Her class is really hard! Its boreing and her tests are crazy ! so if u get her my advice is to drop the class
She's a really nice lady. I thought her test would be really fair. After the class average was around a 60 on the first test, I thought that she would curve a little bit (seeing as though this is an intro/gen ed. class) but she didn't. It was a little upsetting.

She is really nice, but the class is so long and boring. Most of the time I dont go or just leave because she tends to put up all the power point slides online. Tests aren't to bad, just study your notes... that you get off line while skipping class.
She knows her stuff but the class is looong and boring. Her tests are difficult and the class averages have all been failing ones..she isn't a bad teacher jsut study for her tests! she doesn't put all of her slides on blackboard so you may miss something if you don't go to class.
Bring a pillow this class will put you to sleep, which is a bad thing since not paying attention will make you fail even worse than if you do pay attention....
OMG IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT TAKING THIS CLASS OR ARE IN THIS CLASS GET OUT NOW...YES SHE PUTS HER NOTES ON BLACKBORAD BUT THEY'RE A WASTE OF TIME HAVE A NICE TIME TRYING TO PASS HER CLASS
No attendance taken, and you can come in/leave whenever. I've fallen asleep multiple times, and notebook covered in doodles. Tests are multiple choice, and I've gotten a 82 and 84 so far just by circling words that looked familiar to me. Most, if not all notes missed in class are in the book. If you can't pass it, drop out of school.
dont take psy 100 with this lady! shes boring and will put u 2 sleep. She doesnt take attendence so dont bother goin 2 class bc she puts all notes on bb & teaches right from the text,ur better off teaching urself. The class average so far has been failing and she wont curve tests. Her Study guides tell u whats not on the test rather then what is:-(
She is the worse teacher ever! Her class is boreing as anything and her tests are impossible! If you have this lady do switch out immediately... or you might fail just like I am!!!She makes my life miserable... considering I have all A's and B's in my other classes
ridiculous. she needs to curve her tests. that is all. i don't understand why she doesn't see that everyone in the class is failing. i study like crazy and can't break a 75. which is ridiculous for a gen ed class. it's killing my gpa. don't take her.
This Class is really really easy. It's too easy for lots of people. If you read the book, and go to class, and take notes, you'll pass. She doesn't really stray from the book much, which is boring, but at least you know whats on the test.
The class is boring and there's not much point in going, but the tests are really easy. I missed all but 2 classes for our 3rd exam, did not read the book, and still got a 90%
I think that she is a good professor, and yes the class is easy, but who doesnt like a neasy class once in a while. I have cognitive psych with her and she is very knowledgeable. most of the comments are about psych 101 and that is a class with tons of info so that is why it might be hard, but it is not impossible if you go to class and take notes
The professor was very clear and gave great notes. The lectures were kinda boring and too long. The class was pretty easy... only problem was that she crams TOO MUCH information into each exam....like 35 pages of notes for each exam...and I write small! Overall she's really nice and knows her stuff. Study every day after class...it helps!
This teacher reads straight off her powerpoint notes all class, then postes them on blackboard. Problem is, its 200 pages of notes per exam. This class is impossible to recieve a sub-par grade in, because of how much information she tests on. If you want to pass you need to keep up with reading every class period, which is every single day!
im a senior with a cum. gpa of 3.6 and this class was the worse class in 4 years at 3 schools. she reads straight off her pwrpt. but these notes are irrlevant to the test. study the book. her study hints are lies. im getting a b but the class avg. is a low c, and it isnt the classes fault. i study for 2-3 hrs. a test out of the book and i do fine.
One of the worst professors @ wcu!! I think her classes are too long and get of subject a lot. DO NOT TAKE HER
This was the worst class I have ever taken at WCU. She is very unhelpful and after doing terribly on the first two tests, I went to see her. I explained to her that I was studying and still doing well and she told me that it was my fault. what a help. terrible teacher. dont take her.
she is THE WORST TEACHER EVER... SHES NEW THIS YEAR AND DOESNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TEACHING COLLEGE... ITS NOT NORMAL FOR THE CLASS AVERAGE TO BE A 60. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH HER, HER EXAMS ARE LIKE 15 QUESTIONS COVERING 5 CHAPTERS... ITS IMPOSSIBLE. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
Can you say TERRIBLE. Do not take her, the tests are ridiculous and its impossible to get an A on any test. Drop the class now.
All i have to say is the only days you should go to this class are test days. DONT waste your time with this woman- a terrible teacher who reads STRICTLY from her powerpoints. All you have to do to get a decent grade is outline the chapters FROM THE BOOKshe tests right from the book. Also she gives a 6 pt. curve to your final grade, so I got an A.
Shivde is the worst possible intro psych teacher there ever will be. you don`t need to be learning all of the crap she puts on the tests. i felt like i was studying to become a doctor, not a HISTORY EDUCATION MAJOR, which i am. do not take this class if you don`t have to.
These comments are really unfair... PSY100 is a hard class with any professor! There's a lot of stuff to go over. Prof Shivde is more than willing to help, you just need to go to her. She's very enthusiastic about cognitive psych, and her slides are really helpful. PSY100 is NOT supposed to be an easy A class!!!!
The class was very very difficult and I studied for hours b4 each test. Barely got a C-. However, Dr. Shivde is eager to help you in anyway possible. Overall, would not recommend.
What a joke! she doesnt use that expensive book, she talks a mile a minute, AND she is sooo unclear its unbeleivable! Her tests are next to impossible, she puts way too much into them, and she floods you with pointless information. Do the term paper ASAP and have her look at it, dont wait.. cuz youll get a D!
You'll understand the experiments in book better if u read it on ur own & don't listen to her talk about it.She makes it confusing.Use the study guides & go to her test reviews they HELP ALOT!Still not sure if her lectures helped or not.She is okay.I've had much better. She's a very nice woman tho. & very enthusiastic about topic.Wouldnt recom.her.
I expected this class to be an easy A, but it isn't. However, I think Prof. Shivde was very nice and helpful, for as much as you can be in a lecture class. You can't expect to show up to class and ace the tests. You have to read the book on your own and actually study for the tests. She's very willing and eager to help if you need it. Recommended!
Prof. Shivde is hard but fair. Some of the earlier comments are totally unfair. If you do the reading and pay attention in class, you can do fine.
You should definitely print out the slides from Blackboard and have them in class. They are very helpful. She will not put anything on the test that she didn't go over in the lecture. She's a nice lady and she gives good examples about the topics. Overall I would recommend her.
Prof. Shivde is very nice and explains everything clearly. Her class is pretty tough though...most of her tests seem to be based off the notes rather than the book...I didn't read past the 1st chapter and got a B. STUDY and you'll be fine ;)
Worst Teacher Ever!
Tests are easy as long as you study. No final, just another chapter test. She can be a little hard to understand but overall pretty easy. Attendence not mandatory but if you don't show up make sure you get the slides, that's the only way you'll pass.
She uses a powerpoint every day and posts the notes online so going to class is optional. Her tests aren't hard as long as you read the notes, and there are only 4 of them. No final, no mid-term, easy class.
Pretty good teacher. Usually answers your e-mails within the day you send them. Very good at explaining the material. You don't really have to attend the class, but sometimes she will mention material that is on the test that isn't in the textbook, so it's helpful to go and at least bring something else to do, just in case she mentions something.
she's great the class is fairly easy but there is a fair amount memorization not too excessive though. class isnt mandatory but it definitely helps your understanding of the info if you go
She really wasn't much of a help to me when I went in and told her I was having trouble with her tests. Her class was way to big for her indivisual attention. Read all chapters and know then to pass her tests.
Her test are not that bad, just make sure you memorize the terms. She teaches from the powerpoint slides everyday, so make sure you get them from Bb. And class is not mandatory, but it does help to attend class
Class not mandatorym, get notes. Only 4 Exams but very tricky. I went to class, and read all chapters but takes more studying than that! Make sure you study terms because exams can be tricky!
go to class, textbook is not necessary as long as you follow and understand the powerpoint slides. tests are easy and she does a good job explaining
class is not mandatory but GO! a lot of the test info is not in the notes she has you print out before class, it's in the lecture material she gives. she's nice and really tries to get students to come go over their tests with her.
Not as hard as she "puts on to be." I was in her "special, psychology-major only section," although im not a psych major, and it was a piece of cake. I missed like every other class and ended up getting a 98% for the class. Just make sure you know whats on the review sheet. She claims she can put other info on the test, but she never does.
very helpful. i wanted to change my major to psych and she was very good in helping me with my questions. i also enjoy her class very much. just pay attention and it's not hard.
she does not take attendence, but GO TO CLASS. trust me, if you show up and then study the reviews sheets , then you will do well on the exam. dont buy the text book!! all the info is right in the notes/slides she gives out.
This class was pretty easy & manageable. Many complain about it, but it's not hard at all if you just read over the powerpoints the night before the test. The tests are pretty easy as well. I barely went to class and just studied her powerpoints/study guides before the tests and got an A. Take Prof. Shivde because shes simple & easy.
The lectures are boring and she's kind of annoying, but its an easy class.
i had to study alot for this class and tests are kind of difficult and confusing. she words exam questions so it seems like there could be more then 1 correct answer. the average test grade in my class was between a 75-78 for every exam. and she wasnt very helpful outside of class.
Kinda hard to rate her. It was a big class so there wasn't much interaction between the students and teacher. Tests were kinda tricky with some questions. I'd suggest reading all the chapters and notes to be prepared.
This was a huge class so I can't tell you much about her. The tests were easy as long as you studied the PowerPoints and went to class every once in a while. She knows what she's talking about, and can be fun. And most importantly, she doesn't care what you do. It's up to you.
Geeta is a great professor! She is very smart and informative. Her class is very easy, but you still learn a ton. Don't both buying the textbook...I didn't use it once. She gives you all the notes you need. She is also available for her students in her office and she is quick to return emails. A+ professor!
Lectures are rather boring, but she says many good examples that help on the test. Since attendance is not mandatory she gives random extra credit in class for coming. Pulled me from a B to and A on more than 1 occasion.
Very nice, can tell she loves the subject. Coming to class isnt necessary, but you;ll have a better grasp on the topic. Tests are hard unless you study
Her class made psychology interesting, it is easy as long as you show up to every class and take notes. If you do like me, printing out the power point slides before the class and taking notes on them, you will not even have to open the psy book.
This was a very pointless class. She was unclear with the information she wanted and was absolutely no help. She didn't answer any e-mail questions either.
I can't believe she is still teaching!!!!.she was unclear and test was hard.don't take her!!!! she made the class hard.
Very strange lady Provides alot of info but doesn't tie any of it together so it would make sense. her tests are out of 50 points so make sure you study hard cause 1 or 2 bad essays or graphs will destroy your grade (trust me I know). I would recommend taking Cog with someone else if they ever assign another prof to it she is currently the only one
Powerpoint on D2L, 3 tests, one project/paper. Not an easy A but not impossible. If you go to class, print out the slides and pay attention you will get a good grade. No need for the textbook
Dr. Shivde is really sweet. The powerpoints are on D2L, but she adds and skips info so in order to know what will be on the tests its good to go to class. She gives nice study guides..overall good gen ed
Do not bother going to class. Study her powerpoint slides and thoroughly study the chapters assigned and you'll be fine. I went to the first 3 classes and still ended up with a B+
The professor and the subject matter in this course are extremely boring. Her tests are hard she doesn't entirely prepare you well enough to take them either. The textbook is useless, I recommend taking another class or at least bring a pillow for this boring one.
All of the readings were online which was really helpful. She will always answer any questions for the presentation and the research paper, she's great! Also some of the class periods were used as office hours so if her regular office hours didn't work for you, you could go in during class time.
Her lectures were absolutely BRUTAL. She talks the entire time! Take my advice, don't even show up unless there's an in class assignment. Otherwise all the notes and powerpoints get put online. And you don't even need to buy the book. The notes are enough to get a good grade.
She's a really good person. She can't see you if you raise your hand, so don't bother asking questions in class just send her an email. For our class she posted video lectures online a lot but she would always post them at like 10PM the day before class which was frustrating. Overall she was a good teacher and I loved the course.
This class had 2 meetings in person and was partially online. She posts the slideshows online. She gives in-class assignments unpredictably, and you can only miss two of them. The class is boring, but not very difficult. Make sure you do the online homework.
Shivde was dry for Cognitive but I loved her Neuropsych Seminar. All the research articles are online and you have to submit reflections on a number of them. She provides a lot of feedback on the paper and is really big on in class discussions. I learned a lot about deciphering research studies in her class, great environment
I took this class as a hybrid, so we had online Connect assignments due every week and one in class meeting per week. The online assignments were super easy. I honestly never paid attention to her in class, I didn't watch the online lectures or review the slides she posted. She gave a study guide before the test and that's what I used. Easy Gen Ed.
One homework assignment a week, the textbook is online only but I only needed it to do the homework assignments. Tests can be passed just by studying the notes from video lectures and lectures in class. She's passionate about her work and her final is not cumulative. Attendance to class is required but it's not dreadful to be there.
The class itself is super easy. Most of it is reading and doing assignments online. Dr. Shivde is so boring though. The only reason I go to the lectures is because of the in class assignment. She talks like she discovered Psychology or something. Without listening to a word she said during all the lectures I easily passed by the online notes.
Was not a bad gen ed but unless you're actually interested in psychology I wouldn't take again. She gave in class assignments worth credit almost every lecture so I wouldn't recommend skipping. Gives a study guide before exams but exams are still kind of challenging. Dry lecture that corresponds with online work due before class.
She's a fantastic teacher. Very clear and makes the class interesting. The online homework corresponds to lecture and the online lecture videos she posts. She's very nice and has a soothing voice. If you show up and pay attention, you'll do just fine. She also gives a helpful study guide before every exam!
very long and boring lectures. tests are difficult. she isnt clear about things sometimes. she's kind of irritating. got an A, but dont recommend
Very nice woman that always has a smile on her face. Every class there is a group assignment that is very easy and only takes 5 minutes. 3 tests including the final, which are non cumulative. Its a hybrid, so she does post online lectures, but the class is fairly easy.
She's a good teacher, just do what you're required to do and you'll learn from her.
As long as you do the online assignments and go to class and do the in class assignments the course is pretty much a breeze. Exams are tough but if you study the material given you'll pass them easily. Such a nice lady.
It's a huge lecture but If you do online assignments you'll do good. She offers study groups and lectures aren't essential. Doesn't take attendance but there are small in-class assignments. Generally, good teacher.
My section of PSY100 with Professor Shivde was a Psychology majors only section. The lecture had maybe 75 students. As long as you do the online assignments, you will be prepared for class. Attendance is taken by in-class assignments that she hands out (to be done in groups). She always is smiling!
Her cognitive psychology class is super easy even though it's a 400 level class, just don't skip. I sit in class on my phone all the time and have gotten A's on all of her exams and she gives extra credit for every exam! Her lectures are boring but if you go to class you don't need to study. She gives out study guide questions, DO THEM!!
Dr. Shivde is an amazing woman and professor. She really cares about her students and will set you up for success as long as you pay attention and do the work. The class is not the most interesting, but pay attention to her lectures and you will get an A.
She definitely knows what she's talking about. It can be a little boring and she doesn't take a day to review before an exam. She will you tell which things you need to know in the textbook. Most of the time it's not needed. Study the slides and complete her review sheets and you should be fine.
I had three exams and a final project. That's it. Very lecture heavy but I skipped a lot and still did well. She's obviously a smart person and she's very nice, but the powerpoint lectures are so boring. It wasn't bad.
PSY100 is a hybrid course. You are expected to do a lot outside class. Every week she posts video lectures & a connect assignment that must be done before class. You can keep doing it until you get 100, so 18% of your grade is easy. Her study guides before exams are very helpful, but still be prepared to study. Her final isnt cumulative either.
This class is a hybrid class so you are expected to watch her video lectures, which range in length, and complete connect assignments. Towards the end of her lectures she makes you get into groups and that is how she takes attendance. She also gives out study guides for exams which are extremely helpful as long as you elaborate the information!
Shivde is a great professor, super sweet and she definitely knows what she is talking about. The course itself relies on a lot of lectures-- video and in person. She does 5-point group work during the in class lectures to essentially take attendance so I wouldn't recommend skipping too much. Tests are pretty easy if you study for them.
Dr. Shivde is such a sweet woman! This class was hybrid so if you don't do all of the online work outside of class, you will quickly fall behind. She is really nice during office hours as well! Take her for Psych 100!
Very good teacher. Tests are 75% of grade but arent bad if you know the things on the study guide that she gives you at least a week before the test. Homework is 18% and is easy and attendance is 7%. Not hard to earn an A if you show up and know the study guide
Her lectures are long and dry (they often put me to sleep), but interesting. Almost all information covered is important. The tests were long and difficult, and missing one or two classes' worth of material may make or break your test grade.
I had Shivde for intro to psych and I got an A. Now I'm taking cognitive psych with her. I think she does a great job of explaining during lectures and is pretty engaging. I never purchased the (mandatory) textbook because she will tell you if there are sections you need to read and provide you with review questions before the exam.
Attendence is taking by group work each class, the textbook is online. She knows how to teach in a way that people can understand.
She is an okay professor. Just study the review questions and you will do well on the exams. She thinks it is perfectly fine to have an exam worth 33% of our grade on Tuesday and then a 10 page research paper due two days later on Thursday, despite it being the end of the semester and cognitive psychology not being the only class people are taking.
I had Dr. Shivde for PSY100 and loved her. Took her again for cognitive and thought she did a great job teaching the material and is very knowledgeable on the subject since that is her field of study. Last semester I took her senior sem and really enjoyed it! Lots of article reading and discussion but they're not too hard. Would take her a 4th time
She was a very understanding professor. Very involved in class work and always around for office hours. Big exams but said everything that was on it. Cared a lot.
She is a good professor. Simple, easy, and straightforward. Would recommend
She said the textbook was mandatory but I never used it and still got pretty good grades. Tests aren't difficult, she's very accessible when you need help with something. Cognitive psych as a class isn't that interesting though....
Super sweet!! So much lecturing though. Easy to pass if you pay attention and study. The textbook doesn't do much though.
Professor Shivde used her lecture slides as an outliner but be sure to write down things she says in lecture. If you attend each class and take good notes her tests are fair and consise. She is alway willing to help and you can ask as many quetsions as you need. She will offer extra credit and the end of the semester project will help your grade!
I took PSY 100 and it was 1/2 in class 1/2 online. Both her online and in class lectures were very clear and helpful. Each week you have an online assignment due, 3 exams total with no cumulative final. She sets the class up with very clear expectations and ways to get an A. Super easy and good class overall, I enjoyed it!
If you are a psych major, you already know Prof Shivde is the best! For a 400 level class youll have to work for it, and if you skip lecture youll have a lot to figure out on your own! Graded on 3 tests and final paper... Gives a review guide for every test which is super helpful! Great teacher and explains things very clearly.
Professor Shivde is very down-to-earth and understanding. She is a lenient, non-harsh grader. No quizzes or tests for this class: Just research articles/studies, summary and reflection papers on said studies and a research proposal and presentation. Although I wish we spent less time discussing research articles, the course was planned perfectly.
She is a very caring professor. Nothing against her, but this class is very useless to attend. Do the notes and little assignments, and you're good to go for the 3 exams. It is a pain waking up early for her 9:30 class because all she does is read the slides and that's it, so waste of time. Better off learning on your own for an easy A.
TAKE NOTES!!! TAKE NOTES!!! TAKE NOTES!!! So much information and if you do not stay on top of it, it gets to be a lot to manage. Material is interesting but overwhelming
Dr. Shivde's tests are based on lectures. She stated we did not need the textbook, but two to three questions on her exams, which are rather difficult, were only in the text and not taught during class. She offers 1 point of extra credit weekly, which is nice.
Go to class. Take notes. Don't buy the textbook. Exams are online. One hefty paper at the end, start it a little over a week in advance and you will be fine. She is super sweet and wants us to understand and apply the information. It is a super interesting class and would suggest taking it. Gave me a lot of new perspectives.
take this class. it's so easy. one/maybe two homework assignments every week due when your class starts. you read this informational textbook excerpt (that she provides, and you don't really need to read it, it's self-explanatory) then take questions about it. takes around half an hour. tedious over anything. no final! she's caring and friendly :)
She was an okay professor. I had class only one day a week. The work was SUPER easy but it was very pointless going to classes. She would give video lectures that you would need to take notes on to complete the Connect assignments before the class. And then in class, she would go over the same exact notes. It was a waste of my time.
Take this class over PSC 100, EGP majors! It goes towards the same Gen. Ed and it so much easier and so much more helpful if you want to be a teacher. Class is only once a week and all the assignments and exams are online. Work can be tedious at times, but it's very easy. She's super nice and her lectures are easy to follow.
Dr. Shivde is an amazing professor and she makes the class interesting. There are no exams, just weekly one page summary/reflection on the research article assigned. There is also a research proposal at the end of the semester and it includes presenting the material and turning in a research paper for it. All in all, I highly suggest taking her!
Lectures are very long and boring. She doesn't post slides so you will have to attend every class if you want to do well on the exams. Test are very long and detailed so make sure you take detailed notes. Three exams and one final paper.
Dr. Shivde is such a good professor and is super passionate when teaching, I enjoyed having her for Psychology she made it super interesting. Her assignments are easy and so are her exams which can be done outside of class. Her lectures/notes are super heavy, but she posts recordings. Overall, her class is impossible to fail, just do your work :)
Tough class, but worth it if you put in the work. Take detailed notes, use the review guides, and don't skip lectures. Exams are challenging, but manageable with unstuck ai and other study resources. The professor is helpful if you engage with the material.
Her class was the easiest one I had. She would give a nice 30-40 minute lecture while providing the notes, and then you would have a connect assignment due before class. Only grades were the connect assignments which were only worth 2 points each, and 3 exams(no final). Was very open to answering questions and was very helpful.
I took it as a hybrid class and it was really easy! All tests were online and open note. Lectures were once a week and were intriguing. Would definitely recommend for anyone even remotely interested in Psychology.
PSY 100 was a lecture heavy class but as long as you actually attend and take notes it's relatively easy to do well. She goes through a good amount of material each class and has Connect assignments due as well. She answers emails quickly and does her best to help if you're having trouble understanding something.
The lectures were copied and pasted from her slides. Everything was online, so no point in showing up. Easy tests and homework was easy but tedious
The class and homework is easy but heavy. I passed with a C because the exams were timed poorly and the questions need more time to be looked at. very lecture heavy.
She's kind and seems to really love teaching. Class is very lecture-heavy; lectures are just put onto D2L, so no point in showing up to class because attendance isn't taken. Also, she gave me an extension for my assignment that was days late because I had a family issue, she offered counselor resources, a really sweet woman with good intentions.
