Cute and does magic in class
Nice and helpful, but gives too many quizes
The notes are very unclear, tests are worse, GOOD LUCK!
Boring Lectures...makes a interesting topic a snoozefest..tests are hard, long
Tests are very hard... I studied for hours and only got a B- lots of work
Difficult test even when you study for 3 hours-boring
very boring, very hard, can't pass tests even if you study for 18 hours
No Comments
he don't know how to teach, who made him head of the dept. through him out.
RUN! Drop and pick up somebody else
so BORING! ****y notes & hard tests, i love psychology, but not this class:(
He is a very hard teacher, boring and grades hard.
boring and way too hard.
Very hard perfessor, it is like you are suppose to teach the class to yourself. Don't even bother spending time studing for a test, they are very hard. This is suppose to me a gen ed class not a let's see how many people can fail class.
I still don't know what I was supposed to have learned! Everything was over my head. The best thing about this class ... his magic tricks!
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He was a super nice guy though. You have to read the book to pass the class
By far the hardest teacher I have ever had. His tests are insanely hard. You HAVE to read the book to pass. Aviod it if you can. A word of advise, go ask for help on homework. You will get 100% every time!
He was a very monotone professor, bery unenthusiastic about his teaching, the class was hard. I dreaded going to it.
Very hard class! He is really hard to understand. Tests are not even worth studying for; you'll fail anyway. Get out of his class if at all possible!
Speaks in monotone and puts classes to sleep.
So far his lectures seem to be informative, but he doesn't much refer to the book, and its supposed to be introductory.. Much harder than that I believe. For someone who has never taken the course he is expecting a lot. Don't take his class if you can
Very hard grader.
He is very hard to follow during lecture. He jumps between topics/concepts without finishing. He doesn't try to make class interesting. He doesn't teach it as an introductory class and he expects students to have a bit of backgroung in psych. Aviod!
Very Tough and Boring!! I fall asleep everyday and there is no way around it, i haven't learned anything yet and there is a test on the first 5 chapters this week!
He teaches at an 'i'm up here, and you're stupid" level. This is an intro class, hello!! tests are very hard and confusing, he expects way too much from students for an intro course!
At first he was hard to understand, but then you get uesd to the way that he lectures. The class is somewhat boring, but he tries to make it fun with visual examples and exercises.
This teacher tries to make things lively in class, and i give him credit for that, but he expects way to much for intro. students! you never know what he wants, it seems to change all of the time!
good times
Is a crazy man. Thinks he is a psychic. Class is really hard. The tests make you want to impale yourself on the gazelle fountain statue.
Hard, but cool guy! Expect to work!
It was a pretty tough class, but I got a lot out of it, and he really knows what he's talking about.
This class was really hard. He is meant to teach 300 level classes. I didn't learn anything about psyc and I have to take it again!!! Don't take any of peterson's classes!
Supposed to be an intro course, it's not. Expects too much. If you actually ask him for help he can be kinda helpful (if he doesn't havea bias agaist you). He's very rude to certain students. He's not 100% bad;you can get an A.Still, DON'T take him!
He was a horrible teacher, I have to re-take psych and I definitely wont be taking him again!
He has very high expectations, but if you read the book and take notes in class you'll survive. His teaching styles works best with over-achieving, independent students.
Lectures as if everyone knows what he is talking about... tests are very hard...he covers way too much material!
I can't stress how difficult the tests are. I studied for 12+ hours and got a C. As for teaching merely for "overachievers" - I think it's more like people that don't have a life outside of SVSU.
Should have known it was bad when right in the syllabus it says that 40% of the class will fail.He teaches a intro class like we should already know what hes talking about. He thinks hes magic and psychic. Dont take him unless you are and overachiever!!!!
Ok, I was thought to be an over achiever in High School, this was my first college class and it will forever haunt me! I hated it, I listened, took notes and studied- FOR REAL! I got a D, my first for that matter- Do not take him no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!
This is NOT a high school class! If you don't miss class, take notes, and read the book you'll be fine. Plenty of extra credit available. Willing to help outside of class. Study guides available for the asking.
Dr. Peterson is a good professor, but you have to work hard in his class. Attendance is not madatory, but if you expect to get a good grade in his class you better be there everyday and take good notes. He does have extra credit available.
Peterson is a good guy. The key is to talk to him outside of class with questions and comments. he's willing to help, and work with you...you just have to make the extra effort. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE BOOK TOO.
Great guy but, the worst teacher I have ever had. Expects you to know things right off the bat. Not clear and well....JUST RUN FROM HIM! HE WILL MAKE YOU FEEL TERRIBLE!
Worst Psych teacher I've ever had! He's boring, he expects you to know material he hasn't covered yet. He just plain sucks! Don't take him, avoid at all costs!!
Ok, so I don't know what the majority of people are talking about...I loved him! Yes, you had to work and study, but welcome to college people, c'mon! Tests are very straight forward and he's more than willing to help!
Very hard course for being a 100 level class. Tests are very difficult. Must read the book as well as notes. VERY fast pace. Don't get behind in reading or else. Avoid if possible.
Very unclear lectures, writes all over the board in a disorganized manner. His tests were incredibly difficult and it is difficult to figure out what to study for them.
I thought that he did a good job teaching and his class wasn't too difficult.
Very hard teacher expecialy if you havn't had pysc befor. he is willing to help. you must read ahead because he just goes over the most important stuff that you should have already read. tests are pretty hard even if you study your brains out.
Horrible nightmare. This class is extremely boring and the guy rambles on and on and on, talking in circles. Take anyone else if you can!
My declared major was psychology upon my arrival at SVSU, Gary Peterson has changed that. Horrible, enough said.
As a psych major I would advise not to take him. The faculty and staff even mentions how horrible he is for students (ie:counselors, registration help ect)
Really knows his stuff but is hard to follow. He writes things all over the board in no particular sequence so take notes as he's speaking, not before he talks or else they won't make sense! Also, the tests are hard, you really have to work hard for an A in this class.
Just read any of the other comments about him and you will understand exactly what the class is like. If you want a GPA killer take him!
I HATED THIS CLASS!!! He bores you to death, writes things in a disorganized manner on the board, and grades very rough. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you want to fail it! Trust me on this one, find a different professor! He's a great guy, but a horrible teacher!
Most people thought he was hard and boring. Not me. I thought it was very interesting, and if you stuided, easy. I got an A. I am a psych major and did not think he destroyed my learning like others on this board. He provides lots of extra credit.
AVOID... I learned nothing in this class. he is very disorganized with notes and i even read ahead and studied every week.. basically tells you in the beginning that your probably gonna fail. AVOID.. very boring class also..
You have to try really hard in his class. If you go to his office he will help you. There are assignments and extra credit to help your grade. I thought he was an awesome teacher. I learned a lot. Retype your notes and attend every class and you should do well.
First off the class has no purpose and second he rambles on for hours about nothing of any importance or relevence to the actual class and expects you to learn. Test are rediculiously hard avoid at all costs.
He is painfully boring and confusing. Performs random magic tricks during class without explanation. He doesn't really teach, then expects you to know very specific, random info, including his opinions that he stated once during class.
He's not my favorite prof but he's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. He expects a lot out of his students, afterall we are in COLLEGE. He is boring but he isn't out to get his students or anything. His tests are challenging but it is possible to get a gold star.
Horrible Prof! Class is boring & writes things in no particular order on board. Tests have nothing to do with lecture or notes. I read ahead and studied like crazy & still did horrible in the class. Went to office for help & he didn't care to help. AVOID him at all costs!
nice guy, but sometimes can't explain details very well. goes off on tangets and it takes him several minutes to get back on track.take notes as he talks. his tests are somewhat difficult, but offers extra credit, take advantage
Avoid him at all cost! He make things seem very casual and that the papers no big deal, but then he is ruthless when it comes time to grade them. If you have to take psyc 202 be prepared to suffer!
This is the second time I have had him, and I have to say he was much harder this time. He talks all over the place. He is a nice guy though and will help you when you need it if you go see him.
I had this guy two semesters ago and I still cringe at the thought of his class. I hope my unborn children will not be effected.
He seems like a nice enough guy, but the class is ridiculous. When he gives an assignment he doesn't reveal what he's looking for, and when your work is completely ripped apart when you get it back. If you make all of "his" corrections, you still won't end up with a decent grade.
this guy can NOT teach what so ever....
This guy is outragiously arrogant. His lectures are scattered all over the place, and he has an alter ego. You can ask him a question and he will ask you are you speaking to perterson or norstretep (a psych magician). He speaks about weegie boards as if its normal and without asking to cross your boundaries of religion. avoid by all means.
Arrogant magical jerk! Stay away
The first day of class he scared me .........................he hasn't stopped.
I am totally going to fail this class. I have asked for help, done extra credit, read chapters, and showed up to every lecture, and there is still no sign of light at the end of the tunnel. If possible, request another professor and avoid this dude.

This guy was all over the place, watching him write on the board made me want to leave. His tests are hard and so is the assignments. Hes a little whack, especially when he talks about his alter ego. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I stayed up for 17 hours straight to study for his test, and i got a 60%...I am left all alone in that class cause 4 of my friends dropped it while they still could. If u take him, dont plan on raising ur GPA...
He is sort of a scatter brain. Trys to help but is not very helpful. Fails most of his students.
If you get him as a professor, DROP THE CLASS!!! It's not worth your time and money. The first day he said that ONLY 17% WILL PASS HIS CLASS. How rude.
Don't listen to the other people! Peterson really isnt' that bad. He is willing to help you if you make the effort. And, there is some extra credit. If you aren't interested in psych, don't take him. He makes you think outside the box, and at least I liked that. Give him a chance!
The class is completely bogus. This professor doesn't explain things well enough to test on the tiny details, I do try but its really difficult when someone is explaining something to you that is NOT what you really need to know on the test. He scatters things out so you never know what is going to be on the test. Not very organized.
for starters, this guy thinks he is god. he gives you a HUGE, BROAD span of information and then tests you on the most minute things. if you were interested in psychology, DONT take this guy, trust me, you'll change your major.
He is a very difficult teacher, but he knows what he is talking about. He defin. makes you look at things more in depth. You really have to study hard, and understand the material, more then knowing the vocab. If your willing to try you will do find. Ive learned a ton in his class. You have to be willing to put in the effort!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!
This class is way to hard for only 2 credits. He's a nice guy, a bit weird at times. Be ready to study your ass off only to get C's on the tests. good luck...
He made me change my major. Can't stand the guy, stay away!!
Not a good teacher. Smart guy but shouldn't teach. Don't plan on a good grade if you don't like reading the text or taking good notes.
I've had a couple different psych classes that he has taught (not by choice) and the lab actually wasn't as bad as the others. However, he seems so easy going all semester and then when it comes down to a final grade, he catches you off guard. Wouldn't recommend taking him, unless if you have no other choice.
I thought that I was actually interested in psychology before Peterson...or should I say NOSRETEP. He thinks he has an "alter-ego"... creepy, hard, and no help at all. He's a major scatter brained man. spare yourself and do NOT take his class...please.
This teacher sucked!!!!!!! I thought it would be an easy class but I had to work REALLY HARD just to pass! Do not take him. Spare yourself the misery! And Nosretep is really creepy.
he is very hard. do not take him goes all over and is confusing. try to stay on all point to pass this class the majority of a 30 person class about 10 would pass. he has a alterego which is amusing but what does this have to do with the class. try not to miss any classes. do not take unless you have to and i mean have to.
His class is a harder class, but isnt that what college is about? Peterson helps wherever needed, and the majority of his class time is spent lecturing examples. Ex Cr helps so much, and studying is obvious, pulling an A in his class amazed me. watch out for Nosretep...
Peterson is harder, boring class. He will help you with ANYTHING you need help with. In his class, anyone can get an A, it just depends on how much they can work for it. If you see the teacher in points where you are having trouble, he will help you straighten it out, and he lets you know this. If you cant pass his class, you shouldnt be in college
Okay so I love Psych (my major) but this class is worthless. And not to mention he doesn't know how to teach...he rambles & that's bout it. Oh and did I mention he's totally rediculous on tryin to help you out when you fall alil behind? Yeah he told me to drop his class...Hey don't have to tell me 2ce! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Hard teacher, and not very willing to try to help his students learn
He was the worst professor I have ever had! I almost transferred and changed my major because of him! If you can get around taking his class...don't take it! He is rude, not helpful and confusing as all hell...TERRIBLE at his job!!!
If you are brave enough to stay in this class I suggest a study group. When he said over 1/2 the class will fail I was nervous. I took this class my first semester in college and I had no idea how to pass this class. Working in a group will definitely help even if he says it won't. GOOD LUCK!!!
I dont know what everyone else is complaining about. I found him to be a more helpful professor than average and if you pay attention in class and actually do the readings the entire course is a sinch.
Bring a tape recorder. Then play it at night, it will help you fall asleep.
He is one of the worst professors ever. If you can stay awake for a full class period you're accomplishing something. I DO NOT RECOMMEND
This is a great class for a grad student, but not for a freshman. The ONE person who said it was easy is insane. I have nver gotten a C on anything until this class. The sad thing is, I had one of the top grades in the what.. 30% of the class that passed.
The previous reasons why they didn't like Dr. Peterson is because they were psyc 100 students. He asks alot from his students. Psyc 202 was a 2 credit course and homework took more time than 4 credit. However I learned alot from him... if you want the easy way out don't be in his pysc 100 class, if you want to learn something psyc majors, take him
god. why are they even still employed?
DONT TAKE HIM! very very hard teacher, no clarity in lecture jumps around alot. i am a psych major and until i took him i had A's and B+'s in all classes now im getting 70% on tests all because of him dont take him.
I want to cry
very hard teacher, not really clear and jumps around a ton. Don't taken him if you don't have to, he expects you to answer exactly as he would answer or he marks you off, and if he gives u a study guide make sure u use it!
He is the worst. Assignments are impossible because he demands perfection. This is an intro level class and was more difficult and time consuming than my 300 and 400 level classes. Half the class dropped and I'm pretty the other half is failing. If you can take this class with ANYONE else, do it. You will most certainly regret taking Gary Peterson.
the worst teacher ever. extremely difficult to follow, very vauge with descriptions of assignments and what he expects of you. VERY hard grader, you will fail ever test...no matter what. marks down for very little things. do not take him, seriously.
Sets a new standard for the "low bar". By far the worst prof I've ever had the pleasure....Arrogant,Boring,Outdated,Self-centered! 2 cr class that requires more time than 4 cr. 15 page paper. Exams are poorly worded and he tries to impress with vocabulary and trickery. DON'T TAKE FOR ANY STUDENT!
Like everyone else has stated... worst prof ever!!! Grades very difficulty..and expects top notch scientific grades on homework and paper... speaking of paper it's at least 20 pages long and yes he will tear you apart. ABSOLUTELY AWEFUL and even if you are a 4.0....your GPA is gauranteed to suffer... as you will...
I concurr with all my fellow students. HE IS THE WORST PROF ON THIS CAMPUS!! You will dread coming to class and question the tenure system. I should have listened to my friend Sara, the comments on this site, and my instincts and not have taken. Now I feel like strangling small animals and getting a counselor!!!!Don't take...extreme danger!!!!
HE IS THE COOLEST TEACHER EVER! AND HE IS VERY GOOD LOOKING!
He didn't kill my interest in Psych as he does for most, but this was still much harder than I ever would have expected a Psych class to be for me. Tests were extremely hard even though I studied for days. Extra credit is a lifesaver. I pulled off an A because I worked so hard, but I was amazed that I managed to. Be cautious you find Psych hard
Worst Professor EVER!! VERY hard grading scale. Expects all students to be experts in the field already. Expectations on papers VERY HIGH. Tests are extremely difficult, and the study guide is no help. Lectures are completely disorganized and random. Assignments do little to aid understanding. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
He's grouchy and boring... and he loves to quote the book as much as possible in everything, tests, quizzes, in lecture etc... I dropped after 2 weeks because he told me that I shouldn't be a PSYC major
Horribly boring. Cannot stand his teaching. He rattles on and on about quotes from the book, and he tells you that most of you will either fail or drop the class.
Why this man is allowed to teach is $1,000,000 question. He is one of those teachers who teaches just to feel like the smartest person in the room. Boring, outdated, horrible teaching style. Ruined my interest in psychology as well as my 4.0 GPA. Avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid!!!
This guy is horrible. He does not know how to teach. He quotes his own lectures and the text book word for word to use as question on the exams. His assignment are very unclear and he will mark down for anything. There is NO point breakdown or outline of class objective in his syllabus. I concur... WHY IS THIS MAN TEACHING??
The worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Terrible, Terrible, Terrible, thats really all I can Say. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. I'd rather be hit by a car then take his class again.
Terrible, thats all i have to say... terrible
I cannot stress how bad Peterson is. I never had to worry about failing a class before this one. His lectures are scattered and incomprehensible. Assignments are very unclear and his exams are impossible. I learned nothing in this class due to his teaching style. If you must take, spend a lot of time on your paper. It's the only way you'll pass.
I really don't understand why every rating is so bad. I was really intimidated to take this class and it's not bad at all. He is probably the most helpful professor ever, and is pretty clear as to what is going to be on the exam. You have to work for your grade, probably harder than a 4 credit class but he is willing to help and gives bonus points
Peterson is one of my favorite professors! You are in college and should have to work for your grade, and you will in his class. It is not that hard, show effort, meet with him, he will proof papers as many times as you want him to. Exams are predictable if you pay attention and read the book, and he gives a study guide. He is always there to help
I was afraid of this class because of all these negative ratings. However, he is not nearly as bad as what everyone is saying. If you have a good work ethic and TRULY like psychology, you will find his class very educational. I do agree that his lectures could be a little more lively, but overall the experience was not as bad as predicted!
The negative comments are ridiculous. Dr. P is the most helpful prof that I have ever taken... in person and email (he replies within half an hour). He really wants his students to learn (and do well) and is clear with expectations. He's a fair grader I def recommend him, you'll learn a lot.
HARD HARD HARD!!!!! I stayed up late studying for every test and could never pass the exam!! I am not the person who does nothing and then complains about the teacher he is HARD!!! The class is incredibly boring which makes it impossible to stay awake!!! Stay away!!! I read all the neg. comments and decided to take him anyway not a good decsion!!!!
Very difficult, first time taking a psychology class, I would avoid if psychology is not your major, he teaches alot of material very rapidly, in class quizzes worth 3-4 points every class that go over material 2-3 chapters ahead of the chapter we are currently on. Very hard exams, make sure you study weeks in advance!
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, this is the first class ever in my life I have failed.I did everything from taking notes, going to every class, reading the book, creating study guides, asking for help, studying, etc. and still failed. He is the worst teacher EVER! Tests are impossible! DO NOT TAKE!
This is probably the worst teacher i have ever had! He gives tests that seem impossible. His notes are probably the worst I have ever seen, most of them you can't read and the ones you can don't even relate to what is on the tests.
Unfortunately Peterson is the only professor who teaches 202. If you are a psych major, go to another college; you will not be able to pass this class. No one likes him for a reason. His quizzes and tests are rediculously hard and quite often do not reflect what was covered in the lecture. The text book that was used is not at all informative.
Peterson is the hardest teacher I've ever had. I work EXTREMELY hard in school, but that's not enough for his class. He'll always find something to mark you down for. I will say that he is very very available to his students, but that's not enough to save your grade in his class. Be prepared to hate Psychology.
Absolutely horrible. I'm in his class right now and I'm practically dying. I studied for about 8 hours the day prior to the exam, memorized EVERYTHING on the review sheet and still somehow managed to get a 58%. I want to drop it, but I can't bc it's required for my degree. :(
Extremely difficult class. The only way I did well on the final was to read every sentence of the chapters assigned and make flashcards of basically each sentence and then memorize them all. I had a stack close to 700 index cards. Make sure you do all the extra credit offered it will help.
Despite other critiques and warnings from others, I actually liked his class. He puts in his personal experiences or relates topics to things that you may understand better. If you need help with any concept or the homework then ask or email him and he will help you, sometimes giving you the answers even.
THIS GUY IS A TERRIBLE TEACHER. HIS NOTES AREN'T EVEN NOTES. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WRITE IT WILL NOT HELP YOU IN THIS CLASS. THE HOMEWORK IS IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE HE GRADES EXTREMELY HARD. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! TO SIMPLY PUT HOW BAD THIS CLASS WAS...IT WAS LIKE STABBING SPOONS IN YOUR EYES FOR A WHOLE SEMESTER.
Very easy course. Lots of extra credit. Little homework. Tons of ways to earn points. Easy tests, few quizzes. Reading ahead of him as he asks is not impossible. All in all, nothing to be worried about.
Terrible professor. Psych is my major, and he was the only one who taught the class, but I would have rather transferred to a different school. Gives you ambiguous answers when you ask questions, and leaves rude comments on homework and tests. You can pass this class, but don't count on getting a good grade.
No, he isn't the easiest prof. in the world, but if you work for the grade you'll get the grade. If he seems unclear ASK. If he is still unclear ASK AGAIN. All lecture and demonstrations. TAKE GOOD AND DETAILED NOTES. Read ahead. Good and interesting professor that taught me a lot. Loved the class, even though some people may disagree.
He's a really hard teacher. I like him as a person, but he's a really hard person. He tends to talk in circles. He lives for psychology. He has never shared a personal story, just facts about pscyhology. His test are really hard since there's fill in the blank and you have to try to remember whatever phrase he used in class. I really don't like him
He is a very tough professor! Don't expect his lecture and the reading to correspond. He wrote on the board, though half of the time he didn't even teach about the topics he wrote down. I would recommend not taking his class.
Boring class. You HAVE to read the text AND pay attention in class to pass the test. The only good thing about the class is he grades on a curve. Very Sarcastic. If you take this class make sure you go everyday and ask lots of questions
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR 202!!! Marie Cassar teaches 202 in the summer some times, take her if you can.
It's true- he is awful! my whole class went together to complain to the head of psych department. I'm a straight A student and I managed to fail his class. Terrible teacher!
U know, maybe outside of an academic setting there is a chance he is a nice guy but as a teacher, would not recommend him. Very dry, confusing and stirn. Took all the fun right out of psych for me. Withdrew and changed my major. Honestly this class made me depressed & I have a great GPA but he was super tough tho I tried!! Good luck psych majors!!
A lot of people say that he is bad and that he isn't clear, but honestly I think he is really clear about everything. I think people just have a hard time paying attention for long periods of time which is why they find him uninteresting. I look forward to going to his class everyday. But he is a tough grader. Very precise.
I don't see what the big deal is about him. Yeah, the class is long and can be pretty boring. But he tells you exactly what you need to know (multiple times) so as long as you show up to class, pay attention, and check VSpace religiously, you should be fine. He's not as bad as a lot of the previous raters have made him out to be.
awful prof! AVOID at ALL costs. he's a really nice guy if you go to his office and talk to him, but he's just not a good teacher. He's super monotonous and i had a hard time following his notes b/c they're ALL CAPS. he does random pop-quizzes and writes mean comments on your papers. take this class in the summer, don't take peterson.
He will teach you a lot. He is an interesting guy, but weird with the "Nosretep". He is one of the hardest grading professors. You will be able to pass if you study, but very likely you won't get higher than a C grade.
This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken at SVSU. It isn't necessarily the material its the way he presents it and being monotone is extremely hard to understand. I studied my butt off to get a good grade in this class and still got a bad grade. I will be retaking this class with a different professor in the summer to bring up my grade!
He is a tough professor, but if you pay attention in class you will pass without a problem. I suggest typing your notes and making a study guide, then sending it to him. He will send it back to you fleshing out any concepts you may not have understood and correcting things you did not understand. He does this really fast too! He's will work if u do
He's very hard core! but professional! He thrives on you going to office hours, turning things in early often=bonus points. If you do not want to work HARD, are over loaded, or just want a class to fill a spot...this class is NOT for you. He gives you all the materials that you need to pass the class, utilize, study, memorize his handouts and book.
Honestly, I would take Professor Peterson if you have the chance. You'll work super hard and probably get a C, but you will learn more than you have in any other psych class. In the end I'd rather pay for a lower grade and more knowledge than the other way around.
Just began his class; already bored me to tears. I can already tell its going to be a unnecessarily hard semester. fml. 3 people fell asleep already AND he was hard to follow. Ieis for my major so I have no choice but to take it, but avoid at all costs
He is a nice guy, I have to hand it to him. But, the class itself is not nice. Heads up, even if you're in love with Psyc 100, if you're not dedicated 110% to becoming a Psyc major, don't take this class. I can not stress that enough. This class if meant for psych majors. Not people thinking about it. You'll waste your energy and money. Be careful.
He is quite monotone, and can ramble on and far too deep into a topic during lecture. Lecture is about 3 hours, so take this class when you are most alert, or invest in a voice recorder. I recommend visiting his office hours. He can be arrogant in lecture, but he'd kind in his office. DONT TAKE THIS if you're only CONSIDERING being a Psyc major.
He is a very nice professor. He will be very helpful make a lot of use of office hours and email. This is the way to pass his class. Warning: I cannot stress enough if you take this class be sure you really want to be a psych major and take as many easy classes in conjunction with this class or your GPA will suffer!!!!
Many feel Peterson is a terrible teacher. This is entirely incorrect!!! The whole point of this class is to determine whether or not you will make it as a psych major. He provides all the materials you will need as well as available ANYTIME you ever need him. If you are devoted to psych as well as to being a good student, you will ace just as I.
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. He is the hardest grader ever. I worked my butt off for our exams and he marks every point off that he can possibly find in the short answer questions and also marks you down on your papers for every little thing. His lectures are extremely hard to follow and are very unorganized. Wouldn't take again.
He does not use power points. He gives you online handouts that you must read yourself, and print yourself. He doesnt give helpful feedback. Not worth taking if you value your self esteem. Like if you think you did great on something, you probably failed.
He's TERRIBLE don't take him unless you're completely committed to being a psych major. Many students have failed or dropped his class each year. Study or drop this class is very hard because many students have failed within the first week. AVOID if you can.
Everyone takes him for 202 and freaks out because it's hard. The point is to make sure you are committed to psych. Anything after that he's a gem! More than willing to help and gets you ready from grad school! Take him for social psych and the lab!
He assigns chapters in the book to read, normally four chapters an exam, but also has around ten online handouts you must know for the test, which the handouts normally range from one page to sixteen pages in length. It's A LOT of information, he grades hard, and a lot of memorizing.
Dr. Peterson is a huge reason I had a successful first semester at SVSU. He got me into the habit of finishing my papers early, and handing them in for feedback, which I now do for ALL of my classes. Yeah, the lectures are a little dry. Yeah, the tests are hard. But 202 is full of valuable information for psych students. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!
Dr Peterson is such a great professor. People don't like him because he's a hard grader and he may come across as intimidating but he cares about this students and his more than happy to help you with any assignments you need. Go to his office and you'll do just fine! He really pushes you to do your best and he loves students who show improvement!
I really liked Dr. Peterson. At first I thought his teaching method was ridiculously hard but its very apparent that he wants his students to learn. If you ask for help he is more than willing and though he "nit picks" your papers he is giving you actual feedback on what you need to improve! I'd take him again, I learned a lot in his course.
His grading is ridiculous. If you don't use exact wording on tests you won't do well. Content seems simple but is pushed so much. He is open to talk outside of class and give feedback on papers before they're due. Lectures were long and boring.
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He is an extremely tough grader and words his tests in a strange way. Almost half of my class dropped or failed. His feedback on papers can be confusing, so I would suggest seeing him during office hours. Be prepared to study hard.
worst teacher of my life. does not explain information well and is very boring and dry. he acts like the class is easy. i tried my harest and failed the class. i retook it with Cassar and with barley any effort i got an A. if you need to take this class, take her. out of the 20 students in my class with gary, least half the kids dropout and failed
Peterson is a very tough teacher, hes the reason I changed my major, however even though he is a tough teacher he will try to help you out as much as possible with Test corrections and different things to try and help you boost your grade up . Hes not that bad I just wouldnt take him again, too hard. Also I was supposed get a F received an D
Basically if you study you'll be okay. He explains things clearly in class, and the tests usually reflect what he goes over in lecture, with some additional content from the readings he posts online and from the textbook. Overall it was pretty hard, but that's probably because I didn't study for one of the exams and had to cram for it.
