Dr. Brill is ++ dedicated/a good guy in general. Really makes class interesting.
boring lectures. dl his notes n read book sometmes go2class bc will be on exam
Nice guy, don't really have to go to class- just read book thoroughly
Super nice guy, get to know him! I study well, attended class, & failed
No Comments
It was an easy class, how hard can intro psych be? But he made the notes available so even if you didn't go you could pass (with an A).

pretty interesting stuff
dont even have to go to class all the slides are online but yet all our tests were open book
lectures are boring, tests are very hard and very science-based--not open-book. only psych prof. to require a supp. instructor b/c so many students fail.
Very nice teacher and cares about teaching material to his students. Very easy class with downloadable slides so you do not need to attend class. Easy multiple choice tests...non-cumulative. Kind of boring lectures but tries to add interesting vid clip
For a challenging class, this prof is very interesting. He's very approachable and answers any questions you may have. However, when it comes to his tests, you must understand the material!!It's not an easy class, but one can get a A.
definitely makes cognition interesting. very difficult exams but studying is not difficult because he made material clearin class. The hard part is being able to use the material... exams force you to think.
If you want to read an entire textbook in one sesmester I reccomend this class because to get an A you need to do the reading the slides can get you away with not attending class but the only thing that sucks is the slides are not detailed enough
Very general class, but it was an intro course so that's what should be expected. He was always very welcome to questions and students that had problems - I recommend taking his class
easy as hell
Horrible class... so boring and he tries to make up for it by putting in boring films... but it is possible to get a good grade without going to class...
He didn't seem to care too much.
Pretty clear material. He's kinda corny, but a good teacher. Someone needs to tell him to slow the hell down when he show his powerpoint slides.
not bad
unbelievably boring. book is incoherent (written by prof Glass). I warn you against taking this class...
he doesnt seem to care AT ALL...i asked him for help and he told me i had a learning disability?!?!?!? his tests are extremely HARD and the material on the tests are not covered in class and classes are beyond boring....
Very approachable, good teacher, friendly, if you study, you will do well, tests really aren't that bad, and you will learn a lot, pretty interesting course
You MUST READ THE BOOK to pass the tests. I thought the lectures were fun and interesting, not boring at all, but I was also quite interested in the subject. Not very helpful outside of class, though.
He is very good. Do not listen to your peers when they say he is hard they are lying! all you have to do is go to class and listen to him his tests mostly consist of examples he uses in class.
Easy class. Just read the book and show up for class. Use the practice tests he gives online as a guidline for exams. If you're good at multiple choice Q's this is a very easy class. Not necissary to show up to every lecture.
Very good teacher, very interesting class, if you work right, youll get an A
didn't study for tests, just printed out class slides n went to class, got n A.
Very unhelpful- refuses to answer questions- he'll just send you to a TA. He's like 55 and he still admits to spending weekends playing video games on his PS2...
Very easy class, tests are not too difficult, lectures are interesting...but now very willing to help you outside of class...he never even had any office hours, only the TA did
good videos during class and provides us with class notes to print out for class- very helpful!
I'm split with this guy. He does have some cool videos and some pretty good experiment demos. Too bad they don't all have to do with our topic. He's funny and a nice teacher, but the exams... THE EXAMS...!
HE IS SO BORING!! HIS EXAMS ARE HARD AND YOU BETTER STUDY BC THEIR IS NO COPYING IN HIS CLASS>>HE ARRANGES THE TESTS WITH SEATS....DONT TAKE HIM!!!
Above all this is a fair class. You get what you put in. Brill's a nice guy and has some really cool videos/demos, but it's not always the funnest lecture. Exams are 20 multiple choice questions, open-book, but they force you to understand the material
he's a great teacher, do the work and you'll definetly get an A.
He was such a good guy but you have to go to class and take lots of notes.. I didnt read the book at all and got a B+ but I listened well in class and sucked up a little bit. ;-)
awesome
Brill is the worst teacher in the psych dept.He puts all his notes online, but his tests are really hard.I studied the notes and read the whole book and still only got a D.The average grade for the class was a C.
Lectures are very easy to follow. Exams are based on lecture more than book, so if you only rely on the online notes, you won't be able to ace the exam! Best advice: go to the lectures, and it's an easy A+.
A bit monotonous lecturer, but he always sticks in something interesting. The book is a complete joke, useless vague information, just go to lectures with the slide printouts and jot down notes and you should do alright, though the open book exams suck.
not extremely easy, but feasible.you have to be able to read+understand the book.he's real nice guy, always open to questions.lectures are interesting.go to lecture, print+take notes, look over book, and u'll get the A
boring but easy, so you don't need to go to class, just read the book and you'll do fine :)
Open book exam was a joke Got an A and rarely went to class. He's a nice guy and good professor
great class, presents material in an interesting way. Notes are all posted online, so even if you don't go to class you still know what's going. Easy class if you just study the lecture notes.
he changed the class to a closed book exam, BUT the exam is sooo NOT easy. online practice exam makes it seem like its going to be OK, then he hands out this terribly confusing exam. The average between the 2 first exams for the class was a a low C.
Actually dropped his class b/c i was failing. As are many of my friends still in it. Don't take this class if psych isn't your major. Can be interesting but his tests are really difficult. Big curve tho: 80=A.. yet that's still VERY hard to get.
The material is interesting. The book for the class is written very poorly (by another Rutgers Professor). His exams are the most confusing I have ever had in a psych class. Brill is a nice guy, but try cognition with someone else.
Easy. Notes all online but he shows videos in class the will be on the test, so to do good, show up. Videos also help keep the class interesting.
Teaches similarly to his Intro class. Online notes, boring lectures, not so easy exams. Uses a horrible book, and lectures are too broad and then tests with very specific questions. Must read in detail to pass.
Exams got harder Spring 04. Changed books. Class is okay, but exams are hard.
His class is much harder than it used to be-no more open book. You need to go to class and read the book to do well.
Exams were painful.
ugh... no more open book exams-exams not too difficult if u study-what he talks about is on exams-takes him 20 min to put everyone in assigned seating at every exam so ppl don't cheat-so by the time hes done sitting ppl down, half the class is done w/exam
sucks
I thought it was the easiest class ever, but ended up getting a C. His exams look extremely easy, but are actually hard. Go to class, read book and notes.
boring and hard. only take this course if it's a requirement
Very hard. Made my life miserable. Exams extremely difficult, classes boring, and no matter how much you study, you're still lost when you take the exam.
not an easy class at all, his lecture is boring but you have to go cause he plays videos and asks specific questions about them on the exam, thought i knew the info but his questions are so random and specific
HARD AS HEEZY.....very unclear, it seems like the more studying you do for this class, the lower your exams grade gets...this seriously happened to me....dont take this guy for cognition
horrible professor, hard class!
Brill is a very cocky man. He is very organized to the point of being anal. his exams are tricky, so study hard and know what he is talking about in class, if you don't you'll fail the exams
Horrible class!!!!!! extremely boring. There is a ton of information to memorize and all he does is read of his power point slides which are available online.
it was hard, but his class was great. I actually felt like I was learning things.
Very nice dude. Lots of videos in class, Noted posted online, rather simple tests. Learned alot.
Everyone who says brill's class is hard has got to be a moron. i didn't even know there was an exam scheduled for one of them, took it blindly, never read the book, and still got a B. pay attention in class and talk to him, he's a great person.
Well yeah, the intro psych class isn't tough, the Cognition one IS though. Tricky exams and the book we used by Arnold Glass had gramatical errors galore! You can tell it was written by a science guy.
pretty easy class. Don't have to read the book (and it's good, cause the book is terrible!). just listen to him in class and study his outlines.
I love his class! It's the only one I have this semester that I actually want to go to. He makes a fairly dull subject really fun. And he shows a lot of videos so you won't fall asleep. Exams are great too. Short and easy, least in my opinion, but I'm a CS major.
This teacher is very boring. He makes points that no one but him understands and he never has the answer to questions. He always says "I don't know, I'll get back to you on that"
He is so boring. He was very prepared, but it didnt take from the fact that he had no idea what he was talking about. And to make it worse, He wrote the hardest exams ever. I mean, 101- you should get an A...and its actually difficult in that class.
you study for hours and hours for 4 chapters-then there is only 45 questions from 200 pages-no wonder 80% is an A!! this sucks. 101 classes should be easy.rutgers sucks
Great lecturer, semi-hard tests. I had Brill for 101, and got an A in that class, so I took him again. Cog is a bit more difficult, but the prof uses a lot of the same slides from his 101 course (in the begining, at least). You'll get a B or better if you go to lecture. But the book is garbage.
The class is not an easy A. But if you read the book and go to the lectures, u'll get that A. The tests are detail, but there is a pretty good curve at the end. The professor is a good lecturer, but sometimes takes general psych too seriously...
this guy is the most boring man alive...i wonder what he does in his spare time...i caught him behind my shed finding flo...
Soooo boring, and the textbook (by Glass) has horrible grammar, and amazingly is more boring than he is. He shows a lot of videos in class, which is his only redeeming feature. He's really nice and helpful, but so is a tranquilizer dart to the neck at putting you to sleep.
Brill is the worst psych teacher I have ever had. I went to every class, kept my notes together and studied them, and I still managed to fail the course. I ended up retaking it during the summer with a different professor, and I did much better. So take it during the summer with a different teacher.
you might as well not go to lecture cause all he does is read straight from the notes and show boring videos...however some videos are on the exams, that's the only reason worth goin to class. have to study hard to earn a B.
Pretty good teacher. The class covers a lot of stuff, so he has to rush through a lot of stuff. The videos are fun and he has a pretty good sense of humor, surprisingly not corny despite his appearance. Tests are pretty difficult, but having everything online helps. Study hard! I recommend him.
okay he could have been the most boring prof ever!!! his lectures were straight from the online notes--the only thing different from them was the videos which were terrible. his tests were hard and i studied a lot and am only coming out with a c...
I went to lecture maybe 3 times all semester, and I easily got an A. Just read the book and his online notes, and you'll be fine.
ok dont be misled by the last rating.... it is NOT that easy. i went to every lecture, studied for every exam and i kept getting 28s out of 45.. the only reason i ended up with a B as my final grade was bc the final was ridiculously easy.. nice guy but tricky midterms
Great class......boring professor. You have to go to class and read the book to do ok on his tests. But i ended up with a B+
he gives you the notes online but you should defintly still go to class he is very interesting and he makes him self avivalbe to help and gives you online practice tests this is a good class
no good
not as bad as people make him out to be. the subject is very boring but he tried, he loves to help those who come to him, his test have questions of movies that he shows so u have to go to class
very boring. if you are looking for any easy class that you don't have to go to, take this class. His notes are online and all he does in calss is read them aloud, so if you can read, don't let him insult your intelligence and dont go to class.
i loved him. His videos and lectures were really interesting. Some stuff from the book was on the tests that he didn't discuss in class...but still overall a good teacher.
i loved this class!i never went and got an 'a'.i learned a lot and used some of my obtained knowledge from this class in subsequest psych classes. all u have 2 do is read, take book quizzes and read his lectures(posted online)-good 2 attend at least 45% of classes(once a week every other week:)
Great Teacher that puts together an awesome class with movies and great notes BUT, his tests are extremely hard, they are all multiple choice but are EXTREMELY tricky and wordy so watch out, you must read and go to class to do good but he's interesting. I'd steer clear unless you want to do work.
horribly boring prof but easy material if you do the reading and you dont have to go to class since everything important is online
nice guy, makes an effort to be accessible. notes are online. lecture is dull, but there's videos. covers a lot of material, studying is a must. easy to do well, depending on how much time you want to put in.
Took him for intro psych and lots of cognition slides were from his intro class. Easy A if you go to ALL THE LECTURES. You DON'T HAVE TO READ THE BOOK if you go to the lectures. I didn't open Glass's book after chap. 1 (boring crap) and just went to lecture. Got an A. You can too--take good notes.
His classes are kinda boring, you have to do the reading, because most of the questions on his exams are from there. I attended classes regularly and skipped a few readings and ended up with a B+, so it can't be too hard...he does curve in the end as well, despite what he says
he's a good teacher. i went to maybe 3 classes and got an A.
Nice guy, makes class interesting, hard tests
I passed his class hes good by me lol
It's not that he is easy...its just that hez really really easy...i mean..practically..come to class and read the book and u will get an A guaranteed..hez da best and there 2 help u any time..if u ever have to take psych without getting 2 into it..take brill...
Brill was boring, lots and lots of reading.. and the test were super hard. I failed.. haha. So i suggest not taking his class, he's a funny dude.. but not the best teacher.
Esiest class ever. He is so organized and uses the CPS interactive system. Go to class and you will get an A.
With the CPS interactive system, as long as you go to class, extra credit should give you the A. I learned a lot, the class was extremely interesting with videos too. Brill is a damn good professor and is truly understanding to the students. Definetly in the top 3 classes I've ever taken.
i'd def recommend him..he curves, he's direct and easy to understand. exams arent difficult, require moderate studying..hes an easy A.
all i have to say is CPS. go to each class and get 80% of the questions right and get above 60/100 total points from the 3 exams and your garaunteed an A. he is a great teacher and makes a hard class fairly enjoyable. Okay im lying its boring as hell but he tries. Good Stuff.
With the CPS,this class is a breeze. There is NO need to read the book as long as u GO to class and the videos and most of the material is very INTERESTING!! Brill is one of the best professors I've had!!
i went to most of his classes, got B's on all 3 of his exams and got an A on the final and got away with an A for the course. It's an easy class and the professor is nice and there are plenty of videos to keep the class interesting. brill rocks!
only the 3rd class and i love brill .. he makes hard information sooo easy to retain. good stuff.
Most of the work is done on your own, but for teaching a lecture hall with hundreds of kids, he does a very good job. He's in tune with the needs of the students. Is very nice and easy to talk to. Organizes information so that it's easy to learn. Guaranteed A with the MyPsychLab!
Great teacher, one of the best at Ruts. He is so knowledgeable about this topic. You need to study and read the book, but any questions you have, he will answer. The TA is even better, she explains it all in a nutshell.
He is really good at explaining, and he makes an effort to make the class interesting, by far the best professor i have this semester
umm DO NOT take this class unless you are intending to major in it. Me and 3 other ppl took this class bc of his great reviews and bombed. Way too much reading and his required book is $100. goodluck
The book may be $100, but he blatantly tells you that you do NOT need to buy it. I didnt, and got an A in his class. Very easy, his lectures are ALL on powerpoint and are EXTREMELY helpful. He shows videos, so you have to go to class if you want to really well on the exams (there are 4).
Awesome professor, interesting class, and a reasonably easy A. He keeps you interested because it's obvious he loves what he does; very knowledgable. Take his course!
Don't know what everyone is talking about, his exams are hard. Not an easy A at all.
Hypocritical and a bit condesending
class is an easy A if you just study from the online lecture notes. helps to attend lecture because material is very interesting but probably not necessary. exams are fairly easy and noncumulative (even the final!). brill really knows what he's talking about and makes it easy to understand. highly recommend this class.
Only professor that doesnt make you write essays, or memorize which psycologists did what. He's more intrested in you understanding the concept. If you get 80% or better than it is an A. All exams are out of 45 questions including final. FInal has the same weight as the other 3 exams. Take him if you can.
Not so easy that you don't have to study, but he really doesn't ask too much of you. He's a great teacher (very clear, interesting to listen to, and easy to relate to), and the material in interesting. All the lecture notes and the textbook are online.
i didn't even study for the 3rd exam and passed it. just listen closely at lecture and you'll get off with at least a C. the class itself is kinda boring but brill is a cool guy; very funny; chooses videos that make the class more interesting. and unlike some professors at this school, he responds to emails and puts the lectures online. very
nice guy, classes were eh, slides all on-line, tests were somewhat hard.
I'm so glad I had Professor Brill for psych 101. You only need 160/200 points in the class to get an A, 80% of his tests are from lecure, not reading, and his final is just the 4th test- not cumulative! Plus, 20 points of the class are a given anyway because they're internet quizzes. Plus, lots of cool movies
Very fair professor. At times the material can get a bit dry. He does a good job selecting interesting videos though to maintain interest during lectures. The exams aren't easy enough that you can get an A without studying, but none of them, including the final, are cumulative. He understands that General Psychology is only an intro course.
Go to lecture, read the notes and parts of the book, and you'll be fine. Prof. Brill is really interesting and funny, makes class enjoyable. Tests aren't cumulative and there's very little work involved. Highly suggested.
nice professor, gives you notes which you can print out; 4 exams non-cumulative, 45 qs on each exam NO CURVE; he shows a lot of movie clips in class so it is helpful to go to class sometimes qs from the movies show up on exams; key to getting an A is to read the book and use his notes ONLY as an outline of what sections of the text to read
I did terrible on the tests, and found the info to be not as easy as i expected...so thank god he's a fair grader.and the cps saved me too.it's annoying, and your never sure how your doing till the end, but i actually ended up learning alot.
Prof Brill is awesome. He's funny and understanding and really makes an effort to know his students even in a giant lecture. Very helpful both after and during class and online. His tests are not easy but the CPS system more than makes up for it. You cannot fail this class if you attend it and answer the questions(doesnt have to be right answers)
eh wasnt that bad. take every test seriously.. i bombed the 1st 2 exams and did good on the final. gets easier as semester goes along. hardest test are 1st 2. stuff was pretty interested. go to class. brill is pretty striaght forward
not an easy A. u gotta read everything and study alot and go to class to get an A. but hes as easy as they come for gen psych professors. not a boring guy (went to some lectures) got a B. class is precurved. 150/200 is an A i believe
Awesome teacher! I really enjoyed everything he tuaght in his class. Uses CPS system in class which really helps out your grade. Tests are a little difficult but as long as you study the material and pay attention in class you're guaranteed an A/B.
So how easy was this class? I could have skipped out on the final and still had an A. Brill's explanations are clear and concise, and the subject matter is quite interesting. Show up to class and pay attention, and all will be good.
WHEN YOU READ THE LECTURE NOTES REFER TO THE BOOK AND READ THE SECTION. did bad on 1st 2 exams and finally figured out how to study..got near perfect score on final pulled a B to an A. DO THE CPS IT HELPS!!! was surprised to see my A. : ) !!!!TAKE HIM!!!! cognition is overall boring but do-able.
SUCH a cute little man. Get 100% for attendance, there is no excuse for not getting an A. Tests are hard by the CPS questions will boost your grade GREATLY. Is very helpful, shows lots of movies that make class go by a lot faster. If you take cognition, take it with him!!!
dont expect an easy A. go to class, pay attention, then clarify and reread topics in your book. CPS will help your grade a huge amount, so DO NOT skip class. the safety net of the CPS grades compensates for his ****ing exams. Very clear, funny at times, does his best to make material enjoyable. videos are nice. great professor. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Brill is the greatest! He posts all his notes on line, shows tons of videos, and does all kinds of experiments in class. The tests are really straightforward. The only thing is you have to go to class because he asks questions about specific videos shown in class.
He was a very good teacher, interesting, and knows what hes talking about. he shows lots of videos (pay attention cause he might ask you about them on tests)i never bought the book cause its online for cheaper and if u just do the mypsych lab quizes online the tests are a breeze.
Great teacher, seems to really care about students and the material. Tests were challenging though so make sure you study. Overall Brill is a good professor.
I love Brill! I love Brill! I love Brill! Brill is the greatest professor. Fun, interesting, and teaches really well. There are 3 exams, each 30 questions. Not exactly the easiest class but Brill really explains it thoroughly and the TA holds review sessions. TAKE IT!
He is such a cute little man! He is such a good teacher and really knows his stuff. He is very helpful and goes the extra mile to help his students. His exams are kind of tricky and you do have to study. If you go to the review session before the exam you should be fine. You have to go class becayse he uses the CPS. REALLY GOOD CLASS!!! I <3 Brill!
Professor Brill is an extremely intelligent professor and he cares about how you do in the class. Yes you do have to go to every class because of the CPS system (which counts toward extra credit every class) and the exams are only 30-40 questions. The material is interesting and if you study you can pull off a good grade.
Brill is awesome! I didn't study too much and still got an A. It was an interesting class. His slides were online and helpful, but I attended because he was such a good lecturer.
The class is not easy--well not an easy A. But it is very interesting and if you study notes, go to class, and maybe review from the book you will be able to get the A. Professor Brill is very nice and clear and helpful. Even though its not an easy A, I would defintely take him. Worth it!
not an easy A but CPS helps you a lot. just study notes on slides and take few notes in class and you'll do fine.
Brill is an outstanding in stucture. He is very smart and looks like bird with glasses. the exam are challengeing but the cps LITERALLY saves ur grad. I got a C and a D on the 1st 2 exam, but got a B for the class. O and i ont no sht about if ull need the book, cuz i didnt have it... i didnt even no the colar of our book @_@ Def take this class
class is impossible to get an A, his exams are ridiculous, but he is an amazing professor, he is clear, and he very organized, and the cps questions help u with the material - i would take him again even though i worked my ass off and only got an 87
Dr. Brill is a nice guy who is willing to help students. The class is somewhat interesting, but can be boring at times. Don't waste your money on the textbook, it is completely useless. Print off Dr. Brill's powerpoint notes and study them. Go to lecture for the CPS because it helps your final grade significantly.
flunked one exam and got a c on the other two and mangaged to get a b+ in the class.. CPS points + final curve + moderatly difficult exams = good times!
The material is not easy or interesting, but he manages to make class fun. As hard as it was, i managed to get an 80 on his exams total, miraculously understood the material, and got an A thanks to the curve (and the CPS). Take cognition with Brill, I just wish he taught Physio, too =[
best teacher I ever had. He is so clear and the class is interesting. I wish he taught all psych courses. He also really cares what you think of his class so give him input, good and bad. It's not worth it to take this class with anyone else, he's the best. He's also so sweet. Do the work and show up and you'll do great
I wish I have him as my professor for every psych class! His lectures are amazingly clear! I love how he combines the videos with his lectures. It's an automatic A if you go to the lectures and read the book. I got an A and I didn't take notes and went to all his lectures without any printed notes or paper and pens.
Totally worth taking. The tests are way easier than you'd think, especially if you do the online pre- and post-tests. Great lectures, but make sure you take notes during them! Really good use of technology to supplement the course. Also, really helpful when you have problems. Just beware of clicker failure.
Overall, a great prof. Lectures were interesting, though make sure you read the book. Exams were more indepth than the notes went, however still not very difficult. Also, exams are only worth 50% of the grade, with the other portion being class part. and clicker questions. This makes the class a fairly easy A, or at least a B with little effort.
Not the easiest A in the world, but with effort, it is readily attainable. He is an excellent professor but his course is relatively demanding in that you have to absorb large sums of knowledge very quickly. You really have to read all 600+ pages of the textbook if you want to know your stuff, but I liked the book and found it enriching.
Brill is an awesome General Psychology professor. Read the book + Print the lecture notes = Assured A in exams including final and Online Homework. Don't be a fool and skip any of his classes - Make sure you answer all of the Clicker Questions and get an easy A for that. Don't leave RPU's for last minute. Do them immediately! A+ Professor!
Okay. I didn't try as hard in this class as I should have, but I still have to say that Professor Brill is an awesome man. He's very clear in class, very approachable, and a good guy. I'd recommend him to anyone. :)
not the easiest A but if you take the time to read the book then there shouldn't be a problem, he's the nicest teacher and really wants to see you succeed, he gives you two chances to really get your grade up with online quizzes and clicker questions, highly recommended
overall this class is easy, but if you have any problem with clickers at all you get screwed. He is a good guy and a good professor, but will NOT budge at all in terms of help with the clicker. So if you get a bad one, you are a little screwed.
Brill is AWESOME! Very nice person, but the clickers he uses are awful. Make sure to do all of the work, it's an easy grade. Make sure you go to all classes and complete RPU's in the beginning.
Brill is probably the most intellegent man at Rutgers. He is the quintessential professer. Takes very complicated material and explains it on a very comprehendable level. Don't miss a class, takes notes, print out class slides and you'll get at least a B. Tests are multiple choice. NOT easy A, only take if you are interested in subject.
The man is estatic and energetic all class. The material is easy. All you have to do is go to class.
He was a nice guy but the clickers got annoying and his exams werent easy. Take him if you are really interested in the course and expect to work hard.
Relies on clickers way too much. A nice and friendly prof, and will get to know people before class. Sit in the front middle and you may actual enjoy the class and not fall asleep.
He is a very good professor, who wants to get to know his students personally, and learns the names of most of the students in the class. If you have interest in psych, this would be the course you take. However, if you're looking for an easy A, don't take Brill. Exam Q's aren't easy, THERE'S NO CURVE and NO EXTRA CREDIT. an 89 is a B+ nomatterwhat
AWESOME CLASS. def. worth taking. tests come directly from lecture and post tests (which are really easy) tests worth only 50% but you have to go to class. enjoyed every min of it. and he is very understanding
class and material easy. pay attention to those clicker questions and the study guide is very helpful. do those 2 things and you will pass exams with flying colors!
REMEMBER THIS: SIT IN THE FRONT!! he learns your name when you're in the front, and remember the clicker questions because they are always on the test. The online assignments are also on the exams. Just do the online assignments and show up to class to do the clicker questions and you should pass.
i sat in the back and kept to myself so i never really talked to him or introduced myself, but he was awesome-really nice, explained things thoroughly and really well, showed a lot of interesting videos....overall really good professor and seems extremely approachable and friendly....exams aren't too bad if you study-always go to class for clickers
Amazing teacher, definitely a great class. Held your interest and tried to learn the names of as many students he could in a 350 person lecture hall.
Overall it's a really easy class if you put in effort. He's a laid back and funny guy. Usually cracks jokes in class. He grades very fairly (exams combined are only 50% of grade). The material is fairly easy, and he uses videos to help explain a lot of it.Basically,do the work, read and study & you'll get an A.
Overall .. a good class. I like how he incorporates videos and class discussions so you're not just listening to an hour and 20 minute lecture like other professors. Not too hard of a class, you really do need to read the textbook though. Make sure you do the online homework questions and go to class to do clicker questions.
He changed his was of teaching, from previous years his exams were directly from clicker quizzes and online homework, however, he must have noticed a lot of people doing well so he changed up his style, it is no longer an easy Cohen Psych class its a legitimate class.
I really enjoyed this class. Prof Brill is just so lively and his ways are so quirky (in a good way) that he makes the class entertaining. Sure, I fell asleep a couple of times, but really, going to class was worth it. Go to class for clicker questions, READ THE TEXT, and study hard! It'll be an easy class if you do. I got a B+.
Professor Brill is a good teacher and I learned an immense amount from him however I disliked how much he relied on the text book. Also, his exams were extremely difficult and the final was cummulative. It is not mandatory to attend class but I highly suggest going because the clicker grade can help you alot.I would recommend finding an easier teacher
Legitimately nice guy, really wants to see his students succeed...very helpful with whatever you need, a rarity at RU...class itself didn't require too much, if you don't have a lot of common sense, you'll need to study...I cruised to a B...notes are online, HW is online, clicker Q's during class...I like his teaching style, student-friendly...
Really enjoyed his class. Made lessons interesting by showing us movies & video clips (watched part of the matrix one day!)If you want him to get to know you, sit in the front two rows. His tests were pretty reasonable. Read the book: it will help. GO TO CLASS, bc almost half your grade is made up of clicker questions during class. Really nice guy
Really nice guy
he gets really boring during lecture but he tries to keep the topic interesting. he just tends to go on and on. overall he's easy though and also easy-going. he uses clickers so you might have to go to class
Class is very easy, but you learn a lot... material is presented in an interesting way. Highly recommended
NO EXTRA CREDIT whatsoever, so don't bother asking for it b/c the answer will indefinitely be no. That being said, 50% of the class grade is from attendance clicker questions, and online open book quizzes. I failed the first exam and managed to get a B+. If you're not a day to day studier, expect to cram 2-300 pages of reading per exam. Fairly easy
Professor Brill was an OKAY teacher..as everyone stated he relies a lot on clicker questions..50% of the grade is the online assignments and clicker questions..studied a lot for his exams which were NOT easy..average for the exams were in the 40's and did not curve but I came out with a B..NO EXTRA CREDIT..would not recommend him
He is a great proffesor with a great grading system. gotta love the fact that u can average an 80% test average and still get an A in the course, all u gotta do is spend 20 min before every class doing online assignment and go to class to get easy clicker questions
An excellent teacher. His exams come right from his clicker and homework questions, which always come from the notes or the book. Some keys to success: Attend the lectures, they may not always be entertaining but they are informative and a large part of your grade. And read the textbook. A great professor, try your hardest to get into his section!
great professor and nice grading system. though there are clickers and online assignments, they're helpful. read the book- it helps a lot. overall, pretty easy class. do the work and you'll do fine.
Pro. Brill is an OKAY teacher he isn't as nice and easy as everyone says. Attendance is definitely mandatory becuz clicker questions and online homeworks are worth 50% of your grade. Lectures are extremely boring sometimes but material is not difficult to understand. READ THE TEXTBOOK or you will fall behind. Exams are straightforward but not easy.
Not an easy course if you slack off. You will need to know the material like the back of your hand and the online assignments demands at least 45mins before every class. Clicker Q's too demand you keep up with the reading. The other 50% of your grade is on exams which I thought concentrated more on names & parts of the brain than expected.
Brill is an excellent professor. Because of his grading system, I ended up needing something like a 65 on the final to keep my A. He's very clear and very into what he is teaching - he really cares about the subject. Going to class isn't hard because he makes it very interesting. You'll want to be there.
very hard tests but the clicker and hw questions are worth 50% of the grade so its not all that bad. I recommend cohen instead...she gives out lots of extra credit and is pretty easy.
Professor Brill is a nice enough guy but he's not super engaging. Some classes are more interesting than others. His online assignments are very helpful (for you and your grade). One major plus is that he's always willing to help you if you need help. Overall he's a decent teacher. It's not hard to do well.
i luv psych, so it helps to be interested in what ur taking. clickers r used in first 5-15 minutes of class and r extremely important for attendance grade. so don't b late! it's also easier not 2 fall asleep in class if u sit in front. definitely read CAREFULLY for the online assignments. study for exams using online assignments and assigned readin
He's a great teacher. Attendance is pretty important, because he uses the clickers during EVERY LECTURE. However, he drops the lowest 20% of your clicker grades, as well as your homework grades. To be honest, you really have a problem if you cannot manage to get a C or higher in his class.
I am taking his general psych now.obviously you must attend to his class and read the book to get an A (this is reasonable). He is very helpful, he answered all my questions (just send him a email!) but its not that extremely esay to get an A in his class i think.
His exams are harder than other teachers' and he doesn't curve at all, but clicker questions and online assignments are half your grade and he drops the lower scores. He is really nice, approachable, and friendly. And his videos are funny.
I love Brill, he's the best professor I've had. There are so many opportunities to boost your grade and he's really funny. Paying attention in class is mandatory because of clickers, but it is still worthwhile. And he's hot! So take his class. You won't be disappointed.
He is a great teacher if you are looking to go into psychology. The mandatory homework assignments and in class clicker quizzers are a pain, but really boost your grade. Class gets boring sometimes, but he is a good professor
LOL i can't believe someone said he was hot, but he does know his stuff! he's really nice and approachable. If you pay attention and average 85% or better on online hw, you start off with a 100. It's up to you to do well on exams to get a good grade - and for that you need to average like 87% or better. Not hard. His movie clips are funny.
I got a 77.5 average on the tests and final and still got an A. Requires a lot of reading and you have to go to every class because of clicker scores, but easy to do well in. Good lecturer, too.
3 exams - 50%. online assignments (1 after every class) - 20%. in-class clicker questions - 30%. do hw and go to class, then you're good to go. DON'T SLACK YOU'LL REGRET IT! This is the professor to take to engage you in the material. Can't do horrible unless you outright ignore what's asked. Oh yea, NO MYSTERY CURVES!
Wow, I feel like I should provide a counterpoint to all the gushing. Prof.Brill is a good lecturer. However, he is not a lenient grader. Why take him when you have access to profs like Cohen or Layton who not only gives extra credit, but on the first exam, everyone got A or B with only 2 Cs vs. Brill's 50% students got 68=C. Go with the easy A Prof
he's a good guy but his slides don't help much. just read the book and you'll get an A
great teacher, attendance is mandatory, reading is a must, i got an 80 on the first midterm, i failed the other midterm and the final but still got a B (and i legit failed with and without the curve). doing well on the homework assignments can really help you and his classes are interesting and he's not boring.
great teacher
Good Professor. Interesting material and Videos..Will help the student if you come to him and ask for it...Exams seem wordy and can be difficult. Alot of reading and online homeworks and in class clicker questions can really help your grade
makes class super interesting with all his videos and preparation. clickers and online assignments are mandatory but they help a lot. great professor.
attendance/hw quizzes mandatory- make sure you keep up with the reading b/c everybody's questions on the hw are different. definitely need the book. exams are pretty easy if you studied enough. pretty boring lecturer. don't forget your clicker!
great professor. you will learn alot. just go to class do the readings and home work and you will at least get a B. wonderful person best prof i have had so far. dont take general psych with anyone else
Great Prof. Overall easy class.
Great professor. Use iclicker for attendance. Readings and hw are mandatory before each class begins. Keep up with the readings! Very clear and enthusiastic about his teaching. Goes over awesome and interesting topics. If you go to classes, do all the readings and hw it should be an easy A+! Just look at the consensus about this teacher!! :)
Great professor.Definitely knows what he is talking about and you will learn a lot in this class.20 question multiple choice online assignments weekly.2 exams, 1 final. Not an easy A but nothing difficult just read and do the work and ull be fine. Make sure u do the clicker n online assignments they help your grade alot.
Professor Brill is great. His class was not too boring, and the grading system took pressure off during tests and exams. Just show up to class with the clickers and do the online assignments...they will help you study naturally instead of cramming.
Fun and interesting class. I never took psych before so I was new to everything but I still passed with a good grade. The clicker questions throughout lecture makes the class feel like a game show! He provides podcast lectures on sakai, which helped a lot if you missed lecture. You have to read to for h/w and clicker though.
I love him, he is adorable, and a genius. I wish he wasn't married.
he's sizzlin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brill is an awesome prof. You do have to do your share of work for this class, like reading the book thoroughly and doing the online assignments, but it helps come exam time. He plays videos in class and has clicker questions throughout the lecture which makes you pay attention more. Overall made psych easy to understand and a pretty easy A.
Great lecturer, very well-designed class. You learn a lot. He doesn't just ask common-sense questions; he actually makes you think.
Best. Professor. Ever.
His lectures are somewhat boring and then when you study for weeks for exams and get a C, he basically says it would be useless to consult him about it so there goes your grade. horrible teacher
He's a good professor. A little boring but helpful and clear. I believe he's head of the dept. You have to go to class.. if you miss clicker q's your grade will drop quickly. This class wasn't outright hard, but frustrating because I studied for a whole week prior to each exam and still got in the 75% range, & I thought I knew the material well. =(
His exams are hard but if you have an interest in the subject it shouldnt be too bad... AND his sakai assignments along with clicker scores helps your grade so much! He drops 20 wrong QUESTIONS from sakai and 20% of wrong answers in clicker scores... so basically your garanteed an A in those 2 areas. I got all Cs in his exams and still got a B+
HATE his exams. no office hours. dont like him.
I had him for general psych. His exams have a good number of questions that will make you double guess yourself. Clicker questions are 25% of your grade so that takes some weight of the exams. If memorization is not your thing then this class is not your thing.
An extremely nice and helpful professor who genuinely cares for this students and takes an interest in their educational well-being. Love him! Clicker questions are the best and really help with the grade although the tests are slightly tricky. Good class and you genuinely learn a lot without even trying!
great professor whose classes you must attend to get clicker points. the clicker keeps you involved and up to date although the best method would be to study for each class beforehand. got an easy A that way. everyone loves GBRILL
LOVED him. really, REALLY cares about his students, its amazing. he's always available, always trying to make the class as interesting as possible, which can be really hard considering not all the topics are exciting. And again, really takes care of students. gonna miss him!
Great teacher. However to get an A you do need to go to class for attendence/clicker questions. Exams are okay but not horrible just make sure you go over his slides and the book. Overall a really good prof.
Although attendance is mandatory because you have to answer clicker questions based on mostly his last lecture or things from the book it helps your grade a great deal. You must also fulfill your RPU requirement (become part of an experiment). Other than that he is a wonderful guy who everyone can tell loves his job. definitely recommend him!
Brill is the most intelligent professor/teacher I've ever had. Not only does he have a pleasant voice, but his lectures are very interesting. He occasionally shows video clips which add to the interest. At first, I thought I was going to to very poorly in the class, but the clicker questions and curve help A LOT, so be sure to attend every class!
Do not study the night before for exams! I failed the first two exams, aced the final, and had a 99% from clicker points. I ended up with a C+. He is extremely nice and is helpful. I could of definitely have gotten an A if I didn't study last minute. Come to class and read the book!
Had him for Gen psych honors, it was a great class and he taught it very well. Have to go to every lecture for clicker questions, which is a grade booster. Have to read the book and keep up but tests are fairly easy if you do and pay attention in class.
Great professor who knows his stuff. don't expect an A if you're not willing to work hard. have to read the book in order to do well and get clicker questions. clicker questions easy way to help grade because exams are somewhat tricky. overall great class and great professor!
the only downside in some regards to brill is the mandatory attendance cause of the clicker questions however can really help u out cause its worth 30%.. if u read the lecture slides, text book and do the multiple choice question he gives u will do fine.. personally thought the exams were really easy.. and im not a psych major/minor take him easy A
He's a really nice guy but as you have probably heard, he is one of the hardest Psych teachers if not the hardest. His slides are boring but some of the material is interesting. He does a curve at the end with the last exam. He's a good teacher, but the class is not an easy A.
good professor. uses clicker to take attendance and asks about 10-12 questions per class with the clicker, few from the nights reading few to keep your attention during class. definitely do the readings before class. curves at the end of the semester. 2 exams
Great professor but you really have to work hard to get an A...clicker questions help alot with 30% towards grade.
Great professor! He has straightforward, clear lectures and genuinely cares about his students. I learned so much in this course.
this class could be boring sometimes but it was an easy class u just had to do the readings and pay attention the clicker questions just reflect what u should hav learned which is good and the exams were actually pretty easy if u study which i didnt but he's a fair and caring prof i liked him a lot
Gary Brill is awesome!! I took the honors section of gen psych with him. His class was the only one I went to all semester, haha. Class is pretty much mandatory but easy to pay attention to because he's very clear when lecturing. Do minimal work and you will get an A in this class!
hardest psych 101 professor. everyone else is getting A's but people in Brill's class are lucky with a C+. he knows what he is talking about, but very hard to pay attention
Brill really is an awesome guy. Attendance is mandatory since he uses lecture quizzes although they are easy so it pads your grade and he only has 2 exams. Read the book, pay attention and study and you really won't have too much of an issue. Additionally, he is really nice and tries to meet every person who sits up front.
Incredible human being, went to his office hours and was amazed by just how much knowledge he has. Gives the best advice. But I will admit that his cliker qs are hard, and you def need to study in order to get a good grade. Other than that, his great..just go to his office hours and talk to him..more than willing to converse with you about anything
Overall he was a very boring teacher who was not very helpful. The only good thing about his class is that clicker questions save your grade if you attend class. The bottom 20% of your scores are dropped and clicker questions are 30% of your grade. I would recommend a different teacher because there are better psych teachers at this school.
I don't know what everyone is complaining about. This class was so easy. I took the honors version, btw. All you have to do is read the textbook and attend class to answer all the clickers Q's. Minimal work is required.
He is such a good professor. He drops 20% of your clicker scores so that if a student forgets their clicker, they will not be penalized. Take additional notes at lecture and you can print out the powerpoints. Pretty easy to get an A.
Did not study once for this class and got an A. Very easy professor
Nice professor, knows what he is talking about. But there are not quizes in between midterm and final so you wont know how he gives exams until the day of midterm. There are clicker questions, those help boost up the grade. Be sure to get at least a B in recitation to bring up test grades. To be honest I would take psych w/someone else.
Ehh, not horrible. Not too good either though. Had him for Motivation and Emotion. The material in the 2nd half of the semester was SO much better than the first half. Finished with a B when I was scared all semester of failing. Clicker questions help your final grade out a lot! He's kinda clueless sometimes but a nice guy. It is what you make it.
I had him for gen psych and got a C+. I took him for motivation and ended up with a 86, which was the lowest score to get an A. The final was easier than the midterm since he gave a study guide. He does drop the lowest 20% of clickers,2 extra credit points to you final grade if you do the extra credit. Lots of studying. Didn't read the book once!
I took Gen Psych with him and his class is pretty interesting. He has clicker questions that count whether you get them right or not, and as long as you pay attention during class, you should get at least 90% of them correct. Exams are fairly straightforward. Easy Peasy.
His class is easy enough. If you go to class and pay attention, you'll do fine on the clicker questions that count and on the exams. Pretty straightforward
If you put the effort forward this class is an easy A. There are clicker questions every class that count for 20% of your grade. I got a C a didn't pick up text book at all. If you read and take notes you should be fine.
He's a good professor, and he knows his stuff. Prior to the class, I had no interest in psychology, but in the end, he definitely brought interest into the class. Class attendance is mandatory since iclicker questions are 30# of your grade. The questions are okay, and the lowest 20% of them get dropped which helps. The exams are straightforward.
Fantastic professor. He gives you every chance to succeed, and does every effort to make his class interesting and fair. He made me want to switch to a psych major. Exams aren't too bad either, not are the clicker questions
Great professor because he actual forces you to LEARN the material. He made psychology classes that followed very simple for me because of how much I learned with him. You have to read for every class because there are clicker questions, but he drops a lot of them. Exams are difficult, but not impossible. Recommended for psychology majors.
I'm taking his online course. It is DIFFICULT! but he's a pretty reasonable guy. Bad thing is you think you're doing well when you're doing the online homework but when you get the exam, you realize that the course is way harder than you thought! The class average was a 60 something on the first exam. HW = 40% and exams = 60% of your grade.
Lectures can be somewhat boring but they are very important. Make sure you pay close attention to videos/examples he shows in class and that are in the book because the show up on exams. I took the honors section and 20% was clicker questions and 20% was the writing assignment. Make sure you do good on those! For exams READ the book and his slides.
If you take psych 101 take it with Brill, exams are very straight foreword and he tests on what he teaches and what is supposed to be read in the textbook. Clicker questions are sometimes annoying but he is very generous with the grade that he gives out in the end.
Took the Honors section. Really easy. Didn't require much effort at all.
He's a really nice man and wants you to do well/is willing to help out. The lectures are a bit dry, but it's Psych 101 so the material isn't going to be the most interesting. I got a C on the midterm and managed a B+ because the clickers & final assignment are very easy to get A's on. No real complaints about this class.
Brill is such a nice guy and really knows what he's talking about. Lectures can be boring at times and you get a lot of info in one sitting. Didn't do well on the midterm or final but managed to get an A in the class
Had him for the Honors section. Such a nice man, probably the nicest professor I had freshman year. He's a little boring, but he's a great lecturer, and you can tell he really likes what he does. Do your readings and pay attention in class and you should do fine on the clicker questions and exams. Got low 80's on the exams and still got an A.
2 exams. uses different type of clicker for in class questions. gives study guide. easy A as long as you show up. All slides online. Answers any questions clearly. Lectures aren't boring. He shows videos in the slides and he tries to be funny. The material is easy and he is a nice guy. He learns students names and start conversations. TAKE HIM!
Took the online class, was super easy. Just do well in the weekly online assignments and fill out the study guides he has posted online and you will be well prepared for the exams. Two exams non cumulative
Professor Brill was great. Really sweet man who is so genuinely interested in what he's teaching that it makes it easier to learn the material. If you put in the effort it pays off, he genuinely wants his students to succeed.
Lectures are super clear. bring you clicker to class and answer the questions, even the questions can sometimes be tricky, but it does not matter, because he will drop the lowest 20%. His lectures are kind of fun, and you can also read the textbook to get a good grade.
Brill is a really nice guy and he clearly loves psychology. His lectures can be on the boring side, but they are super clear. He drops the lowest 20% for the clicker questions. The exams are straightforward and there's only one easy paper--he tells you exactly what to fix before you submit it for grading. Read the textbook and you'll do fine.
Brill is a great lecturer. The in-class clicker questions were more helpful than annoying. The questions are fair, and it's easy to get them right if you read and pay attention during lecture. The daily assigned textbook readings aren't long. Since I took Honors, the class was small and he interacted a lot with students. Loved this class!
I'm fully convinced that all of his positive ratings on here are completely fake or posted my himself. He refused to accommodate students with learning disabilities, was unnecessarily rude and unhelpful when asked for help and blamed all of his personal mistakes on technology. He assigns clicker questions for every class are ridiculously specific.
This professor's ratings are extremely misleading. His exams are very difficult. He does provide a study guide, but the study guide is useless because there is an excessive amount of questions (over 200 for a 60 question exam) and majority of the questions f not all do not appear on the exam. He is not helpful. Take the course with someone else.
Homework is mandatory, long reading is required but generally you can get 90%ish on them (pretty tough, be careful). Otherwise, just do study guide the day before and show up to the exam. You will likely finish it in 10 mins. Incredibly easy professor and responds quickly online. I don't know how you can fail this class.
If I could really tell a student not to take someone, I WOULD REALLY ADVISE NO ONE TO TAKE HIM. I am no psychology genius but there is only 2 exams (midterm and final) and they are EXTREMELY hard. Attendance is mandatory because your clicker scores depend on it, but in order to do well on the clicker questions, you have to read. Don't take
Clearly intelligent and knowledgeable, he's a wonderful professor and a great guy. I had him for honors gen psych, and the class was 30 students instead of hundreds. VERY WORTH IT. Honors section is an easy A if you put in the effort (take notes, read the book). He's pretty friendly and approachable. I'd definitely take another class with him!
If you don't read the textbook, you will get a C.
His online course is extremely hard. The weekly homework assignment questions are pretty tough and require that you read slowly and think about the material for a fair amount of time. Huge curve since the midterm average was a 64. If you aren't prepared to do a lot of reading and keep up with work definitely don't take this class!
Gary brill is an awesome professor in comparison to other psych professors. As long as you do the readings before each lecture, pay attention in lecture, and do the study guide questions and study them very well, you will be in a good shape for the class. The study guide is a bit long but he gives it to the students several weeks before the exam
Overall great professor. Definitely willing to help you when you need it. Lectures can be a bit boring, but he tries to work in videos that help a bit. Clicker questions are pretty easy and beneficial (30%) of you grade. Just go to class and you get max point for those. Exams are tough but he curves at the end.
If you read the booK before lecture they extremely clear. Also read the book along with the notes on Sakai. His exams are very clear and easy only if you have read the book and filled out his study guide. Did not take him online.
Took the online class as a freshman. I didn't know what to expect but I was surprised at how straight forward his exams are. Take your time to read the book and everything will be easy from there, you might not even have to study much because you'll retain the information. Do the study guides and read and you can get an A. There's also a nice curve
Awesome course. I learned a lot, but was not overwhelmed. His lectures can be boring, especially if you are sleepy, but he posts his slides online. You have to read the textbook, and the readings can get long and tedious. He is an amazing professor and is super understanding . His exams are a bit confusing, but not impossible. Would recommend.
Really nice and funny professor. Doesn't give too many tests. You barely need the book. Just attend the lectures and you're fine.
Prof Brill is a very thorough and serious professor, so he expects you to know your stuff. He doesn't curve, and he uses clickers in every class. But you will walk away having learned a lot about psychology and neuroscience in general. The textbook is your best friend in this course. He seems like the best option for people willing to work hard.
This professor helps with students a lot. Very nice and easy going, willing to connect with students. However, he always indirectly expects you to follow his reasoning and adopt his beliefs, even though he might not outright say to. He seems to think his beliefs are widely held. Overall good professor, but aggravating personality.
Great professor, interesting class (I was in the Honors section). Definitely must read the textbook, and there are two short online papers that you can redo as much as you want - make sure you get a perfect score on those. If you put in a little effort, its a pretty easy A
Professor Brill is a nice guy. His lectures are pretty good but sometimes boring and long to sit through. I was in an Honors section of his Gen Psych class, and it was pretty small, but it was just him lecturing at us. He uses iClicker questions throughout the class, but he does drop the lowest 2 grades, so it shouldn't destroy your grade.
Overall, he is a good guy and he is very knowledge about the subject and likes to expand upon the information. The class is very easy going and work is straight forward, but it is very easy to fall asleep in class because on how he introduces the material and his monotone voice. Due to this grades suffer, but then he has to give a large curve.
Awesome!
Great professor (had him for honors gen psych). Read the textbook before lecture, it'll have you more than prepared for the clicker quizzes. Study his notes and the textbook for the exams and you'll be fine.
