First of all I can't believe Prof. Brouhard is not on the list yet. He is relatively new to teaching and incredibly enthusiastic about the his material, which gets the students interested as well. Actin and Microtubules have never seemed so fascinating before he came along. Biology profs don't get much better than him. Recommended!
Probably the best prof in the section. Lectures are informative and enjoyable.
His approach to teaching the material is really refreshing--you always have a sense of where you're going and of how the processes he's describing fit into the bigger picture. His enthusiasm for the topic is catching, especially when he talks about his own research. Lectures do involve a lot of writing though; there is almost no text on his slides.
Clear & makes classes fun. All you need to know is on its slides. My recommendation would be to read the textbook while you read the powerpoint notes. Exam questions were random, but straightforward.
So freaking passionate about material I could NOT sleep if I tried. Wore amazing bowties, made everything comprehensible beyond belief, straighforward questions on relevant material in exams, funny stories and analogies. Lots of writing in class, but worth it. Made me love biology a million times more. TAKE HIM.
Yeah he was really good.
I love this prof. He actually makes biology interesting. I usually dread this class but I find that time actually passes pretty quickly when he's teaching it
Incredible. Made me look forward to attending biol 201 class, a mandatory course that I rather detest. Funny, emphasizes & reiterates the keypoints, and LOVE them bowties!
amazing, really helpful about everything, and explains things very well and funny too - but doesn't try to hard :0)
Best bio prof I've ever had! Makes class so interesting that missing a class feels like a bummer. His explanations of concepts really help you understand how they work in the cell and yet always keeps the big picture of things clear so you understand WHY they work that way. Looooove him!
Without a doubt, one of the best professors at McGill.
Definitely the best lecturer I've ever had. He's the nicest person and explains things so wonderfully.
Fantastic Prof. Incredibly enthusiastic about the topics, and really goes out of his way to explain complicated concepts
Brouhard is the most incredible teacher I have ever had at McGill or at any other school. He makes classes so much fun to attend, and really makes the material interesting. He also puts jokes into the material and really understands his students. I hope that he reads this so that he will know how incredible he is!! Also, his bowties are ADORABLE.
Outstanding prof in just about every way. Easily one of the best I've ever had. Explains concepts super clearly and really makes things relatable to his students. He has an amazing sense of humour and his lectures are full of jokes. You'll learn so much and have a ton of fun at the same time. WARNING: he might make you want to go into research!
Absolutely the best professor I've ever had in science, maybe even ever! He's extremely passionate about his material and keeps the class interested. The subjects he teaches would be boring taught by anyone else but he makes you really care!
Honestly the best professor I've ever had. An amazing teacher, funny, charming. Doesn't get better than that.
Best professor so far. Incredibly enthusiastic and engaging. It would be difficult to not pay attention in his classes. Exam questions were challenging but fair. Slides are very well put together and lectures are clearly fine tuned. He's awesome!
Best biology professor I've had!
The best bio prof I have had by far and probably one of my favourite profs overall! His lectures were enjoyable and easy to follow along with!
Amazing prof and VERY VERY cute!! In the cute cute way.
Simply the best. He made Cell biology, a topic that bores 99% of students, very interesting and so easy! They should this man and make him teach EVERYTHING!!!!
Amazing prof. His lectures were engaging and interesting– he made me actually *want* to learn! Very clear about what he expected, but gave enough extra info to give context and make the material interesting enough to stick. It's not that his questions were easy, but he made it surprisingly easy to learn.
I got an average mark in the class but only because of my mark on Brown's midterm. Brouhard is by far the best prof that I've had at McGill. He really cares about his students and class attendance, and tries hard to make dense material easy to follow. At the end of the semester, half the reason I came to class was just out of respect for this guy.
I can confidently say that he is the best prof I've had at McGill so far. He is amazing at teaching. Charming, Funny, HANDSOME with his cute lil bow tie. He needs to teach other profs how to teach well like him. I would totes marry him. His exam questions are very very fair & tries his best to help out his students. Overall, freakin amazing prof.
The material was presented in a clear and concise manner. Classes were always entertaining. He is really cute with his unique bow ties. Be aware that while Brown's questions were straight up memorizing (all the material is on the slides), his questions were a bit more conceptual.
Probably the best professor I've ever had, but he went out of his way to make the final exam impossible. Doesn't matter how much time you studied or how well you knew the material, its just the type of questions you can't answer. Its a great class if you don't care about your GPA.
By far the best prof I ever had! Crystal clear explanations, well-paced lectures, and extremely helpful. Makes every topic interesting, and is just a genuinely amazing person. The final exam had type b questions ("choose all that apply" and "select the best answer") which made it quite difficult, but it really tested if you knew the material or not
Fantastic teacher overall. Charismatic, funny and engaging - I never thought I would enjoy Cell Biology, but I loved going to his lectures. No secret, his exam is hard, he'll tell you that straight up on day one. But if you study, you can definitely still do really well. Make sure to understand the material, not just memorize, and you'll do great.
Awesome teacher, but the final exam was unfair. Don't go all-out studying for it because thats what I did and it wasn't worth it.
Was really looking forward to leaving an awesome review but I can't after that final exam. Studied so much for it and understood the material perfectly but the questions were impossible. Brown's section was straight-forward. I recommend taking the S/U option or this will be a GPA killer.
Professor Brouhard is what a biology teacher should be. Enthusiastic, extremely approachable, and very knowledgeable. Instead of trying to test for pure memorization (as Professor Brown did), he tested for understanding of the concepts (anyone who says the final was unfair is angry because he actually tested understanding and not just memorization)
good class / impossible final / do not recommend
great teacher but a very unfair final. i know he asks about concepts but half of the questions were from research papers (anything can happen) so you're never sure about your answer.and too many "all that apply" its just confusing! GREAT teacher! but Gary, be nicer next time! I got 100 on midterm and this final was brutal. thats not fair!
Horrible final!!! C'mon! Don't bother with this class its not worth it. BIOC is a better option.
theres a reason he asks for the course evaluations before the final exam. you think he is a great prof by the way he teaches the class but don't be fooled the final is impossible.
Greg Brown's section of the course has harder material with fair questions. Prof Brouhard's section has easier material with impossible questions. No textbook needed, fair midterm, tricky quizzes, IMPOSSIBLE final. Its also worth 65% so... can u not
Gary is an excellent professor. The material becomes much clear when he explains it, and the classes are very interesting. However, the final was HORRIBLE! Definitely the WORST!! Questions were impossible, even if you studied A LOT and understood EVERYTHING.
The final was HORRIBLE. Questions were IMPOSSIBLE. Even if Gary is an excellent prof, his exam was beyond our knowledge... AVOID IF YOU CAN!!!
I don't usually write these, but I'm so disappointed. There's nothing worse than feeling SO prepared for an exam, only to be horrified by 45 crazy questions. No one can deny how great he is at teaching, but the questions he made on the final were uncalled for and unfair. He seriously overestimated how much we could take away from his explanations.
I loved his classes, and the way he presented the material. Definetly an excellent professor, super clear and very insteresting lectures. I studied EVERYTHING and knew every detail, but the final was simply NOT At our level. Questions were impossible. So to take this class, think that it's probably going to lower your GPA
Okay, Gary is an Awesome teacher. His classes were always so interesting, clear and easy to understand. Yes, the final was REALLY hard! There isn't a lot of material to memorize. But if you Only "memorized" you will get like ..4/45. But seriously, if you actually "understood" the concepts, you will get out of the exam as a smarter person.
Does NOT prepare you for final.
Just because he is a good teacher doesn't mean he is good at making exams! Avoid this class at all costs if you care about your grades!!
They tried some new type of final exam format this year and it was horrible. Like everyone said, take the biochemistry option instead of this class.
Gary is an amazing prof, extremely organized, clear, and helpful. His lectures are both interesting and entertaining - we gave him a standing ovation at the end of the semester! He also gave us a great, detailed study guide for the final. Im happy I took this class!
Dr. Brouhard just really wanted to promote understanding rather than memorization. Most courses in science require brute memorizing of tiny details but this one was not.
He's a champ ! Ignore the other comments. Hard final, but he'll be lenient with grading. Cradles you like a baby and makes you a man.
Gary is the man!!! His lectures were amazing. The final was extremely difficult, but he ended up raising the average to 74 (by giving points to everyone for certain questions, giving part marks to the "select all questions", etc.). He wants to make you think, and he really wants everyone to do well!
Would not recommend.
Gary is a total legend on the McGill campus with his bow ties. Hands down one of the best TEACHERS I have ever had. He strives for you to understand and he is willing to help you to facilitate that. Yes, the final is hard, as is every fricken final at McGill. Study and you'll be fine. Highly recommend, this is a prof you'll remember.
Absolutely amazing teacher. With Gary's explanations you can sit in class and feel the material diffuse into you. I even remember some of the scientist stories he tells (not examinable)...What, impossible final? The more comprehension-based questions can leave your brain in knots, but seriously, the average was B like any other course!
This professor is without question outstanding and the best professor I have ever had at McGill. His teaching is clear, grading is fair, and he goes over and above to portray an enthusiasm for discovery and research. This course is a lot of work, but the amount you learn afterwards is worth it. Discussions in class are enlightening.
Gary is without a doubt the best professor I've had at McGill. His lectures are interesting, clear, and he has this charisma that makes you want to keep coming to class. He's extremely helpful in preparing you for the exam (which was tough, but definitely fair) and gives a complete list of topics that are testable. Keep it up, Gary!
Do not take this professor. Had an A going into the final, but it's WAY beyond the 200 level, essentially all linked to obscure experiments. Ended up with an A- BARELY, having felt confident about the objective material. This "should have been a fair course" almost was a GPA killer, don't let it happen to you. Try to take Biochem instead.
Take this course with Prof. Brouhard for sure! He's one of the best professors I've had at McGill and teaches you exactly what you need to know. His section on the exam is difficult but very fair and actually easy to do well in if you listen to what he emphasizes in class and the approach he takes with certain materials.
He's the only prof in two years of university that made me want to go to class out of pure respect and interest in his teaching. I don't understand why there are ratings with A- grades, that say "GPA killer". Pre-med should not get in the way of wanting to take an exceptional course, with an amazing professor.
Lectures are very interesting, explanations are very clear, but the final was difficult. I think if you knew the material really well, the final wouldn't feel as hard...but otherwise, Brouhard was a pretty good lecturer & prof.
This prof was amazing at explaining and literally demonstrating concepts in class. If you attended class and took the quizzes seriously you know what to expect for the exam.
Amazingly clear. He gave out very precise limits for the final. His questions are unconventional, but with a bit of thinking theyre very reasonable. The only tough part of the course was Brown's section, hes a nightmare.
This guy loves what he's talking about, Glad there's someone out there as passionate and clear as him
AWESOME PROF! He is now my model!
I would say everyone I know likes him and his personality, great lecturer. Test isn't too easy, but class not only taught by him.
Funny, very clear and demonstrates concepts quite well - clearly passionate about what he does and made me really appreciate material that isn't very easy. Made a mandatory bio class fun to learn! Class itself is pretty tough but great prof overall
Amazing professor, absolutely great teaching style. Material is quite interesting and he really makes difficult concepts like myosin walking easier to understand. The final is very difficult, make sure you know concepts and what would happen if something goes wrong in the pathways.
Gary is better than any BIOL 200 prof but it's still a biology class and all those who lack the ability to memorise are in for a tough ride. Prof. Brouhard is a nice guy and his stuff is interesting. It is not the material but rather the volume there of that makes this a hard course.
Absolutely love this man. I found what would've otherwise been difficult material straightforward because of his capability as an instructor. As everyone has said so far, the final is tough, but it was 100% fair and I ended up doing better on it than the midterm. Would highly recommend this class!
Brouhard is amazing. He explains everything in a way that makes it easy to understand, and he's funny - going to class is definitely worth it here. One of the few profs who seems to really care about the students' performance. It's still a tough class, though. You have to be good at rote memorisation and all-MCQ exams.
Amazing prof. I'm not interested in either cell biology or metabolism at all, but he actually managed to make learning about them enjoyable. That being said, there is a lot of material and it can be difficult, so remember to actually put in the work, too.
His quizzes might be difficult, but it is the best preparation for the exams-the exams seem like a breeze once you get to do it. Plus, a two-sided cheat sheet for the exams! The content can be difficult sometimes, as some topics are inherently a bit difficult/boring while others are more enticing. Pro Tip: rewatch the videos, rewrite the notes!
I don't know how but my review got deleted Biggest regret in my undergrad ( U3 currently) was taking this course He says he wants : an A to mean something .Well, We want also our gpa to mean something
Amazing lecturer, he makes his classes super interesting and fun with lots of cool analogies that make the material much more easier to grasp. I'm not usually a biology fan but I truly enjoyed this!Quizzes: difficult, but for exams we can bring cheat sheets, so this (unlike the horrifying BIOL200) class is about understanding which I found great!
Brouhard makes his lectures fun. He goes at a fast pace, but everything is very interesting, well-explained, and organized. He gives a study guide that lists everything that should be studied for the midterms/final. His tests and quizzes are hard, since the questions he asks are wordy and often split hairs
After BIOL 201 I have two loves, microtubules and Gary BROUHARD.
Gary is amazing!!! He is super awkward but in the absolute best way possible and we all love him 3 His quizzes suck, his lectures rock. Gary for life.
The dude talks about random stuff then speeds up the lecture content you find yourself later on incapable of answering his quizzes
He is amazing! Great diagrams. Great explanations. Wonderful analogies. Goes above and beyond the necessities to teach our class. Made it VERY interesting.
Dr. Brouhard is able to present course material in a clear, concise and passionate manner, engaging the students and inspiring us to want to learn more about cellular metabolism, and cellular biology in general.
This man is truly an outstanding professor who genuinely cares about making the classes fun and engaging the students. Quizzes are challenging and the tests tough, though he allows cheat sheets for the midterms and finals. Make sure to go to the final 'surprise' lecture, what he says there is quite incredible. Fantastic is all I can say.
Gary's the best.
Best Prof at McGill!
Lectures are seriously entertaining with lots of stories and jokes. Cheatsheets on the exams are a dream if you hate memorizing like me.
Professor Brouhard is such a cool guy. He's funny and relates to the generation he's teaching as well as he can (in a cute dorky way). But beware, although he presents the material like no other can, HIS MIDTERMS ARE IMPOSSIBLE. You are allowed a memory aid but trust me when i say this, IT DOESNT HELP. But still a good choice as a prof. Study hard
incredible prof! goes out of his way to answer questions after class and at review sessions. i'm going to miss this class next semester.
Literally the best prof I would ever have in my life; save me from switching out of biology after torture from RR:((( . The material is not difficult at all and we are allowed cheat sheet, I personally loves his exam; it test whether you can come up with an answer that is not given in lecture but can be deduced with what we have learned by yourself
Gary might be one of the best teachers I've had. He's inspirational in a way that makes the course extremely interesting even if you thought you had little interest in the material. His quizzes are way too hard, but I found the midterms manageable. Cheat sheets were a study tool more than anything. I'll dearly miss his contagious love for science.
After BIOL 201, I have two new loves: Gary Brouhard and microtubules. He is so engaging and just so wholesome (I would literally marry him lol). But seriously, TAKE HIS CLASS! It will CHANGE you (at the cost of you possibly falling in love with him) :)
Prof Brouhard made biology (that I usually find boring/difficult) to be not boring and very understandable. He starts with the basics so everybody understands what's going on, and makes it clear what he's looking for. He makes jokes in class to keep us all entertained and has a generous grading policy for the overall grade (ex: 74.36 -- 75)
Amazing prof is an understatement. By far one of my favorite profs at McGill. He doesn't overload us with information which is awesome. He truly cares about what he is teaching.
Very good professor. He makes lectures interesting. His exams are very hard with very few questions. So screwing a single question up cost big.
One of the best profs at McGill. He is genuinely interested in the topics he teaches and approaches Biology in a very different way that most profs. You are allowed cheat sheets on all his exams but this being said, they are not easy and involve understanding as opposed to memorization (answers will not be on your cheat sheet).
Prof. Brouhard presents biology from a unique perspective and looks proteins in the cell as machines (engineering-esque). His exams are quite difficult and require application of core concepts covered (you have to think outside of the box).
Hes a great lecturer but doesnt know how to make exams and seemed to get extremely disorganized and unresponsive to emails as the semester progressed. I would highly recommend BIOC 212 over this class as you get to learn about more things in a greater detail, and your mark will be more representative of the amount of work you put into the class.
While I didn't do as well as I could have in this class due to personal issues, Gary Brouhard really wants all his students to succeed. His lectures are well organized and he makes what he is teaching interesting and fun (which is hard to do in a Biology lecture.)
Bio 201 wasn't my best grade at McGill, and God knows how I would've done if someone other than Gary was lecturing. Within 5 mins, you realise how much he loves his work. Even though entry-level molecular bio is hardly engaging stuff, he somehow makes you love it too. It's a grind, but Gary will pull you through - kicking & screaming, if need be.
Literally the SWEETEST BIOL prof at McGill - loves teaching and his students. Super clear, rough exams but you won't regret taking this class with him because he's the best!
TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS! He was the best prof I've had so far and I can't imagine ever having a prof like him again. Be ready to work in his class! BUT it'll be more than worth it. Go to his lectures! Study hard for the midterms and finals! Do everything Gary says cause he's the best. Hardest but best class I've ever taken and I'm going to miss it.
Fairly good lecturer. He loves his work and explains concepts in detail instead of declaring what to memorize. He is not good at making quiz/exam questions though. It is difficult to understand what he means in a question and even if you know the correct answer to the question, you don't get any point if you don't write the very "keyword" he wants.
super motivated prof, really cares about what he teaches and making sure you that you understand the core concepts. his enthusiasm for the material brings out your passion for science. class is super fun because of him!
Arguably the best prof in the Science Faculty, if not in McGill. Period.
Gives the best lectures. Gary has a way of making a boring subject very interesting, with his constant enthusiasm.
My fave McGill prof + class thus far. Gary made topics I found tedious before (I took this course on recommendation from a past student) suddenly fascinating, and he incorporates past and current research into his lectures in a way that helps you to truly see the importance of what you're learning. A challenging class, but DEFINITELY worthwhile.
Such a pleasure to attend lectures. Explains the material very well while also adding information on real world applications/procedures. Tests are more conceptual & application involved instead of direct memorization.
Gary is definitely the best prof I've ever had. He makes difficult and boring concepts so much more easier. I normally hate cell biology and he made me looking forward to his lectures. The material can be overwhelming sometimes, but you can have cheat sheets during the exams, so no memorization is needed, only understanding. Exams are fair.
Great man
Very inspiring! He loves what he teaches. Really enjoyed his lectures and his perspective towards science. Hope we had more professors like him in the academia.
Professor Brouhard and his class is literally the only reason that I come to school instead of lying on my bed and listening to lecture recordings. His classes are so engaging and not memorization-heavy. He makes sure that the students really understand the concepts, not just memorizing them. He's just AMAZING!!!
Just outstanding. Legendary. Don't take bioc212 if you have the choice of this course. Last class non-stop clapping for minutes doesn't happen to any prof. He makes you gain a new perspective, what would be logical if you were inside a cell? Take it and if you let it, it'll change your life. THAT GOOD.
Worst class I have ever taken. Never have I ever been more confused in my life as I was in this class. Notes are useless consisting of pictures that have no use whatsoever. Midterms are based on "think like a scientist" or fail. Makes complex topics even more complex than they need to be. Cares more about winning the Nobel Prize than teaching.
I have never been so engaged by a class in my life.
He's so passionate and interesting when he gives his lectures, I would def want him to teach other courses! He makes bio fun to learn and he doesn't base his exams on memorization.
Honestly Professor Brouhard can take the crown for best prof at McGill for me so far! Yeah his exams require to think outside the box a bit, but is memorizing and answering trivial questions really useful? Not really considering all your other classes do the same. BLESS U BROUHARD
So funny, great anecdotes and makes material much easier to get through! Gary is truly the best. Especially w/ the pandemic, he did us a solid and made bonus points available. Tests are thinking based which can be tricky, but he's fair. He removed a test question that was too hard recognizing that if no one could get it the problem was the question
Mr Brouhard appears to be a nice teacher during his lectures but will destroy you with his questions that go too much in depth and that expect you to be a post grad researcher. Does not care about the state of his students during a global pandemic.
Passionate and funny lecturer but tough grader
He is funny but is also ruining everyones GPA
This prof is so good that you'll be legitimately sad when the course ends even if the exams absolutely bodied you - and they will. Yes his tests are hard but, they aren't hard for no reason. All of the questions are reasonable and really require you to think about the material on a deeper level which I'd say is what all courses should be doing.
Probably the best prof you will have in your time at McGill. People who don't like him or say this course is "too hard" are trying to memorize without understanding. If you really understand the concepts, you can answer each of his 12 midterm questions in about 5 sentences each, sometimes less. I very strongly recommend him. You will learn a lot.
its a bit of a mixed feeling- Hes a good prof with good bants but then his test questions the funniest. I mean its a hard course (that had to be curved up like crazy this year) so its kind of not rewarding to get a 50% on a midterm although it may just end up as a 70-75 at the end of the semester...
Please, please go out of your way to take his class. He somehow managed to create the strongest sense of community in an online class, I can't imagine how great he must be in person. Funny, genuinely cares about his students and their wellbeing, and really teaches you to think in a way you never have before. Incredible! Take the class!
He tries to be charming, but at the end of the day, he will intentionally try to screw you over with questions. Consistently writes difficult exams, yet always says that everyone will 'do better' in the next assessment. There shouldn't be a need to curve the class -- 201 is not an engineering course. Invariably worse than 200.
Prof. Brouhard is an amazing and inspirational professor who genuinely cares for the well-being of his students. Yes, his exam questions are difficult and make you apply your knowledge instead of regurgitating facts. But, in hindsight, this allowed me to re-examine the way I study and I learnt skills that will help me way beyond this course.
Gary managed to do something very rare - he created an inclusive, respectful, funny and enjoyable class atmosphere while online. His exam questions ARE hard, but at the end of the day you'll see that his answers are always simple and clear. Just avoid overthinking his questions and you'll do fine. 100% would recommend, best class I've ever taken.
Where to even begin - Gary is unlike any prof I've had at McGill. Being in his class, even online, was so wonderful and I would do it again without hesitation. Yes, the exams are difficult but they force you to think in a different way that will help you in the long run. Try not to overthink anything, the answers are always simpler than you think.
Really amazing prof! You can tell he really cares about his students. Very entertaining and helpful lectures. Tough material and exams, you'll definitely have to work for your A! But he goes above and beyond to make sure students are well prepared. 100000% recommend.
Incredible professor and really put in the effort to engage his students during online lectures. He doesn't want his students to just memorize protein and complex names but to actually understand and apply concepts by using more abstract and conceptual questions. His exams are quite hard though.
Overall, he is a good lecturer. His slides are polished, and he is better than average at teaching. But, on his exams, he poses unique questions that require unique trains of thought. Love it or hate it; he is one of the only profs I've ever come across who tests critical thinking effectively (perhaps at the cost of your grade).
best professor
He can be funny, but I dread every lecture. There are no notes in his slides and so you will have to take a lot of notes yourself. In exams, sometimes you have the right answer but won't get a full mark because of the strict grading criteria. Some questions feel so random and you will have no idea what he is expecting for an answer.
He is an amazing prof who makes you want to learn. I wasn't super interested in the content but he explained it in a way that made me want to learn more.
The best professor at McGill, by FAR. So humble and relatable, yet so admirable and respectable altogether. He is the only prof that was able to engage students in online learning. His exams are definitely not a walk in the park, but if you make an effort to understand the material and do practice questions, you'll be fine.
An eye-opening class where professor Brouhard shared his passion and amazement of the beauty of microbiology. Lectures are very well structured and quizzes during the semester helped to stay up to date with the material. Exams are challenging, but fair, especially the final exam. I would go back to his class to listen to his knowledge.
literally the best prof i have ever had. i love this man.
He's a wonderful teacher and you can tell he truly cares about the well being of his students. You'll probably read that his exams are extremely difficult, but I didn't find that my grades were much lower in this class than in the other science courses, so don't let that scare you (he also curves if needed). One of my favorite classes at McGill
Professor Brouhard is the best prof you will ever encounter at McGill, but his exam questions are VERY VERY VERY difficult.
He has the welfare of his students at the heart of his teaching, and he gave us a final speech that had a real impact on us because we knew where he came from through learning about him and from him over the months. Even if you work hundreds of hours in his class, you know he worked more than you during that same period of time. He's the goat.
I don't know if I'll ever take a class this fun again. His lectures are like little stories and it makes the science super accessible. Highly highly recommend taking the course.
REALLY HARD EXAMS (YOU NEED TO STUDY A LOT) but he's funny and whimsical so he gets a 5/5 in my books
-His lectures are truly outstanding and captivating -His teaching style, which includes humor and engagement beyond the slides, makes the material incredibly interesting -His incorporation of fun activities for bonus points adds an enjoyable and interactive element to the overall learning experience
He is fun in lectures and entertains the classroom. It shows that he likes what he teaches. However, his lecture slides are mostly pictures with very little text, so it's super important to take good notes and to listen to everything he says. You're allowed a cheat sheet during exams, but don't be fooled. His exams are the hardest I've ever taken.
This guy is hilarious and a fantastic lecturer. Write down literally everything he says, even the smallest detail, and work to understand the material deeper than surface level memorization. His test questions require you to think in new ways about the material which is what makes them so hard, but not impossible if you understand the material well
Engaging lectures, but beware - exams require deep understanding, not just memorization. unstuckstudy was a game-changer for my study prep.
dont be fooled by himr. He is an amazing lecture, NOT a good teacher his lecture slides contain minimal notes, you to have to write everything he says worst part: You can study as much as you want, memorize every single slide, write down all his notes THEN when you show up to his exam; he will ask the most random difficult questions ever
He is very entertaining, and interesting. He makes you want to learn, which was a nice change from biol 200 despite the teachers being kind. Everyone compares the two because of their difficulty, I personally believe that because Prof Brouhard is so engaging and entertaining he makes the content easier to retain.
He is so kind and tries his best to make lectures engaging and informative. I really loved attending class! His relatability was so refreshing and he added a creative component unseen in any of my other science classes. Go to lecture and study but Gary rules!
One of the best profs I've had at McGill! He really cares a lot about his students, and although the content can be challenging and confusing he always explains it in easy to understand ways. Midterm and quizzes were also very fair, an A is definitely achievable if you put the work in!!
actually out to destroy GPAs. Evil.
He is an excellent professor and always makes his lectures fun. Undoubtably, he is very good at teaching. But his exams are really tough. Don't be too relaxed about exams just because the course is fun. You really need to attend tutorials and SciLearn sessions to improve for the exams.
Best professor I've ever had. Lectures are incredibly engaging and entertaining. I appreciate that he shares things about himself too. Exams are not particularly tough if you have a good handle on the content. Unlike most biology classes, Gary does a great job of avoiding ambiguity in his exam questions too, which is much appreciated!
