Was a tutor at school before becoming a professor, so he is very clear in explainations, and helps you with anything. If you are doing badly, dont worry, he will most likely bump up your grade to help you out if he knows you have been trying.
He's great : )
he is nice and a great prof.!
HE IS REALLY GOOD TEACHER, HE EXPLAINS REALLY GOOD. I AM GLAD I TOOK CLASS FROM HIM
Great teacher very clear with boring subject matter
class is sometimes confusing, he is a nice guy and knows the subject. classes are boring because accounting is generally lame. i would recommend him for accounting. you have 2 main projects, one of them is split up throughout the year, the other is simple
Sometimes hard to understand but is awsome, and if you get to know him, he is so much better. He cares about his students and his tests arnt bad as long as you know what your doing. Def. recomend.
Cake. the class was touch. i though i failed, but i got a c+
this guy is an awesome teacher
Pretty cool prof. if you have a problem and don't understand that material he's always avaliable to help. must do all work to get a high grade. Must warn u.. class is boring..
Seems alright for a non-accounting major course. Collects all homework for a grade. Some tests, so far so good
Tough guy, likes to trick the upper level classes, but he will take the time to help you and doesn't only look at test scores. He explains things really well.
Great professor. Lots of homework and tough tests but well worth the time. I am very happy I took this class with him.
Very nice professor...wants everyone to do well and explains accounting clearly. No tricks on the tests, and goes over homework examples in detail so you know what you did wrong. Would definitly take him again.
i hate accounting but came out with an a- with very little effort. He realized the people takin the class jsut wanted to get through. Make sure you get all home work done.
best accounting teacher on campus. take him for both 312 and 313 if you can.
Good teacher, wants you to do well.
Class was pretty tough, he scared us coming into the final, but it turned out to be the easiest exam of all. Perhaps because the ones before were so difficult? This teacher I think would be a great asset if they actually gave him an office and a phone number. So he is impossible to get with unless its at class time.
Awesome teacher. Class was easy because of the way he teaches. Tests were exactly what he said they would be. Available for extra help anytime. Lots of homework but it helps you understand the material.
Clear and to the point. If you just stay on top of the work your sure to do fine. He really wants you to do well also.
He is the Best Prof. in the whole CCSU. He teaches to the point and the material is very easy to understand. He wants you to do well and so he'll try to help you out of his way. Take him if you really wanna learn accounting.
took for both 312 and 313, awesome teacher. can seem like a hardass, but just wants to weed out people who don't care. if you show an ounce of effort he will make sure you get through. supposedly the hardest two accounting classes, yet because of him i think they were the easiest so far.
best teacher i've had at ccsu. Teaches material clearly and completely, if you put effort into the assigned work you should have no problem doing well in his class.
Very easy-going and wants you to do well. Includes homework, attendance, and two VERY easy projects as part of your grade to bring it up if you do poorly on the tests. Great teacher- definitely would take again and recommend.
This guy was aweful. There was so much work to do and the deadlines weren't realistic. Very difficult teacher. If you have to take him, make sure you do all your hw and attend every class. I do not reccomend.
Good teacher. nice guy. good sense of humor. Hw and a few small projects that are actually interesting and attendance does count. I would recommend taking accounting with him.
Best Professor @ CCSU. He does give alot of homework every night, and yes there are a couple of projects but a monkey could do them. Always do the homework and go to class and passing will NOT be a problem. Love to take him again and would recommend him.
This was my third time taking this course and this guy was so clear it was great. i actualy understood it and even got B.
The best accounting teacher I have ever had. Take this class. You won't regret it.
Gary Patino is awesome. Best professor. Almost got me to change my major to accouting. almost...
CLASS IS DIFFICULT, LOTS OF WORK BUT ONCE YOU DO THE HOMEWORK YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR FULL GRADE FOR TRYING. TEST CAN BE A BIT TRICKY, BUT IF YOU STUDY YOU WILL PASS THE CLASS.
Had to take this class twice as I had to drop it first time. Like everyone says...go to class and do the homework and you should be all set. hardest accounting class i took but gary is more than fair and does a good job explaining the material.
Gary is the best professor I ever had at CCSU. He has an odd sense of humor, but you'll get used to it. He teaches very well and takes time to make sure everyone knows all of the material. He even holds study sessions on the weekends before exams.
Gary is one of the best professors at Central. If you are serious in Accounting go Gary. Be a good student: read before class, do homework(doesn't have to be perfect) don miss class and participate, he loves when youshow interest in accounting. teaching ACC is his passion eg: holds weekend reviews before the exams (pizza and soda included!)
I personally don't like his teaching style but if you do the hw, go to class you can pull off a B or maybe an A, his tests are multiple choice and problems. If you have any questions he tends to ignore them, he doesn't respond to emails so pretty much there's no point in asking them b/c there will be no reply. Grading wise I think he is strict.
Loved him!!! I hated accounting until I took his class. If you are willing to put time and effort into the class you are greatly rewarded. He is clear,straight-forward, and an excellent teacher. I got an A in his class.
Very good teacher. Explains everything thoroughly. Not boring. Do all of your homework and go to class. You will get an A and have a good understanding of accounting.
His teaching style can get a little bit dry at times. He does a good job of inputing humor into his teaching. Overall he is a good professor to take.
EVERYTHING you learn from him will help you at some point in your life.
Gary is a good professor. He explains things clearly and gives you a chance to ask questions. He does not use the pre-fabricated powerpoint slides! A big plus for me. His class is tough, but if you read and do homework, and STUDY for the exams, you'll do fine. One of the best professors I've had at Central. Highly recommended.
All I can say is that Gary is the gem of CCSU advising and he is, ironically, the most active representative of the CCSU accounting department. Great Professor.
Gary Patino is the gem of ccsu. If you are a student who actually wants to learn accounting, this professor will lead you to success. Great man, classes are extremely fair.
Excellent professor. An enjoyable class to attend as he teaches well. Homework due every class, and just study notes and hmwk to pass tests.
He is very helpful. He gives you full credit even if you make mistakes in your homework, after he covers the home work, what you learned from your mistake become easier to remember. I feel that his class is where I learned most, had no frushtrition and did not waist any time and effort.
GREAT teacher!! He might not be the easiest teacher but he is totally fair. If you do the homework and show up to class you will do fine. He is really interactive with the class, no power points and explains everything really well. This class was challenging but I learned a LOT!!
I regret taking this professor.Acts like a failed parent. Uses entire whiteboard to draw scattered journal entries- no note taking opportunity. No PP's. Makes up examples as he goes; nothing to refer to. Very unclear on assignments, he takes points for things like neglecting to double underline, font, etc. Gets off on playing "God".Patino=no learn
Good class. I learned a lot of stuff and the professor explained things very clearly. I would definitely take his class again if I was an accounting major.
be prepared to work hard
Prepared to work hard as long as you show up and put an effort forward you can pass. I'm honestly not sure how I pasted this semester.
Prof. Patino was a great teacher! I loved how he did not use the power point slides but instead went through the material on his own. He explains everything and tests aren't hard as long as you pay attention and read! Really not that much work, had one project. Actually cares about students. Can't wait to take another class with him!
Doesn't use PP or Wiley plus. Class is much harder than other 313 professors. Good luck, makes you reconsider accounting. Makes up examples and has his own (different from book) method of accounting. Good luck on his tests when the book says one thing and he teaches another
Be prepared to work hard!
Love the way professor teaches showing examples instead of powerpoint, it's easier to learn that way. Class is tough no extra credit and exams are tough. Go to every class pay attention, do homework and read!!Be prepared to work but you definitely learn a lot which is what counts!
Took as a summer class. He assigns a large amount of nightly homework and spends class going over it. Not the most exciting class, but you are learning how to solve the problems. He explains things well. Exams follow the homework and are generally easy-med. No extra credit except a few bonus ques. on exams, and no curves given. Take him over others
Honest take: I put a fair amount of effort into his cost accounting class, sometimes reading the chapter, knocking out the homework always prior to class = solid B. AC 313? I read much more, redid homework before and after class, and tried not letting two days go by without checking back in = ~60 on every exam. I agree with 2/3/12's response, AVOID
He doesn't care about for the students, please avoid him
He is not fair about his grading, alot of homework, lowerst was 5 questions and it due the next day. All the 5 questions are 2 points, which means every chapter carry 2 points. He made his own questions and objective paper carry 20 points. Infact he didn't have time for students. Please don' take hem!
He is the most confusing teacher I have ever had. He'd teach one thing and then his tests had completely different information
Lots of homework and a tough subject. Teacher was clear though and grading was fair. I got a B.
Very easy teacher to follow. He makes you understand the work. He does give a lot of homework but it only helps you understand the material. Would take this teacher again. You have to work for your grade, study, do homework and you will be fine.
Gary Patino is an awesome professor! He is able to take complex ideas and break them down into simple to understand concepts. I would recommend him for any accounting class from the most basic introductory course to the more advanced courses like AC313.
I loved my class with Prof. Patino. He actually teaches & doesn't just read off of powerpoint slides. Had HW, tests weren't too bad, I got an A in the class. Had at least one accounting project, it was last yr. so don't remember all the details. I DEFINITELY recommend him, can't wait to take his class again.
Fantastic professor. Explains stuff very well and clearly, makes it seem easy. Homework every class and one easy projetc.
Most of his class lectures are spent going over HW problems and doing examples from the book. There are three exams in total,as well as a final cumulative exam. The exam problems are based off the homework.
For a three hour class, he will go the full three hours. He takes his time going over homework (homework is due every week) but those homework questions directly relate to your exams. Three exams and one cumulative final. If you go to class, pay attention, and do your homework, you will do well.
My class was from 7:20-9:55. He'll go the whole class lecturing and going over homework, which is fine. It doesn't seem like he wants his students to succeed. You ask him a question and he's very sarcastic with his answers. Email? forget about it. He won't respond. He can be a nice guy but as a professor, I don't like him at all. I don't recommend!
By far the worst professor at CCSU.
Mr. Patino is a very nice man and a good teacher. My only issue is that he doesn't provide an actual exam review. He simply tells you the exam is based off the homework assignments you completed. If class is cancelled, you won't find out until you actually arrive to class and see the notice on the board. Exams don't also follow all homework Q's.
Never take him. If it was in my hands I would want him kicked out of the school because he has such a crappy attitude. He basically gets paid to come to class and give homework and just go over it. Even I can do that at home without a teacher. CCSU business administrators should really reconsider replacing him, who will actually teach.
He does not seem to care much need replacement of him as a teacher. like that other person said the Accounting committee should reconsider bringing a new teacher and replace him badly because he is really bad. Most of the class drops it half way threw because he really sucks. I do pay to go to class to just go over hw. I pay and I do not get enoug
I am really disappointed that CCSU has this kind teachers teaching there accounting courses. Basically its waste of time. I would rather go to a different school to learn it better with batter teachers than teachers like Patino. Shame on CCSU for not reconsidering to get another teacher.
We, all as a community of students are really pissed that we had to drop his class because he does not teach really well. Teachers are there to help but this teacher does seem to care about his students. I would not be suprised if everyone drops his class. really a bad teacher. I also have heard alot negative things about him
we all are writing really bad reviews of him is because CCSU has to open us there eyes and get rid of him. He has gotten complained to the dean before for not being a great teacher. Just because he has worked over for 10 years and the dean has no right to get rid of him is not cool.
I don't understand all of the recent bad reviews. Although his lectures can be pretty boring and dull, he's a good teacher and knows his stuff. Follow along, do the homework, study for the tests, and you'll get a good grade. Not to mention he is a good guy and has a pretty good sense of humor.
tests are 80% of your grade. Tests are like 3 problems. They are hard
Doesn't explain well and his tests are WAY harder than the homework, and they're much different.
Most of the class was was spent on practicing QuickBooks and there was an Excel assignment due every day. Easy course but lots of work. Presentation but no tests.
Easy Course. Lots of work and learned a lot though. Just followed the book's directions for the whole course. Professor Patino reviewed some of the accounting topics which helped on the Excel assignments.
Professor Patino is a really nice guy! But doesn't have the slightest idea on how to teach. His tests are literally impossible. Don't take him for a long late night class, keeps you every possible second with half of it not mattering in the slightest. No notes taken in class, literally goes over homework the entire time and doesn't teach! Awful
Overall he was a great professor. He went over homework every class to make sure you knew how to do it. His lectures were sometimes boring but his sense of humor made up for it. The tests were based off the homework, so make sure you do it. The final was cumulative and it was pretty tough. 3 tests, 2 projects, and 1 paper. Pretty solid teacher.
Patino is a great professor. Tests weren't too difficult and homework is graded at just your attempt. He has a great sense of humor, but he is very serious when it comes to making sure you understand the content. If you think his class is difficult then you should reconsider being an accounting major.
Not a good professor. All he does is go over homework. His lectures are him just reading the intro to the chapter. Exams are almost all of your grade and very hard to pass them, if you go over a topic in class, there is a good chance it will not be on the exam.
overall a bad professor, rude, and extremely sarcastic. he should really reconsider teaching as his calling. basically goes over homework the entire class and goes over problems in the book. your grade is based on 3 exams and a cumulative final. to pass this class you have to study everything because there are no exam reviews.
DO NOT TAKE!!! DO NOT TAKE!!! DO NOT TAKE!!! He is disrespectful. Study your hardest and still not pass. He also doesn't help you understand or pass. Legit the worst teacher in accounting. Only cares about himself. Tests are your grade. He also teaches a different way from the book. Barely anyone likes his class. VERY BORING! bad bad jokes
I would definitely take him again. He explains if you don't understand. There's a lot of homework but it is just to give you extra points. 2 Projects which are fairly easy. Exams can be a bit of challenge, especially the multiple choice. I would get the problems correct and majority of the multiple choice wrong. :-( ... He's a cool professor.
Vey bad teaching style
Patino is a great guy and professor. Yes, there is a good deal of homework but you really do learn from it. He makes sure you understand what is going on, and honestly once he goes over everything in class, it really isn't hard. He may rub you the wrong way the first day of class but don't let him get to you; he means well. Study hard!!
Professor Patino is pretty much the opposite of what the previous person said. They must be one of the students that goofed off, came to class once in a while, didn't read, didn't do the homework. This was a tough subject but Patino explained really well, didn't use the powerpoint crap. Lots of homework. I got an A and I know others that did too.
Very dry sense of humor, but if you feed into it, it's possible to have a good time with him in class. Homework and lectures are directly from the textbook, which is VERY hard to read and boring. Doesn't give any review or study guides for exams, which are difficult. Final is cumulative. You can learn in this class, but it isn't easy by any means
Rigid professor, sometimes arrogant and condescending when talking to students. Everything is independently learned, but he reviews homeworks during class (that's all he does) so take good notes and make sure you understand each problem. Take a different professor if given the chance.
Read a chapter as homework. Patino reviews it in class and assigns problems from the textbook for the next few classes, which he reviews step by step in class. Repeat for each chapter. Take a test every second chapter. Material is difficult and sometimes boring, but this is the major you chose. Never found him arrogant or condescending.
worst professor i have had. You basically have to teach yourself as he assigns homework and then just goes over it but does not go in depth. He stands in the front and just talk to you and does not engage much.
Prof Patino was very straight forward. 3 EXAMS and 1 cumulative final. Weekly homework that must be completed on excel spread sheets and goes over the homework the next class. A caring professor who would actually explain what he was doing rather than assuming the students knew. Definitely would take him again if he taught Acc 212.
Decent professor overall, first class you have to read the chapter before then he goes over it and assigns homework which you go over the next class then repeat. Im only commenting on here because I missed a class and emailed him twice in which he never responded and when I talked to him in class about it he didn't even acknowledge it.
Makes you do homework on chapters the class before he even teaches it(so learn it yourself). Horrible sense of humor and will pick 2-3 students to call on for the whole semester.
Consistent. Read Chapter, Lecture, Hw, go over hw, test. He is almost bored teaching the subject and it comes across during his lectures. He often makes fun of certain students, anything that makes someone different, he will call out. I don't know if he's available after class, because I wouldn't personally ask for extra help from him specifically.
I would not recommend taking this class with this professor. I can promise you it will be the most boring class you have ever taken. He is older and he even admitted himself that he has gotten very unenthusiastic over the years. Its a VERY hard class especially if you dont know what youre doing.
If you pay attention he actually makes accounting very easy. He breaks it down into simple ideas and teaches well. Can be boring but means well and knows what he's talking about. Good sense of humor and very straight forward. Do the homework. 3 exams and final with extra credit.
Patino is able to break down difficult material and make it very simple. Very straightforward man. Can be boring bc it's accounting, but cracks a few funny jokes here and there. Grading is only based on exams and homework completion. Very doable and tests all have 10 pts extra credit for wiggle room. Very smart and wants students to do well.
