Great guy!
Prof. Bliss tends to talk about himself more than the material. Study powerpoints that he gives and really know the material. He used to be a president at a bank, so he expects u to understand at the same level. I didn't buy a book, but I would suggest it. Don't miss any day of class or else he deducts 8% of your grade each time.
Great guy! I barely made it thru the first two classes with him and was feeling lost. He was encouraging in person and by e-mail. There are no power points. Get good partners for the project and papers! Communicate with Bliss, ask all the questions you have and he will help! Also ask about the boat, son, and lost fingers, he's good for stories....
Mr. Bliss' Finance classes were very difficult, yet he was more than willing to go the extra mile to help someone in need. I learned more from his classes than I did in any other while at FSU-PC. I constantly find myself referencing the information I learned in his class in my professional career. I highly recommend this professor!
Mr. Bliss, and this class, are not as bad as people make them out to be. The subject is finance, so of course it's pretty difficult; However, he is very willing to help you if you need. You must do his study guides and understand them, as they are very similar to the questions on the test. It is a tough class, though, so study hard!
Awesome professor, really knows his stuff.
Great Teacher
GREAT TEACHER! WILL HELP IN ANY WAY HE CAN!!!!
I had Mr. Bliss's class in the Spring of 1985. He was an exceptional instructor. One who had real life practical experince that enabled him to teach the theory and the real life side of business and finance. Twenty plus years later, I still recall some of our discussions. I have no doubt that much of my success is due to him.
I had Gary as a professor in 1992 (?!) Day 1: He teased me about using liquid paper to correct my notes. (FTR I rarely took notes). Day 2: I "responded" by writing "Ignorance is Bliss" on the chalkboard before he arrived, which he found quite amusing. I interned for TSB and built a successful career as an Advisor with a major B/D. Thanks Gary!
Outstanding professor. Very intelligent, enthusiastic and current.
You have one choice with him and that is to study, if you don't study you will fail. Remember this, GO TALK TO HIM, it will help you out in the end
He is the best teacher I have ever had. He is very helpful and such a fun professor. He is always happy. Love him!! Alicia
Finance is a tough subject, so be prepared to study. Bliss knows his stuff and is extremely helpful in and out of class. He can go off on tangents sometimes, but for the most part he is great. His in class examples and homework assignments really help drive processes and helped burn the information into my brain. Highly recommend Professor Bliss!
If I weren't so close to finishing, I would transfer because the business department used to be the best one on campus and now it is the worst one. He is unprepared in class and has ruined the program. If you can--transfer or don't start here!!
He will do all he can to help you understand finances, and he's a GREAT teacher! I had him as a summer instructor at FSU-PC and learned---really learned---the financial markets (a subject I knew nothing about beofre). If you reaaly want to LEARN, take courses with him!!!
Great professor. Extremely experienced in the financial world and has extensive knowledge on the subject. Teaches the class and brings in real world examples. The class vibe is always great and he encourages class feedback and participation. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy class but Dr. Bliss is an honestly great person.
AWESOME TEACHER
By the end of the semester we all wanted the class to be over with. What made the class bearable was Dr. Bliss' help with the subject. If anyone complains about Bliss is because they did not study and they did not ask for help. I would not have got good grades without going and asking questions and studying.VM
Dr. Bliss is a great teacher! He is super fun and outgoing. This Finance class is not too hard. Just show up and listen and you will pass. I took it in the summer so it was shorter and we skipped a lot of uninteresting material. He is very nice and respectable.
This professor is condescending and facetious. He is different with online adults versus traditional students. He has absolutely no respect. This may be taken down like the other negative posts.
At first Mr. Bliss class was one of the hardest classes I took in my MBA class. When I heard I had to take him again I demanded my success coach find me someone else, but after I learned his grading style passing his course was a breeze. I am happy to have him in my next course.
Dr. Bliss operates under the assumption that his class is easy and anyone who doesn't understand just isn't trying hard enough. Overall very condescending, while seems to be a genuine/nice guy outside of class, just did not enjoy him as a teacher. Would not take again.
do not buy book. waste of $, havent opened it once. class is way harder than it needs to be but it is doable. tests can be difficult & his lectures arent the best. pretty average college class if you ask me.
Didnt use book alot, note card is life on tests, study lectures and practice test yourself a lot. He jumps through material in online video lectures as if you completely grasped the lessons before it. study study, QMB class isnt easy.
He regraded a month old quiz during FINALS WEEK and took up to 12 pts BACK from students. He made a mistake and noticed it a month later during finals week and decided to change it regardless. He speeds through the rather bland lectures and assumes everything is crystal clear. Doesn't explain quiz questions afterwards. Gotta contact him for help.
Hard class, go to Skoolers Tutoring to pass
He's a tough guy, don't get me wrong. Southern sense of humor, but also holds southern values. SHOW him you're trying. There were multiple weekly webinars in my online class of 500+ students, yet only the same 4-7 people showed up. Was borderline C+/B- in his class after final, but because I made an effort, I was given a Solid B. TRY
Does not clearly communicate information, goes off on tangents, and makes the class more difficult than it needs to be. Tests are often too long for the amount of time given. Put in A LOT of study time and you can pass
I would be shocked if he could get a 100% on his own exams. The lecture videos are very long and boring, they could be cut in half if he didn't ramble on about nonsense. The class should be an easy A but he makes it way harder than it needs to be. The homework and exams are nothing alike. Overall, this class and teacher were awful. Would not take
This class made me hate fall 2017 so much. His lectures are unnecessarily long, he takes hours before actually showing you how to do the problems on excel (tests are done on excel). He literally makes so many mistakes in his lectures, it's sad. you have 2 hours per test but will not have enough time to finish all the questions. Glad i passed
Bliss is ok for the most part. He definitely loves to go off topic, but he will go back and talk about the subject at hand and has sort of clear expectations on what to expect for the exams. The second exam was really hard, but the first and final exam were manageable, although there's a lot of material on the exams in general.
Dr. Bliss is a very hard professor. He don't provide a clear understanding of the work, and expect you to know what you are doing in the class without his help. When you ask him to explain something about the assignment, he go around the question leaving you still confuses. I don't recommend you take him online.
Dr Bliss really is a bad instructor. He does not give clear instructions about the homework and papers. He is constantly complaining about the students and gives out zero very easily. He accused me of plagiarism more than two times and deliberately gave me zeros just because he thought I was not able to compose such essay. He does not care about us
Easily the worst teacher I have every had at FSU. He cares about the subject but is not a good teacher. He goes around the answers and got homework problems wrong MULTIPLE times throughout lectures. Homework is somewhat helpful and is the only way I learned from this class. The tests are harder than they should be and are the majority of your grade
Professor Bliss is really a caring guy. Go to his office hours and you'll see what I mean. He helped me through the last section of content, which was really tough and even recommended some tutors at skoolers to help. Overall, I would take him again if he taught any of my future classes.
I think Bliss catches heat on here because he teaches a very difficult weed-out class for many business majors. With that being said, Bliss is the most available prof I've ever had. Always responds to emails and even gives you his personal cell number to call with questions. Posts lectures online. Use skoolers tutoring!
Dr. Bliss was hands down the most helpful professor I have had at Florida State so far. He responded to emails very quickly and truly cares about your success. However, this class was not an easy A. I probably spent a total of ten hours studying before each exam. Homework was not too bad, usually took me an hour or two to finish.
Gary is so nice and genuinely cares about his students. Super accessible outside of class and always willing to answer questions. The class is graded by 3 exams and homework (15% I think). Doing the weekly homework helps you learn the material. Overall the class is like a combo of Excel and Stats. And you get a notecard for the exams which is perf.
If you don't wait until the last minute to do the homework you'll be fine. The exams are similar to the homeworks.
Doing the homework before the last second is super critical in my point of view. Exam's can be tricky however if you study and use the index card to your advantage (meaning actually be able to read it) you should have plenty of time during the test. Dr. Bliss is super willing & eager to help if you ask him for it. If your not a fan of Excel start!!
I think he means well and is very accessible but he gets so off topic in his lectures that it makes it hard to stay focused. If you can, take this class during summer B because your homework and quizzes are worth more, and your final exam is worth 30%.
Bliss is the man, hands down but don't take that to mean he isn't paying attention. He is. He knows when we are watching class or not, so make sure to watch it (I had it on in background a lot). Go to skoolers, even Bliss says you should (the free market, he says!). Tests can be gnarly but he makes it make sense. Would 100% recommend.
The tests are not like the lectures, just like the homework is neither like the lecture videos or tests. If you do not pay the money for Schooler's, you will not do well. The lack of consistency in the way the material is presented, taught, and tested, really leaves a lot to be desired.
He's well-intentioned. But he goes off on a tangent during our 50 min class so much that there's not much time to discuss the actual material. Ur grade is weighted 20% hw & 80% exams, 100% NO extra credit. My advice is, go to the office hours. Ask me how I know more about the state of his boat during the hurricane than statistics.
online can drop into his in person class. i took in person to save $ but barely go. he has module videos online that are important and helpful online office hours once a week. he is one of the few that really cares about his students. genuine guy. you get a notecard for exams. 3 exams total and then homework is the grade break down.
The material in this class can be confusing if you don't have a solid understanding of excel or statistics, but it really isn't that bad. Watch the lectures, and do the homework and you will be fine. Bliss is incredibly willing to help if you have any questions and even gives you his personal phone number.
Gary is a very approachable and nice guy. His first exam was the hardest but the second and last were really easy. I do feel like if I didn't get skoolers then I wouldn't have gotten the same grade. For exam 1, a lot of the content on the exam wasn't covered in class or the homework but overall the class was really easy.
Honestly, this class is really easy (gets easier every exam) and Bliss is probably the most accessible teacher at Florida State. If you are in the online class, drop by in person for advantages and updates he fails to give to the online version. You get a note card for every exam so doing poorly is solely on you. Do the homework and master excel.
Way to much HW dude chill!! Im doing like 12 hrs worth of HW weekly!! Even Spring Break!
Gary is so nice! He helps you with everything!
Changed the entire grading scale during Finals Week! and expected us to refrain from even contacting him about it. It's his first year teaching this class and it shows, his lectures are long and inarticulate. Be prepared to spend 3+ hours on each of his 30 homework assignments that cost you $100 to even access.
Professor Bliss is so nice and helpful. The exams were easy if you actually studied and put in effort. So glad I got to take this hard class with him.
You've got to do the homework and know the review to pass the test with an A or B. Dr. Bliss is a welcome change from the previous professor. I will take another class taught by him.
Dr. Bliss does a very good job of presenting difficult information in an easy to understand way and offers many opportunities for questions to be answered. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you skip class a lot like I did you will pay for it. Tests are hard, but reasonable since this class is supposed to be tough.
Took him over Summer B and I would not recommend unless you have to take it over Summer. Bliss is a nice professor and my TA always answered my emails quickly. However, I think this class might be too much for most people in 6 weeks. Its a LOT. I was constantly doing homework on MyLab. His lectures were really fast and hard to follow.
Professor Bliss is my favorite professor at FSU. His classes are not easy but he is extremely willing to work with you. In office hours he will go over anything and everything you need help with. He definitely shows he cares that his students actually learn the material. Also took him for QMB 3200 and it was the same level of difficulty.
Finance is just a hard class to begin with. Professor Bliss wants students to do well so he gives lots of practice materials for exams, which are all multiple choice. You need to put effort into the class to do well. There are weekly homework assignments and 4 exams throughout the year. I used Skoolers for test reviews and did alright.
Finance is hard and he tries to make it understandable. If I am honest, he did not really teach this course well from an online standpoint. Going to skoolers was the only way I could learn and I would 100% recommend it because they make the index cards that you can bring to the test and if you use that you are guaranteed to pass. Its hard.
Really nice guy, but let me be honest. His online and in person classes are both unorganized. His homework, videos (which were recorded years ago and are no longer applicable to the current course), test, and study guides do no relate to each other AT ALL. Its as if you're taking four separate courses at once. I learned nothing from him. SAD!
What should be a simple class seems somewhat impossible. I don't know if anyone else has tried to use the textbook for clarification, but it is the most useless piece of literature to ever exist. The amount of homework we have is soul-crushing. It can take HOURS to finish assignments. SKoolers helped, maybe if it wasn't online it wouldn' be so bad.
knew this class would be tough going into it bc of all the warnings i'd heard. only 3 exams. the first wasn't too bad but a bit of a wake-up call. highly suggest getting skoolers chapter reviews bc it is the ONLY way to understand how to complete the hw in its entirety. exam reviews/note card for exam are a life saver. 2nd and 3rd exam aren't easy
I did well in this class because of Skoolers. He's a nice guy but his lectures are hard to follow sometimes. He also uses MyLab which is absolutely terrible. Homework assignments take forever and they are weekly. The exams are fair if you have the Skoolers notecard.
At least for the online version of his class, wouldn't even consider him a teacher. Skims through tough topics without even really addressing how to solve tough problems. Be prepared to buy skoolers. They explain the material so much better. Nice guy but one of my least favorite online classes.
Very respectful to the students. He makes this class as easy as he could, even though this is supposed to be a hard class. The material isn't too bad, and he provides many videos to watch. He gives students his personal phone number to contact him anytime they need help. This class is very easy (homework/quizlet), just take 3-5 days/exam to study.
His exam reviews and homework practices are all you need. Everything else is useless. He is so rude and disrespectful, that "nice guy" facade should be taken with a grain of salt. As soon as things don't go his way, he starts to get inconsiderate and snappy. He was deadset on proving that he had control over things that he didn't.
I was expecting this class to be my hardest this semester but it was my easiest. You can take the homework quizzes as many times as you want so those are easy points. His tests are the study guide questions with different numbers and the study guide questions are all from the homework. He creates videos throughly explaining how to do the homework.
Dr. Bliss is a nice guy who wants you to well. FInance can be tough so you have to put in a lot of time and effort. Watch his lecture videos and take notes before doing the homework, which takes a very long time, but help you learn the material. The tests are just like the HW and study guide questions, and you're allowed a notecard cheat sheet.
Dr. Bliss is a rockstar and one of the most caring professors in the COB. The class is not overly difficult and if you put in the effort, you can and will make an A. The concepts aren't hard and the resources provided will make everything simpler, and easier come exam time. Minimal homework and a notecard allowed on the exam. Bliss is great!
QMB isn't hard with Bliss as long as you watch his videos and understand how to do the homework. His exams (there are 3) are very very similar to the homeworks. You are allowed a 3x5 notecard so that's helpful. I don't suggest waiting until the last day(s) to study... definitely keep up with the work and you'll do fine.
Overall, easy class if you study for the exams. Study the hw problems, and DO the study guide questions. Skoolers will definitely help as well with the exams. I thought it was easier than QMB. Exams are fairly straight forward and similar to hw.
When studying for this class, make sure to redo the homeworks and the study guide until you are confident in the material. If you're confused with the material go see a TA! I couldn't get through this class without Andrew! Also, watch the webinars Bliss has before each exam. You have to work for your grade. No extra credit.
Fantastic professor. The classes( FIN3403 and QMB3200) are both difficult math classes so a challenge is expected. He presents hard information in a very easy to understand way. Make sure you understand the homework problems VERY WELL and you will do fine on the exams they are very similar but require a little more critical thinking.
This Professor does not want you to learn, at least in the online section. Online lectures are extremely vague, and I had to teach it all to myself using Chegg. Plus what's the point of 4 open note quizzes with a closed-book final, I have no idea how to do anything. Ugh.
Bliss is by far the best professor I have ever encountered hands down His classes are hard math classes so the material is difficult But Bliss explains the material in such an easy to understand and relevant way He VERY adequately prepares you for exams and does so much to help students who actually work An inspiration please take him
So much material. Weekly homework and 4 open note quizzes with a closed note final .. definetly a GPA killer. I took it in 6 weeks and i'm not sure if getting over with it quickly was worth the stress.
Bliss is a great Prof, but taking FIN3403 over the Summer Semester (6 weeks) is a PAIN. If you can, take in the fall/spring. The class is not really hard, but you have an exam every week. The course is not condensed during the summer semester. ALSO be ready for a cumulative final. 12+ Chapter Quizzes and Five Exams over a six week period. STUDY!
Just finished the summer semeser and WOW it was fast. Six weeks with 12 HW's, 4 quizzes, and a cumulative final made this class my full time job lol. Bliss is a great professor tho and very accessible. GET THE SKOOLERS REVIEWS THEY WILL BE A LIFE SAVER!
Both classes I've taken with Dr. Bliss have been extremely frustrating. While his videos have improved slightly, he still wastes time on topics that he doesn't test on. Further, he teaches oversimplified examples in lectures; homework and exam problems are much more difficult and complex than what is taught. My TA essentially taught me the course.
I am taking him for both QMB and FIN and he's great. They are tough classes but he lays out the online content in a very organized way that you know what to do and when. If you put in the work, there isn't much to worry about. He also makes his phone number available for students during covid, which is pretty nice. Great guy.
The material is dense but you get a notecard for each exam and a really detailed study guide/breakdown of the questions. He breaks information down well and is happy to help students outside of class. There's no reason you shouldn't do well.
Great teacher- will help with anything if you just reach out to him and he makes himself so available. If you get skoolers or just pay attention to his lectures and exam review you will do well- just don't fall behind or procrastinate. It's a lot of work but all super doable.
A terrible professor. He has absolutely no regard for his students or for their lives outside of class. He is extremely unsympathetic and frankly, just mean. 10/10 do NOT recommend this professor if you intend to learn something or pass.
Take him!! one of the best business professors out there. I had him during COVID fall and he was so understanding and willing to help with anything, he even gives us his personal cell number and encourages us to call him when we need help. This class is NO walk in the park but with his help and Schoolers packets, you'll do just fine.
Seems like a nice man, but taking his class online has been a nightmare. His lectures are confusing and often double back on each other, making small variations in content very hard to understand. Long boring lectures followed by long boring homework (at least he usually gives you most of the homework answers). The exams cover too much material.
Great class that is not hard if you study and know how to do all HW questions and study guide questions. Normally doesn' give extra credit but gave this semester chance of to 3% added to overall final grade. I didn't watch any lectures, just get skoolers and practice and the tests really are not that difficult. Test 1 easy, 2 is hardest.3&4 ight
I would highly recommend buying skoolers for the course. You may think you wont need it at first but youll definitely appreciate it in the end. Given that this semester was fully remote, Bliss would always mention how difficult its been for everyone, yet he always hated extra credit being brought up.
Good Professor. You need to get Skoolers for this course. It will really help you do well for the exams.
Better hope he doesnt forget the extra credit so you dont have to email him an hour before grades are due. He said he hated doing extra credit because it was so hard for manually enter two points into canvas. That tells you everything you need to know about this professor.
Bliss is a good professor. Lectures are broken down well so they aren't overly long. However, if you do not keep up with them, they will take hours to watch. He does a good job of explaining things. If you have questions or concerns, he is readily available almost all the time. You can tell he really loves the class and wants everyone to succeed.
Stats can be tricky but Dr. Bliss makes his tests very fair. The HW assignments take a long time, but once you figure out how to do all the problems, they are a great study tool, as his test questions are exactly like his hw problems. He also allows you to use a cheat sheet notecard on each exam. This class can be completed without Skoolers.
Really not difficult if you put any effort in. He's a good teacher and a good person overall whos understanding. I put no effort in all semester had a C+ and got a 94 on the final when I studied. The quizzes are useful to study, so reviewing those is key. He curved our entire class up like a whole percent after we already got 2% extra.
Dr. Bliss is an AMAZING professor. He is very fair and grades based on homework and exam scores. He provides videos to help you through homework problems. Make sure you know how to do the homework problems easily and you'll get an A on the exams! I got skoolers because I thought I would need it, but you can get an A without it.
Dr. Bliss is a great guy. I took FIN3403 and QMB3200. His lectures are easy to understand and he really does try, but I feel like the only reason people do so well is because they shell out the money for skoolers. Make sure youre proficient in excel and youll at least pass, but if you want a higher grade its going to cost you.
Just do everything! I got Skoolers and didn't watch a single one of his videos and got an A. Put in the effort to learn the material and you'll be great!
His mic sucks, no extra credit offered, no curve either. He ignored people's calls and emails when canvas was down (the second time), and didn't care that some people got to do 2 exams without honorlock. He doesn't care about students and is very rude. I gave up on taking QMB3200 because I don't wanna take him again.
take this IN-PERSON (especially if you have a hard time setting few hours to watch lectures). not even skoolers will guarantee an A in this class (the fact that many people have to get skoolers in the 1st place is stupid since we are already paying for the class but oh well that says a lot about the prof & his teaching). TA is nicer to reach out to
Dr Bliss was a great and respectful professor. He truly enjoys what he does and it shows in his teaching. I bought Skoolers for the course and never watched a single one of his videos and got a 95 in the course. His homework is what you need to know to succeed on the exams and also do his study guides, they mirror exactly what the exam will be like
Class is not bad but do yourself a favor and get skoolers
his lectures suck (he barely explains the actual content), go straight to the homework videos and you will be ok. his exams are based on mainly homework so make sure you know how to do them. skip studying the concept questions and just write them down on the index card. I didn't really like this class or him (he's very rude) - if you can avoid, do.
Professor Bliss can be a nice guy, but I recommend finding a different professor for FIN3403 or QMB3200. I took both with him, and I relied on Skoolers in order to pass. I am sure you have heard before that some people can be very knowledgeable on a topic, but have no idea how to teach it to others. Bliss fits into that category.
Dr. Bliss seems like a good guy and teacher. The class however is awful. I compare it with ACG2021 and ACG2071, if you have taken those. If I had known there was a skoolers I would have 1000% done that. If you like extreme memorization and impossible concept questions or if you want to study for weeks just to fail the exam then this class is for u.
Even with skoolers, this class is difficult. The course was apparently rewritten this year and is way harder than it needs to be for an introductory finance class. The content seems straightforward enough, but the exams have a way of making it confusing. Would absolutely advise against taking this class if you can avoid it.
Horrible professor, does not care about students. Also makes the class 10000 times harder than it should be
I got an A in the class. The Fall 2021 semester was "re-worked" so I didn't know what to expect. People who complain are the lazy ones. I went to his in person office hours and he was happy to help. Don't spam him with useless emails. Skoolers helps but not needed if you thoroughly understand the HW problems.
Honestly, after reading these reviews I was hesitant to take this class but it wasn't as bad as everyone says. Yes, this class is hard, no doubt about it but you can definitely still get a solid B as long as you understand the Excel questions (exactly like the hw). Memorize them!! Conceptual questions are hard so def study those until you get them
1) you better buy skoolers, 2) The grade you have after the final exam isn't your final grade, 3) most boring lectures right before acg2021 and 2071, 4) do not take this class or teacher. I studied for days on days to get an A on the final exam. Got me up to a B- was so excited. Now I have a 79. Weeks after final exam my grade changed. NOT FAIR.
I've taken him once before for QMB, and I wasn't excited to see that he was the only professor available for this class. I'm not a finance major, and this course with this guy teaching seemed impossible for me. His video lectures absolutely suck and don't help at all. If you're not a finance person, try your best to steer clear from this guy.
I was scared to take this class because I heard it was really hard, but it really was not as bad as I thought. You do have to put effort into the class if you want to do well on the tests, but I found it to be manageable. He gave lots of extra credit this semester. I found in person lectures to be useless so I just watched the online ones.
I had Dr. Bliss for Finance and QMB. He is my favorite professor on this campus. Utilize his office hours. He talks very quickly in lectures and it is easy to fall behind if you don't rewatch his lectures or go in for help. He genuinely wants all of his students to succeed.
Top G
Dr. Bliss is one of the professors that truly wants you to do well, but you have to show up to office hours and get to know him if finance doesn't come naturally to you. Attending class isn't very helpful but his office hours are a game-changer.
This online class consisted of 60 minutes of lectures and a few homework help videos. The homework help videos are great for helping you understand the homework. Unfortunately, the tests consist of math problems not found on the homework and full of concept questions that he never even mentions. I took the 6 week class so maybe 16-week is fine.
Amazing professor. Always ready to help and answer all your questions IF YOU'VE DONE YOUR WORK. Fundamental coursework doesn't put much pressure on you.
Professor Bliss has good intentions. He is a funny guy and tells a bunch of stories in his lectures. He is knowledgable about what he is talking about but the lectures are somewhat a waste of time. He goes over HW questions in lecture which is somewhat helpful but I wish he spent more time going over new material. He often rushed through it.
Lectures are all right, seems I be a bit of a whiny guy, removing things such as study guides and notecards on a whim. Was disappointed to be honest because he seemed nice in his recorded lectures.
It's clear previous classes got lucky, as a note card used to be allowed on the exams. It still says it is in the syllabus leaving many students confused right before the first exam. Now you are stuck trying to remember how to do hundreds of problems off the top of your head. Says things won't be on the exam yet appear anyway. Cannot recommend.
We didn't get a note card and have to memorize way too many formulas, which just seems unreasonable. Skoolers is a must. Unless, of course, you decide to trick honorlock and have someone else take your test for you, which sadly a lot of people do. The fact that bliss looks the other way makes him just embarassing to the university.
Class is interesting but very challenging. The lecture videos are very barebones and either gloss over or completely omit material that is present on exams (70% of grade). Previous classes were allowed a notecard but they were removed to prevent "cheating", and it felt as we were getting punished for a previous student's actions.
I learned everything from Skoolers and nothing from professor bliss.
Other reviews are simply students who don't put in the work. Lectures are concise easy to understand, concepts are well explained, homework problems basically mimic the test.
The hw is super easy, tests are super hard. Get schoolers if u want any hope of understanding, as there's not much instruction. always available for help, but just a hard class. 4 tests, and one hw a week. wouldn't take again.
This class is composed of 64% of the grade from four tests and 36% from homework assignments. The lectures were alright, but the homework takes several hours to complete. The tests are harder than he lets on, so be prepared. He puts stuff on the tests never discussed in the lectures. Gary and this class are okay, but it should be redesigned.
The best professor I have had so far. Negative reviews are not regarding the professor but rather the material. He teaches a difficult class therefore the work will be difficult. Nonetheless, he is a very charismatic person willing to answer any questions you may have and takes great value and importance in building relations with his students.
I disliked the professor.
I'm taking him for both classes and it is clear he hardly knows his own material. He repeatedly during his live review sessions gets questions on his own review wrong and chastises students for asking elaboration on questions. Only Professor in my 3 years at FSU that I can say with confidence is a bad teacher and you need to avoid at all costs.
what a di**! do not take him if you can take another professor. he goes out of his way to be extremely rude when you ask for extra credit and makes it known that he will single you out from 800 students and make sure to not give you a curve, while giving everyone else one. exams are difficult, he allows 2 flashcards of material but is not helpful.
Very rude towards his students who ask for extra help. Study for a week straight because the homework is nothing like his exams. He allows 2 flashcards for the exams but don't you dare ask him for help because he will rudely shut you down and make sure to not curve your grade.
IMO much easier than the FIN class but still somewhat difficult. Textbook is pretty much useless and his lecture vids aren't too helpful when it comes to understanding the HW (which will take you a bit to do). He comes in clutch with vids on solving nearly every HW problem tho.
if u know how to study ur chillin. class not hard all these ppl just started studying the day before the exam.
Honestly, this was by far one of the worst teachers i have ever had to take. He gives lots of information to prepare for tests that are NOTHING like the info he would teach us. Some of the questions on his exams were lined up but most are made up by him. Does not care what so ever towards his students, and refuses to help your grade. Horrible
Awful teacher tests are half his hw questions half material he doesn't teach you rude towards students overall just the worst class/teacher i think ive ever taken
Sending my future child to UF after taking this class.
Dr. Bliss was one of the most caring profs at FSU. I highly encourage to go to his office hours, he is so helpful when it comes to homework/test prep. Also, make sure to practice/spend time on homework because he can see how much time was spent so if you ever need to discuss a grade the first thing he will do is see how much work you're putting in.
I get that the class is difficult, but he makes the exams nearly impossible. I put a ton of work into the class and can't get a better grade then people who use straight gpt because its so difficult. Seems like he tries to make every exam "non-cheatable" but just makes it almost impossible for people to do it without cheating.
The class is pretty tough, but if you put in the work and use Unstuck study for study prep, you can do well. Professor Bliss is hit-or-miss - go to office hours for extra help.
Words cannot describe how ATROCIOUS this professor is. Let me begin by saying the tests are substantially more difficult than the homework and they are much different than the given assignments. This professor goes out of his way to make things more difficult for you. How he is a professor is beyond me because his teaching abilities are horrendous.
Avoid at all costs. Might as well not even watch the lectures because you'll just wind up teaching yourself all the information. Tests are very hard for no reason.
I'm convinced any positive reviews here were written by him.
Wouldn't write this if I didn't think this guy was absolutely deserving of an awful review. In fact, this is the first professor I have reviewed on here. I actually created this account to warn others of how bad of a professor he is. I think my biggest problem with him is that the tests are nothing like the homeworks. Would NEVER take him again.
If this class is not a requirement for you, by all that is holy do NOT take this class with this professor. This is the first grade I will receive that is not an A. The exams are nothing compared to the homework problems, and expects you to apply concepts that aren't taught.... Did I mention that you should not take this class by any means.

Gary bliss is one of the longest running teachers at FSU, which makes it so confusing as to why he is still so bad at teaching this class. Exams are much more difficult than any practice given. He explains the formula but uses many finance terms nobody knows, and no reasoning.Overall, expect to need a tutor if you need this for your future career.
His TAs are a menace to society and make the test way harder than it needs to be. Dr. Bliss is not good at teaching the concepts and most of the course will be self-taught. He doesn't use a mic in a lecture hall so It is hard to hear with all the squeaking chairs from the 90s. Overall he is a great person and is very helpful with you call him or go
This is by far the worst online class I've taken at FSU. Unfortunately, there are no other options for Business majors and you are going to have to take him. There is homework every week, but the real problem are the tests which are SUPER HARD and nothing like the HW. Don't take if you don't have to.
Please don't take this decrepit dust bag. He does not put his students first and has made his tests impossible and hates giving any extra credit. Also, if you have accommodations he just wont curve your test so watch out. Honestly the class is fine but he makes it impossible to get an A, but not because the material is advanced, its because of him.
Gary needs to retire, he does not teach you anything. Lecture videos are a waste of time and don't be fooled by the open note exams. Test questions are very difficult and are often not even covered in class.
Worst professor at FSU. How can you teach the same class for decades and still suck. Tests are more difficult than they should be. Online lectures are difficult to understand at times. Like he'll spend 5 mins repeating the same rudimentary topic and then gloss over the complex little nuances he'll put on the test. Don't take him if u can help it!!!
What a rude guy. So full of himself. I don't think you can avoid taking this guy unfortunately. Just do what you're told and don't expect him to be nice in any way.
He just does not seem to care about the performance of his students on his tests which is cause for concern. I also feel like the feedback provided by students is not being considered whatsoever. The same issues seem to be reoccurring: the tests are overly difficult for no reason and they do not resemble the homework or even the lectures.
The class is really just discouraging because you can put in the time to study, just for the test to be completely different than the assignments. It is just really disappointing; not much else to say. Unfortunate that I have to leave a negative review here, but if you feel the same way then leave a comment on here or in the class evaluations.
It is very troubling that I feel unmotivated as a student in this class.I have no desire to even study because I feel like it won't even make a difference on the exams. Was hoping for a 4.0 this semester but with this professor I can kiss that goodbye. He is the first professor I've had an issue with here.
I've had teachers that were arrested for assault on students in the classroom that were better teachers than bliss. He is so rude and full of himself and thinks hes better than you even though hes on a teachers salary. He loves making students lives harder and takes pride in being a rude and mean teacher. Dont take this class.
This class gave me cancer. On the exam, you have to manually make a sheet in excel full of numbers and calculate multiple ratios and equations with those ratios, and do all of this 30 times in under 90 minutes. Would say stay away but this class is mandatory and he's the only one who teaches it, so all I can say is good luck.
Class seems pretty straight forward until you get to the exams that are nothing like what he teaches. It's 10x harder than any assignments and it's like being introduced to new material during exams. He says time is our biggest enemy for exams, but it's crazy that we are tested on speed rather than knowledge. Seems like good guy but def a bad prof
Dr. Bliss has no understanding of what test prep is. He consistently provides you with easy homework that is a fraction of the tests' difficulty. He is stubborn and stuck in his ways. If you ask for extra prep materials, he just tells you to review the normal stuff that is already pointless. You can study over and still will not be prepared.
This class sucks. Maybe Bliss is a good guy outside of teaching, I have no idea. I think he gets off on making the exams so much harder than the HW. There's some extra credit opportunities, and a ton of HW to offset the exams if you bomb them. Good luck, this is a required course for so many people but it will do literally nothing for you.
Gary Bliss is quite literally the worst professor I have ever had. The exams are legitimately impossible and he does not curve. Even if you spend 20 + hours studying, you will not receive a satisfactory grade. You are better off guessing on every single question. Literally WTF.
Only professor that I've had an issue with thus far. He seems nice but just a terrible professor. Review sessions don't help much and you practically have to speed through the tests. He REFUSES to curve tests and just BLATANTLY DISREGARDS how his students perform on them. It seems that many other students feel this way.
this was literally the hardest class i have ever taken. there is no point in studying because the exams are 10x harder then the homework and in class examples. he gives some extra credit which helped my grade a lot, but this class was a constant source of anxiety for me. so happy its done.
The exams were impossible and did not resemble the homework at all. I've never had an issue with a professor until this class. I put 20+ hours into studying for each of the 4 exams, and every single time there was stuff that wasn't mentioned either in the textbook or the lecture videos.
Skoolers templates will save your life. He also offered EC opportunities and curved 2/4 of the exams. Class takes effort and is not an easy A, but you can tell he cares about his students.
The previous comment states that he curved 2/4 tests which is not true. He gave us some points on one exam because there were issues with the answer key and he emphasized that it wasn't a curve. Then he gave out a couple on the last test to some students because he didn't want to be bothered by people asking for their grade to be rounded.
You know there's an issue with the class when you could study all the given lectures and assignments and still not do well on the test. None of that work prepares you for the tests because, for some reason, Gary takes pride in making the exams substantially harder than the material he gives you. Both of his classes are simply ridiculous.
I feel like not enough people talk about this but the time constraints are what really make his exams so hard. One exam I took, I only completed 23 out of 35 of the questions and had to guess on the other 12 because of time. The questions didn't feel terrible but typing all of the data into excel and making all of the calculations felt impossible.
The tests need a massive rework. They're incredibly unclear and impossible to finish on time.
A terrible representation of FSU. If this guy gave a talk about FSU, I never would've come. Just a professor whose class you want to avoid at all costs if you can. Hopefully they hire someone else to teach this class
honestly, he seems like a nice dude that's been worn out over the years. his classes are overly difficult to the point where you're not even learning, you're just trying to pass. i've heard fin4304's been made a weed-out class and it would add up. not a lot of helpful resources and not enough time to do all questions on exams
I haven't even finished the class yet but want to end it all. This class is such a source of anxiety for me and affects my performance in every other class. I understand the concepts and do great in practice, then the exam is 100x harder and things we've never seen. To top it off, Bliss is traveling the world ooo on a boat while I suffer...
The oldest and worst teacher ever. Spends his life on a boat off in the Atlantic, giving out tests from a test bank thats 50+ years old. It is literally you with 3 months of Finance vs his 80 years of knowledge. He even claims multiple times that "the book answer says I'm wrong, but I don't care cause I think I'm right" in his review sessions.
Don't believe any reviews before 2024. Exams are on content not in textbook or lectures and some tutoring services are banned. Extremely difficult to pass no matter how hard you study. First exam I've ever failed. If there's another professor available take that class.
He's a nice man and very knowledgable. However, his tests really are out to get you. I have ran out of time on all of them, he gives you a study outline that is nothing like the tests. He was happy to share that the exam average was a 74 and said that is what he expected. Coming from a straight A student, I made my first C in this class.
Worst professor at FSU, wants everyone to fail his class, avoid him if you can because he does not teach anything that is on the test.
This class is the Titanic and Gary Bliss is Rose pushing you off the floating door to your death. Exams are so fast Gary might as well replace dog racing with sleep deprived finance student racing. To get through this class don't use any of his materials, plug in the book material to Chatgpt and ask it to teach it and create practice questions.
Gary Bliss is the most understanding professor I've ever had. The exams are EXTREMELY hard but VERY manageable if you actually go to office hours or email him. Bought Skoolers and didnt even use it. He provides more than enough resources. Its a weeder class for a reason. FSU asked him to make it harder, not his fault. Incredible guy. Spam homework
Professor is hard to communicate with; notes are old and re-used and assignments are automatically graded. TA's deal with everything. What does the professor actually do? Extremely exam heavy class and all other assignments are basically busy work. In my opinion, he brings unnecessary attitude into the class and holds his ego above all students.
Find people to study with. Bliss sucks but his exams are online, no honorlock. They questions are impossible. This class is no cake walk just find friends in the class. Final grade is basically just exams and very little homework.
