Larkin is great and laid-back to his students. his class felt like high school again...easy and simple, just do the work. he assigns one big essay..and like two in class essays that he prepares for u like reading and disscussing it b4 test. also nice!

Prof. Larkin. is super cool. I'm not a real big english fan, but you don't have to be to enjoy his class. He'll prepare you for all of your assignments, and grades fairly. I like the way he assigns homework. Not big stuff, but it makes me feel like I'm learning something, not just memorizing stuff.

Professor Larkin is the bomb! He the best english teacher I've ever had. He was the first to let me write how I felt and it was great! Because for once I was able to speak my opinion clearly and let my voice be heard. His test are easy and his class is entertaing. Totally recommend taking it.

He is a very laid back and nice guy. He relates to his students on their level. He's not stuffy and makes the class interesting!

Larkin's the best! HCC is extremely lucky to have him. He takes boring material and makes it interesting. He's helpful, patient, understanding, funny, and easy to get along with. He also has a really nice smile. Take him, you won't regret it.

Took this online, graded very hard on papers (but it IS english class, lol). Would not recommend, necessarily. Would be hard for someone who is not an English major or who hates writing.

Mr. Larkin is one of the best teachers I have had. Hes goofy, very laid back, understanding, and extremely helpful. Yes, he grades a little bit harder on papers but its totally worth it! Wouldnt take anyone else but him for ANY english class.

He is a great teacher! its preety hard to get an A on your papers or quiz essays, but he gives you other oppotunities to earn points. He is funny,has a good smile, and passionate. I wish I could have taken him for ENC1101 as well! LOVED IT!

Mr. Larkin is a pretty cool teacher. I took his class online and even though there was quite a bit of writing, it was still a fairly easy class. He does grade essays very accordingly but he will let you know what you need to correct so you can get extra credit later on. Would take him again and definitely recommend.

I had Mr. Larkin for an online course. The class was fairly easy and he kept it interesting with the topics he offered for our "weekly discussion". A lot of his comments where quite commical, I think I really would have enjoyed having him for lecture as well. Do the work and youre sure to pass this class.

Larkin is an awesome professor. The class is easy as long as you do the assignments (which aren't that long) and come to class, you will get a good grade. He's really funny and realistic, and he actually made Hamlet pretty interesting. There's about 3 short research papers and a few quizzes and they're all fairly easy. I would def. recommend him.

Great teacher! I took the online class and thought I had bit off more than I can chew at first. Classes are pretty much self taught but Mr. Larkin tries to keep you interested. Do the homework, reading, and study and you will do great. I would only recommend the online class to those who are disciplined. Not my best subject but I got an A.

Do the homework, and you'll get a good grade (it really isn't very time consuming). Since you don't need to worry about the grade, you can be, well... creative! Larkin was awesome. I hope my next Creative Writing teacher is just as encouraging as he is =)

Definitely one of the best teachers on campus. I've highly recommended him to a lot of people already. He deserves the high ranking, for sure. Take him for ENC or Creative Writing, won't be disappointed. He's easygoing, enthusiastic, and funny. Great teacher.

I took the online class. Professor Larkin kept things interesting and challenging at the same time. Great professor!

His classwork was quite reasonable. I took his English Comp class online, and I found his instructions to be quite clear and simple. The workload was reasonable. He posted everything at the beginning of the class, so we could work at our own pace which was nice.

I took his online course. He is a good teacher with a great sense of humor. English is not my best subject, but I got an A.

GREAT PROFESSOR!Very helpful and is hilarious. wants you to succeed. his essays are easier than i expected and quizzes are over grammar.. if you study your powerpoints your good to go! No final either. :) makes his class very fun and enjoyable. Ended up with an A+ in his class. :) TAKE HIM!!

Makes English fun. You will see that in some of the questions on quizzes. Easy class as long as you follow the syllabus and put some effort into studying the grammar. I am taking him for ENC 1102 this semester and looking forward to it. Received an A.

Very nice teacher. He gives mini quizzes each week and he grades essay hard but if you follow the syllabus and check your essays before you submit it to him you should do well. This is not a class to slack in because you can easily fall behind and fail. You will need to buy the book because the quizzes and some essays are from readings out the book

Highly recommended teacher, his quizzes are fun and easy, he grades the papers strictly but if you put some effort on them you shouldn't have a big problem. English is my third language and I did fine; so, if English is your first you can't get less than an A with Mr. Larkin.

Very easy class if you attend and pay attention to his lectures during the slideshows. The slideshows were so good I saved them for future reference. Pretty much you can pass the class easily like this: Show up, pay attention to the slideshows, and participate in the discussion topics.

Awesome teacher. At first, I was unsure about taking a hybrid class, but I found Larkin's class fun and easy. As long as you regularly check the calender on blackboard and do all the assignments there is no way you could fail. Now for the teacher. Larkin is a cool teacher. When we got to poetry, he made the poems easy to understand and fun to learn

Ah, where do I begin? Probably one of the coolest teachers I've ever had at HCC. Very laid back but extremely helpful. Honestly the only teacher that will always answers my emails, which is fantastic. There are quite a few papers and reading assignments, but he makes it seem easy. If he taught anything else, I'd take it even if I didn't need to!

Great English class! The criteria is easy enough. Follow his instructions and you'll pass the class. He also provides extra credit. Fun and interesting topics as well.

I took his hybrid class, only met once a week so if you miss a class you miss one of the quizzes from the readings assigned, DON'T! they can really help you at the end of the term. He responded quickly to emails and was always available during his office hours. EXCELLENT professor, laid back, the lectures were always interesting.

Mr. Larkin gives good feedback, replies to messages quick, is kind, and doesn't give too much work. You have 3 essays with a corrected essay assignment for each, couple of timed writings, a few grammar quizzes, and a project towards the end. It's all fairly simple, and easy. Textbook wasn't really needed. Advice: check for grammar issues, well.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR A REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS. Mr. Larkin is funny and this class is EASY! I got an A and I didnt have to work super hard for it. He outlines his class very specific. If you follow is EXACT directions, you will get an A. He gives you chances to fix your papers (which arent many) and a couple of times to pass exams. So happy w him!

I took professor Larkin class on online & received a B! Hes a really easy grader. The work load wasnt too bad. I wrote about 3-4 papers but thats to be expected its English!

took his class online. the course work is laid out very easy. quizzes are open book. you can work ahead if you want to. he graded everything quickly and was quick to respond if i had any questions.

He is very easy and helpful. Could have gotten an A if i wanted to; just didn't put in the effort. He replies his emails promptly and gives you credit for correcting your essays. Quizzes are open book with more than enough time to get it done.

Professor Larkin gives good feedback and does not give out a lot of assignments also grades things very quickly. As long as you turn everything on time and read the assignments instruction you should be fine.

Professor Larkin is a tough grader for sure but as long as you put the work in, you can get an easy A. There was 3 essays, 1 being a final timed writing with a random prompt. 5 quizzes total, all super easy as long as you read the chapter and it is also open book/note. Overall, easy class and good teacher.

Very easy workload. 1 or at most 2 assignments due each week. Assignments are due at 11:59 on Fridays or Wednesdays. Course goes by very quick and the assignments are easy. There is a final timed writing, but you have 150min to complete it and it is not graded harshly. Would highly recommend taking Mr. Larkin!

I took him for both enc 1101 and 1102 and it was the best decision. He cares about his students and replies to emails in a timely manner. Assignments are easy and not a lot of work. He is an easy grader. He will work with students to make sure they succeed in class. If you are looking for an english professor, I highly recommend him.

If he tells you to buy a textbook for enc 1102, don't buy it because you don't need it. You don't really use the textbook in class or outside of class much. I regret buying the textbook for 50 bucks in the bookstore. Most of the assignments in class don't need the textbook and that textbook can be found online too.

A book for 1102 isnt needed (he might tell u to buy it, but u can look the stuff up online in class to follow along), he gives great feedbacks and has reasonable office hours (in person and emails) to help you out, not too much writing, great teacher and very easy class.

Very good professor and fairly easy as long as you keep up with the material which was not a lot. This was my second time taking him after ENC1101 and for both classes I took a hybrid class meaning I only met in person once a week and the rest was online. If you show interest he will help you, he is very helpful and wants you to succeed. RECOMMEND!

easy A just do your work and follow the rubric. i skipped an assignment and my final grade was a 98.

I love this professor and would recommend him to anyone who is looking to take SLS1106. He would always answer emails quickly and would give in depth explanations on what you need to do for your assignments. This course is really easy and I had a great experience.

I took Professor Larkin for ENC 1101 and 1102 and I highly reccomend his class he is amazing and the coursework was easy as long as you listened to his instruction. He is also very funny and its easy to talk to him. Take his class! Trust me.

Goes over assignments every week in class. 2 essays & 1 project - all are really straightforward and he's always willing to answer questions. 5 discussions & 6 quizzes on canvas (10 questions). Really easy-going and understanding professor. Just don't use AI and you'll do great, he is more than willing to help

This class was pretty easy. He doesn't grade too harshly. He takes a 92+ as an A. I had a 91 at the end and it got rounded up, he was very nice to me about it. The amount of work increases and gets harder throughout, but its pretty manageable as long as you stay on top of everything.

As long as you do all the assignments, you're golden. There's no videos you have to film or anything to present. He's a pretty easy grader as well. I used ChatGPT for most assignments and nobody knew. A small quiz with multiple attempts every week but as long as you use all attempts you could get an easy 100% every week.

Larkin is a great professor, very knowledgeable and makes you understand the material. He can be strict with grading but he has detailed rubrics that help with that, reading and following the rubric will save your grade. Attendance and participation in class is important, if you show effort and consistency he will help you. Overall a fair professor

Overall, I'd say it's an amazing class. Professor Gary Larkin is very kind, very respectful, and a very good teacher. Attendance is mandatory but you don't have to participate if you'd rather not. Assignments are clear cut and straightforward, they just take some effort on your part. If I were to take 1101 again, no doubt I'd choose Prof. Larkin.

Professor Larkin is the best teacher ever! I wish I could take enc1102 with him. He grades and responds to emails extremely quick. The workload was a regular amount with only 3 essays. He even gives ai checks as assignments so you can tweak your essay before you submit. As long as you put in some effort, there's no reason you shouldn't get an A.
