Great teacher!
Great teacher, very helpful. Will go out of his way to help you understand.
Nicely teaching and laid back. Has a good sense of humor and knows when to release some tension in the class with a joke.
Always helpful, makes going to a math class fun. Attendance is not mandatory, liek any college class but you get extra points for showing up to class. Extremely fair and will always help you. Great personality and is always making the class laugh. Extremely helpful..
Mr. Winchester is a very good teacher. He jokes around alot which helps make not only the class fun but math as well. He explains everything very clearly and shows how to do things alot esaier then the book shows. If you are looking for a good math teacher I would choose Mr. Winchester.
Good professor,Had been a while since I had any algebra courses. Professor Winchester goes through all material and keeps the pace going. You must do homework to stay on top of things. He is thorough and will open to answering questions. Definitely made course interesting and was available with clear office hours, was also available by e-mail.
Found it easy- if you have prior algebra experience will be a review
Gary is very available to answer questions - even at times that you don't expect him to be. In class, he's a good communicator, making most lessons easy to understand. You need to do the homework to get a good understanding of the subject.
Good teacher but doesn't always stay on track. this causes a jam up at the end of the semester. give less definition and more examples which would help most students
He's a good guy and he explains everything very well. Attendance is mandatory but he understands if you miss a class or two. All in all he's a really great teacher.
Best math teacher i ever had. Extremely fun class and very helpful. Helps you understand things so quickly. I really suggest this teacher for anyone even if its not math ahah
easy teacher to take class all take home only one final in class .........
Easy going class, very laid back professor. Do your homework to keep up with things and ask questions if you don't understand and you will be fine. He is very helpful and wants everyone to do well. Do your work and it will be an easy A.
Gary teaches class remembering what it was like being a student. He's a great guy that's happy to help however he can, explains the material clearly, and genuinely wants his students to succeed. He's always happy to joke around too, in or out of class, but doesn't let it take over too class time. One of the best math teachers I've ever had.
He rocks!
A very kind and patient person who will work with you until you understand the math. Also offers up office time to give extra help as well. He ultimately wants to see his students be successful.
OMG Mr.Winchester is AMAZINGGGGGG ! He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had . I recommend him on all levels. Easy to talk to , more then willing to go the extra mile to help you out . It was my privalege to attend his class and have him as my teacher.
By far the best math teacher I have ever had. He will work with you to help you understand what is going on, both numerically and conceptually. His minimal use of the calculator forces students to actually learn the material--which is very helpful. Complete ALL of the homework assignments, ask questions and you should get anywhere from a B to an A.
awesome. took him sum 1 and the class is hard but he is the best and here's why: 1. stays after or will come in before to help students. 2. offers extra credit. 3. completely prepares you for tests. 4. has a great attitude. 5. is just an amazing teacher. would take him again in a second
I personally didn't care much for this professor. He showed up late for every class, doesn't show up for a meeting regarding class questions, and doesn't curve his tests. His in class conversations are funny, but i don't think it makes up for the lack of help available.
an excellent teacher for those who do and dont love math. I withdrew from the class because the pace and workload was too much for a summer course. Gives a lot of homework
Great teacher. fair grading. Don't take him for short summer sessions, he's too lazy and you will loose a lot. You will have to work a lot on your own. For fall or Spring sessions he's the king of math. He really knows his stuff.
I was extremely intimidated by the course initially but Winchester made it easy to manage the content and amount of work; assigns crazy amts of hw just do what you can and be sure to review the practice exams on blackboard; definitely a good choice; i recommend!
Excellent Professor! Very intelligent and explains very well. His class is barely boring as well; very funny guy.
Great teacher!!! Would highly recommend him. He is very smart and funny. Class is never boring. Always willing to give extra help and stay after class. Truly, a wonderful teacher!
Awesome professor... really knows his stuff well, and his classes are never boring. I have taken both pre-cal I and II through him and I can honestly say that he's one of the best math teachers I've ever had. One advice though... DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! Most questions on his tests are very similar to the ones found in your homework.
Excellent Professor! I just finished my second semester with him and he was more than helpful. He always stays after class and is willing to help as long as you take the time to ask questions. If you ask questions and do all the homework that's assigned in a timely manner, you'll likely do well in this class.
He was a very helpful teacher. He had lots of available time for students to come in and ask questions or to receive extra help.
the hybrid course that uses my math lab xl/course compass is awesome, he re-enfored everything from the book and from the online homeworks and quizes. he always stayed until all questions were answered. nice handwriting too!
Very good teacher, explains things clearly, but you MUST do homework, do not SLACK off and wait til the last minute.....most of the homework problems are similar to exam problems....Great!
Very helpful at all times. Made everything very clear whenever you didn't understand something. Helped me be very successful in math. I thank him for that and I recommend him to anyone that needs or wants to take this class!
Gary is a very nice guy, laid back and funny. But unlike the other reviews, I didn't find him that helpful and didn't do well in his class. It could be that it was hybrid and only saw him once a week. He only kept us for about 30 minutes. I was looking for a great math teacher, not a friend. I felt lost the whole semester.
Great guy, always helpful. I wish I had less than 5 classes this semester so I could focus on his more. Over all, very nice and realistic=)
Gary walked into class introduced himself and started lecturing right away. Ins and outs of what was expected. BORING!!! Let me tell you how wrong I was... He is funny and interesting and has the patience of a saint. DO NOT EVER FEEL LIKE YOU'RE ALONE. ASK QUESTIONS. They will get answered. He is a phenomenal teacher and great person.
Great guy, always helpful. Willing to go the extra step to help the student learn the topic. Gary was fare in grading and in expectation. Over all, very nice and realistic. I am an engineering major. I would be happy if all my classes were tought by Gary.
Teacher is very upfront, reasonable, and helpful. My MathLab is very helpful when taking this course. DO NOT TAKE if you are not well self-taught, or have a tendency to cheat.
I think his teaching style works very well for a math class. He does not do 30 math problems in a class like some teachers. He will do 1 or 2 examples very slowly step by step making sure you understand it, this allows students to ask questions they have or even leave early if they feel they really understand the material.
Gary was so nice! I felt bad because people NEVER came to class. But, anytime I had a question, he was more than willing to break down the problems.
Og gary! I could go on and on about how I loved being in his class. Gary was great. I hated math prior to attending his class. I'm an adult student whom has beed out of school for 12 years. Gary made this class enjoyable and easy. His desire to teach math is amazing and he is willing to help you every step of the way. Take Gary for Math!!!!!
my first teacher at montco... in 2010. He is a very outgoing nice guy. Everyone attended class and lots of participation. I talked to him a lot... but there were definately teachers pet....
Professor Winchester is an excellent instructor. He style of teaching is "crystal clear," and he's very passionate about math. He's very animated in his delivery and he really cares about his students. You couldn't ask for a more compassionate instructor.
As a future Math major, I was very happy with this class. The content was clearly explained but the tests were rough. I feel like I was well prepared to move on to a Math series at any 4-year school and not be overwhelmed. As mentioned elsewhere: DO ALL OF THE HOMEWORK!!! The tests are killer and I did not do ALL the homework early in the term.
Its obvious that we don't know one millionth of one percent about anything. -Thomas Edison
The Best Professor at Montco cannot get better then this guys, gary u d man.....actually makes math intresting,i used to hate math but this guy makes u learn and understand math and even helps u after class whenever needed him..one thing do not wait to take his class go ahead and just enroll u would be glad u took him.
if you take him online everthing is open book but you have to study for the midterm and the final
Took him online, great teacher. Always answers emails in a timely manner and always willing to help. I experienced a lot of computer trouble during the semester and he was always willing to redo due dates for me. Had to take the mid term and the final on campus. Do not need the book, just buy online codes if taking class online, the online software is very hands on.
took him my first semester, very easy, he is helpful to a point. if you want to fly by take him
Mr. Winchester is by far the best professor! I hate math and even failed it the first time, but retaking it with him helped me a lot. I passed with a C! Which is great for me. Take him, u won't be disappointed!
I am an L&D specialists and my recommendation is to stay away! Professor is on a power trip about Calculators... Does not allow TI 83 or 84 during tests- He has masters in Math (and believes that you should walk on water with math to "earn" a grade). Dude its an associates degree not even bachelors. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Professor Winchester is a very funny and easy going professor. He made attending class fun and inviting. The class and the exams were not difficult IF you did ALL of the homework. Not just the homework that was turned in, but ALL of the problems he recommended.
more than 11 students dropped out from class in the end of semester, now think before do something
he is going to erase all ur data from calc before the test, after the end of semester u dont even know how to use calc, because prof. is not a grt fan of calc, so he is not going to show u how to use it, if u go in engineering or phy class, u might wonder, how can i be the only one who doesnt know how to do this problem in calc &everybody knows it?
Love this guy! More than willing to help a student who asks. I had him for calc 1 and 2 and I feel very prepared for future classes. Be warned, he's not easy, but very straight forward. I would highly recommend him, especially for students that require high level math courses. For all intents and purposes he's pretty funny too.
I took it as a hybrid class and had to withdrawal. You have to be very focused and willing to learn on your own at times. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Horrible class. Didn't learn a thing. Everyone cheated on every test. Teacher was not helpful or insightful to any of the lessons. Canceled classes and didn't tell students. Waste of my time and money taking this class. He knows his stuff but does not know how to teach.
dude is the man! Do the homwork. All the questions from the homwork will be seen again on test and quizes. Good class. I have taken the hybrid as well but do no recommend that. To much time on your own part to learn
This was for the hybrid class so I can't speak for Gary otherwise. I found it confusing and lacking engagement. Gary was helpful in answering questions and helping students, but the class lacked due to the online aspect. Lectures were pre-recorded and filled with errors, making questions and clarity difficult. I didn't take any skills away from it.
He was not helpful at all and took massive points off for using different techniques other than his preferred method. He discourages calculator use and deducts points for it as well even though this is the 21st century. Ironically he is lazy in grading. Would not recommend him.
i was take his MAT161, TOO many homework ,but he never check it. he will pick up some question from homework to the quiz. if you can do homework well you will be get A easily ..
I take most classes Online and have taken Online classes at other schools. I am 44 and this is my first F ever; no class discussion assignments, no interaction with other students and the only "instruction" other than a poorly edited text book, was the professor who posted videos of himself solving problems with no teaching. Also, posts late a lot
Going to tutoring definitely helps a lot. I wish I could have taken an actual class instead of online. It would also be a million times better if homework helped towards the grade.
Teacher was nice and funny, but very absent minded. Would forget to post lecture videos to study from and then post them last minute. To do well in this class I re commend doing ALL the HW and take home quizzes. Also during lectures he goes quickly, would do 3 - 4 sections in one 4 hour class. This class was A LOT of work & effort, I did get an A!
Gary is a great professor, but tough. He makes himself available to students anyway he can. As stated by him(and me) to pass the class you have to do the homework and occasionally ask questions. Most of his class is straight forward just check all the content he posts and you'll do fine.
He was not very professional in email communication with students. If you have a PhD you should not use text message lingo. I would not recommend this professor to other students.
Took online in accelerated semester, and found that the text book required is full of errors, which makes teaching yourself difficult. Teacher's recorded lectures are not very helpful and also full of errors. He is a very slow grader and emailed questions are returned with a curt response, almost to the point of rude. I don't recommend!
This professor was pretty terrible. I turned in all work on time and bought outside materials to teach myself since his work and the textbook were full of mistakes. He is extremely slow with grading and does not turn in final grades on time. The final also was shown to be worth 400 points on the syllabus then said 150 on the actual packet.
do not take this man. I do not know how he still works here. took him and ended up withdrawing. gave him the benefit of the doubt and retook him the next semester and he failed me. final and midterm are worth 70% of your grade. first time I have ever done poorly in math. videos are vague and unclear. expects you to know advanced problems.
He provides lectures online but he doesn't really explain what he is doing. There were multiple times through-out the semester I had to Google something or ask one of my friends for help. I would get 100% on homework when answers weren't correct with no feedback and I would get slammed on the test because I didn't do the steps correctly.
Professor Winchester is a challenging professor; but I did learn a hell of a lot from him. A lot of homework but the problems will usually show up with different values on the exam; the method forces you to understand how to handle various problems and I found it very effective. If you ever need help, he is a very approachable guy.
Do your homework and dont miss class. Otherwise you wont pass his class.
He is a very tough grader, which wouldn't be a big deal if he held his teaching up to the same standards. Had to wait an hour at the testing center for a test which should've been there. online lectures are a joke. Straight A student somehow failed despite knowing material fairly well. unprofessional, no pride in his teaching, waste of time/money
No one will get bored in the class because he is funny and engaging. He is tough but can learn a lot of math. Always ready to help if asked. In 1st test I did terrible but later I worked hard and did better. He says he is not a "spoon-feeder". MAKE SURE to READ the TEXTBOOK. DO HW. TO learn and work hard he is a good choice .
I took Gary's hybrid class and it was a straight up joke. He makes at least 10 mistakes in every video and would show up 20 minutes late for class. seems like a nice enough guy but is NOT a good teacher. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSES!
I took Gary for Hybd MAT106. If lower level math is easy for you, this is a great class. Served as a refresher for what I learned in high school, very very light work load. Easy A. Goes over homework in class, late work is not a problem, attendance is not mandatory and every class ends early!
Awesome! Proffered one of the best.
Really funny guy BUT gets distracted too much. Over the 2 hr class we spend 1 hr hearing more of his personal life than actual math. Towards the end of the semester had to crammed a whole chapter and missed a unit. Basically taught myself all the material. Doesn't remind you of quizzes and he takes off for the smallest. Curses a lot. Loads of hw.
He is funny and entertaining in class, but when test time comes he is extremely picky grader and assigns homework for subjects he didn't go over!
DO NOT TAKE HIM, avoid at all costs! He is a terrible grader, you learn absolutely nothing from him, and he is SO lazy with getting your grades back. He is not understanding of life circumstances, and his teaching standards don't nearly match how hard he grades. I don't even understand how he still has a job he's so bad. Don't waste your money.
Winchester is a funny dude that's smart as hell. He'll give you the tools to succeed, simply do the homework. I'd take him again, super enjoyable to have a class with. Class isn't easy, even though it's only Pre-calc; however, very possible to succeed in.
I think Gary expects you to teach yourself the course. He spends a lot of the class making jokes and being sarcastic rather than talking about the material. Because I took the hybrid class we only met once or twice a week and stayed for like 20 minutes tops. He will only explain things if you ask him. Take him if you have a good math background.
meh... There are better options. The level of difficulty of the homework/lectures does not correspond to the level during a test. He doesn't explain much but expects you to show the deep understanding of a topic. It's not how one is supposed to teach.
Would not recommend!
This guy has no consideration or plan whatsoever. He posts all the work and assignments late and expects you to just understand the material with no guidance. I took this class as a summer class online expecting it to flow easy, but instead was so beyond stressful. He waited to post my midterm grade a week before the final. NO CONSIDERATION AT ALL.
Winchester is very caring and willing to help students. He jokes around, answers questions thoroughly, and encourages student engagement. The only thing I didn't like is that every single homework question is used guides for tests, but once you get used to his system it gets easier to do well. Testing procedure aside, he is great!
If you want to have a professor who is focussed, organised, and makes sure hes doing the math right, dont enroll into his classes. He tells the most worthless stories that absolutely no one cares about and he thinks hes funny when hes just irritating and childish. He zooms through the material and skips steps when explaining. Wouldnt recommend
Waste of time and money. The material isnt hard but he doesnt really teach you anything so be ready to teach yourself .
I would not recommend. Lectures are all over the place with stories and work, with most of the work done in his head without explanation. Homework is online and all over the place with where it is and when it is due. All homework and tests take about 3 or 4 weeks to grade.
Good Professor. A lot of take home tests if you request
I would not recommend him to anyone. He expects you to basically teach your self and during lecture he tells stories half the time while the other half of the time he just breezes through the material without any direction. Overall he is very disorganized and just seems like he doesnt care
This class was hard to pass considering that Gary takes FOREVER to grade things and speeds through the material as if he expects you to know it. You MUST do the textbook problems and take-home quizzes to pass, simple as that. Corona saved my grade tbh
He is the worst by far I didnt learn anything from him I had to teach myself everything and he take very long to grade anything and when you Email him expect not to get an answer and he grades so hard all I am saying is good luck taking him.
Lectures aren't much like the quiz questions. I had to go to outside sources, like Khan Academy, in order to fully grasp the concepts. Very slow grader; didn't get quizzes back before tests. Make sure your format is just like his. He does respond to emails fairly quickly and had the schedule laid out from the beginning.
Pros: -Seems like a guy Id wanna hang out with Cons: -Barely speaks English in online lectures -Notes are nothing like the quizzes which are nothing like the tests -Takes away points a lot even if your answer is correct (he needs your work to be exactly how he wants it even though he doesnt teach it) -Slowest grader Ive ever seen
I had Gary for online summer MATH201 and he was not very good at responding to emails and provided vague answers when I asked for help on the homework. He was also an EXTREMELY slow grader; I didn't get half of my assignments graded till we were 70% done the semester. If you take this class, expect to teach yourself everything.
Good teacher.
Don't take if at all possible. Slow grader, takes off multiple points for little mistakes. Lectures are usually uploaded the day that assignments/quizzes are due, and don't do a good job explaining the material. Expect to teach yourself the material. Most of the class is conducted on the textbook website.
I took calc two twice and it was awful, he would talk 50% of the class about nonsense and maybe, 35% class content, and 15% It was crickets. He was fairly condescending, which is a shame because he wasnt a bad guy but certainly not tuned to teach efficiently. Knows what hes doing and talking about but getting him to teach was like pulling teeth.
1/10 would not recommend. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy, but he just can't teach online. He uploads lectures a day before the assignment is due and the notes aren't the most helpful. His lectures don't even cover all the content necessary for the homework assignments. If you already know the information that's the only way you'll pass this class.
The pre recorded lectures don't cover all the material that is assigned in the quizzes or homework. If you take this class be prepared to spend hours teaching yourself the material and a careless proffesor who takes months to grade a single assignment. The only way to pass this class is if you already know the material, I would highly avoid.
Lectures are pointless, he doesn't teach you much at all. You will have to teach yourself 95% of the time. He will sometimes post the work for the week 2-3 days after it's supposed to be assigned. 1/10 would NOT recommend.
Really crappy teacher. After purchasing two required textbooks and not using them, we were required to purchase an additional $96.00 access code for a website with our assignments on it. He never taught a lecture and his notes were very messy. Never returned emails, truly a horrible teacher.
I think his online course was good. He didn't grade exceptionally harshly, and I could email and get a prompt response. I have a math learning disability and he was exceptional in his feedback and accommodations.
I had him for precalc, and holy cow this dude does not know how to teach, He just goes through a sheet of problems and there's like two problems per concept so we had no range in terms of problem-solving. he never mentioned office hours and seems to criticize students for not understand a concept he didn't explain. He takes forever to grade as well
Surprised he has so many good reviews to say the least. Winchester's a nice guy, but a horrible teacher. Never used the textbook and his notes were a disorganized mess. Class is comprised of him doing practice problems (usually incorrectly) on the board with no explanation. HW and tests are graded HARSHLY. Do things EXACTLY how he wants or fail.
Super disorganized and takes forever to grade assignments. If you want to learn anything in his class you will have to teach yourself 95% of the material. His lectures aren't really lectures, he just does example problems on the board at his own pace (which is extremely quick) and only ever stops to explain something if you specifically ask him.
In my experience, this course was not well executed by the professor. I constantly had to remind him to post lectures, which were the only mode that the professor taught. This was very frustrating because I just ended up having to teach myself all of the content. This was not something I wanted for a math course as high level as Linear Algebra.
Homework isn't graded so the tests and quizzes are the main thing. You HAVE to do homework to succeed. He recommends it but just do it. He even says how he uses the same questions on tests and quizzes. Ask questions!! He often can move quickly but is always open to questions or misunderstandings. He also tends to talk about random things unrelated.
Stay AWAY from this instructor (NOT A PROFESSOR). HORRIBLE! Does not want to see his students successful. Why MCCC keeps this clown is beyond me. So many students withdrew from this class.
In general your left to fend on your own ULTILIZE THE TUTORS when confused they are so helpful towards the end of the course when he doesn't really give any notes. Also he is one of the slowest graders I've ever seen
Awful teacher, Did not help students better understand the topics. He would be late to class the majority of the time and would not attend class and teach it online.
He so bad he not tech first of all, and he's quiz is different for what he teach he soo bad and he's late for everything he give. I don't recommend for anyone to take it at all
He sucked. it was one of the worst math classes i have ever taken. he was a nice guy but terrible at actually teaching. even kids in the class who were good at math had to re-teach themselves. Do not take this class!!
Professor Winchester is a difficult professor only if you don't seek help. Every exam is based off of the homework, so if you dont do it, you're screwed. Hes a slow grader, and half the time you can get a question right on a quiz but if its not how he wants it you don't get credit for it. Difficult but I was failing and he gave me a C anyway.
Being straightforward here. You are literally on your own in this course, he does not respond to emails and grades everything extremely late. Even right now he still has yet to grade my third exam even though the class is done. You are going to have to use a lot of resources outside of what is given.
Cool guy but uninterested in teaching and unpassionate about material. Doesn't make due dates for assignments until a week before. Runs through material fast with little practice or explanation. Only take if you already understand math.
You will literally have to teach yourself in this course, cause man does this guy not know how to teach. He would always be late to class and would lecture online most of the time. Doesn't explain anything in the lectures and goes super fast with 0 explanation. Also a slow grader; grades everything VERY harshly! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
made it so hard to learn. flies through problems. not easy at all. avoid
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR I LITERALLY THOUGHT HE WAS GONNA BE A GOOD ONE UNTIL HE STARTED NOT SHOWING HOW TO DO THE EXAMPLES IN CLASS FOR ONLY A FEW MINUTES AND AFTER THAT YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN HE DOESN'T EVEN TELL YOU WHEN THE TEST WILL BE OR ABSENT HE WOULD ALWAYS CANCEL CLASS LAST MINUTE OR GO ON ZOOM AND HE WOULD TALK ABOUT HIS BORING LIFE WTH??
No Bueno professor I don't recommend taking his course he didn't even help me with math and I should've withdrawal earlier, and he talks about his personal life which nobody cares.
Professor shows few videos on some problems but then left to figure out the rest. Exam is based on practice problems & have 2 hours for ~25 problems which isn't enough time. He responds to emails extremely late & grades everything last minute. For midterm & final you must send photo of worked problem or you get no credit.
Blows.
I understand that this is an online course, but you are 100% doing EVERYTHING on your own. He has some youtube videos to 'help', but they aren't helpful. SO many practice questions (that have an attempt limit) and you are graded heavily on very few actual assignments. I'm pretty good at math and I struggled with this class. Wouldn't recommend.
Honestly the worst professor ever I can't even tell you how I never ever want to take him again I understand it's asynchronous but the problems are so hard to understand but the videos he show I just don't understand with this guy.
Professor Winchester isn't bad at all but he is heavy on homework and assignments he barely teaches at all to the class I don't really understand what's he saying since he speaks at a low voice he's a cool guy but not good at teaching if you fail the first test I would say just drop him.
Professors has videos some I don't understand but some I do actually took me a while to figure on how to do the problems they should take at least 15-20 minutes to do overall his online class isn't bad but his teaching skills are terrible and you're actually 100 percent on your own but if you are decent at math you'll be fine with Winchester.
He's meh not the worst professor or not the best overall you will be teaching urself at all since he does not know how to teach he's a nice guy as a person but teaching not all great only reason why I give him a 3.0 since I'm doing well also he does respond to emails but lately though
I didn't like him at first but now I feel like he's a good professor so far to me has helped me with problems and a few examples as well sometimes you would have to teach yourself but so far he's a good professor to have and does respect me so much which I like and will often stay late to help with anything.
Difficult class but worth it professor is very caring and will help you pass.
This was an easy class to take.
Good professor Winchester was excellent his Monday math090 class is good even though it's online I would take him he's worth it.
Tough online class for 15 weeks but worth it Winchester is a good professor always replies to emails and would help out on any math problem that I'm stuck on take his online also math ai is helpful too as well doesn't show the correct answer but gives good examples.
You teach yourself EVERYTHING. Material wasn't too bad and I'm not the best with math. Failed two exams, but still passed so very possible for many to past this class. Would not recommend if you want someone who actually teaches you things though. He also never puts attendance for grades so I only came in for exams, it was great.
When you take winchester at this point you are teaching YOURSELF. but however he will help you with problems and will have zoom meets incase if you're still confuse I only focus more on test since they were a little heavy but problems and other assignments not really at all since there not worth that much points but he's a cool guy I'd rate him 4/5
Professor Winchester is good even though you do have to teach urself but he will manage to help at all times took his 7-week 106 course I gotta say it was tough but I pass with an A he does email quickly which is good but does have decent office hours and will help you with practice problems and make you pass easily.
Take this class at your own risk. Professor is disorganized, often cancels lectures or teaches online with little explanation. Unstuck study and the textbook are more helpful than the professor.
You teach yourself if you take winchester would recommend if anyone can teach theirselves for mat106 however he doesn't care about attendance which is good only show up a few times did good on all of his test except one but it's fine unless you study and email him about problems they take at least 10-15 minutes to do over decent but not the best.
Most of this class heavily relied on MyOpenMath. He doesn't grade work only grades your MyOpenMath final grade. So you could be 100% on the process but mess up the numbers in one place and lose all the points on the question entirely. The homework he did gave a lot of leniency and was free points.
I'm not a big fan with Prof. Winchester even though you'll have to teach everything by yourself he does have videos but there mainly a bit useful (shorta) mostly everything is on MyOpenMath which is fine he does required to show work and if it's not his way or the MOM way then he will take points off overall his class is okay not the best.
Mr Winchester's video lectures are sloppy and hurried. He often misses emails for days. I was finally able to meet with him, and during that time he was disorganized, unprepared and rude. He did not do a good job walking me through problems His teaching style, persona, and image of uncaring make it difficult for me to recommend this class.
He is definitely an interesting person! He talked about his life a lot, but overall, he wasn't very efficient at actually teaching. I only got a good grade in this class because I found outside resources to help me. He had few grades, but the problem sets are normally 50 questions, so DO NOT leave them to the last minute like I did!
Professor Winchester made calc 2 very hard as his videos are hurried and sloppy as well. It was hard to understand almost all his videos and he is a heavy grader as small mistakes I made he takes so much points off and he would never reply to emails at all I tried to email him multiple times but he would never responded I wouldn't recommend him.
Not a bad professor there's other options other than him talking about his personal life for a bit and tends to not teach his teaching style is okay just he gives out so much homework and quizzes as well overall his test and quizzes are very similar to his homework and class lectures so you do have a chance on doing well but also teaching urself.
Overall really nice and chill guy. He teaches very fast and it's hard to understand so just be prepared to have to teach some things to yourself. Everything is on my open math which also is kind of annoying. However, he's always willing to answer questions and go over things as many times as you need which is nice.
Gave me a failing grade for a midterm that never popped up on my open math, how was I suppose to know there was a midterm if there was never an email sent out. I emailed him about it and didn't get a response, but he was quick to fail me and tell the advisor about it. I definitely recommend to not take his class at all
If you take Gary Winchester's Mat106 course at Blue Bell, be warned that he will not be doing any teaching. Gary will sit at his desk for the entire class period and solve the problems for you, sighing unenthusiastically after each question, while you sit in your seat, watching with no opportunity for real hands-on guidance or assistance.
He kinda chill guy. He is not explaining the topic, he just solve each problem (like a homework ) u literally have to ask him for each step of how he solved the problem. U have to study by yourself outside of college cuz u wont understand him. Hopefully i had a friend for my high school and she helped me with assignments and YouTube helped me a lot
Upon explaining to this man that I had a situation I had to take care of overseas, in a location where I had no connectivity, I was met with the most sarcastic, insensitive, and unprofessional response. Do not choose him as your professor because any questions you ask him can be perceived as an annoyance and he will respond very rudely.
He is a terrible communicator. I barely emailed him, but when I did, I always had to send it twice to receive a response. For some questions, he will be very angry when asked and will reply rudely that he doesn't reply to certain questions, yet it's not stated in the syllabus or Canvas announcements, so he literally expects you to read his mind.
cannot communicate normally and has WAY too big of an ego. If you email him with normal questions in a nice tone, he'll be offended over God knows what and email you back arguing with you. Don't know why he's comfortable giving such an attitude. Trust that Etsy witch will be seeing me.
