Very boring prof who required attendance. if you get a good TA you'll do great because they're the ones who do all the grading. Just make sure you can analyze texts well and you'll do good

I think people are able to take this class. It is not extremely hard at all. There are 2 regular in class essays and then a midterm and a final. You must go to class and discussion helps if you have a good TA. All tests must be from your own knowledge not on what is learned in class so that is the only difficult part. Definitely doable though.

Teacher uses the class as her therapy session. Easy class to do well in but the lectures are very off topic. Readings are useful and usually entertaining but the teacher rarely talks about them in class. I was under the impression some of the stories she told us were fabricated. 2 free absences before she starts taking points off your grade.

she went off on tangents for at least half the class about her personal life.m and she's very candid. wants the class to lead the discussions, and the tests are one essay question (you have a choice) but they're more opinion-based than analytical. TA is the grader and ours rarely came to class nor did she do the readings. interesting class but eh

Class is graded on only 3 papers so it is important to use her feedback. Most of the lecture is off topic but fortunately, most of what she has to say is interesting although the class begins to drag on in the second half of the semester. She is very understanding of the stresses of being a college student.

Literature and Medicine was a great class. The readings and lectures were all interesting. Readings weren't spaced appropriately, too much reading required and went over some readings much more than others that we barely discussed. This is partially due to the tangents of the professor, but the tangents are interesting anyways.I learned quite a bit

I find it difficult to rate this professor because it comes down to personal taste. If you enjoy hearing moreno philosophical story telling, youll love her. Pretty easy sigh the grading. Class is structured in a very loose way. Readings are interesting but there are way too many to manage.

I was enrolled in this course for three days and she was extremely confusing to understand, claimed she "didn't plan lectures", yelled at a student who asked if we could have subtitles on a video and told us we weren't allowed to use the bathroom during class. Maybe she gets better but I dropped it and I'll take it again with a better professor

I should've dropped this class when I had the opportunity. She is confusing, so far I haven't learned anything about Shakespeare from her, all I know is because I already read all the plays long ago. If you can skip her, please do it will save you time.

The complaint here is that she verges off topic too often and students are left confused; but the thing is, that's what the beauty of the course is. Shakespeare's timeless plays are open to an infinite variety and number of interpretations; she offers hers, with ample related personal anecdotes, and encourages you to develop your own. She is great.

Enjoyable if you're interested in Shakespeare, if not you'll probably be confused and frustrated. Tests are in-class essays on odd prompts, but not that difficult. She's pretty old-fashioned, so no cell-phones or laptops in class at all (she enforces this heavily). Very passionate about what she does, just not very approachable; she's intimidating.

Your grades are calculated through your TA. Although lecture is mandatory, the notes you take during lecture aren't relevant to the test or your grade at all to be honest. To succeed in this class, attend all lectures (purely to avoid the attendance punishment), go to discussion (once a week) and make a good impression on your TA.

Prof Whittier gives long lectures that you really don't need to listen to, in part because they rarely pertain to the topic at hand. I started off the sem taking notes, but by the end I realized how useless that is. Grading is solely based on your TA, so just hope you luck out w a good one. Super high standards too 95+ for an A, 90-95 for an A-.

Gayle is such a sweetheart, but I seriously did not listen to a single lecture. She stresses that our essays should contain our own analysis and not hers, and your grade reflects that. The grading in this class is ridiculous, but that is up to your TA's. My essays that were trash did better than one's I worked hard on, so it seems random.

She does not grade any of your work, it's all about the TA, so make sure to look them up. Lectures are basically her time to make a podcast, but I think it's difficult for her bc she is online. She's super interesting and has amazing stories, but lectures have nothing to do with your assignments so if you listen or not it's the same. Shes sweet tho

SHAKESPEARE
Grade: Rather not say
Oct 27, 2023

I took Prof Whittier's Shakespeare class in 1976 - hour-long personal rambles about her young daughter with little analysis of Shakespeare. She ignored the syllabus and school grading rules, which required at least one grade before the drop date. She was indeed memorable - but not in any positive way.
