he's so understanding and easy

he is a nice guy, you take a quiz every class and they're kind of hard, you have to read between the lines to do good... overall hes good and i would recommend him over that other WITCH that teaches the same class....
Very easy class...I had it one day a week and hardly had to stay an hour into it. All class time you just watch a movie, and if you don't want to watch it it's easy to sneak out. We had four take home scantron easy tests and some very easy papers.
cool class, just read the chapter before the quiz and youll pass the class with flying colors. there's some pretty good movies that your exposed to
The class is worth taking and hes knowledgeable and friendly.

great teacher i recomend
seems to really enjoy teaching, loves movies.Taking this class really changed the way I see film now! In class you see some coolf films, some kind of strange, but enjoyed most
weird cool guy, not alot of work just watch movies just dont come in late once there for 20 mins you can leave. quizes every class day just read before class. watch cool movies its chill
Pretty easy. Read the book before each class b/c the questions are straight out of the book. Don't expect much help from him though. Kinda spacey guy.
Gary RULES! His class is cake. Show up and take a nap for two hours and you will pass the class. You actually learn things if you stay awake though. And if you have him during golf season look forward to more that two classes being cancelled.
Easy class, but not what I thought it would be. If your really interested in film I would reccomend taking a different class, he just shows movies and gives you tests, no real discussion into the elements of film, could have been more interesting. Easy A, great if you don't want to do much work
he was a very nice guy and he offered a lot of extra credit but if you don't read the book your pretty much screwed on the quizzes.
Nice guy, offers lots of extra credit in class and out. Do not be late or he sends you away. Have to read 50-70 pages a week to pass the quizzes that make 60% of your final grade, the other 40% is a final paper.
Really seemed to know his stuff. I never thought I'd like some of the films he showed but made it interesting. Would take this class every semester if I could. Kinda looks like john ritter. Cute!
Gary is one sexy ****
Good guy! Seems to really like teaching and film. Don't be late to class.
whata joke, this guy is the golf coach so he plays around in class with his idiot team...how annoying i thought high school was over, i mean the guy totally favors his team....
Very nice guy; really cares about his students and does EVERYTHING a teacher can do to make sure students get A's. Do what he says and come to class on time and you'll get an A - do the extra credit and theres no way you won't get an A.
Very well versed in film analysis. Hitchcock fan. Tests are straight out of the book, but extra credit is very available. Good hearted guy, but brings a bit of the tough coach love to the class. Can be impatient and short in certain moods. and dont eat corn nuts in class. Seriously.
Great guy! Seemed to be fair to everyone. Unlike other reviews, I thought he was harder on the jocks in class, did not let them get away with anything. Don't come to class late, he will get mad and grill you infront of the class. He really like black and white and and films from other countries, I loved Blue, White and Red (films from Poland).
Great teacher, he has a genuion love for film, a lot of jocks do take his class, but I saw no sign of favoratism!! To get an A in the class all you have to do is show up on time, don't forget your outlines, they really help in the end! Show up for the final, great teacher!! Really shows, what is about film that makes them so interesting!!
this is the raddest class. you have to pay attention and write a boatloas, but is is easy and he offers extra credit so if you goof up, you can save yout butt.
Favorite assignment of all time!!!!!!!! And you watched movies every class. After completing the class I would stop by his office hours and find out what movie was on the slate for that week, and several times ditched calc to watch it. Good movies every
Great guy. Would take him again. Do all of your work and you'll do fine.
cool guy. easy class, just do the outlines! they're annoying but help ur grade a lot, and they're optional. He offers a lot of extra credit! he makes u look at movies in a new light. take this class for an easy A
I liked it alot! Really changed the way I look at movies. Now when I go to a movie with my friends they ask me what I thought about the movie and what the movie was tring to say. All this insight was covered in this class. You have to do the reading and outlines. The final paper is a real test of your ability to employ what you learned.
Before the class I thought the majority of films being released were decent. Now I find a decent movie hard to come by! He totally change my perspective in regards to cinema and I am forever grateful!! Great class TONS of xtra credit so there's no excuse for getting lower than a B. Showed some badass movies too.
Good guy, seemed to enjoy teaching and and his students. Showed a lot of international film, some good, some just ok. Overall, I enjoyed the discussions and the films. I would take other classes he taught. I really have a much beter understanding of film now.
Really great class, easy, tons of extra credit. As long as you attend class and watch the movies you're in good shape. Really awesome teacher, funny, and intelligent.
The only thing i didn't like about this class was that the grade depended on one test and one peper and even though reading the text was extra credit, there were questions on the test that were from the extra credit.
he's funny and he knows what he's talking about, but at times he doesn't make all of the work clear and it seems like everything is extra credit?!
COACHHH !! man he`s the coolest guy out there !! he really helps you out on and off the course !! thanks coach !! it means a lot .. see you soon !! WOMEN`S GOLF TEAM `06 !!
total hotty with a body!!! nice resectable man!! hates cornuts HAHAHA!! awesome hair.... he really knows his stuff about this subject!!
Nice guy...lots of writing and lots of extra papers to help your grade. Simple, go to class, listen to his insight, watch a film, talk about the film, hand in your outline of the reading...you get to use the outlines for the tests, which are kinda hard. One major paper...You really get insight to film. I likes it, would take him again.
really cool guy. just turn in an outline a week and use those outlines on the final exam. with good outlines the final is extremely easy. just go to class and watch a tight movie, talk about it with him and then leave. TAKE THIS CLASS
Gary is a great professor. I unfortunately took his online Cinema 120 class. DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS ONLINE, its annoying as hell. If you appreciate film in the slightest, take his real class. He's very intelligent and I recommend him.
Wow, who was that last person?Must have had a bad day, maybe a bad life. I've had two classes from Peterson...both were great. I learned so much and watched some really great films. Ya, lots of writing...but once you get used to it, not too hard. And you can use your notes on the final.
Gary is hands down the best teacher I had while I was at COC. Even though I was a film major going in, he made me love film even more. Always willing to sit back and talk about films and golf, amongst other things. All his classes are great, not just 120 (I took 120, 121, 122, and 127).
Just watch movies and turn in an outline from a chapter of the book each week. Sometimes he doesn't make work clear such as not including the final paper on the syllabus or giving a handout.
Good teacher, really easy. Watch movies and turn in an outline from the textbook. His grading system is a bit awkward, offers a lot of extra credit. They are not points however, they are "springs like on a trampoline." His words, not mine. Look out for the final though. Make sure to include the movies and directors in the outlines.
This class was awesome! The man knows alot about film. In regards to the class itself, all we did was watch movies! Homework consisted of chapter summaries. Definitely worth your while if you want to learn about how movies are made without being in a stressful class. Easy A if you do the homework.
Easy A compared to math classes a lot of writing I rushed through all the outlines & scanned through all the reading & I didn't learn a thing Take my advice do all extra credit you will benefit in the end trust me the final paper is fairly decent, not as difficult as an english paper just more writing & the movies were bomb, he likes foreign films
Mr Petersons's class is awesome. If, and IF, you went to class, you spent the majority of the time watching a movie, and then had a little discussion afterwards and that was it you could go home. The essays were easy but mentally stimulating at the same time. Easy A class and fun. DEFINATELY recommend for anyone in need of cinema!!!!!!!!!
Good teacher, only one test, three easy essays and a quickie blackboard discussion on each film. Easy A and you get to watch movies!
Mr.Peterson is by far the best Cinema teach I've ever had! You basically watch a film a day and take notes for extra credit. Homework consists of 2-3 page outlines (easy) and your final is a simple essay. If you really love cinema, this is the class for you! Peterson is chill and always keeps it interesting.
Ok, so I have taken two of Peterson's classes; Film Asthetics and Films Across Cultures and both were amazing. My personal favorite was the cultural one. Super nice teacher, really wants students to connect and understand cinema. His classes made me want to Minor in Cinema! Take him, hes the best!
his class was very easy and relaxing. Just go and watch a movie and sometiimes take notes for extra credit. the only hw--outlines from the 8 chapters of the book. only a final paper and final towards the end.
EASIEST CLASS OF MY LIFE! go. watch movies. do one outline per chapter of the book (he just checks for completion). do an essay. so much extra credit offered-not like anyone would need it. i was exempt from the final because i had so many points. SO EASY but also INTERESTING. made me appreciate movies more. take it for sure!
All you do is watch movies in class and take notes out of class
So easy. I hardly studied and still got an A. Homework was finished at the last minute and I felt like I bombed the final. A must take for a GPA boost.
He is a very nice teacher and shows extremely interesting films. The class isn't too difficult, and I really enjoyed the experience!
I took this online History of Film Class that met 5 times. It was so boring and a lot of work, but if you do it all you are guaranteed an A. Mr.Peterson is pretty nice, just be respectful whenever your in his classroom because he will call you out in front of everyone. He says that there is a final and there wasn't, just an additional essay.
omg peterson is simply the best his movies were bomb i will taake him again and again just do all the work and u will get an A
the class is easy a weekly home work assignment. Maybe 30 minutes a week. Its easy, just go watch the movie. And if you turn in all your home work no final & just one esssay
Attend the classes, do all the outlines and the class is cake. I didn't have to take the final because of that. There is one paper which is fairly easy. Other than that, all you have to do is watch movies and he has pretty decent taste. I highly recommend him, especially if you need an easy A.
Fun,easy class that flew by. Show up once a week to watch a movie. You get to leave when the movie's done. Write an outline for each chapter of the book and turn in the following week.Tons of EC offered but you don't really need all of it if you do the easy work. Turn in all the outlines, no final. Just 1 8-10pg easy paper on 4 films. Recommended!
Took his summer Cinema class & it was a piece of cake! Pretty much watch a movie then go home right after. All you have to do is write EASY papers on the movies you watched and just elaborate it to get it to the amount of pages needed & you're good to go! My essays were horribly written but I ended the class with an A! HIGHLY RECOMMEND :)
Pretty fun and easy class. All we really do is watch a movie every class and they are actually really good. The only sort of hard part was the final essay, it was eight pages long (which isn't too bad) but it's kind of hard to put it all together. He is a really good teacher though and I recommend that people take his class.
He is an aloof guy. Does not know or care about his students. He shows amazing movies though. The guy does not know how to teach and does not really teach anything. The final paper and assignments he must have graded tough because I know many kids who got Bs and Cs... its a joke
This class was by far the easiest and funnest class I've ever taken. We only met once a week and watched a movie. Every week you are required to do a 2 pg outline on one chapter in the book, which wasn't that bad. The final paper was probably the most difficult assignment in the class, cause it was 7-9 pgs. The final was pretty easy w/o studying.
Great teacher, fun stories about the history of film. Great class to take over the summer, 2 page outlines where a drag but if you do them he will probably give you a chance to skip the final! Be prepared to write a final essay on a movie and watch cool movies throughout the semester!
This class was interesting. The movies were pretty good, and the outlines were very easy. The final paper seemed pretty boring for myself, but it wasn't hard. He doesn't let you skip the final anymore. It is weirdly difficult so be prepared! You can skip half of it if you do all of the outlines though. I'd recommend him!
You watch a movie, and turn in a summary of that movie the following week. 4 unit papers, 1 final paper. Do what he says and you'll get an A easily.
His class is pretty cool. Get to watch some good movies and of course some pretty bad ones. Do the Outlines each week!!! Easy points and its most of the points in the class. Final was pretty hard cause dont really know what to study but its open notes. Also Paper is assigned at end of class its was very long. Overall Pretty Easy Class!!! Take him
He is a good guy , he is so helpful , his class was very easy
Loved all of his films. I learned a lot, not from him necessarily, but from the textbook, which is required in order to complete the homework assignments. The class is not hard: a bit of homework, an essay, and a final exam. The exam is quite hard though. Be respectful 'cause he won't hesitate to call you out, but he does encourage participation.
He is an amazing professor and does not teach like everyone else. He inspires some creativity with our final paper. And I liked that. I learned a lot. And like this class.
Not a very effective teacher. The class consisted of one outline for each chapter in the text and watching a film in class that mostly doesn't correlate with the chapter you outlined. The final essay was pretty easy along with the rest of the class. Just do the work and you can get the A easily (easy GE & GPA booster).
Super easy class and nice professor. Just watched a film each week and wrote a summary about it the next week. Make sure you write the summaries because it makes the final papers a lot easier.
This class is an easy A. Prof. Peterson is a cool teacher, just be respectful and don't talk when he is lecturing because he gets very annoyed about that. Other than that all you do is chill and watch good movies. Just do ALL of the outlines from the text turn in the final essay. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Easy teacher!Watch movies & write summaries at the end.Homework is outline notes from textbook. If you do all outlines.Maybe you'll get lucky and won't have to do a final test.Just the final paper.Write reviews, themes, reactions on 5 movies he picks for class to watch.
For this class, you need he book to do each outline of the week. DO THEM, they are crucial at the end of the semester. No hw, just outlines and a paper at the end of semester. You watch movies every week. Plenty of extra credit given if needed. LOVED this class
If you get 10 out of 10 on every outline and turn them in on time everyday, you don't have to take the final exam! Good guy, very nice, open to talk whenever and easy work. How could anyone fail??
Very cool Professor. If you do every outline and turn it in on time then he will excuse you from the final. He shows good movies. I also took Cinema 120 and loved that one too. Don't ever be late for his class, he treats his movies like a movie theater and finds it rude if you show up late. He has a final paper and topics to choose from.
He's pretty simply. He cancels so much class though, and when he does, he makes the students cram in movies. It's not that bad but still.
Great class. All you do is watch movies and write reviews about them as well as outline chapters from the book. Follow guidlines for hte final paper and youll do fine. Overall, great professor
He was simply AMAZING! i took his class recently and he was very helpful and ready to help you anytime ! amazing class, amazing professor!!
Great professor!!!!! Watched great movies in his 123 class.. You have to show up to watch the movies. I took 2 of his classes of his this past semester. Easy Classes... Trust me.. Didnt even buy the book... Easy A just do the outlines (cinema 122) movie reviews (cinema 123) each week.. If you need credits take him!!!!!!
Mr Peterson was a rad teacher. I had him for a summer class and watch some okay some cool and some meh movies. But I am not lying when I say this, HE LITERALLY WORE THE SAME OUTFIT EVERYDAY! same blue shirt same khaki shorts and same running shorts
I just took CIN120 for winter 2016. Peterson is easy! You need the book to pass. Really fun professor and you get to watch a lot of great movies! Got an A in the class, easy GPA boost. Final paper was hard but not brutal. I am going to take another class with Peterson in the summer if possible!
Cinema 120 is probably one of the easiest classes you could ever possibly take. Mine was every Wednesday, for 3 hours. All we did was watch movies!!! It was amazing since the movies were always entertaining and his mini lectures were fun/funny. You have to do an outline every week but it's easy, and the final essay at the end is the hardest part.
Easiest class I've ever taken, took it over winter to get it out of the way. Come in, watch a movie, outline a chapter in the book and you're done. Prof. Peterson is the golf coach and he's pretty fun and like to work with you if you do need help. Shows good movies that are actually entertaining, if you have the chance dont pass this class up.
I took cinema 123 for summer class. All we did was watch movies and the movies he chose were not boring at all. All you do for homework is write summaries and Essays to turn in, its easy, no biggie. We had no Final. Easy class :) Teacher is awesome!
If you want to be in class where you constantly have to stay 15 to 30 minutes over the schedule and not learn anything, then this is the class for you.
Take him take him take him !!!
Such a good Cinema professors. He clearly knows what he is doing. He gives extra credits, too. And he'll exempt you in the 200 items final exam if you submitted all the outlines he's asking you to do every week.
Easy A. Come to class and watch a great film and complete an outline every week to be exempt from the final. Lengthy final paper that is easy as long as you follow directions. Personally not a fan of the professor himself, but with 120 students in the class there's little one on one conversations. I would recommend him.
Cinema 123 was an amazing and eye opening experience into the world of minorities in film industry history. Professor Peterson is clear and easy going but also inpires you to be passionate about the films you study. Highly recommend this class! Made me want to look into film scoring.
Great professor. Really makes you look at movies in an entirely new perspective. Class was simple. Show up, watch a movie, and turn in an outline of the chapter assigned as well as a summary of the movie. Do all the outlines and turn them in on time and you won't have to take the final exam. Assigns a ton of extra credit. Easy A!
All you do for this class is do an outline for each chapter if you have 100% attendance and do all the outlines you won't have to take the final. Peterson is very bland doesn't really care about the students easy class though!!
I never released what films were all about till I took Petersons class. Really liked it a lot
This class was great!I learned so much about diversity and how the movie industry has evolved with it. Professor Peterson is very nice and is very clear on assignments. If you write the reviews each week and turn them in you are good. After being in his class I can't look at movies the same way. Now I unconsciously diagnose them which is cool.
Very straightforward and easy class. Show up, do the outlines, watch the movies, and you don't have to take the final. There's a final paper you have to write about 4 films that's 7-9 pages long which is an absolute cakewalk.
Take this class if you need credits!!! The class is very interesting and mostly involves watching and analyzing movies. Just show up and you won't have to take the final, and even if you do have to take it, the amount of extra credit offered will stop you from getting dropped from an A (provided you do them all).
Very easy class overall, especially if you enjoy watching movies. Do all the outlines every week and you won't have to take the final. He does NOT tolerate tardiness and he will make sure you know that. If you're tardy and try to give him your outline he'll basically yell at you but other than that he's pretty cool.
Super easy class. Show up, watch a movie and bring back a printed one page summary of the movie. He assigned about four lengthy papers throughout the semester (approx. 5-7 pages) but as long as you do what he asks, you'll get 100% on every paper. Get involved in the discussion after watching a movie!!
he was an ok professor. hes very strict with cellphone use and talking when he is talking. he sometimes tries to be funny. make sure you have all your outlines saved, every one of them! He might say he doesnt have it recorded on his grade book. it happened to my boyfriend!!
Very easy class! If u need credits or want to boost ur gpa u can easily get an A in this class! Make sure u attend every class & turn in ur outlines on time for full credit & u wont have to take the final. Hes very strict on tardiness so beware of that. Other than that easy class all u do is watch movies
He is a great dude. He cares about the subject matter, and is not about making you take a bunch of tests, etc. This class peaked my interest in pursuing screenwriting. If you don't get an A in this class, then you're probably an idiot. Just do the notes, watch the movies and don't use your phone. The movies he shows are also interesting
Super easy, come to class and turn in your outlines then pick them up when you leave. Most of the time he lets you out early if the movie is done. Knows a lot about the subject and is nice to talk to. He respects your opinion. Don't goof around or be disrespectful in the class, not tolerated. Other than that, the class is super easy.
Very easy class. Just do your outlines and youll be good, wont even have to take the final. Very good movies watched as well.
A ton of papers but as long as you do every outline and turn them in on time. he will excuse u from the final. Also make sure you take his class in the afternoon if possible, the only choice i had was 7:30 AM and he turns off lights during the movie so you may doze off
We always watched very good movies and as long as you turn in the outlines you will get an A and wont even have to do the final. 10/10
I took him for GOLF and it was an easy A. He knew those of us were there for Kinesiology Majors so he didn't really care if we came after we were able to hit a golf ball a few times. He is really nice and funny and would recommend this class for fun or for your major!
I enjoyed it! U watch one great movie per week in a nice theatre on campus, do a 2-3 pg weekly outline on each ch from txtbook (if u do them all on time ur exempt from final exam). Very easy class but Outlines& 7-9p final essay can be a bit time consuming so If ur looking for an easy A there might be other SLIGHTLY less demanding fine arts classes.
This class was a easy A. I recommend students to do all his outlines (there's 11) in the beginning of the year. I used Quizlet to help me. That took all the weight off my shoulders, and all I did for the whole semester was just show up and watched good movies. I was able to focus on my other classes and still get an A for this class.
Easy A, all you do is show up and watch films (very good ones at that). You do weekly note-taking assignments on the chapters which are fairly easy, just do them all and show up for every class and hell let you skip the final. Hes very educated in his field of interest and has a lot to offer his students. Definitely recommend his class.
He is an amazing professor! Make sure to do the chapter outlines and show up to every class and he will let you skip the final exam! Final paper is about a film you choose, that you have to disect scene by scene around 10 pages long and that´s it for the whole class! Easy A and amazing movies he´s showing! 10/10 recommend!
There are a lot of papers but they are no more than two pages. Very easy teacher would very much recommend.
Super laid back. He just wants you to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for movies. He can be quite funny. His cinema classes are scheduled for three hours but oftentimes he lets you go early if the movie is finished. Very easy grader. Super cool dude. It is worth having him as a professor.
Easiest class ever. Took him during COVID and you literally watch movies on Netflix and write an area paper per unit. Easy A.
Good professor. He showed very good movies. It's very easy to get an A in his class as long as you do the work (which wasn't that bad). There is a textbook but I'm pretty sure it's free.
A very kind and charismatic professor who is definitely passionate about films. The workload is super light: you do a few textbook outlines and watch some movies! No quizzes or anything, besides a few mini-quizzes that we had for attendance purposes that were really easy. He does not grade harshly and he also answers emails right away. Take him!
Do the assignments, no quizzes or tests. The final was on what movie you enjoyed, and you wrote it about. The course is impossible to fail unless you miss assignments. He is a reasonable professor and allows late work if there was some reasonable explanation. Take the course; you won't regret it.
Prof. Peterson is such a great professor! I took his Cin120 for elective and decided to take his Cin121 class again! Hes really passionate to teach the history of film! Easy A, just needs to turn in chapter outlines, and one final paper. This class is either u get an A or an F.
Professor Peterson is a great professor who truly loves movies. However, he did not make it easy for us since he assigned more work than it was necessary for a film class. It was truly annoying to hear him complain about the campus not opening back to full capacity and encouraging us to go to movie theaters while in the middle of a pandemic.
I love Professor Peterson! Such a nice man and passionate about film. I loved discussing film with him, you can tell he cares about your thoughts and opinions. As long as you complete the assignments you're good to go. Seriously wish I had more time to take his other classes.
This class was really laid back and enjoyable! I took him for Fall 2020, and we basically just watched movies and wrote about them, and did notes on the textbook. Hes not a tough grader at all, and it overall wasnt stressful!
Not a harsh grader, but does assign a lot of work which can be time-consuming. Watch the movies and do your chapter outlines so you can submit on time. Very insightful discussions on the films you watch, & I enjoyed some movies that were assigned. The only hard part about this class was the final paper.
LOVE PROF PETERSON! Really cares about his students, just wants to instill passion for cinema and you can really hear it when he delivers his lectures. Work ahead to do the outlines, watch movies, and summarize them, that's it. Hardest assignment was the final, but it wasn't hard at all, just time consuming. Highly recommend!
Took this class during the summer and it is probably one of the most easiest classes I have taken. You can tell that Professor Peterson is really into movies and engages in the class a lot. The assignments are mostly about summarizing movies, doing chapter outlines, and the final paper and that's it. If you love movies, take this class.
I absolutely loved his class. One final paper, outlines once a week (super easy if your write them) and this is majority of your grade. EASY A. Super funny and understanding, love to be in his class
There were zooms you had to attend. During the zoom he would give quiz questions that you had to submit at the end of the zoom. The work was to just read a chapter a week and do an outline and to watch the film assigned that week. The textbook chapters are very long. There is a final essay which was not difficult.
this was my second time taking Professor Gary's courses and I love it! he is super nice and funny, he makes going to physical class not boring. I took Cinema 130 which was international films. all you do is read the chapters assigned, write 2 pages worth of notes, watch the movie and discuss it with the class. Final essay is easy as well :)
Professor Peterson is an absolute gem! Cinema 120 was definitely the highlight of my semester, being that I always looked forward to our class times. He is very passionate about his work, and it is so infectious. The coursework is extremely light and holds your interest well, even down to the final. Only downside is that it is time consuming!
professor peterson was great! just like the other reviews, he only really gives you outlines and a final paper due at the end. the assignments are not hard, only time consuming. you can tell he is very passionate about movies! take him if u can!
He will take days just to respond to one msg. Will not grade late assignments. Way too much homework for such an easy topic like movies. Easy class, but with the bad response times and his one word responses I would pick someone else. Response times got so bad at one point had to get the chair of cinema involved. Horrible.
Take this class if you are a STEM major, you will be forced to take a break every week by watching an amazing film (Peterson has good taste). Every week there is a 2-3 chapter outline due (very easy) and then some sort of film analysis, (give the film actual thought, you will receive full credit).
I would recommend his online cinema class! There are required readings and note takings for the textbook that are not too difficulty and essays occasionally. But overall a good guy and a fair grader!
overall easy class. he does not tolerate being on your phone during movies and will point you out in front of everyone. it is important to show up, he does attendance checks regularly based on the film watched in class.
Really interesting class. You watch movies, discuss them and read chapters. Gary is super helpful and he really knows the material. He is a great teacher!!
