The worst Professor EVER. NEVER take him if you want to learn anything. He doesn't even know how to solve the simplest accounting problem. I mean he cannot even do accounting-101 problem let alone 332. DO NOT TAKE HIM!Brings food to every class so students will like him and write positive reviews about him. Why would anyone hire him? DO NOT TAKE!!!
He is nice person. He went out of his way to help the students within his limitations. He needs more experience. However, I believed that with a few more classes he will be as good as any other professor at Mason.
Nice professor and this was his first course. He does express concern for students. Textbook use was mainly online.
Professor Brooks is a very nice guy, he is willing to help any students in any ways if you show that you care for the class and wanting to pass. He brings in a lot of chocolates a motivation for me to go to class every class.
Did not know what he was doing. Every time we went to class, we had questions and he did not know the answers to half of them. One exam, he claimed to make it "too easy" just because the class avg was really high, so takes it out on us by making exam two extremely difficult and putting Q's on it that we were not taught. A nice guy, but bad teacher.
The most helpful and patient professor I have ever had. He sincerely wants his students to succeed and is easy to reach via email if you have any questions. Best accounting professor, definitely take him.
Best ACCT professor at Mason, hands down! I learned a lot in his class. He is very nice, funny, and helpful if you do not understand something. The class is hard, but don't blame the professor for it. I took ACCT with other teachers before, and professor Brooks is one of the best teachers I've ever had! I highly recommend him!
Great professor. He really wants to help his students. Attendance is not mandatory, but you would be at a loss if you did not attended. Tests are hard, but that is because it is the same test throughout all ACCT331 sections. Highly recommend.
AVOID if you wanna learn something. Exams question wording are confusing and never explained during class.
Professor Brooks is extremely helpful. You can tell he is new, but he seeks to improve. Responds quickly to emails and answers questions, sometimes the next class.
I would recommend him for a higher level class, but not for a basic level class. Once you have become an accountant in the real world, it is tough to teach the foundations of accounting. His drive to educate is unsurpassed but he lacks clarity in his basic level teaching. Be ready to learn key concepts on your own and USE CONNECT!!
Extremely personable and approachable. Wants to help students more than other professors. Needs to be more prepared and not teach so much from powerpoint. Kept the class interesting and brought snacks to every class. You can tell he's a real world and practical guy, not one of those professors that try to screw you over.
This course is really hard, beware! Brooks tries to teach it as easy as possible. He's very helpful, stays late to help students. Very flexible for scheduling appts to see exams & go over what you didn't understand. You have to put the time into this course, very hard!! Highly recommend this professor!!
He curves a lot. Even though he is not allowed too. Take him! Best Professor ever! Saved me a hell lot of money repeating the course!
Best professor ever. He is approachable, helpful and does his best for you to grasp and pass the class. Other professors just want you to fail period.
The class was so hard but he tried to make it easier. He really cares about students. TAKE HIM. THE NICEST PROFESSOR EVERY.
VERY VERY NICE PROFESSOR -- cares about student and try to help ... but the class is HARD
Not an easy subject! Professor Brooks lays it all out there and makes himself more than available to help his students! He is a real world practical guy and understands not all of us are accounting majors. Exam 1 is basically a review of ACCT 203, so its pretty easy. Exam 2 and 3 were much more difficult. He is probably the best to take it with.
VERY NICE PROFESSOR!! He cares about his students. Love him.
I have taken him for both intermediate accounting classes, it is hard no matter who you take but he does deeply care for his students. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!
Highly recommend him, he is very nice and willing to help his students but the material is hard so you need to put some effort in it.
Professor Brooks is a very nice guy, however, students have to learn on their own. Accounting is a very hard subject but he should teach instead of reading from ppts. All he does is read and never explains how it gets done. half of the class dropped after the first exam and average grade on the first exam was 69% second exam 69.2% Do not take him.
Professor Brooks is the nicest processor in the acct department. He goes extra miles to help students succeed in his class. However, class is very hard and exams are very tricky. Must study a week in advanced for exam. Very tough exams. But he is great!
He knows the subject but no willing to teach maybe he doesnt like to teach. He is the worst lecturer. i did learn nothing from him. he says smthng is not gonna be on the exam bomb 18 pts problem, he only appoligies. Because he is not teaching he tries to help homeworks, extend the assignment due date etc. Don't waste your time, money. Bstudent
Professor Brooks is very nice and is always ready to help, but his lectures are not very helpful. He goes over the slides, but explains so briefly that you don't even have time to think. You have to learn on your own or request office hours.
Acct 301 is a very hard subject. Must study at least 30 hours prior to exams. Exams are hard and tricky. It's like he uses another different language when he writes them. However, if you look for him for help, he will go the extra mile to help. I am an accounting exam and very happy I took him. He is a very nice professor.
Prof Brooks is one of the best acct professors at GMU. For those with bad reviews, probably did not try hard enough. I studied over 30 hrs for each exam. Exams are hard no matter who you take it with. One thing everyone should know is that GMU Acct professors are not allowed to pick their style of teaching, the depart. does. cheatin isn't allowed
Professor Brooks is so nice. I loved the way he treats his students!!! He's there for you most of the time and will be willing to help you anytime. 331 is just intimidating because of overloaded information you have to learn, but overall, the class wasn't THAT bad. Make sure you study the exam a week ahead.
This class is really tough. However Professor Brooks did a great job with answering questions and preparing the class for the exams. The exams are created by a singular overseeing course-coordinator. All sections the exam at once. Go to class and participate in class discussion. Do your homework.
If you are accounting Major, do not take him. You will not pass prof. Brooks' test no matter what. some students talk about his personality which is irrelevant for the course. His teaching style is poor and his exam is tough.
His exams are very tricky, and he knows it. However, he will try to help the class as much as he can without getting in trouble. Attendance to reviews before exams are crucial. He is a very nice person, go to his office hours and form a relationship. If he recognizes your name it will be a great help when posting your grades to patrioy web.
He cares for students but exams are tough with avgs around 70%. Study in a good group. Don't procrastinate. Do hw in advance. Ask questions and use virtualin-person office hours as much as possible. Fast paced. Read test questions carefully. He takes attendance to help curve at the very end. Don't buy the hardcopy book (includes e-text on Connect)
Great professor! Professor Brooks is very encouraging and he truly cares about his students--He will do anything to help his students succeed. Test are tough but A's are possible if you work hard. Take him! He curves exams too
He is the NICEST prof. @ Mason. ACC301 is hard! His test are hard. U have to STUDY HARD! But Prof. Brooks will help you as much as he can. He does virtual hours office. He's there for you! Pretty much at any time.! My advice? Talk to him, ask him questions! Attendance matters, it will help you.
He is a great person, but his class was terrible. He was never prepared for class and was late more than once. I didn't learn anything from his class the entire semester. He likes to make student feel that the class is very hard and that he's very serious about assignments, but he's not. If you just want to pass this class, don't take him.
Overall a good teacher, just show up for class and participate and you will pass. Accounting is hard so be prepared to study.
This class is not easy! But professor Brooks is extremely helpful. His lectures are very clear and he gives a ton of resources to practice with. He is really good at responding to emails and having flexible office hour times. If you want to understand the course take Brooks!
Professor Brooks makes a 3 hour lecture bearable, he is very funny! He is helpful and is available through email/phone. Since there is a lot of material that needs to be covered, it is best to review chapters prior to class to follow lectures. Also, sit in the front closest to the board, he writes small!
Accounting is a boring subject. Professor Brooks does his best to make it interesting. 332 was the best grade I had gotten in post 301 courses because of the great teaching. It's a hard course, especially when you are a working parent. With Professor Brooks, it's doable.
Prof. Brooks is really nice! He'll do anything to help you understand the material. He offers virtual hour office and a review class before each exam. His tests are hard but gives you tons of practice (connect & MCQ online). Practice a lot and ask a lot of questions. Attendance matters. It is easier if you take Acct 203 right before this class. .
Brooks is the best! He is so nice and always willing to help. He isn't the best at emailing, but he extends his office hours when needed. Overall the class is tough. Study hard and ask a ton of questions.
Really great professor. He is a really cool guy, his lectures are not boring and he makes some jokes. The exams are hard, but if you study and go to the review sessions you will be good.
The absolute best accounting professor I have ever had at Mason. I'm currently finishing up my degree, and I wish I took Brooks for more than just this class. He tells you pretty much exactly what is going to be on every exam and he grades easy. The only bad thing is that his class was at 8:30am, but besides that best professor ever.
Absolute best accounting professor. I have taken him for Acct 301 and made sure to get him for 332. Very approachable, and does the problems with you so that you understand. Offers office hours whenever needed both virtual and in person. Hands down the professor to consider.
He is really nice professor; in fact the best choice in comparison to others teaching the same course. He understands the students and tries to help them as much as possible either virtually or physically in his office. His lectures are not the best but still very good so little effort from the side of the student is also needed.
Prof Brooks is understanding, willing to work with you, and makes sure you understand the concept. Accounting is not a simple subject and he tries to make it easier for students. Tells many dad jokes so he is also entertaining. I highly recommend taking him. Attendance, homework, and 4 exams. Also gives many chances for extra credit!! :)
Best professor in GMU's Accounting Department. He works hard to give his students the best grades possible, in arguably one of the hardest classes in the Accounting department. People knock him down for being a tough grader, but the class is structured in a way where ALL professors grade a single problem for your exams. Work hard and listen to him!
I had different professor in GMU. Mr. Brooks is one of the bests. Acc 332 is a really hard class. He tries hard and explain in details, records video lectures and he does a lot for students to understand and pass the class. He respects everybody. LISTEN to his tips for exam; extra helpful. Highly recommended.
He's a very good professor, going to class helps a lot even though attendance isn't graded. Lectures help review material that will be on the exams and homework. Gives reasonable time to complete assignments and his exam review sessions were also helpful. This class is however very difficult, especially for non-business majors.
The course itself is very hard but Professor Brooks is an extremely nice, funny & caring gentleman. He's very lenient when grading and is the best Acct 331/332 professor. Make sure you do well on the first two exams because the final is quite difficult. Also there are 3 quizzes, connect assignments for each chapter and a research paper to write.
This professor tries to make the class entertaining with his humor which is great. Took this class during the Summer. Class is just him reading off the power point which has many slides. Pay extra attention to his exam tips they are helpful to break it down a bit. Class requires a lot of studying to do well. Graded on HW and exams only.
Nice guy who tries to tell a joke every 15 seconds. The key point here is - he curves! Heavily! Probably the nicest professor in the icy indifferent accounting department. At least he doesn't avoid talking to you or escape from the classroom after class, which is pretty much every single accounting professor.
By far the best accounting professor I've ever had. You can tell he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Definitely come to class and pay attention to things he says to study, it will help you on the exams. The book isn't necessary, just look over the powerpoints and connect homework.
I am really glad I took this class online with him. I had to take this class for my major and I ended up with an 89 and he curved it to an A. You have to do a lot of work in this class either way so just take it with him. Chegg is your best friend.
Professor Brooks is a great professor! He understands that the material is difficult for most students and takes time to reexplain things. I would take him for this course again over any other professor. The entire accounting department at Mason is evil, but Brooks is one of the good guys :)
Very hard class due to the nature of the material but Brooks is the best prof for 332!! He grades leniently and curves as well! 3 exams, 3 quizzes, case study and connect hw. He truly cares about his students and is also hilarious which makes the class bearable.
First accounting class I've ever taken and got an A. Brooks is a decent professor who knows his stuff but my class was pretty big and he only interacted with the few students in front of him. Uses WILEYPLUS (expensive) but the slides were super helpful. Homework was tedious but very similar to the quizzes/exams
Prof Brooks is an amazing teacher. This is a hard class, but he makes it entertaining with some "Dad" jokes. He loves to help you out, he gives you great study guides to prepare for the exams. Accounting is not an easy subject to comprehend, so you must put in time and effort outside of class to understand the concepts.
He is a very nice professor but the class is extremely disorganized. The online textbook assignments which are about 90% of the class make it seem like you are taking an online course, as you do not really learn much in the lectures. Aside from the jokes he usually says in class, which get old after a while, he is not that good of a professor.
The class relies heavily on a Connect online textbook which every single of your assignments is on. He is not really responsive to emails as much and the online textbook work gets very tedious. It takes a few hours for the online work to completed. I wouldn't suggest taking the course if it uses Connect.
He has good intentions but his class is so disorganized I cried. The due dates will always catch you be surprise and he uses this bad online textbook for all of our work.
Class solely revolves around an online textbook that has all your homework in it. Pretty much a glorified online course. He tells jokes too but after a while they get old. The class is poorly structured and is completely disorganized which causes stress amongst all the students.
He was solid. Nice and occasionally lenient professor but the material is just naturally hard. He relies on WILEYPLUS to teach the material which both a good and bad thing. Plan your time and assignments ahead of time. He really isn't that bad if you're good at self teaching.
This class is literally an online course with a lecture portion. I have no idea why this course is even a requirement for IT majors. It has nothing to do with anything IT related. The professor tries to entertain the class with his dad jokes which just further aggravates students who are already stressed out about the course.
His course uses a textbook that has caused over 90% of students to fail the first and second exams. The professor's lectures have made plenty of students fall asleep, especially during the 3 hour sections. He is ok to work with but I wish I could walk up to him and tell him to cut it out with the jokes. We are stressed. This is not funny.
He may be funny from time to time but his class structure depends on a bad online textbook that he entrusts to teach us course material. Extremely bad course, extremely boring professor makes the class one of the worst experiences I've had at Mason.
lectures consist of him reading the slides given by the online textbook and writing the same chicken scratch on the board each week. Inconsistent information on where to study for the exams, which explains why students across all sections failed both exams. you'd expect an accounting class for mostly IT majors to be less toxic. no study guides btw.
The connect homework teaches you rather than the professor. He's very passive aggressive with his email responses and in-class comments. Homework and mid-term were easy, but the final was a ridiculous 2-hour, take home exam with 43 questions that ALL required math. I bombed the final because there was not enough time to do every question.
He's got a lot of corny puns and he tries his best, but moving to online amid the COVID-19 pandemic has caused him to be pretty disorganized over online assignments that he was doing right before this mess. I figure he will be better when classes return to normal in the coming semesters. He's a solid professor overall that is willing to help you.
During covid; The course is base on Connect and the lectures go over what you had already read on your own so homework is crucial. Hes very caring and is willing to take the time to set up office hours often to help students out. Grades are based on accuracy but there are multiple extra credit options. Material itself is hard.
Dont need to attend, everything is based off online assignments, the teacher does 0 work. Everything is copy and paste on his end, even his lectures. Boring ass voice, boring ass person. Gmu follows capitalism with this course, Copy and paste class with no resources to actually teach , its just an online software that enslaves you to the semest
Brooks was okay at best. He doesn't make this boring course more exciting, but he does try his best to help you because he does want you to pass. It helps to see the TA and ask questions and review the HW with him. If you understand the HW and concepts you might do better on the exams. The exams are worth a lot btw so study.
Homework is through connect and you learn more through the connect videos than live lectures. HW is 1/3 of the grade and exams are the rest, no extra credit.
I stopped attending because the Professor reads off the slides. Make sure you understand connect assignments as they will help you for the exams. There is this function where you can check your work before submitting which is a life saver. Explanations are a dime if you get an correct or incorrect. I passed this class because of Connect!
His classes are 1x week and all of them are very useless since everything is online. The second exam had 22 questions but was worth 250 points, just saying. Make sure you dont miss a deadline on my connect bc once you miss he cant reverse it
He is a great professor I'm usually quiet in class but you can tell that he cares about each one of his student. he gives one extra credit opportunity which is 16 points.
everything is online even though there is in-person lectures. the online hw is not bad and he goes over them in class. even though the lectures seems long and theres a lot to learn, the professor is a good guy and i really appreciate him. i dont blame him for the work bc its the course but he is a good teacher.
ACC303 - I think he was new or something, he was horrible. He made dad jokes and that was the only good thing he did. The homework had nothing to do with the tests and I mean nothing. The review he did the class before was the only thing that made sense. I thought it was the acct department, apparently he was just terrible!
He's okay as a professor; nice and caring as person. His lectures are a go a bit fast. Take this class ASAP after ACT203 since most of 303 is review from that class. Willing to help students but be prepared to do a lot of self-studying. If you did poorly in 203 then I'd avoid him.
Prof. Brooks is really good and cares about students passing. During lectures he tells dad jokes, which actually help with remembering the material and make lectures less boring. For exams, he gives you the topics and examples, so practicing them should prepare you well. If you need help, make use of his office hours. Overall, I enjoyed his class.
Pretty chill professor, cracks a lot of jokes in class. If you have basic accounting knowledge, this class isn't that bad. Not too much homework. He also provides extra practice questions before each exam. Lectures are boring but he does go thru some homework questions which was nice. Would recommend if you have to take this class.
Professor Gary truly cares about his students. His class was difficult for me but he made topics easy to remember with jokes. He made lectures fairly entertaining which is hard for a late class. I would take this class just to have him as a professor.
He doesn't offer an exact study guide but he's clear on what will most likely be on exams. The review exams (taken before actual exams) are extremely beneficial for study and I really recommend taking/studying them to get at least a decent grade on the actual exams. He cracks a lot of dad jokes but I actually appreciated him lightening the mood!
I had Prof. Brooks for MBUS 300 and he was a great sport. He cracked jokes in the class to make the lectures enjoyable and in case you had difficulty understanding a topic he was willing to go the extra mile to help you. Over all, I would love to retake him!
the professor was amazing but this class is so hard omg.
The best way to do good in this course is by learning the material yourself. Syllabus says 10 hours a week and it's not joking. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, you will do so much better if you learn on your own and practice. Do the practice tests before every exam. Professor is kind, i love his jokes
The class wasn't too bad. As long as you do the homework, understand the topics from each section, and review the slides/accounting problems then you should be fine. I also enjoyed how funny this professor was in his lectures. It made the class less boring.
