Awesome professor. Best I had at Carolina
Very good professor - passion about the subject. Also, fun to look at - cute!
He's great. Extremely accessible and kind. I wish all my professors at UNC were as good as Prof Kayye
Made the classroom discussions engaging and entertaining. I never wanted to miss a class.
The IndianaJones of UNC. Too bad he's taken.
Gary is inspirational and actually cares about his students. He is the best professor I had in 4 years at UNC. The best.
Prof Kayye is honest and blunt. I wish more professors were. It is easy to follow his lectures and he seems to really care that we are learning.
Good teacher. You should try to go on his trade show internships too!
Gary is an awesome professor! Most importantly, his class projects, whether on New Media and technologies or Branding of Me, actually make an impact on the students life as well as the community around us.
Great class. Fun.
This class is a self branding project all semester. You have to blog two times per week so there is a lot of work to do. But Prof Gary helps you prepare for the job search by helping you master Linkedin, create a better resume and make a brand of yourself.
Gary is very approachable and helpful. He actually cares about all of us in the class and doesn't just lecture to us. He also has us meditate at the beginning at every class to reset our brains. He's very different than the average lecturer.
Great class and incredible prof.
Loved his class. He requires attendance but you kind of want to go.
Prof. Kayye is one of those instructors who makes you want to go to class. I only missed class once when I was ill. I recommend him to everyone.
Prof Kayye is one of those people who you enjoy listening to each class. He is engaging and walks you through a lot of technology in a simple way. I love his lectures. I hope I can take his branding class next year as I am studying abroad next semester.
I waited until the end of the semester to rate Professor Kayye. We just completed our last class and it was amazing. He is the best professor I had here at UNC. He cares about the students and Makes technology interesting. I would take this class again and I am taking him next semester for his branding class.
Gary is the first teacher I have had at UNC that told us to call him by his first name and really meant it. He really consider himself more than a teacher of our class and goes above and beyond what any other professor in the School of Media and Journalism does, in my experience. That's why he has the most popular class in the school.
I am currently enrolled in Gary's "The Branding of Me" course. His new media course was required at first. It's an excellent course and Gary is a very inspirational and fun teacher. I would give him a 9.9 out of 10.
Gary, as he is known, is nice and very approachable. He is a cute geek.
This class requires you to blog a lot. A lot. Did I say a lot? But he's clear about it upfront. And, it works. It is a individual branding class so.
Gary Kayye was a great professor. I am a rising Senior and I really wish I could take his classes again. He is engaging and really cares about his students.
prof kayye is an interesting guy. he seems very different than most others in the J school as he wants you to want to learn the material rather than force feed it. you can certainly get by with just sitting in his lectures and making a great grade in the class but, you get out of his projects what you put into them.
I'm in Gary's class this semester and I can already tell that this will be my favorite class at Caroline. And there is no question that he is my favorite professor already. He does talk a little fast but he is fun to watch. And a dilf.
I took prof Kayye for media planning. I had heard this is a boring class but he made it interesting. I plan to take his other two classes because he is passionate and fun to watch teach a class. He made a fairly average to boring subject interesting.
This class was Media Planning and it was something Im not at all interested in doing as a career. Id prefer a creative path. Professor Kayye actually made the subject interesting and applicable to the creatives in the class. He connected the dots well.
Lectures are so awesome, really interesting introduction to the advertising world. Lectures are always engaging, uses relevant examples. Two small group projects and easy weekly reading. Textbooks don't read like textbooks.
He is the first professor here at Carolina to insist we call him by his first name. He doesnt seem to be caught up in the highbrow culture of most of the professors here and he doesnt just lecture straight from the text books. For 137 we had two texts. Both were fun to read and Garys lectures were always applicable to the text.
I cant speak to Professor Kayes lectures compared to others in the MEJO major, but compared to the rest of my undergraduate classes he is at the top. He did grade my sample ad assignment very hard but his feedback was accurate. I love his teaching style and how he connects the dots from where we are in school to the future of advertising.
I took Gary because he was highest on Rate my Professor and it was the best decision ever. His lectures were very interesting and he was a very real person. He told lots of jokes and showed videos that made it interesting. There was only two assignments were we had ample amount of time. You work with a partner so its super easy.
I switched from one section of 137 to the other to have Mr Kayye as my professor. Im a second year and hes the best teacher I have had at Carolina so far. He is deserving of his reputation. Take him.
Confession. I have only had one class with Gary this semester but it was liberating. He is not like any other prof here at Carolina and I will have no problem waking up Friday morning to attend and watch him.
I wish all my professors st UNC were like professor Kayye. Although his assignments are very subjective with this beginners advertising class, he knows what hes talking about. I was told he was easy but he isnt. So far. We have a few weeks until professor Clancy takes over. But his seems fair. His style is interesting to watch for sure.
Gary deserves his reputation. His lectures mostly consist of interesting videos (seriously, 2.5 hours goes by fast with this man) and I go from laughing to crying at least 3 times every class. Grading is wildly easy. He also goes above and beyond with his students, even offering m one-on-one help/financial assistance when I said I couldnt take 577.
Gary is the best professor I have ever had at UNC. He genuinely cares about his student and makes every single class fun and entertaining. If you can take a class with Gary, do it.
Can confirm Gary is the absolute best. Whether you're an advertising major or not, take a class with Gary. You will not regret it.
If you have to take 137, you HAVE to take it with Gary! He is one of the most genuine people I have ever met, and he cares about each one of his students. I never wanted to miss his class, and I actually liked doing the reading for this class.
Amazing lectures from a professor who seems to actually care. Professor Kayyes passion for technology was contagious. I never considered how much technology was impacting every element of the advertising field. I am excited to take mejo577 next semester.
Four days into the semester and I love Gary K. Im a sophomore in his intro to advertising class and he is the best professor I have had at Carolina. Ive never rated a professor before but felt compelled to express this just 4 classes into this semester.
Had Gary the first half of 137 (intro to ad class) and now have the PR section. Although i wasnt exactly a fan of how subjective his assignments were, I feel my grade was fair. Gary delivers amazing lectures though.
Yesterday was LDOC for most of us in the class and I left Garys class sad and inspired. His lectures each week were the highlight of the semester. Attendance doesnt need to be required. No one wants to miss his class. Inspiring. And, Im sad as Ill miss them. Thank you Gary.
I took this class because I needed more hours and wanted an easy A. While it was an easy A, this class made me wish I was an Ad major because Gary is one of the kindest, funniest and open-minded professors I've ever had. No matter what your major is, you should totally take a class with him before you graduate.
All you need to know is that you can pull 3 all-nighters in a row with no caffeine and still stay awake in his class. He's that engaging and just a really nice dude.
Just returned from interning with Garys company RAVE in Orlando. While Ive never worked so hard in my life, I learned more from him and Sara in one week than I did last semester. I would have never had that opportunity if not for his MEJO137 class.
Im in Garys 477 class right now and although its lecture heavy hes engaging and amazingly knowledgeable. Most UNC professors I have had cant hold my attention for an hour lecture yet Gary Kayye has a two hour lecture and I dont check Instagram and Im still engaged. Take him while you are at UNC if you can.
Professor Kayye is the highest rated teacher at UNC-CH for a reason. He is the only professor Ive ever had they I never want to miss class for. Today the class was discussing the Wednesday before Fall Break class and most of us want to come in instead of leaving on break early. What college student ever wants that?
After just one semester, Gary is possibly my favorite professor at UNC. He's engaging, he knows how to make students care about what he teaches, and he encourages growth vigorously. I got to lead a media campaign for this class and after getting to work with him I'm beyond grateful for the experience I got working with Gary
This week was LDOC at UNC for the fall semester and my last class was Garys new media class. I didn't want it to end. Most of us didn't want it to end. I have now completed 108 hours of classwork here at Carolina and these three hours were the BEST.
One of the best professors I've had so far. He's super knowledgable about the subject and very engaging. Really pushes students to do their best. Very laid back and a pretty easy grader
Prof. Kayye was very approachable and easy to talk to. I started the class convinced I would be a PR major but finished it confident that advertising and story telling was my passion. I wish more Hussman profs were this good.
I waited two semesters to get Professor kayye for 137. I was told by friends that he was the best instructor in the J School and that his lectures are more interesting and worth the wait. He was and they are.
Gary is the best! At the beginning of the year, he told us that we shouldn't show up for class if his lectures aren't interesting because that means he isn't doing his job. He's funny and helpful and his lectures are really interesting and engaging. I actually looked forward to his class even though it was on Zoom. We also only had 2 assignments!
SO FUN! Seriously for the most part we just watch/ read well produced ads and learn what makes them great. He is funny and very knowledgeable on ad agencies and audiovisual. Just look him up on linkedin, twitter, or tiktok for more!
Gary is by far my favorite professor. I have had him for 137, 477 and now, 577. He is truly wonderful. If you want to make an A in his class you are going to have to work for it, but he makes every activity and every project so much fun that you actually want to do the work. Do yourself a favor and take a class with him! You won't regret it!
This was my first class with professor Kayye and everything everyone says about him is accurate. Hes an amazing teacher and instills just the right amount of confidence to allow his students to produce creatively. Even with a mask on all semester hes better than any professor Ive had in person at UNC. 10 stars
Great professor!
I am in Garys new media class now and I realized I forgot to rate him last semester. I took him for 371, after having him for 137, and I cant say enough good things about him. He cares, hes good, hes passionate about teaching and hes smart. Take him. I just completed fdoc for his 477 class and listened to him lecture for 3 hours and left happy
Just finished up his section of Mejo 137 Advertising. As a UNC community we have had an extremely rough weekend with two deaths. He sent us a very touching email and cancelled our midterm when a lot of professors did nothing. He is funny, charismatic, and caring and would 100% take this class again.
Professor Gary was an amazing professor. I had him for the Advertising section of 137 this year, and it is clear that he is passionate about what he teaches and that he cares about his students. Somehow in an online class of 100+ he managed to connect with every student. He went out of his way to make us feel heard and welcomed.
Took this class online due to COVID, and it was very low stress. It is graded on a few assignments so pay close attention to those. Pay attention during lectures- get down key definitions and applications as they're important for assignments. He's a little picky when it comes to grading, but not terribly so.
I love Professor Kayye. His lectures are so intriguing and his class wasnt very hard. I took his class through zoom, and somehow, he had my attention every minute of class. I highly recommend you take his classes!!
Kind, caring and real. A true gem.
Gary was an okay professor. He was a nice guy and made the lectures as interesting as possible but he gave bad feedback and didn't have clear grading criteria. After deaths on campus, he canceled our midterm and gave everyone a 100 which was super appreciated.
Class was fine, but feel like I didn't learn much due to it being online and him not being able to engage us.
I loved Professor Kaye. His lectures were long but entertaining and funny. MEJO 137 was a super easy class, and he graded generously.
I had a lot with Gary in MEJO137. MEJO137 is an introductory course to advertising/pr so the concepts are more simple, but he made his presentations really interesting and added a lot of ads to keep his students attentions. Only two assignments were graded (not including the final) but both assignments had clear grading criteria.
Gary Kayye is the best teacher I have had at UNC and is better than any of my high school teachers too. In person attendance was optional due to COVID but I never missed a class. Very few professors taught in person but he did. And he is the only reason I went to campus the entire semester. He cared enough to give us a normal college experience.
Hes awesome
I love Gary's class. Was really understanding during hard times and legit cancelled the final and gave everyone a 100 on it because he didn't want us worrying about our grades while grieving. But his lectures were cool, lots of videos he shows. Only did like 2 assignments, creative based but easy and fun! Best teacher I've had!!
Gary is amazing! His lectures are actually interesting and fun. I always looked forward to going to his class. You can tell he is passionate and loves teaching. The group projects are fun to complete because they are not the typical project you find yourself doing for other classes.
His lectures are very interesting and engaging, and his assignments (2 throughout the semester) are easy, fun, and in groups. His final was so easy and only 15 questions, took me 15 minutes. Love him!!!! Definitely recommend taking this class or any one with him
Gary is my favorite professor I've had at UNC. He is passionate and engaging and overall makes class a good time. I looked forward to coming to class and will be taking another. The books he has you read (skim if you want) are actually interesting and light reads. The few assignments you have are fun and not harshly graded.
Gary is awesome. His section of 137 is so much better than the PR. He is an amazing lecturer and I am hoping to take more of his classes in the future. If you can get into any of his classes, take them.
Gary is awesome! This class was so useful in learning real-life professional skills with improving LinkedIn, interviewing skills, job applications, resumes, and more. It also helped me think more deeply about what I want in my career and life after college. Plus, I got to start a podcast with my best friend!!! 100% take this class
The Best!! Take him if you can
He's the best! Take his class for a fun and easy A (you will still learn a lot!) He gave us free ice cream on LDOC which proves that he's the GOAT. Easy test and fun assignments, really loved his class!
Garys class was 5:00 to 8pm every Wednesday. At the beginning of the semester I dreaded the thought of a 3 hour class. At night. By the end of the semester, I cried it was over. Literally cried. Hugged him three times the last day of class. Best class I took during my 4.5 years at UNC. Best professor for sure.
Easily the best professor I've ever had. I always looked forward to going to his class early in the morning because his lectures were always so fun and entertaining and he is so knowledgeable about literally everything. There is no way not to like this professor, he's the best.
Gary is probably the best professor I will have at Carolina. Captivating lectures and you get to watch the best ads of the past and from the current industry. 2 group projects that aren't hard and one final exam which he basically gave us the answers to during the last lecture with catered Ben and Jerry's. Def take Gary at some point at Carolina.
Gary is one of the biggest blessings at UNC. His classes are mostly lectures, and he is truly able to show his passion for his work through what he teaches. His intro class is what helped me decide to change majors.
Best during my UNC career so far
I just finished the ad side of the class and never written a professor review. I needed to as gary is great. I wish he was teaching the pr side of the class too. I wish he had time for project feedback but understand as its 125 of us.
Great professor. It was not hard to do well in this class if you put in the effort. All lectures were phenomenal and engaging. Not huge into advertising, but great class.
Amazing lectures! I felt like I was in a ted talk every class. His class is easy but you also learn a lot about advertising.
I LOVED Gary. Gives great lectures, and I learned so much for an intro course. Super easy class, but very interesting
He ended the semester talking about how he designed the class to be an experiential marketing project. It was. great class. great professor. Gary is the best at UNC in my opinion.
Professor Kayye is hands down the best professor at UNC. If you're thinking about taking his class - DO IT !!!! hands down my favorite class at UNC. He truly lets your creative flow!
Carolinas Finest. Just finished final project and I feel prepared for the advertising industry already. Props to Dr T. for recommending that I take his class.
477 is amazing! Wish there was more availability for the class so more students could take it.
This class was amazing and I was able to learn a TON!
Great guy. He'll show you cool or sad or weird advertisements and explain why they're well or poorly done. Super fun class. 2 group projects-have some creative ideas and put some effort in and you'll do fine. You don't get to choose your groups. Final is pretty simple and open note. 10/10 would recommend this class w Gary
amazing professor and class is very fun; mainly just watching fun ads and him explain them. he's very engaging and a good lecturer. there's 2 group projects but they're not that hard, and the final is very short and open-notes which is great.
I took MEJO 137 and it was really fun and easy going. Gary is an awesome professor and he's an easy grader. There were two group assignments which were creative and fun. The final was really fair and was easy to pass if you pay attention in class. Loved this class and can absolutely recommend it.
I am a senior and have had at least 20 professors here at UNC. Gary is the best. Not even close. Interesting, fun, cares, and knows what he is talking about. I had him for three classes and all three were the best I took at UNC.
Professor Kayye is GREAT! I absolutely loved his lectures and insight into the world of advertising. We watched SOOO many advertisements and talked about them in class. It was a super easy class: the exam is open everything (internet, note, book, etc). The two projects you do in the class are super fun and he provides good feedback.
The best professor out there and I am not exaggerating!! I promise you, Gary is the best person out there. He makes every single class super fun and it is not a lecture but rather a meet-up to discuss interesting topics. It should be mandatory to take a class with him since it will be the best experience during your time here. All love out to Gary
Gary is very laid-back. He even let us call him by his first name. in this class we have a lot of individual creative projects. I learned a lot about how to make myself more creative publicly. He was really patient.
Beg him to get in this class. I wanted to take this class since my freshman year and it was worth the wait. I tried for three years and got in my senior year. Worth. The. Wait. This is the best class at UNC.
Hands down one of UNC's best professors! I have loved every single class Gary teaches!
Awesome professor. Super engaging and the projects were interesting. There's a little bit of group work, but nothing is too hard. Loved this class!! Take it with him!
Gary is the best professor. There is never any homework at all. His lectures are interesting and he's really funny.
Gary Kayye is a great professor. Super easy to understand and he makes the classes fun and interesting. There was a time when he opened a class with a lightsaber fight. Very fun guy.
His lectures are adaptive and entertaining, and despite the large class size there are meaningful discussions. Whether you're interested in journalism or just looking for a fairly easy gen-ed, this class is perfect and I look forward to having him again for future MEJO classes.
I think Gary is a funny guy and someone who is very passionate about teaching Advertising. I will say however, that his lecture style is quick and all over the place. If you need more structure like I do, Gary may not be for you. He's great at connecting students with companies and great at his job in Ad, but as a professor he was not my favorite.
Gary is GREAT. MEJO101 was so interesting and engaging while also being the easiest class on my schedule. The topics discussed were relevant and dynamic and we had one assignment all semester (it took ten minutes). Class was canceled a lot, which was nice but also disappointing at times simply because I loved the lectures. Would 100% recommend.
Just take the class, trust me bro.
Gary is awesome, I highly recommend.
In the AD portion of Ad + PR Professor Kaye is an extremely high-energy and fun professor. You can easily pass the class as long as you do the reading or go to the lecture, you don't need to do both. I missed a decent amount of lectures and still did great on projects and finals. As long as you have good groupmates this class will be a breeze.
This is an easy class to do well in. Gary makes class interesting and engaging and he's probably the best professor at UNC. I had heard of him as early as orientation and went into the class with high expectations. My expectations were exceeded. Stop saying he's easy. He's just good and class is easy because he's interesting.
Best class ever, and the best professor in Chapel Hill. I have taken two of Gary Kayye's classes. I have him one more next semester. I wish he taught all my classes at Carolina.
Professor Kayye told us to call him Gary the first day. No other professor has let me use their first name. This defines Gary. He is personable and approachable. He is busy because everyone wants to take him and get his help. So be patient. Worth the wait. The second half of the semester was taught by Dean Dixon. She was nice but I learned nothing.
This was the best class I have taken in college so far. I transferred from Elon and I'd never had a professor as good as Gary. This class was three hours long and there wasn't a day where I dreaded coming. He's engaging and I would recommend any class Gary teaches. I am taking 371 from him next semester.
Gary's lectures are super engaging and interesting. Attendance wasn't ever taken but I always looked forward to going to his class anyway. One project the entire semester was on ChatGPT and took 5 minutes. Cancelled classes a lot and even canceled the final last minute. Good to take if you are considering MEJO. Take it!
Everything said about Gary is true. He's an amazing professor who cares about making things engaging, helpful, and sharing what he knows (which is a lot). Plenty of opportunity to take inspiration and ideas and learn how to apply them. Highly recommend.
Gary is dynamic. Also, he a very fun teacher.
Super funny professor. We watched a lot of ads in class and there was barely any hw. The better side of MEJO 137, definitely taking another class with him in the future.
just finished MEJO 137 with Gary. I simply loved this class and he is the best professor so far at Carolina. 10 out of 10. I am only a sophomore, but his reputation of lectures is deserved.
I just love his teaching style. I nominated Gary for a teaching award at UNC and he won. Well-deserved.
Gary is the best. I've been lucky enough to have him for 3 semesters while in college. He is so invested in the lives and wellbeing of his students. Lectures are engaging and he is so passionate about what he teaches. Every person deserves to have a teacher like Gary in their lives!
I LOVE GARY. enough said
I've had Gary for four classes at UNC and he is by far my favorite teacher I've ever had. He is extremely casual but inspirational and believes in his students' futures. He will help you in any way possible. And he's super funny.
Gary is truly one of the best professors I've had. Cares for his students immensely and even buys us dinner every week! I took him for 3 semesters, and honestly wish I could take more if I wasn't graduating. Material is very useful for real-life work and gets you to think critically. Take him if you get the opportunity to!
I switched my major to advertising due to his lectures. He makes everything interesting. I even cried in his class and still loved it. His lectures are packed with content so you have to pay attention but they are never boring. So far, he is the best teacher I have had at UNC. Take him if you can.
Exceptional lecturer, such a fantastic stage presence and makes a relatively boring subject engaging. I'm not planning to do AD/PR in the future but I'd take classes with him just for his lectures. Really important to harness your creativity in this class but it's pretty easy to do well.
Gary is a good lecturer and made the material more interesting. The grades from his part of the class come from two creative group assignments and then a 10 question final. Pretty easy class regardless of interest in AD/PR. Really cool guy who is very charismatic and funny, and I would take more of his classes in the future because of it.
Gary is an excellent lecturer and very accessible. He made me fall in love with advertising, and I never checked the clock in class. Even the group projects with my frustrating group members were interesting and educational.
Gary is probably the coolest professor at the J school. His lectures are entertaining, engaging, and you learn a lot in a short period of time. I would recommend his class to everyone interested in advertising.
Great professor and knows what he is talking about. If you get the chance to take a class with him, do it. Classes are lectures but still engaging, and based on a final and two projects.
I'm writing this review as I am in class. Wow! His reputation is dead on. Love him.
Today was the last day of my advertising class. When I started this semester, I was a journalism major and hated advertising. Gary made advertising fun in the class and the class had a great vibe to it, even though it was over 150 students. If you can, take his class.
Gary is amazing! He is so knowledgeable and very successful in his field. He is an inspiration to learn from and I highly recommend taking his class. His lectures were engaging, and he gave us the answers and questions to the midterm beforehand. He really wants his students to succeed.
Attendance is not mandatory but you should go to class; readings are encouraged but you don't need them AT ALL. Graded by two quick group assignments and a final (gives you answers) - easiest A ever if you put work into group assignments.
My favorite professor yet. He is amazing at what he does! Take his class if you can! He wants his students to do well and his lectures are engaging and interesting. Two projects, a 10-question online exam, and a research study make up your grade for this class.
I loved this part of class - basically watching ads and commercials the whole time. There's group work outside of class, but otherwise it's listening to Gary talk the whole time. I still really enjoyed the lectures.
Gary is an engaging, charismatic lecturer who makes this class captivating. Even with the workload, I found myself looking forward to his lectures. For study prep, I used Unstuck AI along with the free textbook - a winning combo!
Awesome professor. Any AD/PR majors should consider taking one of his classes, genuinely one of the best in the J-school and cares about his students.
Gary was a very chill professor and very hilarious. He knows a lot about his field and keeps lectures entertaining. The work for the AD section was not hard either.
SUCH a good professor! His lectures are always so engaging I always want to come to class. There are a few group assignments with your teams, but it's easy. The exam in his section of 137 will literally take you 10 min max. Don't buy the textbook, you don't really need it, but there's a free version online anyway.
This class was every Wednesday night for three hours. I dreaded it walking to the first day. By the end of that class, I was in love with his style. He is simply a perfect professor. Take him; no matter the class.
Gary is awesome and cares about his students doing well. You learn a lot in a fun way and with low pressure. One exam that was open note and two projects that were easily graded.
BEST class at Carolina. His is casual but knows how to tell stories and entertain. I never missed a class and just aced his exam.
This is the best class I have taken at Carolina so far. We now switched to public relations and I hope the new professor is as good as professor Kayye. I am only a first year but he is the best professor I've had so far. I hope to take him for future classes.
Such a great professor! He is very creative and good at telling stories. Group projects and one quiz/exam. Attendance/textbooks not mandatory.
I am three days away from my last class from Gary. I have had him for four of my eight semesters at Carolina and my only regret is that I didn't intern with him. I think he is the best teacher at UNC. By far.
Gary's class is so enjoyable and interesting! He makes it super fun and he is hilarious. There is very little assignments and it's an easy A! I would highly suggest his class to anyone and hope to take more classes with him in the future!
I LOVED class with Gary. It was always so fun and interesting, and he assigned great projects that I actually wanted to do. I hope to take more classes with him in the future.
FIRE CLASS EVEN MORE FIRE PROFESSOR. God I loved Gary (and VK too) super caring individuals who want to make you learn about Ad and PR while still having fun. Highly recommend this class for easy A.
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR! If you can take this course, take it at Carolina. Gary was one of the most compassionate, funny, and engaging professors at this university. Grading was not harsh, he tells you what is on his tests. Even if you aren't a MEJO major, take this class!
❤️❤️ Gary is the goat 🐐. His students love him for a reason. Take him while at Carolina no matter what your major is.
I would absolutely take this class, especially if you are a journalism major and curious about whether or not you'd want to take the advertisement/PR track. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. There's two creative assignments and one final. Other than working on those assignments, there's no homework!
All the reviews are true: Gary is amazing! He is well-respected in his field, and he knows what he is talking about. As a journalism major, it felt like such a privilege to learn about the industry through his lectures. I only had two assignments and the final the whole semester; barely worried about work and was excited for each class session.
Lectures were super entertaining. He teaches the content by showing some of his favorite advertisements, and breaking down what works well in them. Two group projects that only took about an hour each. Easy, but productive class.
Gary is AMAZING! You honestly don't need to go to the lecture to pass, but I recommend going anyway because it's fun and so chill. Expectations for the group assignments are very vague, but also on purpose, so you get to be more creative. The final was the easiest thing I've taken at UNC so far.
Hilarious and the easiest class i have ever taken. Online exam too
GREAT CLASS! Great professor! Literally just show up and you'll do great, the one downside is that the final exam is 80% of your grade, which caused me to go from a 100 in the class to an 80 after taking the exam. Overall, learned a lot in class and super glad I took it.
His section of MEJO137 is very interesting. The lectures consisted of advertisement analysis and insight from Gary, and the 2 creative assignments are group projects (which are with the same groups for the PR section), but they aren't hard. Final is take home. Great guy, just didn't take that much away from the class, still had fun!
Great professor who clearly cares about what he's teaching. You don't have to take any notes or attend lectures to pass. The final for his portion of the class is super straightforward. There is one or two group projects for his part of the class which aren't bad at all but the rubric is a little vague and he barely gives out 100s for the projects.
