Makes class enjoyable in which students learn and KEEP information.
I loved this class!
Very funny and almost cruelly sarcastic. Wonderful stories.
Ornery and funny. Jokes that make you go aaaaaaaaaaaaah. Teaches straight to the test. Take him, he is a good man.
Excellent prof! Very funny, sexual jokes. This class is a must-take! Taught right to the test. A lot of studying, but well worth it!
Amazing prof! Interesting guy who has a lot of clinical experience and knowledge. Tests are hard, but if you study hard you will do well. I have taken 3 of his classes and learned more than any other in my college career.
He is a wonderful teacher and a hilarious guy. He keeps you interested and wide awake in those early morning classes. His tests are tough, but not impossible if you buckle down and study up. Careful, he smells fear and freshmen...
I took two back-to-back classes from Dr. Saver, many years ago and thought both were some (actually very few) of my best classes ever taken during my undergrad years!
If you love to laugh, Sarver's class is for you.
Hilarious and very informative. Like others have said before, his tests are really hard, but despite that, this was definitly a highlight class thanks to Prof. Sarver.
Dr. Sarver is hilarious! He passes the exam questions out the first day of class - it's a lot of material, but you'll do fine if you study. He has years of clinical experience & personal knowledge to include in lectures. Class is never dull - I really enjoyed going. One of the best professors at OU!
So funny... I was in stitches from the time I walked in until the time I left! It was really interesting and I learned so much. I wound up with an A- after studying 10 hours for the final... whoa.
Hilarious! One of the best classes I have ever taken...anywhere. There is a lot of material, but as long as you take good notes, you'll be fine. I didn't buy the book or anything and got a B+ in there. It's not as hard as people and he makes it out to be. The material sticks with you!
I've taken a couple classes with him and love it. there is only a midterm and a final, both in essay form where you answer two questions. you really gotta study but he is fair. And he is so funny, I actually liked going to class! Definitely take him if you can! The best psych class ever!
Its an ok class. With only two grades you have to keep on top of the work to keep your grades up. Very fair teacher!
Sarver is GREAT! Eventhough his class is A LOT of work (essay midterm and final), you will learn so much. He keeps students interested because he's so funny.
This class is very entertaining and is one of the first classes I've taken in college that I have actually looked forward to going to. Sarver knows what he is talking about, but makes his tests somewhathard. Make sure you study because both the midterm and the final are essay tests.
Very disappointed in taking this class. I did not find him as funny as I thought he was annoying. His tests are hard because he decides what kind of grade to give you and he doesnt respond to emails!
Great class! Very interesting and Sarver is a lot of fun, but definitely be prepared to study and work hard with only a essay midterm and final.
My favorite professor ever! The tests are extremely hard, so take great notes and go to class everyday. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you need it to even get a C. Besides, his lectures are so entertaining, you won't want to miss class.
I can't remember what class I had with him, but I do remember I was a freshman in with all juniors, so it was a 300 level class. It was very interesting and difficult, but I worked really hard and did well in it!
I loved this class. He is an awesome prof. It was a lot of work though, but he makes the material very easy to learn. Great class.
I was prepared to be challenged academically, but it turned out to be an exercise in self-restraint. Most of his humor is based upon the simple fact that he swears and some of his jokes are very offensive and have little to do with course material. You are taught a lot and have to memorize it, but some of the information is questionably true.
By far the best professor on this campus. His sense of humor and examples give even the most lamest kids a chuckle. He swears and tells some stuff you don't expect to hear but its hillarious. Only 2 grades for his class. Midterm Final. Blue book style essay. Your judgement on that. Never a boring day in a class with sarver. Good class to wake up to
Ridiculously hard class. You only have two grades-the midterm and the final. They're both blue book essays. He gives you all of the possible questions on the 1st day of class, and you have to study like crazy to do well. He tells you the first day that he rarely gives A's. But he's really funny and cool; the class is fun and interesting.
He is a really good professor. He is funny and explains thing really well. He is always willing to take time to answer questions. His class is hard--only a midterm and a final-both essay. But he gives you the questions and you just have to study a lot. I feel like i learned more in this class than any other class I have taken here
This guy is TOUGH. However, he is very knowledgeable, and hilarious. You have to hear the way he imitates kids - priceless.
I took personality and developmental with him as an undergrad and now that I'm a grad student I appreciate how hard he made me work to get an A in his classes. He's a great teacher, probably the best you'll ever have. If you are a slacker, you won't make it through.
Best professor I have EVER had, but the hardest class I've ever had too. It is possible to get an A, but don't expect to sleep much the night before the exams. Honestly, the two classes I had with him are the only two classes I've taken that are worth the money I pay to this school.
Wow, Amazing funny smart interesting class/teacher. Learned so much from this class I love it, I'm taking all classes from him. Only grades are 2 tests. They are essay tests that you will study all day and night for. I spent 2 hours on each essay question. 2 essay questions make up the midterm and final. Suck it up and take this class.
Great professor. Not a morning person but made it to almost every class (9am). He's really funny and a great teacher. I hate studying and I had no problem pulling two all nighters for the two exams, which are your only grades. You learn a lot. Definitely take him.
Amazing professor. Intelligent and makes the material fun. If you have any questions he is willing to help. His exams are stressful only becasue you have to know all the information, but I had fun and wanted to go to class in the morning, so studying wasn't as hard as he made it seem. He also links material together well and does funny voices.
Priceless class with a prof from a kind that went extinct somewhere in the late eighties when all that political correctness crap kicked in. Bold, hilarious and extremely knowledgeable, one of the very few professors I've ever had that at the end of the day I felt like buying a beer to, rather than punching in the face.
Bold? Absolutely. When a professor emphatically states, "There are many women I see in my practice who are very attached to me." RED FLAGS go up. Intelligent? Maybe. He has vast knowledge of the history and practice of psychology, but can he think outside the box....prove it.
It says he's not politically correct right on the syllabus. Yeah he curses a lot which I don't find comical even if professional stand ups but he is good at what his job is and that's teaching. However, it should also have a disclaimer about his skepticism. He throws out some borderline info that you'd have to be a Phd to rebut. All-in-all good
I have taken Sarver twice now and wish that he taught more classes. I am annoyed by all of the negative comments. The man is extremely funny and intelligent. He knows what he is talking about and after 10 weeks of listening to his lectures, you should too. Go to class, pay attention, prepare your essays... you deserve the grade you receive.
if you arent good at blue book exams or taking notes just from lecture then get out now. he doesnt use powerpoints and doesnt tell you exactly where info comes from in book. only two grades: midterm and final. its really not as hard as it sounds. he gives you the questions on 1st day and you talk about those for the whole course.
Sarver was great. His class is really not that hard if you're a disciplined student. He makes the topic extremely interesting and pertinent to adulthood, not just childhood and adulescence.
he is hilarious and my favorite prof by far. the hour goes so fast and i never look at the clock. I look forward to going to class. He is old fashion but you learn why more that way!TAKE HIS CLASS
My favorite Prof., no homework, never really used the book. Made the class so interesting and I didn't mind going at all. I hope to take his classes in the future. He's very funny, may curse but its tolerable. Only midterm and final both essay. He teaches right to the questions so that makes things a little easier. Great class.
He is a very very good teacher but his testing format is soooooo difficult.
Sarver is hilarious. I've taken 2 classes with him, and while he repeats some of his jokes, his classes are always entertaining and you usually learn some cool random facts. Only grades are midterm and final, two essay questions each, but he's a pretty fair grader and as long as you study it's not bad at all.
Great teacher! He has been a practicing therapist for 40years so he has so many stories and examples to relate to material. Don't expect a textbook lecture. The class requires time but is so worth it because you retain the material. He teaches so that material is relevant in classroom and in your daily life.
He is a great professor! It was a 9:00 AM class and I still never wanted to miss it. But it is very difficult. Midterm and final exams are your only grades and they are blue book/essay form. He will tell you day one you are not going to get an A. He's entertaining though, I recommend him 100%.
Dr. Sarver is brilliant. His class is very challenging. You will get a rubric day one with the possible questions for midterm and final. I recommend to begin studying AT LEAST 2 weeks prior, maybe more. The best way to study is to teach your room mate what you're learning in class. He is very knowledgeable and funny, I highly recommend him.
He's a very tough grader, but you learn so much and, more importantly, RETAIN so much from his classes.
Dr. Sarver is awesome! His classes are so interesting and funny. It's definitely not a problem paying attention in class. Rarely gives out A's and he only has a midterm and a final which are both essays, but if you know the material its not hard to get an A-. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for an interesting class.
This teacher diffently knows what he is talking about. But if you dont like essay exams then do NOT take him!!!!! Also if u are looking for a A in the class good luck he says at the being of class that he rarely ever gives A's and he means it !!
He is amazing! im the type of person to daydream really easily but he kept my attention every class. He knows what he is talking about and you actually LEARN the material not just memorize
Serious students only. You will learn more in his class than you will all year. And he'll make you work for it! He's my favorite professor. Hilarious. But be ready to study A LOT if you want a decent grade.
This professor is by far my favorite! He really keeps your interest the whole time, his class is never boring. The only exams you will have are one midterm and one final. Definitely need to study for the exams well but this class is well worth your time!
I absolutely love him as a professor. Hard as hell, but definitely taught me the most so far of any teacher I've ever had.
Dr. Sarver is an AMAZING professor. This class isn't mandatory, but you should attend every class. Plus, he gives great stories and is very entertaining so you wouldn't want to miss a class. Only two blue book exams so you have to study A LOT if you want a good grade. BUT TAKE HIS CLASSES, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
He's a great teacher, he's knowledgable and I looked forward his lecture even though it was ar 8am. Great Professor! He's funny and uses stories about his (grand)children as examples. The tests are essay. You study for 6 questions and 1 is chosen on the day of the exam. Don't expect an A though. On the midterm only 2 out of ~40 people got an A-
One of the BEST professors I have ever had. I love his style of teaching He tells great stories that motivated me to come to his 8am class everyday! There is a midterm and a final, both essay exams which are graded intensely There is a lot of memorization involved because you don't know what question will be picked on the day of the exam. Take Him!
A knowledgeable, down to earth professor who seems to thoroughly enjoy teaching psychology. He has ample clinical experience to draw upon for lectures, so they are interesting as well as informed. Tests are 4-7 page essays written in class, which can be stressful, but will ensure that most information is retained.
Favorite teacher of all time. It was also the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. He is so interesting it is hard to not attend though. They knowledge you take from the class is worth the effort though.
Dr. Sarver is the best professor I have had to date. His teaching style is to the point and he is so knowledgable on the subject. He is also probably the most difficult teacher I have had. You will not get an A in this class unless you dedicate your life to it. Midterm & Final: 2 essay questions each. That's it. He does give A-'s and B's though.
Dr. Sarver is a phenomenal professor. Go to class each day and take good notes. The mid-term and final exams are essays. You will be given the questions the first day of class. Your job is to prepare for the essays, which is answering the questions you have been given. Although studying for the essays was stressful, I learned a lot in his class.
He claims he's a very hard professor but he's not. There's just an essay midterm and a final. If you go to class everyday and study your notes for the tests you'll probably get an A-. If you want an A you have to do extra research and add new information, I didn't think it was worth it. Interesting professor and good class.
Possibly the hardest class I have ever taken in my life and I walked away with an A-. Dr. Sarver is the best professor I have ever had, he actually teaches and you - get this - actually retain the information! Crazy right? Fantastic class, loved it and loved Dr. Sarver.
This is the hardest class I have taken when it comes to studying, but the BEST professor I have had. He has a funny personality, which keeps class interesting and he knows what he's talking about. He's had clinical experience and relates topics to examples and stories. I still know everything I learned in that class!
With only 2 grades (midterm and final essays) and a total of 12 essays given in advance, its doable, but he doesn't give A's usually. Funny guy, decent teacher, harsh grader. If you want a challenge and have easy courses, go for it. If you care about your GPA, consider a different professor
Took him twice, for Psy273 and 332. Interesting teacher, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. There are only two tests, a midterm and final, which I liked because it gave me time to focus on my other classes. But the exams are HARD- Study at least a week in advance. Overall Excellent teacher! Definitely take him for an interesting class.
He is a really funny guy and a good teacher. Attendance isn't mandatory, but advised. He doesn't put anthing online, so unless you have someone you can get good notes from, go to class! No quizes or homework, just a midterm and a final. As long as you know your notes, you will be fine.
One of the best psych profs I've had. He knows his crap and isn't afraid to be honest with you about the material. Hilarious and makes class fun. Tests are not easy (Essay Format)you really have to study but if you're a major I highly recommend this type of class because you actually are learning the info instead of memorizing and spittin
Class is very interesting and he makes the lectures easy to learn and remember. Study for your exams and make sure you take notes and you'll do just fine.
He is an awesome teacher! Very funny and easy to talk to. You really need to go to class because or else you will for sure fail.
He's a really nice funny guy. He makes lectures interesting. There is never homework. However your grade is based on a 2 essay midterm (40%) and an essay final (60%). He grades hard and rarely gives a's but a-'s and b+ are pretty common. There's a lot to memorize but if you put in the study time beforehand you'll be fine. Really great professor!
Gary Sarver is fantastic. I had his class at 8am and looked forward to attending it every morning. He just gives a midterm and a final, but if you attend class and read your textbook, you'll be just fine. His stories are hilarious and helpful to the content being presented. He's a great professor and you'll learn a lot from him.
I took 2 psych classes with him my first year and he was awesome! He has great stories and is a great teacher as well. You dont have to attend class but i would definitely recommend it considering his tests are hard as is his grading.
Best prof I've ever had at Ohio University, amazing teacher. I did not want to take this class starting out, but he knows what he's doing and he is so easy to listen to. Need to attend and pay attention in class his tests are essay and he demands you know the material. He's an Amazing person, he loves what he does and it shows.
I absolutely LOVE Dr. Sarver! He is an amazing educator and really loves what he does. He tells great jokes and stories. You need to go to class because all exams are essays. I've had 3 classes with him, all in the mornings, and I actually enjoy getting up and going to the classes! I highly recommend taking every class possible with Dr. Sarver!!!!
Best teacher I've had at OU. Really knows his stuff. Class is fun and not mandatory. Essays are easy if you study. YOU WILL NOT GET AN A, but easy B+ or A-
Dr. Sarver is my absolute favorite prof at OU. I have had 3 classes with him and I always look forward to his classes! He's not easy but if you attend class and actually study, you can easily get a b+. I definitely recommend him!
This is the best teacher I have ever had. Hands down. He makes you work for your grade, but I was glad to do it because on top of being an amazing teacher he is an awesome human being. His humor is very blunt and logical but he has some of the best stories. Go to Class and study hard. He makes his class hard to keep slackers out.
Professor Sarvers Class is very intresting and one that i actually enjoyed attending. This class though is very challenging, there is only a midterm and a final and there both between a numerous amount of essays and the topic for your essay isn't choosen until the day of the test. Intresting class but be prepared to STUDY!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It is sooo hard. I am retaking it with a diff professor. Sarver is a hilarious and interesting guy but his class is death. It might seem easy at first but once it hits you that LITERALLY EVERY PART OF THE BOOK needs to be within your mind you'll lose it. I DO NOT recommend this class.
I LOVE Sarver. His class is like a stand up comedy. He makes you enjoy coming to class. Midterm essay=40% of your grade. Final essay= 60%. You will need to study HARD and make outlines because you will not know what topic you have to write about until the day of the test. I thought it was going to be a nightmare and i got a B !
Take any class you can with Sarver! He is an amazing professor, even though his class is not mandatory you will actually want to go!Take it in the morning, it will set you in a good mood for the rest of the day. His tests are all essay, but it's the only class so far that I still can remember everything I learned.
I've taken every class Sarver teaches and even though his exams are essays it's not that hard if you prepare yourself. He's an awesome and hilarious professor. By far the best at OU. Even though there's no mandatory attendance you'll need to go or else your'e screwed. Don't be a sissy take a class with him.
Attending Sarver's lectures is like watching a stand up comedy routine. He's funny and his class is actually interesting. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go every day you will miss A LOT. Your whole grade for the class is based on the midterm and final which are essays. Memorize your notes and read the textbook and you'll be fine.
Hands down the best professor I have had in 4 years of college. His lectures are absolutely sublime! Getting an 'A' on his written exams is tedious yet possible; and if you bomb it, he generally doesn't give under a 'C' as long as you at least try. The downside to this class? You'll realize just how much most of your other professors suck.
Hands down, best teacher I have ever had at OU. I took his class in the summer and never wanted to miss one! His test require a lot of work so be prepared. Made class super interesting and fun! Definitely recommended! Love him!
Best professor I've had! His two exams are essays and he makes it very clear that, in order to get an "A" on them, you will need to know all the information in your notes (so go to class because he won't post them online) as well as reference the textbook and outside sources. His classes are hard, but they're completely worth it! Study!
Best professor ever! He has so much experience and he's hilarious. There was never a day that I didn't want to attend his lecture. There's only a midterm and a final, but it's definitely do-able and worth it. Take his class
Sarver is probably the best professor I have had thus far. He's so funny and makes every lecture fun to listen too. The exams are difficult though, so if you like to slack off this class probably isn't for you.
3rd class with Sarver, no regrets! I'm not even interested in clinical psychology and I'm taking his class. I literally enjoy his classes that much. If you do want to be a clinical psychologist than you would be doing a disservice to yourself by not taking his class. You will learn SO much. He has 44 years of clinical practice experience.
Very difficult class. I took this while taking Sue Westendorf's BIOS 2050 class, and it helped my tremendously. Used her class as a reference in all my essays, even used PSY 1010. Interesting lectures but A LOT of stress. Great Prof but I don't want to take another class with him. Go to class and write verbatim what he says. Memorize everything.
Extremely interesting lecture. Many classes I was upset when it was class ended because I was so engaged in the lecture. However, the only grades are 2 essay exams, which are very difficult. Grade consists of information from both lectures, the book, and outside research outside of class. He does tie the book into the lectures at all.
He is an excellent lecturer. The grade is 40% midterm and 60% final exams. That's it. So if you have test anxiety. maybe consider someone who does more frequent testing.
Dr. Sarver is by far my favorite professor. The exams, as you heard, are definitely stressful and you HAVE to try hard, but it is honestly worth it. His lectures are amazing and not some boring PowerPoint, which makes it easy to pay attention and learn the material. Take him, no doubt!! (Book is a must have if you want an A)
One of my favorite professors so far. Class is VERY tough and you will have to put in a lot of work and studying. He has extended responses instead of regular exams for his midermfinal. If you're looking for an easy A, take a different class. but if you truly need to understand the material, go with Sarver.
I am currently taking my second class with Dr. Sarver. He is a dedicated and funny professor. His classes are tough: Grades are midterm and final and both essay. In order to have any chance of getting an A you have to write everything from his lecture and material from the book AND use outside sources. But, you have the questions ahead of time.
He is probably the best professor I have had, The way he teaches makes it easier to take in the information and retain it. He is so entertaining! And if you don't understand something or wondering about something that he is covering then just ask because he will explain to the best of his ability.
Dr. Sarver is really into what he teaches. He gives great lectures and you wish that class would be longer. It's a must that you take a class with him. You won't regret it.
Dr. Sarver's class is notoriously difficult. His exams are only essays and the midterm is 40% of your grade and the final is 60%. If you work hard, you can do it. The class is amazing and you learn so much.
Dr. Sarver is by far the best professor I have had yet. I love him. He is funny and always willing to help you if you need help. If you don't want to go to class then don't take him. I didn't think he was that tough of a grader but be prepared to be stressed and to put a lot of effort in. In his class you actually retain the material. TAKE HIM.
He was amazing! His grading consists of only an essay midterm and final. As long as you know the material and know what you are talking about on the exams it is an easy B.
Very hard class. Two grades all semester. Midterm 40% overall and final 60% overall.
I'm just about to finish up the course but the class really is amazing. He is an amazing professor and lecturer and I plan on taking classes with him again. The class is only a essay midterm and an essay final which really are not all that bad, the class just requires you to put in a lot of hours of studying.
Dr. Sarver was such a fun professor. We only had two tests (midterm and a final) so your grade is based off of that only. DO NOT SKIP CLASS! He doesn't use blackboard and all of his notes will only be found in class. It sounds hard, but was very interesting and fun. He has a lot of stories and jokes to tell. Always kept our class laughing!
He is very in touch with himself. Definitely a free spirit, love his teaching style.
His exams are two essays one of them is 40% and the other 60%. I didn't like this at all because I felt like I had to memorize everything he said and then a week after the exam I wouldn't remember anything. I didn't learn much from this class because of that. The lectures are interesting but his testing method is awful.
If you are truly passionate about psychology, this class will be beneficial and rewarding. Although the only graded components of the class are an essay format midterm exam and final exam, Sarver leads a thought-provoking class that covers lessons applicable to any field of work, as well as personal life. Would absolutely recommend.
His lectures are entertaining. Exams are strictly essay so you have to really know the material.
Dr. Sarver is a hilarious professor. He is definitely difficult but if you are actually interested in psychology his class is helpful. I have learned more in his class than any other since I've been at OU. You're only graded on a midterm and final essay so that makes it hard, but if you're willing to put in the time to study its def worth it!
Dr. Sarver is so knowledgeable in the psychology area. He is great at answering questions plus his lectures are extremely entertaining! I learned the most I've learned so far from his classes, and I'm a third year student in the psych department.
He is funny for the first couple weeks then you get bored of it and you wont actually learn anything from the essays. You just memorize them the week before and forget the week after.
He's a great person to listen to! His lectures are really funny and interesting. This was one of my favorite classes even though we only had two grades which was the midterm and the final. He doesn't use PowerPoint so I suggest listening very carefully to what he is saying because it will benefit you a lot.
I had Dr. Sarver for Child and Adolescent and loved him so much I took abnormal and clinical and counseling psychology with him. Yes there are 2 essay exams, but that actually requires you to understand material (which should be your goal anyway if you're in these courses). Book only used in clinical&counseling. Great guy, great lectures.
Dr. Sarver was hands down the best professor I have ever had. If you ever get the chance to listen to this brilliant man, do it.
Sarver has 30+ years of clinical experience practicing. I had him for clinical psych While I rarely attended his lectures as they became rants, I wrote anything pertaining to the topics on the exam, he seemed to make the class sound like a pass fail bi-modal grade distribution. When I got my test back, I received a B- he is a softy deep down.
I took all of Dr. Sarver's classes. I enjoyed the material and his ability to incorporate memorable and hilarious stories into lectures. I suggest taking his course if studying and attending class is your thing. If you don't care about the material, your grade, or school in general... then you won't do well. Study tip: detailed colorful outlines
Dr. Sarver has the reputation of being a very tough professor, which is true but in a good way. He bases your grade on only your midterm and final which is all essay BUT I learn so much from him and remember everything he says. His lectures are hilarious and interesting. If you are a Psych major and want to learn long-term, I highly recommend him!
Dr. Sarver is an amazing professor! I took his child and adolescent class on a whim and ending up loving his teaching still. My only complaint is that he doesn't teach more classes. He is a hilarious guy with tons of stories to help solidify concepts. If you want to take a psych class, I strongly recommend Dr. Sarver.
He's a really good professor with explaining the material. Only grades in the class are the midterm and final and they're essay exams so you HAVE TO STUDY EARLY.
Dr. Sarver is an amazing professor and person with so many years of experience. If you are a psychology major, I highly recommend taking one of his classes. Yes, there are only two grades for the whole semester and they're both essays, but the amount that you learn from studying is worth it. Also, he's the funniest professor I've ever had.
I am nearly done with my psych degree and had great professors who base classes on scientific evidence; I am probably more knowledgeable than previous reviewers. Pretty much everything Sarver taught (in my brief time before dropping) was scientifically inaccurate. Some wrong info would be harmful if believed by future clinical practitioners. AVOID.
I am now in a PhD program in human development and teaching classes in my area. Dr. Sarver's classes have been so helpful- I remember a lot of the information in his classes because (1)his lectures were entertaining and I enjoyed going to class, making the material easier to remember, (2) I had to study my ass of for his essay tests, and it stuck!
I feel like I have learned and retained information better than any other class I have ever taken. He will answer any question, and makes class interesting. I never had a hard time paying attention through the whole hour. Your only grades are midterm and final but as long as you study youre fine. He seems scary at the beginning but hes not.
I have taken every course Dr. Sarver has to offer because his courses are so good. He is hilarious and has the best stories to tell (in-person lectures). Make sure you take detailed notes from the lectures because he does not give out his notes, they're all from his head hahaha. He is my favorite professor.
Due to the pandemic, this class was entirely online. There was a discussion post due once a week following his pre-recorded lectures. The midterm instructions were unclear and he was not willing to give any extra credit or other opportunities to raise my grade following the midterm.
Theres 3 ways to get grades in his class 1 the midterm, 2 the final, and 3 the discussion post that are due each week. If you watch his lectures you will get a good grade in his class if you don't then I don't know what to tell you. I took this class spring of 2021 and thought I was going to hate it but it by far taught me more then my other class
The actual lectures themselves were really good, he's funny and very well versed in the world of psych because he is an actual practicing psychologist so he brings good stories. EXAMS ARE TERRIBLE. 7-14 pages at minimum and although he does give potential questions, its impossible to prepare for them all.
Dr. Sarver is a fantastic teacher! I learned SO much that I can use for my career. The only grades are weekly discussion boards, the midterm, and final. Definitely invest time because I spent a lot of time preparing for the midterm and final. Grades are fair and he provides feedback. Definitely recommend!
Really wanted to like him, the setup for his course was clear & concise. I'm always overbooked so I loved how clear & organised he seemed to be. But he would challenge me on things for no reason (not facts, he would take points off for opinions). Then he tried to accuse me of plagiarism for CITING literature other than his lecture. Unbelievable.
Dr. Sarver is a smart man with a lot of experience but is great at keeping up with current information in the psychology field. If you are a PSY major, this man is definitely great to talk to. The midterm and final are papers but the lectures give you most of the information, he also gives plenty of notice as to what the final will be about.
He is a tough professor but knows what he is talking about. Each week there is a lecture, a Q and A for the weekly discussion, and the discussion. There are two exams, the midterm and final. This class is not an easy A and takes effort, but I learned a lot and his lectures are very interesting.
Dr. Sarver is the most practically experienced professor I've ever had, the expectations of his class are VERY clear and you WILL succeed in the class if you attend/watch the Q+A sessions, watch the lectures and engage in the discussions. He wants his students to do well; those who do the work and follow the clear instructions will be just fine.
Overall his class was very informative. I loved his lecture and QA videos. Unfortunately, he does not work with you. The grade he gives you from the rubric will be adjusted and overridden. If you ask for clarification, he will point you back to the rubric and notes, which do not align with the grade given.
I took Sarver for a summer class. His class was very informational but took a lot of time. He is very communicative and understanding. He has everything laid out in the syllabus and the expectations are known. I would recommend.
I took two of his classes and loved him (abnormal & clinical psychology). He is a wealth of information, so I felt very lucky to have ended up in his classes. He is tech savvy and courses were laid out very well on Blackboard. Don't buy the book if not required. He is the book. Exam papers are tedious but the rest of the class makes up for it.
By far the worst professor I've had in my college career. TA grades everything and even when you reach out to Dr. Sarver directly to ask for clarification, he gives none other than to look at the feedback. I got a zero on a discussion board I actually submitted. Very little is graded so it's insanely hard to hold a decent grade. Avoid at all costs.
One of the best classes I have ever taken. Interesting and relatable lectures. Dr. Sarver knows his content and delivers it with mastery. Grading based on weekly discussion boards as well as two (midterm and final) papers. No testing. Topics for midterm and final are given ahead of time. 10/10 would take again.
Outstanding professor, a clear professional in his field of clinical psychology, and extremely knowledgeable on childhood and adolescent psychology. Very engaging and willing to spend time during his office hours. I could not recommend anyone stronger if your desire is a deep understanding of the material.
There are no tests just a discussion board each week graded out of 3 and two papers, midterm and final. It's his way or the highway for it all, all you need to do is only use the videos, Q&A videos for discussion boards, and lecture videos for the final, and you're guaranteed an A
Professor Sarver knows his stuff and makes the material engaging. Attend the Q&A sessions, watch the lectures, and use resources like unstuckstudy to nail the midterm and final. It's not an easy A, but the effort pays off with a solid grasp of the content.
Is a very hard grader, not understanding at all. I wouldn't recommend taking his class- though it's made up of discussions and exam his grading is beyond ridiculous even if you spend hours of work.
Lectures and notes often are only his opinion and leave very little room for outside thoughts. Lectures are often very unorganized as he jumps from topic to topic and back again. Discussion and exams are graded inconsistently, if you add any type of personal opinion or experience to discussion board will be docked points.
Does have high expectations, but is incredibly fair. Answers all questions promptly and effectively. Course material sticks like glue and you won't even realize it is happening. Book is a great choice and great read, but the lectures are the cherry on top. Great professor and great person. Wish every professor was a little bit like Sarver.
This has been the best professor that I have had so far during my college career. How you do in his class is solely dependent on how you perform. Interact with him during his weekly Q&A, use the information given during the Q&A in your discussion post, and you will do fine. I finished this class with a 99%. Taking more of his classes next semester.
Dr. Sarver was one of my favorite professors. He inspired me to pursue a masters program in clinical counseling. He knows his stuff and makes you want to learn more. The final required a lot of writing, but no test and you get the topics ahead of time which are covered in class. Highly recommend taking a course or two with him!
