Professor Gopar is one of the best instructors I have had by far. He always dresses professionally for his students and gives very entertaining lectures. I am always happy to show up to class. This class is called Music Appreciation; there are 4 written tests along with 2 listening exams. Fairly easy, just make sure you show up to class!
Gary is awesome! He's well respected in the music industry and knows what he's talking about. 2 reports, 4 exams, and some listening quizzes. His lectures are entertaining but wont prepare you for exams so you should read (but he gets ALL his questions from quizlet, hint hint). He's super funny and so entertaining, easy A and he knows it! Love him.
Professor Gopar is really cool. His class is usually entartaining especially toward the middle and the end of class. The test is gong to be the same as the study guide.
Professor Gopar is an amazing teacher. I needed his class for transfer credit so I was deciding to take either music or an art class but I'm SO glad that I took his class. He's so funny and makes his lectures entertaining. He really loves what he teaches and is always there for you. This class was my favorite class this semester! :)
One of the best music professor on campus that is fun and entertaining to listen to. his class is by far one of the easiest class I taken this semester.
He is a very understanding professor and makes the class very enjoyable. He tells you what is exactly is on the test before you take them which makes taking the tests fairly easy.
MUS 103C and 105C are Music Theory levels I and II. The content of these classes are not easy, and it will not be an easy A. However, if you have any questions at all, Prof. Gopar is there for you. I once sent him an email after 11 PM and he answered right away. This guy is there for you. Homework help? He's there. Espresso? He's got you covered.
Hes a very chill professor and the class is pretty easy, there's about 2 presentations but one of them is with a group. Little to no hw, tests are simple but the listening test was difficult.
Professor Gopar is an amazing teacher. He definitely "knows what's up" and is the epitome of a hilarious man. This class has three writing assignments but he's definitely a fair grader. The tests are exactly the study guide and for the listening exam he gives out all of the potential songs-so for those saying it's hard, it's a matter of studying.
Amazing professor! I was nervous about taking a jazz history class, but I enjoyed it. Gopar is passionate about music and it shows. He is also very funny and laid-back, not too many lectures. 3 papers & 2 group presentation projects. 2 tests (easy - same as study guides) & 2 listening exams (difficult if you do not study). Definitely recommend him!
I loved being in Professor Gopar's class. It was so fun and every student got a chance to express their love for music. He was always happy to answer any question a student had and his tests/assignments were super easy.
I took a class with Prof. Gopar and he was one of the coolest professors I've had. He genuinely cares, one of the things he said on the first day was that he'll do his part to set us up for success & he really does that. Don't be absent because not only will it hurt your grade but you'll fall behind, learning how to play the piano takes commitment.
He is so passionate and talented that you can tell. He really does go in depth with all of his lectures and I can tell he put a lot of thought into it. There's no homework. There are test (perfect layout). I'd personally take him for every music class IF i was a music major :)
Great teacher who helps you out whenever you need to. Easy class to pass just review at least day before test and turn in the few papers he assigns. Listening quizzes were the only semi tough parts.
One of the best professors I've ever had! He's always excited to come into class, and it makes others excited to be there. His passion for music will rub off on you even if you aren't a music major. I took his Music in Film course, and the class was ridiculously easy, plus it's a lot of fun. I'd recommend him to anybody
His love & passion for music is something that makes his classes the best. I took Jazz History and it was my favorite. I loved his lectures and I loved how relaxed he was when he came to class. His papers weren't hard and I really enjoyed the listening exams. They are not very difficult. He really does his best for you to pass the class.
Professor Gopar is a great teacher for Music in Film. As a person who enjoys both film and music I thoroughly enjoyed his class. There are only 2 papers and 3 tests that if you do the study guide you will pass. Many students expected him to remind them when there was a paper due but all you have to do is LOOK AT THE FREAKING SYLLABUS!
He was honestly the type of professor that I will always remember. He is incredibly passionate about music. He cares about his students!
what can I say about this professor you'll never find a more genuinely humble and compassionate person in college he was the only instructor I ever had THAT KEPT THINGS REAL! It was honor to be taught by a celebrity and educator like him. I would cherish the moments I had in his lectures for a long time.
This is my second time taking a class from Professor Gopar and he's amazing! You can tell he really cares about his students succeeding in class, as well as his passion for jazz music. It makes class enjoyable. Although listening quizzes were the most difficult part for me, there's plenty of extra credit opportunities! :)
he is a great professor his passion for music is something i have never seen. it was my first music class and i honestly loved it never listened to jazz till i took this class and it made me open up to a whole new genre of music. you can feel his passion for music through his lectures, the way he plays its captivating. its a class u will not fail
Great professor, definitely take him! He opens up a whole new perspective of jazz, even if you dont listen to the jazz genre. Very passionate about music! Doable work, gives extra credit, funny guy and it was an enjoyable class!
Awesome Professor. He is very passionate about jazz and will impart the ins and outs of this subject, giving students a real knowledge of what jazz and the music business is like. Show up, take notes, and do the extra credit offers (lifesavers). Always submit a hard copy, even with excused absenses. P. Gopar took my paper even when on vaca. Caring
Professor Gopar is by far the greatest professor Ive had in my 3+ year college career. He is truly passionate about his work and love for music. He knew exactly how to inspire the class, and I have a much better understanding and appreciation for Jazz Music after attending his class. I highly recommended him to all students, new and old.
Professor Gopar is the best professor I've ever had! He works with you the best to his abilities. Keep him in the loop with any situation and he'll accommodate. Pay close attention to the listening exercises that he gives, you will be tested on it! Once you take his Music in Film class you will never be able to unhear the leitmotifs!
Professor Gopar is a cool guy! He's really passionate about what he teaches and is very clear in lectures. He's also very understanding and makes "music in film" a fun class to attend. Highly recommend!
Professor Gopar is one of the most friendly professors I've had and he only wants his students to succeed. Movie selection was great and class was always enjoyable. If you study, you'll pass! Taking this class enhances and changes your movie watching experience entirely and overall made my semester more enjoyable :)
Awesome course, incredible instructor! Professor Gopar exudes music, and his passion shines through in his teaching! I highly recommend this class to anyone wanting to learn more about the history of hip hop. This course is very enlightening, and well written. The class participation was the best part for me! I give Prof. Gopar an A+, no debate!
Gopar is one of the most inspirational and dedicated professors I have ever met. His Jazz History class was both entertaining and educational. He starts every day with a little bit of comedy and sprinkles his real-world life experiences into his lectures whenever possible. His kindness and patience go beyond words.
He was an okay teacher. At the beginning, he was cool, but as the semester went by, it showed that he doesn't follow what he says he would do. He doesn't allow late papers, even IF you are sick that day. He will give you below half credit even if you did it 100% right. Would not take again.
Honestly this class is one of the easiest/best classes you can take. Prof Gopar is amazing and a very nice man. His lectures are very clear, yet packed with so much interesting info. He makes learning fun! Take his classes, you won't regret it :)
Whoever wrote the bad review for Professor Gopar.... ur trippin please pay attention in class lol.
Professor Gopar sent out an email at the beginning of the semester saying his class would be the best class we'll attend in college. I thought it was just a funny joke, but he was right. Despite the class being on Zoom, he cared more about us learning and enjoying music than anything. This wasn't the class I was most excited for but it was the best
He is very passionate about music, you can tell in his lectures. You perform for class to draw the students in. Overall best class so far!
He is very passionate about music, it shows in all his lectures. he performs for the class to draw the students in. His lectures were very informative & insightful. Funny, Relatable Professor and Overall best class so far!
I take this class for my GE but Prof Gopar is amazing at what he does. He shares a lot of information through his lectures and tries to make it interesting for the class. Overall, this class is every easy and you don't even need to read anything.
Professor Gopar is one the professors who likes to inspire, makes his students laugh and is fair when it comes to grading. The lectures become interesting when he mentions his experience with the instruments hes played. He is great at what he do. Take his class.
Professor Gopar is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is funny and gives the best lectures ever! I will definitely consider taking another one of his classes in the future! 5 stars! :)
Quick to respond to email and will even stay after class to answer or help in any way he can; Very enthusiastic about jazz making the class very interesting; Has a great sense of humor, (sometimes uses profanity); Keeps lectures fun and relatable, loves to play Key and Peele skits; Easy class if you show up, pay attention, and participate.
From the first few minutes of the first class, even over zoom, I could tell that he really had a passion for what he was teaching, and it really made the class fun to take. Just a genuine, really nice guy, and a fantastic teacher!
All I have to say is if you have to take any of his courses especially music... DEF take the class. Class was via zoom and by far the easiest class to follow along with. He responds back to emails ASAP. His lectures are ALWAYS interesting and relatable. Lets not forget Gopar is hilarious too! This is def a class i will be looking back at happily.
Professor Gopar was a great professor for this Fall 2020 season!! Even though things were online, he understood we have lives going on and things to do in these difficult times. Hes not like other professors who assume u have the entirely world to read a book back to back. Highly recommend! Super funny and great inside knowledge of the music game!
Gary Gopar is just as witty and affable as he is wise, talented and full of musical knowledge. Studying jazz can be daunting, but he made the subject matter accessible by tracing musical roots and humanizing the legends. He made sure to prioritize our genuine interest over deadlines; his passion for music and teaching certainly shines through.
Hes great! He loves his students and is willing to work with them any way possible.
Professor Gopar is a top notch professor at Cypress College. He truly cares about all of his students and want them all to succeed. It is a shame I do no need any more classes that he teaches in because I would absolutely take any of the classes he teaches.
I took jazz history w/ him. Hes AWESOME. Hes informative, attentive, prompt to answer emails. U will learn more than just history here. Material is mostly from textbook but dont buy book if u go class regularly. Also, he plays a brass instrument professionally so if u plan on bread&butter as a pro musician definitely take one of his classes!
Gopar is a wonderful professor who really cares about his students. I took MUS 114 (History of HipHop/Rap) during the pandemic and Gopar made sure to do his best to make everyone pass the class. I only had a little bit of work to do with minimal reading the entire semester and I had fun every class. Take Gopar if you like music, passion, and vibes!
Professor Gopar's class was sincerely a pleasure to take. He's a very kind, respectable, understanding, and honest guy. Aside from that, he's frickin hilarious, really a cool guy, someone you could really hangout with. In addition, he's got fantastic stories and experiences to share because of his extensive music career. Truly rare stuff! Take him.
Professor Gopar is THE MAN! his class is never boring and he will play for you a couple songs for you even if its via zoom. He expects for you to show up and participate and keep your cameras on it matters! There are no make ups on tests or homework but it is VERY simple to get a good grade so do not procrastinate. Respects to Gopar!
Professor Gary Gopar was one of the most hilarious people I've ever met. Dude was kind of crazy, but his lectures were unforgettable. Furthermore, he is definitely my favorite out of all the teachers Ive ever had. Despite his class being lax, you learned, he wasn't teaching us to memorize his lectures like most professors do. I remember most of it
At first, I thought this class was going to be alright, but Professor Gary made this class fun and really engaging all the students. In this class, you will learn a lot about Jazz music and artist. He also answers email very quickly too. One of the best professors. I really learned something new and I still remembered it. Glad I took this class!!!
Professor Gopar is an amazing teacher. He always makes the lectures interesting, and if you need help/ don't understand, he will clarify it for you if asked. Hardly much work other then some quizzes and few assignments to do that pertain to the lecture. Overall, it's an easy A if you show up and do the assignments.
Professor Gopar is by far one of the best professors Ive had. I took the class for General Ed and learned so much about how American History and Music History is intertwined. Must attend lectures or listen later to learn (no book) but they are so interesting and entertaining. Not a Music Major but taking him again for Hip Hop.
Awesome teacher if youre taking the class Gary Gopar is the way to go. you'll learn much more than you expect.
10/10 would recommend easy way to learn just pay attention to what he says and you will pass.
Excellent teacher. Very respectful person. The class was extremely fun, which made learning fun.
Great teacher, good communication and a very informative course
The lecture is clear and easy to understand. There are a few assignments and Festival of Knowledge (test) but overall it is doable. There are no make-ups for test and homework. Easy A if you submit the work on time and put some time to study before the Festival of Knowledge.
I have taken three courses with him: History of Hip Hop, History of Jazz, and Music in Film. There is a reason why I have gone out of my way to take these classes with him. He genuinely cares about his students and goes far deeper than just memorizing dates. He has enriched my experience at Cypress and my appreciation for music as a whole.
Professor Gopar's class was very enjoyable! He is very passionate about what he teaches and you can see it in his lectures. He always made class entertaining. There are only a few assignments and they are easy to pass as long as you follow his instructions and the study guides he provides. 10/10 would recommend this class!
Professor Gopar was the best. I took him for MUS 127C Music in film and he makes the class fun and easy. We had 5 total assignments throughout the semester that weren't hard. As long as you do them and show up to class you'll get an A. Sad this class was online feel like it would have even been better in person. Highly recommend taking this class.
Professor Gopar made the lecture fun along with the video and there aren't too many assignments. You will need a textbook in this class. There will be an assignment and two exams. Overall easy class.
Professor Gopar is very enthusiastic about the material and lectures. He is by far the most chill professor I've ever had.
You are graded by a few things. if you have an A, one assignment late can bring you down to a B. There is not much work assigned.. A lot of watching good documentaries. He is an amazing and wonderful person. Class is more casual and laid back than strict and stressful. Turn in assignments on time and you'll be fine.
This man is just a ray of light! This is music history taught right. We spend time listening to and breaking down music as a class, and everyone is free to pitch in their two cents. He is passionate about music, as he's a musician himself. He's light-hearted, comedic, and dedicated to his teaching. Perfect professor if you ask me!
This class is an easy-to-go type of class. Barely any assignments, so most of the things needed are graded heavily. It will impact your grade if you don't do it. Otherwise, it's a joy to be in! Don't be afraid it's an easy A. Also, if you're struggling, go ahead and ask him for some help! He will do anything he can to lend you some "notes"
Great professor
Professor Gopar is a really great professor. There is rarely homework, and the assignments that are given are easy. There is one research paper, four listening exams, and two festival of knowledge exams. He does use profanity sometimes, so be prepared for that. Other than that, just show up to class, do the work, and you'll pass.
Really fun class, I learned a lot more about the history of hip hop.
Great professor, great lectures and very personal life stories
Great, laid back prof. not as easy as some make it sound because the listening exams are kinda tough, all these jazz songs sounded the same to me. but theres plenty of extra credit available. be sure to prepare for the listening exams a week prior AT LEAST. good lectures, and he performs for the class with his various instruments. very recommended
This prof is so chill. There were a few assignments and quizzes. For the quizzes you just need to listen to a few songs which are easy to memorize. The two tests were easy. Grades assignments easily too. Cool guy with a cool history. He knows his stuff about jazz and playing the trumpet. You have no reason to not take him.
Hands down the best and most fun class at Cypress !! Always a blessing to just enjoy his class.
Just take him. The hardest part is the music quizzes but if you study a day or two before you will get an A. He might cancel class a lot but I don't think anyone would have a problem with that. There are two essays on your favorite movie soundtracks and as long as you talk about the music and the emotions it evokes you'll get a good grade.
Professor Gopar's class is easy to pass, but he misses many days. Overall, he's a nice professor and the class is chill. Take it if you need it.
Cake walk. Show up, watch shows, listen to drake and go home. It's super easy with simple questions, and tests called "ear parties" which fr is just listening to music. If you going though stuff too he will help you and coach you. I wouldn't take it again cause it was that easy
The most chill professor and easy A. Fun class, makes jokes always, offers lots of chances to get an A. Definitely would take him again if I had to
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! he was so cool and the class was super fun. super easy A especially if you remember the years for the song quizzes for extra credit. definitely take this class if you have the chance!!
This class was very easy and he gives a lot of extra credit. However, he cancels class very last min (once it was 5-10 mins before we were supposed to start). We only met < 2/3 of the time we were supposed to meet. The lectures are mostly watching movies/videos which some might like, but I'm paying to be taught material not to just watch videos.
Easiest A course right here. I showed up for maybe 5 out of the 15 lectures and still got an A on the test. He gives you the songs he tests you on in advance, and many of those songs are popular tracks like Starwars or E.T. Also gives plenty of extra credit and is pretty funny and transparent. Take his class if you need GED credits and a break.
Professor Gopar was a great teacher, he was inspirational and made the class enjoyable/ pretty easy. He shows alot of clips from movies and gave good examples when teaching.
Professor Gopar is AMAZING! his lecture is so joyful and entertaining, he offers soooo many extra credits. Do the work and you will get an A. He is so nice and understanding take him!
Professor Gopar is the most chillest and funniest professor that you can have for this class. He relates some of his lectures to his experience in his career as a musician. He offers extra credit for all his paperwork at the end of the semester.
The best professor ever! Easy homework, easy quizzes (remember 5-7 songs given), and so caring and understanding. His lectures were never boring, he didn't like taking attendance cause it took too long (don't skip class). Lastly, he canceled half of the classes because he was at concerts his students was in. Overall, my favorite class ever.
He is honestly such an amazing professor! His lectures are so fun and entertaining seriously! You have to sit and listen to one of them! you can tell he loves his job and is very passionate about it! He is very caring and understanding as well. Literally, the nicest professor I ever had.
Professor Gopar is an easy-going and hilarious professor. His lectures are very insightful and funny to listen to. He gives you about 1 week to finish any given assignment, so late assignments are not acceptable. The assignments and quizzes are relatively easy, since he always provide study guide for every quizzes---and even the final.
Professor Gopar is hit or miss. He is great in the way you can tell that he is very passionate about his career. He is also very inspirational, talks a lot about his personal life. However, he tends to not be present a lot of the times for class. Can be extremely disrespectful to students. Overall, his class was ok.
Took his Music in Film class, and if he actually showed up to class, he spent a lot of it talking about himself. Only showed up about half of the semester, constantly canceling classes.
i had him fall24. he cancelled class a lot sometimes w/reason sometimes w/o. i would recommend not taking this class if u commute far. hes very nice the class is really fun. i would take it again cuz i wish i learned more about hiphop but i cant due to already passing this class. offers e/c if it's a day before a holiday! (if theres even class)
Professor Gopar is one of the few professors who you can tell enjoy their job and care about their students. He is very funny and purely wants success for his students. His class is one of the easiest Ive taken.many extra credit opportunities.
Gopar is alright, he gives you an assignment once or twice a week, he cancels most of his lectures or cuts them short, this semester he cancelled about 50 percent of class, but requires you to show up. when he does show up, The lectures usually are just him talking about his personal life or is showing a video, would not take again.
Gary is one of the MOST AMAZING professor and DEPARTMENT CHAIR! No matter what your background is, he'll always make sure that your safe in his classroom!
Even though he cancelled class a lot this semester, he is still a funny professor that is also very cool and is good about teaching Jazz history. Would take this class again if I could.
