Dr. Cox is a wonderful teacher. He is tough... but after the midterm dropdate he is simply the coolest!
Doesn't care if anyone in your family dies, you should be at school no matter what. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! He totally sux!
Hard Class with a lot of reading, but Dr. Cox was very thorough in covering material.
Very helpful outside of class. Clear on material that is on test. Students should know what to expect because of the "lecture" given the first day of class.
I graduated from Gordon, and from Georgia College, and I working on my Masters, I still rank Dr. Cox as one of my top five favorite professors. His courses are very well planed and executed.
I loved his class so much, I decided to take Western Civ. 2 just to have him; even though I didn't need that class.
Dr Cix is a pretty good teacher. He really prepares you for a 4 year school. He is tough but you could benefit from it. He is very intresting and leaves you hanging at the end of lectures.
Very smart teacher. Seems like he belongs at a 4 year college not a 2 year college
This is a hard class. However, if you pay attention and take good notes, you will pass. I do not recommended it if you aren't good at history, note taking, or writing "ids" His test are hard, but can be passed if you study.
Great Teacher!!! He really knows his history!!! I made A's both times. just study his notes and pay attention in class and you will do fine! Highly recommended!! Take him for Western civ..
one of the best teachers at Gordon college. His test are right from his notes. Just study his notes and you will do fine. His test are essay and are fill in the blanks. I took him over 3 years ago when i attended gdn back in fall of 02 and spring of 03. He is tough but if you attend class, take good notes, and study for his test you should doo fine
Cox is a great prof. Hard class, but if you take good notes you'll do well. He's really nice, though a little harsh on his attendance policy. He does let you make things up if you have good reason - I got to write the research paper and take a quiz at a later date when I couldn't be there.

Dr. Cox is a good teacher. He can be intimidating at first, but if you come to class and pay attention to his lectures you will pass. He really has a passion for history that comes through during the lectures! I learned alot.
the guy is a hard ass but a damn good teacher. he actually makes the material interesting. his class is like watching the history channel.
His class is just like the history channel just much more interesting. He asks questions a lot that no one knows the answers to. The quizes are basically from the notes but read to book too! he draws some questions from there as well. Great techer plan to

He had an interesting way of giving the info required to know. His tests are easy b/c all you do is give ID's which if you know somewhat about it, you can BS it! He is a cool guy!!
Excellent class
Very interesting teacher. Gives extra stuff to think about and i loved his lectures. his tests were difficult, but could pass if you study. Good teacher!
Awesome teacher! He is so interesting to listen to. He keeps it from being boring and monotonous. His voice is booming and he knows how to use it! Makes you do a term paper, but also makes that interesting and not too hard. If you pay attention in class and look over notes, should do fine. Acts like hard ass to get rid of slackers.
VERY good teacher!!! He is very helpful whenever you discuss something with him one-on-one. Obviously, he loves his job! Treats all students as equals. His tests and quizzes can be difficult, but as long as you study you will do fine.
The MOST compassionate teacher about what he teaches! Most possibly the greatest teacher i ever had!!!!!! Excellent teacher, I highly recommend him for any person who takes school seriously. But not for those who just want to show up and receive a good grade!!!!!

Take pages of notes, read them, refresh before quiz and you got it. He is very interested in his work. Can be boring at times, goes on and on and on. If you are into History you'll enjoy it, if not you may fall asleep.
Very Highly Recommended. Be respectful! Take good notes. Awesome teacher.
hes an awsome teacher. the best at gordon!! i love the way he lays out his notes and how his quizes are. its like hes so intrested in what he is teaching, he makes you interested as well...for the first month at the end of the lecture the whole class was silent, thats how good he is! P.S. take alot of note and take good ones! because they are on the test!! and read the book and the documents! people say he is hard but i dont think so.
Dr Cox is by the brightest history professor at Gordon College. He is like a walking, living, breathing History book. Its amazing how well he really knows what he is talking about. If you enjoy learning about Western Civilization I highly recommend him.
extremly hard teacher, but for the most part a good speaker
Heard great things & was horribly dissapointed. He got a bad impression the first day of class and gave up on us all immediately(he actually said that).40 min. lectures on how careless & un-motivated we were as a class(on the first day).Repeatedly told us we were "wasting his time".Very intelligent but VERY rude.Wanted to learn & tried. I withdrew.
an amazing teacher. knows what he is talking about. very interesting class, but be ready to take alot of notes.
Dr. Cox reminds me a lot of my history teacher in high school. The concepts are not hard because he explains everything thoroughly. It's really important to take good notes and study because he gives you a lot of information and it's impossible to pass the tests without studying. I highly recommend him.
HE KEEPS IT INTERESTING

Great teacher. He grades hard just because he wants you to learn the material. You have to understand the material to pass anything.i.e. quizes and exams. Make sure you know the ids because they are a major part of the exams. Take good notes and good luck...
Class is hard but very interesting. Plan to do a whole lot of writing on exam and take home quiz.
Great teacher. Gives you every opportunity to succeede. Doesn't like tardiness. Gives 3 take home quizzes that reflect the tests
Dr. Cox I think is a nice man!! He looks like Santa but a little meaner haha!! Do not take unless you love this type of history and live and breathe it!! It is very overwelming!! I barely passed with a C and I am usually an A student!! the only C I made my college career so far!! I would never ever take his class again!! He is ok but class way to h
cool teacher
WARNING: HARD!!!!
I wouldn't say he's a bad teacher. He DEFINATELY knows his stuff and is interesting to listen to. But, if you have a hard time writing fast, like I do, then you may not want to take him. His tests consists of 15 short answer/essay quiestions. You may know your stuff, but it's all about getting down on paper in time to finish.
He is very informative , clear, and to the point! He makes the discussion interesting sometimes but you have to be able to write very very fast and take a lot of notes. His test are very hard. Im struggling to make a D
He was some what a nice teacher. But warning I studied for his quizes and could not even pass so I droped it. I would not take his class
Really enjoyed his lectures, made me want to come to class
Dr. Cox is a great professor, if not THE best at Gordon. His lectures are very interesting and his tests come straight from his powerpoints. I listened and studied a little bit and made an A. He is very helpful, and will give ya advice any time. I would definatly recommend Cox any day!
ok guys. Dr. Cox is off the chain. He is a very good teacher and always stays on subject. He chooses interesting facts to teach and is not at all boring or monotoned. this is not a class to slack off in though.
He has been one of my favortite Professors at Gordon! He is def not an easy A and you have to study hard but he is a great teacher!!
An excellent teacher who explains and describes everything brilliantly. If you are looking for an easy grade this isn't the right class. His tests are all essay questions which means you better study a lot of you expect to pass
Great teacher!!! He isn't open to discussion or very charasmatic, but very good speaker. He honestly made me love history!! He gave a lot of very interesting facts about the past. He gave study guides which are exactly like the test.
WOW! I usually like History but this guy is harsh, cold, rude, inconsiderate, & HARD! I heard good things about him but DEFINATELY did NOT see them! Spent more time lecturing on how lazy & uninterested we were as a class than he did on actual history. Im an A student & tried but I had to withdraw close to midterm with a D I worked way too hard for!
just take notes and study. everything thats on the powerpoint is on test
not an easy class but take notes and pay attention, if you do the work you'll pass. looks like colonel sanders...
I have never met anyone who knows more about history. He is unbiased concerning religion and beliefs. He is an all around great teacher. Take good notes and study them and you should have no problem. I LOVED it!!
He is amazing. I literally failed every history class I have ever taken and he has made history fun for me and I got and A+. Now this class is not recommended for those who are lazy or slack off each semester. You have to attend EVERY class and don't be late and work hard. He looks just like Col. Sanders! GREAT TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great Teacher! I could listen to his stories all day!
Great teacher! He is very knowledgable. You have to do the work to get the grade. He is kind of hard. His tests are 1 ID and about 10 short answer questions. If you don't like history I don't reccommend taking him.
Dr. Cox is the best history prof I've ever encountered. Knows his stuff and treats students like intellectuals. Don't expect to regurgitate material, you gotta think. But he is fair and unbiased. Show up for class and be on time take good notes listen and study. Great class!
He is a very serious guy, but he knows his history. The class is interesting, but attendance is crucial for those who want a good grade. On tests, 70% of the grade comes essay questions.
Is a very Helpful teacher. Make sure you attend every class. Take good notes and pay attention. Test are semi- hard. Will give outside help if necessary.
GREAT TEACHER.... Test are not difficult at all he will tell you ID question day or two before Test. Midterm and Final are a little more difficult. but the paper is easy. It is worth 200 points but he breaks it down to different stages to be turned in at different times so it was east. Great class. Just dont show up late!! Or he'll blow up.
BE PREPARED TO WORK!!! Grade=4 quizzes, midterm, final and book review. Short answer and ID type questions. YOU MUST KNOW HISTORY to do this. STUDYYY!!! ..class started w 30 ppl and ended with 10. (people drop like crazy)
Remember the Quizzes!
His class is ALL notes/lecture...make sure you take good notes too! his quizzes arent too difficult, you just need to be clear on your anwsers. Dr. Cox is overall a nice guy, but strict. he knows what he's talking about
He's very hard but he drops 1 out of 3 or 2 out of 4 tests. Basically, just study hard for two tests and it'll be okay. P.S. he looks like santa and i loved it!
Do NOT take this professor for history. Expects a lot of work out of his students- and who has 2 hours every night to go home and work on Western Civ. homework? nobody! He's rude when you dont know an answer. Definitely not worth my GPA dropping because of a lousy history class.
Dr.cox is very a very interesting teacher. One thing I loved about the class was the great knowledge to gain from it and he knows his stuff. For me once I understood what he wanted for his test I did great. If u know u are going to lazy don't take him.
Don't take this class unless you are planning on becoming a Harvard student. He is extremely hard. During his teacher evaluation I wrote that he needs to teach in chronological order and needs examples of what he expects from his students. I can only pray that he took my advise for his future students
Hardest teacher I have ever had at Gordon College and this is coming from a 3.8 gpa student. I would definitely not recommend his western civilizations class unless you are a huge history buff. I still do no understand why he is teaching at Gordon, when he needs to be at some prestigious university instead. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Intimidating, but if you conform to his personality you will learn a lot and eventually like him.
Dr Gary cox is the best teacher I had so far in Gordon. He explains his lessons so well and you can tell he has a great passion for history. If you are lazy or are not willing to study a great deal. Do not take him.
I had Dr. Cox over 8 years ago and I can still say he is still one of the best professor I have ever had. He was like a walking history book that brought history to life. I have a greater knowledge of world history thanks to him. Tests are straight forward from the notes but you have to work for your A! :)
i could not stand this teacher! if you dont enjoy history do not take cox. he is very hard and i couldnt understand half of his lectures. boo.
As long as you attend class and take good notes you will make an A. The significance and the dates of what he's talking about, you'll make an A. I took him for western civ 1 and 2 I made an A in both. I wish I could take him for everything. He is my favorite professor at Gordom.
One word: HARD! I loved the way he taught though, he made all the lessons very interesting! His tests are extremely hard! You really have to work hard to get a decent grade in there, and this is coming from a 3.7 gpa student! I wouldn't recommend him!
Looks like colonel Sanders, he is rude, inconsiderate, and unmotivating. Coming from a guy w/ a 3.5 GPA, and loves history, I had to drop, he has traveled to the places he teaches about and expects you know as much about it as he does. If you took him your first semester, you would probably drop out of school completely and never come back.
uncanny resemblance to the Waterboys teacher. Class is difficult, especially for first time students. Take thorough notes and STUDY A LOT for this class and you should be ok.
I took him for a colloquium, but I'm sure this is true for his classes. You will have to work for every point you get in his class. If you aren't prepared to do all, or at least 80%, of the reading, don't take him. Otherwise, his class will be great. He's a walking history book.
IF you arent GOOd at HISTORY dont take him... his essays are detailed essays that must impress him with knowledge or intiative learning..HE has BOOK QUESTIONAIRES and random pop quizzez but its alot of work most people fail his class the 1st time but the 2nd time they pass so if youre good @Copying&studying notes while he talks then take him!!!
Dr.Cox is extremely knowledgeable about his subject. HOWEVER do not expect an easy class. He expects high quality, and unfortunately most people at Gordon have been spoiled by all the 'easy A' teachers. He expects what a real college professor should expect from grown adults. His classes are extremely difficult, be prepared to work.
He's not very approachable, but his class isnt that difficult. The syllabus and the first few classes are really intimidating, but he knows everything and is so helpful. He gives you everything you need to know. I was an average student and made an A in this class because I applied myself. You learn a ton. Not for lazy, sorry students. Take him.
Dr. Cox is neither hard nor rude, he is an intelligent professor who simply expects his students to do their work. He teaches everything clearly but too many students do not want to put in the hard work that college demands of them. As he says often, "This is college." If you want an easy A go back to high school.
If you are not ready for a REAL college course, I would advise you not to take his class. I have taken him twice once when I was not ready for a REAL college class and now when I am fully prepared for one. There are six quizzes, only four count and there are two test midterm and final. It is a very simple class if you are college material.
Dr. Cox was a true COLLEGE PROFESSOR! He doesn't baby you or give you more than you can handle. He tells you what notes to study for each quiz. The hardest art of his class was reading the book assignments on the side. He doesn't put up with texting or immaturity in class. He doesn't use the text in class & I made an A+ without it! He's not to bad!
He's hard and doesn't give you a chance at all. You can have the correct answer and cited he will still have something bad to say!
Dr. Cox is an amazing professor. He treats everyone like adults and will occasionally branch off into a lecture about how his students need to grow up. Take notes and read over them a bit and you'll do fine on the quiz. The real issue is the book questions he gives. Usually there are 3 books he will send you questions over and they are quite hard.
Great professor. If you came to college to be a serious student, then you will do fine in his class. No BS, just a great history professor. Pay attention, take notes, prepare for the quizzes. He will tell you all you need to know.
Hard, but fair. Not concerned as much with dates as he is for significance. He shows how history connects. Work hard and pay attention, you will be fine. I suggest bringing a recorder since everything he says is important. Take notes like crazy! Read the books he assigns; they actually are important. I liked him a lot. Great Professor, indeed!
He is amazing. You can tell he loves his work. He made history class worth going to. His class work is a bit difficult. It is not impossible though. You should expect a class this difficult in college.
I LOVED this professor. By far my favorite teacher at Gordon. He's tough but fair and genuinely gets excited when he sees that students are improving. He taught me how to take notes and how to study. He has a passion and love for history and it shows through his lectures.
His class was a typical college class. RECORD EVERY SINGLE LECTURE. It will save you. His notes aren't in depth but his lectures are. He's blunt and sarcastic, but he's nice if he can tell you're trying. He only helps those who help themselves. His tests were hard but you learn how to study for them after the first one. Pretty nice guy.
He covers a lot of information and expects you to remember everything . Your only grades are test where he gives you a row of words that had little significance and you write the time , where , what happened etc. sound easy ? Not when he did not talk about it a lot . Word of advice STUDY EVERYTHING , and be prepared the final is over 6 weeks of inf
Mr. Cox is a great professor but his class is really hard, you have to really put in the work to get the grade you want. Test always include essay portion. On test ALWAYS BE SPECIFIC.
hardest thing ever, he just lectured in a narrative way but your essays cant be that way because he really looks for you to thoroughly understand everything and have excellent writing skills, the part that makes it worse is that his test have a certain format that you have to memorize aside from the actual course. DO NOT TAKE
I had always heard mixed reviews about Dr. Cox but I took him anyways and I am glad I did. By far my favorite professor. Pay attention to what he specifically emphasizes in his lectures and take good notes. The main questions missed by the class as a whole on the quizzes are the questions on the midterm/final. Essay on every quiz as well. STUDY.
Ok so first off, if you're taking western civ 1122 theres are 6 quizzes , a midterm and final. He drops the two lowest quiz grades. The quizzes are true and false and write an identification. Study your notes and read your book and you'll be fine.
I would not advise taking this professor. This professor moves at a very fast and confusing pace
His power points aren't helpful, he says they are for him and will turn off the projector if he sees you copying it. 6 quizzes but 2 are optional and then a midterm and final. He rambles on about irrelevant things. If you're more hands on Id say do NOT take his class.
The ID's he makes you do are so hard and annoying and he is super old school and lecture heavy. Wouldn't take again
He is a great professor. He is interesting at times, but his tests are not hard if you really study .
