Great teacher, and he loves what he teaches about. Very fun class.
He's got a very dry, but funny sense of humor. He's a great guy!!!

he is very good at what he does and you can tell he likes teaching students
he's pretty much hilarious!

He is very funny and the class is great! Everyone should take it!

Taught heueristics, then placed me in biased category himself.

Great teacher
Best lecture I've ever been too. Very entertaining and interesting material.
Great teacher, funny. Go to class, don't skip, little pop quizzes
Geez, what can I say about this guy that hasn't already been said? Incredible professor, knows his stuff, and presents in a way that is demanding yet will really get through to you. Watch out for those tests though...I love them but darn! They're h

wonderful prof. he made this class really intersting and very understandable
One of the most intelligent professors I have ever had. He didn't seem to be very approachable. Make sure and go to lecture because of those damn pop quizzes.
great professor. seems unapproachable but probably is not. a lot of fun in lectures, made my first semester at ISU enjoyable.

Awesome teacher, knows his stuff, famous for his witness ID research, but very modest about it.
GREAT instructor! One of the main reasons I switched to Psych as my primary major - very knowledgable. Pretty funny guy. Definitely take this course because of him.
He is a very good teacher and very distinguished in his area of study. I read his research and it was very interesting. He is also witty and makes the class fun.
THIS GUY IS A BADASS
Wow...this guy is just bleepin' incredible. By far the best class I've ever taken, so much that I find myself dropping in on his lectures even though I've already passed the course. He may conceited, but if I was him I would be too!! He's that good!
Intelligent and friendly guy. Makes class interesting and knows his stuff. Watch for him in the videos...
A very nice guy, a very interesting lecturer, and a very easy class.
Go to class, take a few notes, read the book, and the tests are easy! Seems like a cool guy, I liked the video's he showed in class of him on Oprah, Good Morning America (I think) and a few other well publicized shows, that's how well known he is
Even for non-Psych majors who just want a fun, 3-credit class - take Psychology 280 with Gary Wells. Read the book (which isn't bad at all), take a few notes, and take the reasonably easy tests. Awesome class, hilarious professor.
I thought this class was good at times, but I didn't like him as a teacher...It was better when the other prof. took over half way though the year. Much better after that.
Wells is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes his lectures really interesting and you learn a lot. He's also funny.
Wells is one of those pompous professors that you hear about that don't care about the students or the teaching but only the research. He is just there to promote his books and his TV spots. He is the worst professor I ever had in my college career.
He is a little full of himself. But, is still overall a good professor. He is NOT interested in helping students so don't ask to work in his lab cause he is not even interested in his RAs. But he does make the class a lot of fun.
Wells was an ok teacher, I was glad when Madon came in half way to take over the class. He promoted his TV career and books a LOT! i didn't care for his attitude when i asked for help though.I asked him only one question and he was very unhelpful, almost upset that i even asked him a question.
He knows his stuff. He makes it seem easy, but come exam time, you'll realize it's not so easy. Funny guy, but he needs to get his head out of his @$$.

This guy is pompous--AND I LOVE IT!! Going to class isn't just something to be done but a mystical experience. Sure, he's full of himself, but very brilliantly so and by far my favorite professor here.
Wells is a very clear and interesting teacher. Pay attention and definitely read your books. The tests aren't too easy or too difficult. Anyone can get a B, but I had to work for my A. He is great and very approachable. I talked to him several times and he never seemed pompous to me.
One of the best profs I have had, lectures are interesting and helpful
i thought he was hilarious. yeah hes full of himself a little, but i thought it was funny. this was the best lecture ive taken.
he's cocky, but rightfully so. anyone that whine about this needs to get thicker skin. do the reading, go to those ever-amusing lectures, and you should be fine
Lectures are interesting, he really knows what he is talking about. Go to lecture to fill out the notes completely, as the test is part note based and part book.
gary is probably the best psych professor at iowa state
He made this class fun and if you go to class and take notes you wont have any problems with the tests... Its an awesome class!
He showed us Janet Jackson's boob after the super bowl
Awesome professor
Sexy. this guy is a total stud. his class is awesome take it for sure.
Wells is a cool guy and he's hilarious. Go to class. If you do not take notes, start or listen and remember everything. Read the book. Tests are hard, but if all the readings and notes are done, you should be fine.
Awesome instructor. Makes the class fun and interesting.
makes lecture very interesting, has great stories. take this class!

Best psych class ever. Just pay attention, the material isn't that hard to understand.
Dr. Wells is possibly the most exciting instructor I've ever had. He really makes the material pop, and provides tons of practical, real-world examples for the theories he's lecturing about. His tests can be a pain, but if you study the notes, and have read the book, you should be ok. Anytime something appears in both, study it.
Dr. Wells is a ****. Tests are hard but you will catch a good curve. Take him
by far one of the hardest classes i have taken, but it was also very rewarding. i learne d a ton and i remembered it. he has great example and is very interesting. take this class and take it with him.
He is very conceited. He is extremely knowledgeable, but very arogant.

I hardly think he's arrogant or conceited. His research matters and makes a difference and he knows it. His sense of humor is very dry and sarcastic...I love it! He can be intimidating, but he's really very friendly if you go to his office hours.
arrogant, narcicistic, so full of himself it's sickeing. If you wish to worship at the altar of Wells you're gold, if not you're an annoyance to be tollerated.
I agree that he's good teacher and a funny guy. His research is very important. I think that it's hard for anyone who is as successful as he is, not to be arrogant
Gary wells is the man. Very intelligent with Dry Humor. Tests were hard, but curve was respectable. Do the readings for Wells, and you can pull an easy B. Need to work for the A as in any class.
Taking his class gave me my idea & reassurance of what I wanted to do when I grew up!! Seriously, he's the most interesting prof. I've had. Although, his tests are a little on the hard side, but from experience that's how all psych tests go. I took 280 as a freshman & I want to take it again now, 2 years later.
He was really boring the first half and became interesting the second half. btw he has a really annoying voice.
Gary Wells is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He made the class fun and interesting; I have never learned so much in one class.
He is stuck up and has every reason to be, because he one of the smartest people at ISU. listen to him in class and you can ace the tests, especially after you ride the curve
very smart, must read book to do well on test, dry sense of humor, very good teacher, very knowledgable
Great teacher with a nice sense of humor. Knows exactly what he's talking about. Moderately difficult exams, but if you listen in class you'll do fine.
Good class, good professor. Read your book in this class because it's hard to get by without it. Dr. Wells is very clear, entertaining at times, and does a good job of explaining the subject, even if you don't do well on his tests I think you can still learn a lot from this class.
I thought Dr. Wells was great. He kept class interesting, had great anecdotes, careful presentations, funny comments, etc. This is a class you actually have to attend and be sure to read the chapters. Tests are fine that way. I'll never forget him singing/dancing to RESPECT by Aretha Franklin, ha ha.If you are interested in the subject, go for it.
Dr. Wells was wonderful, althought Dr. Madon was easier I thought Dr. Wells was more interesting. He made class fun. His tests were easy as long as your read the book & attend lecture.
Great professor, esp. if you like his sense of humor. His tests are noticeably more difficult than Stephanie's (I think the class avg was about 10% higher on her tests), but they are not terribly difficult. The material is interesting, and he presents it in a very accessible way.
Not gonna lie, the tests are way hard, but he is an absolutely awsome instructor! Made class interesting enough to keep me coming back class after class. Very funny as well and excellent at putting things we need to learn into terms and scenerios we could easily relate to and understand. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
The test are super hard but awesome guy! He is very straight forward and he won't sugar coat anything! He's accomplished a lot with his studies, so you really are learning from the best.
He's a great teacher, really funny. Lectures work well with the textbook. His specialty is eyewitness identification.
Really interesting teacher. Lectures were actually good to go to. Tests were challenging. Overall good professor.
wells is a good teacher. funny guy. the absolute best in his field. his tests are difficult, but definately manageable. hes kind of a prick if you have to take a test out of class.
All though the tests in this class aren't easy Wells is a great professor. Shows good character in class. I can remember him trying to sing like Aretha Franklin during one of the lectures, needless to say he can be amusing. If you read the book and attend lectures you should be able to get a decent grade in this class.
I loved this class. Wells is a great professor and I actually enjoyed going to lecture. The exams really aren't that hard. Make sure to keep up on the readings and attend class. Listen closely to the real-world examples he gives.. they show up on the tests. Study an equal amount from the lecture notes and from the book and you will do well.
Wells is only the teacher for half the class, however he is an amazing professor! I learned so much and he kept his lectures very interesting! Pop-quizzes so go to class! Pay attention and read the book and you will be fine! Tests are kinda difficult, but definitely managable! Great professor!!
Amazing professor. Made class interesting every day.
Great professor! Reason I declared Psychology as my major.
Very interesting teacher.
Brilliant and hilarious teacher, though he mumbles occasionally. Tests aren't too bad if you study what you're told to, and previous interest in the subject area will definitely help.
Very clear and understandable, and enthusiastic about teaching the material. :)
Like most people, I took this class just to get another GenEd requirement out of the way, and was pleasantly surprised. Very entertaining and informative lectures, great sense of humor, and is apparently somewhat of a minor celebrity.
He likes to entertain his students with unexpected jokes. His lectures are a little annoying because he gives too many examples to make his point. He likes to put tricky questions on exams. If you email him, expect an informal reply. If you verbally ask him a question, expect him to be short with you.
Really funny guy. Showed a clip from an episode of 60 Minutes where he was interviewed and was rather bashful when he appeared on screen.
Gary Wells is the man. his lectures are really interesting,so when it came time to study i remembered almost everything. tests are really tough though, READ THE BOOK
You need to read nearly all the textbook. 3 pop quizzes before each exam. His tests are multiple choice and he seems to love the "none of the above" and "all of the above" options which means you really need to know your stuff. His lecture is incredibly entertaining and informative. I highly, highly recommend this class.
The tests are quite difficult and require a lot of studying. There is a pretty big curve that can bring you up an entire letter grade, though. Extra credit is also allowed! He was an awesome professor, though he only taught half of the class. He was very fun to listen to and made all of the concepts very clear!
Loved having him as a teacher, wish he would have been the teacher the whole semester. His test are difficult and he pulls a lot of questions from the book that he doesn't talk about in class so it is helpful to read and know vocab. He makes the class very interesting.
He was a great teacher! Fun to listen to, made interesting points. He uses the textbook a lot, with 3 quizzes before each exam and asking exam questions that he didn't cover in class, so make sure you keep up on the reading. His test questions tend to be really long so make sure you really know your stuff, otherwise the exams are tough.
Amazing teacher! Fun to listen too, and curves class. Textbook is actually very interesting and easy to read.
I really liked having Dr. Wells as a teacher. He made the material very interesting by giving many examples that caught your attention. I wasn't a fan of the class over all but he helped make it better for me!
Took Psych 201 with Dr. Wells, and it was great. He's an amazing lecturer. Unfortunately I had some trouble with his tests, but I managed to pull out with busting my butt and extra credit, of which there is plenty. He also grades on the standard distribution, which helped me. Overall I hope to work with him again sometime in the future.
Wells is amazing! He's incredibly educated and his lectures are amazing to listen to. I'd be lying if I didn't say I have a weird little crush on him.
He kept me entertained from during the lectures and I think that I learned a lot. His examples really helped me. He makes lots of jokes and adds in interesting things to keep people involved. Reading the text book is a must for the quizzes and tests.
He is truly passionate about what he teaches, and not only that but he wants you to care as well. Wells makes it interesting and you learn a lot of information that is applicable to your everyday life. He has a really sarcastic and blunt sense of humor that makes for a funny and entertaining learning environment. I really loved this class!
I took Social Psych with him and it was the hardest class I've taken so far. He makes the exams incredibly difficult and rambles during his lectures. He also gives way too many examples on one specific term and falls behind in his lectures. He is really funny and makes tons of jokes but the class as a whole was hard with him as the professor.
Professor Well is one of my favorite professors. The lectures are very interesting and you can really learn a lot. There are clicker questions during every lecture so coming to class is necessary. If you come to class, you will most likely pass the class!
Tests are super hard. Good lecturer, but can be hard to keep attention. Must read the book word by word to answer the super specific questions on the tests.
Very Knowledgeable about what he talks about. Definetly would love to take another class with him. Language is modern and fresh. Plays music before class to keep things fresh.
Super long lectures that weren't always really interesting. He's a super modern teacher though, and very relatable. He has tough tests that are half reading, half lecture based questions so you have to put in a lot of time to the class!
Lectures are interesting but long, Dr. Wells sense of humor is good. Tested on material from lecture and book every day plus on tests so keep up with the readings! Graded by how well you do relative to your class . Really not a bad professor at all
Gary is awesome! His lectures are always funny and interesting. He really knows what he is talking about and is famous in his field. If you read you should do fine. He is very clear about grading and what will be on tests. Really recommend!!
Best professor I've ever had. You need to go to lectures and never skip, but to be honest you won't want to skip anyway. You need to actually study for the exams and put some effort in, but the material is so interesting and so well taught it's fairly easy. The entire class gets curved at the end of the semester, and then he adds extra credit in.
The lectures are really interesting and engaging. You really have to know your stuff to score well on the tests.
The class is split between two professors. Dr Wells is the first instructor. He's an alright guy and he knows his stuff. He tries to engage the students and is pretty entertaining the class is easy enough to pass if you go to class everyday and pay attention, taking good notes. You have to know your stuff to pass the exams.
there is no homework Extra credit is possible and fun He has no filter really overall an amazing class
Very good teacher, just make sure you actually study for the exams and do the readings.
Dr. Wells is awesome. His lectures are interesting and he's funny as hell!
Great professor, absolutely hilarious, makes lectures enjoyable.
Gary Wells is easily one of the best, if not the best, lecturers at ISU. He has a very dry sense of humor, which appeals to most college students, and is very good at telling stories that are practical and relate to the material. I absolutely loved this class, it was so cool! You HAVE to read the textbook to do well in the class. 10 SONA required.
Gary is fantastic. Though the lectures are long they are never dull. Want to attend class (half the testing questions are lecture material and the other half are from the reading). He also does 3 point quizzes at the beginning of each lecture and you receive one point just for going. Very interesting material with incredible teaching.
Gary Wells is a great professor and I would highly recommend taking this course. Not only is the material extremely interesting so is the professor. Wells also has very great credentials as he has been a guest expert on shows like 60 minutes and even Oprah! Overall, he is very qualified and interesting and I highly recommend this class.
In order to do well in one of his classes, you must actually read the textbook and pay attention during lectures. Sometimes a couple days before he has a test he will hold a review section, which I would highly recommend going to.
The exams were somewhat correlated to the in class material. The tests are so difficult that class average is usually about 68%. That's way too low to be a good teacher.
Hes a great professor and really fun to listen to. He cares a lot about his students. Make sure to do the reading and come to class because the test is heavy on both and not everything is covered in lectures. The tests arent bad if you know the vocabulary and have done the reading.
Gary Wells is a great guy. It's cool because he is a creditable source . He was on Oprah! The lectures are so interesting for this class, and I honestly learned so much. Most of the test material is spoon-fed to you, but doing the reading is an easy A.
Lectures on different material than read in the text book, which makes reading the textbook a must, as you are tested on the lectures given in class as well as the textbook assigned readings. Class was really interesting over all.
Often rude to students. Seems to enjoy feeling special. Tries to shock the class. Uses prestige in university to force attention.
Good professor if you don't mind hearing "uh" up to 20 times per minute.
I took Social Psych with Wells as an elective. He's a very credible and knowledgeable professor, being a guest on 60 Minutes and Oprah. His lectures are very interesting and he has a relatable sense of humor. Make sure you read the book and go to class; there are quizzes every lecture and exam topics from the book not covered in lecture.
Gary Wells is awesome. A little arrogant, but he's earned it. He communicates the ideas well. Every semester he spends a day showing the time he was on 60 minutes. He's a hoot. Study hard for the tests, they matter the most. Max out your SONA extra credit, that will raise your grade 2/3rds of a letter grade.
Uses the bell curve so if you aren't in the top 20%, you will be getting around a C+. Easy to pass but hard to get a good grade in. He's a fun professor but a hard grader.
loved this professor, lots of material to intake, but Wells does an awesome job making the class fascinating and something you want to attend.
Gary Wells is an amazing professor. I always looked forward to his lectures. The exams weren't too bad as long as you go to class and read the book. His lectures are nice because he gives powerpoints that you just fill in the blanks during lecture. It makes getting all the info really easy.
Dr. Wells is one of the most interesting professors I have ever had. He made class enticing and more often than not enjoyable. The test where hard if you didn't do the readings, but beside that, he is simply enjoyable.
Professor Wells and Professor Hessling are both great. With Wells you do not get as much help, but the way he gets the message through is very effective! Do not mess lecture and read the textbook (very interesting though), and do the EC!
His lectures can be very dense with material but engaging none-the-less. Exams can be hard if you didn't read the book as well. He always slips in a few these he didn't touch on in the lectures. Great professor
Wells is a solid professor. His lectures are heavy but still engaging none-the-less. His exams were moderate in difficultly, but as long as you read the textbook and pay attention to lectures, you should be okay.
his lectures were all recorded&he really tried to make them entertaining&they were. he is very smart&knows a lot about psych. the lecture videos were very long but easy to follow. only thing is that there are only weekly 6 point quizzes & the tests so make sure to study so you don't fall behind quick & do the weekly quiz they make a difference.
Trust me, you want to take a class with Dr. Wells. He is the single most inspiring and motivating not only professor but person I have had the chance to meet. I was hooked from his first lecture. He will get you to think in ways you never have before. His courses are worth any amount of time and work.
One of the only courses I've ever taken where I look forward to the lectures.
Wells is literally the funniest guy Ive ever met. If you dont read the textbook or go to class, you wont get a good grade. His lectures were always engaging and made the class fun. I would love going to class just to hear him make jokes. Absolutely hilarious guy. Tests are hard but if you read the textbook & listen in class, you will do fine.
I wouldnt recommend Professor Wells if you struggle to understand complex topics. He can be very rude and make hurtful remarks. His tests are the hardest Ive ever taken.
I love this man. How to do good in this class? READ and take good in-depth notes on the reading. His tests are 50% lecture and 50% reading. Put in the time and you'll do fine. Also extra credit with sona. Really inspirational guy and makes you love psych. Would not recommend this class if you aren't passionate about psych though.
Great lecture. He loves his work. Very respected in the community. Reading helps follow lectures. Understanding with late homework. He really takes his job seriously and you can tell he's a master of his craft and loves to teach it. Exam heavy, but good notes and reading of a few chapters will make them a breeze.
Wells was a truly great lecturer that kept you engaged. There weren't any real surprises on the test or quizzes. You don't even need to read the whole textbook. Just take notes of underlined vocab and listen to lectures. It's really easy to study as well. Just make terms flashcards on quizlet. A little work and you should get an A easy.
Loved wells just not the class. Lectures made sense but then the quizzes & exams were nothing like we learned in class.
I didn't not particularly enjoy this professor and would not take a class from him again. Couldn't answer questions when I had them and really didn't care about his students. He knows that he is good, and it shows. Overall he is okay but not my favorite.
His lectures are entertaining and I learned a lot. Half of the information on the tests are from the reading.
Great professor, his lectures were entertaining, and he played music before classes. Do the readings and take notes in class, study the quizzes and you will do well on exams. The extra credit boosts your grade greatly. Students rating him poorly for this class were likely lazy and didn't want to put in the minimal effort to study.
