Really cares about his students. Pay attention to detail, everything is well structured and laid out. English 102 is designed to be a challenging course, regardless of the professor. A rare experience to encounter someone who has taught for nearly 50 years and is still very inspired.
He is a very kind teacher, but he is very hard to get a hold of if you need help. The quizzes are not easy and require a lot of reading to full answer one question. There are discussion boards and essays to write. There is a lot of work and he is a tough grader.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Dr. Grassinger was extremely helpful, responded promptly to my questions and queries, and was always ready to acknowledge my efforts. What you put into this class is what you get out. I have never had a more considered professor, who goes above and beyond the call of duty.
this was one of my first online classes, and i really enjoyed him. i am not very good in english, but i received a B. you have to do a lot of reading in the class, but it is english. the stories were interesting. the discussion boards were long but he graded fairly. i recommend him!
Professor Grassinger made me actually enjoy taking an English Class. I waited to take all 3 of my English classes and Professor Grassinger made me ask why. He had a clear cut syllabus and grading system. He responded to questions I had clearly and quickly. This class wasn't a walk in the park, but I learned something and would take it again!
Dr. Grassinger is one of my favorite prof's so far. He has a clear-cut syllabus, provides interesting and valuable readings, and really takes care in his students. Dr. G was so amazing he went as far as to call me and congratulate me on my high success. For students who do their work he will show utmost respect and be sure to ensure their success
Very helpful and is very encouraging. Dr. G is a very fair grader. Definitely take his class if you have the chance.
My first experience with online course. Dr. Grassinger was available for questions when needed. Gave good feedback on work submitted.
Dr. Grassinger is passionate about the subject matter and his enthusiasm is infectious. He is interested in fostering a love of literature and art in his students rather than focusing on their ability to regurgitate his opinions on the material. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit! If you need Eng credits take Grassinger. Fun and Fair.
Dr. Grassinger is an amazing teacher. I have had him twice, and he has surpassed my expectations for a teacher both times. He is always available if you need assistance with anything, and he is very easy to get a hold of. I have enjoyed every class I've had with him! He is very inspirational and full of energy--and it's absolutely wonderful!
My experience in SPH 101 with Dr. Gary Grassinger has been over all very enjoyable and pleasantly challenging. He is a professor who gives you every opportunity to gain an A in his class, whether it be from the various extra credit assignments that are available, or just from being there to help you in whatever ways he can!
Dr Grassinger is a phenomenal teacher and i am very glad to have had the opportunity to have him. He changed my study habits for the better by encouraging lots of note taking, and giving examples of what good study habits look like. He is very real in a sense he does not read off of a book and he values every life he touches Bravo! Take this class!
Dr. Grassinger is a very respectful professor who is always willing to help his students. Sometimes the assignments are unclear, but he is more than willing to clarify. Attendance is required - you lose 5% for every class missed. However, he does offer up to 30% worth of extra credit. I learned a lot from his class.
Dr. Grassinger is the definition of a role model. He is genuine and an extremely considerate person. I can truly say he has been one of the finest teachers in my life. I am honored to have had him as a professor. Not only did i learn from his class, but he also gave me all the necessary information to succeed and get an A in his class. CGreen
Dr. Grassinger is one of the best professors I've ever had. He provides the necessary tools to succeed and offers many opportunities for extra credit. I took two of his classes this semester and signed up for my third next semester. I encourage everyone to take at least one of Dr. Grassinger's classes, you will not be disappointed.
Directions for the assigned presentations fluctuated based on the time we had left in the semester as well as the work of previous presenters; offers a lot of extra credit but be wary of the instructions as they may be a bit confusing; even for someone who passed the class with a high A, there were times where I had to ask other students for help.
Dr. Grassinger was one of the best professors I have had at my time at CCAC. During his class he successfully engages everyone and enjoys learning about his students. I enjoyed his class so much I am interested in taking the next class up he teaches
Dr. Grassinger is a wonderful professor to take. Public speaking is never easy, but Dr. Grassinger made it a very comfortable environment to learn in. The amount of skills and lessons you will learn from his personal experiences are way more worthy than a textbook! I highly recommend taking his class!!
I have so much respect for Dr. Grassinger. When I began the semester, I expected speech class to be overwhelming. Gary is definitely on of my favorite proffessors. He gives so many extra credit opportunities. There are no exams. Definitely recommend Dr. Grassinger for speech class.
Gary Grassinger is an amazing professor and you should have no problem getting an A in his course. Make sure to show up and take advantage of the extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Gary Grassinger is the best teacher and the most helpful teacher. He replied to my emails fast and would help you with any difficulties in his course. I would definitely take his class again. If you have any problems with the material, he'd definitely be there for you. He is an awesome and high quality teacher. Thank you Dr. Grassinger.
Dr. Grassinger's English 2 course was fun and if you read the material and the instructions, you can do very well. If you have any questions, and it isn't already detailed in the course material, he will clarify the issue. Overall, he grades very fairly and there is plenty of course material available outside of the book.
At times instructions or expectations were unclear, but the class was on point for real world skills.
An amazing teacher . The readings were interesting and made you think about life in different ways. He gave wonderful feedback and helped me whenever I needed it .He motivates me to do better in life and go above and beyond in my future.
Dr. Grassinger actually made me enjoy English again. I took all 3 classes online and he sincerely desired for the students to do well. I waited to take English until the end, and Dr. Grassinger made me wonder why. He made learning fun, while challenging. This class wasn't a walk in the park, but made it worth it. Clearly and quickly responds.
Awesome teacher. He made this one of the best courses I have taken. He even let each student use a textbook for free.
he is somewhat rude in class, but an overall good person. speaks and sometimes doesn't give students a chance to.
Worst English class I've ever taken and I love English. 400 pages of course explanation that cross-references itself, then changes frequently. That is not an exaggeration. You must read every word of it to understand how to complete assignments. Extra credit is hidden in the course documents. Exact phrases must be used in assignments. Do not take.
I asked for help on the final because I had not seen what he wanted us to compare and he told me to just do it. awful teacher.
Dr. Grassinger's classes are very much worth the time, money and effort. The material presented to students is more valuable when the professor is experienced enough to teach tell you why students need to know it. Awesome class.
Dr. Grassinger is by far the best professor I have ever had. He respects and cares about every student, and genuinely wants them to succeed. I have learned so many valuable skills in his class that I will use for the rest of my life. His classes left me feeling inspired and motivated. I am so greateful to have had the pleasure of taking his class!!
Dr. Grassinger has to be the best professor that I have ever had. He was definitely the most caring teacher I ever had he cares about his students. He transformed my ability with public speaking. I wish I could have had more classes with him. He respected me and taught me many useful skills. It was a pleasure being in his class! Highly recommend!
Very helpful and influential. Has a corporate background so has a different teaching style. However, his style, in my opinion, makes the class easier, clear cut, and enjoyable. Only had to do one speech. Just show up and put in effort and youll likely pass easily with an A. Highly recommend taking his Speech class over others.
One of the nicest & inspiring human beings I've ever met, always more than willing to help his students, wants everyone to succeed and be happy in life. definitely going to miss him. strongly recommend his class. he's an awesome teacher with a lot of wisdom and life lessons to offer.
Even though the class was tough, anyone could get an A in it if they put in the work, especially since there was extra credit. I learned a lot of great skills in the class; it was definitely useful. He treats the class like a business where if you do what is asked you are honestly fine, if you don't, you will fail. No required book
Does not care about his students. If you have any questions, he will not give any answers. He just wants to grade your work and that is it. Hope you have a lawyer to help decipher the assignments. He has you jump between 4 documents of at least 20+ pages total to try and assemble your assignments. Don't bother asking for help, you wont get any.
I haven't met many people who weren't apprehensive about taking 'the dreaded' speech class. Gary Grassinger's goal is to change that perspective. You have several weeks to acquire & build the skills needed to confidently present an excellent, informative speech. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Make an appointment or talk to him before/after class.
This professor's online course was SO CONFUSING! I honestly have never seen anything like it. He posted so many pdf, and there are so many little details and it take you about two hours to read the assignment, never mind even doing them. Definitely DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE COURSE. I spent the whole semester trying to translate the expectations.
I would definitely recommend professor Grassinger to any student. He cares about your success and promptly addresses any concerns that you may have. He is very fair in grading and as long as you apply yourself and follow directions, you will do just fine. This professor is on point. Out of about fifteen professors that I have had, he is number 1.
This guy makes it unbelievably difficult. Numerous documents to look at and read. Apparently "reduced the workload" by telling you that you only have to do X number of assignments. Meanwhile most of the documents are not updated so they refer to extra work that you do not have to do. It could be straightforward but he overcomplicates the class.
By far the professor who has made the most impact on my learning. Yes you have to put some effort in, but this is college! Such a caring guy who truely wants to see students succeed, not just in his class but in all their studies and endevours. 100% recommended
Homework was always applicable to the assignments, never an overwhelming amount. His speech 101 class is an easy A (AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW HIS DIRECTIONS.) His lectures can be wordy, but they are interesting. As a person he is kind considerate and understanding; he wants to help you succeed in class and life. You will be a better speaker.
Dr. Grassinger treated all students fairly. He brings a real world perspective and he tries to offer many opportunities for students to earn extra credit. Also, he was very generous when offering constructive criticism. He expects respectful behavior in his classroom but leads by example.
Dr. Grassinger was hands down the most inspirational professor I have ever had. His advice alone and the way he would put things in perspective truly helped me to look at the world from a different angle.
Absolutely amazing! The class is not easy, but professor gives a lot of time to complete the assignments. He gives an opportunity to earn some extra credit as well. Thank you!
Dr. Grassinger is an amazing professor. He truly cares about each individual student. You will not regret taking his class. He is very nice and offers extra credit in his speech classes. Be prepared to learn and be inspired.
There really are some great professors at CCAC. Dr. Grassinger takes the cake, though. He is the most affirming professor I learned from, and I seek to go beyond what I could ever imagine because he took the time to build me up. As a communications professor, he knows the power of words, and I am exceedingly grateful he wields them so well.
Easily the best professor I've had in my post-secondary education. Inspirational, strives to make everyone in his classes not only better speakers, but better people as well. Work is not difficult, if you put care and attention into it. Would recommend to every student.
I gave this professor an "Easy A" class difficulty score because the workload is very manageable with lots of time to get your assignments finished. He offers extra credit options and reduces the student workload expectation. I love that the class focuses on pop culture subjects. Just be meticulous in reading his notes and instructions, great guy!
As others have indicated, there are dozens of pages of convoluted instructions in his online class. You will spend more time trying to understand instructions than actually doing work for the class. I would highly recommend not taking his class online.
While his instructions may seem like overkill, one could never say they do not know what is expected of them for his class. He promptly replies to emails and gives very detailed feedback on submissions, which is incredibly helpful if you are an older student returning to higher education. I would highly recommend his class!
Dr. Grassinger as an individual is a very polite, well spoken man that just about anyone can get along with and enjoy having a conversation with. As a professor however, I found him to be very long-winded in his lectures, and the majority of his lectures were all based upon his personal success story. Projects were also very vague.
One of the best professors I have taken at CCAC. Really cares about his students and making sure we really understand all he teaches
I spent much more time trying to decipher this professor's convoluted and extremely redundant syllabus much more than I had reading the book or improving my speech. It is an easy A if you take the time to translate his expectations, but if you are looking for guidance to sincerely improve your public speaking and learn, I would take someone else.
He must be a lawyer as well as a Dr. as his class instructions are absolutely impossible to follow. I challenge anyone to make heads or tails of his out of date compilation of convoluted instructions. I have spent more time trying to decipher his instructions and actually for the course. I am NOT KIDDING. His directions seem encrypted.
Dr. Grassinger's heavily-worded syllabus did have me laughing in astonishment on the first day, but if you follow his precise directions and make an honest effort, you will absolutely do fine. He is very quick to answer questions, and super encouraging.
I took both ENG 101 and ENG 102 from Dr. Grassinger. There is plenty of time to complete all assignments, however it is best if you do not wait until the last minute. He is very thorough in his instruction so do not be overwhelmed by them. I found the extra credit to be worth the time to do! Great teacher who cares about his students!
In terms of instructing, he's a great teacher. In terms of teaching, it's leaving way more to be desired. It seems that he is really looking to remove some human element to his teaching; leaving most of it to his dense forest of documents full of self-indulgent language, fit only to put his overbearing dialect to the test .
One of the best teaches I ever had. I'm not so great with my public speaking skills before joining this course at CCAC but now I'm proud to say that I improved my skills and I'm completely surprised about my own presentation which went very well. This has been possible because of professor's guidance and continuous feedback throughout the course.
Dr. Grassingers SPH 101 is a great introductory class for those who have never had to speak in front of a group. It can be difficult for those who tend to procrastinate and wait to do all assignments at once, but this will teach you to self-motivate, set self-deadlines, and become a more responsible adult. Very understanding and caring to students
At first I hated it and then once completed I appreciated it. The amt. of info posted is intimidating and overwhelming at first. Go through everything 2-3 times, thoroughly and you will find that things are repeated often but VERY CLEAR if you take the time to go through his directions. THIS IS AN EASY A++++++ if you put in a little time up front!
Dr Grassinger has a very organized English Comp 102 online course. Course is updated with an announcement weekly. Workload is reasonable and readings are interesting. Assignment due dates are more than reasonable. Dr Grassinger reapsonds to emails and is polite.
He is very fair but he is very confusing for online courses. He sends emails that are a mile long and you have to comb through the assignments to understand what he wants. If you can figure it all out, you'll be fine. In the end, I spent more time trying to figure out what I had to do than actually doing it but he was very fair and grades fairly
By far the most confusing, pretentious professor I have ever had in my life. You will spend several hours trying to decipher his instructions that might as well be in hieroglyphics, and don't even think about emailing him with questions. He insists that, because he is such an amazing professor (I AM SERIOUS), you have no excuses for your confusion!
Although this class is probably one of the easiest courses to pass as there are very few assignments with only two due dates, I most definitely would not take it again. He is ridiculously pompous and his absurdly long emails and modules are unnecessary. He was utterly pretentious and arrogant in his email replies to me. Do not recommend.
Really cares about teaching his students relevant skills you will use in the real world. Strongly encourage taking his class if afraid of public speaking. He does exceptional job of teaching students how to apply speaking skills without numerous presentations. Always willing to help students. The most caring professor I've had in college. A+
Show up. Take advantage of going to the plays early in the semester. Participate in class discussions. Easy A. Great teacher
I always avoided oral communication because I have stage fright. Taking Professor Grassinger's speech class online was way better than attending class in school. He gave really good detailed instructions and good feedback on projects and papers. I'd recommend taking his class. As long as you do the work and follow directions you get a good grade.
Dr. Grassinger is a wonderful professor. His classes where clear but challenging at times. I appreciate that he made me work for my A grades. Not only did he provide great feedback on my assignments, he even wrote a great recommendation letter which helped me get accepted into the Savannah College of Art and Design Elearning BFA program.
I selected easy A because Dr. Grassinger provides you with clear, thorough instructions on how to move through and succeed in class. His online courses are unlike any I have taken before that usually follow the read a chapter, take a quiz format. The assignments are interesting and extra credit is available. Wonderful instructor all the way!
This was the first online class I signed up for after being out of school for 20 years. When I received the ten page instruction email I was so overwhelmed and confused I decided to drop the class. Not a good first impression for someone returning to class after so many years.
Very stressful but he grades fairly. The "walls of text" in his online classes are confusing but if you manage to turn in your assignments you can pass. Seems like a nice teacher with well paced classes.
Great instructor. He is fair with grading. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
At first I thought I was going to fail the class because I completely failed to read the course expectations. I took a deep breath went back and read the instructions twice God that was so useful. The class is a college level class, a student will need to know how to read and follow basic directions. One of the Best teacher at CCAC hand down.
I simply asked him when the midterm date was for late start classes and he said out of his 190+ students I was the only student to ask such a question and that he spent "1,000+ hours making the class crystal clear." He also gave a 20 page syllabus front and back, thirty page assignments packet back and front, email that unnecessarily lengthy(etc.)
Greatest teacher ever, I have learned a lot from him. Not just how to become a better speaker, but how to become a better man in real life as well. My advice to all of the students to take his class and believe me you wont regret it. Thank you!
Don't get freaked out by the 10 page emails or instructions. Just read carefully and follow his directions and the class is a breeze. He was very reasonable with me when I had blackboard issues. Dr G is a prof that doesn't want to assign busy work, as long as you can be independent.
He is the best professor I have ever had. He is diligent in his teaching methods and very caring. He honestly made me as a student feel cared about in the course and understood and help in any way he could so that I could get the grade I deserved. If you ever have the chance to take one of his courses i highly suggest it because you wont regret it.
Dr. Grassinger is one of the best teachers! Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but he also cares about every single student. It is not a difficult class as long as you listen and participate. He is all about your success in the class and he is very generous with extra credit opportunities. You will learn a lot and he tells great stories!
Lots of documentation for all assignments, so be prepared to read. As long as you read through that stuff and do your due diligence, focusing on what Mr. Grassinger tells you is important for your grade, you will do a fine job. I've had him for two classes and both are structured the same. It is easy to process. Great guy, really recommend.
Dr. Grassinger in one word is Inspirational all around. I have never met a more godly, humble, and honorable man in my lifetime. As a Christian he has been a true inspiration to my faith and is an extraordinary professor. I wish this site didn't restrict the length of the reviews, as I could write pages of why he is such an amazing professor!!!!
The course matter is interesting and Dr. Grassinger is a fantastic instructor. He is very knowledgeable, engaging and always communicates things in a clear way. Being able to be taught by someone who knows and cares about the material so much is a blessing. He is the best. I would strongly recommend this professor to any other student.
I had this class online and once you get past the announcements and paper directions, you'll find that this class is very easy! I had 4 assignments in total and if you read the directions and announcements thoroughly, you will have a guaranteed A.
A lot of reading, but it is a communications class so... no big deal to me. Sifting through the work instructions to find the Easter eggs was kind of fun. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Quick to answer emails and answer questions. Put in the work you are asked and he is more than fair. Very positive and gives great feedback!
Definitely would not recommend or take the class again. Absolutely atrocious. Very arrogant. Redundant and absurd amount of reading for 100 level course. My last course I needed for graduating and receiving my bachelors degree. Do anything else before taking this class.
Dr Grassinger definitely cares about your success. All you have to do is be accountable and try and you will get an A. If you don't try and don't show up, you might not pass. But he does give many opportunities for extra credit. He just wants you to show him that you are getting something to apply to the real world from his class.
Dr. Grassinger is an amazing professor! He is always willing to help answer questions, gives great direction, and provides speech/communication techniques that I will absolutely use in the future. He is fair in his grading, although some assignments tougher than others. I would ABSOLUTELY take another of his courses!
Dr. Grassinger is a professor unlike any other. He structures his class in a way that will be the most beneficial to you in the real world. His class is the opposite of the status quo of just getting through a class for an easy A. Dr. Grassinger provides the tools and SKILLS needed to be successful. While challenging, he's one of the best there is.
By far, the best teacher I've had at CCAC. He truly cares about each student and wants everyone to be successful in the class. He responds to emails/call quickly. He offers many opportunities to earn extra credit. I highly recommend taking one of Dr. Grassinger's classes.
LOTS OF READING! Don't be scared off by the long emails and announcements, they are extremely detailed but VERY HELPFUL. Tons of extra credit opportunities and the announcements cut down coursework. Mandatory recorded speech at the end, but if you practice and do your best on all assignments, he will grade you fairly. Sends kind update emails!!
Dr. Grassinger truly cares about you and wants to see you succeed. A truly kind professor. The class is full of reading, but if you take time to read all instructions and announcements, you will find the assignments are straightforward and extra credit opportunities are plentiful. Challenging but rewarding. Sends thorough and kind follow-up emails!
The way Dr. Grassinger structures his online courses is excellent. You will not be overwhelmed with assignments but you will get a lot out of the course. I took his Eng 102 for the Spring and now I am taking Sph 101 for Summer.
Prof Grassinger is a great professor he wants you to do well. If you are careful and read all his emails and announcements you will do great. Dont be intimidated by the long announcements, just carefully read them they are packed with extra credit opportunities and strategies to succeed by doing minimal work. I 100% recommend to take this class.
Mr. Grassinger made my first semester at CCAC an enjoyable one. He makes his grading criteria and expectations for the class very clear so that you are aware of what is expected from day one. I am excited to be taking his class again this semester!
His online course is an eyesore, and a headache. He claims to make everything perfectly clear, but the way he references his materials, and changes the rules every week with his module announcements is frustrating. It is perfectly clear to him because he designed it, but it has myself and my classmates scrambling to figure out his instructions.
I took this class twenty five years ago and I still use the skills I learned with Dr. Grassinger when I teach a class, lead a meeting or give a presentation. Thank you Gary for the life long skills you gave me.
Here is your ticket to a class that helps you for your future. This was my first college class and I ended taking English 102 and speech with Dr. Grassinger. Learn real life skills in a fun setting.
Gary has wonderful lectures and has everyone involved. It is fun and fast. He makes time fly bye. A strong recommendation for choosing him.
Yes, he does have a long page of announcements that may seem daunting and confusing at first glance. However, if you take the time to read through them, youll find out that the actual work isnt difficult at all! There is no busy work and every assignment has a purpose! I strongly recommend his courses (Ive taken 3). Hes a great professor!!
Though the class seems overwhelming at first with his lengthy announcements, they all pay off when read. This class is NOT hard. You have very few assignments and they have due dates that leave you ample time to complete them. He is very nice and gives very thoughtful feedback. It is simple to get an A in this class just by following directions.
He cares about the success of all of his students, and makes this very clear in his announcements. If you take the time to read through his blackboard, even take notes on it, you will do very well just by following the directions. He is caring, understanding, and gives great feedback. I am taking his SPH101 class in the spring. 100% recommend him.
Dr. Garrison is a dedicated teacher. His assignments are explained in detail, leaving any questions answered. Always offering assistance and support, he truly cares for his students and their success. I had a wonderful experience in ENG101, and I look forward to more of his classes. Would recomend his online courses to anyone with self-discipline.
Dr. Grassinger is an excellent professor. The announcements/syllabus are a bit overwhelming at the start of the class and could be simplified, but other then that, he is a very caring, helpful professor and I will be taking more of his classes in the future.
I am a visiting student from PSU. This is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He doesnt teach or answer questions and refers you back to a confusing syllabus. I have him for an online class and I have had hard instructors. I am pre med. CCAC needs to reevaluate his teaching. My advice for online students is to find another professor
This professor makes this class much more confusing than needed. Instead of clearly putting assignments with instruction in the appropriate tab on Blackboard, he typed pages upon pages of information. He also tells you to one thing in assignments and another in his pages. Very unorganized/overwhelming amounts of information. Could be much simpler.
please save yourself.. i was told this professor gave more instructions but wasnt aware it was pages on pages.. he repeats himself constantly in the instructions and its so confusing i cant even figure out which quizzes to do and not to do.
Awful. Worst experience that I've had in a class ever. He posts pages of so called "directions" that make zero sense. I would not suggest this guy to anyone for any reason.
By far the most challenging class Ive ever taken. He makes the instructions about 100 pages long and extremely overwhelming. The assignments arent bad, however its the organization of the class. He basically hides the instructions in the 100 page announcements. Overall nice person, but he definitely overcomplicated the course.
Honestly appalled at my experience with this professor. He was rude in his emails with me and made me feel like an IDIOT because his CHAOTIC online class was nearly impossible to sort through. assignments were all over the place and his emails and syllabus to "explain" his class were more work to understand than a freaking assignment. TERRIBLE.
His constant Mansplaining created out of control syllabus confusion. Get Out Now. You have been warned!
Crazy syllabus thats extremely difficult to understand stating that class is easy, guaranteed A. Total of 4 assignments for the entire semester but is a very tough grader. An English major edited mine and still got a C. Has no patience for students through email - told em to stop emailing him and to not expect a response.
Great professor! There is no reason anyone shouldnt get an A in his class. He is very clear on what is expected and offers more than enough extra credit! I have taken 3 courses with him, and each and everyone of them has been great! An A can be yours as long as you read and follow the instructions. Hands down one of the best! 100% recommend.
Dr. Grassinger is a true gem of a professor at CCAC! Even though this class was online, he structured it in such a way that it felt as though I was in class, and able to learn critical communication skills that I will be able to use for years to come. He is clear on what is expected and offers a lot of extra credit to help! I 100% recommend him!
Dr. Grassinger always does two things in his classes:He creates a manageable workload and gives students a path towards an A. Dr. Grassinger always creates a workload that is both stimulating and manageable for any student. Additionally, his thorough instructions coupled with the meticulous instructions means that any student can succeed with an A.
This professor may seem confusing at first, but all you need to do is FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!!!! And everything will be a piece of cake. It is very easy to accomplish a good grade if you follow the directions. By this professor providing an enormous amount of paperwork, the underlying message is simply to follow the directions. Would recommend him!
This is my second course with Dr. Grassinger. At first the announcements may seem a little overwhelming, but it you just take your time and read them it really helps and makes the class enjoyable, especially being online. Only having two due dates is nice when taking multiple classes and working. I really liked the way Dr. Grassinger taught.
While yes, there is a good bit of initial reading, taking the first day or two of class to carefully orient yourself to the course brings an "A" well within reach. There are only four projects. Just put in your best effort, take advantage of extra credit if you need to, and you'll have a good experience. It's a great class with a great teacher!
Dr. Grassinger is one of the best professors that I have encountered at CCAC. He truly wants everyone to succeed and gives you all the tools to do so. I will admit I was a little overwhelmed with the amount of announcements and emails at first but once you start reading you will see that it all makes perfect sense. Dont skip taking this class!
Honestly, I think the good reviews about him were written by Mr. Grassinger himself, because they all say the same exact thing. DO NOT take this class. He starts off by sending you a super long list of instructions for the class that make so sense at all and he refuses to help you.
Regarding Dr. Grassinger's lengthy instructions, I have to ask - for an online course, would you rather be given nothing to direct yourself by? It's not outrageous for an English professor to expect a successful student to read and retain information. This was my first attempt at online learning, and I was grateful for the reference material.
I highly recommend Dr. Grassinger's online SPH 101 class to anyone with multiple time commitments. There is no busy work whatsoever and only four assignments due all term. Unlike many professors, Dr. Grassinger offers tons of extra credit, making it easy to earn an A.
Easily the greatest professor I have ever had! Professor Grassinger sets clear guidelines for his assignments and gives material that actually makes you think deeply. If you're able to do so, his classes are an amazing experience. I Couldn't recommend a professor anymore, his online options were amazing for my time and schedule! 11/10 professor!
Gary Grassinger is one of the best professors I have ever had! He is very quick to respond to questions/emails and gives great feedback on assignments. I see a lot of comments about the instructions he gives, and yes they are very lengthy and sometimes repetitive, but he states if you want an A you will get an A as long as you follow the instructio
Dr. Grassinger is an incredible professor with a dedication to his students like no other! He provides clarity, direction, and insight at a level usually unheard of in online courses. If you want a teacher that values your education, time, and overall class experience, he's the one! I endlessly recommend Dr. Grassinger to anyone considering him.
Dr. Grassinger is a type of professor that I don't think I've ever had before in my two years of college classes. Dr. Grassinger teaches something that I believe every student should learn at some point. -Accountability-. How to be accountable for my work has lead me to learn a great deal more than I have from most professors I've had in my time.
Just terrible, impossible to pass.
Class began with an all-caps email that was about 15 pages long directing us to the "Module 1 Announcement". This was also in all-caps -- after copy-&-pasting it into Word to put it in sentence case and 12-point font, it was THIRTY-SEVEN PAGES LONG. There;s not enough space in this box to detail all the reasons to NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM.
Dr. Grassinger is one of the best professors at CCAC. He makes his course sure accessible and you will not spend time on useless assignments. Directions and emails are super long - but super helpful. He really cares about all of his students and makes connections. Put in average amount of work - nothing crazy - it will pay off!! He is the best!!
While I did very well in the class, it was a bit tough and stressful. You will have a great deal of redundancy to wade through, take some notes on the important information and follow his instructions carefully and youll do well. I can not stress this enough, dont be overwhelmed with the instructions, take it slow and read carefully.
I took a 6 week class. It was very intense in the short duration. Day 1 READ the module; print it, take notes, keep it organized. If you do that, you shouldnt have an issue getting an A. I considered dropping the course because I was overwhelmed with his announcements, but Im so glad I sucked it up and pushed through! Be thorough & organized!!
Never clear on what should be done. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
Best teacher ever!!!
This class was definitely one of the easier classes Ive taken. In the summer there were 4 assignments in total with two due dates. You will need to read A TON of rules and procedures in order to receive an A, however if you follow everything (which isnt hard to do) youll get your perfect grade. He also gives many extra credit opportunities.
I am a visiting student and took SPH-101 to fulfil my university requirements. Though it was tedious to read through a substantial amount of instructions, the assignments are rewarding. Overall, I was very pleased with the structure of this course and I highly recommend it to any student looking to further their skills in speech and communications.
This is a true higher learning experience and I feel accomplished. The Module Madness everyone is talking about takes discipline because our minds arent used to organizing info in this manner, I know mine wasnt. Dr Grassingers class will challenge you to develop valuable abilities which employers seek like critical thinking/management skills:)
It is an English class, which is understanding what one reads, how to comprehend, and then use that knowledge to write. At first the email or instruction may seem overwhelming but if you apply the resources Professor Grassinger gives you along with the extra credit, there is no reason not to pass the class and receive a high grade. Awesome Teacher!
Dr. Grassinger has a different style to teach online classes than anyone Ive ever used before. Yes there are a lot of instructions but if you just follow them to a T you will get an A. It teaches you how to think and be responsible for doing what you said you will do. Also he really does care about his students.
Dr. Grassinger is an amazing teacher in that his class is very easy to understand and well defined. On top of which, he wants you to succeed. However, the difficulty with his class comes with the amount of reading you have to do specifically with his instructions as they take awhile to read, but once you understand, the class is way easier.
I took Mr. Grassinger's online class last year, and it was the worst class i have ever taken. If you are ever looking for an online class to take to do not take his! You will spend your whole class figuring out what you are supposed to be writing about than actually doing work. does not meet up after class to discuss topics. does NOT care about you
Very extensive instructions on the assignments but if you read them properly, you will be able to achieve a good grade.
He really cares if you succeed! He makes his expectations clear in his instructions, and points out multiple times that you only have to follow his instructions to get a good grade, and it's true! Reading comprehension is part of English, after all. He also gives great feedback to help you succeed even further next time!
Does a very good job preparing you for other classes where you would have to make a speech.
I took ENG 101 and SPH 101 with Professor Grassinger. He cares very much about helping his students and is very accessible. There is a lot of things to read through and at first that was overwhelming, but I wrote down the main things (especially things he repeated) and figured it out. Lots of extra credit work. Im taking ENG 102 next semester too.
This class may seem difficult at first but all you need to do is read his instructions thoroughly and follow the directions. He minimizes the work and offers a lot of extra credit. I really enjoyed this class and got to write about stuff that I could actually relate to. If you're looking for an easy A for ENG101 this class is perfect for you.
As others have stated you'll spend more time reading Dr. Grassinger's directions than you will on assignments. If you can read and comprehend detailed instructions you will pass this class with an A+. He writes out exactly what is expected on his papers- no surprises or arbitrary grading.
Truly an encouraging professor who wants all students to succeed. A refreshing experience.
I would 100% recommend. I've taken his classes 3 times, each time was stress-free and easy-going! The instructions take 15 minutes to read MAX, he highlights everything. They are VERY easy to understand. He gives bonuses ( up to 30% for essays), very very little work, and gives you weeks to complete assignments. BY FAR my favorite teacher at CCAC!
Professor Grassinger has made me a better writer, reader, and researcher. His "read between the lines" approach has taught me to look deeper and find the real meaning in anything I read. He influences and encourages his students in such a way that not only pushes them to be better, but also makes them want to be better. Which he did for me.
Dr. Grassinger is a wonderful professor. He is very kind and understanding. I can highly recommend taking his courses.
Enjoyed Dr. Grassinger's curiculum. Found this interesting and enriching!!
Dr. Grassinger has created a unique and interesting online learning experience. It will test and improve your reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills without weekly due dates. Instructions and expectations are made explicitly clear and work is evaluated more than fairly.
This Professor has been my light in the dark. He has been understanding, caring and uplifting. His courses are different than most and seem overwhelming at first. I have taken two of his courses in different subjects so that should say a lot about him. Most teachers dont care but he does and Im thankful for him.
I'm fairly new to the college aspect of learning, so when I signed up I was referred to Dr. Gary Grassinger by the counselor for whom I spoke with. The counselor spoke very highly of Dr. Grassinger and I see now why his reputation proceeds him. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Grassinger.
Dr. Grassinger offers a unique learning experience. Workload is manageable. Don't get overwhelmed by the announcements as they are a roadmap for success. My advice is to set aside time to read them because Dr. G explains how to achieve an A. Zero-in on his instructions for each submission and you will do well. He wants you to succeed!
A lot of directions to decipher in online class, but if followed, guaranteed A. Work at your own pace. Only 2 deadlines. Much less work than other online classes. Keep referring to directions throughout course. Prof. wants you to succeed.
Dr. Grassinger is a wonderful professor. He has been an immense help to me throughout his course. He is always quick to encourage and compliment his students on their work. The online class was an exemplary model of how one ought to be run; only 4 assignments for the entire semester in ENG102. Overall, his course was a joy to participate in!
This course was an outstanding one. It was plenty challenging in all of the right ways if you wanted to give it a good, old-fashioned try without the extra credit as I did, but also did not force its difficulty on you thanks to the plentifully available extra credit (should you choose to take it). I only wish I could go on for longer about it.
Absolutely the best class I have taken. Dr. Grassinger's teaching style is amazingly unique. I learned so much!
Dr. Grassingers online English class is built from the ground up to be flexible, easy-to-understand, and most importantly informative. I was not only surprised by the sheer amount of resources provided by this instructor, but also surprised by Dr. Grassingers genuine desire to see each student succeed in his class! Highly Recommended!
Dr. Grassinger is professional and thorough. You get from his class exactly what you are willing to place into it. Do not be overwhelmed by his ability to provide ample space for reading comprehension within his announcements, creating a flow of growth and record of understanding during the class. Working at my own pace, I enjoyed this experiance.
Putting in the time and effort with this professor definitely pays off in the end. Provides plenty of time to complete assignments, making work feel like less of a chore to complete. Clearly states what assignments need to be done and when they're due. Many assignment topics are able to be chosen by individuals as well. Overall, I highly recommend.
His instructions are so unclear because instead of just updating instructions, he will write 30 paragraphs sending you in a million different places that all say different things. He makes things way harder than they need to be. I seriously ended up giving up and just failing the class. I could not for the life of me understand what he wanted.
I just completed the SPH-101 course with Dr. Grassinger. In simple terms, if you follow ALL instructions that he posts, you will get an A. It feels quite overwhelming receiving the walls of text instruction that he gives, but if you take your time to read through it, and take notes, you will be fine. He gives great feedback on your assignments too
Professor Grassinger was truly a joy to have for my SPH 101 class. His directions are very clear and he gives each one of his students ample opportunities to earn an A for the class. He is unlike any professor I've had in the way that he truly cares for his students to grasp the material he teaches and to succeed in earning an A.
Dr. Grassinger is a great instructor and mentor. There may seem to be a lot to take in with his announcements, but it is rather straightforward and clear. He articulates clearly how to be successful in this course and while the class does not need to be demanding, you will benefit as a student and as a professional to give your best effort.
Dr. Grassinger was an extremely passionate professor and he definitely wants his students to succeed. Although the course instructions are a bit lengthy, everything you need to get an A is outlined appropriately. Additionally, he provides so much extra-credit that getting an A is legitimately up to you.
Worst teacher
Professor Grassinger provided me with the most feedback of any professor I have had to date. His on line course is very well prepared and if you read and follow the instructions- you will do great. The assignments were fun and challenging. He really cares about his students success. Offers extra credit. Uses many resources to ensure you succeed.
This class was easy - once you waded through his ridiculous announcements. His directions were so convoluted, he repeats things multiple times, and isn't straight forward at all. The class was only two essays and some discussion posts, but trying to figure out what he wanted for those essays was a feat in of itself. Not worth the headache.
Dr. Grassinger is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. The syllabus does not give you any guidance on anything in the course. There are very few assignments, all due at midterms and finals so you have no room to fix mistakes. The announcements he does are really just him rambling on about how he doesn't want anyone emailing him being confused.
Once you can DECODE what he is saying it's easy. It's only 4 assignment but trying to figure out what he wants in his 4,681 word email is insanity. Nothing makes sense, "be thorough and read the email and it will lessen the work load" but you are literally decoding his email just to figure out what he wants. Also not allowed to email him with ?'s.
reading his instructions is like trying to decipher a puzzle. It is too complicated and left me feeling defeated. Also he will automatically fail you if you miss a zoom meeting. its ridiculous. You can submit all your work, but be failed for missing ONE class. He is a nice guy, but the instructions are overwhelming and do not help.
I absolutely adore Dr. Grassinger. He will make you work for an A, but the directions lay the groundwork for success if you read them over a few times. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is one of those professors that can truly make a difference in a student's life.
Dr Grassingers online Eng102 is a very well put together class and if you follow his instructions in each of the modules he posts you can easily achieve an A. One thing I liked was the wide variety of topics he gives you to read. If you can I would definitely take this class to fulfill ENG requirements.
Dr. Grassinger is a caring and passionate professor, and you will pass his ENG 101 class with an A if you exert yourself. There are only four assignments, and plenty of extra credit is offered. The instructions provided clearly outline what is expected of you once you read through them thoroughly and focus only on the details that apply to you.
Dr. Grassinger has made me go from absolutely hating English to being able to at least tolerate it. Yes, he sends lengthy instructions. But they're detailed, and tell you exactly what to do. In his async class there were 4 assignments and they were alot of work, but I never felt entirely overwhelmed. Read carefully, do your work, and you'll do fine
Loved this class! Great professor and will be taking another class of his next semester! If you have to take an English class, I highly recommend his class.
Dr. Grassinger was very understanding this Semester, as he worked with me on some challenges that I faced. The text was interesting and assignments reasonable. I enjoyed the course and plan to take ENG 102 with him. Be sure to take time and read all instructions closely - as this is critical to success and extra credit.
I really enjoyed SPH 101 and ENG 102 with Dr. Gary Grassinger. He is a wonderful professor and I learned so much in these courses. I appreciate his feedback and his support. The extra credit was always so helpful. The directions were easy to follow and repeated several times so there was no question on the expectations. Thank you, Dr. G!
I really liked Professor Gary Grassinger. He gave extra credit and reduced the workload of his course. I will definitely be joining him in another one of his classes.
The syllabus is incredibly long. Everything looks intimidating; however, once you begin reading, it becomes less stressful. Great Professor!
As I read the outline the first time, I was thinking how dense and repetitive it appeared, but was humbled when he pointed out how its for the learners who require the repetition to better understand. When the fat is trimmed later, it's easy to understand. I didn't need an SPH credit or else I would've gone with him. Great feedback, simple course.
He seems to be a nice teacher on camera but his instructions are lengthy and very hard to understand. If you miss one assignment or one item in your speech he WILL fail you. This class made me very stressed out and anxious. I wish the instructions were more clear and organized. I feel like I am looking through a maze. Do not recommend.
Explanations of assignments are extremely and unnecessarily lengthy. Has changed rubric of main project several times, usually adding more to it. What felt like an interesting challenge on hot topics is now turning into just surviving. Avoid if you can. If you can't, set aside a half hour or so to read his near book-length explanations, repeatedly.
He seems like a nice guy but every where you turn he is saying something different about the assignments. It honestly makes zero sense and he acts like it is so easy to follow him. You start a project and you think you're doing it right until you read somewhere else and he says to ignore that. Would not take him again.
Unclear instructions. Like 500 pages worth of directions. Makes no sense. So stressful.
I had him for 2 classes and got an A in both. At first its very intimidating and there's a lot to sort thru but if you take notes and organize what you need its pretty easy. There's only 4 assignments! You just have to read what he puts out there and pay attention. If you follow his directions you will get an easy A! Plus tons of EC. Great teacher!
His assignment descriptions are thorough, but they're very long, so don't think you'll understand at a quick glance. 4 assignments (for me at least), one due at mid-term, the rest at end of semester. Meet the majority of his requirements, and you're set to pass. I'd write down the rubric for each assignment in NotePad, so its easier to reference
I have taken three classes with Dr. Grassinger. Each class is better than the last. Take the time to read his instructions and you will pass with flying colors. He pushes you, but if you apply yourself you will succeed. Dr. Grassinger is hands down the best professor i have ever had. He genuinely roots for your success and cares about his students.
Dr. Grassinger provides you with very detailed instructions and resources for each assignment. He also provides a ridiculous amount of opportunities to earn extra credit. You literally could not do poorly in this class unless YOU chose NOT to read his instructions! He was a fantastic professor and gave excellent feedback with each assignment!
Dr. Grassinger is by far my favorite professor. He is such a caring man and really wants his students to succeed. I took ENG 101 in the fall, loved that class, so I decided to take ENG 102 this semester. If you have the opportunity to have him as your professor, DO IT! 10/10 easily! He is very helpful and always answers emails fast.
PROS: SUPER nice guy, emails back quickly, wants people to succeed you can tell. CONS: NOT an easy online course, the reading is EXTENSIVE and very confusing. Time dedicated to just reading instructions is ridiculous and anxiety inducing. UNCLEAR and contradicting for most of instructions. bummer since the course itself isn't bad graded by 4 items
He is an amazing English Professor, I believe he puts in a lot of work to help students be successful academically. I really enjoyed the assignments he handed out, every reading had me interested and ready to write. You'll have a lot of success if you read the instructions throughly. Overall, a caring and helpful professor!
Excellent professor, easy to get along with and friendly.
Dr. Grassinger is among the best professors I've come across in my academic career. He is fair, yet compassionate. He provides students with the tools to be successful while challenging the parameters of our minds. I have taken two English courses with him at this point, and I would gladly take any other course he offered. Phenominal.
SPH 101 was both fulfilling and easy! I enjoyed the unique structure. All documentation - down to each and every detail - was provided early in the class. The actual work was not challenging. The key experience that I hope to bring with me to other classes was organizing materials. There was a solid amount of upfront reading and cross referencing.
Dr. Grassinger is a great teacher who really cares about his students success in class. You may be overwhelmed by the amount of information provided to you but mostly it is repetition to benefit you retaining the information - the instructions are actually very simple. Most importantly, do the work by the deadlines and you will get an A!
Dr. Grassinger is a fantastic professor. At the beginning of his course, I was admittedly overwhelmed with Blackboard information, but I came to realize most of it was repetitional to emphasize meaning. A lot of the information was very useful, and his assignment method allowed me to focus on quality much more than in previous English classes.
I am a visiting main campus PSU student. I dropped his class day one of the summer term. The 15 page syllabus and the expectation of not asking questions was ridiculous. I am a Junior at PSU in the honors program and the policy of not asking questions and it is in the syllabus is ridiculous.
The amount of time given between assignments was a welcome change of pace. The first assignment was due at mid-term. The last three assignments were due as a "Finals" packet. As a father of an 18 month old who works a full time job, this offered a lot of flexibility to get my assignments done without the pressure of time crunch! Great professor
This professor is the most incompetent person I have ever had to deal with in college. His online class is a complete joke and charging people to take it is criminal. The syllabus is so convoluted you'd think a mental patient wrote it. Hope he stops teaching for the betterment of our world. If you got stuck with this guy, DROP NOW!
Very thorough and offers SO MUCH extra credit. Literally my only negative about him is all the...text? he has in his handouts and BlackBoard. He said he can't fix what is posted, but I'm sure he very well could if he sat down with IT and had them show him how to edit things. At least he has highlighted what you need to read. It's still A LOT though
Professor Grassinger is a very kind person. However, his online class is very confusing and directions are not clear. I don't feel like I learned anything. The only speech we gave was for the final, so couldn't really improve. I do not think Grassinger should have an online class. I'm sure his in person classes are much better.
I am a visiting student from Virginia Tech and was told to take another professor but ended up in this class. He is unclear, doesn't answer questions and tells you to check his syllabus. Very unclear and rude. Won't be taking another summer class at CCAC. Only one speech was graded and couldn't get feedback or improve
Nice to see some negative reviews- never seen 600+ reviews for a teacher so a lot of these are def fake (the good ones) he is a nice person, but TERRIBLE online teacher. none of the instructions are edited and there are SO MANY. spend most of your time trying to figure out what to do in this class. take anyone else, honestly.
The most convoluted & long winded instructions for a course I seen in my college career thus far. The document detailing your assignments in nearly 8000 words, for a 6 week course with 4 assignments. Asks you not to email him. Just as online courses are not for every student, the same goes for professors.
Very nice professor who cares for his students but is a bit confusing. He tries to be very clear in his directions but gives almost too much information and repetition to where is becomes a bit confusing. However, if you focus on what he tells you and figure out the instructions it is a very straight forward class with a very manageable work load.
Overall Professor Grassinger was a good teacher. He cared about the students and gave us the information we needed to succeed. However, he overwhelmed us with lengthy emails and directions to complete the assignments. He stated that he "significantly reduced" the workload, but the amount we had to read to understand the assignment was atrocious.
I want to say I had a family emergency and he was very nice about this but couldn't finish the class. He doesn't answer questions and says look in the syllabus and no feedback. I went to reschedule and the advisor tried pushing his class on to me again. When asked for another prof they said had to fill his class first. Push to get another prof!
I will say he is accessible outside of class but he doesn't answer questions and doesn't give feedback. He is so far removed from his students its unbelievable. If you want to improve in speech do not take
Ultimately, if you follow the directions provided, this class is not a difficult one. You will leave with valuable tools for communicating effectively and detailed feedback from Professor Grassinger. He genuinely cares about his students' success and puts in the time to thoroughly review your work. Read announcements CLOSELY...take notes!
I am a visiting student from Pitt, and I should have just spent the money to take this course there. I strive for a high level of learning, and when I ask for clarification from a 20 page syllabus that has not been updated and contradicts itself I shouldn't be met with read the syllabus. I am highly disappointed with the education I received
Really enjoyed my time in this course. A lot of his instructions online can be very long-winded and sometimes confusing, but the homework is well paced and he puts a lot of effort in to clarify and communicate with you through things if you reach out. You can tell he has a lot of respect for his students and a passion for teaching.
This professor's writing style is analogous to a hoarder's stash. Unorganized, messy, and far too many variations of what you don't need. The things you do need are nigh impossible to find. Despite this, he practically tells you off in the same document for even thinking about emailing him for clarification. Avoid at all costs.
Professor Grassinger wants his students to get an A. He was easy to work with, the grading criteria was clear as long as you read through all of his instructions, and he is a lenient grader. There were very few assignments, just be sure to read through all directions and you'll get an A. I'll be taking him again for ENG102 and SPH101!
Outstanding instructor! I have a lot of admiration for him and his teaching manner. When you first receive the syllabus for the course, it may appear to be daunting due to its length. However, if you read it completely and at your leisure, everything is described thoroughly. Book is mandatory, and responds to emails fairly fast.
There are only 4 assignments due. One discussion is due at the midterm, and 3 are part of the final speech and are due the last day of class. Make sure you start early. The syllabus was about 50 pages and sometimes confusing, but if you do have questions, he is great about getting back to you. He seems to really care about his students.
Provides everything you need in the syllabus, specifically stating what is needed to get an A, B, or C in his class and even the amount of time it would take you to achieve that grade. Seems super overwhelming at first but isn't bad at all. There are only 4 assignments total in the whole class (discussion board post, quiz, test, and one speech).
You can do work for the online course at your own pace. Directions are clear and repeated many times in multiple places. There are writing assignments like any English class, but they are graded by clear criteria and if you follow these criteria you will get an A. For help, you can easily reach him by email, and he gives really good feedback.
Dr. Grassinger was very thorough in what he wanted from his assignments so that made his class fairly easy. If you take SPH 101 the syllabus can be REALLY intimidating at first glance but everything you need to know is in there. Don't panic when you first open the syllabus. Do the work and you'll be fine!
READ THE SYLLABUS *** It is really long but in there, you'll find ways to get extra credit and ways to work Smart and not hard. He also understands that we're busy, so he gives ALL the assignments and due dates on the first day so that you can do it at your own pace. I did everything in1 week and got an A.
I had a very good experience with this professor. The syllabus and materials were very coordinated and well taught.
He is an amazing professor! Absolutely love him and recommend him to everyone! he gives a very clear detailed paper on what needs done to get the grade you want. He says you can not fail his class and he is correct! It is impossible to fail his class. I am also taking him for English 102. And the class is set up the same way! You will not regret it
Do not let his lengthy instructions steer you from taking this course. I feel like majority of the time spent on this course was reading through the syllabus, which I would take that any day! He tells you exactly what he expects and you get to choose the grade you want through the work you do. Also has so much extra credit opportunity.
This is the 2nd class I had with Dr. G., and I plan to take another. He details all the information needed to be successful in the course - plus lots of extra credit opportunities. Dr. G. provides great feedback on projects, and I have improved my writing skills. Finally, I recommend Dr. G. to other students, as he is a Great Professor!
Dr. Grassinger is a great professor. He personally reaches out to students to praise them for their hard work. He gives a super detailed syllabus, which may seem overwhelming at first, but if you read it step by step you will be able to do really well. He provides many resources, extra credit opportunities, and is always available if you need help!
Dr. Grassinger's oral communications course was very well done. The syllabus clearly outlined the four major assignments for the semester well in advance, and we were given plenty of time to complete all assignments. There were also numerous extra credit opportunities available. This course immensely bettered my public speaking skills.
Dr. Grassinger is easily one of the best professors that I have ever had. He made it very clear from the beginning of the course what he expected of his students. He was very responsive to a few questions that I had throughout the semester. This professor truly cares about his students. The world could use more teachers like him.
Great professor! You only have four assignments to complete, and he gives you more than enough time to finish them.
Awesome professor! He cares about his students.
Offers extra credit, and gives you two deadlines which are midterm and finals to complete your four assignments.
I attended Dr. Gary Grassinger Oral Com101 course and it was easy when I put the effort in, but there is a ton of reading. Once you get pass the syllabus which I recommend reading early on in the semester the rest is yours. I enjoyed he allows for students to ultimately decide on the grade they want to work towards. Definitely recommend.
Explains how the entire class will function from the very beginning of course and personally reached out to me numerous times to congratulate me on my work. Extra credit opportunities are also plentiful throughout the only 4 assignments you need to complete.
Dr. Grassinger is hands down, the best professor I have ever had. Sure, the syllabus was detailed and lengthy, but it is only to ensure student success. He gives his students the option to choose what grade they want to receive, based on how much work they put into the assignments. I highly recommend his course to everyone!
Absolutely not easy going. I laterally cried out of frustration when i tried to just read his syllabus, too lengthy. I do not recommend.
Dr. Grassinger is a detailed professor that will provide you with everything you need to do well in his class. He includes a lengthy syllabus that explains what is required of you to earn the grade that you desire in his course. I would certainly recommend him to anyone who is planning to take one of the courses that he teaches.
Very straightforward and supportive
Helped me throughout the whole course and was understanding!
Do not be intimidated by the lengths of his emails/announcements. Most of the information is repetitive but read all of the material so you do not miss any important information. Pay attention to the Key Skills as it determines your grade. Dr. Grassinger gives personal feedback on your writing and is very accessible. I highly recommend his courses.
Dr. Grassinger is simply outstanding! His syllabus and announcement modules can be intimidating at first glance, but if you set aside a proper amount of time to read and soak in the information, you will be set up for success. The workload is extremely reasonable, and he lays out exactly what is required for each assignment. 5 star experience!
I would absolutely recommend taking Dr. Grassinger's ENG102 online course. Although the syllabus, emails, and announcements seem daunting, take the time to go through it systematically for each assignment and you will get the grade you want, guaranteed. Also, the workload is very manageable!
Dr. Grassinger was the best teacher I had met at CCAC. I took two courses with him and performed in both. Things to note: - Reading is upfront. Be prepare to read many pages of information and highlight where points are given along the way. - Predict your grade - there are no surprises. - Start early. There are a ton of small requirements.
He is a very intelligent professor with an enormous level of experience. He provides you with a lot of resources. He expects you to give you all you have to achieve the best of your capability.
Professor Grassinger is one of the best professors I have ever had. I have taken classes at different universities, and he is by far the best. He cares about his student's success and helps to make sure they do their best work. Definitely take his course and if not one, take them all!!!!
Dr. Gary Grassinger was awesome. My favorite online class this semester. He really made things easy and accessible and he was always an email away with any questions that you had.
He partially grades based on your self evaluation on each writing assignment. It is very important to read each email and each assignment so you know what is required and what isn't, which can sometimes be a bit confusing with the multiple places things are posted. If you put in the effort, you will get an A+! I would recommend this professor!
Grassinger is an excellent professor; In his online class, he is always just an email away. Be sure to follow his emails and the syllabus, and you sure to get the grade you want.
If you have the chance to take one of Dr. Grassinger's classes, 100% do it!! He provides you with a multitude of resources to guarantee your success. Both his passion for what he does and his kindness are remarkable. It would be hard to find a teacher out there who cares about his students as much as Dr. Grassinger does. He is truly incredible!!!!
Dr. Grassinger is such a kind and thoughtful professor. He really cares about his students and what he is doing to help them learn. Although it was an online course, he was quick to respond to my emails if I needed help. His emails are lengthy, but if you take the time to read them thoroughly, you will have all the information you need.
Compounded my frustration with Mr Grassinger was the apparent isolation in my struggles. It was disheartening to be repeatedly told that I was the sole student encountering difficulties, especially when both myself and advising personnel couldn't access certain course materials. I recommend looking for any other professor,
If you need a speech class, this was an easy A. You just have to understand the way he color codes for each assignment which seems overwhelming and confusing to learn AT FIRST but once you understand it, it is easy to follow the assignments. He is very nice and easy to talk to!
Professor Grassinger is helpful, inspirational, and overall a great person to come across. His class is laid out in a format that you can choose your grade. He provides an ample amount of directions to secure your success as well. I highly recommend his class!
Professor Grassinger provides you with all the information you may need, and replies to emails quickly. He really cares about his students and is always willing to help. I 100% recommend this class if you are looking for a self-paced option.
I took both SPH 101 and ENG 102 in the spring with Professor Grassinger. He is very precise in what he wants to see in the assignments. His emails and instructions can be intimidating at first, as they are quite long, but he explains every step of the way in detail and the best part is- work load is not hard at all. :)
The course material and expectations were clearly explained. The professor is very understanding of student's busy schedules and the assignments reflect such. The assignments were informative and reflective, and not too time consuming. The professor provided feedback on each assignment in a positive and constructive way!
Dr. Grassinger's style of teaching can seem intimidating at first, but once you read through everything it is fairly simple. By following his instructions and putting in the effort you can ensure a good grade. The assignments were interesting and very manageable. I would definitely recommend taking his course.
Grassinger is absolutely without a doubt the greatest professor I have ever had. I was sent multiple very very encouraging emails, this was grear around finals time when stress was creeping up. When starting this class, I was a bit overwhelmed by the syllabus and grading, there's a lot. This info you will get to know exact requirements for grades.
Made the class really easy even though it was an online class
An absolutely amazing professor. I was honored to share three classes with him English 101, English 102, and Oral communications. Provides detailed feedback and extremely clear instructions. Plenty of opportunity for success, which is his ultimate goal.
Highly recommend taking any class you can with him. Amazing instruction and wonderful mentor.
Dr. Grassinger is very clear in his instructions, but also offers a fair amount of grace and understanding towards his students. You will need the textbook he indicates, and make sure it is the right version/copy! He wants the best for his students, and if you read and follow all his instructions, you will succeed in the class.
Dr. Gary Grassinger is an excellent and caring professor who provides his students with the most detailed of instructions so as to guarantee their success. The assignments are easy to complete as long as you read the instructions and other course materials provided. The feedback is thorough and appreciated. I recommend him as a professor. 100%
Dr. Grassinger is an outstanding professor who promptly and respectfully replies to emails. He offers many extra credit opportunities, making it easy to get a good grade. Despite the lengthy reading materials, assignments are minimal. Highly recommended for those with busy schedules.

The class was fine however, I felt my grade suffered as the "syllabus" is a novel. He utilizes color codes etc. to state components that will result in an A, B, C etc. I could see how this approach would be appreciated by some, but i prefer a comprehensive rubric.Very responsive to emails which is much appreciated. Very light workload.
Dr Grassinger was great! I really enjoyed his class, even though I was intimidated by public speaking. His instructions were clear and he gave great and honest feedback. He was extremely responsive when I had any questions, which I always appreciate when taking an online class.
Dr. Grassinger's class was great - he provides tons of resources and is always available to help. Assignments were manageable, and using unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook made study prep a breeze.
Dr.Grassinger is one of the best teachers I have had in my college journey. He is very caring, always quick to answer any questions and help the best that he can when you are struggling gives lots of opportunities for extra credit and lots of tips for the best grade, communicates well and he gives very minimal work load.
Dr. G = amazing. rated difficut bc of amnt of text u need 2 go thru for all work but if u print stuff out to physically sort them &/or remove formatting u will be fine. he tells u exactly how 2 get grade u want in his materials. class itself not hard if u read the materials its step by step info. he is VERY supportive & caring, rare for a professor
I can confidently say Dr. Grassinger is the best educator I have ever had. It was a pleasure working with him. He is the most caring and understanding professor you will ever meet. He provides abundant detail on how to get an A and gives plenty of extra credit. The assignments are actually fun and engaging, I had a great time working through them.
This man has a lot of ratings, 400+ being a 5 star but for SPH101...it did not need to be as time investing as he made it. Usually the electives are less work bc everyone just wants the grade/credit, not the actual learning part. But no you have to treat his SPH101 course like its a core class with how much EXTRA writing he puts on his syllabus.
My main takeaway is the agony the syllabus put me through-Dumped in the Announcements with lots of all caps and highlights and very confusing. I wanted to scream every time I read it. In email, he seems to genuinely care about each student.Very encouraging and individually invested. If the class wasn't online, I might have loved it. Conflicted
Great professor!
This isn't an ASD friendly course. First his syllabus was over 50 pages long, super unclear and directions scattered in different places and then there was the bizarre color coding that make it difficult for neurodivergents to focus on. There's no singular place to find all of the tasks for the entirety of the course. It's like a nightmare wordfind
I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Gary's SPH101 course this semester. While it was nontraditional and perhaps frustrating at times, Dr. Gary proves through his care for his students that this was intentional and purposeful. I came out of this course with skills I can apply to every aspect of my life. I highly recommend taking any of his courses.
Dr. Grassinger was a great professor! He is very supportive of his students and offers lots of extra credit! His detailed outlines make the class easy to follow and the success of his students is his number 1 priority! I would 10/10 recommend anyone to take a class with him!
Dr. Gary Grassinger is how professors should be! He was very clear and concise in the syllabus and in emails for reminders. He perfectly explains how to get an A. He was such a caring professor and really cares about your success. 10/10
Very lineant professor who gives you every chance to succeed. If you listen to the given syllabus and follow his announcements the class will be doable even with a busy schedule. The final assignment might be nerveracking but you get plenty of time to prepare for it.
Professor Gary Grassinger is a good and caring person. He tries his best to pass on his knowledge to the students and shows that he wants the best for each one. I recommend taking his classes. P.S. At the beginning of the class, you'll receive a 50-page syllabus, but don't be scared. Once you summarize it, it will be easier to comprehend.
At first, the lengthy syllabus and emails you are provided may seem very overwhelming, but do not let that deter you. As you comb through, you begin to realize that this plethora of information is for a purpose and is of extreme value to you as a student. I have never had a professor care so much in wanting you as a student to succeed!
I took Dr. Grassinger's NC 71 section of SPH 101, almost fully virtual, with only two live lectures. If you take this six week course, understand that it's gonna be fast pace. There are five major assignments and plenty of extra credit opportunities. Grassinger is very quick at responding to emails, and very very kind. Highly recommend!!
Dr. Grassinger is a highly accomplished instructor who goes to great lengths to ensure his students success. He provides highly informative lectures and course resources and is incredibly quick to answer any question the student may have. Above all else he is very kind and driven to help you succeed! I highly recommend taking his class!
I took him for speech (which there is another rating on here for him). You are given a 50 page syllabus, fend for yourself, and learning absolutely nothing. I was encouraged to take him from North Advising because that was the campus I signed up at as a visiting student. I wish I had researched. Run; don't walk from this class
This online class gave out like a novel's worth of guidelines and instructions. This dude is needlessly complicated. My final project I screen recorded and had a video camera of me in the corner. Little did I know this was prohibited "several times" in the mish-mash of emails he sends. Said emails are written like spam. WHY IS EVERYTHING IN CAPS.
I feel convinced he visited this site and gave himself all those good ratings. Not only would it be in his interest, it's in character with everything he expects you to memorize, navigate, and comprehend.
Yes, the syllabus is long, and mainly due to repetition of instructions so you are not misguided. Once you read through it and navigate around blackboard, you'll find how easy this course actually is. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get the grade you want in the class. If you can read = easy class. Very kind and caring professor!
Dr. Gary Grassinger is an amazing and very kind professor! His class is outlined very clearly and allows you to decide your own grade! There are only 4 assignments in this course. There are many extra credit opportunities. Dr. Grassinger really cares about his students and does everything he can for you to succeed in his courses.
I took this class fully online. The 50 page syllabus in all caps was extremely overwhelming. We are expected to strictly follow the syllabus to complete the assignments and are told by the professor not to email him with questions. This style of class might work for some but definitely not all.
Dr. Grassinger seems incredibly nice but the class itself is very overwhelming. You are given a 50 page syllabus and the instructions are unnecessarily complex. I honestly wish I had dropped the class because it stressed me out all semester
The professor is highly ethical and deeply committed to students' education. This was the best course and the best instructor I have ever had in my academic experience.
Dr. Grassinger is an exceptional instructor with a clear, organized teaching style. His instructions are thorough, his expectations are clear, and his feedback is constructive and encouraging. He creates a supportive learning environment that helps students build confidence. He gives options for extra credit because he cares that students succeed.
Dr. Grassinger was extremely helpful and approachable. He fully explained all of the material and assignments, making complex topics easy to understand. Even though the class was online, he was always available for help via Zoom. He also sent helpful reminders about deadlines, which kept me on track throughout the course. Highly recommend!
Good: Asynchronous, did DB post while on a plane & test/quiz/speech all in a single weekend. I spent virtually no time on this course the entire semester. Bad: Lots to read. Worst syllabus I've seen in my life and instructions equivalent to following an inconvenient treasure map. Second you think you're finished, you realize you missed something.
Professor Grassinger is very passionate about teaching. It is very clear that he genuinely cares about the success of all his students. I really enjoyed being a student in his class! I learned many new and useful skills in this class that I will take with me into my future career!
Don't be overwhelmed by all of the information you get in the emails/syllabus. If you take your time to just read the most important things and reach out to him, if needed, he gets back promptly and will happily clarify any questions you have. He does care about his students and this is a very good and thorough course regimen.
The worst syllabus I've ever had the displeasure of reading. Contradictions throughout the syllabus/emails/blackboard announcements. The syllabus could easily be 10 pages instead of 55. Not a fan of this kind of "teaching" if you can even call it that. Avoid this professor if you are able to.
The syllabus is daunting, but giving it a careful read will set you up to succeed. Dr. Grassinger is a good email communicator and very willing to help out.
It's a lot, very confusing
I took Dr. Grassinger for SPH-101 and the class was awesome. It really helped me build and work on one of the most important if not the most important skills, communication. The workload was very light, but it was very effective. Dr. Grassinger was a great professor and was very caring and went out of his way to make sure EVERY person succeeded.
