She gives you a lot of work but allows you to redo your papers in order to get an "A".
This class sucks! I used to love Eng before taking this, now i hate it! I'm so sick of her monotonous lectures...she's ur typical flower child...i had to come to class hi to be on her level..don't take her..you'll fall asleep - I'm warnin ya!
The class is easy, but there is something due everyday. It's usually a few questions typed (about a page) and there's the occasional 5 page paper. Nothing is overly difficult but there's a lot of little things to do.
She was my first experience back to school in many years. She is a great teacher and is there to help you when ever you ask. I don't understand how anyone could not do good in her class if you are serious about your education.
SHE IS A GOOD PERSON FIRST OF ALL, AND SECOND OF ALL SHE KNOWS THE SUBJECT VERY WELL. SHE IS VERY UNDERSTANDING AND HELPFUL. TAKE HER IF YOU REALLY WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING.
Great teacher! I took her PACE class and received an A. Lots of essays and a couple research papers. Not too difficult if your up to the writing. She uses a website for the class to communicate with each other and ask queations.
Dr Fornataro is one of the best English professors at LAVC. She's nice and patient; if you follow her study guide, you will do well absolutely!!!
She is a clear teacher, however she is WAY too political in her lessons. She claims to be opened minded, but she is only open to one sided views. She makes it very clear how she stands policically and makes students feel uncomfortable. It also seems that she grades by how you write your point of view. For an A, I suggest you write about her views.
I would recommend this teacher to people who like to be challenged intellectually.
she scared the sh*t out of me the first day so i ended up dropping the class...the class seemed pretty difficult and it involved alot of group work and class presentaions...shes not too bad but take someone else if possible.
Although she does give a lot of homework, she is an excellent teacher...good lectures....and has a very neat and set plan.
I used to love English till I took this class. She has a feminist point of view on everything and loves to show off her muscles. I hated the book she used and we were forced to also reply to people on the internet. I would suggest someone more interesting.
The workload is a lot, but not too bad if you keep up. Don't fall behind or skip class! Some of the topics covered were hard to get into & write about. Overall she's a good teacher and gives back lots of feedback on your writing, which helps.
I took her for English 28 and 101 she is tough but I love her class I really learned. If your looking for an easy A or a kick back class dont take her, If you really want to learn she is the one to take,
Very disppointing. Overbearing attitude discourages. Narrow perspective. Makes things way harder than they need to be in the practical sense. Maybe just inexperienced. Subject matter very interesting though. Find someone else if possible.
She was ok. I admit the work load was a lot, but you will practice your writing, and she will help you understand it better. Keep up with the work and like the rest of the professors you should stop at her office once in a while and show some interest in the class.
Dr Fornataro is a literature aficionado. She incites wonderful discussions. I find it ironic that people would complain about her. When it comes down to it, Fornataro is a college professor expecting college students to rise to the occasion. I would recommend her to anyone with intellect. If you don't want to learn don't take her class.
I have to say that the work load is a bit much, I really tried hard and kept up with the class, but its almost impossible to get an A in her class. She gives alot of feedback. I got a B in her class, and I turned everything in. If you have another teacher that you can take do that, if not keep up with the work load and you will get a B! :(
Dr. Fornataro expects college level work from her students. For those who are serious about persuing their degree I would 100% recommend her.
I really like fornataro-i took her 4 Eng 28 & waited 6 months 2 take her 4 Eng 101! shes really smart & gives U a lot of feedback on your H/W! she does require U 2 print & post all of UR H/W on an online web forum called ETUDES. So UR going 2 need the internet & printer! 2x a wk u will read short essays & respond 2 them. Its really not that hard!
Fornataro is extremely political, be prepared she lectures boring subjects though they are educational she made fun of BUSH tons of times yet she was quite knowledgeable she is on top on your work, no one was left behind even though most of the students do not get the grade you want she expects college writing and reading
i am currently in her english 101 class and i also took her ng 28 class. All i could say is that shes good and she makes everything look easy, although her classes are a bit oring coz their really long. One thing i dont like though is that she gives too mch work to do for a week bu other than that i highly recommend her. i got an A in on eng 28!
I got an "A" in her Eng 28 course. She is nice, and clear but, makes you do a lot of writing! If you don't have "time" don't take her classes. If you do your best and attend her classes you will pass! The class wasn't hard. Good luck!
I took her Eng 101 course she makes your write a lot! But, if you work hard and put in the effort she will pass you! She gives a lot of work but, if you have time to write take her. Otherwise take it with someone else.
I loved her...she was really nice and understanding...She does give a lot but if she sees you trying she will help you out.
I took her hybrid class for eng28 and eng101 and i loved it. you show up to school once a week, do online exercises which are easy, and do your 3 to 4 essays per semester and you should be ok. interesting class, never boaring. she's the best.
i took this class as the hybrid pace class, so a lot of it was online. it was cool to have it that way, but at times it was a little unclear on what we were supposed to doa nd when. It was her first time teaching this class this way, so it's understandable. The writing is tough, especially since it is so accelerated
She is an ok teacher. She makes a lot of grammar and spelling mistakes in her comments though. The biggest concern is she is too moody.

She's a political hack who always tries to push a liberal agenda in the class. I am not a conservative or Republican but it is a bit much when she always pushes her political point of view.
Horrible teacher!!! If you like politics then this is the class for you! But if not then DO NOT TAKE IT! Her assignments are hard! So if you expect to take this class and not do anything you're wrong. Her lectures are boring and she drags out topics that aren't even important.

Amazing teacher! i would totally recommend her class! shes an awesome teacher and the class is so easy. I hate English, but she is so helpful. She puts time and effort and will stay after to help you out. I took the pace class, so it went by fast. I feel liked i learned a lot. Don't listen to the others. Its college things will be HARD.

WOW! Previous comments. I was dreading taking this class, English is not one of my interest. I think the peeps that wrote unpleasant comments must of not liked that she made us read!? And be open to others way of thinking. I read my readings did my work and got a cool grade. She's the reason i went further to 102. English is an art.

Alright. I tried to take her 1/2 online 1/2 lecture class because I hadn't taken an online class yet. I thought it'd be the safer route. WRONG. She started assigning group work. She is rather dry in class. Not worth attending. Explains TOO MUCH! We're not frikken illiterate or retarded.
She is very nice, but not helpful at all. All we wrote about was advertising. In the end, it felt as though I had just taken a marketing class. I got an A, but I worked extra hard for it. The most discouraging part, is that she doesn't read your work until the end of class. Get another teacher if you can.

I personally thought that she was a very fair teacher. She gave the grade that you deserved,a nd told you what was wrong with it. The assignments where easy, but in the end you do have to work for your grade, i got my grade because i slcked, if i would of putin my 100 percent i definetely would of gotten an A.
I took this class as a hybrid class for english 28 and 101. She is a great and helpful teacher. She answers all your questions. There is ALOT of reading including her instructions, she is very detailed in her instructions. Do not procrastinate cuz it will come and hurt you. You have to be very open minded and enjoy reading, I would take her again
Took the hybrid Honors sec which was not so different from regular class. Workload was huge! A LOT of reading but learned a great deal. Dealt with a lot of pol sci issues too. Obama book was used as well. Had to work w/groups for research questions & then 7-10pg paper, & inc final timed 2-3pg essay (2hrs). Want a challenge? this is the 1 to take!
My writing skills have improved significantly. She is by far the best english teacher on campus. She is always there to help you, and I promise you will become a better writer.
Don't take the online English 101 class. Poorly designed online app. And she also barely graded our assignments. The curriculum was over the top. Our class was neglected for another.

I'm taking an online class with her. I thought it would be easy but I was so wrong. It is a lot of work. I have five classes and this class was the hardest if you put all of my other classes together. I hate to admit it, but I did learn a lot. Instead of complaining, just keep working. You paid for the class, make the most of it.
I liked this professor at first. By the end of the semester I felt like she was unorganized and unfairly demanding. She falls behind on grading and makes excuses for why she doesn't follow through with her commitments. I would never take this teacher again or recommend her.
I took this class online - she crammed way too much work in. Assignments were due on holidays and weekends. Very little feedback. She took a very long time to grade assignments. She didn't give us our final paper topic until the last week of class. She did extend the due date, but that meant I was doing work 2 weeks after classes were over.

I am in the midst of taking her online class...EXTREMELY disorganized, bad grammar & misspellings, constantly complained how she was "too busy to answer questions," emotional, unnecessary long winded instructions, last minute political research project that stressed everyone out becuz we weren't prepared for it..horrible teacher overall.
I hated this online class from beginning to end. The class and assignments were disorganized, unclear, and way too demanding. She assigned assignments way too close together and I ended up having to work a lot over weekends and holidays. I would never recommend this class to anyone and I would never take her again.
This instructor is pretty difficult. She provides some good information, but the main problem is organization. I don't think this class would have been as hard if she was a lot more organized. even then, expect a lot of work. If you are looking for a challenge, then go for her, but if you work full-time and/or have kids, don't take her.
This teacher is awful. All she does is post pages and pages of useless information rather than just getting down to the point. She literally makes her students read through 15 pages of reading to arrive to 1 point she is trying to make. She rambles on and on and on and she expects this class to be your entire life and disregard other courses

Unclear instructions, doesn't want to answer questions, seems overwhelmed with classes and life. Book used once. Fair grading. I had an essay she graded and told me to fix, I didn't, sent it back, and it was marked up from a C to an A.
Gets you to work. Actually the class was a bit disorganized but I learned a lot and she is very helpful when engaged.

You need a Masters Degree to decipher her instructions. I withdrew from her online course because it was like the school was pulling a prank on me. She uses an extra website which you must pay for, in addition to Etudes and you are doing assignments all over the place. She emails every day with excuses why work isnt graded. A joke.
This Professor's online English 103 class is horrible. She writes a novel in order to explain one simple assignment. I don't know if she thinks she sounds more scholarly, but she doesn't. The class asks so many questions because we are confused and she takes forever to respond. She needs to stick to singing....

She doesn't teach anything, all she does is talk about herself and write the most redundant, tedious writing I've ever read in my entire life. She writes 3 pages of instructions for assignments that should require 3 sentences. Very disorganized and hurts the students ability in the class.

The previous comments are correct. This teacher has takes an average of 2-3 pages to explain ordinary assignments. She's probably a very nice person, but needs to find something new to do. Teaching isn't her thing.

Hands down the most disorganized instructor I have ever come across. Assignments were always confusing (even after asking for specific clarification). Not only would I not recommend her classes, I don't think she should be teaching this subject until she can get her priorities in order. Do not take this class. You will regret it.

By the end of the semester half the assignments weren't graded but I got an A somehow. Shes easy but take someone else if possible to keep your sanity

Had to take this class because i just wanted to get English 101 out of the way and every other class was taken. She is horrible. Very boring and unorganized. I used to love english but after taking this class, i am now doubting my ability to write and become an English teacher (SHE'S THAT BAD) Do not take her even if your units depended on it.
Late work is accepted, but grading for this course comes down to the final two assignments, which are "heavily" weighted. This course does parallel a "lite" political science class. Prepare to read an array of modules, (2-3 hours; weekly). None of the actual assignments are too; time consuming. Start on the final two projects asap.
I took her hybrid English 101 class because I had to get it out of the way for transfer, SHE IS TERRIBLE. If you value your sanity, do yourself a favor and stay away. Her lectures are all over the place,and her modules are unclear and easily misunderstood. STAY AWAY FROM HER CLASSES. She's a great person, terrible teacher.
Took this class a couple semesters ago. I got an A and to be honest Im in no way a writer I just showed up to class and did the assigments, followed her suggestions when she graded my stuff (when she ever got to it!) and passed. Yes she is a little absent and scattered but does guide you through the class.

The instructions for her assignments are very unclear.I took her hybrid class, and the one time that we met in a week was mostly spent by her aimlessly rambling. Take this class if you absolutely must, but you will have to be very patient.

She is a really really nice lady, and nice to speak to outside of class. She is reasonable when it comes to extending deadlines. However, she is not fit for teaching.
Not recommended. You go to class once a week to hear her ramble on. You can play a drinking game with how many times she says “You know” (I once counted 194). If you don’t mind reading 40+ pgs. of instructions, then knock yourself out. You have to write an essay on your literacy history and then everything else is about politics.
I took her English 101 hybrid, and I am being completely honest when I say she was the worst teacher I have ever had in all of my schooling. She is completely unorganized, and her class almost has nothing to do with the actual class description for Eng. 101. I got an A in her course, but I will say it required a lot more work than it should have.
SO OVERLY COMPLICATED IN EVERYTHING. There is so much work to do too for a 3-Unit class. I've never done so much work and received a "B". To me, this class just taught me how to deal with a difficult professor. That's it. So glad I didn't take her class in person. Extremely boring, uses weird fonts to make instructions difficult to read, repeats everything way too much. If you have a question, you might as well just ask her assistant, Patrick, because she takes forever to reply. Just do all the assignments as best as you can be ready for a lot of reading/summarizing
SHE IS THE WORST!! I took her hybrid class. Her online directions were anything BUT directional. She was all over the place and just to understand what you really had to do, you had to read a book of instructions. The homework took 30 minutes to find out what you were doing and another 5 hours to actually do and class discussions were of NO help.
I wouldnt take her for an online class. instructions are SUPER long and repetative. She took forever to grade papers. Didnt get enough feedback fast enought to improve. Hadnt received my grade for my first essay and i was about to submit my second. if you do the work and follow instructions you should be fine. & if you LOVE reading
The workload in her online course is insane. Her instructions are needlessly long & complex, & she takes FOREVER to grade your essays. Her TA grades all the hw but he grades completely different from her, so you never know exactly what the standard is. She expects you to write like a genius and is far too demanding. Don't take her if you want an A!
She is actually a good Professor. In her classes though, especially the hybrid class that I took. She assigns a massive amount of work to do. If you listen and do what she says and do all the work that is required you will pass with at least a B in her class. Just make sure you don't take many other classes with hers because of all the work you do.
Worst class in my 2 yrs at LAVC. Her instructions are incredibly long & never even clarify the assignments. The workload is way more than a 3-unit class should have. I took her hybrid class. Her in-class lectures are long and useless, not to mention she never gets to the point. Her online system is unorganized and she gives an unrealistic amount of work! She is a nice woman, however if you're going to take this class you'll have to be very patient and be prepared for tons&tons of work with unclear instructions.
Never had a worse prof. Avoid her at all costs, trust me! She has ridiculously high expectations and assigns a boatload of work. I felt like I was taking a 20 unit class! Just trying to figure out her instructions took forever and was super stressful. I wish I had dropped the class. There is no way anyone can get an A in her 103 course.
Honestly, it wasn't the amount of work assigned that made this class unbearable. It was the fact that she was always 4 to 5 weeks behind on grading that hurt. It was impossible to figure out where you stood in the class. Her directions were awful as they were often in different size fonts and colors. Really poor execution of an online class.
Honestly, this professor is VERY knowledgeable in what she teaches. BUT, she assigns WAY TOO MUCH! English 103 should not really be that difficult but omg, there was SO much to do! I was barely keeping up. And as someone else mentioned, her expectations are way too high. Even giving a simple instruction, she writes an essay on how to do it!
English has been a class I've felt confident in, until taking this one. I usually fly through English classes with ease, but when it came to the instructions, work, and expectations I couldn't keep up. The instructions were so long and complicated it made it much harder than it needed to be to understand what she wanted. Feedback was the same way.
YES, instructions are very long, complex and confusing, semester is over and 3 things still haven't been marked, she has 4 English classes at once and is a little all over the place BUT she is a VERY nice Prof who will work with you and help you and extends deadlines. English is her passion and she just wants you to become the best writer possible.

She knows her subject very well. Too well she can't put her students shoes on hers. Gives long explanation/instructions it'll take forever for you to find what you're really need. Sometimes you might even miss it. Other than that she's nice and understanding. Very approachable so you can tell her whatever it is that makes the subject hard for you.

THE MODULES AREN'T WELL WRITTEN AND IT'S HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE IS ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR. SHE TAKES FOREVER TO GRADE PAPERS. SHE DOES GIVE FEEDBACK BUT BY THE TIME YOU RECEIVE IT, IT'S TOO LATE
In her online class the directions were so lengthy it was hard to figure out what she wanted. Our first high-point paper was two pages and it took two months to get feedback on it. There's textbook and online reading assignments for the technical aspects of writing, but the textbook just reiterates what's online. Its required, but kind of useless.
This teacher was the best and the worst!!! She is a really caring person and really wants you to learn. She also gives very insightful feedback on a student's writing. Could be a great teacher- But instructions:away too complicated. Please someone help her organize! Also why in an English class the time was spent reading only politics (no Eng lit)
The teacher has a lot of knowledge and works very hard. Her grading and tips were informative. She is a very nice lady who really cares about her students and will do everything to help you if you just put in the work (of which there is a lot). The class could be a real pleasure if the professor could learn to condense her instructions to 1/10.
The teacher does give very constructive feedback (but a bit slow to do so). She does care about her students and works very hard as a professor. Class instructions need to be organized better.
Straight up terrible. She would cancel class 15 minutes before it started, and on the days she would be there, it would be anywhere between 30 minutes late. Her lectures are pointless. All the classwork is online, and there is a lot of writing in online discussions and papers. Shes says "you know" an annoying amount. Nice lady but not a good prof.
This teacher Is a teacher that I will never take again. She doesn't acknowledge your work and didn't acknowledge mine. Gave me 0 out of 350 for final and didn't give me a chance to revise or make up my grade. Choose a different teacher like Yegoryan, whose amazing teacher.
I am currently taking this course with Professor Fornatoro. She gives out homeworks every week, she also accepts and very considerate with late work assignments. Gives informative feedback. Would definitely take this class again!
Hardest class to navigate in canvas as well as the assignments. She is the complete worst teacher at valley college. Take her if you want to fail!!!! .... did and completed all the assignments correctly and still failed because of one bad Citation on the final. Dont recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This class was a lot of work. But I did learn a lot about MLA essays, and works cited. She expresses her political viewpoints a lot. Starts off learning about writing process then goes into income inequality, polarization, american dream, propaganda, etc. Boring stuff, interesting when you finally make yourself do it. Learned a lot, but hard.
Her canvas is so messy. She overcomplicates everything. Save your nerves and brain cells and take this class w/ someone else. I did all the work, but her directions were just to complicated to understand. This class was extremely annoying. Please avoid at all costs :)
Horrible professor. Her instructions/assignments are so difficult to navigate through canvas. I did my absolute best & did all the work but I didn't like how this class was heavily politics based. Boring * ridiculously difficult. I'm currently retaking English 101 w/ a different professor & have an A. This just shows that she was the problem!
Seems more like a politics class than an English class. Talks about political views for 3/4 of the class and then actually gets into the English part. She is a nice person, but cancels classes a lot and is very unorganized. Forgets to update assignments and directions are really complicated. Seems to really care, but can't keep it together.
Ms. Fornataro is one of the worst teacher experiences I've had. -Missed a third of the class days and didn't report them properly -When she showed up she was late every time -Put most of her focus on her other classes -Didn't grade anything until the last weeks of class, everything done by her TA -Didn't teach us anything during the class period
Professor Fornataro is a good teacher. She is informative and gives great feedback. This was my first English course for college and I did it online. Her canvas is set up so its color coded and important information stands out. Use of citations and detailed work is appreciated any help you need she will respond.
Grading was done by a TA for the 1st half of term, then prof graded the 2nd half which was like starting the class over again. "English 101" is a misnomer--it's a Poli-Sci course with super tough paper grading. Had to show up in person to get an A for an internet class. Not recommended unless you want to feel like you are actually dying.
Professor Fornataro's class is a mixed bag - the workload is heavy, but engaging with the material and using study tools like unstuck study can really pay off. The class leans political, but there's still a lot to learn.
Very caring professor. Gives great feedback and wants you to learn. The instructions and her over all canvas modules are all over the place. The instructions for the assignments are extremely long and sometimes it's a little confusing. A bit unorganized. Class is all about politics mainly, rarely about English. Very hard pass.
Professor Fornataro is a very nice lady, who really cares about you and your success. Most of her assignments are repetitive, and her canvas is hard to manage oftentimes because of the various fonts, colors and sizes she uses in text. The directs to assignments are also tedious to view. Most grading is done by her TA who provides decent feedback.
