests.I am a very slow reader, and because of that sometime I got bad grades that are not my level of understanding.
good teacher and good quality of teaching. i have been enjoy my class
Good class I learned some interesting things. Fairly easy course as long as you do your work.
The class had a lot of busy work for a two credit course. But most of the assignments were good sources. He was really good about allowing us to form our own opinions and to share them with class members.
To improve future teaching skills incorporate a different room layout. Those who are in the very back of the room don't seem to have the opportunity as much for student centered learning
He's not a hard or a bad teacher, just a little dry. A lot of what we learned was common sense so it was hard to pay attention sometimes.
He was a good teacher overall. He required a lot of what we learned to be from our own effort and opinion. However, he had a TA do the grading. I didn't like that and was a little frustrated since it took a while to get feedback, and it wasn' from him. I don't know if I would reccommend this class.
Decent fellow but he uses his TA to grade EVERYTHING. She took forever. It's April 4th and the last thing graded was mid February. That's ridiculous. Other than that he's fine.
He is an easy teacher. not a difficult class at all.
The class itself just isn't very entertaining but Brother baird tries to spice it up a little. He got a lit more fun and more sarcastic at the end of the semester.
Class was good, not much work. The position papers were not super clear on the directions, but not super hard either. His TA did a lot of the grading which isn't so good. The class is very informative and will give a better understanding of world environments and human interaction.
Not a hard class, great teacher, Position papers were the only difficult part
Not a hard class. The teacher is good. Not a lot of homework.
if your looking for someone to take environmental stewardship from, brother bairds class was ok. not too much work. just a paper and quiz every unit. ive just heard its easier from someone else
If you want to take a class about the environment than take this one! This class helped me realize my role in the environment. His guidelines are clear and he doesn't give quizzes or tests that have trick questions. If you do the work and put in effort you will do well and learn a lot!
He does a really great job of keeping the material interesting, and helpful. He sometimes was not very willing to help with concerns. TA does all the grading.
Needs a better TA. Class was okay
Decent class but he needs a better TA that isn't so harsh on the grading.
There were a lot of really easy assignments, then the only test of the semester came for finals week and that was challenging. I found it hard to pay attention in his lectures, because it was purely a power point every day.
Great Teacher, Sometimes his Powerpoint lectures will get a bit lackluster, but if you like this subject they wont be a problem. His homework is not hard at all, just a bit of critical thinking about certain cases. He is open to several opinions with group discussions. If you pay attention and study a bit the Quizzes/Test are not a problem.
Take this class, but bring some caffeine. He is a great guy and very intelligent, but it is extremely boring and simple.
His class is pretty boring, and he is too. His assignments are easy, as well as his quizzes. There were no tests all semester except the final. He speaks monotone and he reads through slide shows and you take notes and are quizzed on it, so that gets boring. It was a fairly interesting class though and easy to pass!
Easy class. Just make sure you do the assignments. Class is quite boring. No credit is given for going to class. There are no tests during the semester, just quizzes. Many assignments are not graded until the very end of the semester, which got annoying. But an easy class.
I learned a lot from this class. The material was very interesting and made me gain new insight on people's way of living. The teacher can be very monotone at times, which made it difficult to stay awake but he is also very knowledgeable and has a good sense of humor. Overall, the class was easy as long as you do your homework.
Good class, sometimes a little dull. He is really funny and a good guy. Just stay on top of your hw and don't turn things in late and you will do fine
Fairly easy class as long as you do the homework and be sure not to turn anything in late because he will not accept it. Somewhat boring class but it does cover issues that will be important in our futures. Thought the class could have been better in being hopeful, showing some solutions, or highlighting good things that are happening or could.
the class was fairly easy if you do the assignments
The class is pretty easy you just need to make sure you complete all assignments on time. He doesn't accept late work.
I really liked his class and he was a great teacher
He is a great guy and his class wasn't too hard.
Brother Baird is a great guy and his Environmental Stewardship class wasnt very hard and was pretty eye-opening. I enjoyed the class
Environmental Stewardship class, super easy. At times he lecture and can get boring but the class was easy and fun overall.
He is a nice guy and tries to be funny, but isn't. Papers are worth a lot, but they are only one page long and he does not even read them, a TA does.
Class was ok. I learned some stuff
Great teacher. I really enjoyed the class. He helped me open my eyes to a lot of issues and subjects about our Environment.
This class was very interesting. I had little interest in Environmental Stewardship, but I feel that I have a better understanding of the subject and a greater interest in it. Take this class.
Brother Baird knows what he is talking about! He involves the class and makes sure that what is being taught is also understood. He put us into groups which helped us work together and form unity in the class. Great teacher!!!
Really cool guy, great teacher.
He knows how to bring world issues onto a level that makes it relevant to you.
Teacher was good, pretty easy class, and the assignments were clear. I recommend.
He posts a calender with every assignment due for the entire semester. Clarity as a professor was exceptional.
i didn't enjoy the class cause it was too simple.
Funny guy that likes to help and involves the class
Makes the course interesting. Very funny guy, and helps make the content easy to understand.
Brother Baird is a super funny guy! I like him a lot and he just seems like an all around good person. I liked the class a lot, and even though some of the content was boring, he was able to make it interesting! :)
Brother Baird's class is a super easy class and he is a good teacher. There wasn't an unreasonable amount of work, and no tests; just simple 10 question quizzes that are also really easy. He's super helpful and willing to answer questions.
The class is easy! I liked the quizzes. The assignments were not hard. I wish we didn't have to attend every single class, it seems a little pointless sometimes. I would recommend taking this class!!
Bro. Baird is actually a great teacher! Very organized and knowledgeable. I hate science and even more science teachers who don't seem to know how to teach anything, no matter how well they understand it themselves, but Bro. Baird is very different. He Knows his stuff, and he does well at teaching others. I highly recommend him.
I really enjoyed Brother Baird's class. I chose this class because it seemed better than all the other options and the class I wanted was full. I wasn't really expecting it be fun. However, I ended up learning a lot about the world around me and I enjoyed the class! He even had some funny jokes every now and then. Great class all in all!
I thought this class was great. He is clear with what is due and has a very structured class. The class is a lot of discussion with other classmates and their opinions on the subjects.
I wasn't a huge fan of the class in general, but if you do take the class, take it from Bro. Baird. He's chill but funny. He's easy, but the class doesn't seem worthless because of it. Excellent teacher.
Good guy. Make sure if you have any questions or concerns about grading to let him know, he has a grader and does not do it himself.
I learned a lot about the environment. He made it so that you are excited to have a say about your environment
Brother Baird taught this class quite clear and fun. A lot of hands on experiences to see how what you learn in class applies to your life. I you know when to do assignments and how to do them. If you get a bad grade it's completely 100 percent your fault. Some classes it's ilearn or the teacher but you don't have to worry about that with this clas
Brother Baird was an okay teacher. there is nothing to complain about with him. he is forgiving with some assignments. be prepared to type many one page papers.
not the best teacher, kind of boring if you dont care about the subject of environmental things. Was pretty easy to pass though, i didnt learn much from him.
Brother Baird was an okay teacher. Nice guy, I personally took the class because I had to but I did learn a lot about the environment.
He is a cool guy. Not very exciting class if you are not interested in environmental science. You write 1-page paper in the beginning and ending of each unit. Not such a hard class. Make sure you submit your assignments on time. He is willing to help you if you ask him for it.
He is a good teacher the course can be dry if you don't find the subject interesting. However its fairly easy as long as you stay on top of assignments and turn them in by due dates because he does not accept late work.
Great teacher. Expects you to be alert and attentive in class. Assignments are self-explanatory. Lectures, but makes the topic interesting. Gets the class involved a lot.
Teacher and class is simple. The content is interesting if you care about living. Teacher is not very exciting but humor is dry. Some people like that. Do the assignments and study slides before quizzes and you will do fine.
He is a super nice teacher and adds what humor he can to an envio class. I didn't like the unit quizes, but all of the other work he had us do was basically meaningful. He's a good teacher.
Good professor. I don't he liked teaching foundations anymore then we liked being there. Assignments were easy to follow and expectations very clear. His grader can be crabby but overall, didn't mind the class.
His class can be a little boring, mostly however because of the subject matter. Instructions and assignments were always clear.
Brother Baird is a great teacher. He explains things well and i barley had to study for the class and i got an A. The assignments are clear and easy. I learned a lot from him without having to spend a lot of time on his class which was great because i have a busy schedule.
Good teacher, and tries to be funny - just a little boring sometimes.
I just finished taking Environmental Stewardship with Gary Baird. I followed current events prior to the class, but this class helped me understand the reasoning behind them a little more. It was helpful to finally understand the politics behind clean coal and renewable energy. I feel like the class was a good investment.
His slide presentations reminded me of Ben Stine from Ferris Bueller. He does create interest and is respectful of students. I enjoyed the class but was distracted at times.
Easy class and good teacher. Know his environment stuff. Expect decent amount of work that doesn't take up too much time.
Very organized with class time. Assignments are clear and you are given a deadline list right at the beginning of the semester and he doesn't really change that at all so you are never surprised when an assignment is due. Overall not a difficult class.
Brother Baird was great! He was super nice and Sooooo funny! I loved him.I thoughtthe class was easy for the most part. Just do all the work and study for those quizes!
Very professional teacher. He knows what he's talking about. He doesn't accept LATE assignments.
All around an average class. He doesn't take attendance. Group project/presentation at the end.
He is a good professor, knows what he is talking about. Attendance is not mandatory and you have a group presentation at the end of the semester. Position papers are worth a lot so don't ever miss one since He does NOT accept late work.
Great teacher. He is ver knowledgable and conveys all of the information clearly
Was helpful and understanding when unplanned circumstances occurred
I enjoyed this class and the professor. If you fall behind, it is hard to improve your grade.
Bro. Baird is a great teacher. He makes studying plants interesting and engaging. He knows his material, always makes time for each student, and labs are always good. Material can be overwhelming, but study hard, and you should do fine.
Great guy. A little heavy on the homework assignments, compared to some other teachers. Had to rent a book for the class (listed as "required reading,") and only ended up using it for two days (that kind of stuff kind of makes me mad.)
Brother Baird loves what he does! I enjoyed his class and even though lectures and labs are long, he keeps you engaged as he shares his love for plants and plant-like things. His tests are tough, but everything you need to know comes from his PowerPoint slides. Studying as a group made it easier to soak up all the info. Don't skip class or lab!
Proffessor Baird is has been my best math teacher so far, he did not know me because I am a foreign student who is part of an online program degree. In the explanation of the topics he was so great and so good, he has the ability to explain things very, very clear.
This class is tough in general, Baird is a wonderful teacher. He tries his best to explain plants and how they are named to students. attendance is not mandatory but he gives a plant quiz once a week on plant scientific name, family name and common name. Field trip at end of semester to Utah is mandatory. Field trip was amazing!!
Brother Baird explained things very well. His lectures weren't interesting but they were thorough and he's willing to answer questions. He's fairly strict for this class, no curves and points lost every time you don't go to lecture but it;s completely possible to get a great grade!
He does not give you a study guide for the test. He makes you watch a lot of videos you could of watched at home and he is boring.
Bro. Baird is the kind of man to ramble on about something unrelated with the lesson. He likes to show a lot of power points and has you read an article and take a mini quiz before each class. His tests are somewhat hard if you dont pay attention and doesnt have extra credit.
Brother Baird is not familiar with the new course material for this class. The questions were worded really awkwardly. He also rambles on so it makes you tired.
Brother Baird is extremely knowledgeable about Biology! However, his teaching style is not my favorite. Every class is a power point presentation that he talks through while you take notes, I would have preferred some more variety. His tests aren't too bad if you study hard and go to the review sessions. He is very kind and wants you to do well.
Brother Baird is very knowledgeable about what he teaches. He reconciles science and religion is a great and clear way. He answered questions about things I had wondered about for a long time, and he is very approachable. His teaching style may not be for everyone(he lectures quite a bit), but the class isn't hard. Pretty easy A. Good teacher!
To be fair Bro Baird doesn't make up the course. Environmental Stewardship is the worst class but Baird is awesome. He is funny and chill but you cant turn stuff in late. Joke class with so much busy work but great teacher.
Bro Baird is a really good and caring man, but his lectures are extremely boring, especially if you have taken/are taking BIO 180 & BIO 181 because the content is basically the same. All he does is go through the powerpoints and read the slides to you. Easy A as long as you study for the test. ALSO DON'T BUY THE BOOK, THE SLIDES ARE ALL YOU NEED.
He's a nice guy, but I don't think a single lecture period we got through more than 75% of the material for the day, and the last 25% is often the most crucial for the test, which is extremely frustrating to say the least.
He is very organized. He gives you a schedule at the beginning of the semester that he really sticks to and it makes it really nice to know what you will be doing in class that day. .The expectations are clear. He is actually pretty funny.
I loved Brother Baird as a teacher, I felt like he taught all the material very well. He made class really fun and enjoyable, and he is always willing to help you. He never reviewed the quizzes or tests much before so he wasn't a ton of help of guiding you to know what to focus on. That is my only complaint against him.
For context, I have never had a C on anything on my life. Brother Baird is just an awful professor. He just rambles most of the time, and is not clear about what he is talking about.
He rambles a looot. He does not get to the point and he never finishes giving us all the material in his classes. Honestly, study from the book, slides and tutors, and you do not even have to go to class. His lectures are useless.
I would've enjoyed this class if it wasn't for Brother Baird. His lectures are monotone, he rambles a lot and usually answers questions with "Um, Idk". He tells you the textbook is trash, but honestly it's a better teacher than him. He doesnt prepare you for quizzes and exams cause he doesnt know whats on it since he uses other teachers' material.
Worst classes I have taken. Seems like he doesn't prepare for lectures and his study guides are nonexistent. NOT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE OF CLASS. DOES NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS. Which is unfair to the students because he blocks the answers to the weekly quizzes. He commented that I am struggling but ghosted me the times I emailed in the semester for help.
Brother Baird... I like to think he understands the material in the class himself, but due to the fact that he would always contradict himself about what is right and what is wrong in the class, I don't think he does. You will not receive any mercy from him nor will you receive a clear answer to your question.
He sucks. Don't take this class from him. Lectures are literally pointless. He is so unhelpful. Doesn't prepare anything for lectures. This is the only B I have ever gotten in college. The class isn't even that hard, it's just not having any instruction or guidance that made it difficult to do well in. He does nothing to help your prepare for tests
Awful teacher. He does absolutely nothing to help you prepare for tests. He doesn't care if you pass or fail. Do not take this class from him. You will regret it.
I still got an A in the class all thanks to my tutor. I went to countless tutor sessions and stopped attending class after the first two weeks. Classes were pointless to go to because he confused everyone. There were times were it felt like our time was used for him to argue with a student. He was truly on vacation during covid and did not care.
Terrible. I'm mostly not a fan of the class format. It's one of those that you study outside of class and then come to class with questions. This makes attending class so boring and honestly useless. Unfortunately, with this class you've got to spend hours studying and MEMORIZING/week to pass. Too bad I didn't figure that out until halfway through.
Never take from this guy, period. He does not care about you or your grade, and I have emailed him multiple times but he never responds. His class format is such so that you are not able to prepare at all for the lesson that day; he only opens up lectures after class, and forgets half the time anyways. I never went to class, it does not help.
Your grade for this class is pretty much just based on the tests. There are 5 or 8 pt assignments though out the week but that’s it then the 180 point tests. So one bad test score can rank your grade, making it hard to bring it up with the little assignments. Go to his office and get feedback.
In all my years of being a person ever I have never had as much difficultly working with anyone. Ever. If professor Baird spent more ln time actually teaching material and less time wasting class bragging about himself and his trips then maybe half of the class would actually attend instead of meeting together separately to study the material.
The class lectures are such a waste of time, and do not prepare you for the test. He spends the class talking about things that we don't even get tested on. The homework is graded in such a nitpicky way that it's impossible to keep a high grade unless you get A's on the tests. The only reason I did is because I went to tutoring.
Brother Baird definitely knows his stuff, and he loves all things plants! He presents a lot of information, but his tests never cover as much info as he does in class. As long as you study for his tests and take the pretests seriously, it's not too hard to get a good grade! He's a super nice guy and is always willing to answer your questions.
SO BAD! The first 30 minutes of lecture are reviewing the prior lecture because he didn't explain it. He does not prepare you for the exam and the tests are hard. Every 2 lectures you have a timed 8 question quiz and nothing on that quiz is in your notes. I recommend watching the recorded lectures from other professors if you want to do well.
This guy is cool. Super nice guy, especially if you get him talking about plants. Some people say he isn't great for this class, but I think he does a good job of covering everything and helping you understand better after hours if needed. Also super cool for bio 181 because we got huge test curves, and only his class not the other bio 181...
Professor Baird is a really nice guy and willing to help, but he provides little to no help preparing for quizzes and tests. I would recommend taking a different professor for BIO 181.
