This is a very talkative teacher, he can talk and talk about the world around us. His tests are fairly easy, and you can use a 3 X 5 notecard which is very helpful. An A is easy to achieve in this class... but should not be taken lightly... go to class.

Mr. Gary Brown ROCKS! Don't miss this opportunity to take Government here!
good class and good teacher he enjoys the subject. you can use a notecard in class for test and I sujest you do so. also be careful with his papers he is very meticulus about them. great class for Gov 2301 and 2302
Great guy, great professor, great class!
Easy class to make a b in with out much effort, but an A requires quite a bit more. Mr. Brown Teaches in an abstract manner, but his test are comprehensive. The best way to test and make an A is to do his review with answers from the book. Do not rely on a notecard.
very easy. lets u use notecard on test. class is interesting b/c he's always joking around. great teacher.
Well he is clear and fun to listen to, Not your typical professor
Great prof - informative, entertaining, provides Study Guide & optnl exam review session. For an "A," stay ALERT, do study guide w/his answers & EXAMPLES & scan chapt's. No surprises. Use, but do not depend only on index card - must know how to apply e.g's. Highly recommend him & wish he also taught other non-govt classes! Took mini-May class.
He is a sweetheart. He gives you a study guide and a cheat sheet...thats not bad at all. He made an awful class somewhat interesting. Definately recommend this prof!
yes yes yes take this class
Mr. Brown is a wonderful teacher! His class is very enjoyable and he does give a study guide. You are allowed to use a notecard for tests but if you do not pay attention or show up to class this notecard will NOT benefit you hardly at all. Great teacher though, he makes it fun to learn about the world. LOVED his class even though I have a C.
This guy is CRAZY!!! But in a mostly good way. He makes class interesting, but veers off into politics alot.
Gary Brown is a very good teacher. He teachers straight out of his notes and lets you use a notcard on the test. He also makes government very interesting.
he's a good teacher and v ery funny. but his test are about what he talks about in class and he is alittle scattered brained and talks fast.
Mr Brown was pretty cool, I took him for 2301 an ddecided to come back. He jokes a lot, and he never gives any homework except one paper. He lets you use a note card on the test but don't rely on it. He just takes his lectures from the study guide he hands out to everyone. So study that. He talks about politics a lot, but he is a very great teacher
He was an okay teacher. He can be rude and arrogant at times. I actually studied pretty hard in his class and somehow got a B. It's not a blow off class thats for sure.
His class is very interesting and fun to attend. A lot of videos and off topic lectures. You get to use a notecard on exams and an even bigger one on the final. He is a cool guy and wants everyone t succeed. Highly recommened.
Mr. Brown makes class fun. He enjoys teaching and is always in his office if you have any questions. Test are multiple choice. He gives you a study guide for every test and allows you to use a notecard on tests.
Mr.Brown is such an awesome teacher...hes test are straight from his review sheet, and he lets you use note cards on the test.makes class fun,and makes you want to go to class! Pay Attention to everything that he writes on the board and write it down! does nothing but go over whats on the review sheet.3 test, film paper, exam!
He teaches exactly whats going to be on the test and you get to take a note card in to the test with whatever you want written on it. The test is just like the reviews he gives you every time.
The one bad review on here is a pathetic attempt to slam a good professor. He is a wonderful teacher, one of the best I have ever had. Mr. Brown's lectures tie in daily life with politics and show you how it affects all our lives.
This man is awesome! Glad I took him. He doesn't teach from a book, instead he showed videos. He opened my eyes to the meaning of going green! Take him if you can get the chance.
great teacher, extremely funny. let you use note cards on the test! lots of videos...
jerk!!
G. Brown!!! Best Teacher EvER! He lets you use a notecard on the test. All test ?'s are from his lectures. I have taken him for 3 classes! Gr8 Guy! Knows his stuff! Fun Class!! Take Him!
This class was great. Notecard for every test, final not comprehensive, reviews for every test. Lots of movies and funny as hell!Study and it is a cake walk!
Great guy. Always willing to help. Funny and interesting, you won't fall asleep in class. I would recommend him very highly.
Funny and lively. He doesn't just read from powerpoints or anything. Very willing to help. Great teacher. Wonderful people skills. You should take him if you have the chance.
MAKE SURE YOUR CELL PHONE IS TURNED OFF OR ELSE HE WILL FREAK OUT AND GO ON A RAMPAGE ABOUT HIS HATE OF CELL PHONES. But, on the other hand, he lets you use a note card on the tests and he doesn't give homework!!!
Mr. Brown is a fun teacher. He does reviews for tests and finals on saturdays. He gives you the option to use a small note card on tests. The review is helpful because he bolds certain words on the test. Also, knowing stuff about American History helps you be flexible with his teaching. If you love talking politics take Mr. Brown.
best teacher ever!
He & his wife reads & writes the positive comments on here-he will tell you that in class. He is blunt, rude, & talks about hisself a LOT-topics that are not govt related. Makes highly inappropriate & judgmental comments to & about students. He gloats about how great he is & thinks that index cards makes his actions ok. NOT
Strays away from the topic. People in class just randomly talk out in class. Wish the discussion would stick to geography and not people's personal stories. The notecard on the test is nice and the prof is cool, but not enough geography
Took him in mini-semester of '08. Mr. Brown is very knowledgeable. He explains the subject clearly and open to any discussion. Provides review before tests as well as note cards for exam aid. Great teacher.
He goes off topic ALLLLLLLLLLL the time!! the class is all about his family stories and him. they should call it gary brwm 1301/1302. his reviews arent helpful at ALL. if you wanted to ask him a question by email, he doesnt respond nor does he even try to help if you dont understand. hmm.. what else to say if you want to fail take him!
Although I got a B, this class was a huge waste of my time because I spent the majority of my time learning while I was studying outside of class. He lets you bring a small note card to the tests, but it wasn't much help; neither are his lectures because they are always off topic, and his study guides do not reflect the test WHATSOEVER!
Hard course, but everything was useful. I am a typical A or B student and I got a C, but I learned so much from him. I took Geog from Prof Brown and plan on taking my final Govern course with him as well.
He suck at teaching!!! Why is he teaching at a community college? Because he must have gotten a degree from Lonestar College, go figure!!!
Awesome class, keeps you really interested and it is fun. Really helps you understand the importance of Government.
Great Teacher. Got an A in this class! He does go off topic but 80 % of the time it is related to what he is trying to explain during the lecture. And the other 20% is just to keep the class relaxed. You have to be pretty dumb to think that his stories are keeping you from getting a good grade. Oh and the tests are EASY.
he goes off topic all the time. his teaching is not systematic. he jumps from this stuff to that stuff. i have no idea what he is teaching. never take him
I TRIED TO EXPLAIN HIM WHY I MISSED 3 CLASSES (I HAD A HUGE FAMILY PROBLEM) AND HE WAS RUDE!!!!! DIDNT EVEN LET ME FINISH A SENTENCE!!!! HE ALWAYS TALKS ABOUT RANDOM STUFF AND YOU NEVER LEARN ANYTHING!! HE SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING!
Great teacher! Very personable, entertaining, and easy to understand. Would highly recommend him as a professor!
Very random, and rarely stays on topic. If you have a problem with something, hes not very understanding. I failed the final because he was not clear about instructions on the map test. Overall..not such a good teacher.
Wonderful teacher who cares about students learning. Holds study sessions for students after class to help them. Really a great change form my history class where she just could not be bothered by questions.
He does not speak very clearly and rambles on about his own life.
Professor Brown's Govt 2301 class is extremely interesting. As long as you attended class regularly, take notes, and study you will do fine. Ask lots of questions, he is knowledgeable and entertaining.
I really enjoyed his class. He's a ton of fun!
HE is a great teacher. he lets you use a note card for your test!! the only papers you have are film papers its so easy! and he is interesting to listen to!! im taking him for geography next semester!!
Most self-centered man I have ever met in my life. He cares more about sharing his life with the class than actually teaching. He jumps around during lecture making it very hard to follow what he's TRYING to say. Will laugh in your face if you try and talk to him. He does not care about anyone but himself. The notecard on the test is useless.
Great teacher! Loved his class. You don't even have to show up to class because he holds reviews on the Saturday before the test. He said to get the book but I didn't buy one and still go a B in the class.
Great teacher! Loved his class. You don't even have to show up to class because he holds reviews on the Saturday before the test. He said to get the book but I didn't buy one and still go a B in the class.
Good class. He tries to tell jokes, and they sometimes work... Sometimes. If I had known how he was I would have taken gov't 1 with him the semester before.
class over all isnt hard. for every test he allows you to bring in a note card. he also gives our a study guide that is NO help. the test and the study guides are polar oppisites. he is kind of a jerk and i think he plays favorites. he spends more time talking about his wife and the stock market and less time teaching.
If you are a Government major this is not the teacher for you, for everyone else he is great. He makes dry sarcastic jokes and if you don't like that kind of humor, tough. If you pay attention to his lectures, his class is very easy, if you don't, you're (what rhymes with ducked?).
great guy! got to use cheat cards on ALL tests even the final. if u come to all clases you get an extra 25 points to be put on a test or bad grade. willing to help you for everything. and understanding if u have to miss class for good reasons
This guy is my favorite professor! He always has lame jokes that will still make you laugh. He looks like an old Bruce Willis with round glasses. And he will always tell you how he could of been a millionaire if he would of kept his stock in Circuit City
Love Mr.Browm! Yeah he may talk about his personal life a bunch, but it makes class entertaining and not just constant governmnt info being shoved down our throats. Study guides for every test that follow his notes pretty much exactly. Then you get to use a notecard on every test to write whatever you want on it. For sure taking him for Gov. 2302!
Fantastic professor! His energy is infectous! I loved his class and I am for sure taking him for 2302! Take notes, listen carefully and you should have no problem! Funny guy, does great voices!
Prof. Brown is a very entertaining instructor. He made a lot of funny jokes that kept our attention and kept us awake. Govt. is not my favorite subject, but I did learn a lot from his relateable stories. Thankfully, he let us use a "cheat" index card on every exam. That saved me several times. I will be taking him for Govt. 2 this Spring.
Took as a mini-Mester; got an A. The class isn't hard and it is not a bore. Brown is pretty funny and allows you to use a cheat sheet on the test. He talks about stocks a lot, but he's pretty cool :)
Enjoyable instructor. He's pretty funny, and isn't strict at all. He covers everything very well, and any student should be able to get an A without too much difficulty.
Great teacher, very helpful. note card permitted on test and provides a study group the saturday before the test.
Pretty nice guy and will help you with any questions. Also, you can use an index card for his tests so it really helps out! The tests questions can be a little confusing and worded differently from the notes so make sure you understand everything before the test! Overall great teacher I would definitely take him again
Very funny teacher. I enjoyed his class. If you apply yourself you will make a good grade. He let you use note card for test. I wish there were more teachers like Mr. Brown :)
Amazing professor!!! Took him for GOVT & GEOG. He is funny and makes the class interesting. I learned alot!!!!!!
very easy class and great teacher
Awesome Guy! Best Professor I've had at this point. I highly recommend him for any course!
You are able to use an index card cheat sheet on the tests and he holds reviews before the test. Super helpful.
Great teacher! Always willing to help students, read your material and it's easy as usual, quite a chilled teacher.
Very entertaining class with practically no homework assignments. Professor Brown is very helpful and dedicated to helping students succeed. He can teach you about the electoral college and make you laugh at the same time! NOW THAT'S TALENT.
easy class. he goes off topic a lot and sometimes it's annoying.
Awesome teacher. He lets you use a cheat sheet on a test. He does get off topic a lot but I didn't mind it because he made me laugh. He gives you the opportunity to get 5 points extra credit on every test. Also, he has a hour review Saturday morning and goes over everything that will be on the test. Easy A!
Funny guy. Makes class entertaining. Goes off subject a lot though, half the time we didn't get through the whole study guide. Says if you study what he has on the study guide you will pass but not true. His tests don't really follow it so the cheat sheet you are allowed to use isn't really that helpful. BUT I would take him again.
Mr. Brown tried very hard to be a fun teacher, he makes lame jokes and tells stories. He goes off subject a lot and is hard to follow. You can use index card on the tests and have a study guide.. but its hard to get the correct answers out of him. The class isnt that hard as long as you have a general understanding of the material. He is a good guy
When a students asks a question (any type), he either a)makes a joke about the student for asking the question or b) starts talking about himself, which has nothing to do with the question asked. He doesn't take his job seriously. I made an A in his class, but learned nothing except nonsense. He is too concerned about being the "cool" teacher.
Took the class online & it was sooooo easy. I cannot stress how easy it was. Im pretty sure its impossible to fail. Really relaxed, teacher is easy to get in touch with, very clear, to the point assignments. Highly recommend.
Spent all of class talking about himself. I had trouble taking notes because he took long periods of time to discuss something that was irrelevant to class.
Great teacher. Took him for the 3 week mini-mester and laughed the whole time. Tries his best to relate to the class. Likes to have discussions. He lets you use a notecard on the test, which is helpful. Uses handouts for some notes and he goes over them. I really enjoyed him. Taking for GOVT 2306 right now.
I am in his summer class right now and loving it. He explains things well and he is very entertaining! He lets you use a note card on the tests!!!
One of the quality professor known. He loves his job. Tests were easy. Your able to absorb a lot from him when he lectures.
Gary is an AWESOME government teacher. VERY easy going, and funny too. got side tracked often, but he gives you all the info for tests, plus he lets you use a notecard with anything on it to help you during test...all multiple choice. A lot of "gimme" questions! Highly recommend textbook, gets some questions straight from the practice tests!
Fun guy. Makes the class interesting. Depending on what mood you're in, he can be annoying but usually he is a fun guy. The class was an easy A. Just go to the test reviews. His notes are usually pretty random and hard to follow. Very helpful guy, he is always willing to help you if you need it.
Gary Brown is an awesome teacher!!! Sure, he gets off subject at times and likes to make jokes..but he is great!! Made a otherwise boring class fun. Also, you get to use a notecard on the test with as much from notes or whatever as you can fit. I had EVERYTHING on it just in really small font. He let me use a magnifier so that I could see it all.A+
super duper easy! but OMG he gets off topic, did not learn a thing. it gets annoying.
I loved both of the classes I took from Mr. Brown and am signed up for another one this Summer. He is very easy going and personable. Only one paper and 4-5 tests. HE GIVES STUDY GUIDES! And holds review days the Saturday before tests. He likes to get off topic but HONESTLY cares about his students and their future. I recommend him 100%!!!
Best professor ever! Great guy and very clear on what he expects from his students. Easy class, just make sure you make a note card for each test with as much from your notes that can fit on there. Funny and really cares about his students. Take him, can assure you, you will not regret it.
Mr. Brown is a great teacher he truly loves Teaching Texas Govt 2306. He provides a Saturday study review before each test and allows you to use a 3x5 card for tests which is very nice. He tells little antidotes or jokes to lighten the mood while he lectures. I was dreading taking Govt 2306 but I'm glad I took Mr. Brown.
Great guy, super easy
Best professor ever.
Great professor.
Awesome professor. Sometimes he gets off track but hes very interesting. A must take class with Prof. Brown.
Took him for a minimester and I am not a morning person but he was able to keep me awake during his lecture. If you talk to him he will help you out. His first two tests were 50 questions and the last 100 but he lets you use 1 or 2 index cards with notes during the test which REALLY helps out.
Took his class during the mini-mester. He's a good teacher despite the fact that he goes off topic A LOT. Said he would give a 10pt curve at the end but he didn't so I ended up with a B but he's still a pretty decent teacher. Let's you use a notecard on the test.
I took him for a mini mester.I wasnt doing so good in the class and he helped me! Attend his study review sessions and always ask questions he will help you in any way. He does get off topic but he is a great professor and very understandable.
Very funny professor, can get going off on tangents from time to time, but generally has to do with the location being discussed. Not an overly difficult class. Large focus on the people and economies of areas being studied.
Mr. Brown is a friendly, good natured educator. He made Government, a class I had no interest in, fun and exciting. I like the fact that he allows students to use a notecard on exams, and he goes out of his way to do reviews outside of class. He wants his students to do well and cares about them.
He is overall a super easy and entertaining professor. He does allow a note card for each exam and provides review sessions before an exam.
Point blank even when he goes off topic you are still learning. I would have never imagined I would have loved Government this much. He makes learning possible without stressing out. He is the best teacher in this campus. Ps: Be respectful to him, just cause he's friendly doesn't mean you can take take advantage or talk back. GO TO HIS REVIEWS!! W
Professor Brown is hilarious. Although by the end of the year I found myself getting annoyed by some of the lame jokes he said. His class is fairly easy. The tests do get harder as the year progresses, he gives notecards on the test as a cheat sheet. MAKE SURE you write the one essay assignment well because he grades the paper tooth and nail.
3 Tests 1 paper a Final. The whole class consist of going through a review for your test. Make sure to take notes and check of the question he answers because sometimes he skips them and doesn't always go in order. Over all he is an excellent teacher one of the best, just study the notes and you'll be fine. Extra credit if you go to the meetings!
Very clever. He's very easy going, loves talking about his family and his tours around all Europe. He goes of topic and confuses you but you always learn of experiences his been trough. If you can attend his Study guides he gives you 5 extra points on the exam and lets you take an index card. I would defiantly take him again.
Great teacher. If you attend reviews and don't pass the tests you shouldn't be in college. Also has a passion for the stock market. If you attend his stock market club he gives you 5 extra credit points on tests.
the funniest professor by far, easy grader gets off topic but if you email him questions missed he will respond back. real nice guy definitely taking him again in the spring. no way to fail this class unless you really don't care.
Professor Brown is a great, funny man willing to help. Loved his funny jokes and lectures. Only four exams including final and 1 paper. Lets you use a notecard on each exam. One of the best professors in Lonestar College. Will take him again.
LOVED HIM!!Freaking out to see what my final grade is. Straight A student but I think I'm about to get my first B here. Point is study like crazy because your whole grade is determined by only 5 grades (4test, 1paper)Studying to be a Child Psychologist, but he INSPIRED me to get into government, I guess I can do both to make a difference. TAKE HIMM
Gary Brown is a character. Always talking about his trips around the world and incorporating them into the lectures. The weekend study guides before the tests are rare and very helpful. I would definitely take a class with him again.
Brown is an awesome teacher, and by far the best teacher I have had so far in my college career. If you take good notes and pay attention in class you do not even need to buy the book. His tests do require an understanding of the material, but he allows a note card on the test. I took both his geog and govt classes and would take more.
The teacher was great and his lectures were pretty interesting! The fact that he will let you take out a card with info during the exam made it easier to recall details that I didn't want to memorize. It is a pity that he doesn't teach Federal Government. I would take him again any day!
Great guy! He makes government easy to understand. He also checks his rate my professor to reassure him how awesome he is hahahahha keep on rockin Mr Brown!!!
I look forward to Brown's class everyday, and I am not a fan of any form of Government at all. Such a cool and hilarious dude, highly respected and loved by his students. Wants you to do well. Tests go in depth on material, but gives you a notecard AND Saturday test reviews. WOULD DEFINITELY TAKE AGAIN! Brown is the best. Just pay attention!
Very disappointed in taking this class. I'm not the best at government, but he was very unhelpful. He had a very sarcastic response to everything. His reviews did not correspond well at all with his tests. He invests the majority of his lecture in personal stories as opposed to the course content. Would advise not to take him for any class.
Not sure if he is going to continue with the Stock Market Club, but if he does participation will earn you 5 pts toward exam. He pretty much teaches to the test and gives a review on Saturday the weekend before and goes over every answer. You will learn a lot from his class. He keeps it interesting. Never opened the text book. Dont waste your $
My opinion of him was constantly changing. He mostly rambles about his wife(s) and the stock market rather than government. Most of the information was found through the worksheets he gave us (and BRIEFLY mentioned) or the Saturday review sessions, which were helpful but he still found a way to get off track.
Cool dude
Mr Brown I really enjoy taking your class. U r very passionate about politics and knowledgeable. I'm envious about your capacity of memory. Future student: he goes off topic a million times during class, learn from that too. He is brilliant. If u get a B on this class its be cause u were absent and didn't get prepare for the tests.
nice guy
Professor Brown takes a rather dry subject matter, Texas Government, and makes it interesting. He does get side-tracked at times, but he tells lots of funny stories and uses a lot of pop culture references to get his points across. His study guides are extremely informative and helpful and he even lets you bring study notes to the exam.
Professor Brown is very passionate on teaching the subject, but he doesn't always get the point across because he gets very side tracked and off topic almost every class, However, he is very good. He lets you bring ONE front and back 3x5 notecard to the test YOU SHOULD PUT YOUR study guide answers on there and write down what he says. Recommended.
Professor Brown is very nice and does want you to pass! BUT for his lectures it is going over the study guide for the test. I found it very hard to follow his lectures because he gets side tracked TOO much!! This was already a hard subject for me to follow so for him to continue to do that was a failing path for me. Would not recommend
Favorite Teacher! Super funny!
He tells a lot of stories so make sure to actually read the book. He likes to talk about a lot of inappropriate things but a overall cool professor.
Mr. Brown is a very entertaining professor. A lot of people underestimate how much there is to geography beyond just the location of countries and he did a great job of going over the economies, climates, population statistics, etc. He gets off-track with his wife, the stock market, and Kroger, so beware if you have ADD or get confused easily!
There are 4 tests and a final (not accumulative). There is also a 25 point extra credit over a stock market project, which is not difficult, but he goes off topic a lot and starts talking about random things. He has Saturday morning study sessions to go over everything that will be on the test, I recommend going to them.
I absolutely LOVE Professor Brown! Throughout the duration of this class, I became passionate about government. Brown is hilariously entertaining! Often, it would seem like we were engaged in a live comedy performance! Go to his office to ask questions before the tests, he will elaborate clearly. Professor Brown allows 3"by5" note cards on tests.
I took Gary Brown for Geog 1303 fall 2016. Great professor, he tends to bring up things that are not relevant to the subject but if you listen you can easily sort out the important stuff. Holds study sessions the week before tests and gives handouts over next test when you finish a section.
Professor Brown is a good professor, but i will say that students get him off topic ALOT. We do get the information that we need but it is usually the last 20-30 minutes of class. Super nice guy, very funny and informative. Take good notes and you WILL pass!! BTW he is very savvy on the Stock Market so pick his brain. I gave you the Pepper!!!! lol
I enjoy his class because he's pretty funny. He also likes talking about investing and the stock market which I'm into so I enjoy that. Basically no actual homework; just study the chapters as you go and take the tests. Grade is based on 5 tests (4+final) and an extra credit stock tracking assignment.. that's it! And the best thing.. NO PAPERS!
He is a nice professor who cares, but his teaching style is not for me. He is rarely on topic and it is hard to pay attention to his personal life.
Professor Brown is a great person. I can tell why many students do like him. However if you are like me, someone who does not do well in government classes, you will have a hard time. With the off topic lectures and scattered notes etc. I had the exact study guide/ answers for my notecard on tests, never made higher than a C. Not enough structure.
Mr. Brown is pretty awesome. He does study groups on Saturdays before the test and lets you bring in a 3x5 notecard for the test! Easy A if you do all of that! He is kind of all over the place when lecturing and for study group. He likes to talk a lot lol. Good guy though and would take again!
Pros: Lets you use a 3X5 note card on tests Cons: Goes off on tangents of his personal life Basically judges students on their political choices Only go over information for about 20/30 minutes of the 1 hour and 50 minute class.
Mr. Brown is a good guy! Very nice. LOVES to hear himself talk. His notes are a little all over the place and you have to figure them out for yourself. As long as you take advantage of the notecard, you don't have to study hard. Don't buy the book, but go to class. I have a B. I gave him the pepper cause he's been talking about it all semester.
This is the hardest class I have taken at lonestar, not because it is a hard course but because the professor made it hard. And I am saying this after taking Cal3,chem2,bio2 & phys2. He goes off topic a lot and his lectures are super confusing. No doubt he is funny but being funny doesn't make you a good professor. Stay away if you like your GPA!
Professor Brown is awesome. You would never get bored in his class. He got me interested in the stock market and gave me some great life tips for my future. Yes, he goes off the topic a lot and is a bit confusing sometimes but you can always ask him questions after the class. Also come to his Saturday review class and you will do fine. Nice guy!
Professor Brown is great. I am a science major and do not retain history or government info easily, but I did with him. He makes the class interesting. He does give a 3x5 note card for tests, lifesaver. He gives an easy extra credit project that helps a lot on the overall grade! He cares and is willing to help you if you want to do well. Take him!
Lectures are interesting! Govt is not easy to begin with, but professor Brown makes it manageable! And he gives extra credit, note card for test, and test reviews Saturdays before the exams. 5 grades overall plus EC. Definitely recommended!
Take him! Note card for tests, extra credit, and 5 tests. Will help you if you ask!
Awesome
Take him and use now card on tests
He is willing to talk outside of class about projects, and has test reviews offered before every test. His final is not cumulative and he allows a notecard on each test. He loves to see his students succeed. He brags on past students who graduated with honors and wrote me an excellent Letter of Recommendation within 24 hours of when I asked him.
Best government teacher. Very clear and concise. Come to class and pay attention/ do the extra credit! There is always a Sat. test review it is the test so go to it. Gives a note card for the test! He will help you be very successful in life he wants you to be a stock market investor like him and follow his advice it will help you to make money!
He's an ok professor. Enjoys his own self. Talks too much about join gin investment clubs. too many references to himself during lectures. Talked about me to entire class when I had to leave early once. I even asked permission to leave. He has the potential to be a nice guy.
Easy professor for Texas gov. Make sure you go to the saturday test reviews though
I really enjoyed Prof. Browns class! He does tell a lot of stories but honestly I thought they were interesting & made him more personable. He's funny & cares a lot about his students. Tests were just like his study guides & pretty fair.
Excellent Professor. Keeps lectures very entertaining with stories and side notes, while still providing all the necessary information for test day. Only grades are tests, and each unit he provides a study guide that he answers in his lectures. Also allows a notecard w/ any info you want to put on it to bring on test day. Gives a test reviews.
Gary Brown is (how do I say this?)... Eccentric. He's a great fellow and a solid professor. He tends to talk about himself a good deal, and can pick on students a little, so be warned if you're easily offended. He means it in good jest. If you take good notes (of his lecture, not his stories) and stick to the study guide, you'll do just fine.
Prof. Brown was an exceptional professor, I truly enjoyed being in his class. His knowledge regarding Texas politics is very solid and resourceful. He has a unique personality and will tell jokes and side stories occasionally, which makes for a fun and interesting class. He loves to give life advice and can teach you the stock market! Take him!
He talks more about himself and his life than teaching. Study guides are useless; you would only find 2-5 review questions on the test. Only takes test grades with no additional assignments.
Well! I thought this class would be okie because the reviews were not super bad but if you want to learn DO NOT TAKE!!! I know more about his personal life than I do about the class. Because you learn about his personal the tests can be challenging and you don't learn the material. I have zero notes.
He is the most scattered professor i've ever had. I know more about his divorces, kids & his investment in the stock markets than the actually material. He gives a study guide & a 3x5 notecard for the test but only 6+ questions can be found from the sg. His lectures are boring and for 2 class periods all we did was watch pointless videos
Yes he does give note card to use on the test. But everything on the study guide is rarely on the test itself making the "use on test" turn into "USELESS on test". Lectures 50% of time and other 50% he is singing old songs and making fun of us for being young. If you like your GPA then choose someone else.
He's a nice professor gets off task but very proud of his work. He is a very all around professor. It's best to take advantage of his note card, yet don't over due it. He made fun of my note card cause it looked like a bird fold-able. (which was true and let it slide. ) he deserves that chili pepper
Professor Brown has a tough subject as it bores most of us to pieces! He does try to make you laugh although most of his jokes reference an era that the students don't relate to! Study your notes as you don't have many test and they can be difficult! Every test counts, so don't slack off! He let's you use a 3x5 note card for notes on test!
Pros:can use 3x5 note card on tests, gives answers to test review during an out-of-class study session, gives approx. 2 extra credit questions on each test, understands if you miss class for a good reason, gives test grade same day. Cons:writes notes on board (bad handwriting), needs to teach from ppt, gets off subject, and ridicules students.
Professor Brown cares about his students' success! He made learning Texas gov't a fun and interesting experience. I moved here 6 years ago, and taking this class has made me feel more a part of TX. There are no surprises, show up for the lectures, go to the reviews, and there's a good chance you'll make an A. Don't miss out on this class.
Gary Brown is a really good professor. You use a note card each test and get a study guide and he teaches from the study guide. He talks about everything that is going on in the world especially politics. Not a hard class at ALL. I took him for both of my Texas governments.
He's so cool
Overall a good teacher
If you want to pass this class and get good grades on the tests (since its your only grade) study not only review, but powerpoints, and notes. He gives you and index card to use on test but hard to know what to really put on it. Says we are young and don't know things or will remember. You can be nice, but he can be rude. Take him at your own risk.
Professor Brown was amazing!!!! I loved his lectures, you could say I learned a lot. He made Govt. fun with his jokes and funny interpretations. I am going to continue to have him for GOVT 2306 and GEOG 1303!!!
I took Brown for 2305 and 2306 in person. He is amazing. Such an easy class. Write what he writes on the board, fill out the note card, do the review and laugh at his jokes A. You dont need the book either. I dont understand how some kids were doing bad in this class
He is an awesome professor! He is really funny, loves what he teaches and loves teaching. I actually feel like I learned in his class. He allows a note card on the tests, I just put what he wrote on the board and I got A's. He is also really nice and does care about his students. I am already signed up to take him for another class!
Yikes is all I have to say. The only grade's are the four or five test he gives, including the final. Yes, he allows a note card on the test though it is rarely useful. He likes to chitchat and rarely goes over material needed for the test. I wouldn't recommend.
Super funny and laid back and is very willing to help students learn and pass.
Professor Brown would rather talk about stocks than the subject. Our project for GEOG was a stock tracking exercise... He also grades you in only 5 things. I don't think he means it, but he can be rude sometimes. Lectures often deviate from the subject. Got an A but not thanks to Mr. Brown.
I took him for Texas government in the summer and he is by far my favorite professor ever. He really cares about his students. Plus he gives you a study guide and he teaches off of it. You can also use a notecard on his test. Show up and pay attention and you should make an A.
Texas Government, more like "The Personal History of Gary Brown". He spends more than 80% of the class telling stories that are completely irrelevant to the course. Mr. Brown will waste your time and money by making attendance mandatory while continueing to go off on tangents and force you to listen to personal annadotes bout his "hot wife".
The class has no homework. It is all test based; 50 question, multiple choice. You are allowed to bring a note card to the test. He gives the note card to you. Simple type up your notes from class and tape the to the front and back of note card. As long as you come to class and take notes you'll come out with an 'A'
Very fun and energetic, made the class interesting. Not my favorite teaching style, but it did offer a unique alternative to the standard 'plug n chug' strategy. Brown likes to relate almost all of his lectures to real world events, so not only do you learn a lot about the class, but you learn about the real world and current events. Good teacher.
Amazing professor, never a dull lecture. Lets you use a 3 by 6 note card on each test. I took his summer class, so there were only 4 test, no homework, each test is 25% of your grade. Take this professor, great guy.
Would take him again if I needed to take another class he is teaching, unfortunately I'm not. Wish I would've taken during the fall or spring instead of summer, great class.
Amazing teacher! Mr. Brown summerizes everything you need to know to make it easier & understandable. Anything he gives you, handouts or just notes written on the board are extremely helpful when studying for test. He also provides Power Points. It's available online & will also help when studying for tests. He is also funny so class is entertainin
I took him during the summer and he was so awful. he ranted on about his personal life and I learned nothing and government is my major so trust me don't take him!!! He acted like we didn't know anything and didn't respect us what so ever. You are allowed to use a note card for his test but his "study guide" is a waste of paper... literally.
Government is a required class. That said, show up to class, take notes, and study for your test. Professor Brown has some funny one liners and yes it's "ok" to laugh! LIke I said, a required class, make the best of it . Professor Brown is understanding and cares about his students. If you must miss the class make a friend and share notes.
I think he's my funniest professor. I didn't know anything about government until I took this class. Just study your study guide and ask questions and you'll pass.
He spends about the first half of every class joking and giving personal advice to students, the second half is "lecture heavy," but still entertaining with jokes. The textbook isn't completely necessary but does help, and attendance isn't "mandatory" but most definitely helps. He allows notecards on test days, which are the only graded material.
He's a good guy but talks a lot about the stock market.
Grades on 4 exams including the final. Give you a study guide reflects test exactly. Allows you 3x5 card that you can write anything on to use on test (super useful) . Funny personality so it keeps you awake during the class. Gives 3 to 5 questions of extra credit on the test which can be a letter grade. Has a Saturday test review! EASY A
His lectures were mostly entertaining, but confusing-he gets off track often. Your grades are 4 tests (he may start to give 6). You can use 3×5 notecards. If you are slow, choose a Tu/Thu class (you'll have more time to answer the 50 questions/test). He gives approx. 2 extra credit questions/test and a Saturday review. You don't need a textbook.
Easy A! Allows one note card into every test, just fill out all the answers to the study guide on your note card and you'll be set! No homework, no required reading, no writing assignments, and Professor Brown is very nice and funny.
Super fun class, he's pretty funny. Professor Brown brings interesting and engaging stories that tie in perfectly to his lectures. Tests are a breeze if you study, and especially if you have your trusty note card that he allows each student to bring to class the day of the exam! He looks an chubbier version of Bruce Willis (;
Great Professor, very passionate. I enjoyed going to this class.
I highly recommend this Professor. He is very funny and teaches the class well. I would definitely take his class again.
Mr. Brown is a good professor he's very understanding and cares deeply for his students. He doesn't give homework the only grades are tests so you have to take notes and study. He's a funny dude and very knowledgeable and he makes the classroom fun. Also he gives you a note card that you can fill out before your test.
Gary Brown was an okay professor. He was slightly rude and had no sense of personal information. Most of the time he is talking about how much money he has or about his "hot" wife. You can only have one retest and a certain amount of classes to miss to keep an A. I feel like everything he taught could have been found in the book. Easy A, Bad Prof.
Brown's got a lot of personality and he knows his stuff. He doesn't give homework and his tests are open notes. However, the tests make up the entirety of your grade, his notes are a little disorganized, and he's often too busy performing and shaking his fist at millennials to pay attention to the time. Compared to Mr. Krabs by multiple classes.
i know more about his life than i do about texas and i've lived here all my life. 5 grades. but the final isn't cumulative so that's nice. also u were allowed to use a notecard during the test so if u pay attention and read even a little bit you'll pass easily.
He slacks off his topic all the time and his tests are SO hard!! I would not take his class whatsoever!!!
SO FUNNY. I always looked forwards to going to class. Boring lectures but taking good notes and attending his hour long Saturday review guarantees you an A. Also lets you use a notecard on every exam. Barely studied. DO NOT GET THE TEXTBOOK. You dont need it at all.
I would've taken a later class and not an early class because of his long lectures. He lets us have a note card with our own notes when we take tests. No homework. He's funny. And he also has in class reviews on saturdays for an hour so that were prepared for our next test. Just show up to class, dont skip, and take notes and pay attention
5 tests total, 50 questions, with 2 bonus, each of them weighted the same, and you are allowed a 3x5 notecard at each test. You have one test retake, but you can't use a notecard then. No homework. His teaching style is to write everything on the board before class, then goes over it that class period, but with time for plenty of asides.
Textbook not needed, skip class you probably won't pass. Most of the material that you're tested on comes from his lectures, extra credit questions are offered on tests, no papers, no homework. Mr. Brown is very funny and caring, his lectures are interesting, and he's very clear on what he expects from students! Pay attention and you will pass!!!
Great professor! Test are super easy and youre allowed a notecard to use. Saturdays before test he has a study group where hes most likely to tell you actual test questions. Every test has extra credit. He tells a lot of jokes in class. Definitely cares about his students passing. I missed a lot of class and he was very understanding.
He showed up to class late almost every morning, because he was checking the stock market. His lectures were all over the place and very disorganized. He overshared about his personal life, especially his "hot wife" and the money he has. No extra credit, so you better pass the tests because they are the only thing he grades.
His lectures never made any sense and often times what he talked about was not on the test. He just grades the tests and they're very difficult. He talks about the stock market and his wife and kids a lot and often times played random videos in class. If you skip class you will NOT pass. You can try and take notes but they don't really help.
Gives extra credit test questions and is very clear about what will be on the test. Saturday test reviews are good! He takes attendance and gives bonuses during lectures, so its a good idea to go to class. He rambles ALOT, so it can be hard to tell what is important to listen to. I guess he can be interesting if you are a government person...
The class is not difficult, but he makes it harder than it needs to be. His class is entirely lecture based, but he rambles incessantly; most of what he says isn't on the test, much less related to the class. Saving grace is that he allows an index card to be used during the test. Tries to be funny more than he tries to teach. You must attend class
Professor Brown is solid choice is you like showing up to have a good time. The only complaint is that in his class tests are the only thing graded there is never any homework or projects which isnt a bad thing if youre a good test taker. He makes class fun, but be ready to hear a lot of personal stories. He also allows a note card on tests.
Show up to class, you should pass. Super funny and understanding. Allows a note card on test and gives extra credit on tests. Should be fine without a book.
By far one of my favorite professors. He knows his material very well and provides you with many examples so you're able to understand. He cracks jokes here and there which makes the class so much more interesting. He's very caring and willing to help out his students when in need. If you show up and pay attention you'll pass.
Hosts Saturday review sessions before each test. Allows you to use a notecard on every exam. Gives answers to bonus questions in class. He tries to make it entertaining & is a good person.
Professor Brown is amazing. He is quite knowledgeable about his stuff. Tests are super easy because he allows you to write on 3 by 5 note card and bring it on test day. There are no assignments whatsoever. Take him!
YOU CAN HAVE A INDEX CARD WITH NOTES WRITTEN ON IT FOR THE TEST! just show up for his Saturday morning study groups where he tells you literally whats going on the test question by question. He also gives bonus questions on the test. He shows videos and charts to ensure that you understand the information no matter what type of way you learn best.
Mr. Brown's Saturday Test Reviews are amazing and provide a lot of answers on the Study Guide. If you know all of the study guide and pay attention in class, you will pass. He sometimes did not elaborate enough on information but then put in depth questions on the test. Be ready to memorize. He makes class interesting with his personal stories.
Mr. Browns class is by far the easiest class I've taken. I bought the textbook and didn't open it up once. He goes over everything that's on the tests during lecture, so if you miss class, you'll have a harder time passing tests. His lectures are always very fun to go to, and has Saturday test reviews to go over everything on the test. Loved taking
Just finished with Professor Brown, he does what the school requires him to do. The guy literally only based his class around exams, he gives you a note card but its without lube. I gotta respect the fact this dude makes Texas government hard, thats pretty difficult to do that. Its best you choose another Professor, not a wise choice.
Very lighthearted, knows his material. MUST have the textbook, he allows students to bring a notecard with important information for test.
Definitely recommend his class, easiest A in college so far
Great teacher, thoroughly enjoys his subject so that class is much more enjoyable. Only assignments are tests but he prepares you and allows a notecard to be used
During lectures he will give you little information on the test, even though he lectures the whole time he tells stories and jokes around too much. He can be funny but its not funny when he passes the test out and you don't know anything on it. Can use a notecard on the tests with information so use it. Only takes test, no other grades
Texas Gov was pretty easy. The class is all lectures but he can be very funny and engaging. He can sometimes get a little distracted by joking around with the class, but if you ask him about something from the study guide, he'll answer it. Tests were really easy as long as you weren't skipping all the time and filled out the note card.
I took this class cause I had to and barely passed. He gives out reviews but doesn't go off of the reviews for the tests. He likes to call students out and isn't nice when you ask for help or tell him something. If you want to learn about his life and nothing about the texas government, take this class!
Fantastic teacher. He goes out of his way to make sure you are prepared for the test. He holds Saturday test reviews, which are extremely helpful. He really enjoys his subject, which shows in his entertaining lectures. Only tests are graded, but they are not hard if you go to the review and bring a notecard. Great teacher, would take again!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Saturday test reviews that gives answers to the test. 1-2 extra credit questions on all 4 tests. Allows an index card with notes each test so there is NO excuse to not get an A. He loves government and makes the class super interesting. He does get a bit off topic but overall one of my favorite professors!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
He is one of my favorite professors. The lectures are interesting and the extra credit questions are hidden in the lecture so just write down everything. Has Saturday study sessions, lets you use a note card on the test. The only grades are the 5 tests, but pay attention and you will pass. I would take him again.
Gary (Gare Bear) Brown is the best professor I've ever had. He's so funny and the tests are easy and have extra credit. He makes me laugh throughout the entire class and shows us pictures of him when he had hair. The class is overall very fun and worthwhile. NOTECARD ON TEST. He's also the hottest man I've ever seen.
Professor Brown is definitely a character, but it makes him a good teacher. He has 5 tests and for each test you can bring a note card with whatever you need on it, front and back. He does tell a lot of stories, but some of them are for extra credit on the test. The tests are almost exactly like the study guides he provides. Easy and fun class! :)
the only thing i hated about the class was that it is all tests, he lets you use a notecard for all of the tests but over half of the time it felt like what was on the test was not the as the review, its an easy class but that was very annoying
Honestly loved Brown. I had him during COVID and he is always trying to help the student. Only classes are for test reviews and he goes over his study guide and tells stories which are extra credit in the test. Last exam was take home and if you went to the review you pretty much got a 100%. Just do your study guide and record his study session.
Professor Brown is an interesting guy to be sure. You only get grades on the tests, but if you learn the study guide you're good to go. He's funny, but he goes off on a lot of tangents about his personal life, so I didn't get a lot out of the actual class itself.
I'd recommend showing up to all the classes because he goes over a lot in the lectures and what he doesn't get to in class is easily accessible on d2l. He makes a lot of jokes, goes on some tangents, and often mentions his own life, but usually in relation to the material that is being gone over. You can use a note card on the tests.
I like this professor a lot and like his lectures and he cares a lot, and he loves his subject. Be prepared that you can fail in this class. There are only five tests and no homework, so if you got a bad score on two tests as I had during a difficult time for me, you will get the same letter as I did C. I will take it as a lesson! Study in time!
Professor Brown was my absolute favorite professor! He tries to make the content as fun & easy as TX Gov. can be & always has a joke in hand. He offers Saturday review days before a test & allows you to use a notecard on the test. He genuinely cares for his students & wants to see them succeed & get an A in his class! Take him!
Took this class due to requirements but he mostly talked about his own life instead of the material and then he would have us stay late after class in order to get the material in. The only assignments are the five tests so you have to do well on all five in order to get a good grade, can use a notecard. Inappropriate remarks every class.
He is the worst instructor I have ever had. He makes fun of & openly mocks students with learning difficulties; asks female students inappropriate questions about their fertility; & spends the vast majority of class talking about himself (ex-wife, twin sons, being cheap, his dad, his cancer, his dishwasher, his car battery, etc.). Do NOT take him!
Extremely easy class, only grades based on 5 tests where he lets you use a notecard. However, his lectures are insufferable. He talks too much about his private life/opinions and asks very inappropriate questions to female students and international students. Easy class, I never attended lectures and still got an A.
I love Professor Brown!! Anyone who says that his class is hard, just truly did not try or put any effort in. His tests are a little hard, just because he doesn't do word for word like what is on the study guide. I never studied for his tests because he lets you use a notecard to put WHATEVER info you want on there. Love him, great professor!!!!
Talks too much about things not related to subject. Goes on tangents all the time and tough grader.
Professor Brown's lectures were insufferable! He talked way too much about his personal life and never taught us anything. He would go over test questions in class, but he spoke so much about random bs that we would go over one or two questions max. The course is easy, but he is unprofessional, lude, and boring. Take at your own risk!
the class itself isn't too bad, the only grades are the 5 exams you take. He allows you to use a notecard for each test with any information you want on it as well. The lectures are pretty brutal and it's impossible to stay on topic for more than 5 minutes so you don't really learn too much in class. funniest prof youll ever have. DONTBUY A TXTBOOK
Do you want a corny, ranting, comedy show every other day in place of an actual Government class? Then this is the class for you! Uncle Gary will make sure to ask the women in his class if they are fertile and then go into detail about how his four marriages ended. He will only assign five tests so pray you do well. NO RETESTS.
if you are not a good tester, do not take his class as they are the only thing that make up your grade, and they can be very hard sometimes. there are no assignments and no homework. although his nice and funny, he can get sidetracked and talk about his personal life for 10 minutes at a time a few times a class.
Prepare to do most reading yourself. Lectures in class can go very off topic. Attendance is mandatory for testing days and highly encouraged for the other days since it is a "review". Honestly, if you prefer to do work at home rather in class, go for it. Most of your class time is wasted in a chatty conversation.
Very test heavy, only grades were on tests. He has study groups on the Saturdays before tests. Very funny. Attendance not mandatory except for Exam days.
Professor Brown keeps the class entertaining with his quirky stories, but be ready to tune out the tangents and focus on the study guide. unstuckstudy ai was a lifesaver for test prep.
