Great guy, really cares about his students. Eye opening lectures that challenge you to think outside the box. Did a great job of explaining both realms of thought in economics and although there is a lot of reading, if you do it you will pass with a good grade. Straightforward testing, received an A, and a much better understanding of economics.
Professor Macleod was amazing. He really makes you think about economics in real world settings and by providing clear examples. He provides extra credit opportunities, and the tests/exams are take home. You'll have to do the readings in order to do well on the pop quizzes, but overall an excellent class with a fun teacher.
Quizzes are easy if you READ. 30 pages. Its interesting. Plus, you know what Macleod is talking about during lecture. Macleod is straightforward about the subject, that is why people think hes mean. He tells it like it is. Like minimum wage. People had diff heartfelt opinions. Economists should be fact-based not value based & thats Macleod.
Prof. Macleod is a PHENOMENAL PROFESSOR. He is by far the best Prof. I have ever had. This class is an easy A though you definitely have to read in order to excel. His very respective of all his students and goes above and beyond to make sure everyone understands the class material. I would take him again in a heartbeat if I could.
Easy A. Just attend the class and you'll pass!
One of the best teachers there is!
Great professor!!! Definitely knows what he is teaching. As long as you attend class and do the reading you will be fine. I would recommend him to anyone!!
Good professor really knowledgeable, informative, and passionate. Try to participate in class like speaking out, answering questions and it will go in your favor.
A really great professor. He knows exactly what he's talking about and actually teaches you something useful. I really liked that the homework and exams were all take home, and for that reason I'd call it an easy A, but you do have to put effort into reading the textbook and readings he posts. If you're taking MacroEcon, take it with him.
Professor MacLeod is a wonderful economics teacher. Go in to the class with an open mind and you will learn a lot from his thoughtful perspectives on many aspects of economics. I enjoyed his lectures. Be sure to read your textbook and be organized with taking notes. You'll do really well in the class if you keep up with each chapter.
He is a great professor! I was honestly scared to take this class at first but once you go to him for help and READ then you will do just fine. Felt very confident and he wants nothing but the success from his students. Best experience.
Yes, he may not agree with everything in the textbook but if you actually read the suggested assignments you'll have more of an understanding. Have an open mind, READ, and listen/participate during class - exams are open book so take advantage of making this class fun AND bump your grade up one letter grade. Prof. MacLeod is an awesome professor.
This class is easily passable if you show up to lectures and pay attention. He emphasizes reading the textbook heavily and if you do that you should pass the class without a problem. Throws in some humor here and there but you can tell he cares about his students and loves his job. Highly recommend this man aside from other teachers.
Whoever said he doesn't have office hours and doesn't meet with students ITS FALSE. HE HAS OVER 130 STUDENTS SO HE IS FLEXIBLE WHENEVER ANYONE WANTS TO ASK A QUESTION. Literally one of THE BEST professors you can ever ask for and if you have a problem with him like wow please ? He literally does EVERYTHING for students !!!!!
Before taking Professor MacLeod's class, I was a filthy Keynesian. Now I pray to Milton Friedman's spirit for economic gains before bed every night. The class isn't too hard, provided you read the material; otherwise, you will not pass. He gives pop quizzes out of the blue so make sure you're up to date at all times.
Professor MacLeod is very detailed, well spoken, respected by students, very understanding, humorous, and most importantly challenges you and gives you tasks (if you want to) to have a better understanding of the material. He goes an extra mile to bring you documents you think you need. It is nearly impossible not to participate in class.
Professor MacLeod is the best economics professor at NOVA. His is very informative, his classes are interesting, and the tests and quizzes are so easy if you read. All tests, quizzes and homework's are open book, take home which is an easy A. I took an 8-week course and passed with an A. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Great professor. Highly recommend taking his courses.
Professor MacLeod is awesome! I was expected economics to be boring but he really sparked an interest in the subject for me. Tests are open note/book but you need to know the material to do well. I really enjoyed his class and am taking him again for micro.
Professor MacLeod is awesome! I expected economics to be boring but he really sparked an interest in the subject for me. Tests are open note/book but you need to know the material to do well. I really enjoyed his class and am taking him again for micro.
His lectures are very interesting and help you learn the material. He is super nice and helpful! The class is pretty straight forward, if you attend class and read the chapters you will be fine. He isn't the best at responding to emails so ask questions in class.
He was tough, but passionate about what he teaches. And since I've taken his class I've found myself thinking back to what he taught us. Just beware, Skip Class? You won't Pass is apt. And I didn't have the option but "Beware of Pop Quizzes"........
Great teacher, took an 8 week class with him and it flew by and I actually learned a lot. Overall amazing teacher!
Prof. MacLeod gives amazing lectures. I would highly recommend attending class regularly and taking notes - important questions in exam. If you want to have an amazing time learning about Economics (Micro & Macro) Please take Professor MacLeod !! I've had him for both and they were some of my favorite classes : )
During the whole semester i was only able to take his class 4 times because there was something worse going on in my life but still i had this hope that Prof Macleod will understand me and these 4 days of my class he had done his great and is a true inspiration for me . He is a great professor.
Prof. Macleod really breaks it down into easy pieces of information and gives a well thought out class every time. He is a bit opinionated but that comes with every econ professor. Homeworks were not too bad and tests are all TAKE HOME!!! Would DEFINITELY recommend this professor!
I become really interested in economics because of him. I guarantee you will have a better view about the US economy after taking him. When you do the reading materials that he's assigned, it will be really helpful for your exams.
Professor MacLeod is very knowledgeable and his lectures are very informative and interesting. As long as you do the readings assigned and pay attention in class, you will be fine.
A very caring teacher that wants you to pass. Its only about 5 homework which are very easy, as long as you come to class and read the chapters he tells you will pass.
He's very thorough in his lectures and tries to make sure everyone understands the lesson. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's much easier to pass if you show up. All in all, it was a pretty easy class and I'd definitely pick him again as a professor.
Professor Macleod is understanding and easy going. There only a few quizzes and assignments and they are all straight forward and pretty much definition based. His teaching method is effective and the course itself is easy and getting an A is simple if you dedicate a bit of time. I recommend taking his class if you need a elective course.
Amazing professor, I am so happy I took his course. I learned more about economics with MacLeod than any other instructors. He teaches logic and breaks his lectures down into manageable, bite-sized pieces. Outstanding Professor!
Prof. MacLeod is very knowledgeable and can answer any reasonable question. All the quizzes/tests are from the reading in your book. It's almost impossible to fail because he pretty much guides you through the course at your pace. I recommend everyone take him if you are struggling to pass Econ.
amazing economics teacher that says what needs to be said, very educated on this matter, and can tell he truly enjoys it, opens up your mind and his lectures are extremely interesting. take this class, you will fall in love with economics
He's a great teacher! He's really enthusiastic during lectures, and participation matters. There are pop quizzes, so read the textbook chapters he assigns.
Wicked smart. If I were an Econ major, I would go out of my way to take classes from Prof Macleod. He encourages an open discussion atmosphere that really caters to all students. But honestly, you'll need to show up and pay attention to expect to pass. While he references the book and assigns readings from it, his lectures are dense with info.
Solid guy. Helps you understand.
Professor MacLeod is a solid professor. Make sure you attend class & participate in discussions, read all of the assigned readings, & take good notes. His assignments are straightforward and the questions come from material you read/talk about in class. He makes the class interesting and he has some good stories to tell. :)
Best professor, he is a great person. He makes course interesting and motivate students to participate. If you attend classes, you will be given clues on what to focus on to pass the class, or get the A you need. Just read the chapters for each class and be prepared.
This class required participation and reading. Professor MacLeod is very dynamic and you won't get bore in his class. If you read and study, you will do well. I already registered for his ECO-202 class and I highly recommend him.
Very inspirational, respected and very passionate about the subject. Good brain to pick and I will be taking his Macro class over the summer
His lectures are good and useful. He teaches the way that students don't need to get involved in technology or complicated things. Instead, they just need to get a book and read. As far as the students read and participate in the class, the grade A is a guarantee.
Professor MacLeod was one of my favorite teachers Ive taken at Nova. Hes extremely knowledgeable about the material and goes above and beyond to make sure you understand it. He gives take home exams, but does expect you to read the textbook because he may give pop quizzes. Hes a great professor. Im taking him during the summer for Macro also.
Coolest professor in the school. It's really fun if you're actually in there to learn.
Profeesor Macleod does an exceptional job teaching economics however the subject itself can be difficult at times and there is also a lot to remember which is why i am glad he has us do our homework and tests at home while using open notes
The course was deceptively simple. If you do the reading and attend then you are pretty locked in to an A. If you skip and dont read and dont prepare for the possible quizzes, dont be surprised with your poor grade. It took me a little adjusting to the quizzes, and I failed the first one, but I rebounded and finished strong. Take. Home. Tests.
Take this Professor! He is very knowledgeable in his field, and more importantly, he is able to relay that information to his students. No tricks in this class, he wants you to pass, and will help if you are struggling. Do the required reading, study, show up, and you will pass with flying colors.
Prof. MacLeod is a great professor in his field. He is really passionate about economics and is willing to help out his students if they reach out and ask him questions. If you want a good grade, read the required chapters and readings, study your notes over and over, and show up for class.
Very passionate about economics and does a good job of teaching so that students not only understand topics, but are also interested and engaged.
Professor MacLeod was one of the best professors I have ever had, he is very helpful and very knowledgable on the study of economics. Homework is multiple choice and about as straightforward as it can be; midterm and final are both take-home and open-note. The only thing to be aware of are the pop-quizzes, but just do the chapter readings to pass.
Great professor always willing to help, kind, funny and makes assignments easy and instructions clear on what to do
one of the best professors for this course. He tries to make the class more fun, which he did. All you need to do is read the book, The homework is really easy and there will be pop- quizzes, which are also easy if you have read the chapter in the book. I learned a lot in this class and he made a better understanding of this course. Great professor.
Really funny lectures and made the class easy to follow. He cares about every student and did not make it impossible to receive the grade you want.
I highly recommend Professor MacLeod!!! Probably one of my favorite professors at nova. He makes it very easy to comprehend the material and gives plenty of time to complete assignments. Also very responsive to emails. TAKE HIM!
Compliments to Prof. MacLeod- I enjoyed a class I thought Id hate! Prof. Macs positive, energetic attitude/demeanor/style always kept me engaged in lectures and discussions. Clear grading criteria and evenly distributed points; his lectures and discussions very respectful and focused on economic concepts and theories (not political).

Professor Macleod is one of the best professors I've had at NVCC. His lectures are always interesting and engaging, as we usually relate current and historical economic issues to the material covered in the textbook. He is an extremely fair grader, who has clear guidelines and expectations. I would love to take one of his courses again!
Professor MacLeod does a great job explaining lectures clearly and keeping them interesting. He is very cooperative with giving extra help if the student is having trouble. If you do your reading, it's a really easy class
Prof Macleod has tremendous control of the subject. His intelligence and smooth teaching style make the economics more digestible. Quizzes about every week (he will hint at it in the previous class). Quizzes are based on a chapter of textbook. Only exams are a midterm and a final, both of which are take home. Be attentive in class & you'll pass!
I really recommend his class. He is very confident when he teaches. He realizes his students' situations and tries to help them. and tries to help them.
As long as you read the textbook and engage in class, you'll be fine. He's a great professor who wants to see you succeed and think about how economics works rather than just being a graph shifter.
I enjoyed this class and you will too if you want to learn about how the world of economics works. Prof. Macleod takes the concepts from the textbooks and applies them in real life and helps you to challenge ideologies that are set in place. Class is easy as long as you attend lecture and pay attention and read the textbooks for the pop quizzes.
Professor Macleod will be one of your favorites. The mutual respect he has for students is very strong and he will assist you in any way you need.
I absolutely advise you take this professor, not only is he really good at explaining complicated graphs and subjects, he also helps students think. Expect his class not only to have interesting content, but also intellectual diversity and great advice.
dont take this professor. it really hard to even get a B. He tell the whole class that most of the student he has in his classes has an averge of b for semester. His class has loys of reading and qiuzes. midtern and finals are take home, but be aware that there is no way you find those ans on internet and they are hard. I would not recommend him to
This class was very interesting and professor MacLeod is very good at explaining graphs and all the material. There is a lot of reading involved, but midterm and final are take-home policy. He values participation so as long as you read chapters on time you're good.
Although theres a lot of reading Professor MacLeod makes Econ easy. He engages his students in conversations and is overall a great Prof. I have taken both Econ courses with him and i must say he is one of the best professors i have had at Nova. Sign up for his classes before its to late. You wont regret it. Its an easy A if you put the effort in.
Professor Macleod was great! He made sure our class understood the concepts of certain subjects before diving right into them and possibly getting confused. He also spoke to us in a way that was very easy to understand and had a lot of real life examples. He has a great attitude and I would take this class again.
Best professor for sure. If you listen to his lectures you will get an A or B. Exams are take home open book. Although my major is not related to economics, I will take macro with him because his just too good. He answer's every question and makes sure that you understand even if it takes time.
Great professor!!! Works with you as long as you communicate with him. His response time is quick. Enjoyed his lectures.
One of the best professors I had at NOVA. Hes pretty straight forward and good at explaining the material. There are pop quizzes, but he lets you know when to expect it. Homework is pretty easy. There is quite a bit of reading and additional reading, but you will pass if you read. Also, do PARTICIPATE because that will help curve your grade.
He is an outstanding professor, very straight forward. He hands out pop quizzes based on the readings, which are fair. He gives detailed examples and explanations on each topic covered to enforce your understanding of the material. Overall, really great professor and I would recommend him to anyone.
So, this professor has a really great personality, but if you don't learn well just from reading material, he really isn't your best choice. In my class he quizzed us on reading material he hadn't lectured on yet, which is fine, but for me personally it tanked my grade because I don't learn well from just reading the textbook. Otherwise he's great!
Phenomenal professor, I learned a lot in this class. Prof. MacLeod is a passionate about Economics, and did a good job expressing his personal insights without being overbearing on us. Even though they're take home, the tests can be a little bit tricky if you don't use your resources properly. Just be ready to read, "pop" quizzes on the textbook!
Prof MacLeod is awesome! great lectures makes sure all the students truly understand the concepts. All the tests / assignments are very straight forward and take home. Gives pop quizzes so you have to read the chapters. He also will work with his students as long as you communicate with him. Theres no reason not to pass his class with atleast a B
Gary MacLeod is a great professor he is fun and keeps the class from being really boring. About 5 Pop Quizs Mid term and Final and hard even though its open book. Watch out for those word questions they are worth a lot of points and you need to be very specific or its wrong. He says easy A-B if you read I dont think so
Good professor, moves through a chapter's worth of material a week. So long as you take notes and keep up with the textbook reading, you'll do fine on the pop quizzes and the homework will be straightforward.
Professor MacLeod explains things clearly. I absolutely enjoyed being a part of his class.
professor Macleod is great. Make sure you read the chapters and understand the material before class because there are pop quizzes. Also make sure you attend every class because you will need your class notes to answer some of the midterm and final questions. You really learn a lot in his class.
I know economics is not easy subject, even it is hard subject he makes it easy and understandable.
I cannot describe you in words, it was an amazing experience attending his class. The level of positive energy was out standing and this was not possible without him. he taught us a new and different side of the world and economics, and I will take him again with out any doubt. He is an amazing person, all online open book exams. easy A.
If you need to take this course, I definitely recommend Professor Gary MacLeod. He will tell stories about his life, and funny ones. Homework is pretty easy, be aware of pop quizzes, you just need to read the chapters, if you do that, you will be just fine. Participation helps you a lot to your final grade. Dont skip class. Have fun!
Great professor. Took this class with another teacher before, didnt understand anything, But with him. You can actually understand this subject. He describes it very well. Read the chapter ahead of class and youll pass with flying colors. And he will relate and answer any questions with the subject easily as well.
Professor MacLeod is a great teacher. I struggle with all my econ class, but he was able to explained the material on a way that I finally understood some of it. he also like the students to engage on class which helps a lot with the learning and understanding on the material. I don't like the pop quizzes, but if you do your reading you will be ok
Prof. MacLeod makes Economics interesting. You can tell he is a genuinely well educated person. Lectures are entertaining and informative which was a huge plus. He provides examples that everyone can understand. Learn the correct vocabulary and think of the extra reading as tools for the future regardless if you pursue a business degree or not.
Awesome professor, entertaining and informative.
Take Him! I am not the best student, but I learned so much from his class. He made economics tough and engaging. He is also very fair and keeps the students engaged. I had him for both micro and macro - and combined it was a tough, especially the nerve-wracking pop quizzes - but he always let us know to expect a possible quiz. Great class to learn.
Great professor. Just lots of reading. Everything is fair though :)
If you love economics and a Matthew McConaughey accent, then you'll love professor Macleod.
Mr. MacLeod is extremely articulate and excellent at taking tough complex concepts and explaining them as if he's ordering food off of a menu (it's simple). He dissects the textbook and tells students to think for themselves and to really question other economists ideologies. Allocate your time for homework and reading correctly and you'll do fine.
Tips for professor - Organize additional readings on blackboard by chapter - have a quiz every class and drop 1or2 of lowest grades -Give weekends to work on exams, to submit on blackboard with desired time parameters. GREAT PROFESSOR - Does a unbelievable job explaining economic theories that he agrees, and disagrees with. TAKE HIM FOR ECON
Prof. Macleod is one of the coolest professors at NOVA. He helps you understand the concept of economics vs handing out tests that are basically vocab quizzes. This class will be an easy A as long as you read and show up to class. That's pretty much it. One last note, His tests are online but still read, or the short answer Q's will stump you.
Very good teacher, helped me to understand the class better than any Econ teacher I have ever taken
He's a nice guy and really passionate about economics, but I ended up with a C in the class. I gave the effort and read a decent amount, but my major has nothing to do with microeconomics , so it wasn't that intriguing for me. If you aren't passionate about Econ and want a decent grade, don't take him. If you are though, you'll have a good time
If you attend class, do the readings, and participate you will pass this class. He is very clear about what he expects from you and none of the work is particularly difficult; You even get to take the midterm and final at home! Economics can be a dull subject, but he does his best to make it entertaining. It's clear that he cares about your success
Professor MacLeod did an excellent job of explaining the key economic concepts from the course in clear, understandable terms that were accessible for a student studing the material for the first time. Furthermore, the supplementary articles enriched the class discussion and exposed students to a range of viewpoints. I would recommend MacLeod.
Unexpected questions in exam. Taking qiuz even we don't start chapter and what is chapter about.
Prof. MacLeod makes Econ, dare I say, fun. He is a wizard at giving relatable analogies, jokes, and stories which helped engage the class. He also regularly took time to pause during a lecture to make sure everyone understood the material, and he seemed to be very accessible after/outside of class. Most of the class is open-book take-home as well.
Professor MacLeod is an amazing professor and is also by far one of the best professors at nova! It was a joy taking his class and his lectures are amazing!
This class is really easy if you read the textbook. If you read the textbook, you will earn an A. If you don't, you will really struggle in the class. All of the Quizzes are 10 questions and based on the textbook. He is really nice and funny. If you really not the reading type of guy, then don't take this class.
Professor MacLeod knows his stuff and tries to make economics fun and relatable. The required readings include the textbook chapters and additional readings online. The syllabus was clear and laid out due dates for assignments. Mid term and Final are most of your grade and the short answer questions will come from the additional readings.
Professor MacLeod is a very nice guy who really knows all of the ins and outs about economics. The required readings are in the textbook along with additional readings (highly recommended to read). He does assign short quizzes that are based on the chapter readings so be sure to READ! Amazing professor and I recommend taking his course.
Great professor. Take home test. Few quizzes. Read before class starts.
Hes a great professor. All the homework and exams are take home but dont let that full you you still need to read.
I had this guy for both classes over the summer and let me tell you, he's one of the only professors that actually made me want to go to class. His lectures were always interesting, take home midterm, final, homework wasn't hard, and pop quizzes in class based off of chapter readings. Going to class and participation can help you big time.
I had him over the summer for the 6 weeks micro class, and he was great. He's a great lecturer who really knows his stuff. He likes to tell funny/interesting stories in class so you're never bored. I liked that he actually related the material to the real world. There is a lot of reading but it's nice that the midterm and final were take home.
He's really funny and his lectures are engaging. Definitely read the chapters he assigns because he'll tell you what the quiz is going to be on! Take-home tests so it was an easy class.
Really great! Just difficult enough to force you to engage with the material, but he genuinely wants you to succeed and will help in any way he can. Great lectures in which multiple perspectives are represented, and you are given the chance to think critically about subject matter. Gives you some good anecdotes to relate material to. Overall great
Great lectures, definitely need to read the textbook but other than that easy class
Prof. MacLeod was a good professor overall. He offers a nice opportunity for a grade bump at the end of the semester depending on how much you participated in class. Hes kinda a tough grader when it comes to short answers on exams, so be ready for that. Heavy emphasis on reading the textbook outside of class. Read, participate, and youll pass
I took this course over the summer, so it was fast paced. I would recommend professor MacLeod because he made macroeconomic bearable. My only advice is that you read the textbook since the pop quizzes are based off that. Also, be prepare to do additional reading and make sure you show up to class since the test short answer portion is based off it.
Would definitely take him again, his teaching method is efficient and entertaining.
Macleod is a great professor! He takes the time to explain things in class so that everyone understands it. There are pop quizzes but they are based on the chapters in the textbook he assigns for homework. If you read the chapters, you will do fine. His lectures are great and he keeps them light with jokes and stories. Overall great professor.
He is a great professor who makes class entertaining with his references. You will often be let out early. We did not get through ALL of the material and we had fewer assignments than in the syllabus. He is very understanding about life outside of class and even more so if you make an effort to participate.
Reading isn't demanding but make sure to do it. Put's a lot of effort into making classes enjoyable and does seem to love teaching.
It's very difficult to get all points on the last questions of the exams. He wants a specific answer that you cant find in the book. He doesn't like the book much. class average is b. Hard to get an A. He's a tough grader. participate alot it will help.
The professor is great! The homework and the midterm were pretty easy. I could have done better if I had taken better notes for the Final and if I done more of the readings for the pop quizzes. My tip is do the readings. Overall, I was happy with my grade :)
Professor MacLeod is an amazing professor. He opened my eyes to a concept that I never once had appreciation for. His lectures are really engaging, and he has profound skills in breaking down concepts no matter the complexity. One piece of advice I can give is that reading is important for doing well. Take him for Econ you won't be sorry!
He was a really good teacher, especially for an 8 week class. Make sure you read the textbook chapters for the quiz! Other than that, the homework, midterm, and final are fairly easy and are take home.
Professor MacLeod is an amazing professor. He is always thoughtful of us and explains the lectures in great detail. He doesn't make the lectures hard to understand and he draws and/or illustrates great charts to go along with the lecture. He is easy to go up to and talk to and gives advice as we need it. I would strongly consider him for Econ.
Professor Macleod is a very smart man because he knows his things about Micro and Macroeconomic. I enjoyed his classes even though its a 2 1/2 hours long. His lectures and stories are very interesting. I personally don't take notes in class but if you want get an A, just listen to his lectures in class and read. Exams are take home :) - KN
Gary MacLeod is the best economics professor at NOVA. I took him for macroeconomics and microeconomics. I highly reccomend him!
Mr. Macleod is an awesome professor. He tells you exactly how to get an A in his class. Take home mid and final. Hes very reasonable and very intelligent. Very patient and his lectures are short, sweet and fun. I highly recommend taking his class. I took him for microeconomics m. Should be rated 5/5. Its hard to not get an A in his class.
Prof MacLeod is an amazing economist. I dont understand these kids that rated the level of difficulty anything more than 2 bc the midterm and final are take home and you can use the internet and notes to do the work. For someone who works full time this class was a breeze compared to other classes. Easy A no doubt it.
Overall, his class was fair and chill;however I would warn you about the pop quizzes if you do bad you might be affected greatly but I did bad and passed the class with a B. His homeworks and exams are take home. As long as you do good on those you should be fine. Overall he was very funny and cared about us
Great Professor, quizs can hurt you a bit but still can pass if you work hard. Has a great way of teaching, and is understanding of life. The class has a over all nice and calming vibe. Would recommend him.
Professor Macleod is knowledgeable and funny. He makes class interesting. Just do the reading and participate and youll do great!
I am not going to lie, microeconomics for me was incredibly challenging. However, professor Macleod made time for me and gave me advice that helped boost my moral. He does not have office hours because he prefers for his students to make an appointment. He gives pop quizzes but the homeworks, midterm and final are all take home.
Prof. Macleod is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is super chill and laid back, but he is very passionate and knowledgeable about the course. He does not sugar coat anything and is very straight forward. If you come to class, actively participate, and read... you will get an A. His class was a fun learning experience. Great Guy!
I was so lucky to have him for my econ 202. His unique teaching method helped me learn a lot from this class. If you read the assign chapter and follow along with his amazing lecture you will be able to receive an easy A. Overall, i really enjoyed his class and learnt a lot about microeconomics.
Had him for ECON 201 this semester and possibly the best class and the professor I had in NOVA community. Very interesting lectures with student engagement. But dont expect for an easy A. As long as you take good notes and read the textbook, youll have no problem getting B or higher. Pop quizzes for the chapters so beware of that as well.
Few pop quizzes throughout the semester but its very straightforward so as long as you read the textbook, youll have 0 problem getting B or higher. Exams are take home and he gives good amount of time to finish it. Do participate during his lectures because some of the short answer questions are based off of lectures.
I would definitely recommend this professor for Principals of Macroeconomics. He may ask to read a lot, but his class is truly on of the best out there. Highly recommended.
Favorite professor at nova. Do what a normal college professor would ask for (attendance and actually read the material) and you'll do just fine. A's are earned, as they should be. Just make sure to take notes and read, you'll do fine. He's very knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have.
very kind teacher who really cares about his students and is passionate about Economy. He makes sure everyone understands the subject and is always accessible through email to answer any questions. very understanding and accommodating to students emergencies. As long as you show up, participate, and do the work you will pass the class with ease.
I loved going to his class. I never thought leaning economic was fun until I took his class. Take home homeworks, exams and final. Few things you need to know to pass his class: - TAKE A GOOD NOTES- You will thank you notes later for exams and final - PARTICIPATE- Make sure he remember your name - Read the extra articles (provided by prof.)
He is a great guy and uses the textbook to teach/lecture. His lectures are long, yet very informative and you truly do learn a lot. Reading is a must!! I hated the quizzes, so make sure to read. Make sure to do the HW, take notes, and participate. He is understanding and will try his best to make you learn and succeed in the end.
If you can take a class taught by Professor MacLeod then take it. He completely changed my perspective on economics and economic concepts. The class is an easy A if you study and read the assigned readings, but you should really pay attention to what he teaches. If you want to run a business or have anything to do with economics then take him.
Pro. Macleod is very good at explaining the materials. Beware of pop quizzes. Lots of reading. Lets all the homeworks and test(EVEN THE FINAL) take home. Gives enough time to finish them. We were allowed to use any source except copying from someone else to finish those HW and exams. But he is a TOUGH GRADER! A great professor. I would recommend!
This class started out fine, there is a lot and I mean a lot of extra reading. You will be tested on this extra reading. Preparation, grading, and communication fell apart. Things were mislabeled, the final was released late, grading did not tell you what you missed and took up to 2 weeks to be graded. will not be taking this Prof. again.
Prof. MacLeod is very knowledgeable and has passion for this class. He wants you to be able to think about a topic and talk about it rather than give a yes/no answer. There is a fair amount of extra reading in addition to the text book but this is made clear at the beginning and is manageable. Feedback from grades would have helped.
A knowledgeable free-market economist teaching a mandated Keynesian curriculum, which makes for an interesting course that considers both perspectives. There is a fair amount of reading but it's not too conceptually difficult. Take-home mid-term and final exams, multi-choice and short answer, no essays. Homework all multi-choice. Attend lectures!
Had this professor during the pandemic 2020 and it still turned out to work out fine. He works with you and expects everyone to pass. There is a lot of reading. Most of the assignments are take home which is nice but prepare for pop quizzes that can hurt your grade if you don't do good! Overall nice professor and would highly take him again
If the time is taken to read upon the textbook, you will most likely pass all multiple choice quizzes and exam portions. Engage your critical thinking. If you have a wide understanding and vocabulary of English, it'll be easier to discern between economic terms and able to define their practical usages indefinitely. Listen well and ask questions.
This Prof has not adapted to the online format. He was very open about his bias towards one school of thought, and indeed spent a significant amount of lecture time talking about why the textbook is wrong. Not engaging during lecture. Posts HW late, and does not grade in a timely manner. Would not recommend anyone take his classes
One of the good professors out there. Show up, take good notes and you will pass. He tries to explain things very well so the students don't have a lot to worry about. You've got a problem? Talk it with him and you will be fine. I would take him again and again and again and again.
Fairly easy if you pay attention and read the material. Interesting in-class discussions: Curriculum follows majority philosophy of economics (Keynesian economics) but professor follows a different philosophy (Hayekian economics). This class will give you a solid foundation in Both viewpoints, both of which Ive found useful.
Wow! If you read his syllabus carefully and do as instructed, MacLeod will be the BEST professor ever. This class has been so fascinating, and participation really helps your grade out. Beware a skipped reading, you'll be SO lost without the book! Super cool professor, learned so much from him. 10/10 would take again.
Professor Macleod is extremely knowledgeable in the content that he is teaching. He encourages students to think independently by offering differing points of view other than the NVCC assigned study materials. Not only is he a great instructor, he is very passionate about the material being taught. He genuinely cares for his students' success.
Professor Gary MacLeod is an amazing teacher! He is THE go to choice for Economics. He provides a level of insight that is very sought after and rare to come by these days. He will give the most eye-opening lectures, insuring you will be captivated by the topic at hand. Don't skip on the opportunity to take a class with him, you won't regret it.-ZK
Professor Macleod is a GREAT professor and wants his students to succeed. Don't think you'll be able to pass if you join the lecture and fall asleep. His lectures are long but very easy to understand. There will be pop quizzes but he lets you know know ahead of time. 2 exams and 5 hw assignments. Everything is take home and mpc. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Prof. MacLeod is so good! Although I must say I was struggling at the beginning because I am still learning English, but I got to learn so much from him. His class is easy if you do read and follow along with him and do hw, take home midterm and final.. what else can we as for? I would definitely recommend him!
I should've heeded the previous negative review's advice. Half the class is him complaining about other schools of thought, Venezuela, Bernie Sanders, you name it. I feel like he should present all schools of thought from a nonbiased stance, weighing the pros and cons instead of slandering those who disagree with him smugly. Just my opinion.
Half the class is him complaining about the economic school he doesn't believe in. He is extremely biased and does not shy away from it. This class is basically Unfettered Capitalism 101, and if you don't like it, too bad.
Prof Gary MacLeod is a nice person. However, the way he teaches and the way he manages the class is not that good and confusing.
Professor Macleod is a real gentleman. He wants students to learn the economy, to think critically, and to pass the course with a good grade. He wants you to participate in class, and it helps with your grade. Tests are not super difficult. Just pay attention and you will be good.
Professor Macleod is very very passionate about his class and you can see how much he wants to get his point across. For the workload, I recommend paying close attention to what he's asking of you in order to pass. The class had pop quizzes which are timed so know you stuff!
Prof. MacLeod is an average professor. He answers all of your questions and makes sure you understand it all. Throughout the course we had 4 quizzes (10 questions, 10 min sharp, you wont have enough time to finish so you better hurry). 50 in each final and midterm take home but not easy. I worked pretty hard for this class and ended up getting C.
Follow syllabus and read ahead of class! Reading is key to get a good grade with him. Take home midterm, & final. Prof MacLeod teaches an ideology that counters the one used in the book/govt right now. Be ready to hear things that will challenge your preconceptions. If you keep an open mind and consider both sides, you will learn a lot. -P
Professor Macleod is a great person and is very genuine. He is very educated and really knows what hes talking about. You will learn everything you need about economics and get real world help. This is my second semester with him and i would take him again in a heart beat if i could!
Professor Macleod is a well educated in what he teaches and is straight forward. Exams do tend to get tricky on the free responses so always make sure to ask to go over them the class before an exam because it will help. Do ALL your homework, stay in class for the pop up quizzes, and you will be fine.
I think Professor MacLeod is a great professor, but if you do not like to read or participate I dont recommend taking him. He is easily accessible after class and communicates extenuating circumstances with the class in a timely manner. Overall, great Professor and I would have earned a higher grade if I would have been more ontop of my readings.
I have been In NOVA for two years, but this professor is the worst. He doesn't grade the assignments which is hard to keep up with the class. i would give him 0 rating. he always complain about something so he will not grade our assignments. Please do not take this class with him>
Passionate about economics, and has very engaging discussions. Highly recommend you participate, as he'll adjust your grade at the end of the class if you do. Pop quizzes at least once a week, told what they'll be on. Short answer questions on exams are hard! He is a tough grader on those. Good class.I'll be taking him again in the Fall for Micro.
I recommend you take this professor when browsing over economics professors at NOVA because his style of teaching. He is extremely passionate and you can tell he actually loves teaching on this matter! take him, you will for sure pass.
Great teacher! I thought this class would be an easy A, but Im not so great with short answers. They really dominate test scores, which really dominate the overall grade. However, Professor Macleod does a really great job of helping you understand the material. 10/10 would recommend, and I wish I wasnt a transient student b/c Id like him for 201
i would never recomanded this class to anyone!!!! i regret taking this class because his rating was good. The worst professor in NOVA
don't recommended. the worst professor. i dont know why is rating is 4.5 it should be 1.5!!!!!!
Took him for 6 week class of macroeconomics, very passionate professor can take a little bit of time responding to emails but is willing to help out a lot I really enjoyed his class
I will not say the material is necessarily easy but Prof Macleod keeps his course very straight forward with clear expectations from the start, which makes the class easy. He is very nice and willing to work with you. Put in effort
The material is exactly easy but Prof Macleod keeps his course very straight forward with clear expectations from the start, which makes the class easy. He is very nice and willing to work with you. Put in effort
It was an easy class. If you read the textbook and understand the material, it will be an easy A. There were pop quizzes here and there throughout our semester, I had a total of 4. The final exam was open book and take home, we had 4 days to do. The pop quizzes are easy if you read the textbook and there are pretty simple straightforward questions.
I recently finished taking Prof. MacLeod's Eco 202 course and I had a great experience with him. The way the class was laid out and taught was clear and he was always open to questioning and discussing topics. He was fine staying after class to clear up any issues you were having and tried his best to make sure everyone understood the topic.
If you want to learn real-world economics. Take him!
Excellent professor. Everything that is on the exam is taught in class. Interesting class with real world examples to help students understand. Highly recommended.
Engaging, knowledgeable. Concerted effort to reach all students. Approach to teaching is clear, cohesive, well rounded. Greatly values student participation, welcomes divergent ideas, is accessible to students. His primary goal is to teach the powerful logic of the economic way of thinking, he does it passionately. Excellent intro to micro-econ
I've taken Prof. MacLeod twice. He is a really good professor. The material isn't exciting, but Prof. MacLeod helps make it easy to learn and provides real world examples to help students understand. There is a ton of reading, and 70% of your grade is based on the 2 exams! In addition, participate! He will boost your grade by a letter if you do!
Prof. MacLeod is a good professor; he goes into the topics in detail in class and encourages students to participate and ask questions. If you participate a lot he'll give you extra credit at the end of the year. The assignments and tests weren't bad, just keep up with the reading! Overall he's very nice and clear with his grading.
Very concise and clear class, very straightforward work with very meaningful lecture time. Overall laidback class and professor, get ready for random pop quizzes though.
He keeps the class very interesting and engaging and I highly recommend taking this course with Professor MacLeod.
Pretty entertaining guy, Microeconomics isn't too hard as long as you actually do the reading. Pop quizzes during class so make sure to actually go. Very fair and understanding.
Gary MacLeod was wonderful! He is always willing to help, and you will enjoy yourself while learning a lot. In class, he gives a good insight into the subjects and invites participation and questions from the students. He grades really well and is quite clear. Overall, he's a fantastic professor and I would strongly recommend him.
Prof. MacLeod is a caring and knowledgeable professor. Grading criteria is straightforward (pop quizzes, take-home exams, and homework). He's open about his disagreements with Keynesianism, but fair and respectful of opposing views. His class structure welcomes participation and he's an engaging lecturer. I've learned a lot about econ from him!
Bomb teacher
I would recommend Professor Macleod to anyone; he made the learning experience much more accessible. Many real-life examples were used to get a clear understanding of the topics discussed. Exams and quizzes were straightforward and manageable. If you participate in class, it will significantly help your grade.
Gary MacLeod was an amazing professor I learned a lot from him he is always willing to stay after class if you have any questions or need help he's understanding and I highly recommend you take this course with him!!
He is the best! with clear grading criteria; 4 open book homework, Mid & Final exams, and 5 pop-ups & closed book quizzes. I liked his examples. They are from the real world and will give us the 3rd eye to look at our environment and understand it from an Economics perspective. Don't forget to participate and ask questions; it will aid your grade.
Professor MacLeod is a better economics professor than most economics professors at big, 4 year universities. I've learned Micro/Macro economics at community college and a 4 year university. The only real difference in the courses is the professor. 100% recommend taking MacLeod's class if you're looking to take a Economics class at NOVA CC
His class was ok. He gave a lot of extra credit which helped out a lot. Although, his zoom meetings were not enjoyable. It felt embarrassing to talk. I get that he is trying to correct our mistakes but it's almost like no one is ever right no matter what. His test grading was confusing at first. It's hard to understand why points are taken off.
For any students taking ECO 202, I recommended taking it with Him because he cares about his students and wants what's best for them. to pass his class , just attend the lectures and study them.
Professor MacLeod was an excellent professor. Most notably his lectures were thorough and he pushed the class to interact with him. The only big thing about this course was that you did need to read before class to prepare for quizzes but they were free points. Additionally, the professor is very accommodating and flexible.
Phenomenal professor, very knowledgeable about what he is teaching, lectures are not death by PowerPoints. There are pop quizzes in his class sometimes but he tells you in advance what chapter they are on, if you did the reading you'll be fine. HWs and test were super straightforward and easy, still had a few complainers in class somehow.
I learned a lot but it is a fairly easy course with only a few graded assignments so take your time on them.
I recommended taking it with Him because he cares about his students and wants what's best for them. There is going to be pop quizzes but if you do the reading it should be easy. Also PARTICIPATE he will give you some points at the end of the semester if you do. Otherwise great professor would definitely take him again if I could.
No slideshows. Lectures cover assigned readings in-depth. There are four in-class pop quizzes per seven-week course. Quizzes are mainly definitional. If you do the assigned reading, you should get around an 8/10. He rewards without penalizing participation. Encourages discussion. Advocates for capitalism. Tests are multiple-choice and short-answer.
Great Econ class. It was never a boring class, which sometimes econ classes can be. Professor was clearly passionate about the subject and facilitated interesting class discussions. There is a lot of reading but it helps with understanding the subject.
The best way to take ECON201 and ECON202.
He is very passionate about Economics and he gives great lectures. You must do the required textbook readings because you will have pop quizzes on them occasionally which will be a decent chunk of your grade. He gives extra credit just for participating (asking/answering questions) in class throughout the semester.
Would've wished there was more understanding and compassion from this professor.
By far one of my favorite classes I have taken at NOVA. He does a fantastic job of keeping his lectures interesting. He always answers all the questions and is extremely easy to work with. All exams are open-book except for the weekly quiz I can't recommend this professor enough. if you really want to learn from a wonderful Professor, take him!
By far one of my favorite classes I have taken at NOVA. He does a fantastic job of keeping his lectures interesting. He always answers all the questions and is extremely easy to work with. All exams are open-book. I can't recommend this professor enough. if you really want to learn from a wonderful Professor, take him!
Professor MacLeod is wonderful! I was very nervous because I took the 7 week class. But if you pay attention during class (or watch the recordings), read your textbook etc. you will do well. I highly recommend anyone reading this to take his class, I promise you will not regret it!
He's very knowledgeable and made the class easy to follow. We read two chapters each week along w/ additional reading provided for further understanding. There are pop quizzes but he tells you what chapter to study. Exams and homework assignments are open book and points are given at the end of the semester for participation. I'd take him again.
Very passionate about the subject. Made what could have been a very dry class captivating. The assignments and tests can be difficult, but as long as you do the reading you'll be fine. Participation and attendance is taken into account with your final grade.
Very passionate about the subject. Made what can be a dry subject captivating with relevant information. Assignments and exams can be difficult, but you'll be fine if you read. Participation and attendance taken into account with your final grade.
Economics can be a bland topic, but Prof. MacLeod made it enjoyable. You have to be ready to pre-read the textbook and the recommended reading to succeed. The tests were tough, but the professor gave you the information needed to succeed. I have definitely learned a lot this semester, and I highly recommend taking one of Prof. MacLeod's classes.
Professor MacLeod is awesome. He is very caring and you will be rewarded if you show up to class and participate. There is a 50/50 chance that you will have a closed-book quiz at the beginning of each class, so be prepared. The homework and exams are open-book and take-home, which is AWESOME. Although the lectures are long, I would take him again.
Gary MacLeod is a great Professor. His lectures are interesting and his class easy to follow. Textbook is required and additional reading are provided to get prepared for quizzes. Homework and exams are multiple choice and short answer. Super straightforward. He gives extra points at the end of the semester for Participation.
Professor Gary Macleod's amazing capacity to offer clear and enjoyable lectures has truly amazed me. His teaching method combines clarity and depth, making difficult topics understandable to all students. I am grateful for being able to study from such an excellent and dedicated professor.
profGary was honestly the best professor I've ever had. his lectures are very fun, keeps you engaged all throughout. he would say attendance is not graded, but was very crucial to me. he has a pop 10 min quiz every other class, if you do the readings you're good to go. mid-term and final are fair, always there to help and always very understanding.
This was an on-line class w/ lecture & class discussion. There were closed book timed pop quizzes. If you listen to the lectures, do the homework, take notes on the lectures & do ALL the reading (there is ALOT of reading) you will do ok. He likes participation so if you participate, he will take that into consideration on your final grade.
At first, I was hesitant to take ECO 201, but the professor made it easy. His lectures were informative, and exams were open notes. I highly recommend him. He cares about teaching you the importance of macroeconomics. You will get an easy A if you do the HW and pay attention in class.
Professor Macleod is an amazing professor! Take his class if you would like to learn REAL economics. I plan to take him for ECO 202 as well. Overall he is a very practical and great teacher. As long as you do the readings you should be successful in his class.
Not good beware do not take his classes he is rude and does not even teach well.
I was initially worried but faded fast with Prof. Macleod's amazing teaching. Micro topics are clear thanks to his enthusiasm. Just 4 HW, straightforward. Expect 4-5 pop quizzes, easy midterm and final, both TAKE-HOME ! Just keep up with textbook readings for the pop quizzes. I 100% WOULD RECOMMEND FOR ECO 202 AND 201!
Professor Macleod is highly knowledgeable and engages well with students. Participation is encouraged and valued in the classroom. He offers clear grading and even provides extra credit opportunities. Overall, I enjoyed studying in his course.
He is a caring professor who genuinely cares for his students. He is good at Economics and understands his content very well. Hard work and learning is rewarded, so make sure you show that! I would highly recommend taking his class.
He teaches students to think critically and objectively about the economy and world. He is very kind and loves when students ask questions. He gives a lot of real world examples relating to the content which makes lectures interesting. Make sure you stay on top of textbook and additional readings. Course was neither too easy nor too difficult.
Professor MacLeod is an exceptional microeconomics teacher. His clear explanations, engaging teaching style, and dedication to student success make him stand out. He fosters a positive learning environment and is always available to help. Highly recommend!
The professor is decent. Attending class is important, asking questions and being recognized by the professor is crucial. Take the time to read the chapters on the textbook to help with the pop quizzes. Overall, my grade on Canvas was a C but on the transcript is a B. I believe it is due to my participation and consistent attendance in class.
Solid professor with good lectures. A lot of textbook reading is needed to succeed. Fair grader and nice guy.
Professor Macleod is very thorough and gives great lectures that explain course concepts in a practical and understandable way.
Goes into depth which is nice, but to prove his point he makes jaw-dropping wild political statements. For a first-timer learning economics, it felt like a 500-level university class. Also, he can be VERY rude. If you really want to major in economics, this class is for you. Pop quizzes every other class, 4 homework, midterm, and final.
Professor MacLeod is a wonderful professor and extremely knowledgeable! Take him if you want to learn real world economics. He presented balanced political perspectives when discussing Econ. I started out struggling in this class, but it pays off to do the readings, participate, and pay attention in class. I learned so much from Professor MacLeod.
Prof Gary is good. he is lectures are amazing, his class is not boring. You gonna have 4 quizzes, 4 homework, 4 pop quizzes. midterm and final. Be ready to read the chapter before the class if you participate he gonna add your points at the end of the semester. Good luck take him you not gonna regret it!
Your rating could be removed if you use profanity or derogatory terms. Don't claim that the professor shows bias or favoritism for or against students. Don't forget to proof re
Prof. MacLeod is one the best professors at NOVA that I ever have. He is very relatable, I don't know what other people think, but I always feel like he gives the father vibes, or like uncle vibes; like somebody from your family:) not just a random guy from the street. He cares about students and dont just leaves the student hanging out there.
Good professor, smart, funny, but be sure to read.
Prof. Macleod really knows his stuff: I learned so much in his class! He really cares about his students and is always available to talk and help you get on the path to success. Incredibly engaging lecturer and just a nice guy. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better Econ professor!
Easy going professor, if you participate and understand the material it will be an easy class.
Professor MacLeod's ECO201 class is engaging and practical. His lectures are informative, and he encourages participation. The textbook is essential, but using study tools like unstuckstudy ai can also help with prep. Overall, a valuable learning experience.
Prof. MacLeod took a topic I did not care much about and made it much more intriguing and interesting (an important quality in a good teacher). He was great at being approachable and getting to personally know those who reach out to him. His work level might seem intimidating but is actually manageable if one puts in the effort and asks for help.
Recorded the lectures, was very knowledgeable and helpful.
He was a good profesor overall I would take him again, just be ready for pop quizzes.
He is very clear in his expectations and adheres to them. Hi is very knowledgeable in his field and presents information in a way that is easily digestible.
He is the best Econ Professor! He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He knows a lot about economics and he really explains everything in depth. I learned so much from him!! His exams are open book take home. There are pop quizzes so be prepared to do well on them and they are easy. Overall, he is the bestt!!
Chill professor. Mr Macleod came in, and knowing the time lost and all the obstacles ahead, he went ahead and took care of all of us. He was very knowledgeable about the subject and allowed the midterm and final to be taken home. He also gave us quizzes and homework, all of which were easy as long as you did your reading. I recommend him.
I couldn't recommend him enough honestly, he is a very fair grader, his assignments are pretty easy and gives us a while to complete and turn it in, he is also very personable and kind. he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to pass. I wish i could've had him for Microeconomics next semester. take his class you'll be glad you did.
Took as a zoom, quizzes during five of the zooms. Does not accept late assignments. On tests, half of the short answers come from stuff talked about during the zoom/outside readings so u have to pay attention to what he says. Course load is easy but if you're looking for a class u can nod off in and get an A he isn't for you.
He is a good communicator. Always respond on time. Amazing teaching skills. very profound understanding of the subject.
I couldn't recommend him enough, just take his class. Very kind and caring and willing to help always. Very personable. He definitely cares about his students. A lot of material is covered but the work is easy as well as quizzes and tests, just pay attention. I wish I could've take him for microeconomics. Great professor overall.
make sure to do the reading before going into lecture so you can ask relevant questions.
This professor is excellent at lecturing and provides great materials. He offers extra credit, straightforward grading, and open-book exams. Assignments allow ample time to complete, and lectures align directly with exams and homework. Attend class and pay attention, and you'll pass with ease, no surprises here!
I didn't like attending the classes and there was so much clout instead of lecturing. Kept mentioning his RMP ratings a lot... The tests are manageable especially since they are take home tests. He gives out quizzes randomly so you have to study before each one.
Great Professor! Easy to follow, very common sense down-to-earth lectures. Takes the time to make sure the material is understood using examples and material outside the textbook. Definitely would take again.
Prof MacLeod is an outstanding instructor. Great lectures and a straightforward workload. There are pop quizzes, so the readings are important, and participation makes a big difference. I wouldn't recommend for slackers, but if you're into Econ and want a great teacher that will prepare you for higher level courses, take Prof. MacLeod! 10/10!!
Good professor, lectures are pretty easy to understand and learn and he engages with his students. As long as you read and do the homework you should be fine taking the exams & pop quizzes and I do mean pop because you don't know when they're coming. I passed with a B+ his class wasn't hard at all however you do have to read A LOT.
Prof MacLeod is an excellent professor and gives good lectures. The course is reading heavy but its economics, so that's expected. Beware the quizzes, but they are telegraphed about the content so they aren't too daunting. I would recommend anybody take this course; I found it very fruitful. He is also quick and happy to answer questions.
He was a great professor, he is funny and he cares about his students. He is very easy to get a hold of outside of class if you have questions. I would recommend him for any class he's understanding in personal matters. he does require textbook but he goes over it in class and every assignments is based off the chapters. Just listen you'll pass.
This guy is awesome, I enjoyed his lectures. He really made economics interesting for me. Would recommend.
The professor delivered an outstanding class that was clear, engaging, and easy to follow. I would gladly take another course in the future.
Prof MacLeod is an excellent professor. His lectures were engaging and is class was very helpful. Take him and you wont regret it.
As long as you are engaged and participate during lectures as well as read throughout the semester you won't have any issue passing the course.
I took Mr Macleod for ECO 201 and I would highly recommend him as he has a huge knowledge in the subject.
This class was an amazing class. We learned important subjects in economy and I really recommend to take it with him.
Easily one of the most calm and relaxed classes and professors I've had at NOVA. He's very direct about what's expected from you throughout the semester. If you pay attention and have a basic understanding of the reading he provides, you'll be just fine. Just be prepared for a pop quiz every now and then.
Took this class in 2018, now I have to come back to thank him. Thank you professor Gary, I'm making 5k a week by being a monopoly.
Professor MacLeod is a knowledgeable and passionate instructor who explains economic concepts clearly and uses real-world examples to make the material more understandable. He is organized, follows the syllabus closely, and is always prepared for class. He's also pretty fair with grading and open to helping after the class.
Super engaging lectures and clearly outlines what is expected of you to do well in the class. If you show up to class and do the readings you'll have an easy time. Professor Macleod is also very helpful if you're having any troubles!
Professor Macleod is fantastic! Honestly, the only way to not do well in this class is if you really don't try. There are take-home exams that you can complete at your own pace over a couple of days. There are pop quizzes. They're not open book, but if you keep up with the readings in the syllabus, they're pretty easy to handle. Enjoy the class!
He's a great professor! Very chill and doesn't stress students out, which I really appreciated. As long as you keep up with the material and study for quizzes and exams, you'll be fine. He can grade tough, especially on exams. He looks for specific terms in your answers, which can make things tricky.
The only thing that sucked about this class was that it was at 7:00PM.However, the professor also gave a break halfway. Professor Macleod made the class not boring, easy to remember and understand.Out of my 4 classes last semester, this was my favorite one. Grading was clear and I actually understood things and enjoyed the class, did not get bored.
Would 100% take again!
Great professor, had clear grading instructions beware of pop quizzes but you can easily get an A. He teaches his classes very well and makes it interesting! TAKE HIM
He was very easy to work with. Advised and helped me throughout the semester when I was confused or concerned about a topic. One of the best professors I've had all year. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Take this professor if you wish to learn economics and have a great time!! Pop quizzes do catch you off guard first couple of times but if u come in everytime reading the summary of the chapter you will be good! He is approachable and responds to emails
Professor MacLeod will be one of your most memorable professors at NOVA. Make sure you read the textbook chapters to have an idea of the concepts. Quizzes are straightforward & based on concepts right out of the textbook. He opens the floor for class discussions and it enhances the learning environment when everyone is engaged in the conversation.
A great professor I would definitely recommend taking his class, whether it was in person or online. His lectures are super helpful and useful.
Prof Macleod has a deep understanding of Econ and shares his knowledge and passion in an unbiased manner. Pay attention and participate in class, do the book reading and extra reading, use your notes when you can.
Amazing Professor. He has a good sense of humor and makes class interesting. Pay attention in class and do the reading. He also helps you with your questions after class and over the email as well. Will recommend to everyone.
I enjoyed his class. The lectures were almost conversational and fairly easy to follow. He does get sidetracked talking about politics and the current national debt, but I think that politics and economies are intertwined so it's hard to avoid. When he says read for class and to prepare for pop quizzes make sure to read actively and study the vocab
Professor MacLeod, given great lectures, clear instructions with all the tools needed to complete the assignments. The course required you to read to understand the material. If you haven't any knowledge of Economics when entering Professor MacLeod class, don't worry your will after the course. Thanks Professor Macleod for great exposure in Eco!
Professor MacLeod is a fantastic microeconomics instructor. He explains concepts clearly, ties lessons to real-world examples, and keeps students engaged. One downside is the occasional pop quiz, but he's always transparent about what material to focus on, so you're never caught off guard if you keep up. Highly recommend!
Mr MacLeod is amazing. In-depth lectures with real-world examples and breaks between the hours. Pop quizzes to check your reading comprehension before covering the material. Take home midterms and finals. Homework is open book and all short answer questions can be answered if you listen to the lectures.
Professor MacLeod is an amazing professor. Great lectures and has a strong knowledge of econ. Be aware of pop quizzes, but if you read the chapters before hand you will be good. Make sure to read the chapters and the extra readings he provides. Will be taking him for Econ 202 this fall and he is one of the best professors I've had this year.
I 100% would recommend this professor if you get a chance to take his class! He is super helpful both inside and outside of the classroom. He uses real life examples in his lessons, which is really helpful for me when it comes to learning economic concepts. I retook microeconomics at NOVA because I didn't do well in my AP Econ class in high school.
Professor Macleod is great. It is a reading heavy course, but really is the best way to learn the material. Gives clear instructions, just follow them and you will do just fine.
This class was one of the easier classes I have taken in NOVA, Professor MacLeod was very lenient with this class. It was straight-forward from the beginning, he has pop quizzes from the reading materials, homework's are multiple choices, both midterm and final are take-home. If you put 1% of effort into this class, you can expect to get an A.
Show up to class and you'll be fine. Work load was not a lot and he certainly was not a boring teacher. He has random quizzes throughout the semester, but they were not difficult. (Only 4 for my class) overall fun class
Professor Macleod is a great professor, he will help you if you need it. There are pop quizzes that he has but they're pretty easy as long as you follow with his reading. And he does give extra credit just for participating in class. So I would definitely recommend taking him.
An Amazing professor, if you need help he will help you and if you practice in class he will give you a grade bump at the end of the semester. Though he does have pop quizzes but there pretty easy, just follow along with the reading and lecture.
Great professor! Love his motto, "The effort you put in is what you get out of class". Would definitely take his class again. Have taken it twice now. Very straightforward class, you get a good grade if you pay attention and read the material given.
Took this class in summer for credits. Even though it was fast-paced, the professor made sure we learned the material. He gives extra credit for participation and pop quizzes before each chapter, so be ready to read a lot. Midterm and final were open book, but you still need to study cheating won't work.
Took Prof. MacLeod during the summer semester. Everything that is outlined both in the syllabus and the lectures is what happens - don't expect surprises. The lectures are fulfilling, full of examples, and he explains very clearly about the concepts. If you are willing to pay attention and read, then this class will be easy for you!
Professor MacLeod takes his class seriously, so attendance, participation, and homework are important. He is very organized, and he also provides a lot of extra resources to study, like videos, lectures, and others. If you are really interested to learn, you should take his class.
Very kind and interesting man, his classes are very captivating, and he is very caring you can definetly tell he wants all his students to pass his class
Gary is definitely the macroeconomics professor you need. He's a guy who goes beyond just teaching his subject. He really knows what he's doing and strives to ensure that you also learn as much as possible about economics. Definitely a great professor and teacher, highly recommended.
Really great class, he's caring and understanding. Pay attention to lectures and you'll do fine
I really enjoyed taking Eco 101 with him. He is one of the most knowledgeable professors at Nova. Class consists of a few multiple-choice questions hw and 2 test midterm and a final. He also provides outside sources and additional reading. He aslo round ups your grade at the end. Get him if you want to learn and get an easy A.
Really Great Professor, His Lectures are really entertaining to listen to, He is also very caring as if you did not do a quiz on time he will let you take it without deducting any points definitely one of my favorite professors I have taken during my time at NOVA
Pay attention in class and do the reading assignment and you will be fine. Has lots of reading to do, but every is straight forward. He give good examples in class that makes it easy to follow along. Great professor
I enjoyed every second of his class and his teachings; he is a great teacher and a wonderful human being.
Professor MacLeod is an amazing professor. He is funny, interesting, and very flexible. He did not let rainy days get in his way of teaching and I respect that so much. He is very easy to talk to and can go on for days to talk about anything. Classwork is not overwhelming. If anybody tells you otherwise, they just didn't try at all in this class.
Profesor MacLeod is a very good profesor overall. He is straight forward on expectations and how he grades. If it your first ECON class I definitely recommend him. If you do the chapter reading and take good notes on his lectures. You should be just fine.
Great Professor. Lectures were clear and easy to follow, and the material was explained very well. Pop quizzes were fair and manageable. He created a positive learning environment and made the class enjoyable. I highly recommend taking his class!
Gary was a great professor, really enjoyed the class.
I would definitely take this class again! A very engaging professor who has a great way of explaining difficult material. Class participation does make all the difference. Overall took away a lot from this class :))
Good professor. Took the time to teach genuinely and genuinely. Fair grader.
He's strict, but generous at the same time. He has clear expectations and you'll rarely get caught off guard at any point. We had a few pop quizzes, but he let us know throughout the week what we could expect them to be on. He provides several real-life examples of each new concept, making the material easy to grasp.
Took Professor.Macleod for both macro and micro econ. His grading criteria is very clear, if you do the assigned work and pay attention in class you'll do great! He does an amazing job of pulling real world examples into his lectures to clarify tricky concepts. Genuinely one of the best professors i've had!
