Very difficult professor, but very knowledgeable. He gives you study guides, but you must know all the information front to back and upside-down. The tests are difficult, but if you study and attend the classes you'll be fine. He uses the book to supplement his lectures.
He's a great teacher but his tests aren't given in a good setting. It's a large lecture hall and he gives 35 questions for a short period. He LOVES TrueFalse questions, and they can be tricky. I do not recommend taking this class if you have testing anxiety, I should know, I have it and I failed every test knowing the material.
I'm still in this class I got an 88 on the first test without the book so I thought I was fine, but then a 57 on the second test.. he's pretty all over the place with his lectures but he really knows the stuff. He doesn't give any study guides or review before tests. I like him as a person but he's very hard and doesn't offer any help before tests
This class was difficult. He knew his stuff and was a great teacher, but the fact that your grade is only composed of these 4 or 5 tests was pretty tricky. I dropped out; the test was very difficult, and I attended all the lectures and took notes.
He talks the whole time. No powerpoints or anything to accompany it. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS. Literally any and every detail. Make notecards before each test and you should be fine. He goes on a point system so even an 85.7% is still considered an A. Don't need textbook. 4 tests, he drops lowest. 1 final. 1 take home quiz.
Took him for Government. His lectures are a bit long but he knows what he's talking about and as long as you show up to class and take decent notes you'll pass. He doesn't take attendance but missing isn't the best idea. Tests are difficult but as long as you spend a little bit of time studying you'll pass.
His lectures are all over the place but he knows what he's talking about. Notes and Powerpoints are not online because they are on a whiteboard. His first test is so hard he calls it, "the fear of god test" but the next two were easier. If you want a challenge and want to learn a lot choose him. If you want an easy class this is not for you.
This was a pretty clear and easy class. Tests are easy if you study and read. 4 tests+final, drops lowest grade. You need to come to class and if you skip make sure you find someones notes. No PPTs. Writes everything on board. Can be easy A if you show up and miss minimal. Skipping can be the difference between A and C. Would take him again.
Overall, he is very passionate about the topic. He kept the class pretty interesting with his jokes and interesting facts. In order to pass this class you will need to go to every class, take good notes in class, read the chapters, and study really well for the tests. No technology allowed. Ton of True and False on tests. Tests are tricky.
He knows his stuff, and has a lot of awesome stories so his lectures are very interesting. However, his tests are very hard and specific. He does not offer help outside of the class, and all of his "notes" are written on a white board. I wouldn't take him again.
Great professor! I really enjoyed his lectures and his tests are what he goes over in class, so skipping is not wise. He doesn't recommend the textbook so I wouldn't even bother getting one. All around great class!
Fantastic professor, I would absolutely recommend to everyone.
GO TO CLASS. His tests come straight from his lectures so as long as you pay attention and take good notes you'll get an A. The material is boring but he makes jokes to hold your attention. 4 Tests and a Take Home Quiz for extra credit.
By far the most tricky and confusing exams I have ever taken. Made a B on the first exam and failed the rest. I went to class, took diligent notes, read and studied the book, so I'm not sure what else I could have done. I felt like I understood everything, but my grades sure didn't show it. Wouldn't recommend unless you're a genius.
This professor is very knowledgable in the subject but is all over the place!Tests are extremely confusing & I studied like crazy! Made a B on first test and tanked on the rest. Very disappointing. Avoid if you can unless you are educated in the subject already. He definetly does not treat this as an intro course.
The test are hard, even if you write down word for word what he says. Your grade will only be built upon 4 test and a take home quiz. The first test was easy as long as you went to his class, but he hardly goes over what to study. The rest of his test are all styled differently so it is hard to figure out how to study. Also, he likes true or false.
I think he is a secret agent. He is also really good at poker. Likes to tell stories.
Took him for American Government and he really wasn't that bad. His content is pretty clear and straight forward. 4 Test (lowest grade gets drop), take home quiz, and a final. You can live w/o the textbook. The only complaint I have about him is his "watergate rule" (no electronics), but that's only cause I prefer to take notes on my computer.
He is very knowledgeable about the subject. Tests are extremely difficult. The only way you will pass is if you memorize the dates and names. Sometimes he tests on things he didn't mention in class so be prepared to miss questions. Got C's and a B on the tests. Take home quiz was pointless. TAKE DETAILED NOTES. He has many stories to entertain.
Personally, I didn't like his class. His notes are all over the place. Your grade is made up of 4 tests, a final, and an extra credit assignment. He drops the lowest test grade, so he only counts 3. The class is really boring. He uses all of the class time, so don't expect to get out early. On the bright side, he knows the material.
This guy knows his stuff, funny, and clear cut; but does make you work for your grade. Only a few multiple choice tests. The textbook isn't mandatory, everything you need to know he goes over in class. That being said, attendance is very important. Coming from someone who's not good at history, just show up, listen, take notes and you'll be fine.
Great guy, knows all his material off the top of his head. Textbook is completely unnecessary, he will genuinely tell you everything you need to know, make sure you write down everything. Even if it seems like he's getting off topic he knows exactly what he's doing he'll make it a quirky question on the test. Tests are difficult but not impossible
Makes the topics interesting and knows it all off the top of his head. Doesn't really interact with students so much as talks at them, but he's very relaxed and personable.
Funny guy! Intelligent w/ clear-cut expectations. Get ready to write everything down, every test question comes from whatever he says in class. Don't need a textbook, and he does take the whole period. Tests are achievable if you take good notes and put in the effort to study. A lot of court cases but I highly suggest you take his class.
Every class is taking notes, but he's really funny so it isnt entirely boring. You can tell he is a genius, everything is off the top of his head. Don't need a book. Take detailed notes and you'll be fine for the tests.
I didn't like his class. Very smart guy but as a result everything in class is him lecturing and writing notes on the board off the top of his head. His notes can be all over the place and tests are hard with a lot of specifics. Every test had a few questions with material we never discussed. He teaches like it's high level POLS not an intro class.
Do not take this class. I showed up to every single class, took detailed notes, and still made B's and C's on the tests. I only took this class because I had to. He teaches as if it were a major course in political science. Started this class with two friends... both ended up withdrawing. I should have. Absolutely ridiculous for a gen ed.
There were 4 tests but he drops the lowest grade. There was also a take home quiz but that wasn't really difficult. The Final was just over the final unit we covered. He seems to know his stuff but the lectures can be pretty boring and don't expect to get out early. The tests can be difficult but weren't the hardest things ever.
Awesome teacher, this man seemed to know everything there is to know about history. His lectures were very intresting. However, his class is all lectures and the tests are based off the lecture and he does not post the lecture online. The only posi
Does not allow electronics and does not post notes. I attended every class except maybe three and failed two tests and got a D on the third. I have never failed a test before, ever! Hard class, too hard for a gen ed. He was funny at times but the tests were just too hard for me. I should have withdrawn when I had the chance. Good luck.
Class is lecture only. Graded on 4 test (lowest grade dropped) and a final that is just another test. Lectures don't follow the chapters in the book so don't miss class. No electronics in class so be ready to take notes. Test are not necessarily hard, but a lot of True/False questions that are tricky. I suck at government/history and passed.
This man is hilarious, and very smart. He makes his lectures intriguing. The best part is his test are about what he says in class, NOT THE BOOK. Pay attention in class take good notes, and you will get an A.
Only grades recorded are 4 tests, and there is a chance for a very small extra credit. He is very knowledgeable and he makes the class very fun. He teaches to the test but some questions on tests are tricky, but overall a great class and easy to pass.
He was a GREAT teacher. You HAVE to go to class, if you do, you'll get A's on every single test. If you don't, you will fail. His class is so easy.
I HATE government, BUT this professor is amazing. He explains topics clearly, so it is easy to understand. He only gives 4 tests, plus a final, but he drops the lowest test grade. I made an A on every test, but you must take good notes and attend EVERY class. Didn't use the textbook at all.
If you don't go to class/take notes there's a 0% chance you will pass. Don't overthink ANYTHING, and know the most important things. Don't use your textbook because it's not going to be on the test. Study 2 weeks prior to a test or you won't pass.
When I registered for this class, I was a little on the fence because of all of the ratings on this site. But it wasn't at all that bad. The class is 100% lecture so be ready to listen/ take notes. There are only 5 tests and the 1 is dropped. I made a high B on the 1st test and As on the rest. If I can do it you can too as long as you put in effort
A good choice as long as you go to class and pay attention.
Prof. Carrico is a good prof. who knows A LOT about how the American Government works. His class is all lecture, but as long as you pay attention and take decent notes, you'll do fine. There are 5 tests, including a final (which isn't cumulative), and the lowest test grade is dropped, except the final. No homework and the textbook is NOT needed.
Really knows his history. Lectures right off the top of his head. Don't skip class because his test are based on his lectures and he doesn't use the book. He doesn't post notes on D2L so you need to get with a classmate for notes and studying. The test is really hard.
You can go to class and take notes and you still won't pass. I went everyday and took detailed notes and ended up with a D and so did almost everyone else. Do not take this prof.
Professor Carrico is super funny! His classes are all lectures and he doesn't require the textbook. You do need to go to class though because the tests are based on his lectures. The course was four tests (he drops the lowest one), a take home quiz and a final. I loved this class and I hate history, if that says anything.
He was enjoyable and very passionate about American Government. He lectured straight from his head but also made sure the class knew the backbones of government. There are 4 tests and drops one. Test are relatively hard and sometimes tricky, but makes you go "duh, of course, I knew that". Class can be distracting, sit in front two rows!
this profssor really teache swith passion but beware he talks fast. what he writes on the board is very important. the textbook is not neccesary you get all you need from the lectures. he's actually quite funny and he's easy to understand. take very good notes and dont miss class
Attend class and listen to the lectures and you will pass. Very good teacher and very interesting class. Knows what he is talking about
Professor Carrico is a nice guy and wants all his students to succeed. Didn't use the textbook at all or the revel code. Show up to class bc theres no notes online. He kind of rambles in his lectures but his tests are REALLY easy as long as u take good notes and show up everyday. There is "extra credit" take home quiz. Final isn't cumulative.
This man deserves way more credit than he is given. He is by far my favorite professor at KSU. He is hilarious and lectures strictly off the top of his head. He has great stories and is VERY smart. He was emphasize major points to know and if you take detailed notes you should be just fine. if you are given the chance to take him, do it!!
A lot of people struggled in this class as it is a GEN ED and people who were uninterested in subject matter took it. His brain worked in a similar way to mine so I had no problem taking detailed notes. Studying these notes for two hours before the tests allowed me to make a 99 average. Attend, take notes, and you will be fine.
His tests are repeats of exactly what he said during lecture. He gives 4 tests, a take home quiz, & the final, & those are the only grades he gives you. Doesn't put grades in D2l, but he does give you the answer key after the test so you know what you made. DO NOT buy book or online code. Didn't use them ONCE. Just study notes the day of the test.
The class was the most boring class i have ever took in college all he did was talk and it was hard for me to just focus bc i was fighting myself from going to sleep which lead me to not doing as great but If you have a hard to focusing in class i promise you will fail this class bc all he does is talk
funny professor but i cant honestly say you can do well by just taking notes and studying unless you are just gifted with photomemory. you need to buy the book to do well on his tests just because in the book it goes more in depth than his notes. the questions he asks on his test are very vague to where you will question yourself
Extremely easy class. Lecture heavy, if you're not a note-taker or not the type of person who likes to sit and listen to someone talk for an hour straight, then you probably won't like him. I thought his lectures were pretty entertaining and informative. Tests are multiple choice. The book isn't needed, just come to come to class and listen
This man is a good professor to be honest. You have 4 test and the lowest grade gets dropped, you have a final and one take home quiz. If you take his class you can't mess up his test because its only graded by few things. Class is notes and then you take the test. Not good with notes? Don't recommend it for you
Great professor with an awesome knowledge of the subject matter. Would recommend ten times over, especially if your major has anything to do with politics or American history. Lectures are voice-only, so no Powerpoints will be available - attendance is a must. Definitely take notes as he talks, because his boards can get very messy quick.
This professor is nice but all you do is go to class and take notes for the whole class. I don't recommend this class for you if you don't take good notes. His test questions are vague and don't make sense. If you wanna make an A you have to by the book because his notes won't get you an A in the class!
Overall worst professor you could take for this class. Will not let you type your notes or record his lectures. If your handwriting is bad when writing full speed word for word then you will miss questions on the test (especially since its all trivia) Questions involve "Who was the first female house speaker" or "What president made policy vetoing"
I do not recommend taking him. His classes are all audiory, he writes a few words on the board every few minutes and those words wont even make sense unless youre really paying attention. There are no powerpoints, he does not post anything online, and you just have to try your best to listen and write down what you think will be on the test.
very lecture heavy, have fun trying to keep yourself awake during his everlasting lectures. Don't expect to skip class If you want a B or an A.
He doesn't allow any technology, and talks so fast and all over the place that it's impossible to write everything down. Tests on random details you probably didn't have time to write down. It's impossible to do well. DON'T TAKE.
DO not take this professor. He talks very fast and doesn't allow any electronic devices. As you are attempting to write the last thing he said you can easily miss a test question he says. He does not care how the students do, and does not teach from the book. Do NOT take this professor, Very lecture heavy.
This class really just did not work with my type of learning. Every class was a lecture with no powerpoint and no writing on the board (at least no writing that was clear). He also did not allow any electronics so you had to take notes at the pace of his voice on paper, and he never repeated or slowed down. There are 5 test that's it
He is one of the worst professors I have taken. He talks extremely fast and does not allow electronics of any sort and has no power points. He is rude to his students and makes it very clear he does not care. 4 tests and 1 final, all very difficult and nothing based on what he talks about in class. do not take this professor.
Only 4 tests and a final, tests are strictly based on his lectures. If you zone out during lectures or learn better by reading this isnt the move. He also hates phones and computers, only way I survived was sneak recording lectures on voice memos. Not difficult material just bad set up for visual learners.
Don't take him, it is absolutely boring. You will be fighting the urge to fall asleep in his class. He lectures the whole class period without the use of notes or powerpoints. He writes a few words on the board every now and then, but if you weren't paying attention those words will make no sense at all. Plus his handwriting sucks. Avoid him.
Incredibly boring and lecture heavy. No powerpoints, no online resources other than the online textbook he mentions once. All classes are pen to paper, no technology. He's incredibly politically biased and it shows in his lectures. You have 4 tests (1 gets dropped) and a final. He doesn't submit grades till December.
Probably one of my favorite teachers I've ever taken at KSU. He's super knowledgable and tells information in a way that is interesting. If you learn best by listening & creating your own notes then you will love him. He grades papers easy but tests you definitely need to study for. No notes will be on d2l so come to class
Paying attention and ATTENDING class are vital to succeed, notes aren't online. He is funny and a good lecturer, so if you have more than 3 brain cells you shouldn't find him boring. The class takes minimal effort to pass, as long as you pay attention you have little to study. Remember most of these reviews are from people who failed/dropped.
As a person, he is funny and you can tell he is very interested in what he teaches. However, I had a hard time grasping anything he taught in his lectures. No electronics, he doesn't use any either, he just talks (really fast too and all over the place). 4 tests, 1 takes home quiz, and the final. Hard class if you aren't an auditory learner.
Don't bother buying the textbook because in class he didn't use it to teach he would just come in a talk, no resources used. But, they were very interesting lectures. He doesn't take attendance but if you miss class you miss a lot of notes and the only grades are 4 test (lowest gets dropped), a take home quiz worth 12 points and a final
Professor Carrico (Gary) is a good professor. He lectures and writes information on the board. Does not use or allow technology in his class. ATTEND CLASS. YOUR NOTES ARE YOUR BIBLE! You will have to study, especially before a test. Only grades 4 tests (drops the lowest) and the Final. Uses instant gratification so you know your grade on tests.
Don't take him if you are a visual learner and need powerpoints. Don't take him if you're not good at taking notes on strictly lectures. No technology is allowed. He doesn't even use it. His classes are strictly lectures and the only grades in the class are four exams in the final. He does drop one though. I had a really rough time.
The classroom is a technology free zone and only (occasionally) will notes be written on the board. If you don't take detailed notes from his lectures you will struggle on the tests. Your grade only consists of your average of 4/5 tests. I would not recommend taking his class unless you already have a strong knowledge of government and history.
Gary is an interesting guy. His lectures are very entertaining and you actually learn about government in his class. Everything on the tests are solely based on his lectures, so you must go to class and get the notes to pass the tests. He only has a few tests and the final is non-cumulative. Only reason I got a B is because I didn't really try.
This is one of the most difficult professors I have experienced. He literally writes in the board and expects you to remember everything. It is so much and he just talks nonstop. We only had 4 tests and the questions are very specific. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN!
I took the hybrid class. No papers - just online weekly quizzes and in-class tests. The tests are really tricky, and the questions are written to trip you up - but he posts long study guides for every test online. He doesn't use PowerPoints; he only writes on the board. His lectures are really funny. You have to take LOTS of good notes to pass.
Carrico is wild, he's an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate professor, but his lectures are SOOOOOO important. Your notes are your bible, Quran, torah, whatever... Go to class, take good notes, ad be careful when studying because his tests are designed to make sure you were paying attention.
Carrico gets a solid "eh" from me. If you're a visual learner like me, don't take this class. He writes down very little, so you basically have to guess what the tests will be about. He's nice and pretty funny, he just doesn't teach in a way that works for everybody. If it works for you, cool. If you're visual, maybe try someone else.
Mr. Carrico has got to be my favorite professor at Kennesaw State so far. He is extremely passionate about history and has an extensive knowledge about the subject. His lectures were fun to listen to and his class was one of the few that I actually wanted to go to. I would recommend him.
His lectures consist of 85% talking, 15% writing on the board. He is very knowledgeable about his subject, but is extremely unpredictable when it comes to tests. Also, do not miss a class. His tests are designed to see if you pay attention to small details during his lectures. I wouldnt take him again because his teaching style doesnt help me.
Very engaging lectures and you can tell he is very passionate about the class. If you don't take notes or go to class you won't pass. Your only grades are the exams and study hard for them because they aren't the easiest. Not a difficult class, just very dependent on actually showing and taking notes.
He's a super cool guy, and does try to make the class enjoyable.... but you have to listen to every single word he says to just pass the tests. There are 4 tests and a take home quiz for this class, only 1 test grade is dropped at the end so make sure to know all information before coming to class on test days.
UPS AND DOWNS: He said attendance was mandatory but never takes the role. Every class is 75 minutes of him talking and writing on the board. He does not use a textbook and post the readings on D2L. On the positive side, there is no outside work other than a take-home bonus quiz. 5 exams, drops lowest. This class is an easy A for those who study.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but don't expect to pass his tests if you don't go. Take LOTS of notes. Even if it seems irrelevant, chances are it'll be on the test. There's a take home bonus quiz at the end and his lectures are pretty funny.
The most vague professor I have ever taken at KSU. So unclear in what he is looking for. Test dates not announced in syllabus. Has no grading rubric for few take-home assignments yet is such a tough grader. Bounces off his own ideas and rambles the entire lecture. He has not entered a single grade into D2L and finals are next week. Do not take.
He is a great professor that makes history sound fun. He constantly brings up jokes about various topics in history. While there are only five tests, he gives two extra questions as bonus questions for you to miss and still make a 100 or a 99. An all-around great guy who really inspired me to be more aware of the United States political system.
his lectures could be boring from time to time but some of the topics are interesting. You need to take good notes for his tests. He posts the lectures on d2l which are so helpful. be careful on tests though because he tries to trick you. study every little thing even if it seems unimportant.
His lectures are one word written on the board and he just talks about the word he writes. Its very hard to take notes in this class. He also doesnt give homework and rarely posts on d2l the only grades are tests and the tests arent the easiest.
boring as heck. no electronics and will call u out for it and stop the lecture. no textbook to buy, he posts the articles on d2l. just monotone and lectures about staff that isn't even on the test half the time. you find out your test grade right after taking it but he doesn't enter any grades until dec. only 4 tests/drops lowest. final & 1 quiz
One of the hardest classes ever. Seriously, do not take. Government should not be this hard. No electronics what so ever, cant even have your phone on your desk, or he will stop lecturing to yell at you. So much information during each lecture that is not even used on the test, but you need to memorize it all. The tests are so hard. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Carrico is a decent professor who likes what he teaches and the tests correspond well to the lectures. No textbook so skipping will pretty much guarantee a fail. 5 tests including the final. His lectures are decent but he rambles a little sometimes.
I had to take this class because of my learning community and I hated it. Gary does not act like a teacher and his tests did not make sense to me. Save yourself the headache and take someone else.
If you study and care enough to show up to class every day, you'll be fine. He's an amazing dude who teaches history in a really interesting and funny way, but everything graded in the class (4 tests and 1 extra credit quiz) is based on his lectures. Show up, pay attention, study, and you'll be fine. Pay attention to what he repeats in lectures.
Great teacher, tests are unbelievably hard and questions are worded terribly
He gives the best lectures I've ever had. Hes funny and tells cool stories and keeps you engaged. Pay attention to his lectures and make sure you take notes because his tests can be pretty difficult
If you have no interest in Politics or the way our government works, I HIGHLY suggest taking this class. He breaks everything down as easy to understand as it can be, and at least I found the subject really interesting. the only grades in this course are 4 tests and a take-home quiz. Make sure you go to the study sessions since there is no text.
No textbook, all lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you will fail this class if you don't take thorough notes. Your only grades are 4 tests + 1 non-cumulative final, with one extra credit quiz. Good speaker, easy to pay attention. Always kept us informed, even after KSU closed due to the pandemic. If you're a good note taker, great class.
If you're taking this class, you'd better be ready to take notes and study them. He only lectures but he's very good at it and makes it interesting. The tests are pretty hard so you can't get by without studying unless you have perfect memory.
Professor Carrico is a great professor with entertaining lectures. His online content during COVID-19 wasn't the greatest, but his normal classes are great so long as you attend class, take detailed notes, and study at least a little bit before each test. He drops your lowest grade and gives a take home quiz for extra credit. Truly a great guy!
He has his own online textbook & all of your notes are in there. 5 tests (final is 5th) & 10 quizzes + 1 bonus quiz. Study harder than usual for this class because lots of people have dropped it. It's like a here's the work and do the tests/quizzes type of class. If you take really good notes, then you'll do fine!
I heard good things about his lectures but due to the COVID epidemic my experience wasnt all that great. You HAVE to take notes from the book there is no other way to pass the tests or quiz if you dont take notes from each page of the chapters. the questions on the quizzes and tests were really specific meaning you would need to note everything.
I've heard he gives good lectures in person, but being online with COVID-19 has been a completely different experience. You are assigned several pages of reading from the textbook and then are given a quiz or a test. There are barely any aids beyond the textbook. Tests have specific questions that are worded poorly. Wouldn't recommend his class!
He wrote the textbook, which is awesome, but it can be annoying having to read a chapter a week. Only grades quizzes and tests. Has an SI and she is amazingggg. Go to her sessions and it will help your grade so much. Tests are hard but if you study and go to the SI Sessions you will be fine. Would take again.
He wrote his own textbook so the answers on quizzes are directly from that however many of the answers are purely his opinion and he basically will tell you "you're wrong because I'm right". He also made taking tests and quizzes a pain having them only be open for a few hours. Not a very helpful professor wouldn't recommend. very hard to get a B.
I took his class online and I got high C's on 3/5 of the tests, and an A and a B. I got out with a B. He uses a points system online so keep that in mind. The textbook is written by him so the material was very difficult to learn/understand. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone. Very dry communication as well.
Took him online, maybe hes great in person, but he can't teach online. Quizzes every week that are pretty easy. Hard tests. Buy "his" textbook, which gives you the answers to the test. To pass the tests, especially the final, read the chapters 3 times over, the test is on really specific parts of the book. Limited study sessions dont help either.
LITERALLY THE WORST TEACHER EVER.!
tests are directly from his book. i liked that he didn't bore us with lctures and we just had to read from the book (which he wrote...) but the tests were full of "got you" questions that were in my opinion debatable. doesn't do extra credit so do good on the tests. i rated low because I'm sour i got a b.
The textbook is mandatory for this class but i never bought it, just shared it with my friend who did. There is only quizzes and tests for this class so make sure you study, attend the SI sessions, and you'll get an A. Theres also a bonus quiz towards the end of the semester which helped.
He is an overall good professor. We had only one assignment due every week which was a test or quiz. Which werent too bad just be sure to read every chapter thoroughly and attend the SI sessions. Also, he is the author of the required e-book (so dont bother looking anywhere for a cheaper price).
I took this class during covid so everything was online. READ THE TEXTBOOK! The test questions can get specific so it is good to know where to look in the book to find answers. Every week he gave extra resources to look at, some ended up on tests and quizzes, so read everything given. He also gives personal thoughts on each weekly subject.
Not the worst professor, but he never communicated with his students unless someone sent an email, and even then he was not very helpful. Didn't seem to care too much. The tests and quizzes were normally really hard, I don't know how I managed to get an A, I think it was just luck. It's not a terrible class but it isn't something you can coast thru
Easy class but the professor is kinda rude and barely answers emails.
DO NOT RECOMMEND!! so I took this class as a dual enrollment student and I can say this is by far the HARDEST class I have ever taken. He wrote his OWN textbook (you'll read ALL 15 chapters), and he writes ALL his tests and quizzes (he puts them in his own words too-so good luck searching answers) as for a prof., he's okay but EXTREMELY BORING OMG.
He is very knowledgeable over the course. TAKE NOTES in his class and READ the textbook. That is the whole class. He is a solid teacher, however, he doesn't respond to emails fast. His tests are not difficult if you do the work, he just has a lot of "gotcha" questions that seemed debatable. Tests were online.
Don't take him if it's difficult for you to take notes on paper. He talks sooo much during his lectures but doesn't really say anything. His "watergate rule" means you cannot take notes electronically or record sessions. The SI sessions are held by someone else and the schedule for those is super inaccessible. His book is a scam.
Soooo Boring!! He wrote his own E-Textbook which you will read every chapter of. He has a no electronic rule in his class so all of your reading is outside of class. Class consists of literally 4 tests. Nothing Else. Final replaces lowest score. His test are lockdown+webcam and are personally worded so you actually have to read and study.
He basically talks about one chapter each week and quizzes are weekly over that chapter. The quizzes are five questions with a ten-minute timer, no lockdown browser, no lockdown browser on tests either. However, you miss one question, and it's an 80. I don't really read the book I just highlight important things he says in class in the book.
Make sure you pay attention during class and you'll be fine, his lectures can get really wordy and boring, but there are some parts that are genuinely interesting. There's a quiz every week + a test every 2 weeks, no lockdown browser/webcam but everything is personally worded so finding answers is tough. The class isn't hard, he's just boring.
This class is organized well, however some of the questions on the tests/quizzes are questionable. There's a lot of "gotcha" questions and you could debate that some are based off of opinions. PAY ATTENTION DURING THE LECTURES, although it can be hard because he can get off topic, he mentions MINOR details that could be on the tests/quizzes.
Never responds to emails. Quizzes are online but only 5-10 questions. You can only take quizzes on the quiz date and only during a 4 hour window so good luck if you have a job! If you're neurodivergent and need to use a technology to take notes BEWARE. He doesn't allow it due to his "watergate rule." Pencil and paper only >:(
The course is a fairy easy course youll just need to pay attention ; However the teacher is completely biased in his talk about political parties so expect to hear a far left democrat go off on rants mid lecture for no reason
Professor is at best Ok. The class is pretty difficult if you are a frequent skipper because tests and quizzes are lecture heavy or book heavy and you don't know which until you open them. Buy the textbook because it's worth it, sometimes test and quizzes are word for word what it says, and they are done at home (not lockdown.)
READ THIS REVIEW IF NOTHING ELSE - most important things: 1: the only grades you get are from tests and quizzes. The quizzes were only 5 qs and gotcha qs.2:Everything is lecture based (and book based),so u have to show up to every lecture (he doesnt take attendance but tests and quizzes are lecture based).so just make sure you pass the quizzes.
Class is based on the textbook, his textbook that he wrote. This made the class a lot easier because his lectures were based off the book. If you go to class and/or read the book youll pass. At least this semester, tests and quizzes were on d2l with no lockdown browser. Loved this class and the professor hes a funny and nice guy.
Don't take him. You have to buy his book that he wrote so it is basically a $40 PowerPoint that expires. Every week is either a quiz or a test (10 quizzes, 5 tests).I took this class in 2020 but I think there was no lockdown broswer. Overall wouldnt take him again.
Bottom line, if you dont show up you wont pass. The textbook alone isn't enough, he has few grades and his quizzes come mostly from his lectures. If you show up and take notes you will get a good grade.
Took the class fall 2020. Class was mainly doing reading then doing 5 question quizzes on every reading. They weren't lockdown, but they were EXTREMELY specific. Taking the class with my roommate and working together helped me pass. I missed a test at one point, emailed the day of, and was told that I was SOL, my fault but keep that in mind.
The only assignments were the tests and quizzes he had every week. From what I remember, there was only one extra credit assignment. Most of the questions on his quizzes were from the textbook, so definitely read it. The only studying I did was the vocab from the textbook, I never actually read it, and I had a low A but couldve gotten higher.
Just don't take this guy. Pretty nice, but class was more opinion than fact. Went way too into detail on non-important things. Quizzes and tests had random facts that weren't useful. Not super hard if you work for it, but I don't recommend taking him.
If you want to pass his class you must attend his lectures. He wrote his own book & his tests & 5 question quizzes are centered around it & the lectures he has for the unit. Take notes, record his lectures, & you'll be alright.
I would not recommend taking Professor Carrico. You will have a 5 question quiz every week with a test every three weeks. The lectures are old-fashioned, and he has a stupid Watergate rule of not allowing you to have your computer or any sort of technology. You'll have to take your notes with a pen and paper, and he doesn't use ppt, he just talks.
He talks a lot and is funny, and all the answers are in his textbook so get it! It really is worth it and it helped me but I learned that too late. You don't have to show up to class, only grades are weekly quizzes and 5 tests (including final) and one mini quiz at the end of the semester. You could pass the class by just reading textbook.
Professor Carrico has very traditional lectures. You can't use any electronics in his class so you have to use paper and pencil for notes. He wrote his own textbook and all of the content for quizzes and tests are from the book. He has one 5 question test every week and like 5 tests, so no homework or anything else. He also doesn't take attendance.
He was a fair professor and made his expectations clear right away. You need to buy the textbook that he wrote, I used VitalSource and you can search up questions/terms during quizzes or tests. No final and does not have to use lockdown. Go to his lectures and take some notes (nothing crazy). He has a no-electronics rule but not hard to follow.
Professor Carrico's class is lecture heavy, but even so, since he requires you to purchase a textbook he made the answers to the quizzes and Tests aren't very difficult, since he writes them. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a chill class in which all you really need to do is attend class to pass! He is very devoted professor!
His class is really easy and his lectures are fun. One warning: He has a no phones policy during lecture and HE WILL call you out. All quizzes and tests are done through D2L and are fairly easy.
Prof. Carrico is an expressive instructor who has somehow made the American Government course NOT mind-numbingly boring. 1-2 quizzes per unit, doesn't have a final, comedic, overall cool guy. Only con is that he has a no electronics rule, so you have to take notes on paper. Attendance isn't mandatory but the lectures are important.
Carrico was the best professor I have ever had. He loves the subject, he will answer any questions, and he makes it so easy to understand. The only way to fail this class is to not do the work. The workload is extremely light, just weekly quizzes and some tests. The tests are easy, but you will still learn so much from him. Great professor really.
Quizzes/tests are everything for ur grade and very short, u need to know the answers.Makes lectures fun and they go by kinda fast.Doesn't answer emails all the time.actually read the chapters and study. For lectures, write everything down. difficulty level is 6/10(10 hardest). not a bad class at all to me
Honestly he's a great professor, gives basically no work except for weekly tests and quizzes, just make sure to copy his notes in class and you'll be fine.
By far my favorite class I have ever taken. You will have a quiz every week and a test every three weeks so not many assignments. But it is all open note. Fair warning, he does not allow any technology in class, but if you can get past that I would 100% take his class. Lectures are entertaining and made me genuinely enjoy the class.
Great Professor, very understand and helpful. 10/10 lectures, just take notes on everything. Also the questions are pulled out of the textbook so just read it for easy 100s on everything.
He's funny, and the class is all lecture-based. There's a weekly quiz and a test every few weeks. Do the work. The textbook and the class each provide details that the other sometimes doesn't, so both are really helpful for texts and quizzes, which are all online with no lockdown. If you miss class, the textbook is even good to catch up.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but I went to the lectures because they were interesting, enjoyable, and helpful on quizzes and tests. The quizzes and tests do have some pretty specific questions, but you're allowed to use the textbook on all of them. There is also a bonus assignment which isn't too tough. I'd recommend taking the class.
I don't know y'all, I'm taking his class online and so far is pretty hard for me since there is no lecture videos than just reading the textbook. Taking notes helps a lot, quiz have so much questions in a bit of time. He manage the grade system by points.
I really enjoyed his lectures. You can tell he knows what he's talking about, and I actually chuckled at his jokes a few times throughout the semester. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives really good notes that are almost copy paste to the quizzes and exams. If you go to class, you'll pass. Highly recommend!
He is very funny and entertaining. His whole class is lectures (with little on board) so I just sit while listening to him speak. 1 quiz or test per week but they are very easy if you listen. These are the only grades plus you do them on your own time (no lockdown). My fav class and I dont even like POLS.
If you take this course, I recommend going to class and listening to the lectures. The course is easy if you read the textbook and take notes during class. I liked listening to the lectures because he makes it entertaining and I don't even like POLS, but he just made it enjoyable.
Professor Carrico's class is manageable if you stay on top of the textbook reading and take thorough notes in lectures. I found unstuckstudy and the bonus assignment helpful for preparing. Overall, a solid class option.
If American government or history is an interest of yours, PLEASE TAKE HIS CLASS. Prof. Carrico has a wealth of knowledge on the subject, and his lectures are very easy to follow. As for getting a good grade, the only graded items are quizzes and tests which cover lecture material. As long as you pay attention and take notes, it is an easy A.
He wasn't a terrible professor, but his teaching style is bad. I struggled on the quizzes and tests. I went to the SI sessions to help me, but I was still struggling. Some of the stuff on quizzes and tests had questions we never talked about in class. He does not allow devices in his class which made it even more difficult. I do not recommend him.
He is very nice but depending on learning style he can be hard to follow. He talks all of class without a pwrpnt just vocab on the board. Your whole grade comes from quizzes and tests. The quiz have 5 questions and tests around 35. Textbook was referred to and i do recommend but definitely not vital to your grade. Overall hes great just be prepared
He is a really great professor and I really enjoyed his class! Participation is not taken and quizzes and tests are open and done online outside of class. Pretty much an easy A.
You won't go wrong with taking Professor Carrico. A Minor quiz every week (10 questions) up until the test (about 35 questions). NO lockdown browser ;) He is very knowledgeable in the subject and can help you understand our government as a whole. Having a good professor, especially for this subject, will benefit your grade. Also attend class!!!
You won't regret taking him- one quiz or test every week. Quizzes are very minor. He wrote his own textbook so that's helpful. Definitely knows what he's talking about, and loves teaching it. You're only graded on those tests and quizzes.
Only grades come from tests and quizzes. He explains the base of the topic in class but theres also a good bit of info that comes from online and personal research. Sometimes would go off topic. Attending class helps with your grade but even then there is still struggle.
If you are going to take American Gov. Take him! Although he is pretty old fashioned and only likes using pen and paper his lectures are really entertaining. He wrote the book we used and he is really knowledgable about everything. Weekly quizzes but very short and easy. By far one of the best professors I have had so far.
This class is pretty heavy content-wise. There is a lot to study, but all the assignments were open-note and open-book. That makes it easier, but the assignments are timed, so don't assume you can look everything up. He's a great professor and a marvel fan. There was also tons of help from SI's.
He is a very knowledgeable guy and knows how to teach, now the issue is the powerpoint only consisted of about 5 vocab words and we went from there. Defiantly not my learning style, but a ton of help from the SI and test/quizzes were open note. There was a quiz or test at the end of every week. There is a strict no electronics policy in his class.
You have to attend his class because none of the work is online and he just writes on a blank sheet of paper and just talks about it in class and normally just one word so you get the summarize of yourself he has no PowerPoint or anything to make up just a textbook online.
Very easy class. No hw but once a week you have an open note online quiz/ test which you can take at home. Don't really have to attend class unless you want to but he just straight lectures and honestly it's boring. Honestly I would just take it online but if you want to take it in person take it with him. It is a guaranteed A.
easy class with all quizzes, tests, midterm, and final all being online (no lockdown). Main info is from paper he shows in class with the main topics covered. NO ELECTRONICS ALLOWED. he has an online textbook that you can get along in the course without reading but I'm sure it gives a better understanding. VERY EASY A.
Guy is pretty funny, first day of class he walked in the room blasting deftones and wearing cargo shorts and a sun shirt. it is pretty apparent he is passionate about what he teaches, his style of teaching isn't my favorite but you don't need to show up to class to get a decent grade. lots of quizzes and tests but they pretty easy.
Absolutely loved this guy! He is passionate about what he does. While the lectures can be boring at times it's still interesting in ways. He makes it know that there are NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ALLOWED and will call you out. Funny guy and loved taking his class 10/10 would take again!
He assigns weekly quizzes based on the lectures but they're all on d2l after class and they're due the next day at 11:59 pm (tests are like that too). The information is in the textbook that he wrote but showing up makes it easier to understand. The lectures are captivating and he's really funny. Easiest class i've ever taken.
There was a bonus quiz that the professor offered towards the end of the semester. And overall the class wasn't hard. It was the same schedule every week where you either take a quiz or a test that goes over the information in the textbook. The one thing that I did not like about this professor is that he did not respond to my emails.
The class was fine. The lectures were reasonably entertaining and nothing about the course was particularly difficult. No electronics were allowed so my hand definitely hurt from taking notes. The lectures were well paced and structured. One quiz/test a week with no late submissions or make-up opportunities. The textbook is really good though.
