Goes very fast - taught above Algebra level - wanted to talk about Calc TOO MUCH
This man enjoys math a little to much for my likeing
he's a good teacher and really explains everything well
I hate this guy. He is a mister know it all. I would not take him ever again.
The only thing longer than his 1 to 100 all assignments is each minute of class
Boring... of course it's hard to get into math in the morning. Almost always a few minutes late. He assigns a lot of homework but tells you which nights he'll collect.
Selectively informs us of critical information, seems to think he's too good to teach a 100 level course.
If you can keep on task, you will do fine.
a tough teacher. If you can help it any at all- Don't take him! You always have homework almost every night, and he goes really fast and well.....is boring and thinks he is god :)
I thought he was a really good teacher. You can always go to him and he is willing to help. I ended up dropping his class because I fell behind, but keep up and you'll be fine. Compared to the other math teachers, he's great. Definately no Mr. Hainline!
He is a good teacher. He gives a lot of examples and is willing to help you one on one if you need it. He can be a little boring but overall he is not that bad.
I thought he was a great teacher. He always gave extra credit, always tried to help you out. Easy grade if you turn in the homework.
He may seem like a jerk at first but he lightens up big time. He explains everything a LOT. He will help you with anything you don't understand. He only collects a few homework assignments and tells you which problems he wants done.
Took him in an intercession class, granted the class was 3 hours a day and a week long, but he taught very fast and didn't have time for questions. Needless to say he lowered the grading scale by 12 points and I still failed. Good luck everyone
Great Teacher. Teaches by example instead of wasting the whole hour on theorems. Very clear. Good about giving partial credit if you got part of a problem right. Best math instructor that I ever had. Not a PhD so only teaches 100 level classes.
teaches really fast, no time for your questions, seems kind bothered that you would even ask a question, and if you ask to many times or ask one he doesnt like he will make fun of you. doesnt come to class prepared, never knows what he taught last. RUN
This instructor is not too bad if you thought advance high school math was very easy. Don't get me wrong, I made A's in high school advance math. But unless you live, breathe, eat, and smoke math, I would suggest another instructor.
I had to drop this class. He is a teacher who shows examples and doesn't expalin anything about what he is doing. If you have this teacher I would suggest that you drop his class immediately.
He will not baby you through the course. He teaches only freshman level courses and since most freshman are use to be babied in high school they won't like his style. I think he is one the best teachers I have had. He gives a lot of examples.
This teacher is not helpful at all... DROP DROP DROP is what I got to do now!!
It helps if you come to class. Most people who don't like him thinks they should get an "A" since they made an "A" in math in high school. This is not high school.
His ability to teach is nothing less than outstanding! This class is challenging, but you will learn a lot. Because he taught so excellently, calculus now is a piece of cake! Be prepared to work! If you are a lazy student, don't bother.
Ok, so he gives you tons of extra credit, but im not sure how that helps when he tries to re-teach things we already know in another way. he is a nice guy....tries to help out.... but seriously, if we can do it and get the right answer.... dont screw that up.
I've heard a lot of complaints about hime, but you wouldn't get any from me. Show up, do the work, and you should be fine. He showes examples and answers questions. He offers enough extra-credit to the point that the only reason you should fail is simply because you haven't made an effort.

I put a lot of effort into the class and still ended up with a grade i didnt want. Im bad at math already, but he didnt help that much by showing shortcuts that didnt make sense and explaining math problems that weren't in our cirriculum. If you want an A,B dont take this class, C or D give it try.
ok..not helpful at all! test are ridiculous as well! the way he grades homework is very unfair. its worth 10 points and there can be 30 problems. if you miss one thats already a 9 out of 10. yeah doesnt make sense as all!
Obviously the last person has no clue on his homework. He gives about 15-20 problems max and most of the time they are odd so we can check them. His tests are tough but fair. He at least gives us input on the number of questions we want.
super easy. cool guy. let's you do pretty much whatever you want.
Stafford is a good teacher. I can't complain too much. If it helps... if you take his class, then you will do great in the following class. I got a C in his Precalc. and now I have A in calc. His toughness but also fairness helped me a lot in calc. He's a great TEACHer he will at least TEACH you.
I thought Stafford did a great job presenting the material in a clear, understandable manner. If you have questions about homework problems you can ask in class and he'll help you. Tests are challenging, but if you know the information, you'll be fine.
The material is challenging. You MUST learn the basics at the beginning of the course if you want to do well later on. Tests are hard but fair, based on the homework problems, gives partial credit. He will help you with the material outside of class. Keep up with the homework and you'll be fine.
Not a very good teacher, very hard class
Worst teacher in the entire department next to Shelby Kilmer.
Gary moves at a slow enough pace so that anyone can understand what he is teaching.
He does go over a lot in class, and he encourages seeing him outside of class for help, but he tests on the most difficult material in the sections. Also, I think he takes too much pride in knowing that he's smarter than we are... It's kind of obnoxious.
Lectures are fine, but the test are extremely hard. He is one of those teachers who puts all the little tricks in the problems. If he decides to give you a review guide, he doesn't give you an answer sheet, so you don't even know if you are on the right track or not. The tests are so hard, and besides the test all you have for points is homework.
I love Gary. He explaiins everything very well and does many examples and gives more than enough time to get them done. His tests are hard, but he really does encourage you to go spend time with him where he will explain everything to you again. I think he is a great math teacher
He explains things well and will help you if you need it. You get a lot of points for the homework and there are also a lot of extra credit assignments. The tests are difficult and he dosn't give you any of the answers for the study guide so you can't tell if you are on track or not.
Gary is an ok guy. Sometimes I felt more like he tried to show the class that he knew how to do the math rather than show us how to do it. He explains things well and he gives study guides to the tests (and the final), but his tests are very difficult. Gary is much more helpful if you go to him for help after class or during office hours.
he isnt a really good teacher. hes a really nice guy, but doesnt really explain himself well at all during class. if you do end up with him, ask for help during his office hours.
gary is horrible!!! i went to every class and failed...he gives you a****load of homework everynight..and his tests are impossible noone gets higher than 80
Terrible class. I took calculus and trig in high school and did better in there than I did in his class! Likes to show off his math skills, but does not clarify anything. Tests are ridiculous and forget being able to miss a day if you are ill.
Great teacher
bad teacher. likes to show off math skills and says he likes to "challenge the class" uhhh my highest test grade was a 72% and i took trig in high school...also doesnt curve tests.
Great teacher. Goes over everything in detail. Always willing to give extra help. Go to class every day and study, its a no brainer!!! He's a little dorky, but what math/science instructor isn't?
When I was in Gary's class I hated him... not because he was a bad teacher, but because he was my math teacher. He does a pretty nice job of explaining things, but the class is HARD! The tests are difficult, but fair. He does show off way too much. The biggest complaint I have about Gary is that he speaks with improper English all the time!
Gary sounds like Bill Clinton. I would have received an A in his class but I couldn't stop laughing at his stupid glasses and face. He wears stupid jeans and flannel shirts. He will help but you must ask.
Gary explained everything well and I HATE math! He gives you a week for every homework assignment, has review days before a test, and has curved all of our tests so far. I would recommend him to math-haters!
If you have a lot of background in trig then this class is probably going to be ok. I had trig in highschool and I still struggled. He is very good about giving definitions and teaching why we have certain formulas but is not clear on teaching you how to do them. He gives a lot of homework and he does collect it.
He doesn't really care to know his students and a lot of things he doesn't teach very well. It gets better toward the end of semester but at the beginning some of his explanations for things are, well...I can't really teach this, so you just have to learn it. Boring...hated this class. He's rude.
Gary is a bit of a know it all. Attendance for this class depends on how well you can teach yourself. I stopped going and just did the homework and it was easy and I found I didn't need him. His tests are easy.
I thought the class was very easy. I did some harder stuff in high school. But the teacher gets kinda boring, not to bad though. He likes to write the board with the tiniest handwriting and in the color that you can not see at all! Just do all your homework, review for tests and you will be in a good shape!
he is a fantastic teacher. i would definetly reccommend him to anyone
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!He is a horrible teacher!I studied w/ a math tutor 4 nights a week for2+ hours at a time and went to every class and was still going to fail.I had to w/draw to avoid an F.He was nice enough to give me a N. He is the most arrogant person, and proud of it.His tests are impossible and he never gives enough time to finish.
I have no idea what these people are talking about, I loved Gary!! He was super helpful and has a great homework policy. lots of extra credit oppurtunities too which helps. Tests are a little difficult, but if you study and get help when needed you will be fine. TAKE GARY HE IS THE BEST!!!
It's not so much that he isn't a good teacher, but that he has a poor attitude about teaching. It's clear he loves math, and enjoys that aspect of his job but he can be a little condescending if you have questions he deems "stupid". If you work hard, read the book and study you can do well in the class, just ignore his constant politcal whining.
This man is an arrogant jerk. He told me if i ever showed up to his class sick again to take a test, he would just throw it in the trash. He told me "don't ever show up to my class sick again". Not to mention he's extremely condescending and smug. Gary Stafford thinks way to highly of himself!
Absolutely loved the way he taught. He used analogies which helps a lot. He goes at a nice speed, not too fast and not too slow. I don't remember having an attendance policy. His assignment are always due one week after that class period and you ask question the next class period.
I cannot stand this guy! I've never had a problem with math before but he would count off points over NOTHING. It's very obvious that he plays favorites and if you have any questions whatsoever, he makes you feel very stupid. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
I love his homework policy and the fact he doesn't treat us like we are in grade school.
If you do not have to take this teacher, then DON'T. He is not very helpful, and he gives a lot of homework, and it's only worth 10 points, and when he grades it he will take off points for the stupidest things. His Tests are extremely hard, and since there are only 20 questions on them it's really hard to make a good grade.
I'm not sure why everyone seems to dislike Gary. I hate math and he actually keeps me interested. I'm taking him for Trig and most of the other reviews are for College Algebra, so maybe he's just better at teaching Trig. His homework policy is great and the tests aren't horrible if you actually study, which makes sense since this is college...
Gary is mostly a nice guy, however his way of teaching and class is very hard. He does not even read out of the book, he just uses the questions in the book, so you really can't miss a class and read the chapter because the next day when you come to class and he's working the examples you have no idea whats going on. Try to find a different teacher
I used to love math but Gary ruined it for me. I thought he was very rude to most students and didn't teach but talked down to us and expected us to learn how to do something by just saying it and not showing it. If you can take someone else I would recommend it nut he isn't the worst teacher ever.
Overall he was a very good teacher. You had to study and maybe even get some tutoring on your own but afterall this is college. He's a nice guy with a sarcastic sense of humor and it can sometimes be hard to tell when he's joking. I would reccomend him as a teacher but don't expect it to be easy.
Gary is not a very good teacher in my opinion. He talks down to the class and makes students feel like they are incapable of succeeding in the class. There is no encouragement given to the students whatsoever. The class is pretty difficult, and Gary grades hard. His homework system doesn't make very much sense, and he is very picky about it.
Gary was absolutely the best math teacher I have ever had! He was always willing to help when I needed it, and he made complicated problems easy as pie. Tests are tricky if you're not prepared. He throws a lot of trick questions in his quizzes and tests, but you'll be fine if you study a little.
He has a very unique teaching style. Attendance is mandatory and I recommend taking him in the fall because its easier than the spring one. Do the practice tests. He likes to throw the tricky ones off the study guides on the test. Make sure you are doing your homework and not just looking at the back and you will be fine
Easily the worst teacher i have ever had. He expects you to learn his way or get left behind, Wasn't willing to answer questions in class and if he somehow does he is extremely condescending about it. If i had to choose between taking him or waiting to take the class just WAIT!
Very rude, not very helpful unless if you go to his office or set time out to ask help from him otherwise
I had him for Calc and I thought it would be really hard since I went straight from College Algebra to this class but he is really easy to understand and he helps with problems you don't understand. Tests aren't that bad if you study. He's a pretty nice guy.
Gary isn't a bad teacher. I took him for Calc. He gives you a long time to do the homework because he knows what it's like to actually work in college. He's very understanding. Helps in office hours and knows when you're REALLY trying. He gave me a B basically because of all the effort I put into the course. TAKE GARY!
Gary was horrible. I, along with numerous other students, would ask questions and all he would do is make us feel like idiots. He never helps and when you talk to him, he rolls his eyes like you are wasting his time. He then told me that I would fail the class no matter how hard I tried.
I would NOT recommend this professor at all! His motto was "my way or the highway"! Any previous knowledge you have is basically useless because he will make you learn the material his way and if you don't solve the problems using his methods, it won't count. Even if you have methods of solving problems that work better for you!
Grades without justification, not very helpful to students. I had to come to class everyday and do every homework assignment to barely get an A.
He is a good teacher. He won't coddle you, but you should not expect that in college. He is blunt. You need to go to class and do the homework. Always available to help and held review sessions when we needed help as well. He was very nice anytime I asked a question and was able to explain why you do something instead of just telling me what to do.
Gary Stafford is a very hard teacher. He know the material very well and has taught for a long time. The homework assignments are long and he does not provide feedback. Test are extremely hard! He finds the hardest problems in the section and changes them. You must show up to class to see how he does the problems.
Would not recommend at all. does not explain anything that well and just leaves you to work it out by yourself, especially hard when it comes to the homework assignments. Current student of his class
I took this class in high school and got an 89%. Re-taking it in Gary's class I can barely keep a C and the students who sit around me (who also took Pre-Calc) have the same grades. Homework is relatively easy but the tests are very difficult and long so many students run out of time. His motto is "figure it out on you own"
This professor teaches math on a fundamental level. He teaches the 'why' of how things work. It's very useful for anyone planning to take advanced math classes but seemed to annoy the gen ed kids. If you have a thin skin or require a lot of help, be wary. He's very sassy and doesn't deal will with questions. Have to be bold enough to demand help.
He assigns homework but then doesn't teach you what will be on the homework. ALOT of self learning! Also, rambles about stories that don't matter and don't apply to the concept of the problems
Overall /10. Gives two class periods for each HW assignment and goes over HW questions. Tests are tough, not much time to do them so you have to adapt to working faster BUT he gives practice tests/study guides. He also holds study sessions and is there for help if you need it. Trig by nature is hard, big step up from college algebra.
Do not take his class online!!!! His lecture videos are short, vague, and do not cover all of the details you need to know in order to pass his tests. Your assignments are worth very few points, and his hard exams account for a large part of your final grade. Not the kind of professor who puts much effort into teaching.
Math class? More like publically funded verbal abuse. I learned to stop asking questions after week 1 and my grade suffered because of it. The class itself isn't too hard, it's the fact that he's more concerned with belittling you than giving you a deeper understanding of the concepts.
Honestly one of the least helpful professors I've ever had. He doesn't seem to care about helping his students learn and always has a rude remark if you ask a question in class. I took college algebra with him and he was alright, but trig was absolutely awful. I would not take his class if you have any other option.
His tests are difficult. He will put stuff on the homework that he hasn't taught in class. Don't ask questions in class if your not prepared for him to publicly humiliate you in front of your peers. His explanation of word problems, is that they're just "common sense."
He expects you to do the work, and keep up with the notes (as does any good teacher), and in his introduction emails he highly encourages people to ask him for help if they don't understand. However, if he thinks it's a stupid question or thinks it is answered in a video (whether you understand it or not) he won't answer AT ALL.
Told me it wasn't my fault if he lost my quiz that I was turning in early due to missing the next class for being out of town.
Extremely hard class, I took Precalc in High School expecting to do better here but that was not the case. It is HIS way or the HIGHWAY. If I learned it one way in high school that didn't matter because he wanted me to do it his way, even if my way was easier to understand. VERY scatterbrained lectures, and did not make sense.
He told students that he doesnt like teaching anymore and you can tell! He doesnt teach the first section of the class before the first exam because he expects you to know it already! He only does easy examples on the board but the homework and test are much harder!! he doesnt take this class seriously because he has taken harder math classes!!
Grade A butthole. He always assigns homework that is never close to what's on the test. Ask a question in class? NO. He'll literally belittle you because he thinks your question is stupid. He's not very approachable and will make you feel stupid when you're trying to ask for help. 10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Stafford wasn't the most friendly or approachable person but I thought his lectures were easy enough to understand. The tests are tough and you must work for the grade but the class is passable.
I would strongly recommend taking this class at OTC. This guy seems to enjoy giving problems that he doesn't fully explain. His lecture videos he just does exactly what the book says, so it really isn't helpful. If you struggle with math DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I highly recommend taking this at OTC.
Beware of the first exam. The exams are MUCH harder than the homework. There is little time to complete them. You can't sit there and think about the problem. You've just got to solve it. Fast. Many people expected the 1st exam to be like the hw. Use the study guide. Practice till it becomes second nature or fail. Also, he doesn't like to give As.
He gives lots of examples in class. The online homework and quiz due dates can be a little unclear as the semester goes on. Nightly homework and quizzes, three/four tests. Lots of chances to have quizzes dropped or grade boosted. However, he can come off as a little degrading or having a chip on his shoulder, which was a little frustrating.
Whatever you do, do not take his class online. The only examples given are out of the textbook, and that is literally it. That is all you will ever have to reference. It was unbelievably frustrating to spend this much money to be read to. I had to teach myself algebra from outside sources, did not do well and now have to retake this course.
There is such a thing as a professor that is tough but fair, designed to aid his students in their careers, but this is not one. Surely his ego convinces himself that he is, but he isn't. If you ask questions prepare to be humiliated. Apparently he is sick of teaching, so can MSU do everyone a favor and please relieve him of his duties? Go to OTC.
Don't let him discourage you. I failed his class and had to retake but have now passes calc 1 and 2 easily. Math isn't hard it only matters who you take. That being said Gary was easily the worst professor I have ever had. If I can fail basic math course and breeze through high level courses you know there is something wrong.
Not sure what some students are talking about. Yeah, he is tough, but if you care about learning, he will help you get there. Got a "B" was close to an "A". But if you want an easy "A", maybe Gary is not for you. If you want someone who is willing and able to help you grasp the concepts, then Gary is your guy. However, slackers need not apply
Great Teacher and will help you if you need it and seek him out.
I don't know about showing up to class, but please don't take this online. I took the highest level math my high school offered and always got As, but was looking for something easy in college, and figured I'd be able to do it online. Somehow this guy made it so stinking difficult. Was also extremely rude in his emails and treated me like I'm dumb.
138 is tough online but he is accessible to help. Quizzes are more beneficial than homework... Homework is through MML but quizzes are on paper which I do better on.
He is an alright professor. Was doing good until I missed a class period. If you do not go to class then you will get lost very easily. His style of teaching is different than others, but he is willing to explain thoroughly to questions asked. He tries to be funny, but just ends up either embarrassing himself or someone else. Hands out study guides
Worst professor I have ever had. Scatterbrained lectures, always talks about how good he is and was at math in school. Makes tests way harder than they need to be. Tests do not resemble homework or in class examples. Makes you feel dumb when asking a question. Would never recommend anyone to take him.
This is a hard class don't be fooled, and Gary isn't going to dumb it down that much. However, if you put in the time, work, effort, (and happen to be good at math) the class isn't too bad. Just be prepared for hard test, concepts, and homework.
- tests are 65% of your grade, final is 25% - tons of homework on My Math Lab - do NOT buy the textbook! - if you are a slow test taker, he is not for you!!!! He thinks because he can finish the test in 15 minutes, you can do it in 20. Tests were difficult. - 1 extra credit opportunity but it was extremely time consuming and not worth it
Once you notice that he looks like Mr. Garrison from South Park, you can't unsee it.
Heres the thing about Gary, he would show up to class about 20 minutes late then proceed to go over any questions we had about our homework. Following that he would briefly go through 1 or 2 problems we could expect on the test. Save yourself the misery.
Was soooo rude. Dont take online!!!! Trashed my GPA.
Brings a whole new definition to the word pretentious... Others are not exaggerating his rudeness and lack of professionalism.
My AP calc class was easier than this class.
There's no way to sugar coat it or justify it in my mind: This class was HARD and Gary is not very nice. His favorite trick to pull is putting material on the tests that we did not go over in class. AVOID!
You teach yourself math, he gets off topic about his highschool days. Don't take
I will never be able to say "Gary" in a kind way again. I realized that my time management wouldn't suffice for the class, so I decided to drop. I told Gary this, and he proceeded to send a very passive-aggressive email back. He makes you print all of your own quizzes and he teaches like a total idiot. Don't take this guy unless you love math.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. I REPEAT DO NOT DO IT.
He does not know how to teach and spends most of his lectures rambling on about things that have nothing to do with math. He is rude, inconsiderate, and no source of help at all! DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. It is not worth your GPA. And please take these reviews seriously because they are not lying to you! You've been warned.
I would not recommend taking this teacher for this class. During this pandemic he has been nothing but difficult and unfair. He is rude and makes it seems like youre dumb.
He refuses to take any kind of sick note, I have health problems so I ended up having to drop. No one told me you won't need a pre-calculus class if you have a high enough ACT/SAT score on the math section. I ended up dropping his pre-calc and just taking calculus, got an A.
Do not take this class!!! He is not helpful what so ever! I took his online class and he makes us print off all our quizzes so we can do them with paper and pencil. We have to make them into a PDF to turn them in VIA EMAIL. I've gotten multiple zeros because he doesn't check his email thoroughly and is not open to helping his students succeed.
Professor Stafford is one of the worst professors I have ever had! He be littles you in class by saying how easy his class is because HE can do it (duh, he should be able to do it he teaching it). 3 exams and final, homework due every class period (homework is done through book, so book is a MUST), and there are paper quizzes due as well.
Professor ended up removing quiz points because he got fed up that some students were having issues scanning and uploading them. Grade was based on like 93% of 4 exams. I had to drop because of his unfair grading over simple things. I understood almost all the material but he was too picky of a grader. Didn't care at all about student's hard work.
Don't risk your GPA for this class. I would study for hours for exams and still get D's somehow. I had to teach myself everything in this class. I heavily relied on YouTube for assistance. His lectures consisted of him reading out of the textbook. He made me feel stupid for asking questions and his replies to emails were unprofessional and rude.
Gary is easily the worst professor Ive ever had at Mo State. He offers no help and will make you feel stupid for asking any type of question. His lectures are incredibly unorganized and you have to teach yourself the material. Hes very old fashioned and all around he gives off bad vibes. Had to drop the class for the sake of my mental health.
Quite possibly the worst professor I have ever had. He cares more about the format in which you turn things in than he does how you are doing in the class. He offers no help and criticizes you for asking questions. I have studied for every exam for hours and still managed to fail all of them. He really does not care about student success at all.
In my 3 other math classes Ive taken in college, Ive gotten an A, B+, and a B. I failed this class the first time, and I think he gave me a pity C when I tried retaking it just to move me along. I thought the problem was me until I finished computational calculus with a B+. He was hands down the most rude professor Ive ever had to endure.
The worst teacher I have had the displeasure of being with my entire school career. Ridiculous amounts of work, extremely hard grader, and mentions new concepts not covered in class on exams. He is rude and inconsiderate of his students. First class I have ever had below a B. Terrible. The classic hard professor from any movie or t.v show.
This professor is awful. He does not care about his students passing at all. If you e-mail him about anything he will belittle you and make you feel inadequate. DO NOT take any classes from him, save yourself the stress.
I don't recommend taking this professor. The class isn't very hard, but the teacher has a very odd way of teaching and it feels like he just expects you to know what to do. He seems nice, but he belittles you and is always saying stuff like "my 8th grade kid can do this, so it's not that hard." He does the bare minimum while teaching in class.
This class is a waste of my time. He doesn't really even teach in class. All he does is stand at the front of class rambling, and half the time it isn't even over the material in class (like I have no interest in hearing about what position you played in football). Tough grader and makes you feel stupid if you don't know whats going on. AVOID!!!!!!
waste. of. my. time. Literally get a headache every time I leave this class because he talks about nonsense and doesn't teach.
I took MTH 139 online with Gary. You have 2-3 homework assignments every week & 2-3 quizzes each week. There are 3 exams total and a final. He curves every exam by at least a letter grade, which really helps. He drops you lowest 5 quizzes & homework assignments. If you simply watch the lectures and study for the exams you will pass.
He talks in a very condescending and does extremely little to help prepare for the exams/final. He is very vague on how to best prepare for the final which is cummulative. Our study group which was probably a good amount of the class felt unprepared and he did less than the bare minimum to help us review and understand material DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
Mr Stafford is not a easy teacher. He will make you work for your grade in his class. Yet I learned a ton in his class. I would not recommend him for the faint hearted.
This class is doable if you do the work and have a strong background in mathematics. He DOESN'T teach you anything, so you have to read the textbook and work all the problems if you want to do well. All of the material for the 3 tests comes from the quizzes, so if you study them you should do fine. The final is worth 25% so study the 3 tests!!
Called me "pretty and dumb like the rest of the girls at this school" and that I "shouldn't have graduated high school" because I asked if we were going to get 4 quizzes every day for the whole semester. The only thing he teaches you is how fast and easy it is for him to hurt your feelings. he also goes through a unit a minute. literally
Very rude and terrible teacher who doesnt care about students
Gary likes to go through and explain where EVERYTHING comes from. From the Pythagorean theorem to stuff like the half-angle formulas. This was amazing for someone pursuing a BSEd in Mathematics, but maybe not for someone just trying to get their degree requirements done. I have gained a higher degree of understanding with math by taking him.
He is not the professor the reviews make him out to be. Just focus, don't whine about his class, and you WILL be fine. He is not a tough grader and I learned almost everything I know during his lectures with very little outside help. If you take university seriously, you will be fine.
I didn't even have him for math and i can still see why his rating is so low. He makes rude comments towards students and I've had to talk to him on three separate occasions about taking points off of correct answers. If you take this class buy a folder because he gives everything out on paper even though there are online copies. Avoid him.
Naturally, GEP 101 is an extremely easy course by itself. Mr. Stafford gets a bad rap though, he is not as bad as people make him out to be. He is definitely a teacher in the school of hard knocks and doesn't tolerate late work and excuses very much, but he is understanding. He's an accessible professor and he will help you if you're struggling.
I recommend not taking the class with this professor. Take it from another professor. Especially if you are not good in Math he will make your class even harder than it is. He is unavailable and grumpy!
I don't recommend this professor if you simply want to have a fun experience with actually learning math! Not only is he very rude if you aren't doing well in class, but he grades poorly and just marks up everything but refuses to explain and articulate what was done wrong. Not only that there's a lot of homework and his grading is imbalanced!
Professor Stafford has a unique teaching style that can be challenging but rewarding if you put in the effort. The class is tough, but using resources like the textbook and Unstuck ai can really help. Overall, be prepared to work hard in this class.
probably the worst class I have taken here. 6 exams and so so so so much homework. If this is the only class you are taking for the semester you may have a chance but if not, your other classes will need to be sacrificed in order to get through all the homework and study for the exams. Would not reccomend
I'm not sure how he is in the mathmatics area, but for my GEP course he was awesome. We had quizzes for every class that were very easy and he is lenient when it comes to grading.
There were 2 assignments per week. The homeworks themselves were not that useful at times but he posted these practice quizzes online for each unit in the chapter were very similar to test questions. He had 6 tests and you could drop your lowest which was also helpful. His lectures were pretty straightforward and he curved around half the tests.
So test heavy it's hard to recover from a fail. Lots of homework, 10 plus hour a week. Hard to get a hold of and ask questions.
He's very condescending and rude. Don't expect any test reminders. If you fail a test, it's almost impossible to come back from.
He is so bad, don't take him.
I would strongly advise against taking this instructor. I did well on the homework and practice quizzes, but the tests were formatted very differently, making them confusing. The final included problems we never practiced or had to solve in reverse, like finding the factored form from a graph. I felt unprepared and discouraged in this class.
One of the worst I've ever taken, by far. He doesn't utilize brightspace, and makes you buy pearson MyMathLab (about 80$). Homework doesn't reflect the actual learning objectives but are almost always 30-60 questions long. Tests are all open work, no multiple choice and are the majority of your grade. SOS if you need it, STUDY QUIZES!
