GREAT Professor! He makes public speaking fun! Speeches he assigns aren't too bad and he doesn't assign too many of them. I highly recommend him!

Mr. Shaffer is a really good teacher. He teaches clearly. It is your choice to use the book, but i would recommend it cause it makes things easier. He is a very lively and funny teacher, not one of the boring ones that put you to sleep! i really enjoyed his class!

Knows his stuff. Uses real-world experience to make points. Fair grader and he really cares about helping us. Funny, too.

What an amazing guy Shaffer is. He's smart, witty and trys to make the classes fun overall. He's also a fair grader and if you do the work its hard to get lower than an A or B.

Professor Shaffer's class was awesome, & so was he! I took his Intro to COMM class over a Summer 5-week session & am taking him again for Mass COMM this Spring. He is sometimes a few minutes late for class but always ends it on time. Not a lot of h/w, had no quizzes, fair tests, & he is a fair grader. I highly recommend him for COMM classes.

Soooo funny!!! I only took 2 on campus classes, and I looked forward to his! Interesting material, and I don't think I ever tuned out from what he was saying because a joke always followed. TAKE HIM!

I love Shaffer! His class is always interesting and he always has something witty to say. He is a fair grader, tests not that hard. Not much homework only reading. Great class take him!

Shaffer is the best professor at OCC! He's great. Very helpful and his classes are very informative. He cracks jokes here and there and really relates what he teaches with actual personal stories. His tests are easy as long as you pay attention...He always gives tests with the idea that you've read and understood everything.

This professor is one of my absolute favorites. He's nice, funny and shows a lot of interest in the class. He manages to make every class exciting with a good amount of visual aid (which is nice for me because I am very visual learner.) He is also will to take time of of his schedule to help out students.

FAVORITE PROFESSOR EVER. If you didn't like him, or didn't pass his class you're stupid and have no sense of humor. There isn't an unreasonable amount of work and if you pay attention the tests aren't difficult. I've had him for 4 classes and am really excited to have him for a 5th time in the fall :)

Shaffer is the man!!! Took him for all COMM classes (except Public Speaking). He is an awesome professor/internship adviser and you will learn a lot. He is also hilarious!!

Shaffer is the man, nuff said. Seriously though, If you want a fun class, take his classes as much as possible. The ONLY downside to him is that he is tough to reach outside of class time. Other than that though, you will not be disappointed. On a side note, thanks for that scholarship recommendation letter Shaffer!

Easy interesting class. Mass comm was lots of discussions, a few short essay or question hw's, and a few quizzes. Don't even need to study b/c the answers are all common class. Nice guy, low stress, but the class really isn't that useful for careers. Take it if you need an elective that can be anything. Didn't buy book, don't use it at all.

Definitely the funniest/laid back professor ive ever had. Its an easy class but you still learn a lot so you're not wasting your time. Take him.

Definitely recommend. Very easy to obtain an A if you do the reading. On average, less than an hour of work per week. (But you might have to do a bit more to get an A.) I do not understand why he wasn't giving out 30 A's, but definitely a fun/enjoyable class. Lots of laughs. Highly recommend Shaffer. Make sure you remember his name! They like that.

Shaffer is a great professor and an awesome person. Really knows the material he teaches and frequently uses stories from his experiences to help better explain the lesson. Not the best at posting grades or responding to e-mails, but if you can catch him he'll always help you out. Would take his classes again!

Easy A if you pay attention to the material. As long as you do your job you will pass this class with no problems.

The best. He really loves the subjects he teaches and has real world experience so you learn alot. Just don't be late. He take missing class or coming late very serious, but he's so good you won't want to miss

I've taken this guy for three different classes and he is the only professor that I've had so far that actually knows what he's talking about. His funny and informational lectures will make the class flyby. Just be sure to show up to class on time and do all of the work, write down notes and you'll be all set. Defiantly recommend Prof. Shaffer!

The first time i took COM154 i didn't really get the grade i deserved because my teacher lost everything and was on the older older side. With that being said i had to re take COM154 and i was dreading it until the first week in i knew this guy was the PERFECT professor to have at ocean county college. Deff take him even if u don't have too! A1 guy

Professor Shaffer is funny and knows his stuff. If you are not a good writer be cautious. He is very specific for what he is looking for in your news stories. Make sure you are on time because if you are a couple minutes/ seconds late they eventually turn into absences. Good class but definitely not my favorite.

I definitely enjoyed him as a professor. He know what he's talking about for sure. Only used the book for one vocab assignment and the criteria for the outline so if you share it with someone you'll save $. Prove that you put effort into your speech and you should be good!

If you want to laugh, take his class. Probably the funniest and most sarcastic professor I've ever met. Can be a bit unclear on what is needed. In Public Speaking that may be fine, but other classes he teaches that may be difficult. Almost made me become a PR major, he was so inspiring. Also leads newspaper club. Good guy, show up on time for class

Amazing teacher! Had him for communications and he really made the semester fun. He says you need the book but not really. You never use it in class and if someone has it look over it for a half hour before the test and it will be okay. Not many tests and no homework. Great guy and really funny

I was really nervous about having to take public speaking, but Prof Shaffer is the best. You basically just have to follow the format of what he wants the speeches to be like, and youll be good. Hes also hilarious and super caring. The only thing is hes kinda strict about lates and absences. Other than that, hes awesome

One of the greatest professors you'll have. Shaffer is very experienced in Communications and offers a lot of real life insight and experience in his lectures. It's also a very easy class, though tests can be challenging, but doable. He's also very funny and sarcastic.

Shaff was great with us, we had a great class though! We all participated and got along great! We made jokes, and laughed. He is very reasonable when it comes to test study your guide and you will be fine. Show up take note pay attention and pass!

Having the chance to work with Professor Shaffer allows you the opportunity to build your resume in the paper. His class is fun and he is a funny guy.

Professor Shaffer does not give out much physical work besides critical viewings and class presentations. He loves having class discussions and finding out more about what's current in different fields of media. As long as you show up and are respectful, and participate, it should be an easy A!

Of all the classes I took at OCC this was definitely my favorite mainly because of the professor!

Great professor. Class was required, but would probably take even if it wasn't. Really made us better writers. He created a comfortable class (papers sometimes get critiqued out loud so that could be a bit hard, but we learn from each others mistakes and Shaffer does it in a fun but easygoing way). He will stay after and help as much as you need.

Professor Shaffer genuinely cared about giving every student their best possible chance to succeed. I was terrified of public speaking before this class, but I feel like I have gotten more out of this class than any other I have taken at OCC. I would advise everyone to give themselves at least one day to be able to prepare each speech.

Shaffer is a funny guy and a good professor at the same time. He has a lighthearted nature to his class with a lot of jokes. There is no homework and the entirety of your grade will come from exams. As long as you pay attention to the lectures, the class is a breeze. I would definitely recommend Professor Shaffer.

I am so glad Shaffer teaches most of the classes I need for my major because he is such a stand-up guy. He is hilarious and every class you will have with him is a great experience. Everyone is so social in the class and I feel I'm able to truly express myself. He is an expert in his field. All grades weigh the same so one test grade won't end you.

Professor Shaffer is a great professor. I am so thankful he was my teacher and has taught me much more then any other teacher I've had. You need to be attending class to pass and he won't like if you're late. He also gives you great feedback to improve your work!

I had the most incredible class I could've possibly asked for. We were like a little family. Shaffer was extremely funny and wasn't afraid to poke fun at us. Public speaking is scary for everyone but having him as a professor made it all that much easier to do. I really do miss this class every day, I made some of my closest friends in it.

Shaffer is an overall good professor, paying attention to the lectures is very important and attendance is mandatory. He gives enough time to complete each assignment. If you have a question for him, he was difficult to reach, he did not respond to my emails leaving me questioning.

He is very easy going and a fun professor as long as you are on his good side. He will try to get to you but, it is light-hearted in the end, mostly. Bring a notebook rather than a laptop to take notes.

An absolute chad of a teacher. Very funny, often sarcastic and shooting jabs at students, but as long as you're not a bad person with bad views you likely wont be the subject of ridicule. Overall very caring and funny, one of the best professors on OCC. I took him twice and if I weren't graduating I'd take him again.
