He tries to make a boring class fun. I kinda like him, but beware the symbolic logic...
Philosophy is tough, but he makes it interesting. He can be pretty funny too. Try to get him in a class with under 20 people for best effect.
Nice man but he can't get across what he is trying to say on your level. The material is easy, he takes his gen ed class serious but he makes the material difficult. If you like to know how your doing throughout the semester don't take his class. You won't know until the day of the final.
The class isn't too tough if you read a little, do your homework, and take decent notes. It was really confusing at first but it started making sens as we went along.
He goes off on random tangents (mostly about legalization of marijuana), doesn't make ANY sense whatsoever, gets right in your face (literally) if you speak up, and doesn't provide any sort of clarification or help even if you approach him outside of class.
Dr. Thiher was possibly one of the most scatter-brained profressors I have had yet. The rambles about the same thing all class peroid. If you take his class, be prepared to have lots of homework and hard test.
he is very longwinded. "the only organ in his body is his lungs."
This is a hard class. You better not miss any class b/c you never know when there will be a portfolio assignment or him taking role. He rambles on and on and it is a boring class. Just read the chap. and study hard. The tests are hard and the final is very hard.
I got a B in his class, I liked the fact that he did give out a lot of homework to keep your grade up, the final was ridiculous. It made no sense at all. As far as lecture, he was very scatterbrained and was not making sense. I pretty much taught myself.
He was funny and enthusiastic about his career, but very hard to understand. The tests are hard but he grades on a curve in the end and I somehow managed a B after missing several assignments and doing average on the tests.Class is kind of boring because he changes topics alot, but once you learn how to take him, he's alright. Sings funny lil songs
I loved Dr. Thiher but the class was the hardest to understand nothing on the good doctor he made it as fun as this class gets The name of this class is very misleading. The good doctor is so smart that trying to understand this class at my level was mad hard ............Mr. Mc G
i learned more about logic in his class then Dr.Spock...

Dr.Thiher is good in explaining the idea of this class even though there's nothing to explain about. The book and the basic idea of Critical Thinking is very straightforward. If you get the basic idea of this class from week 1, you can just play along all semester and get out with an guaranteed A. Easiest class I have ever had in college.
The Good Doctor is very sweet and funny. Very easy to talk to.But his class is sooo hard. The title of class misleads you! I always considered myself as a crtical thinker, but this class makes me a critical stupid a**!Good guy, hard class. I'm a average student and this class was hard for me.Recommendation:DO NOT TAKE/ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK
He's really funny... ok, and so what?? His class is very HARD !!! Be prepared for a lot of homeworks, and hard tests !
just be prepared for tests. he takes random roll call - try not to miss class much. he's very helpful when you ask. don't be afraid to visit his office if you need help.
Philosophy is just plain tough. He's a good guy talks a little above a freshman's head but very helpful one-on-one! Lots of papers and the tests are hard but it's the nature of the beast. Attendance is very important and staying on top of the readings and assignments is a MUST. If you do these things a B is attainable without too much pain.
Funny guy. He reminds me, somehow, of Kurt Vonnegut. He does like to ramble, and unless you appreciate his ramblings he may come off as boring or various other things.

Hilarious teacher. Likes to sing old songs. Likes to talk. The subject matter can be confusing, but if you ask him he can explain it to you. Do the homeworks. He offered an extra credit assignment to our class worth like 5% or something. He makes the class a little less painful.
Takes random attendence. He is interesting at times but very boring at other times. He grades hard and is very hard to follow--I would avoid him.
Good guy but a HARD teacher. Get the old tests if you want to make a good grade in this class!
Great teacher as he challenges you to think. Light on attendance but dont miss too much or you'll fall behind. Very light on the homework.
He's random in just about everything, but I love him. Divides the class into groups and assigns four papers per group, one group's due each week. Tests topics are taken from those essays. I only do the reading for the essays in my group, and I have a good A. Participation counts, but he's lenient on attendance. Reccommended!
Hillarious teacher! Quite a nerd though which makes his class all the more fun. He seems to have no problem putting into words quite complex thoughts. Try not to come to class too high though.. he might lose you if you do. Critical thinking, for those that dont know is basicly an introduction to logic. I recommend the course and especially this guy
VERY nice guy; I missed the final & he let me take it w/the next class!!! E-Z 2 work w/. Hard class though; the book is e-z-er 2 understand than him; 7 h.w.'s u wil need book 4; ALWAYS study 4 ur tests - NEVER try 2 wing it - U can pass with an A/B if you REALLY try but i won't lie - it is a challenge to do so; takes attend. abt. 1 time a week
He's pretty random and a little spacey sometimes, but it makes it interesting. Class can either be fun or boring, depending on the material. Either way, though, you don't have to be there the majority of the time. However, he does give in class assignments and takes random attendance occasionally.
I didn't like him very much. He rambles and talks in circles and I just could not understand him. He doesn't "get to the point". He's a little nerdy and random, which isn't good. His tests are hard, and so is the homework. The only good thing about this man is that attendance isn't very important.
What can I say about this guy. I came into this class thinking it would be really hard. Its not all you have to do is listen and take notes. Read the text here and there and you will be fine. He is an awesome professor.
I took him for Ethics. Gotta love the Thiher! Take him if you like to think. If you dont like to think... you might want to consider something other than college eh?
Took the critical thinking class. Thiher seems to be a good teacher, but he doesn't teach this class very well. He often gets off topic or will talk in circles making it difficult to take notes from him, but interesting to listen to. He gives 3 tests over the course of the semester and a few homework assignments. Attendance is not mandatory.
I love him! He is really nice. He talks and talks and talks, but i never listen. I just do the papers and then study for the only 2 test we had! TAKE HIM!
Dr. Thiher is halarious! He will make the class fun even though the text is boring. He is very helpful with misunderstandings! If I could I would take this class again next semester just for a good laugh everyday!
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Most boring class ever. Doesn't give A's.4 papers, midterm & final are the only grades. He thought it was funny he final was super hard. Book he uses is hard to follow. He uses really big words and makes you feel dumb. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
This class is really hard. It can be interesting sometimes. The textbook is very difficult to follow and comprehend, reading multiple times is often needed to understand clearly. Tough grading on papers and tests. Tough class, should be able to get a B, if you work hard...and an A if you work hard and get lucky.
smart guy, terrible at teaching gen ed classes. rambles about pointless stuff and gets off track often..reading is the only way you can get a decent grade, don't rely on his lectures for any assistance. Oh and he counts off your grade if you miss more than 3 classes so beware!
This dude constantly rambles on and on not making any sense. I pay attention in class and try to take notes but its almost impossible!! This is a freshman level course!!
Worst teacher ever. I wish I wouldn't have taken him. I'm a straight A student and couldn't pull off an A in this class. Very picky when grading tests and papers.Book might as well be in a different language.Doesn't care about your grade. Says he usually will only have about 1 A. I'd find a different teacher if I were you.
This class isn't too bad.Pretty boring.I was expecting a philosophy course, but this class is all about arguments and formulas. It's like the math of philosophy.I fell asleep almost every class and still managed to keep an A because of the major curve he gives. You do learn quite a bit. This would be a great class if you're looking to go into politics.
Critical thinking sucked. I never read the book and listened in class. Got an easy A. It just takes a bit to understand how he teaches. Homework is REALLY hard to get A's on, but he gives a major curve at the end to get his bell curve. I was one of 5 A's on his first test out of 3 classes. Studied night before and did fine.
He is a very knowledgeable professor who I would take again if a needed an elective.
easy a boring lectures..30 minute cram from each chaper for an exam and your perfect. no homework assined EVER no papers. 3 inclass bullcrap response and 4 30 multiple choice exams if you want a filler class and easy a take him
This is basically a logic class-the formula for arguments. It is not hard to get an A. Takes random attendance (usually Fridays or days before breaks when hardly anyone comes). Portfolio assignment in class, which basically if you try you get 100. Tests from book and notes, non-comprehensive and really clear. Understands college students!
Thiher was not awful to have in class, but it's apparent that he's lost his luster for life, or teaching, at least. He's reaching the grumpy old man phase, I think. Forget the class discussions. 98% of this class is his rambling lectures.
He does take attendance randomly but you're allowed 3 free absences. He rambles A LOT. But if you need an A in a gen ed class, take him. You'll pass as long as you take notes & look through the book a little the night before. He gives extra credit towards the end so you'll be fine!
very very very boring! Always rambles. If you miss more than three times there are consequences. He does not take attendance every day but enough to count. He always will take a deep breath and say a sentence that takes ten minutes to finish
Most boring teacher I've had. Rambles WHOLE time!No clue what he was ever talking about.Had to write 4 2 page essays that were terrible.2 test, 1 was 2 essays, other was the final which was the hardest most confusing test I've taken, it was mult choice but that did me no help.NOT an easy a!I'm an A B student and I am worried about my final grade.
Didn't really teach the material. Reading assignments every night with quizzes over EVERY single one the next class. Boring! He only allows 3 absences. Two exams: first is hand writing two essays (2 pages each) in class with only 45 minutes. Second is a multiple choice that is comprehensive of the entire semester! Randomly sings- not a good singer
Wow he is hard. Only suggestion is go to the online book website, DO THE PRACTICE QUIZZES. Literally 3/4 of every test was word for word from practice quizzes. Otherwise really hard class. He is not the best at teaching.
TERRIBLE. Hated this class. He'll talk over you when you try to ask a question, and then get upset when your question doesn't get answered. He'll argue with you about dumb stuff and he cusses like a sailor. If you take this class, do the online quizzes for the book. That's where he get some questions for the test. Also some test ?s don't make sense
DO NOT TAKE! This is the worst professor I have had. He rambles the whole class period. From the first day of class until the last day you will have no clue what he is even talking about. Book is needed. Tests are pretty easy, read the definitions. Takes attendance on Fridays. Go to class and read the book while he "lectures."
His lectures usually help out for better understanding of the text. The papers are not long, usually a minimum of two pages, max of three. He is very hilarious.
He bs's a lot but the textbook is helpful. Make sure you take notes
I had Mr. Thiher for Critical Thinking. He is absolutely crazy, but he knows his stuff. Never cancels class and lectures are soooo boring. I only studied from the book and did just fine! He tells a few new things (not in book) that are important, but not too significant. Don't slack off as semester goes on.. it's easy to do. final is comprehensive.
Thiher is the best professor I've had while at college. He is one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life. He explains concepts until you really understand. Allowed 3 absences, but rarely takes roll. Fairly easy tests. Cusses a ton. Very, very knowledgeable. Will stay after class. Very nice guy, great class!
He reminds me of a Southern version of Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean. He's pretty crazy but not a bad guy. But the lectures were boring. I just brought my textbook to class and took notes. You have to really memorize every page of the textbook to understand what will be on the test. If you can avoid this class, do.
Tests are easy if you read & do exercise problems.
Read the textbook and you'll be fine. Takes some of the test questions off of textbook's website. Funny guy but swears a ton, so if that bothers you I wouldn't take him.
So, first off, if you're Type A like me, proceed with caution. His teaching style is scattered. The material he covers comes from the books, but he words test questions off lecture - so show up. Haphazard attendance-taking. Curses like a sailor. Good, not great, not terrible either.
He cusses during lecture. This class can be boring. Pop quizzes are over the readings. Do your work and you should be fine. Only two test, 2 essay prompts and a final. The essay prompts are given to you .
Very laid back
Good personality but not a good teacher. When students talk he will interrupt you. Isn't very clear in lecture. You've gotta pay attention and you may make a C. Not clear on grading criteria whatsoever. Isn't clear on class work either. Not easy to talk to. By far not my favorite. Pick another teacher if you can!!
Definitely not a huge philosophy fan as it is but this class didn't make things better. Assigns quizzes for every reading done for homework. Rambles a lot. Not very structured. Will drag class on to make it reach the full time.
Beware of pop quizzes, so always read the chapter before coming to class. He makes you work for your grade.
Hes really funny and usually pretty nice. His lectures are really hard to follow most times though and do little to clear up the readings which all have quizzes that can be confusing. The four two page papers are not all that difficult because he is not a difficult grader, but if you dont understand the readings they wont be easy.
You cannot read his writing on the board during lectures and I didn't learn anything and I attended class everyday. Its a learn on your own by reading the book kind of thing.
I took intro to logic! Great person, but very chaotic. Don't take unless you can deal with a prof who is ALL over the place. Just practice the problems, read the book, do the homework, and show up on friday for attendance and you'll be fine. :) all hail the logos.
Worst teacher Ive had. His class was the only B I got all semester. Couldnt ready his handwriting at all and he cusses non stop. I had to read the book and watch YouTube videos to figure things out on my own.
Thiher is super old, and rambles when he lectures. He goes off on tangents constantly. All of his tests are right out of the book. I skipped every class after the first month, showed up for tests, and got a B. If you want to take this course to get something out of it, take it with Butler.
I ended up getting an A for this class but its absolute hell. If it wasnt required for my major I wouldnt have taken it, at least not with this professor. His lectures go by very quick, and hes quite so its hard to hear what hes saying. Theres lack of examples and just rambling. His grading is weird too. You will never know your grade.
Mr. Thiher is a very witty and pretty care free teacher. Don't get on your phones in class much or he will say something to you. Make sure to read the chapters he assigns, but other than that they class is pretty easy!
Mr. Thiher is a very funny and care free teacher, but do not just sit on your phone in his class or he will end up saying something to you. Make sure to read the chapters he assigns, but other than that it is a pretty easy class.
Very scattered brained will argue with anyone for no reason. Could not read his writing on the board and does not keep up with blackboard. You have to read alot for yourself to even pass the class. If you have to take this class do not take him save yourself the effort and take it with any other professor.
He is a little hard to hear during lectures. Not very online savvy, he never posts grades on "blackboard" so you'll have to keep up with your points so you know what grade you have. Rambles in lectures. Read and you will be fine. He is a nice/funny guy, but I don't think I'd want to take his class again.
Have no idea how I got an A as he doesn't use Blackboard for grades, but he gives test grades in class. Read the textbook thoroughly to do good. He doesn't give many in-class assignments. He's older and adorable, just asks for respect. Talk to him in person if you need anything, he does take attendance. Low-effort class, but Thiher is cool!
Wouldn't recommend to anyone
Hard to hear even when sitting in the front due to his lung disease. You can tell he's passionate, but he also tends to ramble. 2 exams, 2 essays, and 18 "pop" quizzes are all he uses for your grade. Lots of reading from the textbook, he expects you to come prepared and already know the basics of what he is talking about for the day. Nice but hard.
Professor Thiher was okay. Classes were really boring and hard to pay attention. Tests are semi easy if you read the textbook. Wouldn't take him again.
I had this philosophy class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and he would talk for the entire hour and 15 minutes every single class without every stopping, not once. Pop quizzes before every class based on the readings he assigns, and 2 papers. Decently easy class, but the most boring class I've ever taken. No chance of staying alert and attentive
Biggest yapper, maybe he's just way smarter than everyone and thats why we can't understand him. Just save your time and find another professor.
Dr. Thiher is not a bad professor per say but his classes were not my favorite to attend. He lectures very heavy, and all grades are taken only by pop quizzes and exams. He is easy if you do the studying needed but if you do not like to study or read, I would not at all recommend you to take him as your professor.
Where do I start? This class was a social experiment on my sanity. Mr. Thiher is a nice old man, but I had no idea what was going on most of the time. The readings are confusing, and quizzes and exams were brutal. Getting an A feels impossible unless you cheat. Good luck, you'll need it, and so will your GPA.
