Great teacher, interesting class, easy A.
A very good teacher with interesting lectures. He makes sure that you understand the concepts so that you can pass the tests, which are fairly hard. He knows a lot about sociology - take him if you can.
He is AWESOME! If it's a 3 hour class you'll stay almost the whole time but he's very interesting. He explains things so thoroughly and puts video clips in his power points to help. He loves his subject matter and that shows in the way he teachers. = )
good teacher. show up to class and pay attention to what he's saying and you should do fine.
He?s a wonderful teacher very knowledgeable, Funny and intelligent you will learn a lot from his class, he?s really interesting, you?re going to love sociology if you take it with Mr. Voelkl, I highly recommend him.
He is a great teacher. I learned so much in his class. He really explains things in a way you'll understand and remember. The tests are pretty easy, just study the review sheet and your good. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
Professor Voelkl is one of my absolute favorite teachers at SCF. He is interesting, funny, and exhibits a great knowledge in Sociology. Too many teachers at SCF let you get away with anything and everything which teacehes you nothing in terms of college life. I HIGHLY reccomend his class! DO IT!
Easy class great professor! Let everyone understand what he was talking about. Gives quizzes that are multiple choice and easy also for each one there's a review guide you don't have to turn it in but it's helpful also he answers any questions and goes over things before a quiz. Book is a cd now didn't use it at all except for his assignment of papers due at the end of the semester where you just needed sources from the book.
Good class, some of the wording on some test can trip you up. If you do the work and study his slides and study guides it is easy to pass. I would not recommend buying the book! It is only used as a reference guide for some reflection questions. The Final Stinks! It is a state test and HARD! I had all A's on every test, the final I got a 43.
He is very helpful and makes interesting connections between what your learning and things going on in our lives today. He really enjoys what he is teaching which makes the biggest difference in how much you will enjoy the class. He is great I wish SCF offered more SYG classes
Kinda weird sense of humor. At first.. he was SO boring I couldnt kep my eyes open. HOWEVER, towards the end of the semester he had the whole class laughing. lol. I think it just takes him a while to "warm up." He really is a good guy and he cares ALOT about his profession. you will DEFINITELY learn something from him =) I'd give him an A for sure!
Best teacher I have ever had! Yes he has a different sense of humor but his lectures and power points made the material very understandable. He seems to really love his job and shared with us many of his life experiences as they related to the subject. I loved this class and I would take any class he taught! He's great!!!
He's great! Passionate about what he teaches. Very patient, maybe more patient than I would be with people that have side conversations. Does not care if you are late as long as you make it till the end of class. Very approachable. All around great guy :)
Dr. V is awesome! He sits indian style on his desk when he speaks and is kind of awkwardly funny. He is very sweet and his study guides for the test are amazing, I missed only one question on the midterm. He goes over everything and really invests in his students and knows his subject well. I would take any class he has to offer!
Prof. Voelkl is AMAZING! He is really passionate about sociology! He brings in his experience as a company therapist (i think) when he worked for Kodak. For the tests he puts up the study guides for them a week before, so all you have to do is study them and you get an A! Really awesome. Wish he taught another class so I can take it!
Good teacher! Take notes on lectures along with power points, can't fail. Need to actually study. Book was only used for the papers, it's digital.
So easy even a caveman could do it.
Absolutely LOVED Prof. Voelkl. To this day, it's a tie between him and Dr Runde as my favorite professors at SCF. You can tell he really enjoys what he does, and his passion really carries over to his students. No assignments, but 10 'reflection papers' due at the end of the semester. I got high A's on all my tests just from taking notes. Take him!
Prof Voelkl is great. He clearly enjoys the subject and is a good teacher. He gives out study guides prior to each test, including the midterm and final. He goes over any questions prior to the tests. Five reflection papers are due by semester end - not difficult. Wish he taught more classes at SCF. I now enjoy Sociology!
Prof Voelkl is great. He clearly enjoys the subject and is a good teacher. He gives out study guides prior to each test, including the midterm and final. You DO need to study. He goes over any questions prior to the tests. Five reflection papers are due by semester end - not difficult. Wish he taught more classes at SCF. I now enjoy Sociology!
Best teacher I have ever had! He brought a lot of personal interests into his lessons and kept things exciting!! I'd recommend his class to anyone. By far the best teacher at SCF. I wish he taught more classes
By far one of the best professors at SCF!!! He is really great giving examples and clarifying things in his lectures. He will answer any question and make sure you understand the answer. Take notes, show up and ask questions easy A!
Professor Voelkl is one of the best professors at SCF. There are 4 tests, a midterm, and final. The only other assignment is a reflection paper which is easy. He also gives a study guide for tests, so use that and you'll be good to go.
His class has been by far my favorite class I have ever taken. He is very passionate about what he talks about and that makes it so easy to stay interested. As long as you pay attention in class and take notes, not to mention study for the five tests he gives out you, will end up with an A. He is an awesome teacher.
Great Sociology teacher. Explains things well. Quizzes have clear reviews and very easy to study. Power points are clear and I really enjoyed this class! (Summer A) Text book is freeoniline
Overall a great teacher... thorough and well experienced in the subject. He's easy to talk to, but the lectures do get long. You just take notes off a PowerPoint every class. Tests are few, and he gives study guides for quizzes. He will always re-explain things or take time for questions. Only suggestion - don't take the 8 am class without coffee
Such a great professor. Explains everything in detail. Show up ready to take notes or print our powerpoint prior. Super easy to get an A. He is always willing to help and ask for questions before quizzes/exams. The tests are just like the powerpoint and review. He is a wonderful professor.
Tests are straightforward and he gives a study guide for them. Also before each quiz he asks if anyone has any questions and will answer them. Lectures always go the full time and can sort of drag on but overall its pretty okay.
Voelkl is a cool teacher. The are 6 tests, including a midterm and a final. The midterm is a combination of the first two tests, and the final is a combination of the last two tests. He explains the theories and concepts really clearly, and posts all of the lectures onto Canvas. He grades attendance, but doesn't care for participation.
He's a great professor! He clearly explains the material and makes it easy for you to understand and remember. He's humorous and makes the class really easy to pass with an A and the textbook is really only used for the reflection papers. Definitely one of my favorite classes this semester. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Professor Voelkl is so far my absolute favorite professor that I've taken at SCF. His lectures are clear and straight forward and he makes them interesting. Tests are EXACTLY what he lectures, and theres only 4 of them. I would definitely recommend him and take him again, he made sociology so interesting!
He reminds me of Toby Flenderson from the Office.
Dr. Voelkl is an amazing professor and you can tell he is very knowledgable and cares about what he is teaching! You know exactly what to expect from this class and makes assignments clear. Pay attention and you'll get an A. (P.S. he is literally Toby Flenderson from the office)
Voelkl is amazing. Best professor I've ever had. Very good lectures and easy tests. Best part is, he goes over any questions you could possibly have the day of the test before he passes the it out. No pop-quizzes or any surprises. Never any homework except to study when there's a quiz. Reflections at the end of the semester are easy enough.
Dr. Voelkl is great! His class consists of 4 quizzes, 1 mid term, 1 final and a 5 paged paper that you can work on ALL semester and its super easy. For the quizzes he gives you a review. If you study the reviews there is no reason why you shouldn't get an A in this class!
I'd definitely recommend Prof Voelkl! His lectures are easy to follow and he clearly knows his stuff. Make sure to take notes because all the answers to the study guides are in the powerpoints. Also, the study guides are basically the tests so do those too. Did not have to use the textbook for class, only for the reflection papers which were easy.
This was one of the best professors I've had! He explains his material so clear. The lectures might seem sort of long but if he finishes early, he lets the class out early. Took him for the summer and it was so easy. As long as you pay attention, study, and review you'll ace the class.
Goes through the powerpoints and not much else. If you listen in class no studying is required except maybe 15 minutes before the exam. It's an easy A but he spends a lot of time on answering irrelevant questions or going through unnecessary examples. The material is straight forward but repetitive.
His grading criteria is very clear. He's a very good professor. He will help you with any questions you have before the tests.
Wholesome professor. Only 4 quizzes all semester
The best professor I've had at SCF. Love that man. Easy class, easy quizzes, 10/10
Come to class, pay attention, and do the reflection paper, this should be an easy A. Memorizing definitions isn't as important as understanding the examples he gives for them during his lectures, because they show up on his quizzes, midterm, and final exam. Attendance counts, but being late isn't a deal, you'd only be hurting yourself.
Dr Voekl is such a great professor! I never knew how fascinating sociology was until taking his class. He gives great examples and is very clear and detailed on his lectures. If you pay attention you should pass easily. I always look forward to his class.
Mr. Voelkl is a great professor. He was interesting to listen to and willing to answer questions. His class is very straightforward (both bc of him and the material itself; if you know basic definitions of words you wont have a rough time). Final and midterm are questions seen before and tests dont throw curveballs at you. Would recommend to all.
Very great teaching style. Explains everything so that youre not confused. Shows compassion and makes the subject interesting to learn, definitely recommend.
very kind and a great teacher. I loved his class, it was one of my favorites. It's easy because he explains so well and it's also very interesting.
This class was really interesting and the professor was very informative. You could tell he has a real passion for his field. Its a very easy course as long as you listen to the lectures and review study guides.
Took this course in the Spring, course load is average, quizzes were mid level to hard you will need to study -Not an easy A Discussion are threads you are required to respond multiple times or you will recive low score for only answering one person, respond often and log-in daily, Dr. Voelkl very strict on grading.
Study guide provided for test and the lecture you will learn a lot of interesting topic we got out early some day. He is far on grading but harsh on test question.
I like the class but the discussion style required to much time.
Fall semester fun course, lots if work, one-sided a bit , I do agree with the other reviews he can be very harsh an unforgiving, test are harder then they need to be and you will need to study a lot
Professor Voelkl is one best professors at SCF however There are 4 tests, a midterm, and final with fill in the blank. The only other assignment is a reflection paper which is easy. Dont like discussion post they are thread multiple log-in post per week and will drag your GPA down Very Unforgiving Test are tricky so study
Nice course lots of work basic for this levels
Wow, the reviews are spot on! The book for the class was a good read, several quizzes, two test with a essay componits and its timed, mulitlple Q/A discussion post each week if you take the course online. Not your walk in the park, my advice study hard he is not forgiving on grading, No extra Credit
The coures with Dr. Voelkl is eye opening, but the articles were dated, some of verbege used was limited an dateded also. I will not be taking agin.
Most of it is exams and reflection questions. The exams and study guides are all from the powerpoints. There are 5 reflection questions in the summer term and 4 exams excluding the midterm and final exam. All pretty straightforward. I would highly recommend looking up " Sociology: quiz 02" exactly as is, on quizlet. This helped me so much.
Yes, you will learn in the course because Professor Voelkl is one best professors at SCF however you will need to work for your grade, 4 tests, a midterm, and final. I gave low marks slowly because of his test an quizzes are so random in style, you require hours of pre-study time just for a 30-min section quiz,
A lot of the exams and reflection questions and you will receive exams study guides that outline all from the powerpoints, you have to fill in the rest. Nice man but horrible grading
This man is the best teacher I could've ever asked for, he is funny, kind, and very caring.
This is the easiest class you can take as long as you study the exam reviews. Lectures are very interesting and thorough. Professor voelkl is very caring and easy to reach out too.
He's a sweetheart.
He is one of the best teacher in SCF. His class is so interesting and you learn a lot with just hes lectures. If you understand the material you will pass with an A
amazing professor, very understanding and passionate about teaching.
Awesome professor! I loved this class a lot more than I though I would. This class gets you to think and this professor does a good job of staying unbiased when teaching. I loved writing the reflection papers because you had the whole semester to do it. All you have are quizzes and a few tests. Very easy, the reviews are the same as the tests.
amazing professor, very knowledgeable on the topic and talks through his power points rather than reading straight from them, allows students to take notes on their computers and if you study the review you will do well the tests, the midterm and final are exactly like the tests only combined, and the final is just on the last half of the semester.
GREAT Teacher would highly recommend. Not boring at all and super easy to understand. Do have to study before a test but they are very easy as along as you read the notes. Got an A on everything.
His classes are full of lectures, but are very interesting and you can tell he is very knowledgable about the course material. If you do the study guides you will pass the tests.
I just love him! Listen to his lectures, read them quickly before the test and you'll get an easy A. He's so passionate and caring, I wish I could have him the rest of my college years. So don't hesitate between professors if you have to take sociology, it's a no brainer
He is a great teacher. The quizzes are not hard at all, especially if you listen to his lectures and do the simple quiz study guides. I don't understand how he's not at a 4.5 rating or higher. You can definitely see his passion for sociology. Only way to not do that well in his class is not studying for his quizzes.
Great teacher, the lectures are very interesting and there are great discussions in class. No homework other than to study for quizzes and five one-page essays that are due on the last day of class. If you use the study guide you will pass the quizzes with an A. The midterm and final are just the quizzes combined. Super easy A.
Mr.Voelkl was an amazing professor, his course is very lecture heavy, and the tests are based solely on the lectures. There is not much homework throughout the course just a 5 part essay due at the end of the semester and assigned at the beginning. The only thing the textbook is used for is this assignment.
Dr. V has been my favorite professor at SCF. This class was very interesting and while it is lecture heavy, he always wants to include students in conversation and explain things well. The quizzes are important so make sure to use the study guides he provides and just pay attention in class. A very easy-A if you are willing to put in minimal work.
This class was a filler class for me but it ended up being my favorite class of the semester. Each lecture was interesting and Dr. V is exceptional at teaching and breaking things down in an understandable manner. His lectures are on the heavier side but all of the material is on canvas and the study guides are precise.
Amazing teacher. Super passionate about what he teaches. Has PowerPoint lectures that he makes interesting. Makes sure you understand the material and doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions. Definitely recommend.
Dr. V is a great professor. I never really took an interest to sociology, but he always made it understandable and interesting. Study guides are provided prior to all quizzes and exams, and clearly outlines the criteria that is need-to-know. I personally recommend him to anyone taking a sociology course!
An easy A course and professor. Even though he only grades the tests and the reflection paper, the quizzes are so easy and are the same as the study guide. His lectures are interesting and includes good examples. The only assignment other than quizzes is 3 reflection papers that are all due on the last day. Easy if you have other hard classes.
Great at giving good examples and explanations during lecture. No homework just a lot of studying.
10/10 recommend Dr.V he was a great professor. Lectures were not too painful! You have one assignment to write 3.. 300 word papers by the end of semester and 4 tests which he provides study guides for.
By far my favorite professor. He is very clear about what is on the tests, but you have to study to pass. Amazing lectures, definitely take notes. If you need a sociology class definitely take this one!
Dr. V is a great professor and his lectures are great and easy to understand. Definitely one of the best professors I've had
I can tell he loves teaching this course. The examples he offers for tricky subjects are really helpful. The 4 quizzes are very easy and not once was i bored during his lectures.
I loved this class. The lectures are very interesting. There are 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. The only homework was a reflection paper which was due at the end of the semester. I highly recommend taking Dr. V as your teacher.
Dr. V is great. There are only 3 papers you have to write (300 words each), 4 quizzes and the final. Sociology was a hard subject for me at least and what I learned the hard way is that don't memorize what's on the study guide. Know what it means then apply it to the question. He is a good teacher, funny and caring. I reccomend taking him!
No homework but you have to do well on the tests, his study guides are exactly whats on the test so if you know those you will pass, only down side is that he isnt the most interesting professor I've taken.
Please DO take Gary Voelkl's Sociology class. It is a very easy class to pass as long as you pay attention and do the study guides, and the professor himself is just so worth it. He knows exactly what he's talking about and never makes it boring. He's not strict and is a very easy-going guy. Don't take psychology, take sociology instead.
Why are there negative reviews on this Professor? While I am not a huge fan of the subject I quite liked Prof. Vokell. He set clear expectations for the class and he followed them. There were syllabuses pertaining to the tests with clear wording and subject material. He is passionate about the subject. If you take sociology he is a good professor.
Super nice guy, I felt bad like half the class was on their phones the whole time but it was very easy and straight forward
Super Easy Class!! Great teacher, got an A! Just study the study guides and you will pass the tests!!
Overall an amazing teacher. He explains the topics very well in his lectures and as long as you do the study guides, the tests are extremely easy!
He is a very good teacher. His lectures are enjoyable because he explains everything and knows what he is talking about. I never felt board in his class. If you take notes and do the study guides the quizzes won't be hard. I would definitely recommend taking sociology with him as your professor.
TAKE HIS SOCIOLOGY CLASS!! Literally one of the best professors I have ever had. He is a king! Very passionate and literally made me WANT to participate in class even thought it was not necessary at alll. Very little coursework and it was very easy and simple to complete.
He reads off his PowerPoint for his lectures and tends to read a bit slowly. If you pay attention, you really don't need notes since he makes study guides for every test and quiz. The only thing you'll use your textbook for is for 3 research questions that are due at the end of the semester ( very easy). Attendance is mandatory!
