It was such an deasy class. Everyone should have Mr. McIlroy. It was an Internet class, we met once a week, just for a grade. Easy work, and he was ALWAYS willing to help whenever any student eneeded it

Has no tolerance for ignorant people; good professor, but don't take him just for an easy 'A.'

I had him for an internet course. The tests and the readin were very easy. He was a stickler for turning things in on time, but he was a very easy grader.

Mac is awesome and we love him. Yay!

If you thought his online class was a joke you had better guess again. This guy has a PhD for a reason. he knows his stuff and you will learn IF YOU TRY! but if you think this is a blow off class you had better fiond someone else. he is anal about punctuation and spelling, etc. You can pass this class even though he is harder. you will learn!

This teacher was very very easy. Maybe because i took it in the summer. He really didn't teach anything, all he did was assign papers and homework some of which he never even collected.

Very intelligent, sensitive, humorous. He expects a lot but he will give a lot. Not for students who are just trying to get by and don't really want to be in school. To those who write that he gives E's and Not Passing Grades, what do you expect? Take a look around you. If everyone passes, then what is your degree going to be worth?

This class is ok. You don't do a whole lot. You write a paper here and there. That's about it. The class is easy; if you are looking for a blow off. If you really need help with the basics than don't take him.

The teacher may seem easy to some but the level of knowledge in the class is so low that the basics must be covered. Those who think it is the easiest are sometimes the same ones who don't know how poorly they are doing. Many fail.

Helped explain how to improve my writing. He showed us what colleges expect from students.

Took this class as 100% online. He made us come to campus twice to write essays. Which defeats the purpose of a 100% online class. He is super anal about spelling and punctuation, when he constantly makes them. His online class was very easy if you can read short stories and take 10 question quiz's on them. If you have to take ENG 131 take this.

I took him for ENG 131 and 132 both online courses. I got an A for the 131 class and a B for the 132 class. I took the 132 in the spring though so maybe that is why I did a little worse than winters 131. He was very helpful and I thought he was very fair. As long as you did what was asked of you then you got good grades. I would recommend him!

Gary rambles a bit about all the mistakes he will not tolerate on the papers you submit to him. Yes he is a boring at times. Once you start writing papers it is all down hill from there. Gary is easy from there out once you can write the correct paper you get the free pass and your done for the semester, you dont have to come back. Good teacher!!!!

His classes aren't for everyone. It's college folks, and you need more than a tuition slip.

I took this online class and didn't know what to expect. Online is not easy and being out of school for 20 years (before last semester) I didn't know what to expect. Overall, the course was great. The material was challenging but interesting. The professor was willing to meet on campus and answer emails, His corrections were helpful.

Great class and teacher. Great discussions for an online class. Stimulating. All opinions are welcomed, but you have to support your points. If the meaning of literature were merely subjective, why would anyone take a class in it? This is an Oprah book club discussion.

This was my first online and my first literature class in college. It was a great experience. I learned so much and read many great authors. The prof. asks challenging questions and accepts your answers as long as you can support what you are saying. Even though I was scared, I'm glad I took this class.

I wouldn't recommend him but I won't pan him either. Had him for an online course. His directions are pretty clear, turn in your work. He did jump off the deep end when it came to opinion-oriented assignments; it's almost like he took offense if your opinion differed from his. Needs to re-evaluate himself and take a break for a while.

I am taking this professor's Introduction to the Short Story class. It's been a great experience. Not easy, as the stories require much reflection. It's all about writing in an online class, and one must be clear in one's expression. Some students don't take the time to check their spelling, their grammar is awful. No wonder they don't get it!

Took him my first semester great teacher. This is a great teacher if you have some liking to English then it should be easy. Overall he's helpful and nice and explains things well.Taking him again this semester and I would recommend him to others.

Great teacher for those who want to be pushed to improve their writing. Even online this class was interesting and well paced. Almost instand answers to questions and quick feedback on assignments.

Online class: Very easy. He explains everything and if there is anything that you didn't understand, just ask and he responds promptly. As an online class you have to be very disciplined in taking care of things yourself (making sure you check due dates, emails, etc.). Great teacher.

He tends to ramble and spend more than enough time on certain topics, but other than that he is a good professor. Don't take this class if you're looking to get by. He is a tough grader, but I don't consider it a bad thing. He pushes you to be the best you can be. Don't use fillers in your writing. Always turn your work in on time.

Simply put. Not for dummies or remedial students. Real college teacher, real college class. You cannot expect to do well if you don't understand the material. This prof will help anyone but he will not accept shoddy work or willful ignorance.

Excellent Prof

I haven't learned anything in an English class in a long time. Not so time. This professor is very knowledgeable and fascinating. Not for students who aren't excited about reading and ides.

An excellent class! Not for everyone, especially for the underprepared and the unmotivated. Or those who think a college class should be easy and a little extra credit will get them higher grades than they deserve. Will definitely accept your point of view if it is persuasive and well expressed.

I am a nontraditional student studying nursing. English was not my a top priority but I have been surprised. I thought college was only about learning necessary skills and getting credentials. But this class is so much more. It is an examination of life, personal belief, and writing as self-expression & discovery. Fascinating professor!

Great Class!!!

Very easy teacher! He only had us read 2 books and this was during the Fall semester! The group discussions are essential to pass, but the quizzes are easy, and the papers are super easy and short! There are a lot of mistakes on his quizzes (grammar and spelling), but he more than makes up for it with his help and making the course enjoyable!

Dr. Mcilroy is an outstanding professor and he is very knowledgable about the subjects he teaches. He treats his students like college students and is very respectful. He will also push you to do your best. I learned so much from him and would recommend him to other students.

He is a good teacher. He gives great feedback on papers and as long as you follow his suggestions you will be fine. You are expected to read but the tests are not difficult as long as you read the books he assigns.

Best Prof I've ever had. I learned many things, especially what a college education is supposed to be.

English is not my major nor my major interest, but this class was great except for a few students who were unprepared to do college work and complained a lot.

Online courses are impersonal. This prof does a good job of making them seem less so. Thoughtful feedback, stimulating assignments.

A few students struggled in this class, but I think these were students who do not know the language or were poorly prepared. How can you understand college-level material if you read at a 7th grade level? I learned a lot about writing and appreciating literature but I had to work hard.

In high school I got A's and B's on my essays but I didn't learn anything. In Dr. Mac's class, I got C's but learned a lot.

Made many things clear that were never clear to me before. Emphasized the importance of clear and precise writing. A real college class.

Enjoyed the class and this prof's style of teaching. He asks questions and expects you to know the material.

I took this online for a summer semester 7 week class with professor Mcllroy. He's a tough grader on essays but overall fair and gives good feedback and lets you know what he's looking for you to improve. There were a lot of short stories to read and quizzes on them and you can't skim them. The quizzes on the short stories are very detailed.

He was very nice and helpful. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OFFICE HOURS. He helps you with your essays and basically gives you the answers, for you to go home and revise the correct way. He is big on grammar, even within a simple email. He cancels class frequently and he extends assignments based on how much the class as a whole knows the material.

Great Prof though the class seem divided between those who enjoyed the material and those who didn't.

If you like to read, to think, and to write, you will enjoy the challenge of this class. Classmates who don't read, or don't read well, do not like this class.

Hands down this is the best english teacher ever. He helps you if you dont understand things. If your late on a assignment he will give you alittle bit more time to turn in assignments. Hes caring and doesnt want to see anyone fail. I would recommend this eng teacher for sure,

I just finished his online class, and it was just what I had expected. He gives good feedback on papers, and always responds to emails. I feel like the negative feedback comes from people that just didnt put in the effort. Follow his syllabus, participate in the discussions, and you will have no problem passing the class.

Answers every question online promptly. Interesting reading selections. Excellent teacher of writing.

His class is challenging and if you put in the work you will learn a lot. He responds to emails quickly and give lots of beneficial feedback on the essays. Participation is a must.

I disagree with other comments on here, it is possible to get an A in his class. Make use of the writing center, put in the effort, and carefully proofread your papers, and you will be fine. I also like the engagement of his discussion boards, and he gives interesting stories to read. I wish there were more classes I could take with him.
