He's so dreamy!
Complexing everything, his exams are hard..
Unorganized, doesn't know how to speak without droning and also has trouble captivating his audience. Examples aren't explained very well. Most of my learning in this class was done with the course textbook.
Available outside of class for help but come prepared. Tests follow the mock tests which took away the stress. Lectures were easy to follow but extra work was needed for the more challenging questions.
A great prof, his lectures are kinda meh, but he explains every problem and is question friendly
Great prof but needs better jokes in lectures. Examples are easy to follow and questions are always welcome. Final exam was easier than the tests.
Very good professor, teaching is very good and he would like to answer some questions after class very carefully. Math is not easy but if you are taking his course and put 70% concentrate on this class, you will get a good grade easily.
Goes through the lecture too quickly and assumes you already have a background in differential equations. Gives you a textbook definition and doesn't explain it, then goes through a bunch of examples from the textbook without explaining any of the important parts.
Doesn't spend time going over proofs, lots of examples . Easy course to get a good mark in if you pay attention. Was always available for questions.
Great prof!
Avoid him. Not helpful at all. Hardly posts anything on CuLearn.
As long as you put in the work, he is always around for extra help. Lots of one on one support. Understands what it is like to be a student.
he is a good teacher however, u still have to go solve questions in the book to fully understand it
His tests are much harder and have more content than other sections. Doesn't clearly tell you what's on the upcoming test. He does too many examples in the lectures without clear explanation.
Straight forward lectures that take you step by step, lets you use calculator on final exam
His tests are hard and he is a tough marker.
He is a good teacher, knows what he is talking about but talks too fast. You would have to have an extremely long attention span to keep up with him.
He is the living definition of a textbook, and I mean he actually just writes the textbook on the board and does the examples. He moves too fast and does not apply the course to any real life applications. The course was difficult enough, but his tests are harder than any practice given.
Tests where hard but was more than ready for the final exam. Killed it. 100% final!
Good prof - knows what he's doing, but he went over only a few examples of each topic. However, there are many different things to teach, and I only found the lectures boring because this course is a different "kind" of math. Tests and exams rely on memorizing the solutions to specific cases. Easy exam, and easy tests if homework is done.
His tests were pretty hard, especially when compared to the tests in the other 1007 sections, but his mock tests helped quite a bit. It's important to attend his lectures, as anything from the lectures was fair game for the tests/final. He's a decent lecturer, not anything special, but at least he won't put you to sleep.
Awesome prof. Always available during his office hours. Tests where difficult but the final exam was easy. If the work is done this class is no problem.
If I had to choose between being taught by Professor Bazdell or eating a cactus, I would probably do both because that's how I roll.
Gary is so nice, he teaches very well comparing with other Math professors. I don't believe that the course is difficult because Math is easy for me, but I feel that he offers nice lectures to those that don't understand numbers
He's a really fun guy who gives engaging lectures! Also really easy to find him outside of lecture time and he'll take his time to help you understand anything that's giving you difficulty. However, his tests are a little hard so you'll have to make sure you really understand the material to do really well on them.
He isn't the greatest prof, but he certainly is a solid choice. The course in itself is easy if you attend lectures and practice problems. He does example problems in class and posts mock tests which are helpful. Do beware, his tests are more difficult than other sections, but because of this finals feel like a breeze.
Good prof overall. Lecture notes are posted online however, solutions to problems in notes are only done in class on board so you will have to come to class. He makes class quite entertaining and keeps everyone wake. This class is memorization heavy (must memorize equations and use them) so I would advise making a formula sheet for each unit/test.
Good professor, teaches things well and makes things easy to understand. You have to attend class because he doesn't post his solutions to problems online. His tests are more difficult then other sections, always prepare for the worst case. That being said, the exam is easy and is very similar to previous exams which he will post on CU learn
Great professor for explaining stuff. Hes one of the only math profs to post slides which is really useful. He also gives tons of helpful practice tests. The tests are hard but help prepare you for the final which can be a 100% of your final mark. The final is almost identical to the practice exams as well
Explains thing more clearly than any of the other profs, and I have attended all sections lectures so I know. If you don't understand something he'll explain it differently rather than just repeating to help people who understand differently. Posts all lectures, many practice tests, and practice exams. You guaranteed will get better marks with him.
Great teaching. Makes everything very clear
Gary is a beauty. His passion for the material and desire for students' success motivate you to do well in the class. He is great at imparting the information in an easy-to-digest way. With Prof Bazdell your mark will follow the trend of engineering math classes at Carleton: put in effort and you will succeed.
He is a decent prof. Explains the theories pretty well, posts questions with their solutions, etc. He gives us the material we need to pass the course. He is a nice person and is very willing to help you. No need for the textbook, his class notes are incredibly helpful. Midterm was mediocre and final exam was easy. Attending class is crucial.
quite stubborn
Very Nice prof. more than understanding. A lot of students had several assignments due one week. He pushed his assignment 1 week later to accommodate. His method of teaching is understandable and I can pay attention in his math class, unlike a few other math courses. 10/10 For Gary. It's been a blessing having him.
His lectures are very clear. The assignments good practice for tests. He's a solid prof. The course itself was interesting but sometimes a bit dry. I think it's hard to make undergrad courses very interesting/involved because of the class size and curriculum. There might be a way to improve there though.
Professor Bazdell has to be one of my favourites. His lectures are really clear and easy to follow, and he genuinely enjoys the subject which makes all the difference. His class adapted really well to online learning (due to COVID), and there are lots of opportunities for feedback with midterms/assignments that aren't overly difficult.
Most organized CULearn page I've seen. He should stop teaching math and start teaching other professors how to use CULearn.
So good
I don't know what happened, but this class was terrible. The entire time we've been a month behind & his midterms include questions we haven't learned yet. He is completely disorganized & he takes a while to answer important emails. His assignments are far too complex compared to lectures & constantly have errors. The TA was incredible though.
Online learning with Gary was chaotic to say the least. He's always late on uploading lectures and our section was the most behind. However, I don't believe it was entirely his fault as he had personal issues to deal with. Gary always replies to emails and is clear on what is being graded. His assignments and tests were fair.
simply the best, although our section was always behind he had personal issues. Very understanding and student-friendly professor, gave us an extra day to prepare for the midterm. Assignments and tests are fair. Such a gem, I love you gary may god bless you with a wonderful life and wealth. Very enthusiastic during his lectures as well. he's a g
He was quite disorganized throughout the entirety of the semester, but I think he just got unlucky with personal circumstances and the shift to online due to covid. Very good lectures; easy to follow and good writing. Assignments are easy and he gives a lot of time to do them. Definitely recommend.
He is a nice guy, but I feel I would've improved in his class if he could record lectures somehow in-person and provide solutions for mock tests.
Gary is very nice and can be very good at teaching! However near the end of the semester he kept forgetting to post assignments, lectures, and mock tests on time which is annoying. class also went really fast near the end and he didn't put in effort of teaching he did in the beginning. Overall he is very engaging I just wish he was more organized
His lectures are very thorough and his explanations are really clear. His tests were really fair and quite identical to the mock tests he gives us to practice. The review class in preparation for the final exam is definitely worth to attend. He gives in depth solutions to previous exams and gives good hints to what will be on the exam.
TERRIBLE PROF. NEVER CHECKS HIS EMAIL AND ALMOST THE WHOLE CLASS FAILED HIS CLASS. YOU WILL LOSE SO MANY BRAIN CELLS WITH THE SLIDES HE PROVIDES THAT HAVE NO ANSWERS IN IT.
Please do NOT take any classes taught by Gary.
Worst professor I've ever had in my four years at Carleton. He rarely responded to emails, missed and was late to multiple classes and taught poorly. If you can, take another professor for any of his classes.
If you're in 4th year and you're still stuck taking a 1st year course, that says more about you than the prof.
Horrendous professor. Nearly two months into the semester and only 2 lectures have been posted so far, 0 assignments posted regardless of the deadlines passing. All of my labs have been canceled for this class as well. Why is he paid ~$160k if he can't post slides he reuses? Why am I paying $1,000 to take his course? Avoid at all costs.
He gives you the tools you need to succeed, you just need to use them. Always makes time to answer questions outside of class.
Didn't return any marks until after the drop date, assignments kept getting delayed and ended up encroaching on the exam period. Seems like a nice guy but the course was very disorganized, although to be fair it was his first time teaching it (I believe).
Gary's a nice guy, cares about his students, helped me out a lot right before the exam. Course is very disorganized though. Grades will take forever to get back, classes will get cancelled last minute, some course content not covered. Course is very challenging considering it's learning R and stats, they should really split it into 2 courses.
Very disorganized, grades take forever including first grade not coming back before the drop date and final exam grades taking over a month to come out. Tough class if you don't put in the effort because there is very minimal feedback and some course content is missing.
Check recent ratings, HE FELL OFF HARD - disorganized course - assignments contained untaught material - did not post lectures until after drop date - His 'good' reviews are for math courses; which are much easier. Unless you can learn R 110% by yourself (R has no official documentation, prof gives no lecture examples), please avoid this course.
he is AWFUL AND SO DISORGANIZED. I still dont have my grades from any assignments and its 3/4 of the way into the term?? half the time he shows up late or not at all. assignments are SO confusing and he expects you to know how to use R without any help. the lectures dont help with learning at all either.
cant believe I paid almost 1k for this awful, disorganized class. he should be fired. don't waste your money on him you will regret it
Professor clearly does not care for this class. He doesn't show up to tutorials, posts lectures several weeks late, forgets to upload assignments (which he doesn't even bother to rename from 'Stat 2602'??), + he responds to emails rudely. Assignments contain material from future classes, forcing you to learn EVERYTHING by yourself. Fire this guy!!!
In my 5 years of university never have I come across a professor as disorganized as him. Don't expect lectures posted every week, instead prepare to go weeks without any form of communication from the prof and then randomly get 5 lectures posted all at once and all AFTER the assignment is due. You are basically paying to teach yourself everything.
horrible prof doesnt post anything on time
Very disappointing, not responsive to emails, unorganized class structure, due dates pushed around and no communication with students, lectures released late, very little practice problems provided, avoid.
Gary, oh Gary. This guy is so unorganized and never posts any material he says he will after class; essentially setting you up for failure. It's only been 3 weeks in and idk how i'm gonna survive in this class. Good luck if you have him in the future though!
Professor Bazdell is nice and open to questions if you manage to get access to him. He is extremely hard to reach, he rarely repplies to his emails, and doesn't have office hours as he claims to always be in his office even though he isn't. If you don't want to learn all the material by yourself, I would avoid taking courses he teaches.
It's so obvious this guy doesn't like his job or something. He basically teaches by copying stuff out of a textbook and doesn't even teach the course content. This guy is completely inaccessible; if you send him an email he is NOT going to respond back and he also doesn't mark tests in time. Get ready to basically teach yourself the whole course...
The most disorganized teacher I've ever met in my life. DOESN'T RESPOND TO EMAILS, doesn't teach the course material at all, takes MONTHS to post material that YOU WILL NEED FOR TESTS. Can't believe my tuition money is going towards a class like this what a waste. Would stay away from him if you can.
Avoid at all costs, does not care about class at all, every assignment has to be fixed due to him not uploading right packages, never will respond to email. Just got to teach yourself everything. No practice problems. worst professor ive taken by far.
I don't even know where to start. His habitual lateness and disorganization made this class a nightmare. Many students still haven't received Test 1 grades, and grading is vague for the few who have. Gary also gets passive-aggressive when questioned. Honestly, I hope I never see this guy again in real life or my nightmares.
Gary seems completely unmotivated and disorganized. Lectures lack structure, making it difficult to follow along or stay engaged. Communication is poor, no responses and unclear instructions for assignments. terrible experience overall
Gary is so frustrating. He doesn't care about his students, his lectures make no sense and you can't access him outside of the classroom; he will not answer your emails and the guy isn't even at his own office hours. I basically had to teach the course to myself. Stay farrrrrr away from this guy if you want to keep your sanity.
Just will not respond and does not give the students any resources to study or practice.
This professor does not care and puts zero effort into his job. Has trouble explaining and does not give us proper problems to figure out.
How's it the last day yet our last assignment was never posted. And he was two weeks behind posting the one prior. So vague when it comes to midterm and final, doesn't answer emails and fails to communicate with TAs. Makes empty promises about study material as the final is in 3 days and no practice final. Can't do the bare minimum and post stuff??
Honestly, he gets a lot of hate. I understand he's bad at replying to emails, but he is fairly energetic and means well. He is lazy but honestly he's pretty easy with marking and gives you mock mid-terms and finals, which are super similar. He's not a tough prof and you can find all old assignments that are just the same words verbatim.
Gary is honestly pretty good, and doesn't deserve the hate, it's a chill class. Doesn't respond to emails as the email in the course outline is wrong, but no one has ever been able to email to tell him. Tons of expression in lectures. He could be more organized, but he won't make it your problem really. As long as you pay attention you'll be fine.
doesnt post required materials in a timely manner forcing students to cram lessons. doesn't respond to emails. brightspace is a mess/empty and leaves no instructions for anything
If there was a way to completely omit this class from your career as a student I would do that. To say that this class took years off my life would be an understatement. Wouldn't show up to class, would post lecture content days before the final, and it has been over a month and a half of writing the final and he still not released the grades. RUN.
AVOID HIM IF POSSIBLE!!!!!
Do not take this with him. If you do you will be teaching yourself because he doesn't go over the things you need to know to be able to do the assignments. And if you email him any questions you have, you're lucky if he responds.
Bro is afk majority of the time and doesn't treat his job seriously
Seriously? From the outline it says 4 assignments 12.5% each. ONLY one assignment release on July 11th (course ends LESS THAN A MONTH). No new lecture materials posted 9 days AFTER the reading week (even less likely later on the weekend). Completely waste of time and money. We're here to learn, not fooling around!!!!
Non-responsive, had all the lectures uploaded to his youtube channel before the course started. Puts all the videos on private then proceeds to not update brightspace for 2 weeks which is when he inconsistently uploads the lecture which he pre-recorded and uploaded which he chose to privatize. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THIS PROFESSOR.
No releasing of assignments before July 12 and suddenly release 3 assignment right away with only 10 days for each assignment and NO ANNOUNCEMENT MADE!!!! Worst prof I've EVER had in the whole world!!! An advice for every student in math/stat is they NEVER EVER take courses with this person in the future!!!
Took this in Fall of 2024. Good lecturer with clear explanations. Doesn't post solutions to the questions he does during class, so make sure to get notes from someone else if you're absent. Difficult to reach outside of classes. Takes a long time to return tests with feedback.
Uses prerecorded videos as lecture material, slow at updating Brightspace with assignment material. ok at answering emails in timely manner. TAs are slow at giving feedback to assignments.
Gives absolutely NO care about this course and students. What I recommend for this guy is: if you don't like to teach, just go back home or find another job
material is not up to date with assignments and its close to due date. you will have to learn the material yourself. Good luck.
never in my life have i had a prof this disorganized and uncaring. lectures are never posted on time. tests us and evaluates us on content that he doesnt even post- midterm covered a concept that he posted the lecture for 3 DAYS before the exam. this class was a million times more stressful than it needed to be
