He sucks...dont take him.
not simpethetic to any student. I don't think he likes teaching. He needs to find a different profession.
Though very challenging-- I personally enjoyed his class. I can understand why some people wouldn't like that class, its hard. But if you get to know the the teacher, and read the material... you'll be fine.

loved the class!
He takes time to explain everything well. Sometimes the class gets long, but overall it's a blast.
This is a person you can tell loves to teach. Anyone who sleeps in his class is someone who is destined to read second grade material all their lives.
Not much direction, but overall was good
I took World Literature. The book selection isn't that wordly. It's classical lit. I think that Mr. Clark is wanting to create a Classical Lit class and have world lit be truly worldly. Sometimes he babbles (he's sure a talker) and he claims he's up for student input, but many students seem intimida
Excellent teacher. Very helpful for students who need feedback on their writing style. Always willing to help and clear with expectations.
He's the best English teacher I never had! --NV--
Any student who complains about his class really just doesn't give a damn about education or they want everything handed to them on a platter. He is fair and is 100 percent for the student. If you like to sleep in class or mommy pays for your education then this might not be for you.
Gary Clark is a very interesting teacher. I really don't like English classes that much but there was never a dull moment in his class. He is a very nice guy and a great teacher. I actually enjoyed writing some of the papers in his class. He made english as fun as it can possibly ever be. I highly reccomend Gary Clark.

Great teacher--so willing to go above and beyond to help his students. five thumbs up for this man!!!!!!
Has a dynamic personality, his lectures seem like theatre productions at times. He has a tendency to get off topic and repeat himself, but if he didn't do this he wouldn't have time for his funny rants. As a result, he gets behind and either rushes through things or goes really slow through the material. Grading style is kinda harsh, not too bad.
one word. BOREING!!!!!!!!!!!1
His grading scale is tough because he doesnt want to baby people, he wants them to learn from their mistakes. His passion is to teach, and said himself that he couldnt imagine doing anything else. He is a good person, and doesnt mind just sitting around and talking to students.
Mr.Clark is an awesome teacher! He is funny, good looking, and knows his stuff all the way. You should be well prepared when joining the discussion.
Gary is the Best English teacher
Mr. Gary Michael Clark is the best teacher I have had in 14 years of education. I absolutely LOVE him! You would be sorry if you didn't take him! He's funny, distracted, honest, and very fair. His grading is simple: each paper is worth 100 points. I learned so much about how to write an excellent paper, and I learned about Chile and Argentina.
Prof. Clark is an excellent teacher! He is funny, animated, and has a tendency to ramble but his stories are great. I took an accelerated course that was going on summer 09 and it was hectic but he is lenient if you show good cause. If a class is offered by him, TAKE IT!!!!!
Mr. Clark is by far the best English teacher I have ever had. He not only gives you interesting topics for your papers, he lets you choose what you want to write about. He is also VERY fair when it comes to grading group work. Which is hard to come by these days! =]
Mr. Clark is the best teacher I've ever had. He goes over material clearly/in an organized fashion, emphasizing key points. He's open to class discussion, which often goes on hilarious tangents. Only complaint: can be a bit slow grading things, but is very fair. Gives plenty of time to complete assignments. Also, he's good-looking. Always a plus.
The Worst Teacher Ever
Don't take him, That's all.
After my first day in his class I knew I wouldn't like him. He is so theatrical and obnoxious. He rants about things a lot: cell phone use in class, his graying hair, his age, his body, people applying lotion in class, etc. He makes tons of notes on papers that are hard to read. I would not recommend him!!
I loved Mr Clark's class! Never a boring moment! He was fun and quirky! If you like your profs. With some enthusiasim and personality, he is the best! :) And to the person that said his class was boring - you were probably attending the WRONG CLASS! In Clark's class you learn how to spell too!!!!!
Nice guy. I think he is wayyyyy overrated though. He does not have a deadline (always extending them) and he really, really needs to keep his deadlines because I was not motivated to do anything in his class because of it! He is not a boring teacher, but he is definitely not the best English teacher I've ever had.
no...just no. there are better english teachers here. he is very obnoxious and complains constantly about irrelevant, pointless things. lectures are very boring; he goes on and on and on and never stops. good luck reading his comments on your papers because his handwriting is worse than chicken scratch.
It had been 20 yrs since I went to high school, and Clark got me interested in writing. I can't say I like Eng. But he made it fun!
Clark was a GREAT teacher. He really makes class fun and enjoyable. He makes sure to give enough examples before a paper so you know what he's looking for and he's very helpful if you are still confused. He is by far my favorite English teacher.
He is a great teacher. He is very funny and outgoing. Everything he gives you for notes are super helpful, he always makes sure that you can do better on every paper. Though he does extend the deadlines but it help a lot to do better. The people that take this class should have a sense of humor. You will never want to miss a class with him.
Not an intriguing Professor. Sitting in class listening to him go on and on about his life story isn't what I signed up for. Has only taught me to not take him for 102. If you need a nap, take Gary Clark.
I think he's a great teacher. Very helpful, and expects good writing but helps you learn to do it. And as long as you participate, and do what he asks, which isn't a lot, you will pass, and be entertained.
Mr Clark is Ok teacher but not good at all about returning papers. Did not give opportunity to revise paper to improve grade. Don't take unless you are already a good writer.
Professor was nice but took a long time to grade papers. I didn't receive my work back so it was hard to understand how he graded.
I am by far the laziest student, but he never gave up on me. He's a great teacher will do everything in his power to help you pass.
What an excellent teacher! I learned so much and am a better writer because of him.
I had Clark for 101 & 102. Interesting guy, talks about himself a lot, his hearts in the right place, but he changes deadlines, cancels assignments, etc.. It takes a long time to get work back which is supposed to be okay because of all the comments on the paper. I am a procrastinator and this was not a good fit.
I took online British Literature with him last semester and it wasn't that bad. Mr. Clark is super helpful and gets back to you very quickly! You have to read Beowulf and The Green Knight, but if you don't understand it, email him and he will help you out! One of my favorites. Try and keep up with the reading too, it will help you out later.
If you're a good writer take his class! If you're not don't.
Mr. Clark is a great teacher! Although he often goes on tangents and talks about himself quite a bit, if you are willing to put in the effort in the class, he will put effort into helping you. He is far less concerned about giving out grades, and more concerned about helping students become better writers. He's a great teacher, and a great guy.
This class is quite enjoyable for someone who is serious about their education. He will push you to your writing limits, but if you need the extra help, he is always available and willing to give great feed back on papers. If you can get past his occasional story telling (which are sometimes enjoyable) and high expectations, you will like the class
Clark was an awesome professor. As long as you put your effort in and do the best you can, you will receive a good grade. We only did two papers for the class and he gave lots of examples and notes to help you write a strong paper. He was very easy to talk to and he is always willing to hope as long as you put the effort in to be successful.
Clark was a very great teacher. I truly improved my writing skills and he is very enthusiastic about his class. He makes the class a great time and explains everything very well. I wish he could be my professor at Northern! He has such a great imagination and is kind of a genius.
Mr. Clark is really a great great great English teacher I ever met. He carefully label the information of all students' essays, and give overall feedback. Amazing teacher!
Listen to his lectures and you will understand what he wants in your papers. If you don't turn in papers on time you will hate the class. He does procrastinate with grading papers, so at the end of the semester is was kind of a struggle. You definitely work for your grade. Overall though, he was a really good teacher and he was super funny.
Had required attendance and no phoneno outside work policy, but would let the class get way off topic. One day we spent the whole 75 minutes talking about rodeos and vacations.
He's funny. Papers assigned are a bit lengthy, but he gives great feedback on them, so don't worry! :)
Clark is a good Enlgish professor but he takes FOREVER to grade papers which make you slack off as well. He is very interesting but its the last week of class and i havent recieved anything back so have no idea what im going to receive in the class
I took his class 101 and 102, requires essays, and group work. Clark is very helpful and nice, he is always willing to help students out and he gives so detailed feedback to you, so you can correct them and hand in again to rise your grade. I am a foreign student he helped me so much. I got A from his 101 and B from his 102.
Great teacher and very helpful, but my only problem is that he's very bad at handing the rough drafts back so you can turn in the paper. Also is bad at responding to emails. I think he just has a little to much on his plate! Maybe he should assign less papers so people can do them right. I would take him again though
I took Gary Clark for ENG 101 and ENG 102. He leads his lectures on a personal level. Each class was enjoyable. Never a dull moment! He is a relatively tough grader, but he tells you EXACTLY what your paper needs and goes into detail on how you can improve sentence by sentence. You will use your textbook a few times and participation is vital.
Mr. Clark is the best teacher I have ever had. His lectures are entertaining and he is a really fun person. There is not too much homework. There is only the papers and the occasional reading assignment. He gives you a lot of feedback on papers and allows you to revise your paper if you want to raise it a letter grade. Definitely take Mr. Clark.
He's cool.
One of my fav professors so far! He really cares about his students and he's truly intelligent. Sometimes he does talk a lot but it's because he really tries to get his students to understand. He spends a lot of time giving your papers feedback so it's hard not to get an A when he specifically tells you what he's looking for.
He is the only person that I have met where his passion for writing makes him jump around with glee. Best Professor that I have had.
Clark is hilarious and loves to talk more than any professor I know especially about himself. All in all he really is a great professor to take for english because he gives amazing feedback and will honestly help you become a better writer if you put in the effort.
He's hilarious and basically hands out everything you need to put into your papers
I love Mr. Clark! Best English teacher at Waubonsee take him if you really want a good laugh and a friendly face to see on campus.
Mr. Clark is a good teacher. What he does bad is not putting grades up AT ALL the whole semester until the class is over. VERY tough grader and doesn't let anything slide.
Mr. Clark is the best!!! I've taken 2 classes with him so far, and I am in a third one right now. He makes it fun, and you definitely become a better writer coming out of it. As long as you follow his instructions, and listen to what he says, you will do fantastically. There is a lot of writing involved, but remember detail and reread your papers:)
Clark is a good teacher you don't take any quizzes or test so that's a plus! He isn't good at putting grades in though so you don't really know what grade you're getting the whole semester. His lectures can also be really boring but he tries to make it fun! easy teacher for sure! you can turn any papers you miss at the end of semester too!
This guy has been by far the toughest grader Ive ever had. He loves to pick and choose who he wants to be lenient with and who he doesnt. He prefferably likes students who kiss up too him and everyone else is just irrelevant to him. People think hes hilarious but in reality he swears to much and is constantly making unprofessional remarks
I have never failed a writing class but this guy is out of the ordinary. He makes it hard to want to do good in his class because of how harsh he is with grading and personally. All he does in class is repeat himself and waste time.
Gary Clark is a good professor, he is definitely a tough grader but he gives good feed back. He is very clear on what he wants and will mark you down for not meeting his requirements. He is the type of teacher that will help you out when you need it, but you will definitely need to put effort into this class.
Clark's enthusiasm for reading and writing has remained unmatched by any of my previous professors. He's friendly, outgoing, and will put forth a lot of effort to help you learn the material.
Did 2 papers, an MLA and APA style, a group project and a couple reading notes on a couple articles. Amazing professor, makes things easier for you, actually gives you sources to work with for your papers, truly caring and hilarious!
He's a great professor. There were only two essays, a 7+ pg. APA paper and a 5+ pg. MLA. There is also a group project/presentation at the end of the semester. He gives A LOT of feedback on the APA paper which is great. I really feel that I improved my writing and I wish I took his eng101 class.
Lectures were always on topic and engaged all students. Amazing personality, and gave great feedback on all assignments. Would definitely take another course with him.
Gary Clark is my favorite English professor I have ever had hands down! He gives wonderful feedback and only wants his students to succeed. He is passionate and his lectures are engaging and informative- yes he swears we are all adults here, get over it. I learned so much in the short semester and would take another course led by him again.
Amazing lectures. Gives lots of good feedback in return. Just go to class & participate.
Good teacher but a very tough grader. He expects a lot of elbow grease
Mr. Clark is amazing! He truly cares about each and every one of his students. Write and rewrite your papers and you will be fine. His lectures are hilarious, he really brings English to life. I've taken 5 different classes with him and finished with all A's. I have planned my schedules around his classes, he's amazing, take him if you can.
So nice and funny!!!!! very few essays, over 16 weeks we only had three
Professor Clark is truly an awesome teacher, he is such an entertaining and passionate person and you can tell he loves his job. When it comes to Eng101 make sure to pay attention; it helps to take lots of notes. He will tell you EXACTLY what you need to do in order to get an A. Also, he really does read papers.
He's a nice guy and very funny, but his lectures were tangential and I got frustrated by how little we learned. Due dates were unclear and he took an absurdly long time to grade papers. I didn't get any grades back until a few weeks left of the semester. He's a wonderful, respectful, funny person but very distractible and flaky.
I took English 101 from Mr. Clark this semester. I didn't have a lot of struggles with this class, and his expectations are clear. I will say that he takes a long time to grade, as I am still waiting for almost all my grades and feedback. He responds to emails quickly and is very nice! I bet he is very funny in his in person classes.
I learned a lot from this class & I feel more confident in my writing skills. He's quite funny and explains the material well. He's very specific on the criteria of a good paper; therefore, it's not hard to get a good grade in his class.
Professor Clark is a fabulous English teacher. He sincerely cares about all of his students. His personality adds so so much to the class dynamic and he loves to talk with the students. He does require longer papers than other teachers, but he will help you every single step of the way. Take his class!!!
Mr. Clark, being absolutely 100% honest, is one of the best teachers I have EVER had. Professor Clark made english class extremely enjoyable and every lesson in class felt important and entertaining. He has very clear grading criteria and cares about EVERY student's success, I wish I had more characters to prove how amazing he is. Will take again!
Lenient on turning things in, very funny and makes the class worthwhile.
Clark is a great professor. He wants his students to succeed which is exactly what you want in a teacher. Make sure to keep up with your work and also work with him because he gives great feedback on writing assignments.
Mr. Clark is a great professor who truly cares about his students. He is very funny and overall a good teacher. He answers your questions well, gives excellent feedback, and correction opportunities. Definitely try to get him as your professor.
Clark cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. Lectures were mandatory and could be boring at times but if you pay attention and show him respect the class is enjoyable. My writing skills greatly improved and his years of experience shows in his lessons. He is a strict grader but for good reason, he gives lots of feedback.
Super nice and funny guy. He cares a lot about his students. He will always give help/feedback to those who ask for it. The work is very time consuming, but he makes writing GOOD essays as easy as possible to prepare us for university. He walks us through all the steps and helps us along the way. And the lectures are very entertaining.
Professor Clark was straightforward and didn't cut corners. The way he carried himself and taught my class was really inspirational to me. Thank you Professor Clark.
Amazing professor, would recommend him to ANYONE
Mr. Clark is one of the most fascinating people I've met. He's very witty, animated, authentic, and personable. I will say that for how expensive the textbooks are, we barely use them. Also, his tangential lectures are enjoyable, but his expectations aren't always made clear. He has his quirks, but I'd take his class again any time.
he made all my fears and hatred of english classes disappear. Absolutely loved this class, For any new students that have the option to have him, take his classes. he truly wants to prepare u for ur goals and he tries so hard to make sure all of his students succeed. he lets u do ungraded rough drafts and gives an insane amount of feedback, awesome
Lectures turned into life stories and caused my mind to wonder. However when it came to resources his resources were helpful. Just be prepared to have your papers covered in comments. Multiple questions throughout the comments that get answered immediately. His handwriting is hard to read as well. Be prepare to turn everything in physically.
He's an amazing professor and actually enjoys his job, He gives really good feedback on essays and makes it super easy to know what criteria you need for your Essay's or projects. He only uses APA 7 format so if you don't know that your gonna learn that, its not difficult at all with how he explains it.
TAKE HIM! He is one of, if not the BEST professors I had at WCC. His work for ENG 102 was the following: 2 APA Research papers (more like 1.5, though, since you only extend your previous paper), and a group project. You have the ENTIRE semester for the papers, which is a bonus. However, do not wait until the last minute to do it! Good luck!
An amazing professor. He cares about seeing his students succeed and goes above and beyond to help with EVERYONE'S research papers. He dedicated time to every student, so do your assignments and you will easily succeed: a very likable professor and an all-around guy. Does final grades last minute, so be warned.
Mr. Clark is a staple at Waubonsee. Fun personality and KNOWS how to teach. He's improved my descriptive writing to a level I did not think I would ever be at. Try not to miss class because each is important with notes or information. His teaching styles are engaging. A total of 3 major papers for the semester, interesting topics. Would recommend.
Phenomenal Professor. If you want to improve your writing, please take this course. With thoughtful lectures and surplus commentary on drafts, Clark takes pride in his career and noticeably cares for his students.
Mr. Clark is a passionate teacher, but this class feels more suited for English majors. I appreciate his efforts to teach APA, but his grading style was inconsistent. He gave detailed reviews, but this slowed down grading. It left us waiting until the end of the semester to know our grades. I think he could benefit from a TA.
Professor Clark is engaging and truly wants students to succeed. The workload is manageable, and his detailed feedback helps improve writing skills. Unstuck study has been a game-changer for essay prep.
If you need help, he is willing to set time aside for you.
Prof. Clark is a super chill guy but his lectures often lack context and becomes very boring. However, he is SUCH AN UNORGANIZED professor; loses students papers, pushes due dates which messes up class schedule, and has such high expectations when it comes to essays. Don't take him if you value your time & don't make skipping this class a habit...
Gave very detailed feedback on papers turned in but this would push back our next tasks as we would wait for papers back with feedback. he would often repeat lectures from 2-3 classes ago word for word when instead we could've had in class time to work on papers. super funny but just would not take again.
His class is formatted as a single, big 15 page APA research essay completed through the entire semester. Very traditional teacher, does not use Canvas a whole lot, and expect to get your grade at the very very end. I do wish he would give time to helping in lecture time instead of repeating the logical fallacies lecture four times back to back.
If turning in things on time is something you struggle with, he is super lenient with it just be sure you're not wasting his time. He really wants his students to learn how to write papers efficiently, if you ask for help he will help you. Overall, his classes consist of just him talking which can get boring sometimes but great professor.
