Super chill guy & gives students a lot of opportunities when it comes to cool things like taking field trips to cool labs, talking about clubs, and internships/ co-ops. The class was easy overall, just a lot of extra work outside of learning coding bc of the cultural intelligence piece. The group project could've been organized a tad better though.

Some don't listen and then they write on here he is disorganized. No he is not, he is giving you exactly what he said he would do. I have been at Auburn for 2 years. This is the second class I've taken with prof pike & I will take other classes with him. He answers all questions, he meets you in his office even outside his posted hours to help. He was teaching Python, I needed help with C++ and he made it so simple. The lecture is set by the school. Many bonus chances and fun.

Here it is in a nutshell. I was a Sophomore, so I have had many classes. If you go to his class and you interact, he will go out of his way to help you. If you ask questions, he will answer. He does care. There is a project (how you do on the project is on the TA, some are good some aren't, not Dr. Pike's fault) He gives pointers, they explain.

Dr. Pike is the most inspirational professor ever. He gives you more knowledge in a short time than others do. He is not a slide reader, he has slides, but doesn't look at them. He truly cares and makes it very interesting. Not you average professor at all. I learned so many things and most importantly, how to apply it to real life work.

I'm taking Pike now and I will tell you that he is the best teacher I have had. I am a Junior and having to go back and get this required course out of the way. He is liberal with bonus opportunities and you will learn a lot more than just how to code. He teaches management, organization, soft skills, and everything you need to get a career going.

I took him three terms ago. At the time, I thought he was very hard. Now I realize he was preparing us for what was to come. He actually is easy considering what is to come. I took this class being told it would be super easy. It was not super easy as they started a new project type where you have to build a robotic car. He did tell us up front what to expect so I cannot say I have a problem with him, but with how I felt overwhelmed. In the end, he gave enough bonus opportunities that I ended up with an A. You MUST go to class because what he tells you is what you will be graded on. Do not think that you will get everything from online. You are required to attend. If you miss class you do not qualify for bonus. You will need bonus at the end, because you may end up with team like mine. Three people never showed to help with team projects which hurt.

There will be little rules for the final. This is problem for lot of ppl because we didn't know which way to go. We were given kit & told prog it to follow line & make shell for it. This not taught in class, you have to figure out on your own. At the end, we did learn that it was about creativity. Everyone that went to class got good grade.

Great professor and holds everyone equally accountable. If you need help, ask, he will help you more than any other.

Long and short, the only people who get mad at him are the ones that don't try. He doesn't grade the writings, the TA does. He doesn't grade the labs, the Zybooks does. He doesn't give anyone a grade, they get the grade the make. He does offer bonus and you better take advantage of it. It can change your grade a few points. Enough to bump a letter.

I took both courses. ENGR is for freshman and they don't know what is coming. I thought it was a lot to do, but hey, he gave many chances to improve things. He will review a grade if you go to his office hours. His COMP class is the easiest and most interesting class I have had. Great teacher, really cares. Learned a lot.

I really enjoyed Prof Pike's class. He makes it relate to the real world and shows you how to succeed in the future. He doesn't use a textbook, but there is online zybooks (graded online not by him). Attendance is not mandatory, but going to class gets you lots of bonus opportunities. He bends over backwards to help everyone. Take him if you can.

I really appreciate that Professor Pike cares. I had an F at midterm and he gave me every opportunity he could to bring my grade up and I passed the class. I didn't do the reading responses and that hurt my grade a lot. Not his fault, totally mine. I recommend him over many and just say go talk to him if you are in a bind.

Gary Pike was one of my favorite teachers this year. He makes sure to tell you upfront what he expects of you. Just put in work and you should be fine. The only way you'll fail is if you do nothing. Very accessible outside of class via zoom or office hours. DO THE CULTURE READINGS! He cares about his students just communicate with him.

I love this man, he is far better at making things easy to understand than any other teacher I had. If you ask, he bends over backwards to help you. He spent three hours with me, explaining everything about Python and now I can do it without problems. The only people that don't like him, are the ones that never come to class.

Prof. Pike is great! Cares about us and wants us to do well. Things were overwhelming in the 1st half of the course but it got a little easier after midterms. I finished with a high B but he raised me to an A since he remembered me in class and participating. Make sure you go to class and you'll be fine! The culture assignments are a pain though.

Main portion of class is group project/presentation so be ready for that. The programming stuff is a little slow but what do you expect; the culture stuff def sucks but its an easy A for sure. Pike is pretty reasonable and if you show effort he'll make sure you get an A. Overall pretty easy but lots of mandatory attendance. Python a good skill tho!

For an introductory class this is a bit heavy on the workload but you are learning something useful and Pike is pretty chill overall. The culture assignments and homework are pretty dull but everything else about the course is decent. As long as you apply yourself you'll do fine. Do note that most of the work is a big group project in python!

I got an A because of bonus. How you get it, at beginning of lecture you get a point at end you get a 10 pt bonus quiz, bonus for doing maker space certifications (scheduling is hard), bonus for attending engr events like ACM, Hackathon, and more. Take all your pts and multiply it times your attendance, that is the max you can get. It helps a lot.

Get ready for a different teacher. He is an Engineer with lots of degrees and teaches like that. I just started listening to the lectures (if you can call them that, he got the whole class involved). Class was easy because he pulled questions straight off the kahoots he would gie us before our tests. Only problem I had with him is he was never on topics, he would always go on LONG tangents then cram the information in right before the end of class, sometimes keeping us over class. Great guy who cares about his though.

He cares very much about his students and will go above and beyond to help them within Auburn standards if you show that you care about the class and put in the effort. Attendance mandatory but he tries to make his lectures as engaging as he can. Super funny guy, very knowledgable, wants to know his students and help them succeed.

Professor Pike was a great teacher, very lenient, and wanted his students to succeed. There was a light workload and only a few tests with the final group project.

Mr. Pike was a great teacher. He may come off as a little strict at first, but if you take the time to talk to him, he will give you all the credit you need to end the course with the grade you want. He grades very fair and leaves a lot of what we do up to the class. He will offer you advice on anything you need inside and outside of the classroom.

Professor Pike truly cares about his students and the class. He tries to make each lecture interesting and engaging, as he wants us to take useful information with us when we leave the class. He tries to scare you off at the beginning, but don't run unless you want a liberal pc teacher. If that is what you want, do run. He really chills out after the first couple of weeks and you start to see just how much he cares and will bend over backwards to help you.

You are going to worry about everything. If he doesn't have all the material covered, he pushes off the test until he does. He also bonuses the tests and literally tells you everything on the test the class before it. I'd rather have someone that doesn't follow a schedule and makes the tests and material very easy than schedule and tough grading

I took public speaking and Dr. Pike teaches you more about proper speaking and presenting techniques than my public speaking teacher did.

I just left a review for 3140. I know that the course can sometimes seem confusing, and granted he is somewhat disorganized, but again he is so caring it outweighs the negatives 10x fold. It's hard to describe just how caring Dr. Pike is. He will try and scare you at first, and has some outlandish, wild stories (some of which aren't true, because he likes to see if you are paying attention to call him out). But he is the most caring, sweet guy and you really start to see that at the end of the semester. Will also banter with you!

Oh my God! Nobody cares more about your success than this man. He came to school on his off day to help us and he lives over an hour away from the school. Don't believe the unorganized stuff. He did not write the syllabus or make the slides. He is using what he was given. I will take him again.

Mr. Pike truly does care about all of his students. He puts in efforts to make his courses relevant to what is happening in the aviation world. He gives you everything you need to know for the test/quiz the day before, it's your own fault if you don't get an A. The end of year project is a lot, but prepares you well for other projects you'll have.

When you hear bad news about planes or crashes you think oh no. He spent time analyzing and explaining. I learned to look at things critically now and research the details.

Looking back at the teachers I have had over the years, he is the absolute best. Even after I left his class he would help me. My friends have also had the same experience. He is not confusing and makes things make sense. This is the man that reminds you of great teachers in movies.

Pike was my best teacher and I read the reviews 1st. Laughed at the one. He gave so much bonus, if at the end you were short it wasn't cause he did something, just think what your grade was without all the bonus. You migh have had a C. I had an 84 without all the bonus work that he didn't have to give. Take Pike if you can, he tries to hlep you.
