Took Math 165 and 200 with him and would reccomend him to anyone looking for a good math professor.

He is a light hearted excellent instructor that makes every point as clear as day. I would encourage anybody that wants or has to take a math course to take one of his.

One of the few profs that i would actually take again. He is a great teacher wo tries his best to make sure everyone learns the material. He trys to make class as fun as a math class can be. Get him for math if you can!

Professor Egan is a great professor. He takes time with his students and wants you to succeed. Test/Quiz about once a week but all pretty easy if you know what he's teaching.

I was afraid of taking Calculus until I took it with Professor Egan. Professor Egan is simply amazing and has knocked the fear of Calculus out of me. As long as you do the homework, you're fine. Egan is simply gifted at Math AND more importantly, at explaining it, so you understand it!

Totally cool- really gifted when it comes to math- smart smart guy. wants you to be challenged and wants you to know- you're smarter than you think you are! Great Professor- totally take his class- you'll like it.

Calculus is hard but it doesn't have to be and it isn't with Egan. He goes over everything clearly, you just have to make sure you can commit and have the basic fundamentals leading into this class. Exams are a synch, I missed 5 classes due to job dilemmas and still came out with an A-. Don't buy older version of textbook as it is outdated.

Have quite a lot homework but he didnt check always. The tests are very important, rate even more than the exam. But he will give you outline of each test. He always mention the old book even we already using the new edition. Recommend his applied calculus class.

i used to hate math but professor egan is a good teacher, really builds your confidence, always willing to clarify questions and explains everything very well! I definitely recommend him!!!

I always feared taking calculus, but Prof. Egan made it interesting. He's a great teacher, and makes everything very clear. Attendance is very important or you'll get lost very quickly. Highly recomended!!

BEST teacher I had at MCC. Clear about explaining everything and wants you to succeed. It seems like the material will be hard at first, but just show up, take notes and pay attention and you're set. I actually ENJOYED Calculus

He is a great teacher, but he does not like slackers. All he needs is to see your dedication and some work put into the course. If you are looking to not show up and sleep in class do NOT take him, but if you want to learn something from the course you are taking than you will like him.

As far as explanations, those are comments are so not Egan. He explains everything until he's blue in the face!

I dont see how anyone could give Egan a bad rating. He is the best professor I've ever had. He gives great explanations and as long as you keep up with the assigned homework, which is not madatory, you will do fine. Super nice guy too. I STRONGLY recommend him to anyone, especially if math is not your thing.

one of the most helpful and best prof. will explain everything to the T and if you are struggling but show effort he will do his best to help you. i will most likely try to take all my math courses with him. just dont miss alot of classes

BEST MATH PROF EVER. He is super nice and always in a good mood. Explains everything and knows exactly how to answer your questions even if they are vague. I had him last fall and then took him in spring for MTH104, I got really great grades and aced one of my exams even though I missed a few classes. I miss him, he was my favorite prof!!

He is a wonderful teacher, and makes you want to come to class. Sometimes he rambles, but his teaching skills are amazing. I went to go sign up with him again for his next class of 104 but it was already filled. I recommend him highly ! Amazing.

One of the best Proffs I've ever had. Was SUPER CLEAR, and broke down every problem to the core, which helped a lot with understanding math as a whole. Was also very energetic and encouraging. I HIGHLY recommend Egan for any and all Math classes.

Gary Egan is a Boss, he is like a human smart board, he helped me reach my goal of attending the University at Albany for Pre Law AND HE'S A MATH PROFESSOR He is very clear and understanding and he encourages all his students to push for their best. If you can take ANY class with him I would highly highly recommend it.

He is just the best. i have previously failed this course twice. he dosent collect or grade homework so you cant get horrible grades for trying, he does go over it every class though. always avalible for extra help. i wish i was not transfering because i would take him for all future classes.

He was by far my favorite professor! His teaching style is very easy to understand. His students ALWAYS come first. If you don't do the homework based on the fact that he doesn't collect it you will not pass the course.

AWESOME TEACHER!! Took 104 with a different professor who made me hate math & I didn't understand anything... Then I took it with Egan and it was like a miracle! I got all of it! Do the work and ask him for help if you need it, you will deff get a good grade! Would take him for every math class if he taught higher levels!!! :)

All I should say about him is WOW! Professor Egan is the best of the best! I hate math period because I could never understand it, however he changed all of that and he made me want to learn because he was so enthused about math. LOVE HIM!!!

Egan breaks simple math down to very, very basics. If you're someone who struggles with math, his courses are for you. Explains in great detail exactly what you're doing and why, step by step, and every possible way to go about the problem. Says attendance is mandatory, but didn't say anything to me when I started missing a bunch and still got A's.

Great professor. He explains things in the most simple terms! Loved his stories and he's a great guy to speak with when i went in for help.

Great teacher really breaks math down to its simplest form. I haven't done math like this in a few years but he made it easy. Will make sure you are prepared for test and moving on to tougher math courses.

He is a very good teacher! HOWEVER, he over explains topics. He drags on the topic to make the class time go by. If you are a faster learner this is NOT the class for you.

It is obvious that he loves teaching and truly cares about the success of his students. The course may be challenging and he does expect you to put effort in outside of class, but he is willing to meet with you for additional help and clarification. Very fun and entertaining so class time would fly by. Easily my favorite professor!

This class was easy for me because it was all review, if you are learning this material new, i don't know if i would take him. Nice guy though.

LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. By far my fave. Hated math until I took his class and I am doing great! Homework is not checked or graded (except for one short weekly assignment which he lets us peer correct first) so your grade will not plunge if you miss an assignment here or there. Great teacher great person. Study for your tests and you will do great!

Egan is a great teacher. He is willing to break down any problem for any student, and encourages students to visit him outside of class for extra help. It seems like the problems on the homework and the ones we do in class are more difficult than the test questions, which is nice because he does a good job to prepare his students for anything.

Egan is a great guy. I screwed around in HS and had to take 098 as a pre req. He made me actually understand, and be interested in the applications of math. He uses some great analogies to explain everything. Expects you to show up, and study. but if you do you will have no problem getting an A.

After failing math 098 I retook this class with professor Egan. I received an A due to the way that he teaches. Highly recommend!!

I took Egan for MTH098 and again for MTH200. He is a great professor and is very passionate about math. He is willing to help and clarify things. Calc wasn't an easy class but a great professor sure does help!

Professor Egan is very nice and wants students to pass. Weekly homework and reviews thoroughly for tests. He offers extra credit for being present and on time to class. Egan gives students time to ask questions at the beginning of every class. Best professor would take another class with him.

He is very caring and funny. He does not like it when students have their phones out. He does care about his students and he wants everybody to pass.

Egan is one of the best professors ive had at mcc. He takes difficult material and makes it so that you understand. He only really assigns about five graded homework sheets the whole semester and they are not very difficult. The tests are not too difficult either, if you show up and understand the most the material youll get an A!

Egan is one of the best professors I have had. I would have never done so well in Calc had it not been from him. I always hated math and he really helped me understand it. He is very good at explaining tough concepts. VERY eager to help outside of class. WANT HIS STUDENTS TO DO WELL! We need more professors like Egan. Wish I could have him again

He understands that not everyone gets math and has helpful advice for studying and practicing skills. I have difficulty remembering concepts that I haven't had to use in real world applications and he was never condescending or impatient. He does expect you to put in effort & try your best though. Would definitely recommend & take again!

Professor Egan genuinely cares about student success in his class. It is also evident that he really enjoys the material that he teaches, and that makes all the difference for students trying to learn! He was always very understanding of students, and never called anyone out or made them uncomfortable.

I took his Survey of Mathematics class in fall '22, and Gary Egan is one of the best math instructors I've had. He's great at explaining WHY/HOW things work in math, and not enough instructors do that. He's very calm and collected, and the amount of homework is very reasonable. There's one large project at the end, but it's not that hard.
