Professor Gaffney teaches down at the Davie Campus, so I had to make that drive twice a week to take his class; but I had heard so much about him I just had to see for myself. He is everything they say, a great teacher, very caring, with a wicked wit (watch out!). It was well worth the drive.

Great teacher. Extremely interesting and entertaining. Going to class is mandatory but not a problem. Very helpful and if willing to do a little work is an easy A.

He knows his stuff! He listens to students and even asks for votes on due dates. Very Helpful just email him. Easy A with some effort.Gave lectures that were entertaining and helped with tests so write down what he says. GREAT teacher. No way to fail!

By far, the best professor I've EVER had in college. He is very helpfull, always ready to assist. MAKES you prepare for class by reading -and then is very entertaining when you get there. Exams are difficult; I don't know about this "easy A" everyone is talking about ... but he does grade fair. Very very funny. A Doll.

He is very good at what he does. He messes around alot when it comes to quizzes. He has take home test and the dept and eth exam is very easy. Got an "A" on both. Best class for 2008 by far. Makes you laugh with his stories. Other than that you'll pass, but test are hard and i would suggest u to buddy up with a group of people (trust me on that)

I read all of the comments about him by students down in Davie, and then took his class up here in Boca, and he really is the BEST. Exams are tricky.

Excellent professor. He gives you every chance to get an A. Very nice man but don't try to pull any BS on this guy. Not intimidated by students in the least. Must be an excellent lawyer because he somehow gets people to admit when they haven't done their assigned work, which I found hilarious. "READ!!!"

He drives around campus in all those old mercedes convertibles, what does he have 4? So one day he pulls up before class at the crosswalk (in the light blue one), and seeS me and asks if I read. I say yes. He looks at RIGHT AT me and said, no you didn?t! And he was right!!! And I was wearing sunglasses! Great teacher.FAIR. Tricky exams...READ!

If you are thinking of going to law school, this is the guy to take. I took his ethics class - he is very helpful, in and out of class. Lots of tips on writing and law school (he was law review ed-in-chief and editor in chief of the Florida Bar Journal). Recommend highly.

Not the easiest A in the world, but he's an excellent instructor. You have to know your stuff for the first exam, but the second is take home. His exams are a little like "betting the house," but worth it.

BEST Professor at FAU. Fair, very funny, and a great teacher, you really learn a lot. Exams are difficult, but an A is very possible if you go to class and study. He suggests you outline the material in each chapter and that worked for me. We also had a study group. Be sure to read before class, and he takes attendance, so watch out.

He is the best teacher ever!!!! Attendance is mandatory, but you will like being there because he is funny. He is a big jokester, so be ready for his "surprise quizzes." The tests can be tricky, but just be sure to read the questions. I would definitely take another one of his classes if i needed to! He helps you with legal advice too.

1 flaw-He is nearly impossible to get a hold of and told 99% of the students who had a question, BIG or Small, to email him (DOESN'T always reply).I nearly got into an arguement with him over his "email-me" crap. Other than that he's one of the best @FAU.He's VERY funny, comes in late like the rest of us, and knows his Stuff. Read and you'll pass.

Professor Gaffney is a very, very good teacher. He knows the material-you can ask him any question, and gives you the answer right off of his head. Several times he lectured without notes! Doesn't use PP, you have to take notes. 3 exams, lowest grade dropped. He really helps prepare you for the "Departmental Exam" at the end of the course.

I had Professor Gaffney for "Advanced" Contracts" at the Davie Campus in '05. I am now in my second year of law school at UM, and what he taught me has been more helpful than I could have imagined. He told us we had a "lawyer" friend for life, and true to his word, he helped me with a very sensitive legal problem just last month. Best at FAU.

Best teacher at FAU. You will learn more in one class then you will in ten other courses combined, and the way he teaches you makes it a joy to learn. Wish there were more like him, everyone I know says the same thing. You actually enjoy going to class. He is always late. 3 Exams.

If you intend on going to Law School, take Gaffney's Ethics class...it is AWESOME! He's the best Prof at FAU. Realy gets you to THINK>

Took Gaffney for both B Law and Ethics. He's a very good prof, one of best at FAU. His Ethics class is a fantastic prep course for pre law, and he wrote me a great reccomendation letter to Law School. Gaffney is a incredible proffesor.If his question don't make you laugh in the middle of the exam is because you did not do WHAT HE TOLD YOU TO DO! Keep up with the readings and get the departamental exam question key answer as soon as possible.

You learn so much from Professor Gaffney in this class, and he makes going to class fun and intersting. There are 3 exams and a "departmenatal" exam, he drops the lowest grade but you have to get a passing grade on the departmental to pass the course (he really helps).

FAU's#1 Professor by a wide margin. Knows his subject inside/out,he's been to the Supreme Court many times.Ask him any question about the law, he either knows the answer right off his head or gets it for you. Very accessible, email him, he responds faster and in greater depth than any teacher I had in 4 years here. Wish he taught everything!

He's got the biggest mustache you ever saw! Good public speaker, he explains it so well and is funny saying it! Be prepared to learn a lot in this class, but all very useful in real life. He has tons or real life experience and was high profile a long time but now he just hangs out teaching. He's great! The "great gaffney!"

I had him for Biz law, a good prof, just follow his instructions, read, outline, study and get an A...!(or B+) He does take attendance and he penalizes for more than 2 absences, but he's very helpful and explains everything, and he even answers e mail questions fast...3 exams. 1 take home, all tricky!

The class IS too crowded, we had 70, I was lucky, got the last seat! But if you sit up front, or bring a recorder you hear all of the jokes and sly remarks, he is brilliant and talks a mile-a-minute. I learned so much in this class, he's a great teacher. 3 exams, all CRAZY - but he drops the lowest grade,and one is a take home, but it is not easy.

"Gaffinski the Great!" Truly the best professor at FAU, been here forever, everyone I know says the same things. He requires attendance (you must sign in)and you have to read before class, b/c he asks everyone questions, even though the class is huge!! If you take ONE course at this University, you must take Gaffney's "Business Law" class. He uses real life cases hes worked on as examples, and is very good at teaching you the law. Professor Gaffney is the real deal...he is very approachable, and will help you more than any other Professor at this University. The class is too crowded, but he is worth it to take. He makes you read with quuizzes.

If you intend going to law school, Gaffney's "Ethics" class is a must. He actually teaches you how to write (hes an editor!) and gives you tips on grdauate school and life in genral. He's a good guy, too, a real fine teacher, the best professor I have had.

I have taken Gaffney twice now and have really enjoyed both courses. He brings real world practicality into the material covered by the text. Assignments are clearly explained and the tests come directly from the book. If you get a bad grade you have no one to blame but yourself.

Every day he says there will be a quiz, so you read - and there is never a quiz!!! (and He says, "I Win"..)! By the end of the semester you have read the ENTIRE book!!!! (and you know the law). He has 5 quizes, I think I maybe did 3 and then the other 2 he GAVE the whole class full credit for. He drops lowest test grade. He has no sympathy though, so save it

The part I like most about this course is that Professor Gaffney uses actual cases that are in the law books that HE worked on, many where he was at the Supreme court! He is just fascinating to listen to, and is just a brilliant - not to mention very FUNNY - Professor. Recomend highly.

I am taking his class now (summer) and I have to say he is the most helpful Professor I have EVER had. But there is a LOT of material to cover in this class, and there is a comprehensive final/department quiz I am not looking forward to - but Gaffney IS the real deal, I can confirm that already.

A wonderful, wonderful class. I love his style of teaching which is to make you work very hard, but then be there whenever you need him! Only one flaw, there is an on-line Department "Quiz" at the end of the course that is just plain silly (stupid!). Many students cheat,and everyone (in Gaffney's class, at least)gets a 100. Whomever came up with THAT idea(not Professor Gaffney)needs therapy.

GAFFNEY IS AWESOME! Don't take his 700 onceawk class though, too much to rd and learn and memorize, and by 9pm everyone is in outer space...take the 2times a week class if u cn all his classes very crowed but he's a good teacher

Stop looking, this is the teacher you need to take. Read the chapters before class, they are really short. Do outlines for the 1st test, 2nd one is a home take, and the final is optional. He is really funny and you will like his stories.

DR G is great;only one drawback, he counts attendance so must go to EVERY class or lose points. Going is plus though, he's really good at what he does, and helps you with the Department Exam at the end of the semester which is cumulative. Exams are 1/2 easy and 1/2 HARD. Ver challenging Prof.

Great Professor, knows the subject matter inside and out, always there to help, you have be to be a real "loser" not to do well in this class.Two negatives: he take attendance, and makes you read by promising quizzes. But that helps to weed out the "losers"! Gaffney Rules!

The great Gaff-inski is a really good prof. EXTREMELY hard to can an A but gives out plenty of A-. He is very funny and knows plenty about the subject. His tests are challenging and he forces you to think about the subject. Attendance is mandatory but why miss his class? He should have been a comedian.

Best Professor in the SOA. By "best" I mean caring, helpful,and smart. You get to read about cases he actually argued before the Supreme Court - on the very things you are learning about. He is simply amazing at what he does, and yet down to earth too. Can not say enough, highly reccomend. But be sure to READ!!!!

Here is the deal: This guy teaches because he is passionate about the law & his students he doesn't need the paycheck. He is the finest prof I've had yet because he wants you to learn. He knows how to TEACH and sustain motivation. Not an easy class you must do the work and make the leap from facts to understanding for an A. Follow his advice.

You think all the stuff students write here about him here has to be exagerated, but then you find the same stuff on the other ratings sites and on the school's own SPOT evaluations. Ask anyone who has taken him, it is the same story. He makes you work - but is a VERY good teacher. I am taking him now, and it is all true! Gaffney is awesome!

The "Gaff" had a very challenging class. You need to do you're work and read the text in order to do well in the class. The best part is that he keeps his students engaged in the class and tips on how to study for the course. Yeah, there might be easier professors but you will laugh and learn alot from Gaff

First of all, this guy should be a comedian. Second, he is the best teacher I've had at FAU by far. He knows all his stuff and answers questions quickly off the top of his head. ALWAYS there to help and is incredible at what he does. TAKE HIM no matter what!

Gaffney is a hard garder, and he makes you work, he takes attendance and schedules quizzes almost every day!!! Exams are killer. No doubt he is a good teacher, but the other B law teachers are much easier, I think.

I took him for b law over the summer in '11 it was a great class. Have him now for ethics. highly recommend to all.

Awesome professor. Attendance is mandatory, but he makes it entertaining to go. Lectures mostly just reenforce what you HAD to read prior to class, but if you read it helps you to understand. Definitely recommend for BUL4041, just make sure you go to class. If so, you will do well AND actually learn something by the end.

Had him for business law, incredible teacher. Just make sure you read, if you have any questions definitely email him, he will get back to you almost always immediatley. Relates real life events/cases to material at hand making the class super interesting. DEF RECOMEND HIM

Gaffney is great - just do not take his class if you plan to be absent a lot or keep up with the reading, which there is a ton. He gives pop quizzes, and takes attendance. Literally drags you to a B screaming. He's good, I'll admit, but you really have to work in this class.

The Great Gaffinsky! Best Prof. in the COB. Smart helpful and cool. Just read, come to class, and don't use a cell phone or laptop (he's lo- tech no PP, just him. He's been everywhere and done everything, and is a great source of advice - for me at least.

Professor Gaffney is a hilarious, and highly interesting professor. He knows his stuff like the back of his hand, and teaches without from a handwritten outline. Dr. Gaffney is the best Professor I have had so far in college. Very helpful, funny, smart - everything you want a Professor to be and to do - but this is a very hard course and there is a lot of reading and you have to do the work. He takes attendance, which I actually liked because it forced me to go to class (he takes off for absences).

FAUs celeb Prof. I took his B LAW course at the old Davie Campus in back in 1998 ! and he was AWESOME back then..... 14 years later, just took him for Ethics here ...same, same...the man is a true GEM of a teacher, and a good person, too. You learn something useful every single day. Vey helpful. Can't say enough.

I could tell before the first day (the super long emails before the class started) that he genuinely cares his students. He wants students to learn and we did. 3 tests, one of which is take home. Lowest test is dropped. Attendance is mandatory (the class is worth it, so classes were usually at max capacity) and you really need the book.

Good professor. He's awesome,very funny,worried that you learn. He helps you, and he's always available for students and responds emails. You really need the book and READ chapters and questions. After experiencing Professor Gaffney and his teaching method firsthand,I have to say I now have much greater respect for the COB faculty. He is just amazing "could teach a duck to bark."I would reccomend to all. But,the class does require a great deal of reading/work, so be forewarned!He takes attendance,and no electronics are permitted in class.

The Gaff is very low tech, he doesn't use PP, and no laptops or phones are permitted in class. 5 exams, 3 quizzes and outlines. He don't play any games,and hes one smart dude: "Awesome!!"

It is a difficult course, but he makes its seem almost easy with what is probably the best lecture around. Lots of work though, tons of reading and FIVE exams. And the class is crowded.

Took his on-line ethics class, it was a blast. Just the right amount of work, and he's always there to help. Great discussion course.

B-Law exams much more difficult than Ethics, which I found VERY easy (got an A), enlghtened discussions in ethics.All around great Prof, very helpful.Don't take excuses or procrastination, though, so watch out!

Gaffney IS great, but he takes attendance EVERY single day, and so you have to read EVERY day to get a decent grade as he gives "surpise" quizzes, which I find a pain. Otherwise, he's really good.

Great on-line class. You only have to read one chapter and post 1 time every week after passing an easy quiz. Interesting issues every day.

Agree with last rater, but there are three "Gaffney" type exams and they are NOT easy. Also you must "present" a Chapter of the text on-line (not difficult, you can use word or powerpoint or prezi, etc.) Overall, a fun class, but there is a lot of work.

Took his online summer course. His test are especially made before each exam and are not easy but you will learn more than you come in expecting to learn. He's a very nice guy, and an okay prof., except for the fact that he doesn't really teach! We all have to 'present' to the class all the chapters, with some interruptions from him. He makes his test impossibly hard, with most questions containing very distracting and confusing typos. He takes off two point for every class missed. DO NOT TAKE!

Best on line course I have taken here. One quiz, and 2-3 posts per week, 3 exams (drops the lowest) and a presentation (on BB ). He's a pretty fair grader, and the topics discussed are INTERESTING - so the semester really flies by. I actually missed it when class was over!

This guy is the coolest professor your going to find. his tests are pretty hard but honestly if you read you will pass no problem. He doesn't really teach from the book he just gives many scenarios and explains them. 3 exams..1 gets dropped... and 1 is a take home...1 presentation that is super easy and 5 quizzes. definitely recommend this guy!

A solid on-line course. You learn a lot. Not too heavy a workload,and Gaffney is one of the best. He's had many big cases at the Supreme Court, and he will write a law school recomedation letter if you do well. Three exams and a presenation on BB, weekly blog and chapter quizzes.

Great class; great professor. He really cares that his students LEARN the material (read!) and there is a LOT, maybe 1000 pages of LAWS. Every time I e-mailed him, he was right there to provide me a great answer, and even funny examples. Always lifts my spirits up. Would take a class again with him in a heartbeat. I took Dr. Gaffney's lecture class (BUL I)and the "presenation" format he uses in BLAW II.Strongly prefer the lectures.Like everyone says,he's brlliant, maybe the best lecturer here, can sit and talk for hours on any legal subject. The presentations-they just get in the way. He takes roll and give daily quizzes. You have to really work to get by.

He's good professor, but his on Line Ethics Class is a LOT of work - especially if you want a B or above. Multiple posting required, and quizzes every single week. Three (tough) exams, AND an on line Presentation of an entire chapter of the text. If you are looking for an 'easy' on line course, this is not it.

Gafffney is a a lawyer who is also a fine teacher, he really cares whether students LEARN. Professor Gaffney is one of the most awesome and nice professors at FAU. His class is brutally hard, but he tries his hardest to make it easier for his students. He's also a great and helpful guy once you get to know him. Volunteer for extra presentations if you can. He will award you handsomely. READ and Outline every chapter and you should be ok!

Law in general is quite challenging, however, Gaffney made the material a little easier to grasp by encouraging outlines. Very warm, humble, and incredibly hilarious. Through the torturous presentations, I still found this course to be one of my favorites this semester. And his eyes. The bluest you've ever seen...

Professor Gaffney is the best ON LINE professor I have ever had the pleasure to learn from! He really is accomodating and helpful, and he pushes you to learn. I agree with other raters, he really makes you work! It's worth it though, I learned more in this ONE class than in all the others I've taken -combined. He's a must take.

Professor Gaffney is the best professor I've had during the time I've attended FAU. His class structure is quite different from any other class. You have to read and outline every chapter. Gaffney, Freaking Rocks, Great guy and you learn a lot from his course. The only problem is the reading the book because its boring as hell, but Professor Gaffney makes everyone outline the chapters each week so the class can use the outline to study. You have to read and outline(work)EVERY week, so if you are lazy, or a slacker, you should avoid this class if you can - but if you put the in work you can do well. This is senior/graduate level course only - it really requires a LOT of work. Do not take it over the summer much less as an elective if you are not ready to put in at least 20+ hours a week. Dr. Gaffney is great though, he is a real pro, has been to the Supreme Court many times, knows the law, and responds to your e mails right away. Tough exams.

Without a doubt the BEST on-line Prof at this school! Difficult class, but an A- is very possible if you do the work. I love the way he 'intentionally' mispells certain critical words on the Exams (proper nouns) so the "loser" students who don't work and troll these on-line classes can't just 'search' their digital text for answers! Gaffney is beyond unique. First off he makes the students do most of the work. Well that is not entirely true he is so helpful. All you have to do is read don''t do that you are doomed and he will answer any question you ask. He provides clear understandable explanations sometimes in just minutes. A more caring teacher you will not find here at at FAU. If you do not want to work or are just taking the course for your Florda CPA requirements stay away. The workload is daunting to say the least. He is a praticing lawyer and doesn''t take I have to work as an excuse. I learned that the hard way

As many of the prior raters have already said, Dr. Gaffney is fun, helpful and smart. He just wants students to work hard and learn the laws - and enjoy doing it. He answers all questions quickly. Can't improve on this model too much. Exams are a real challenge, but even THEY contain jokes. 1500 pages of reading!

This has been the best on-line course I have taken at FAU. Very well-organized, with clear instructions, and you do most (all) of the work, and you pretty much determine your grade by the amount of work you chose to put in. Professor Gaffney was ALWAYS there to help, and was always available to explain anything, even if it was not class-related.

I liked his class, would take another. Very unique teacher, he wants the entire class to learn the course (the class is one big group project), and your grade is based on attendance and the work you put in, which is a lot. You must outline every chapter, and present one to the class. 3 exams, one take-home. He is always there when you need him.

Great teacher! I would recommend taking his class. He's a pretty witty teacher but in a funny way. Always available to answer your questions and you can tell he really cares about his students doing well in the class. Not to say this class is a breeze. You do have to put in time to get a good grade. Requires lots of reading and 1 powerpoint too.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Tests are tough but only 2 of 3 count and one is a take home exam and the final was more than fair. The quizzes are pretty easy. A lot of content for one semester and you definitely have to read if you want an A. Class is interesting and he knows what he's talking about. Attendance will only help you too.

I just found out that Dr. Gaffney retired from FAU this fall. Took him for Business Law I way back in 2007, it was a great class. I was gong to take his "Ethics" class this spring, I had heard so many good things about it. Too late now, but he was one of the best teachers I have ever had! He'll be tough to replace. Read!
