Very good, very informative, focuses more on the Eastern thought, but I really liked him.

Easiest and most interesting class ever taken. Enjoyed every day.
He was amazing! i loved his class! i deffinitely recomend him for religion!
awesome class. one of the best teachers here. really opened my mind without threatening my beliefs. highly reccommend
HE IS THE BEST!!!
Flippin hilarious!!! Recomended highly! Mostly just discussions but I was rolling on the ground laughing most of the time.
I didn't enjoy brother purse. He was very unclear about his quizes and his examples were confusing. He's ok, but I wouldn't recommend him.
Great teacher! Gives you all the questions and answers for tests at the beginning of semester. Extremely interesting and funny to boot. Highly recommend him.
He's awesome. Very funny and smart.
He cares alot about the students, but most classes were spent looking at boring phrases from various sacred texts, there were no visual aids or discussion on modern world-wide religions.
Best class/teacher ever! He made the sometimes confusing texts easy to understand and gives a study guide that has all of the test questions on it. If you take a little time to be prepared you are sure to get an A. I highly reccommend this class with Purse!
He is a good teacher but he tends to focus too much on quotes from sacred scriptures and not on inforamtion about the religion. Then, since he talks so much about the scared texts he only has time to give us definitions. I just wish he would teach us more about the religion.
Incredible class! I found it very helpful to read excerpts of the sacred texts from other religions-just as reading the Book of Mormon would help someone not of our faith to understand our own religion. Brother Purse did a fantastic job of highlighting the plain and precious truths found within other religions. I highly recommend this class.
Awesome teacher all-around. Not too much homework in my class, just scripture reading! Cares so much about the students and prepares for lessons. Great Professor if you actually want to get something out of the class.
I'd say he was tied for my favorite teacher. I loved the class so much that I recommend it to everyone I meet. The section on Meditation and Hinduism is by far the best. In other words, "Brother Purse... YOU ROCK!"
I liked this class overall. Bro Purse is a good teacher, but his tests seemed pointless they are memorization based. He also seemed to put himself in the limelight Like I am such a wonderful person. And we always talked about things that members do wrong in the church so i would distract me from the teaching in D&C. But overall a good class

Bro Purse is AWESOME!!! He is one of the only Religion teachers that doesn't make the class as hard as organic chemistry. He comes prepared, and you can tell he has a great passion for what he is teaching. He LOVES his students and wants everyone to succeed. You have to TRY to not get an A. He opened my eyes to worldwide truths. BEST TEACHER EVER!
Bro Purse is the man!! He knows his stuff. The class was a ton of fun and I got a lot out of it. He brought the scriptures to life. I actualy really enjoyed going to class. If I could do it all over, I would take all my religion classes from bro P. BRO PURSE ROCKS!!!!
Basically Brother Purse is the greatest religion teacher in the world. He helps you to open your mind and actually see and accept others. Makes it possible to stop living in a Jell-O belt mentality.
I really liked this teacher, the class was pretty easy, but at the same time i learned a lot, i would highly recommend this teacher to anyone hes a nice guy, and you get an easy A.
Great teacher! Lots of quotes from general authorities to emphasize certain points in the scriptures, helps you learn how to teach investigators from the Book of Mormon. Sometimes gets off track and be prepared to hear lots of stories about things going on in his ward, as he's the Bishop.
Loved this class! This was the class where I could just relax and learn about the scriptures. He cracks jokes all the time. He really knows what he's talking about. You can feel the spirit so strong in that class and just know what he's saying is true. Awesome teacher. Totally recommend!
Great class. Only for the openminded and curious. Helps strengthen testimony and gratitude for the Gospel. Learn about interesting facts about other religions. Purse is entertaining and inspiring!I highly recommend this class!
He's amazing, has a great sense of humor. One of the best religion teachers. Has very unique and insightful lessons, and is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. Every day I'm reluctant to leave, there's still so much more to learn. If I could describe this class in 2 words it would be "Depth" and "Enlightenment."
Brother Purse is an awesome teacher!! I loved his world religions class. He's really funny and has a lot of great insights that makes one really evaluate their lives. I would definitly recommend this class and this professor.
Bro. Purse is an amazing religion teacher. He has so many wonderful power points and quotes from prophets and other general authorities. He's awesome! I enjoyed the class everyday. Not hard at all to get an good grade. He makes it so easy. COMPLETELY ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND!! Awesome teacher.
Great guy with great knowledge. Class is interesting and not bad, however I feel like I could get more out of other teachers. He tries too hard to be funny. Got a comment for everything and even makes fun of some kids in the class. I would take him again if i needed to. Overall, Recommended.
I loved Bro. Purse!! He was an amazing teacher and I enjoyed each day of class. His class is very easy, just make sure you pay attention. He is SO funny, but you need to understand his humor to enjoy it. My love for Mormon and the Book of Mormon increased so much!!! TAKE THIS CLASS FROM BRO PURSE!!!
Don't take the online D&C course unless you are off-track and don't have other classes to worry about. It takes up a LOT of time!
BROTHER PURSE IS THE BEST RELIGION TEACHER AT BYU-I. I have taken every class he has taught and am very sad I can't take any more! He has a passion for the gospel and the scriptures and a solid, unwaivering testimony. He is hilarious and is very accomodating for the students. Bro Purse Rocks!
only reading for homework, no tests, no papers, only in class quizzes. Class was really interesting, really knows what he's talking about
i LOVED his class. He had such a passion for other religions, it was amazing! He basically was awesome lol. i would recommend him to ANYONE FOR ANY CLASS. you can tell that he enjoys his job and loves the people that he works with. i cant wait for next semester when i take 122 from him. so glad i took this class before my mission. was awesome!!!
brother purse is funny, in a very quirky odd way. he really wants to help you and share what he knows. pretty easy, gives lots of opportunities for extra credit, but you don't even really need it. learned a lot
so bro. purse is a great guy and he cares about his students. He is really insightful and fairly easy with homework, but I felt he got side tracked too often in class. I loved his world religion class, but the in BOM 221 class I thought I would learn a little more than I did. Wish he would talk more about the subject than his opinions.
Hes an okay teacher. Good guy i think, but never sticks to what we should be learning. His class was a 1hr 45 mins and he only spent maybe 30 mins of that actually talking about D&C. He would get the class going about controversial subjects that did not relate to what we were reading. every class counts as 100 points... kind of ridiculous
Great professor. Extremely insightful. The class tends to be more of a discussion than a lecture. The homework is reading the whole BOM and the student manual. No busy work. His experiences and references brought a new excitement for the BOM. Take brother Purse.
I would recommend any class that he is teaching. He requires a lot of reading, but not a lot of other things. Just keep up with the reading and you'll probably get an A+.
Purse is a convert and has a lot of great perspectives. He allows you to be in control of the learning environment by listening to your input on tests and attendance. Very entertaining and great sense of humor.
Bro Purse is great! I took him for D&C and BoM and I learned a lot in both classes. Obviously you have to read a lot of the scriptures, but they're classes all about D&C and BoM, so its kind of normal that you would have to read. I would recommend his classes though. He is hilarious! And he tells you EXACTLY what you have to know for the tests.
I had Brother Purse in the Fall for REL 324 and LOVED it!! The class discussions rocked; he made the Doctrine and Covenants come alive. He has great humor and spiritual insights and he genuinely cares about his students.Come to class, do the reading, and you will leave enlightened and with an A. :) I'll for sure be taking him again!
Best religion teacher I've ever had. I would take him for all my religion credits if I wasn't finished with all my religion credits.
Bro Purse is an awesome teacher - I loved his class! I learned a lot from the the D&C & loved that he's been to a lot of the church history sites. He has a lot of insight and I love his teaching style! It's also not hard to do well in his class :)
Brother Purse is probably my favorite teacher of ALL time! He is funny, easy to understand, more than willing to help if you don't understand something and has a love for teaching that goes beyond any other teacher I've seen. He makes class TONS of fun every day! Seriously, if you need ANY extra credits, take a class from Bro Purse!
I just got done with World Religions from Brother Purse and it was AMAZING! My perspective and spiritually grew more in this class than in any other. Easy A if you come to class and do the readings (which have great variety btw). This is a must take class- if not this one than any other of his classes. Fun, spiritual, and pretty much just awesome!
OH MY MACKREL!!! He is soooo helarious! I had him for two whole hours on tuesdays and thursdays but class never got tiring or boring. Some of my former religion class have just been hard for me to stay awake. However, his class was my favorite. Triple thumbs up. HES GREAT! So easy too. I hate writing papers and there aren't any pluss no tests!
Had him for world religions.Love the class. Loved the class. Loved it. Best class that I took at BYUI. Thank god for Brother Purse.
Brother Purse is hands down the best teacher at BYUI! If you cannot get an A+ in his class, or for some reason you dont like him, you can know that it is 100% YOUR own fault. He does everything he possibly can to ensure the success of his students. He is extremely generous with his help!He passionate about his subject, he is VERY knowledgeable!
Cool teacher. A lot of good insight. Great Teacher for D&C.
Easy professor to get help and learn.
World Religions was way easy. It is true that it is almost impossible to not get an A. However I hated going t class! It was boring and I felt like he added lots of his own doctrine and readings were sooo long sometimes.
Purse is a breath of fresh air in this sometimes rigid, Pharisaical environment! I found his approach to the FDCNC250 class extremely insightful, and enjoyable. There seems to b some negativity on campus about this class, but kudos to Pres.Clark for making us take it!You get out what you put in with Bro.P, & his unique teaching style is appreciated
Brother Purse is awesome and clearly passionate about what he teaches. The thing about him is that he tries to teach World Religions the way that a Buddhist or Muslim or Jew would want it to be taught, less like an outsider looking in. This class was a life-changing, awesome experience for me! Brother Purse is hysterical too :) A must take!!
Brother Purse is simply amazing. He is a humble, down-to-earth guy who really cares for the youth. He is a gifted teacher who loves what he does and does it with passion, humor and a sincere love for the gospel. Any student who feels otherwise probably wasn't preparing for class or forgot to take the final, but who's fault is that?
So awesome! I wish he was my father-in-law, or Bishop or something.
Just a warning on the 2ed to last case, he will show nude paintings, so be warned! Bro. Purse always starts class with a meditation bell, which I find weird, but that's me. Fairly easy class, just do the readings and once in a while the trinity arguments and you should get a good grade. Make sure you come on time and bring binder,& iclicker.
He is a really wonderful teacher who cares about his subject and his students. He's a convert and is just on fire. He's opinionated, and you'll hear them but it really gives you an outside perspective. This class changed my life and helped me to see how much God loves ALL of his children. It's taught me to be patient and kind, and I recommend it!!
Great teacher. Really challenges your views so that you have to decide to think for yourself and not just rely on what your parents have always told you was right or wrong. Would take any of his classes.
He was the best teacher to take World Religions from. He has put so much effort into researching others religions. He teaches their religion how they would want it to be taught the best way he can. We even had former Hindus in our class and they agreed that he was respectful of their religion. Everything was factual and no ridicule was allowed.
Brother Purse was so great. I really enjoyed his class! He helps you to see different perspectives, he isn't afraid to speak his mind, he's fair grading. I recommend him! You'll love his class.
Really good instructor. Has a fun sense of humor. He doesn't assign too much homework and there's a study guide for both tests. Go to class, listen, and learn. That's all you need to do. Super interesting stuff, very fun guy.
Brother Purse teaches foundations classes at the perfect level of interest and involvement, his personal interest and focus on the subject matter is contagious and apparent. Very simple class requirements, very meaningful knowledge to be gained.
Brother Purse has no patience with missing his class. You could be stricken with the plague or giving birth and he won't care. He also teaches the book of Mormon according to how he has interpreted it and wants you to forget all you know to learn it his way. He's nice and there's little work, but the tests are abstract and the class is frustrating
Brother Purse is amazing! Every class is so insightful and the discussions are great. He is extrememly fair (and even generous) in his grading and attendance policies, but tests go better when you attend class. I would recommend Brother Purse to anyone! He knows his stuff.
He is a nice guy but I honestly hated going to this class, and attendance is mandatory. He is so boring, he pretty much reads everything and doesn't sound prepared. His tests focus on dates and facts and nothing spiritual. Nobody wants a HARD religion class, I wouldn't recommend taking it from him.
2 Tests only so if you're not good with tests this probably isn't the best class. Brother Purse is very fair though. he does want you to do well in this class. He really loves this class and teaching. If you're looking for an easy religion class, I'd suggest something else.
Brother Purse is a nice man, and has good intentions. His class was the worst because it was confusing and early in the morning. If you miss his class, he will fail you. I learned that the hard way. His tests make no sense. Don't get me wrong, he is a nice person, but a bad teacher.
I have had great experiences with every teacher on this campus except for Brother Purse. This comment section doesn't even give me enough room to tell you all the problems I have had with him. The most frustrating is that we must take a quiz that's due every day after class that he posts at 11PM. He tells us he'll post it at 5PM but never does.
Brother Purse is a good man, but he isn't a decent teacher. I have never had a more negative experience with any teacher on campus than I did with brother Purse. He grades solely on two ridiculously hard tests, attendance, and reading. He is not helpful nor do his lessons have correlation with the tests given. I do not recommend this teacher.
I've taken 2 classes from him now. BOM part 1 was an awesome experience- super spiritual, always the high point of my day. So I took him again. He's an easy teacher (NO TESTS just EASY quizzes on class time) but with BOM part 2 he put all sorts of opinions into the class. He's very smart and spiritual, but used class as a way to lecture his opinion
Okay, This professor will be your favorite religion teacher! Honest, his lectures are very deep. He is a convert so he has really good input and a different outlook on the Mormon religion. He always has the best topics! Also, he is absolutely hilarious. He does do tests. Just make sure you do the readings and show up on the days he does the review
I felt like he dwelt on his life experiences too much. It was almost like his testimony was better than ours because he was a convert. My personality did not mix well with his, but it was an easy class. The day before the test you have a study guide that the whole class goes over and finds the answers. Then the test is the exact same thing.
Bro. Purse is awesome he loves his students and loves what he does. He is really good at helping students out when they don't understand. He continued to give my class extra credit points just because he liked us so much. Loved this class, great guy too. Meditation at the beginning of class is also a plus ;)
He's really funny and besides reading, the only other assignments are two easy tests.
Bro Purse is absolutely fantastic! Truly, if you show up to class and simply do the reading, you are pretty much guaranteed an A. His lectures are incredibly insightful and he really does care about his students. He's very straightforward with what he will test on, so the tests are really not difficult. Definitely recommend him!!!
Bro. Purse is so, so funny. I have never laughed harder in a religion class. But he really gets spiritual, I loved the fact that he was a convert to the Church. He told really cool stories, and showed genuine sincerity in his teaching. I would recommend him to anyone.
Brother purse is hilarious! He is such a great teacher and the class is really easy. (The only A I got that semester) he gives bonus if you do all the readings and show up to class everyday. The only tests he gives he goes over every question in class. Would definitely take his class again
If you don't want to learn about the gospel you won't like it. If you actually want to be spiritually uplifted you will love this class. You do need attend class, but i just suspected i would need to go to class in college anyway. The people who complain about that shouldn't be getting a degree.
Brother Purse is the best teacher ever! I would take him for ever religion class I could. The way he relates the Book of Mormon to everyday life is amazing and you will get new insights. 2 tests that it. Both curved with extra credit. Can't go wrong with taking his class and you will laugh so hard some days!
By far my favorite professor. There's not much homework but the main reason he is easy is because he's such a great teacher. I couldn't help but pay attention because I didn't want to miss the next joke! I actually looked forward to class. I learned other religions (rare at BYUI) and how they have strengthened his testimony. Incredible balance.
This guy should be the next LDS general authority. Word!
Brother Purse is a Jedi Master when it comes to teaching Eastern Philosophy and being the best! I loved this class and loved having him as a teacher! (He loves Star Wars too so that's just an added bonus in my opinion)
I LOVED BROTHER PURSE. He is so funny. He really likes talking about Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. His lectures are absolutely amazing. At the end of the semester you get a ton of extra credit if you haven't missed a day of class. There is only one test which is the final and you don't even have to take it if you're ok with getting a B.
TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM. Seriously. If you can, make it happen. I always really look forward to his class. He's funny, caring, smart, and he always invites the Spirit. I plan on taking another class from him because I had such a good experience in World Religions.
If you want a fairly easy class, this guy is for you. There is only one test (a final, not mandatory unless you want an A), and a bit of reading before class. Get ready for random 20 minute tangents on politics and Star Wars
I LOVED Brother Purse. He was super funny and his class was so easy. Participate and attend class and you can't do poorly. I wish I could take him for all by religion classes. His lectures were sometimes dry but I enjoyed his class a lot.
Brother Purse is the kind of teacher that clearly cares for both his students and the subject matter. The Great Books class was so worth the time and energy that was put into it. If you have the opportunity to take a class from Purse, DO IT! But be prepared to do the work. He's punny and he loves Star Wars, what more could you want?
Brother Purse is an amazing teacher. He knows so much and conveys it so well. He really opened my eyes to other beliefs and what I could learn from them. A+ teacher and A+ class. He does have a quiz every day and attendance is part of your grade.
Brother Purse is an amazing instructor. He wants his students to succeed spiritually and academically. His lectures are interesting, funny and they go by fast. His class is NOT filled with busy work - like some religion courses. The grading is straightforward - read the assignments, show up for class prepared to discuss and you will receive an A.
I took religion from him and loved it! I learned more in this class than any other! If you do the reading and come prepared you will learn a lot. His class is also supper easy! His class is more about you learning than your grade.
He's a great person: super funny and entertaining... he is passionate about the topics we discuss. However, he doesn't particularly explain the material you will be tested on. If you do the few things he asks you to do, you'll be golden.
Brother Purse is a real softy, he knows this is a religion class and cares more about you learning than the grade. If you come to class everyday and do the homework (really easy) then you'll get an A. Really funny and his class doesn't really feel like a class but a place to relax.
Brother Purse is amazing. I took FDREL225 from him last semester and he was so great both times. TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM!!
He is a teacher that realizes that this is a religion class and that the true point of the class is to help our testimonies grow and learn and not a grade. If you go to class and do the homework easy A!!
If you are taking the Great Books course, expect to do some reading. The pace of the reading isn't difficult however. Sometimes I felt like his lectures/rants about crazy students were preaching to the choir, but he does a good job guiding through the books you read.
He is a really nice guy and a lot of people really like him but he seems to go on rants about being "anchored to the text" for the first 20 minutes of each class. He has quizzes after each class that aren't really hard there are just dumb questions sometimes because the students write questions sometimes and dont know what they are doing.
He's a good teacher if you want a bunch of spoilers for the books you are reading. Also if you like to listen to someone rant and show random videos about places he's been. I don't know like he's an easy teacher but attendance was mandatory for the grade when in reality going to class was pointless.
Gary Purse is an interesting guy, some would say prideful, but I think he is awesome. His World religions class was not taught by him the whole time, which disappointed me, but the part that he did teach was phenomenal. I learned so much about meditation, its benefits, and its practical applications, and I loved meditating in class.
Bro. Purse is a wonderful professor!! He is firm but very kind, honest, and down to earth. He's pretty funny. I would definitely take him again!! The books you read in this class are amazing and the discussions are interesting. The reading is super manageable and all you have to do are quizzes on the reading. Take. this. class!
Bro. Purse's class was entertaining and ok. The homework assignments were a little tedious and lacked some variation in quotes. The quizzes were easy, but not always easy to remember to take. He had his select few that he picked on for feedback in class, but is willing to take comments from everyone.
Brother Purse is the man. Very funny and willing to work with you. Is very clear with his expectations and requires. Taught my class for half a semester and he was an easy A. The whole grade was based on very easy quizzes we would take twice a week. Very inspirational with a lot of cool thoughts. I would definitely take a class from him again.
Brother Purse was phenomenal. Great choice of books and great discussions in class. He is very clear with what is expected. If you are willing to read and want to learn you will have a great experience. I absolutely loved this course.
Brother Purse is AMAZING!!! I love reading but I wasn't sure how this class would be, but it was great!! I learned a lot about literature and how to appreciate "Great books". I never would have read any of the books that we read in the class but I ended up really loving them! Brother Purse is very passionate!!
I *loved* being in Brother Purse's class! It was definitely my favorite class of the semester! He's hilarious, and he's one of the happiest people I know. Homework is easy (just a lot of reading sometimes) and as long as you do the reading and the quizzes you'll pass the class. Going to his class was more therapeutic than anything. I Recommend him!
Brother Purse is great at teaching you how to learn from books. The reading is pretty manageable. If you do the reading and show up to class, then you'll get an A. If you don't, you'll not do very well. Just show that you care about learning and he will love you. He's very insightful and witty. I'm taking him again next semester.
Bro Purse was amazing. I will never look at literature the same. I can honestly say that I am a better person because of this class. Thanks to Bro Purse guidance through characters and lessons learned in these books. TAKE HIM!
Best teacher I've ever had! He cares so much about the subject matter and his students, and I couldn't wait to go to class every day! He is very available to any student who needs him and is very clear in his grading and assignments, which I actually enjoyed completing! I would take from him every semester if I could!!
Brother Purse is quite a character. He spends most of the class giving lectures, usually hilarious ones. He cares about his students and gives them the best spiritual advice he can. Although I didn't agree with everything he taught, he was still well respected and overall a great teacher. The entire course is graded from bi-weekly quizzes.
Bro. Purse is something else. He's a great guy and a good teacher but is easily distracted. He would repeat a lot of the same information almost daily. He answered questions which is great in a religion class but some days we wouldn't cover material we were supposed to because of it. But if you want to learn meditation this is the class for you.
Okay so Brother Purse has been one of my favorite teachers. He is kind of crazy but I still learned alot in his class. If you want to have fun in a religion class, this is the class for you
Brother Purse is a really good guy, he's got the class rolling with laughter each period. He takes time to get to know everyone which was really great. I would definitely take him again, he brings great insight to a topic saturated with repetition.
I'll keep it simple and sweet. Get ready to read a lot, and be prepared to answer questions about the reading in front of the entire class. But don't worry, he's not out to scare you or humiliate you. He wants us to succeed and have a true love for books. Also prepared to laugh and smile, going to his class, especially late in the day is exciting.
Brother Purse is the best. He is really good at making the gospel relevant in your life. His thoughts on the Church are 10/10. (Don't get him on politics though.) I absolutely loved him and I think every student should take him at least once.
Easy class, just show up, do the readings and take the quizzes and you'll be fine. Sometime he would let the class get off topic really easy and that never was good. Times when he was on his game were great though. I really liked how he had us meditate every day. Not sure I would take again, but I sure had a fun time with him as a teacher.
Bro. Purse! Brilliant man. If you don't like teachers that get off topic, don't take from him. If you like no tests, no papers, no final, and learning incredible life lessons, 1000% recommend him. Homework is so easy its almost cheating. As long as you read and show up to class, you'll get an A+ easily. He knows religions like the back of hand!
One of my favorite teachers. Excellent knowledge on religions in the world. Do your work and show up on time and you will pass. Teaches many valuable life lessons. He can get off topic, but he is interesting to listen to. You CANNOT use your electronics during class or you risk having a letter grade drop. Has passion with what he teaches. Love him.
What can say about brother purse other than he is energetic on how he teaches. He loves what he teaches and loves to help you learn the gospel. There is a definite "Joy" he has for the material. Now he needs to finish his Jedi training and hope Mace Windu doesn't deny him from the council.
Lots of chit chat in this class. No electronics allowed. Easy A.
In a word, inflexible. Dictated hard copies of the book and handwritten assignments. Used mandatory attendance to subject us to his political rantings. When students asked if we could instead discuss course material, they were told they could choose what was discussed when they were professors with their own classrooms.
Easiest religion professor ever.... he is a talker and really kid of goes on all class, but I thought he was funny and really didn't mind since the class was so easy. The only assignments are a quiz after each class and they are easy!
Super boring class. The teacher makes jokes that aren't funny and goes off on random tangents. Work is easy and I do enjoy his meditation sessions.
Purse was not a BAD teacher by any means, just very distractable and has a hard time staying on topic. He spent a lot of time criticizing members of the church, specifically mentioning that we focus too much on culture and not on the word, but then HE didn't focus on the word. It felt like we were beating a dead horse every class. Easy class though
From this class, I wanted to understand the basics of each religion (where it came from, key doctrines) but that's not how this class was run. Bro Purse is super funny, very passionate. But because of that, he dives in super deep & most of us can't keep up. Easy A, but you don't get much out of it cause its all very deep and not very well explained
Brother Purse is another gem from BYU-Idaho. He can easily see through all the cultural bullcrap of the campus and really focuses on what's most important. He's incredibly funny, promotes a relaxed class environment and has great perspective. Also a good friend, listener and advice giver. Love ya GP.
goes on tangents too often. Talks about unimportant content.
I took his class last semester and he is a super nice chap that cares about his students. His meditation sessions were very helpful when I was having a stressful day. All that is required is to do the reading, turn up to class, and take 2 short quizzes each week. He doesn't focus on the "culture" of the church/school which is refreshing!
Bro Purse is a good teacher and knows the content. The homework was straight forward, do the reading, take the quiz and your done. That being said, class time felt very disorganized and disconnected from the content. A lot of the discussion was on current events and not on the history we were studying. During class I was usually bored.
Took this class remotely and the reading schedule and readings were a mess. The reading schedule changed a lot, he wouldn't send us links to our readings until the morning before class. He gets very distracted telling stories, we discussed the very long readings for maybe 10-15 minutes of each class. Grade based solely on a quiz after each class
Brother Purse is a good teacher, but he gets lost on tangents a lot and isn't always clear on what he wants you to do. You have to attend class, and you have to do your reading, that's really how you get your grade. His exams are the midterm and final and don't count toward your grade, you can take them to get extra credit or earn needed points.
Brother Purse is the best religion professor I have ever had. He was so engaging. This was the only class I looked forward to. He is so cheerful, and you can't help but feel good when class is over. I would 15/10 take another class from him if I can. I learned so much in a class that was discussion led. There was never a boring day.
Brother Purse knows his stuff and is very knowledgeable about the different religions he teaches. However, he tends to go off topic quite a bit, often bringing up political and controversial topics, stating his own opinions about them. I wish more time was spent learning about Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. instead of off-topic rants.
Okay so I get how some people like him, but for me he was very unprofessional. He makes jokes about how cool he is and he was very clear on his political opinions even if he never said it. Shares doctrine that is not true. Very cringy class. Didnt feel the spirit from him
Easy religion class if taken with Brother Purse. All that is required is showing up & doing the reading before hand. He even has a point recovery final in order to make up points missed for missing class or not completing the reading before class. He is easily distracted and lectures a lot but overall pretty easy A religion class.
Absolutely frustrating. Class attendance heavily affects grade, and Brother Purse spends more time talking about personal opinions and unrelated anecdotes than he does about relevant or engaging topics. Often used religious themes to push his own political opinions, and compared the recent push for police reform to the mobs that ravaged the saints.
I've taken several courses from Brother Purse because he teaches the gospel in such a refreshing way. He facilitates a great discourse community where religious and secular topics are discussed openly, and students can discuss current events in relation to gospel principles. He cares about his students and structures the course for their success.
Brother Purse helped me gain confidence in public speaking at a time when I had very little self confidence. He is a brilliant public speaker himself, so it helped to see his example. He is a caring and dedicated professor.
No single university course I have ever taken has more impacted my life for good than this course. Brother Purses thoughtful and inspiring lectures helped light a fire of testimony in me for The Book of Mormon. His own testimony and life experience brought the book to life in class. I would highly recommend him for any course.
Brother Purse is the best religion professor I took in my time at both BYU-Idaho and BYU-Provo. He is passionate about applying gospel principles to the crazy world in which we live. The few negative comments I have seen do not reflect my personal experience in taking 5 (!) of his courses. Brother Purse is simply the best!
Where do I start? We covered the whole D&C in a single semester and it was an amazing experience. Brother Purse is caring, inspiring, passionate, engaging, personable, hilarious, and brilliant! His personal conversion story is incredible. His grading and quiz regimen is more than fair and straight forward. I couldnt recommend him more highly!
Brother Purse has great content for his classes. The prep reading is awesome. The problem is his presentation of information. He goes on tangents (about himself) and introduces doctrines as ideas and ideas as doctrine. Attendance is mandatory, but class is pointless and unfocused. It's a lot like paying to go to a bad Sunday school class. Easy A.
Brother Purse is knowledgeable in the scriptures, but he is hard to follow while teaching. You have two, 100 point quizzes each week. The final is a extra credit project which was easy. If you don't go to class you don't get the class "password" for the quiz so defiantly go to class. YOU WILL hear his same stories over and over again.
Bro. Purse spends a lot of time talking about personal opinions and stories rather than teaching. He gives an attendance code within the first 5-10 minutes of class. Then you use this code to take a quiz for each class. The quiz information is in the reading but most times can be found or is common knowledge about the gospel.
Brother Purse is a great religion teacher. This was the second semester I took him in a row. His classes are super easy because he focuses more on actually discussing the gospel, rather than bombarding students with assignments and tests just to pass the time. He sometimes gets sidetracked sharing his own opinions, but he tries to be fair about it.
I took his World Religions Class and it was the most boring class. Huge waste of time as you must be in class, perfectly attentive the entire time or else he is "in the box" towards you. He basically reads word for word exactly what you were supposed to read for homework and then you will have anywhere between 1-4 100 point tests after class.
Professor Purse is such a nice person. He loves his students. Also, if you show up for class you will pass. Even if you miss the quiz a few times there is a large point recovery final. Anybody who cares just a little bit about his/her GPA will get an easy A in this interesting class from an amazing professor.
Brother Purse is really awesome. He is by far the best religion teacher on campus. I would take him for every section if I could! You rock brother Purse. Enjoy retirement
