Can be impatient with students, but otherwise great teacher.
great teacher, well runned lectures, organized, covers all material you need to prepare for math 7, i was well prepared when i took math 7
Great Teacher. Very organized. Fair grader. Easy to understand. Prepares you well for math 7 and 8. Take him!
very good teacher, can be condecending but otherwise- teaches great and the tests are not as hard as he could make them if he wanted!
He is a very HARD GRADER for math 7, if you make one algebraic mistake on any of the exams, you will lose many points hence leading to a low score. His lectures are very good and you can understand the material well, but i would not recommend him for calc
Very fair and knowledgeable. Grades quite forgivingly. Tests can be tricky, but in calc 2 you'd expect that. Mellow, nice classroom atmosphere. Recommended.

Horrible teacher.extremely condescending.Hard grader.impatient.drinks coffee like a maniac. tests appear to follow examples and hw but he twists it up in such a complicated way.he'll combine 3 chapters in one problem no lie, and mark off points biasedly.
very easy to understand. very helpful if you need it. very patient. no homework is collected, but it's very helpful to do it. very small assignments.the tests are very clear, exact same as in the homework assinments exept different #'s. highly recomended!
I took this class in a 6 week course, it was easy. Good lectures, very organized, test are fair. If math is not your subject take him he will be a big help.
take him
go mr taka great guy take himm for math he will get you through it will take any of his classes again
he is great!! he explains well, he is clear and patient.. mellow teacher but not boring..
hw work is fair, every other odd #, doesn't collect it (which is nice) he says that as long as u can do the hw u will be able to do the tests. WRONG. tests are hard and confusing. he gives 7-10 questions to cover 3 chapters, which makes each test questio

This is the best teacher ever.
He used to give extra credits to help students out, but now he doesn't. Well explainations, but his tests will freak you out. He teachs much more than the classes. Points will be deduct if you are late or absent
He's good at explaining some things but skips over parts. He is very annoying when asking the class to answer questions because he sits there and acts like no one knows the answers when some people are saying the answers. The tests are hard.
this guy can't explain and his tests are harder than than calculus exams. he's boring, puts you to sleep in a sec. taka is hard! don't take him exams have nothing to do with homework nor with lectures
from day one told the class he was gonna make our life hard. very hard exams. expects a lot from his students. wouldn't recommend to a student who is weak in math and needs to take the class
The best thing was that he said why things are so, not just do it because I said so. When you know why it works, it makes it so much easier to apply to other concepts or to word problems. He doesn't collect homework, which is good in case you forget it.
ATTENTION: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. i am an A student, with a 3.85 GPA. I was failing this class. He does not explain well at all. His Tests are very hard and don't have anything to do with hie lectures. If you are a Math Genius take him, but if not don't even think about taking him and getting anyth
His tests are a piece of cake. very easy, but his is not very clear when he teaches. Material not hard if you took math 31 is all the same. He gives extra credit and drops the lowest scores on quiz and exams.
Taka isn't a good teacher, i mean i'm an average student in everything, but i just dont recommend him, his tests have nothing to do with the homeworks, and the way he teaches is boring as hell !!

I really don't wanna start, cuz if i do, it'll get pretty dirty ... he just sux a** .. take his class if u planning on failing .. Lates ...
he is the one of the best math teachers in SMC because nobody else can explain materials as clear as he does.I had no problem with understanding math8 materials becuz of his good lecture.TAKE HIM ONLY IF YOU WANT TO WORK HARD AND LEARN.just a note, 9 ppl got As and 12ppl got Bs.his test is not hard.
Very organized instructor. Even though he is reasonably challenging,it is possible to get an A if you work hard.
He is the BESTEST teacher that i ever had. NO one can explain as clearly as he does, also is so nice to answer questions. very gentle man. Made me think change my major to math. If u listen to him and keep up stuff, then u'll get A.
Do not take this teacher!!! Thinks his students know what he's talking when you first learn the material.
I had already failed Pre-calculus with another teacher and then I took him and got a B! He is a great teacher. He can be mean sometimes, but he really makes you understand the material. If you study your notes and understand everything you'll do fine in this class. :)
one of thebest teachers ever! he has hw exas if u did the hw u'll get an A o the quiz if u did the hw he'll just chne the #'s around and that is ur test.. he's great definatly take him will not go on to the next chaper unless u underrstand highly recomended!!!!
i love math and i found it difficult to take this class. seems like true interest in the material and teaching was absent.
fair test and fair grader, gives partial credit. If you do the homework you will do fine in the tests. You can't find anyone explains material better than Taka. Also, he is really hot
He is a really good teacher..patient one. he explains over and over again to the class slowly until everyone understands. His tests are based on Questions on homeworks.so, if you did his hwks.u will get an A for sure! take hIM!
Marvelous!! If you are interested in math or intended to be a math major, then Taka is undoubtedly a great choice!!I really learn a lot from this class. Taka explains everything so clearly. His exams are mostly from homework assigned by him, as long as you do the homework, understand the concept, you can get an A.
he is the bast math teacher i have ever had.
The best is the best. Take him ...as I know in my class 1X got A and 1X got B ...if u are hard working and willing to learn ...taka
he's an awesome teacher.he makes people think for themselves and then backs it up after people try. really great guy to learn from and i had a tons of fun in his class.he explains more clearly than any teacher i have ever had and has a sense of humor.if he taught math 11, i would take him for sure.
Unable to understand the teacher... unorganized... I recommend not taking

great teacher he makes a very good understandable for calculus... easy test if u done all of the homework and understand the idea of all the chapter and u will be fine...
even though his tests are not easy[most of the hong kongers and koreans learnt all these back in their countries before, so they find it easy], he is a nice professor! Math 7 is obviously not an easy subject. You have to work hard for it.

He is easy for students who took calculus in high school or have a strong math background. His tests are not easy, but he drops one of them. He talks very fast and is hard to understand. He expects you to know everything. Even though I did ALL the homework I struggled in his class. TAke him only if you have a strong math background.
yes i agree with the last person.Taka is a good teacher. but he is not the easiest teacher around.I dilligently did all his homework from day one but I still cannot score overall. he gave 10 quizes and allowed to drop 3.4tests,allowed to drop 1 and one final exam. he doesnt take homework into consideration. grades are all based on tests/quizes/exam

very bad teacher .....don't take his class he will mess up ur life ..
Mr. Taka is a very concise teacher, but his tests are extremely difficult. He'll mention something in class breifly, and you'll find that to be the majority of it on a test. Homework counts for basically nothing. Understand the concepts is crucial to completing the course with a worthwhile grade. If math is hard for you, skip this class.
He is a good professor, he explains everything well... I think I won't regret if I end up with B for his math8 class... its worth it.... engineering student may take this class
For most people pre-calculus is not an easy subject (has a 50% pass rate). I had to take this class before with one of the worst math professors I've ever had, and Taka clarified so many things for me. Yes, the tests are hard, but he if you go to class and understand the online homework, you're fine. Very nice and understanding as well.
He is the best math teacher in SMC. Exams from HW and some extra credits are added on the final grade. Take his class and get your A's.
He just like robot~!! I wanna be a human not robot~!! I hate xucking robot..
One of two best match teachers I had in SMC. His lectures are very clear. His homeworks aren't assigned randomly, but cover everything what he expects you to know. His tests question looks like those on homework, but usually with some twist eg instead cos(arcsin(1/2)) can be arcsin(cos(5pi/6)) Never do any problem mechanically on his test.
easy easy easy... can u imagine more A people in class than B,C,D, and F... u can see how many students understand his lecture very well.. if u survive with all the test.. the final really2 easy.. hohoho.. take it.. its worth it
Man oh man you'd better get ready to work in this class! I mean that in a good way though, since Mr. Taka does a good job of explaining. You'd better do your homework though since his tests seem to be based off of it. There's a total of 4 tests and 10 quizzes, but one test and three quizzes are dropped. I recommend this class!
I think Taka belittles his students a bit too much. He is a bit all over the place in his lectures. so far I am unimpressed by him. His tests are only 7 or 8 problems long, which makes it difficult to do well. He does pop quizzes throught out the semester that are only worth 0,5, or 10 points. Not for me.
Before I took Mr. Taka's class, I had already failed Math20 once before so I was scared to death. While I admit there's alot of work in the class, you will end up learning alot. He gives about 4 tests, but he drops one. The tests are also based off of the homework, so do your homework!
I took my math 2 with a much harder prof AND YET, taka is much harder than him. His unpredictable pop-quizes are SO SCARY! and they are as important as your tests so you have to learn his material everyday. I've NEVER find math so difficult until he became my prof. But he truly cares for his students and you just know it. but EASY? far from easy.
THIS GUY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING! IMPOSSIBLE CLASS!! I STUDIED SOO MUCH-- ITS JUST NOT DO-ABLE! STAY AWAY!
mr. taka is very helpful in explaining the material, and if there is anything that you do not get, ask him or go to his office. this is a challenging course and if you fall behind, it is hard to catch up, so keep current. the course is managible though.
HE'S THE HARDEST, AN I MEAN THE HARDESTTT, MATH 8 PROFESSOR EVER. HIS CLASS IS IMPOSSIBLE, HIS QUIZES ARE SO UNEXPECTED, HIS TEACHING IS WAY TOOOOO FAST FOR ANYONE TO CATCH UP. HALF THE TIME I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE'S SAYING (AND ENG IS MY FIRST LANGUAGE).
Taka's class is easy if you keep up If you fall behind, you need to catch up right away or you should drop. He does a great job of explaining the material and if you have any additional questions that don't get answered in class, be sure to go to his office hours. Most of all, keep up with the homework; that way the pop quizes won't be impossible
This is insane thinks that Math should be tought his way and confuses your mindset with him saying coshx sinchx SMCX needs better math teachers from Math 7 and above or else nobody will transfer to the school of their choice and the dreams go down the drain all b/c of the professors.
ProfTaka is a very clear and orgranized lecturer. He will never test on anything that is not in the book or not mentioned in class. For me this class was an easy A, but for some who havent ever been introduced to the concepts. the class was a little difficult. We had 14quizes 4 dropped. and 1 test dropped out of 4. If you are a serious student t8k him
Take McGraw rather than Taka. although he drops 1 test and 3 quizes, still McGraw is better than him. 10 quizzes, 4 tests, and a final. Very organize. But he takes many points from stupid mistakes.
please dont take this professor, he's gonna mess up your gpa, although his tests are similar to the homework like other people say, he makes it ten times harder
An A in this class is very possible with effort. Math is a skill that must be learned. I found no problem picking up the skills i need to earn my A in this class. If you have read one of the reviews completely bashing this teacher, know there is another side, and I did not find this teacher bad at all. If you are a serious student Taka teaches fine
I can't believe how many people have written that they hate him! I LOVED him. I felt like I barely had to do any work for this class. He was great at explaining the concepts and he clarified so many things that I've always wondered about. He's passionate about math and loves teaching. And he's tiny and adorable. :)
I hate math and most math classes are hard for me but this teacher really does give you the benefit of the doubt and if you do all your homework on time you'll have no problem understanding what to do. He also drops a test score which is nice. He helps you out as much as possible!
he was extremely helpful who know what he is talking about he loves to answer your questions and always tries to help students. great teacher++ at the end of the class, he just stops taking attendance, but you still need to go to class to understand the material
Math 8 is considerably harder than Math 7, but Professor Taka made the subject an interesting one. The exams aren't tricky (similar to homework problems) but a minor algebraic mistake will lower your grade from an A to a B. Lots of material was covered in this course and chapter 11 was by far the hardest one. Don't fall behind & you'll be alright.
He is horrible teacher. I am bio major with GPA 4.00. He like only students that are Japenese and Chinese and the other studnets God help them. Don't take him ever, never.
He talks fast, he skips chapters, he is hard. BUT, if you're nerdy and you love math, you should take him. oh yeah, HE'S NICE.
Pay attention and do the homework. He teaches everything you need to know and prepares you well for the next level. If you don't understand a problem, he uses the beginning of class for questions and he answers all of them. If you fail, don't blame him- he does his part well.
i loved this guy. like with all math classes, don't fall behind. I hardly did any of the homework, missed about two weeks worth of class, failed two exams and still passed.i wouldn't recommend that if you're not awesome or willing to learn everything a week before the final. He was patient, helpful, and adorable. yeah, i totally had a crush on him.
material was hard but ok if you really study. makes quite a big diff in your grade if u make small mistakes.he might be careless on a question he grades but rarely. i got this feeling he likes the asians not because the majority are but..just a gut feeling thats all. in short dont fall behind, get someone better if you can otherwise he'll be aight.
math is hard to teach, but he explains the steps REALLY WELL. Fast, but very nice & clear. so ASK! if you dont know how to solve something. speak up if you think you know the answer, cuz he often is like "sheesh you should know this!". enjoyed this class tho!
the kind of prof you warm to over the semester. seems intimidating at first bc he insinuates a lot that "u should know this and that" but u get used to it over time. 4 tests 10 quizes drops lowest + final. uses webassign for HW. do HW every night & dont rush it! ask questions! be prepared to put in effort $ this class. id def. take taka again.
Awesome professor. If you take the time to do the homework and understand it, you know everything you need to know for tests and quizes. His lectures organized and easy to follow.
One of the best math teachers in EXPLAINING the concepts but believe me, his tests are impossible to fully complete during the timelimit (1 hour). His tests have questions that you have never seen before and no matter the amount of time you go over your notes/hw problems/or his "help" you still won't be able to "predict" the questions. Really hard!
Tests are easy if you know how to do homework problem. Some problems may be hard, but good thing about his test is that he gives you lots of partial credits for just trying. I've got 87% overall and I got an A. My girl friend also got an A with average 84%. If you show your effort, you can get an A. He likes students who are trying. Recommend him!
One of amazing professor. The class wasn't hard. He makes you study and do well. I got an A and will take him again!
He is the best math teacher ever!!!He is extremely clear,organized,fair....only posititve things. He gives a lot of partial credit on tests and the quizes are very easy if you do your homework on time.I wish he were teaching math 11!!
Best math professor I've ever had. His lectures are very clear and helpful. If you understand everything on the homework and practice tests, you will probably get an A. He answers any questions you might have about the homework at the beginning of class. Pretty cool guy.
clear,patient,nice,not hard.
very good prof, he is not very care about the progress if you get the right answer. He will allowed you drop low grade quiz and test.
To me, he is the easiest math teacher ever!! I love him so much.
Good teaching style but sometimes he goes very fast on certain things which are hard to understand. quizzes are kind of annoying but can help you to improve your grade and he also drops your lowest exam score
He is a good lecturer and very clear but I felt his test were extremely difficult. I had to drop the class because I was failing. However, I stayed and audited the class so I would be prepared when I took Math 8 again. His lectures helped me to more easily understand the material when I took a Math 8 with Askarian who had more reasonable tests.
Taka was very helpful and patient professor to start with, especially for non-math/sci major like me. However, I do hope his lecture to be more interactive.
Very intelligent professor, and his lectures were not boring at all, which helps with a difficult topic like calculus. The problem was not him, it was his schedule. It's very easy to fall behind, especially if you work. Also, keep in mind that the length of the class is the amount of time you'll have during tests.
I loved him! His teaching style is extremely thorough and clear. He makes sure that you don't memorize the material but instead actually learn and understand it. That really helped bcos you never had to memorize; your mind already knew it. exams are do-able. practice exams are pretty similar to it. make sure to do all hw.
Personally, I do not recommend Taka at all. Took Math7 with him: 4 tests, 10 quizzes, 1 final. Difficulty: very hard. Not because of the material, but because he is such a very hard grader. Bases your overall grade SOLELY ON TEST SCORES! Doesn't collect Homework. No EC. Don't believe what he says about tests being the homework questions either.
Taka is VERY good at lecture. You'll understand completely, but his tests are impossible to complete in 1 hour and the problems are nothing like you'll ever see on the hw even though he says the hw is the best study guide. Alot of it is getting lucky and seeing the answer during a test. If you make ONE mistake on an early step, its hard to fix it.
Taka is very clear in lecture, provides usually only rudimentary examples, although sometimes likes to work through what he calls "worst-case scenario problems." However, none of this will really prepare you for his tests, in which you will be presented with problems you have no idea how to do. Do not listen to him regarding the ease of the final.
Extremely clear and precise. Highly recommended, as he teaches you how to do problems using the clearest method possible. Shows different ways of approaching problems. Tests are challenging however so study. Does not collect homework, but his test questions are from homework with different integers.
He gave extra credit. He graded fair on the exam. Just follow his instruction and you will get a good grade. He taught very clearly and he was a nice person. He checked hw, drop 3 out of 10 quizzes and drop 1 out of 4 tests. Final is mandatory.
Crystal clear and extremely helpful. He's my favorite! Just work hard and ask for help when you need it. Test are hard given the amount of time, but materials are all from homework/lecture. so really do your homeworks!!! Final are embarrassingly easy compared to the test, since it only covers general/basic idea.
Great professor if you're good at math. Moves fast, will not wait if you don't ask. Ask questions if you are confused or you might be confused forever. Treats his job as a job, so you must be interested for him to care.
Mr. Taka is one of the few good Math teachers at Santa Monica College. However he is not the easiest. He does explain good, but his tests are hard, and you feel like everything you did on the homework and during the lecture is useless. No calculators are allowed, no formula sheet it allowed, you have to work hard from day 1
If you want to learn/understand the material, I recommend taking Taka. It's not an easy A, don't expect it to be. He offers some grade-boosting things, but really you have to understand the material to do well. The heavy textbook isn't needed in class most days, and homework isn't collected till the end of the semester. Tests aren't needlessly evil
Taka is a great professor who gives very straight forward and clear lectures. You should ask questions if you have them because, if you wait, you'll be lost forever. Try to stop by the tutoring center if you're still lost. Homework is collected at the end of the sem. Tests aren't painful, but do require A LOT of studying. Good luck! (:
Second math class with him. He is a great person! He gave me add code or I would get F in prof jimenez's class. I tried very hard to get this B, I got A in prof taka's math 7. Both the material and his test are hard. The most difficult part in his tests is proving. Miss him very much. He retires after 2013 fall. Thank you professor.
