Dr. Sterling is a good teacher and the class was at least somewhat interesting. He uses alot of powerpoint slide in his teaching. He has all the information you'll need thru the semester on his website. He drops a test score and has a nice curve to his grading. I didn't need to even drop a test score because the class was easy. Take this class!
Easy Teacher.
Easygoing, well organized prof. Some of the questions on the tests can be tricky, but if you know the material, you'll catch it right away. Got an A in the class and didn't even read the book -- his lectures are so organized and the additional videos covered all the material. He's very good about reviewing before tests as well. Awesome teacher!
He needs to get rid of that mac homepage and use Toroweb! Not too helpful when I had trouble with that site. Otherwise, he was a very fair grader and inspired me to work. Very tricky test questions, but he dropped my lowest score and I landed an A. PRINT ALL SLIDES AT BEGINNING OF SEMESTER - you'll only regret not doing it later on.
To pass this class go take good notes study them and take 4 tests. He drops one test score. Test are a little tricky but if you know your stuff you will do fine.
Sterling knows his stuff. Read the book & study the PP slides cuz they will be on the test. 4 MC & TF test are givem & he drops one. 4-5 quizes & some are open notes quizes. He gives no hw so it's all good but do read or else U will fail.
I think the person under my rating was either really smart or really interested in the class because i struggled. I was not interested in the class what so ever and I studied hard for all the tests. I managed to pull off a "B" but i would have much rather taken Love. I heard his class was easy. IF YOUR NOT INTERESTED IN SMT TAKE PROFESSOR LOVE!!!
I hated this class. He was so boring and really rude to students who asked questions and tried to get involved. His tests were kind of hard because he requires so much information. MUST READ. No way to pass w/o. Posts helpful slides online, but not enough..read books!
This teachers is easy you dont need to buy the book all you need is his powerpoint notes and you get a A. His test are meant to trick you he puts more than one right answer on each question so be careful.
Very strait forward & clear. The exams are multiple choice & if you use your brain and actually study, the exams aren't tricky at all. You're only tricked if you didn't study. Even if you don't like science and technology, the subject matter is presented so as it relates to the real world, which makes it easier to understand. Great professor.
Professor provides students with powerpoint slides which are notes of the chapters of the book. The slides really help a lot. Without them, trying to remember ALL of the info in the book would be a nightmare! If you study, you will get a good grade.
Easy class if you study for tests and stay and watch the videos. Tests are based off powerpoints which you can download and the movies shown in class once a week(can also find on youtube). No projects or presentations, Just tests. Drops one test except the final. I did not read the book at all and got an A.
Half of his damn class fails each semester, i should have listend to the people who said dont take his class. I am currently enrolled and a senoir and i will have to retake this class in summer if its offered!!!!!!!!!!!!
An easy straight forward class, no book needed (including yellow book), just study power point lectures then you will be fine
I'm really suprise at how many people did bad on the tests. Tests are straight off from the powerpoint and the assign reading when we have them, maybe 2x. There is a study guide with all the question too. He even drop the worst test out of 3 for you. You can miss 4 class, if you dont then it become extra credit. You fail, it's your fault.
Professor Sterling tries his best to make the class interesting, he is very knowledgeable on the subject. In order to succeed in his class you MUST do the readings as well as attend each class, even when you watch a video. Every week one day is lecture and one day is video, which makes it fun. Don't slack off and do the readings prior to lecture
Awesome teacher! He really knows his subjects! I would retake the class, but I got an A. Just pay attention to his lectures and you will do fine. Good Luck!
Before each exam he gives you a list of important names and terms from the lecture. He highlights the ones that will be on the exam. If you study this you will ace every exam. He shows videos that are outdated, but very interesting.
Yes it's an easy class, but very boring. I would'nt recommend students' to take this instructor. Show's no compassion, and has no office hr's. Dr. Love I hear is an awesome teacher.
Drops the lowest of your 3 midterm exams. Your grade consists of 2 midterms,a final, and attendance. Before each exam he gave a study guide which has similar questions that will be on the exams. He also curves the exams. Class was somewhat easy I got an A in the class
Take this online instead! Very easy class, you should get an A. He gives sample questions, most of which are on the exams. The first class meeting each week is a video, dont bother going just watch them on youtube. CSUDH should get rid of this course. It is completely unnecessary and should be fulfilled with GE transfer science courses.
I felt this class hard, but ended up with a good grade. He shows interesting videos. Because of this class, I now look at technology from other perspectives. His exams are pretty tough, so do the readings, take notes from them and download and study the power points. He does provide study guides, but you have to fill in the answers.
TAKE HIM!! IM SO GLAD I DID =) EASY TESTS (IF U STUDY THE STUDY GUIDE). DROPS LOWEST TEST SCORE. SUPER NICE!
Class was okay. 3 test, drops lowest of the three and a final. final not cumulative. do the study guide and you'll do fine. although i recommend reading and going to class because not all the test are like the study guide. also gives you points for attendance. those are like extra credit points. overall good professor.
Super easy class because class expectations and learning outcomes were laid out from the start. Power point lectures, videos, and study guides. Prof. Sterling was a blessing. 3 midterms, drop lowest. Non cumulative Final. Easy quizzes. :)
EASY!!! study guides r 90% of the exam. quizzes are right off power points, lectures and videos links can be found on blackboard. very interesting subject :)
Although he did not mention it, make sure you use his study guide! You will pass with an A if you use the study guide provided by the instructor. Recommend this class. Book is optional.
My only criticism is the professor has not been helpful when I or another student ask questions.
Great class, gives you study guides and 90% of them are in the test. Book is optional, you only need the power points.
Really easy class. He is not too open to questions from students, and does a have a small attitude problem. I never had an issue but I've seen other students. His class is easy to pass, but I wish there was a little more hands on instead of just memorizing power points.
The way to go for smt 310 for sure
This class was more interesting because it was more the history of science than science itself. Easy class, find the study guide questions in the power points as you go through them. simple multiple choice exams. watch a video for every chapter. good class.
Great! & easy! No book needed! He puts lectures up. Must attend bc he has daily clicker questions. Overall, you just need to listen in class & go over the ppts & his study guide before the exam. And he's nice too. Just 3 exams and simple online quizzes the night before. I wish other classes were like this :') TAKE IT.
Where to start he is a nice person. However, he is not one to give and take. This class was extremely boring. The subject was dreadful, and his tone of voice didn't help to lighten up the mood at all. You have to listen and take notes, the book doesn't help. Don't recommend taking him.
Attendance is mandatory unless you can find someone to do your clicker questions for you. Book isn't needed. ALL exam questions come from his slideshows and exam review questions. He's American so no thick accent. I got an A! He gets suspicious if he thinks you're cheating during exams. Just use quizlet.
Professor is straight forward. Tells you what is expected, no surprises. Don't need book, follow all power-points and practice exams. He does clicker questions daily, that's how he takes attendance. 3 exams and will drop your worst one. As long as you follow along, easy A.
This professor is easy. All lectures, study guides, and quizzes are online. You just use a clicker for the exams. The highest two exam scores, quizzes, and attendance are used for your grade. He is a great professor.
You are given 3 exams, but only 2 count. Print the powerpoints and write good note. Starting on the first day print the exam trial questions on the blackboard take them to class and answer them while he's lecturing. Otherwise it will be hard to answer even if you get the book. Must rent or buy the clicker the book is not needed. quizelt
Go to his class, takes attendance via clicker. If you cant make it have a friend count you in for the clicker. Dont need the textbook. Never opened it once in my life, all his exams are based off his powerpoint lectures and trial questions. 3 exams and final only counts 2 highest exams + final. Tests tend to get trickier as the semester progresses.
Exams become harder
Easy A. All you need is provided by him on Blackboard. Show up to get your attendance points via Clicker. Never read the book, so you may not need it.
Professor Sterling was very easy and knowledgeable. He lectures most of the time and you get participation points if you show up to class via clicker. He provides the study guides for you which are extremely helpful for the exams. Take this class if you want an easy A
Test and attendance taken via clicker, any questions you get right add up to extra credit. Book unecessary. Online quizzes pretty simple. Trial questions helped the most for exams! 3 exams(only top 2 count) and 1 non cumulative final. Only thing i didn't like: one day people had more questions than usual and he said "ok no more questions." Uh Whet?
My favorite teacher of my Fall 2015 semester.
Easy to get an A if you complete and study the trial questions. Final was the easiest of them all. 4 tests and drops the lowest grade, though not the final. No homework.
This is the most straight forward class I've taken. There is one final, three exams, and he drops your lowest score. Attendance is taken using a clicker to record your answers to 3-5 questions during lecture. There are quizzes and other readings that relate directly to the material. No forced group work or long papers. Class was interesting also.
His class is clear cut. Provides the power point so you can follow along. He also provides study guides for exams. If you do the study guides you will pass the exam with a B or better. That simple
Decent class. The lectures are a bit boring and confusing but he does his best. Tough for me because i'm a CJ major and science is not my happy place. He gives a study guide that has basically the EXACT same questions as the exams. He drops an exam and gives points for attendance. Overall an easy class.
, Test are the study guides, dont need the book. 3 TEST, ONE FINAL, DROPS THE LOWEST TEST SCORE. Attendance is not mandatory but you get extra credit for the questions he gives at the end of class. they add up!!!!
This class is super easy! It is also very boring. There are four exams and you could drop one. You also don't need the book because you basically study from the study guides that he gives. You will need a clicker since thats how he takes attendance.
He is super easy but also super boring. You need a clicker but don't need the book since you could study from the study guides that he offers. Literally just study them and you'll pass. He does clicker questions which is how he basically takes attendance.
You're graded mostly on the 4 exams. He drops the lowest score. Few points through online chapter quizzes and in class clicker questions. Exams reminded me of a game of jeopardy where you remember little science facts, but he pretty much hands you the answers the class before. A Science & Technology teacher who is bad with technology.
Exams 1-3, drop lowest. Must count Exam 4. Takes attendance via clicker questions & gives extra credit if you answer correctly. Study guide online has exact exam questions. A few exam questions from the articles & videos. Goes over study guide right before the exam to give you all the answers. Don't need a book just watch the 50-minute videos.
Very straightforward easy class. Nice guy. 4 exams but drops the lowest score. No HW. He basically gives you the test answers the day before the exam. Just try to remember them and you got an A. Lectures do get very boring.
You literally have to show up and pass. The lectures are interesting but do get boring. 4 tests but drops the lowest grade. Lots of extra credit that adds up throughout the course. No hw and gives you the answers to the tests the day before through his practice exam, but changes the order. I recommend if you want an easy A.
A very boring and very easy class. Theres 4 tests, drops the lowest and takes attendance through clicker questions. He basically gives you the answers to the tests on his study guide.
If you're looking for a moderately easy class, then here you go. 4 "midterms" lowest is dropped, but last one (#4) is mandatory final. Must go to class to get attendance, uses RXB Clicker to check by giving a mini quiz after every lecture in every class. Overall, awesome course. The textbook is not needed!!!
The 1st exam is the easiest, it is just like the study guide word for word. The 2nd and 3rd exam were harder. The final easy, it was just like the study guide. He uses the clicker for attendance and if you answer questions correctly you get extra credit. Super knowledgeable guy.
he provides you with a study guide and goes over the correct answers. Study your study guide to pass the test. you need a clicker for his class. the quizzes are easy, easy A or B
Professor Sterling should have a 5.0 review! Hes a great professor who wants all his students to succeed. The class is structured very well and is easy to understand. Literally this guy is a gem. Take this class, content of the course is a little boring. However, he makes this class worth attending!
You will no have issues passing this class as long as you study for the study guides he gives you for 3 exams and a final. He drops the lowest exam score out of the 3. There are online quizzes that are easy. There are attendance points so make sure you are there to do the extra credit questions. No homework was assigned. I didn't use the textbook.
I would only take him again because it was an easy A. He lectures the entire time & is really boring. He has power points and just rambles on the topics. The test are EXACTLY like the study guide. Drops lowest test score. You use a clicker to answer questions & thats how he takes attendance. Get the questions right and get extra credit points.
Uses clicker for exams/attendance/participation/EC. LECTURES heavy. Study the study guide and his slides to get A's on exams. He drops the lowest score. He's a really cool guy. Class can feel long at times, but he knows the subject well.
This professor is one of the good ones, he is an easy A class. literally, show up and you get points for daily attendance using clickers. NO HOMEWORK, this class is not a stressful one. all his tests are based off of his study guide, and can also be found on quizlet. His lectures are really boring so make sure you have something to do in class, LOL
Only went to class on exam days and still got an A. The class consists of four tests and lowest one is dropped. Use his trial questions to prepare for his exams and you will easily pass with As. All trial question answers are found through Quizlets. It's like a Elem-school stuff. Most kick back class you will ever take @DH, take advantage Toros.
Dr. Sterling is a wonderful professor. He is a tad boring if you aren't active in note-taking. Pay attention to the end of his slides and his study guides and you will pass easily--his tests are almost word-for-word from his slides, quizzes, and study guides. This was probably the easiest and most enjoyable class I took in the semester.
Lectures arent interesting. He provides a study guide and theres extra credit for attendance. His exams are similar to his study guide, but not exactly the same.
There are 3 exams (50 questions - multiple choice & T/F) lowest gets dropped. There is 1 final (same format). He gives 12 quizzes (6 questions), attendance counts towards your grade, he gives extra credit for answering the questions in class correct (Max 9 points). Tests are true to the study guide and make sure you study it to get a good grade.
Study guides are just like exams.
Class consists of 4 exams, lowest one gets dropped. Showing up to class gives you extra credit & his powerpoints are very helpful to what is going to be on the exam. His study guides are almost word for word outlines of the upcoming exams which makes studying a breeze. Some online quizzes that you can complete at your own pace. Great professor.
your in a big lecture room and there is speakers for this class but he will not use them. He is an old guy and his voice is not as deep as it would be if he was younger. His lectures do not match his test. Take another professor not him. The semester is only 6 weeks in and the class is almost empty.
He is one of the best professors at CSUDH. There are 4 tests (lowest gets dropped only counts 2 and the final) online at your pace quizzes before the exam. He is passionate about what he teaches, lectures at a good pace. Study guides are great because tests are 90% similar to it. TAKE HIM !!
One of the nicest professors I've had. Very smart guy who really knows what he is talking about. Although this subject is one I was not very interested in, therefore the lectures were a bit boring to me. But his test questions come directly from the study guides which he goes over in class. Such an easy class to pass.
This class is an easy A/B online. No textbook is required since he hosts zoom meeting and lectures off his PowerPoints. He is definitely the best professor Ive had so far! You could tell he loves what he teaches and is super nice and chill. Take him!
His lectures are pretty boring but he goes over study guides and every question is on the test, his class is designed for you to pass with an A, this is coming from someone who is not good at Science, Math, or Technology. He can be rude and dismissive at times but if you attend his lectures before the test you'll be good!
Professor was very clear at the start of the semester as to what he expected. He stayed on track with his timeline and provided structure. Had awesome study guide sessions. Nothing on the quiz should shock you because he goes over everything in detail and has amazing power point presentations.
Awesome professor, by far my favorite one this semester. He was very smart and knew a lot about science and tech. It's important to pay attention during Zoom lectures because everything he reviews is on the quizzes and exams. The week prior to any exam he will go over the study guide questions which are identical to the ones on the exam.
Very easy class. Biweekly meetings on Zoom; each ends with a quiz for attendance. Out of 4 exams, he counts only 3. He gives study guides which are great to prepare for exams. He posts Connections videos which are great to watch in addition to lectures. Sometimes he explains confusingly, but he is a solid choice. I learned a lot!
If you can, take this class online or while classes are still stay at home. Having the zoom lectures recorded to review is super helpful. Attendance is taken in the form of quizzes. In addition to weekly quizzes, there are 4 exams, but lowest gets dropped. you probably dont need the book, the videos cover the same thing. Lots of articles to read.
*TAKE HIM YOU WON'T REGRET IT. Do the study guides, they help so much with the tests!! His lectures are fun and very informative. Very chill class, he drops your lowest exam score. It is easy to obtain an A just do the work and show up to the lectures as your attendance gets you EC points. Point-Based grade system.
I really liked him. He made class easy to understand despite me being bad at science stuff. So definitely take him, you won't regret it.
Super cool professor, the lectures are kind of boring because you essentially sit and listen to him talk over a powerpoint with little to no class discussion/participation. But if you just do what's required, and try just a little bit, it's a breeze. Highly recommend.
